summary: the one where you bring pb&j sandwiches for lottie everyday since you were 9.

warnings: so much fluffiness i might trow up, short silly fic, lottie and reader are childhood friends and secretly in love, no crash, lottie has a bad relationship with her parents, cute little unexpected ending i guess?, english mistakes, not proofread

you and lottie were friends since you were nine years old.

you remember being inside the car with your parents when you moved to new jersey. the roads were bumpy before you could make it to the city of wiskayok. still, you insisted on carrying a book with you during the entire trip, knowing that you would feel nauseous in no time. your parents warned you but, as the quiet and moody kid that didn't want to move, you ignored their advice.

trying to focus on anything else besides your upset stomach, you place the book titled "matilda" by roald dahl, in perfect condition, by your side and decide to enjoy the view outside as the car moves along from the backseat. it wasn't a lifesaver but it was better than feeling your head heavy as you read the tiny words in the paper.

the houses were all the same. boring, lifeless and with a few flowers or bushes outside just to bring some color. what a lame city, you thought. no colorful houses, fun playgrounds or a nice park in sight. but that changed at the exact same moment as you saw lottie's house. a perfect planned garden in the front and impeccably painted walls capable of telling anyone that the house was pretty, yes, but the people living inside of it were superior. liking or not, the house was pretty but not as far pretty as her.

lottie was upstairs in the window of her bedroom when you saw her, you couldn't decide if she was staring outside like she was waiting for something or just watching people go by as if she was trapped inside. either way, she waved at you and, hesitantly, you waved back.

the following years consisted in sleepovers, movie nights and little discussions in the book club you two invented. safe to say that you became best friends almost too immediately.

lottie was a loner when she was home with no one to watch her except for a old lady that worked for the matthew's as a housekeeper or a nanny. you never knew and she was scary. playing pranks on her was almost a daily occurrence and an invention of lottie. like dyeing her clothes pink or switching salt and sugar and watching the distorted face of pure horror and agony in lottie's parents faces during dinner, when they invited you over. you and lottie had to cover your mouth or look down to not laugh but couldn't ever not exchange glances across the table.

her parents knew, of course. "your parents must be waiting for you. it's late isn't it?" was lottie's moms way of telling you to leave. you would say goodbye to lottie and hold her hand extra tight, knowing that the second the door closed behind you, you would hear her parents scolding her. you could see a curious mix between fear and excitement in her eyes when you were about to leave and you thought that that would be the last time she would prank that poor lady, but no. she would always come up with something new. deep down you knew that she was just craving attention from her parents and she would be glad to accept some mean words from them if it meant that they would talk to her instead of disappearing in work.

every day after the pranks were the same. the next morning, you showed up at school with two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. one for you and the other one for lottie, of course. maybe it was your way of supporting her as you could. as a nine year old, peanut butter sandwiches were your favorite and you would always eat them if you were feeling sad. you never knew why she would eat it entirely and as fast as she could, kiss your cheek and run away, telling you she was late. it was lunch time and she was nine. what could she possibly be late for?

but the smile on her face exposing her teeth shaped like little fangs every single time she saw you with a simple extra sandwich on hands made just for her, became your new favorite thing in the world.

during your teenage years, nothing changed. almost nothing. lottie was still a loner at home but was kind of a popular girl at school. not like your other friend jackie, but still popular. you and lottie tried for the wiskayok high yellowjackets; a girl's soccer team. you both made it to the team and quickly made some new friendships but nothing as close as what you two had. you were popular as well, sure, but you didn't care about that. it took you a few weeks to realize that jackie was popular because of her personality. you, lottie and other girls were popular because you were on the team.

regardless, after every unsuccessful exam, every bad moment with lottie's parents, every failed practice day, you were right by her side holding a sandwich with silly drawings made out of peanut butter and jelly. despite being best friends, you were both changing. different hair, different ways of dressing, different ways to look at each other. the only thing that never truly changed was the smile on lottie's lips and it was exactly like how you remember from when you were nine.

there was that one day when lottie had an awful day at practice after a fight with her parents last night and she was sitting on the aluminun bench in the locker room. she had her head down and her dark curls styled in low pigtails.

"hi." you sit by her side. she looks up and you notice her red eyes. "hi." she whispers. lottie would never let people see her in vulnerable moments but near you, she wouldn't hide a thing.

"should i go to your house in the middle of the night and dye your parents clothes pink like when we were kids?" your voice was playful but you knew that if the answer was yes, you would happily do it.

you feel your heart beating faster as you hear lottie's breathy laugh and feel proud of yourself for making her happy now. then, in a few seconds, the weak smile faded and the locker room fell into silence.

"do you think i'm a freak?" her words make your heart shatter. lottie would tell you everything, except from that one big secret thing that she was forbidden to talk about by her parents. you never mentioned it after noticing how she would get uncomfortable. or after noticing how her parents would always change the conversation to something else if she was blabbing too much. or when you saw a small orange bottle with pills inside with a label that said "charlotte matthews".

you take a moment to think of something to say until you realize that there was no right thing. lottie just wanted support. she needed your support. "i think you are strong." you say. you knew that she didn't have a choice, she had to be strong. but yet, it was something you admired in her.

"lott, i don't know what is happening and i won't ever force you to tell me. but i know you for years now and i know what you are." she remains quiet but at least she's still looking at you.

"you are so smart. brilliant, actually. you are great at soccer, you have an amazing fashion sense" you joke "a heart of gold."

"and you are beatiful."

lottie says nothing but you can see a subtle spark of relief in her eyes. instead, she hops closer to you and rest her head on your shoulder. you do the same, gently laying your head on top of hers. you were staring at that same old boring blue locker in front of you when you feel lottie's hand grabbing yours. you feel nothing but euphoria when she intertwined your fingers together as your hands were placed between you two.

your smile was so wide that you were actually happy that lottie couldn't see you. and you couldn't see her face as well but something was telling you that she was also smiling while her thumb was Involuntarily caressing your hand. you weren't sure if that was something that best friends did, at least not in such an intimate way. but you were hoping that it meant something more.

you hear steps getting louder and realize that practice was over and the girls were coming to change clothes. unanimously, you two distance yourselves from each other just in time and, taking a quick glance at lottie, you see her face entirely red.

"are you okay, lottie? we were worried. jackie said that she can dismiss you tomorrow." shauna gets closer to you two, touching lottie's shoulder and squeezing it softly in reassurance.

"it's okay. i'm all good." she looks up and smiles at her friend.

you stand up and grab your backpack, pulling out a small paper bag with something unmistakable inside. lottie and shauna look at you and still feeling a bit shaky, you handle it to lottie with a shy smirk and lots of mumble.

"peanut butter sandwich. to make you feel better, you know the drill, right?" you laugh awkwardly and lottie's cheeks that were just going back to its original color, got pinkish again. the same old smile was also there.

"thank you. movie night tonight?" she asks full of hope.

"absolutely. can't wait to watch drew barrymore in scream." you nod excitedly. later that night you would find out that she would only appear in the screen for ten minutes and lottie would make fun of you for that.

after you left, shauna tapped lottie's shoulder to catch her attention. she looked at shauna but her hands were carefully holding the paper bag against her body as if she was taking care of something precious.

"i thought you were allergic to peanuts?" shauna frowns.

"yeah. but it's their favorite."

A/N: originally, this was going to be about the flashback weekend chicago, but after seeing the q&a from the fan expo in Denver i decided to change it

After leaving the set of Riverdale when the filming wrapped and the wrap party (and the production also gave you and Jack some gifts), both of you returned to LA to rest a little before going to the Fan Expo in Denver

"Tornado, hurry up!", Skeet exclaimed from the first floor, "We still need to go get Jack"

"I'm almost done!", you responded putting a few last things in your travel bag, "At least my suitcase and Tatum's carrier is already there"

"Just hurry up, our flight is at 1 pm"

"Chill dad, I was just making sure that I didn't forget anything", you said starting to get downstairs with your bag and Tatum in your arms, "I'm ready"

"Great, let's get the things to the car"

Taking the suitcases and the bags, both of you along with Tatum still in your arms went to the car parked on the entrance of the house to put the suitcases and carrier on the truck and leave towards the Champion house

"I texted your siblings to come and take care of the garden the day that they can", Skeet said the moment the car started the way

"Okay", you nodded, "And I already texted Jack to say we are on our way"

"And I need you to sleep during the flight"

"What? Why?"

"Because you spent the entire night awake watching TV"

"I was watching Shadow and Bone, and it was incredible"

"And now you have baggy eyes that I can see with all the concealer you put on, how many chapters did you watch?"

"Like half or more of the first season"

"Enough reason to you to sleep during the entire flight, and when we arrive to the hotel I'll take away your iPad during the night so you can sleep properly, understood?"

"Yes, dad", you nodded, "But, hey, at least this time was because of a series instead of hate tweets"

For the rest of the road, you spend it explaining everything about the series while Tatum decided to take a little nap in your lap until the car stopped in front of the Champion house where both of you and Tatum in your arms got out of the car to walk to the entrance

"Hi angel, hi Skeet", Anna greeted the moment she openned the door, "Come in, Jack is still finishing packing, he must come down in a moment"

"Can I go help him?", you asked

"Yeah, sure", Anna nodded

"Don't take too long, our flight is at 1", Skeet said

"Okay", you exclaimed already halfway of the stairs

Reaching the second floor, you with Tatum in your arms walked to the door were you knew his room was, noticing the door was open, you leaned into the entrance

"Good morning my love", you sang getting his attention, which made him turn to look at you from his bed where he was finishing his backpack, "You're ready for the convention?"

"Good morning", Jack smiled sharing a kiss with you the moment you entered the room, "Almost, I'm just making sure I don't forget anything"

"Need some help?", you asked siting in his bed letting Tatum walk on the soft surface

"Do you think I over-packed?", Jack asked you, which caused you to open his suitcase, "I feel like I put a lot of clothes only for a weekend"

"Just like what I've told you many times, it's not over-packing, it's having options just in case the outfit you pictured in your head doesn't come out as you imagined it"

"You're right", Jack nodded closing his suitcase along with his backpack, "Are you bringing Tatum's carrier?"

"Can Butters and Tatum share it? I'm just thinking about the space, the flight and all that"

"Of course! They are going to have fun in there"

"Kids, I'll leave without you if you don't come down in the next five minutes!", Skeet exclaimed from the first floor

Gattering the things and the cats quickly, both of you went down stairs to say goodbye and go to the airport

After two hours in the airport and almost five on the plane (in which you slept almost all the time), the three of you and the cats arrived in Denver when it took an hour to arrive to the hotel, which was close to the convention center

"We're going to settle in our rooms and then we are going to have a small reunion to check the schedule for the weekend", Skeet said while the elevator went up to the right floor, "And we're also getting dinner later with the rest"

"I can't wait to bother uncle Matthew until he unblock me from insta", you joked once the elevator doors openned

"Still?", Skeet asked in shock

"Yeah, I even texted Macey and Addison to help me, but they said he doesn't regret it"

"Why did he block you again?", Skeet asked while openning the room door

"She asked him if Stu's alive", Jack laughed

"It was a joke", you exclaimed while entering the room noticing there was only one bed, "Dad, we aren't sleeping the three of us in the same bed, it's going to be weird"

"The door at the left is your room", Skeet said walking towards that door next to the TV and dresser to reveal a room exactly the same, "I couldn't get a suite with two rooms and this was the closest thing we got, go on to organize your things, we have to be on the meeting room in forty minutes"

Entering you room and leaving the suitcases and bags on the bench next to the desk and the cat carrier on the couch next to the window letting them out to explore the room, you and Jack started to got some things out of your travel bags to the bathroom and baby dragon Jake on the bed

When the hour to go to the meeting room arrived, the three of you and the cats went to the last floor to the meeting room

"Aunt Neve! Aunt Rose!", you exclaimed running towards them the moment you saw them near a table

When they heard your voice and turned in your direction, Neve and Rose inmediatly openned their arms to hug you the moment you arrived

"I swear that every time we see you, you are taller", Neve said when the hug ended

"Not only taller, she also got a tattoo", Rose added looking at your left hand

"It's the sneakers, they have a little platform", you shrugged adjusting Tatum in your arms

"I'm going to asume this little friend is Tatum", Rose said looking at the orange cat seeing everything with curiosity, "She has almost the same hair color I had in the movie"

"I know", you smiled, "Want to hold her?"

"Of course", Neve smiled taking the cat in her arms

After saying hi to the rest and introducing Jack to the ones who didn't knew him in person yet, all of you sat at the tables while someone from the expo arrived

"Goodnight to everyone, it's good to see you", the person greeted everyone, "Okay, the day starts tomorrow as soon at you arrive with the autographs and then with the photo ops, we start with Henry Winkler at 7.40 pm who's arriving early tomorrow, then Rose at 8.00, Jamie and Skeet at 8.10, a team up of Skeet and Matthew at 8.20 and Matthew at 8.30"

"On saturday we have more photo ops starting with Skeet at 3.30, Neve at 3.40, a team up again of Skeet and Matthew at the same hour, a team up of Neve, Jamie, Skeet and Matthew at 4.10, Rose at 4.40, a team up with everyone at 4.50, individual ones of Henry, Jamie and Matthew at 5.10"

"On sunday we have the photo op with everyone at 11.10, Rose at 11.20, a team up with Neve, Jamie, Skeet and Matthew at the same hour, Jamie at 11.50, a team up with Skeet and Matthew at 11.50, Skeet at 12.20, the panel with Neve, Jamie, Skeet and Matthew with surprise aparitions of Y/N and Jack at 12.45, Matthew and Neve had individual photo ops at 1.50, and that's the end of the event, by the way, there's an Avatar cosplay meet up at 2.30, Jack, would you like to attend?"

"Sure, sounds good", Jack nodded

"Perfect, the schedules were already sent to you to your emails, any questions?"

"Can we bring our cats to the panel?", you asked raising your hand

"Of course, we are pet-friendly"

Hearing that, you and Jack high-fived while the adults looked at both of you with fun

After two days of being locked in the hotel to not ruin the surprise appearence, you and Jack finally got to get out to the hotel to go to the convention

Doing a reference to the franchise you decided to wear a white short-sleeve top, high waisted jeans and black run star hike converse, with a small silver backpack were you had yours and Jack things, with some cat treats and toys; while Jack used a black tank t-shirt with an open black and red short sleeve button up, his worn out jeans and checkerboard vans

When the time to go to the convention center arrived, you and Jack stayed backstage until the time to the panel arrived

"How are you feeling?", you asked while having breakfast from one of the food stations on the convention, "About going there with the OG's and answering questions"

"Good, a bit nervous", Jack admited

"This things are usually easy and funny, like they ask the funniest question ever and then you got the most serious and emotional question, like a live interview, actually this is my first time going on stage, I usually was sitting on othe first line or something like that"

"They are going to be surprised when we apeare there"

"Totally, we should prepare something to say when we apeare"

Continuing to have breakfast and planning what to say, the time to start going to the hall arrived, joining the adults to go there

"Hey, I saw the trailer of your new movie", Neve said to Jack refering to Retribution, "It looks awesome"

"Thanks", Jack smiled, "I really appreciate it"

"Where was it filmed?", Jamie asked, "The locations looks cool"

"Berlin, I filmed it right after Avatar"

"Spends four years running around and then he gets to sit in a car the entire new movie", Matthew joked

"Give my boy a rest", Skeet spoke

"Yeah, he needed to rest for the killing spree", you said

Keeping with the chatting and small jokes, the way continued until you reached the behind the stage, when the sound of a lot of fans behind the curtains could be heard

"Okay, kids, both of you look good as well as Butters and Tatum", Skeet sighed before entering the stage, "Rose and Henry are going to appeare for a few seconds so you have to enter before them, understood?"

"Yes", both of you nodded

"Perfect, see you in a few seconds"

"Please welcome to the stage first, give it up for Jamie Kennedy! Keep that applause going as we welcome to the stage Skeet Ulrich! Alright next up Fan Expo Denver please welcome Matthew Lillard! And last but certainly not least please welcome Sidney Prescott herself, Neve Campbell!", the lead of pannel said while the four adults entered the stage and took seats in the couches, "Wow, Matthew, brought a professional camera on stage, very nice! Thank you all for being here, give it up one more time for them Fan Expo Denver"

Hearing softer applauses, both of you decided to get close to the curtain next to the stage

"We've got a lot of questions in the audience, we wanna get to them as soon as possible because that's what this is about, it's about the fans asking their questions", the lead continued, "But I just wanted to keep things off, 1996 was an amazing year for film in general, we had films like Twister, Mission Impossible, The Robbery, you might have heard of another film called The Craft that came out that year everybody, with Skeet and Neve with the reimagining of the horror franchise with everyone's favorite Scream film, there's six films and the fans are still ravenous for this franchise, I'd just love to kick things off before we go to the fans and talk go down the line and just talk a little bit of what it means to be a part of this and what it feels like to have the fans come and tell you how important this horror franchise was"

Deciding to enter right before the conversations start, both of you came out of the curtain to stand in front of the stairs

"Excuse me, is this econ?", Jack asked refering to the alibi of his character

"Best known as Ghostface 101", you added

"Everyone, please welcome Jack Champion and Y/N Ulrich!", the lead exclaimed, "They are going to be with us during the panel so you can ask them questions too"

Entering the stage between the applauses of the people, both of you stopped in the middle of the stage to held Butters and Tatum like in The Lion King, before turning and sat on the couch between Neve and Skeet taking the two left microphones

"Guys, we're so happy you're here, I'm going to go with you in a few moments, but before I want to hear everyone responses to the question", the lead said, "Jamie, we start with you"

"It's incredible", Jamie started, "I think we hit lightning in a bottle when we did the movie, we were this little movie, we just thought 'well, maybe we can do good in video' and so much to say but it is incredible and was just hit lightning in a bottle, and here we are 27 years later, it's incredible"

"It's kinda of certainly in the moment none of us could process that this would ever exist, that people would still involved, you know, into this series", Skeet continued, "We're just a bunch of kids we've got together to do what we love to do and I think that's the power of finding what it is your love to do and you never know what will happen with it, certainly I could never predict this so thank you all, thank you each and everyone"

"Oh my gosh, everyone behind the curtain is Rose McGowan", the lead exclaimed while Rose took a seat in the empty couch, "Rose thank you for joining us, Rose has a solo pannel later at 2 pm so definitely check that out, but thank you for joining us on stage"

"Hi everybody", Rose greeted, "Scream forever, literally this is amazing, I just wanted to come and say that Tatum lives and I love you all the fabulous, beautiful panel"

Finalizing that, Rose left the panel with everyone smiling for the cameo

"Let's not forget that Rose will be at her table all day, and also is doing solo panel so for you all Rose McGowan fans, and those Chramed fans out there in the building check it out at 2 pm right over the next door, Matt, talk about the legacy and what this franchise means to you"

Pretending to not know what to say, Matthew stayed quiet with a panic face making everyone laugh before answering the question

"First of all is very humbling that so many people showed up today, I think we are all sort of amazed and honored, we were making a horror movie with Wes Craven who hadn't made a good horror movie in a long time, God bless his soul we love him, but in the moment it was nothing special, it's not until now that you recognize that you were in the middle of something, so for us it was just one of the greatest times we've ever had working and the results are baffling to us in a way cause every single time we get these opportunities to interact it is humbling, so we are grateful you guys, thank you"

"Oh my gosh, it's principal Himbry everybody, it's Henry Winkler", the lead exclaimed at the same time Henry entered the stage causing everyone to stand up to give him a standing ovation before sitting again, "Oh my gosh, all this surprises that we didn't planned ahead of time"

"I only have two things to say", Henry spoke, "28 years ago I had lunch, sushi lunch, with Wes Craven who wore tweed and you would think you were talking to an english professor and he said 'I have this small part in my movie, would you do this' I said of course, and then turned out to be this incredible sociological event, and I wanted to say I have not seen these people for 27 years, except of course the young ones, we saw each other at another Comic-Con at it was like we've been together forever, they are everything you imagine they are, and that is just the truth, there is no hyperbole in that, and the second thing is I was there and then I was told they're not gonna put my name on the movie because I made the funds and he was going to throw the balance of the horror off, so I went 'okay' and we're not going to be on the one sheet, we will not be in the commercial poster, I won't be there either and I went 'okay' and then they previewed the movie and my character walked on screen and I got applause, and the same people who said 'go home', said 'excuse me, would you do press for the movie', and never know in our business have the greatest summer, be careful and take care of each other, and I'm so proud to be a member of your family"

The moment Henry finnished his speech, Matthew was quick to stand up and hug him followed by the rest of you to applaude him, being the next people to hug, even if he didn't know you and Jack to well

"I don't like sitting on the stage, I'm going to walk around", Matthew said taking him camera, "I'm really don't like it"

"Can we hear from Neve really quick?", the lead spoke, "You know, you're arguably the best final girl of all time, one of those characters, what it does make you feel? And Matt I'm going to let you take it away with the audience questions"

"I thought you were actually talking to Matt when you said that", Neve joked causing everyone to laugh, "I'm sorry, Henry is such a joy, I mean he's just the most magical, these movies changed my life, made my life, changed my life, you know as these guys said, we had no idea, there was no way to have an idea, you would never, how often does this happen that you get to make this many movies and have it be successful and more importantly loved, you know, I can't believe I'm sitting in front of you guys, I feel like every time we have an audience like this and whenever I see this guys and whenever anyone comes up and tells me that Sidney save them or that these movies help them in some way it's just tremendous, there's no way to really fathom the reach that it's had, and I'm so so so grateful and so grateful to you all"

"Jack, Y/N, anything to say?"

Sharing a look, Jack encouraged you to spoke first

"I've been in love with this franchise since the moment my siblings put the mask on me and later when I saw them at eight years old, even my cat is named after one character, and seeing it to keep growing and having more fans because these are classics is something amazing, like I had classmates that aproached to me saying things like 'I saw Scream the other day, can you tell your dad he was scary' was something that made me realize these movies are going to be forever, so seeing fans all over the world no matter the age is amazing"

"Yeah, this movies are athemporal, like you can see them at any year and don't think that they're old or something like that, because they have iconic characters, scenes, moments and more, you can see people of all ages talking about them, and honestly when I was younger and saw them I've never think I would be able to be a part of something this big but I'm grateful to play one of the recent ghostfaces and meeting incredible people"

"Let's give it up for the cast of Scream everybody", the lead continued causing the public to cheer, "Alright, let's go with the audience questions"

"There's a line, so why don't you do the first question?", Matthew said to someone in the audience from where he was standing next to them

"Um, do you guys have advice for young people who are trying to be in the world of acting?"

"A million things to say", Skeet responded, "Several things and I'm sure everybody could add more to it but um never quit, never quit living your dream, never quit believing in yourself, never let Hollywood be the standard for success in your mind, finding what you love to do is the success, so congratulate yourself and that and then continue to grow as a person and as an artist and express yourself, don't follow anybody else, be you and I guarantee you that you will find success in more ways that you can imagine"

"My name is Silah, and I've seen every single Scream movie", a kid started to say

"That's a baby", you exclaimed with cuteness

"It has the same age as Trinity when we started filming Avatar", Jack added without the microphone, "Maybe younger"

"Where are your parents?", Matthew asked making everyone laugh, "Child Protective Services, that child is like five"

"So, I'd like to know what's your favorite scary movie"

"I love the movie called The Changeling with George C. Scott", Neve responded

"How old are you Silah?", Jamie said

"Eleven, I know I'm short"

"Listen, there's these movies out there called Barney", Jamie joked, "Silah, I'm just going to say Showgirls, absolutely I am, don't watch that!"

"I love 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose', 'Hereditary'", Skeet said

"REC is one of my favorites", you responded, "Pearl, Jennifer's Body, Carrie, Don't Breathe"

"I'm going to go with 'The Shinning'", Jack spoke

"Matthew, do you have a favorite horror movie?"", the lead said noticing Matthew returned to the stage

"I came back to the stage because there's so many people, I usually like roaming around and trying to touch you and... I want to come back to the stage, my favorite horror movie is Scream, Silah, you did a great job asking that question", Matthew said, "To the young person that just said what do you do as an actor, can I just chime in on that? So here's what I'm going to say, wherever you are, here's the deal, there's a lot of people on this room and some people are outside the norm that don't like sort of fit in the middle of high school and don't walk the way other people walk through life, and so some of those people are actors, and artists, and singers, and dancers, and I don't know, whatever you do that's not normal those people that don't play football, the most important thing is you find your people and do your shit, that's the right way, do not ever rule it by success, just follow a passion, I don't give a shit what it is, go do your thing and you will find your way to Hollywood or wherever is going to be but find what you love to do and fly that flag, periodt, and there's to many people so I'm going to sit back in here"

"Hi guys, I'm Adam and I'm a big fan, so you guys are arguably a part of one of the biggest casts for any horror movie ever and obviously the films that have followed kind of a similar formula of following just commentary on horror movies as a whole, but in the first and sixth movie I was wondering if you guys, spoiler alert if any of you haven't seen this movies why are you here, but did you guys know that Billy Loomis, Stu Macher and Ethan Landry were going to be the killers going in or was kept in the dark for you guys as well?"

"I knew", Neve responded making everyone laugh because of the way she said it, "I didn't know, but I think some cast were kept in the dark"

"Yeah, we knew", Skeet nodded

"It is always in the dark", Matthew joked

"I love Being and I Know What You Did Last Summer", Jamie sais answering the previous question, "Um no, we knew in the first one that they were and I'll let these guys answer but the second one is where we didn't get a lot of details"

"That's right", Neve nodded

"I knew my character was going to be ghostface when suddenly Liana, who plays Quinn, and I got a new wardrobe test programmed, they show us the robes and the masks with our scripts for the final act, and I got to use the costume for the appartment attack", Jack responded

"Hi I'm Jake, and speaking of the second movie my question is pretty much for anyone, but with the second movie production was incredible quick, several script re-writes, was there ever a moment where you doubted Wes Craven or Kevin Williamson during those moments?"

"Never", Jamie said mostly looking at Neve while talking, "The script came on and the next thing we know, we were making a sub-movie called Stab and in Stab, Luke Wilson is like 'I'm going to play Skeet', and Heather Graham was in it, and it was like we had a cast within a cast within a cast and it was incredible, and like, the moment they green light, you're on the cover of Rolling Stone, remember?"

"Yeah, that was a great timing", Neve laughed

"Yeah, you guys were dead and you two weren't born at the time", Jamie joked

"Next question", Matthew said, "What's your problem, bro?"

"Shout out to Wes Craven obviously, the filmmaking genius, but shout out to Kevin Williamson the writer", the lead commented, "The movie feels fresh, you know"

"They were both incredible, you know, clever and sure, these films are complicated to get right and that doesn't mean that there wasn't doubt within them of like, you know, having to question and go over things and do rewrites and stuff, but we didn't, I certainly didn't doubt that they wouldn't, that they would get it, you know, what I mean it's just a process especially when it's a who done it, yeah it takes a minute"

"Hi, my name is Gabby, and my question is for Y/N, I know you're a swiftie, I am too, so my question is, which Taylor Swift songs would you relate to Scream?"

"That's an amazing question, Gabby, excellent music taste", you exclaimed adjusting Tatum in your lap, "Welcome to NY for this recent movie because is set there, Bad Blood for the betrayals, Vigilante Shit for the ghostfaces focusing on the line 'I don't dress for women, I don't dress for men, lately I've been dressing for revenge', No Body No Crime for when they are pointing the suspects for the phrase 'I think he did it, but I just can't prove it', I Did Something Bad for Sam, Mastermind for the ghostfaces and their plans, The Great War for Sidney, Gale, Sam, Tara and the rest of the survivors, I Knew You Were Trouble for Sidney and Billy's relationship, I think that's it, and I can't wait for Reputation Taylor's Version to be released"

"And I also wanted to give you a gift", Gabby added

"You're so sweet, I'll go with you"

Leaving Tatum in Neve arms and your microphone in your spot in the couch, you went down the small stairs to sprint towards her and share a hug, before breaking it

"I hope you like it", Gabby said giving you the gift bag

"Thank you so much", you smiled taking it in your hands, "I'm sure I will"

Returning to the stage with the gift bag, you took sit again in your spot between Neve and Jack leaving it on the floor next to you, taking Tatum in your arms again and the mic

"Open it! Open it!", Matthew started to chant followed by everyone in the room

Laughing, you picked the gift back again letting Tatum walk towards Jack and Butters to openned it, seeing first something that felt like a throw blanket in black

"It's a blanket", you said getting the blanket out of the bag to start to unfold it noticing a bundle of curly chesnut hair and a forehead which you knew perfectly, "Is this what I think it is?"

"What is it? We want to see", Jamie said

Unfolding it completely, your suspitions were correct when the photo of Jack in his Stabathon shirt was revealed as the design of the blanket

"No way!", Jack laughed covering his face with his hands

"This is amazing", you laughed letting everyone in the panel see the blanket, "I'm going to sleep in this for the rest of my lfe"

"Can I ask what was the reaction of the store when you ordered this?", Skeet asked the girl who gave you the gift

"I don't know, I ordered it online"

"You can order these things online?", Matthew asked

"You'd be surprised for all the things you can order there", Neve joked

"I'm going to start using it right now", you said covering yourself and Tatum with the blanket, "It's a bit chilly here"

"This is certainly a unique gift", the lead commented, "Can we go to the next question? We are a little thight on time"

"My name is Ally, my question is because like you guys have thrown around, you guys manhandled a lot and um, we were watching the movie last night and like the scene were Sidney stabbed Billy in the chest with an umbrella, ouch, so I was just wondering if any of the injuries that you've got, like, have you got hurt on set and if so what was the worst injury that you've got on the set of Scream or any movie, more certaimly Scream"

"I feel like I hurt myself", Neve joked, "It was never other people, it was my enthusiasm, I think sometimes I would be a bit too much go-getter and I could've held back on a few things but nothing terrible"

"The scene between obviously Billy and Stu, that iconic final scene, one of the best scenes in horror movie history, am I right?", the lead added, "Where we're seeing them reveal themselves as the killers, there's a lot of stabbing going back and forth, the shooting, any sort of alterarions there"

"I know what Matt's gonna say", Skeet spoke, "The phone really hurt, you know, really hurt to be hit by the phone"

"That was totally not cool", Matthew said, "Yeah, it's funny, that whole scene I think is a testament to obviously Wes and to Kevin but I want to say that the, like, we were again young kids hurling energy at 18 pages of dialogue or 20 pages of dialogue and they were night when we would shoot, you know six pm to six in the morning enery single night for like three weeks and at some point when you're in that kind of energy for that long you start to loose your mind a little so there are moments in that thing where I had these distinct memories of the three of us sitting in like the living room against the wall and this is before cellphones just so we're clear, that's how old this movie is"

"They actually talk to each other", Neve joked

"That's super weird everyone", Matthew continued, "But all three of us had blood in our bodies and literally we would all sit there and just sticky, your fingers would be like sticking with the stickiness and I'd look at Neve and be like 'look' and then do the same to Skeet and that's a true story and, that's so really what got hurt was our minds"

"I'm Kennedy, so I love it-"

"Great name", Jamie interrupted

"So I love horror movies and the Scream franchise but how I got into horror movies or scary stuff was Scooby-Doo and so, so it was a big impact in my life and I was wondering, for Matthew, what was it like being on the set for Scooby-Doo like for the live action, because that was a big for me when I was younger"

"First of all thank you for your question, um, so that was a very difficult journey because you're taking a two-dimensional character that everyone knows, that I grew up with and trying to make it into a three-dimensional real person and your best friend in the movie isn't there ever, he's never there, he never shows up, but I was lucky that there was a man in Australia who is the off-camera voice who is Neil Fanning, thank Good, who is the off-camera voice and he was with me the first and second movie and that movie for me, for a long time hung on me like this I was kind of embarrased about the film, the first one was great, the second one was like ah, and I didn't work-"

"The second one is the one I always watch", Kennedy interrupted causing everyone to laugh, "I wasn't a fan of the first one"

"Fair enough, fair enough", Matthew laughed, "The best part about that movie and the franchise is that the legacy of that part for me has given me purposes my career goes on as I'm waning and getting older and my time in this industry is coming relatively to an end there's-oh stop, I'm gonna die, it's gonna happen, I'm just hope I make like CNN, that's all I want, 'today that guy from that thing died'- but listen, the great thing about that for me is that this moment right here is so validating for my entire life, is that you get to hold space for a character that means something to other people, the same thing that Neve just said is that we cherish doing something that resonates with people, I have lots of movies that are really terrible that nobody gives a shit about it, but to have one that you come up and mention today is literally profoundly, gratifying in my life so thank you"

"Skeet, we're seeing this younger generation now being introduced to the films of Scream, literally in the movies we're getting the next generation, we got Jack here who is part of them, you got to return to it, what is it like seeing like the new generation and actually being part of that storytelling in the newer films", the lead asked

"First of all it's an honor to be asked to be a small part of it, to be any part of it, you know, I feel like the group that took over, Wes would be really proud and I'm sure Neve could speak to that more having to spent more time with theme on set more than I did in five"

"We were only there for one day", you commented

"Exactly, for this last one we've got to stay the entire filming", Skeet nodded, "But I feel like they were really focused on honoring Wes and the franchise as a whole and I think they did a great job and I think they brought it, there's an excitement you know, when I watched it for the first time, it's relevant and it's now and yet it's still harkens back to what the story is and what the legacy of the story is, I think they picked a great group of people to tell it, it's wild because Mason Gooding I worked with his dad Cuba Gooding a couple times so it's wild to you know be that old, my boy Jack right here was a great character and put a lot of heart in his interpretation, I think the franchise is in great hands and you know, I was very honored to be a part of it, even my youngest Y/N is now part of it, however little that was it was fun, I mean unfortunately we didn't get a lot of time on set and COVID was when we were shooting the fifth one so we didn't get to like wasn't, I got to work with Melissa and that was kind of it, and the sixth there was no one with me on set, not because of COVID it was just the green screen and all that stuff you know I was alone with it, but again, just honored to be asked to be a part of it"

"Y/N, you mentioned before that you grew up with the movies and know you are part of them, you had a cameo on this last movie, can you told us how did you end up in there"

"Yeah, I did my cinematographic cameo debut in this movie, and for those who haven't noticed me, I'm in the Halloween party at the start using a FP Jones costume, so the talks about me doing a cameo started during the filming of the fifth, I think Radio Silence saw my enthusiasm for being in the set and heard me and Melissa talking about the films and that, and also dad mentioned it that I saw the movies at a young age, so before we left the set they mentioned it and I inmediatly said yes of course, but because I was a minor at the time mom and dad had to give their permition, and when the time to film aproached, they send us our contracts and that, and later we flew to Montreal to film, but they didn't told me what my cameo will be until two or three days before filming, and I feel like my father right here needs to tell this next part of the story"

"I already know what her cameo will be because they send me an email a week before filming so the morning before our flight I entered her room while she was sleeping, went to her closet, got the serpents jacket and put it on my suitcase and she didn't know I took it until that moment"

"So, long story short, they get me on costume and make up, went to set, got a date, film my part and never returned to set to avoid being spoiled of everything"

Finishing your storytime, everyone was laughing because how you tell everything, before continuing with the next question

"Hi, I'm Lily, first of all, it's awesome to be able to talk to literal legends"

"Where are they?", Skeet joked, "Henry left"

"And also, Neve you're like my literal hero so it's nice to see you in person like this is blowing my mind right now, and then my question for all of you is what was your favorite scene or line from the movies that you did?"

"You know, it wasn't necessary, I mean for me one that I think and it's probably the one I guess get asked to sign the most but to me has seems to have the most relevant psychologically in my life and probably a lot of people's lives and is 'we all go a little mad sometimes' because we do, we do and I think you got to allow that in yourself, but that one for me"

"I don't now", Neve laughed, "I've done a lot of these"

"What's your favorite of all of theme?", Matthew asked

"My favorite line of all of them? I'm Sidney fucking Prescott, of course I have a gun"

"I like, we improv stuff in that last piece that I like so I think the one 'my mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me', you're laughing at the end of an horrific movie, so that was mine"

"I had fun saying all the dialogues of Ethan before and after reveal, but the one I like the most is 'it's not enough to just kill someone these days, you have to assassinate their character first'"

"You know, I don't say anything at all during my less than five minutes on screen so I'm just going to say a phrase of this last one that I think about everyday", you said, "Who gives a fuck about movies"

"That's a lot because we have so ones we like, I probably think mine was 'I was never so happy to be a virgin', well that rule being said it's weird because I died in the second movie tragically and I don't remember getting any sex, so something went on I don't know where, I don't know, you know what, what's amazing about you guys is that you guys teach me and all of us do stuff that we don't even remember about the films so somebody said when I was talking on the phone or with David there was a fourth rule in Scream 2 and I don't know what it is and somebody came up to me the last convention and said 'the fourth rule is never kill the voice of the audience' and I was so touched, anyways, sorry guys I'm avaliable for birthday parties"

"Hi, my name is Kyla and I have a question for Matthew, well two questions, did Skeet ever apologize to you and why did you block Y/N on instagram?"

"I'm so glad you asked that question", Matthew smiled

"I gotta go to the bathroom", Skeet joked

"I just want to say thank you so much, no, you know what you never did and I'll let her explained why I block her", Matthew said turning to give his back to you

"Uncle Matthew, I'm sorry for asking if Stu was alive, it was a joke that you didn't took well, can you forgive me?"

"I forgive you, because at least you didn't hit me with a phone, I'll unblock you after we finish this panel"

"Matt, I know it's been a while", while Skeet was talking, Matthew decided to stand up an walk a few steps far, which made Skeet do the same to get closer to him, "Matt no"

"I'm getting colder"

Finally standing by his side and thanks to Matthew having his hand streched out behind him to stop him for getting closer, Skeet took his arm, while everyone was dying of laughing

"I just would like to apologize for this something I did like 27 years ago, honey"

"I don't accept, I don't accept"

"I was upset in the moment, I was lost"

Accepting the apology, Matthew turn around to hug Skeet

"I'm sorry"

"Somebody called us the first"

"The husbands of horror", Skeet completed

"Dad and dad!", you exclaimed

"Our hugs are not sideways in private", Skeet clarified before sitting

"I'm Alex, if you can pick one character from every Scream movie and it can't be your own to save, who would you pick?"

"I would say Henry Winkler obviously", Skeet responded but then he saw Matthew's face, "Wait, wait, wait, let me apologize"

"Jamie is sitting right there, Jack is sitting right there", Matthew exclaimed, "Jamie is the voice of the audience"

"Henry had all of those great rules"

"And Henry also attended his econ classes"

"I would say Jamie Kennedy and Jack Champion", Matthew said, "I don't remember their characters names, Randy and Ethan over here, I actually think that both Jamie and Jack are gifts, Jamie in that movie is lovely, and Jack is a very talented young man and we both died with the same TV in the head"

Feeling emotional, Jamie ran to hug Matthew who was quick to stand and try to scape but it was late, because Jamie hug him and almost jump on his back

"I have a husband!, Matthew explained, "I have a husband!"

"Who I would save?", Jamie spoke once they returned to their seats, "That's hard to ask"

"I'm right here", Matthew replied, "You don't have to tell me, cause I'm still alive"

"He's still alive, how many people believe that Matthew is still alive", Jamie continued, "I think you're still alive, I would save you if you weren't alive, but if not I would say David"

"I can't say either of these two because I killed them and I wouldn't be the hero, but for me it would be Randy and then Dewey", Neve responded, "It was so painful to watch that"

"Shotout to David Arquette and Courtney Cox who are part of this big family", the lead commented

"I think I'm going to say Quinn, because she's my sister, and also Dewey"

"I have a top five of characters I would save", you said, "Tatum, Jennifer Jolie, Randy, Anika and Ethan"

"You wouldn't save your father?", Skeet asked with pretended indignation

"Billy was a walking red flag, sorry dad", you justified, "I mean, the first thing he says to Sidney on the movie is that The Exorcist reminded him of her"

"You are so right", Neve nodded

"Hi, my name is Nik and I have a question is for Jack, first of all, you were awesome in both Avatar and Scream, so I was wondering who would win a fight between Spider and Ethan?"

"First of all, thank you so much, I really apreciate it, and related to the question, I've never really thought about that, I mean they both have good qualities that can help them in fighting and that, but I think that Spider will be the absolute winner, because um he grew up in Pandora, learned how to fight like the na'vi with all the weapons and fight styles, so yeah, my final answer is Spider"

"Hello, I know you guys are like from movies where a person literally murders people, but what's your favorite Pokemon?"

"What Pokemon are you?", Matthew asked

"I'm Mimikyu"

"That's my favorite", Matthew said

"Mine too", Skeet followed

"Yes, he is a good Pokemon"

"Hi, I'm Liv, I'm a huge fan of Scream but I'm also huge fan of Riverdale, and I was wondering, Skeet, what was it like moving from a serial killer to a dad?"

"Yeah dad, how it was?", you joked

"You're obviously not a parent, it's so close, it's almost the same thing", Matthew said to the girl who asked the question

"Um, you know, yeah I became a dad in real life, well before in Riverdale, but I'm I love that cast, Y/N had the opportunity to go back and Jack got to meet them a week ago, you know, Cole Sprouse is a dear friend of mine, us, now, one of the sweetest, smartest, kindest people, yeah, I missed those guys, in terms of playing it, I don't know, I've been a dad for fifteen years at the point I started that role so I didn't feel that much of a stretch, what was a stretch was, I like to think of myself as a really good dad and he was not a good dad at all, so that was kind of fun to let those demons a little bit, but thank you, thank you so much"

"Can I just add on to that?", Jamie asked, "I think that Skeet is not a dad, he's everybody's daddy"

"What I was gonna say is that we've got a ton of fans out here, um three thousand plus people that have lived and brought up with you, so many young generations that are now discovering this, I'd love that each one of you just kind of went down and just said, you know how the fans mean to you and all the folks that are here to just being in your presence and you know honor the films that you created", the lead said, "Do you have any final words for the fans?"

"First of all, thank you for your question, we were not like throwing that aside, thank you so much", Skeet said, "It's hard to express to be honest, you know, people outside of this world who you know or even actors who don't really necessarily know what we're doing here this weekend can't understand the energy exchange that happens between us and you, I know we all do our best to give you our undivided attention at the table to feel a part of your life for whatever brief moments we get, but the gratitude that we have for you is limitless, I mean, we talk about it all the time and I'm incredibly grateful for you guys, you, you know, we're at a time in our business right now that the future is a bit uncertain and to be honest it's always uncertain, we're in a job where we don't know how much we'll make in a year typically and sometimes is zero, so for you to come out here to take the time to spend your hard-earned money on something to be quite honest that for most of our careers we gave them give away, you know, because we're grateful as it is, it means the world to us, it does feed our families, it does more than you could imagine, so it's not taken with a grain of salt, it is deeply inside of us how grateful we are for each and every one of you"

"I'll just add to that man, I can't really add much more to that, he's one hundred percent correct and it's just the amounts of just, you guys are just voracious with your love and you believe in us and you and it's just look at this, this is 27 years later and you brought, I mean, the energy is incredible, every time I get somebody in my line from older to younger I'm absolutely amazed and I'm just lucky to be a part of it and I just wanted to say thank you and it's like, you brought us back togheter, we've become like a closer little knit family and that's because of you and now we're all one family so I want to say thank you", Jamie continued

"Yeah, I mean all of that, we don't exist without you guys, there is no art unless it's witnessed, you know when you're doing theater you get a sense of an audience and what they're getting from what you're creating and in film and television you don't get that sense unless you do something like this and when I started doing these I really got a very clear sense of the movies have had and my character has had and how much it can mean to people at a level that you know it's really really hard to comprehend and, you know for me I'm an artist because I want to touch people, I want to communicate, I want to feel you, I want you to feel me, I want to understand, I want to storytell, the world gets closer as we share our stories, we understand each other better, perhaps we can be more peaceful with understanding and, sorry I'm gonna cry", Neve said, "I love you guys"

Hearing and seeing how emotional Neve was, you were quick to hug her and rest your head on her shoulder, while Matthew also rubbed her other arm

"Don't fuck with the original!", someone from the audience exclaimed

"Honestly it's I think you can see why, um, I don't know, it's I think they were special because I think that we care deeply and I don't think that I think it's hard on Hollywood sometimes to show how much you appreciate to because there is this sense of like everything's always perfect for us, that we live in this social media world where you asume our lives are pitch perfect and they're not, we go up and go down, we have complications and I think one of the things about this cast that continually amazes me is that their ability to express honest gratitude and so I have nothing to add other than I'm grateful to be with you guys"

"I feel like I can talk in representation of this whole new generation when I say that we are so grateful for recieving us with open arms and giving us the opportunity to tell the stories of the new characters, you know, entering to a franchise who has been alive for 27 years is scary, not gonna lie, because of the generations of fans and you don't know how they are going to react, but after feeling the warm hug of the fandom once you enter so it's really gratifying and nice to be welcome, and this is something for life because of the people you know while filming, they became your friends, your family, and this is one of the great things about this kind of projects", Jack said

"I feel like they said everything so I'm going to do my best", you joked, "This franchise and fandom are still relevant to this day to you guys, because you keep passing the movies through generations, and demostrate interest and love for this movies through your videos, theories, rankings, edits, fanarts, cosplays, custom toys, tattoos, even fanfics, and more other things were you show your love for this, so I'm pretty sure that this franchise is going to last forever because the love each and everyone of you have for the movies is inconditional, so thank you so much for the love you have for every person that is part of this movies"

"You're my favorite content creator!", someone screamed from the audience

"Thank you", you responded

Standing from the couches, the six of you along with the cats posed for a few photos with the fans behind before leaving to go back to the signings and other stuff programed for the day

Returning to the autograph tables, both of you shared a table the expo put during the panel where they put photos to give autographs where a line was starting to grow, leaving for a moment to go to the Avatar cosplay meet up before returning and satying there signing autographs during the rest of the day

Actually, the day after my Billboard Live Osaka, I went to a place called "Sakuya Konohana Kan"🌺🌻🌼Ever since I found out about this botanical garden, I wanted to go there someday!! A tremendous number of plants beyond my imagination! It was truly the best experience...!! ️ There's a greenhouse which is said to be the largest in all of Japan, all the plants there looked really lively and wonderful🎉 I have many more photos so I will be posting them at a later date🥰 On the way back I took a walk through the park outside and headed to the next destination🎶←Please stay tuned!! ️🐟🐢🐧🐬🦈

Photos of "Sakuya Konohana Kan" Part 2 🥳🎉 Sakuya Konohana Kan is one of the largest greenhouses in Japan. Around 5,500 kinds of plants from all over the world are displayed around a space called Flower Hall🌴🌳🌺🌼🍌🌵 The glass-enclosed building is impressive even from the outside 😳✨And really, it is huge! ️🤗 The inside of the greenhouse has gets amazing sunlight, I am convinced that it creates an environment where all the plants can be happy ☀ Part ③ will follow soon!! Sakuya Konohana Kan Part ③ 🥳🎉 A special "Carnivorous Plant Exhibition" was being held so I saw a lot of tropical pitcher plants and got caught in a Venus flytrap🧐. I really like tropical pitcher plants but from my experience, they end up dying in autumn and winter. After all, it is difficult unless you have a greenhouse that is warm all year round😓 Outside, in Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park, I found a manhole with the mascot character of the Flower Expo, Hanazukin-chan!!🧐 The inside and outside of Sakuya Konohana Kan were truly wonderful😍💕 I will definitely come again!! ️!!(Source)

Bandai Japan Schedules My M!X Land Shutdown

With good comes some bad. Bandai Japan announces the official shutdown of the official website that interacts with the Tamagotchi M!X released back in 2016. My M!X Land is set to be shutdown on March 29th, 2024.

2023 was an AMAZING year Tamagotchi. The biggest highlight was the announcement and simultaneous global release of the Tamagotchi Uni. Personally our favorite memory was attending the Tamagotchi Uni launch party in New York City this summer.

We couldn’t imagine celebrating Tamagotchi without our amazing fans. We are looking forward to an even better 2024, so stay tuned to Tama-Palace for the latest and greatest Tamagotchi news. Happy New Year!

Winter Light - Chapter 3

Pairing:Tom Grant (Make Up) x OFC

Summary: Vanessa, a young cancer patient, arrives at a remote holiday park in Cornwall to wait out the rest of her days, but after a chance meeting with a park employee named Tom who's nursing a broken heart, Vanessa realizes life may not be done with her yet.

Warnings: slow burn, fluff with some angst, swearing, serious illness (cancer)

A/N: There's bound to be a lot of content this weekend with JQ's NOLA Fan Expo appearance so I'll the posting the remaining chapters a little later next week. Also, there's some spiciness coming in Chapter 4 (very mild though. Maybe just on the same scale as some black pepper. Or a mild chili.)

Total Perspective Vortex

It was November 5th. The park had been closed for over a week. The remaining staff and the tenants were building a huge scrap pile on the beach, ready for Bonfire Night.

Vanessa watched them from the dunes, where she sat soaking up the last rays of the autumn sun. Tom was there. He waved at her, and she waved back, but she had no desire to join him. For some reason, she wanted to keep their moments together just for themselves, with nobody else encroaching on their solitude. She saw Kai looking over at her and making some sort of remark to Tom, no doubt a provoking one, because Tom then stormed off in a different direction.

Later, Vanessa was resigning herself to an evening with her books when there was a knock on her door. She opened it before the last knock died away, and sure enough, there he was, with his curls all fluffed up by the wind and the smile she'd known so well by now.

"Why aren't you at the bonfire?" she asked.

"Eh, it's just an excuse to get drunk. We can do that here," he said, holding up a six-pack.    

"Sorry, alcohol and my meds don't agree," Vanessa grimaced ruefully.

Tom put the six-pack down, deflated. "Oh. I didn't think about that."

"You go ahead."

"Nah, it's pathetic drinking alone."

Vanessa didn't want him to leave. "How about some hot cocoa then?" she said. "I can't cook, but I make a mean cup of cocoa. And we can watch the fireworks from the dunes."

Tom brightened up. "Sounds good."

When the cocoa was done, Tom carried the mugs to the buff right outside the caravan, and Vanessa followed with a blanket from the sofa. From the buff, they could see the bonfire crackling merrily in the distance. Tom shivered in his thin jumper, so Vanessa offered him a corner of the blanket, but it wasn't big enough to cover both of them. After watching Vanessa struggle with it for a while, Tom held his hand out. "Give it." He took the blanket, wrapped it around himself, and spread his arms out like wings. "C'mere."

Vanessa hesitated, but eventually the cold won out. She sat down in front of Tom, and he enfolded her in his arms, the blanket covering them both. "How's this?"

"Perfect," Vanessa said, trying to resist the temptation to lean into him. She felt his breath tickling her neck and prayed he couldn't see how flushed her face was.

"Sure you don't want to get closer?" Tom asked.

"What?" Vanessa almost shouted. Had he read her thoughts?

"To the bonfire."

"Oh." Her face, if it was possible, got even hotter. She was sure even the tips of her ears were burning and Tom must have seen them. She cleared her throat. "No, this is fine."

Down on the beach, fireworks and rockets were being set off at random, sparklers glowed like fireflies, and some brave soul was even waving around a flare. There was a sense of frenzied, almost unsettling wildness to the whole thing that was so different from the sedate, homemade Bonfire Nights of Vanessa's childhood, and she was glad to be watching it from afar.

"When I was little, we were only allowed a tiny fire in the garden," she said. "No Guy either. In school, me and my friends would make this huge Guy every year, but Mum never let me go watch it get burned. She said it was too dangerous. What she didn't know is that I would climb on the roof to watch the fireworks afterward."

Tom laughed. "And she let you become a lifeguard?!"

"It was at a community pool. Not as if I had to rescue people from the sea all the time."

She could feel Tom grinning as he rested his chin on the top of her head. "Well, you did a great job."

It almost felt normal, snuggling up with him, sipping hot cocoa, watching the fireworks, and talking about her childhood. But Vanessa could feel herself getting too comfortable. She needed to break the spell before it took over. She wriggled out of Tom's arms and got up. "I'm going to get more cocoa, you want some?"

Without waiting for his answer, she walked briskly toward the caravan, but stopped short as she felt sharp twinge in her leg. Tom turned to her. "You all right?"

"Yeah, just my old war injury acting up again," she joked, and went into the caravan, to the bedroom, where her med bag was kept on the bedside table. The pain was building so quickly that just those few steps forced her to sit down. She dug through the bag, then upended it on the bed and sorted through the various bottles with shaking hands.

Tom stepped in. "Everything OK?"

"I can't find my morphine."

He'd seen her chugging it enough to realize how serious this was. "You don't have another?"

"No, I was going to pick up the refill when we go into town next." Her chest felt tight. As if they could sense the barricades were down, the wolves were rushing back, snapping at her bones with razor-sharp teeth.

"When did you last use it?"

"This morning, I think." Her heart sank as she remembered. "I went down to the beach. It must've slipped out of my bag."

Tom dashed out to grab a torch from the kitchen. "I'll go look."

"I'm coming too," Vanessa said through gritted teeth.

"You're in no shape."

"It'll save you a trip back."

Tom didn't argue again. He scooped her up in his arms and ran down to the beach. The party was in full swing now, the bonfire flaring its flames sky-high, its heat reaching them even from a distance. The revelers were dark, monstrous shapes, darting in and out of a hellish red glow that shrouded over everything. Some techno was playing at ear-bleeding volume, the pounding bass combined with the sharp explosions of firecrackers making the constricted feeling in Vanessa's chest worse. 

"Where did you sit?" Tom shouted in her ear. At first, confused by the chaos of the party and the pain, she couldn't tell one dune from another, but when she remembered where she had been in relations to the bonfire, it became clear. She pointed and tried to say "Over there", but it turned into a groan. Tom set her down carefully and started going over the sand with the torch. Vanessa curled up into the fetal position, as if doing so would stop the searing hot needles from spreading all over her bones.

A figure detached itself from the dark whirlwind around the fire and staggered toward them. Kai. "Look who's decided to join us!" he shouted at Tom, his voice slurring.

"Give us some room, mate," Tom said, brushing him aside. "Bit of an emergency here."

Kai saw Vanessa, and his lips twitched up in a leer. He bent down, pressing his face toward her. "Partying too hard, are we?" His breath reeked of alcohol.

Tom pulled Kai away from Vanessa and gave him a shove. "Leave her the fuck alone. She's in pain."

Kai's drunken grin was disconcerting to see, like a dog baring its teeth. "Don't get teasy with me now. Right about the other one, wassan I? Maybe this one's a bit more friendly..."

Tom lunged at the bigger man. "Tom!" Vanessa cried out, half in pain and half in fear. That cry froze Tom in his track. He turned his back on Kai and started sweeping the sand with the torch again. Kai stared at them in confusion for a moment, before lumbering off.

The pain was intolerable - it was no longer confined to her bones, but seemed to have spread over her every tissue until her entire body was one mass of pain. She tried to follow Tom's torch, trying to see where the bottle of morphine could be, but each sweep of light was a knife stabbing into her eyes. She couldn't breathe. The pounding in her ears was deafening. She couldn't tell if it was from the music, the firecrackers, or her own blood. The dark vortex around the fire grew larger. Then Tom was beside her, pressing a bottle to her lips. She swallowed a few gulps, and a black curtain fell over her eyes.

Vanessa woke with an unfamiliar sensation. The pain had dulled but left her tired and sore as if she had run a full marathon. Then she realized what the unfamiliar sensation was. There was someone else in bed with her.

She twisted around, as quietly as her pain-wrecked body allowed. Tom was lying next to her, one arm tucked under the pillow, the other wrapped around her. The morning sun shone weakly through the window, dusting his curls with gold and casting the shadows of his long lashes on his cheeks. Vanessa had to fight the urge to lean over and kiss those shadows.

She knew she had fallen in love with Tom, ever since the day he gave her the plants and smiled at her. Despite her determination to wall up her heart, that smile had broken through the barricades with no effort at all and taken permanent residence inside. The moment she saw it, she'd known. If she could have him smile at her like that for the rest of her life, she would not want anything else. There was something about him that made her feel safe, something that comforted her. Perhaps it was the way he took everything as it came, quietly and without complaint. Perhaps it was the way he always knew what she needed, sometimes even before she realized it herself. Perhaps it was just his smile. But she never really thought much about why she loved him. She just enjoyed it. She enjoyed the fluttering of her stomach whenever she looked at him, enjoyed a brief repose from her misery whenever she thought of him, enjoyed simply being in love without having to worry about him loving her back. In fact, she didn't even want him to love her back, because it meant he would be hurt when she died. She didn't want him to get hurt. But this morning, waking up in bed next to him, she ached for what could have been.

Tom stirred, and Vanessa quickly rolled over, pretending to be asleep so he wouldn't catch her staring at him while he slept. He woke up and leaned over her, so close she could almost feel his lips touching her ear. She heard him let out a sigh of relief at her breathing and felt his hand brushing a strand of hair away of her face, lingering on her cheek for a moment, before he got out of bed.

Vanessa couldn't move much that day. Tom asked for the day off and stayed with her, helping her in and out of bed, cooking, putting the caravan in order.

"Tom," Vanessa asked that night, while he was washing up, "why'd you stay with me?"

"I couldn't leave you alone after last night," Tom said, his tone implying that there was no debate.

"No, I mean... in general. Why'd you stay with me all this time? Do you feel like you owed me, because I saved you from drowning?" she asked. "Or..." She came up with the worst thing she could think of. "Or do you just feel sorry for me?"

"No, nothing like that." Tom came round to the sofa, sat down next to her, and took her hand. "I mean, I am grateful. But there's something else too."

"What?"

It took him so long to answer that Vanessa was afraid she wouldn't like what he had to say.

"I was dumped," finally he said. "Last year. She came down here to stay with me, and then she dumped me."

"Is her name Jade?" Vanessa said, without thinking.

Tom looked at her, surprised. "Where'd you hear that?"

Oh no. Perhaps she'd made a terrible mistake. Perhaps Jade was no one and had nothing to do with Tom at all, and now he was going to know that Vanessa had been obsessing over it like a fool. "Shirley mentioned her name when I first arrived, and you were kind of... angry," she explained, flush creeping over her face. "She used to live here, right?"

"Yeah," Tom said. "But she isn't my ex. My ex's Ruth. She, uh... left me for Jade."

"Oh" was all Vanessa could say. It made so much sense now.

"We've been together since we were 15," Tom said. "Planned our whole life together. Sounds pathetic, but I really thought we would last, you know?"

Vanessa didn't know what to say. "My longest relationship lasted for two months and ended because he went back to France and ghosted me," she confessed. Pierre the putain, she and her friends had called him afterward. But at least that relationship earned her the clout of losing her virginity to a French guy. "So I wouldn't know, really. But it must've been horrible for you."

"They fucked off to Madeira together, and everybody here knew," Tom continued, his brow darkening. "That's why I didn't want to come back this year. I kept thinking about it, did I do something wrong, if only she'd said something, if only I'd asked her..." Vanessa was reminded of what he'd said the day she told him about her family. Don't expect people to read your mind. So this was where it'd come from.

"It kept playing in loops in my head 'til it drove me mad. But then I met you." He turned to her, his eyes tender, and her heart skipped a beat. "You're dealing with this fucking enormous amount of pain, and you're so brave about it..."

If only he'd known. How afraid she was, going to sleep every night not knowing if she was going to wake up, waking up every morning not knowing if it was going to be her last. How she hid behind her jokes and her nonchalant discussion of death.

"And it made me realize how pathetic my problem is." Tom gave her hand a squeeze. "While I'm with you, I don't think about Ruth much, and if I do, it doesn't hurt anymore."

He clearly meant well. And he must've come to trust her a lot, to confide in her like this. But Vanessa was hurt. Although she didn't want him to love her back, she had hoped he would like her as a friend, perhaps even miss her a little after she was gone. But to find out she was only a distraction, a way for him to forget his own heartbreak... It hurt, and she didn't know why.

"So I'm like your personal Total Perspective Vortex?" she said, finding refuge in humor as usual.

Tom was used to that by now. "Another of your references?"

"Well, I can try to relate on a human level, but it's better to do it via media," Vanessa said. Tom rolled his eyes playfully.

"Let me guess, a Doctor Who monster?"

"No, it's from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. You know it?"

"'Course I do!" Tom said, putting on a show of being offended. Then he added, sheepishly, "Only saw the series once, when I was little. Don't remember much except for the green alien guy. Scared the shit out of me."

Vanessa smiled at his honesty. "It's this machine that when you step inside, it'll show you where you are in relation to the whole universe," she explained. "It gets used as a torture device, mostly."

Tom raised his eyebrow. "Did you just compare yourself to a torture device?"

"Maybe."

"Sometimes you can be a bit fucking dark, you know that?" Tom said, shaking his head at her.

"That's me, the queen of gallows humor," Vanessa grinned back, despite her fractured heart. At least she could still make him laugh.

Later that night, as he was carrying her to bed, Vanessa almost asked Tom to stay. It was so tempting in that moment, with his face close to her and her arms around his neck. But before she could open her mouth, Tom said, as if he could read her mind, "I can stay, if you want." He quickly added, "I'll sleep on the sofa. Give me a shout if you need anything."

A voice in Vanessa's mind told her she would only end up hurting herself. Another voice said it wouldn't matter anyway. It was painful to have him close, true, but it was a safe, almost pleasant kind of pain. "You wouldn't mind?"

"'No, 'course not."

"Then yes, please," she said quietly.

Tom tucked her in. "You're not a torture device, Vanessa Curran," he whispered, before dropping a kiss on her forehead.

Oh my god an autistic person who likes Pokémon it's a miracle. Yeah. I started playing Pokémon when I was 3, so 17 years going strong. I originally preferred the toys and cards, but heart gold and soul silver converted me and then I became a mega fan. Tracking releases, learning lore, creating fanart. Mind you I was like 7. There's a deviantart account out there from when I was 6? and yeah that shit Sure Is (you can try and find it I don't really care anymore jfjsjfjg). Anyway!!! Faves are cleffa, whimsicott, blaziken, galvantula, giratina, mimikyu and Registeel. Faves by proxy include lapras, torkoal, lilligant, gengar, rayquaza, mudkip and ledyba. Fave humans are Iono, Lillie (LillieMoon 💖💖💖), Ingo and Emmet, allister, N, Erika and Elesa. Gen 5 is currently my favourite but I have played gen 5 a LOT the past few years and a lot of my faves are gen 5. I attended both the Pokémon center pop up in London in 2018, and EUIC 2024 in London, also for the Pokémon center lmao.

Woo big surprise it/they user enjoys bugs. My favourites are moths, exact favourites being hummingbird hawk moths and Madagascan sunset moths. Also a huge fan of weevils, worms, snails, beetles, bees and butterflies! I hope to have a butterfly collection one day in frames :3

I pretty much tick all the boxes for middle school anxiety huh. Yeah undertale is a beautiful masterpiece and every few years I'll have a mega "aaaaa undertale" phase where I'll just do nothing but play and consume undertale content. I've played the game through at least like 10 times? A few of each ending. I'm still really bad at sans fight.

-Animal Crossing 🐾

I think everyone should have this one. Occasionally I'll just be like "hm being an adult in the real world isn't really what I wanted right now" so I play animal crossing until oops 6 hours passed. I'll then play for about a week before putting it down again. I tend to stick with new horizons, just because it has the best gameplay. Also BUGS heheshhfksjgh. Fave villagers are Lily, Eugene, Beardo, Judy, Merengue, Lolly, Merry and Marina. I also love Flick and Celeste.

KOKIA in flashback - 2005

After a busy year, 2005 is slightly calmer for KOKIA. There is no full album release this year, although she does release two new singles and features in other projects. She has been performing more often over the last couple of years, and that trend definitely continues from now on. It may be in preparation for next year, which will prove to be a big milestone in her career. There are also some events for the movie Origin: Spirits of the past (Giniro no kami no agito ('silver-haired Agito') in Japanese), for which KOKIA provided the opening and ending songs. But we'll see those again next year!

2022: a year in review

i never ended up writing one of these for 2021, so maybe i’ll throw some stuff from there in here, too

a brief summary of 2021--benny, soaring highs and a rock-bottom low, exercise, school, getting reacquainted with the working world and working more than ever before, trying to become more attuned to adulthood, reuniting with old friends, car ownership, and uncertainty

alright, now onto 2022. i would like to write more about 2021, and i wish i had done so earlier like i should have, but, as we all know, life just strikes you sometimes. those memories and experiences, or at least the essences of them, will be there for me to reminisce on and reference. 

rang in the new year at benny’s house, drunk with coworkers and benny’s friends. it was messy, but hey, a new year’s kiss is always something to smile about when you look back on it. 

got boosted

had a visit from my parents. the first time i’d seen them in over 2 years--since i had broken my ankle and gone back to charleston for a few weeks. it was such a perfect week, one that i will forever cherish. they took the train out here, across the country like they’d talked about doing for so long. we went to riverside, to the house my father spent several childhood years in. he hadn’t seen it since then, i don’t think. we went up mt. rubidoux, something he’d always wanted to do. i took them to disneyland, of course, with benny, who they also finally had a chance to meet. we rode the holiday version of it’s a small world, which so fortuitously had a longer stint at the resort than usual because it had opened late because of a flooded mechanics room or something. took them to the top of the world and to urth caffe and the huntington library. i cried when they left. 

had to get tested weekly for covid at work for a while; it was kind of fun to get bumped to take it on the clock. things were looking kinda bad again with covid for a while there, and i got slightly worried that the park would close again. 

had a visit from lauren and david. we all stayed in an airbnb together and i showed them around socal. we went to san diego, disney (of course), la, huntington gardens. benny’s and my first anniversary happened somewhere in there. it was sunny and beautiful and lauren got a tattoo :)

stayed at a cabin in wrightwood for valentine’s day with benny. it was relaxing, sexy, and we even got just enough snow for it to be romantic but not a burden. we played pool, cooked, walked, and shopped around with little to no worries for a few days. on the way back, we went to the mcdonald’s museum in san bernardino.

went to the parks with friends. it’s nice to be able to do that stuff again--sometimes i think about how “normal” our lives have become again in the wake of covid and i realize i forget how easily things can change in our puny little lives

went to a wedding expo with mindy. i enjoyed it, but i think more and more about how i don’t want a wedding celebration. 

disney had a little cast member event for the (then) upcoming toontown renovation before it closed for the next year. it was cute to be a part of that. 

gas prices went up, up, up, and we all felt it

had a little date night with benny at this really cool bar in huntington. i wish we had time (read: i wish i put in more effort to have more time and energy) to do more of that

received melissa and glenn’s wedding announcement. i was nervous to be her maid of honor but so excited

saw so many snails

did our little semiannual vegas trip. it’s always nice to hang with benny’s best friend and see the hoover dam and just have fun. we played twilight zone mini golf, went to a cirque show (thanks to miguel’s roommate), got dutch bros, swam in lake mead. the whole bit. benny and i even got matching temporary tats. 

made the difficult decision to remove my eyebrow piercing. it had migrated a lot and my management team had said a couple things to my leads about the prominence of the plastic retainer. maybe some day i’ll pierce it again. i miss it sometimes, but i knew it was time. it didn’t look good anymore after constantly having to switch out the jewelry. 

had a roommate reunion at disney with rozi, taleeah, and daisy. it was nice. i miss living with them. 

parallel parked my heart out. i can fit almost anywhere. 

helped john krasinski and emily blunt at autopia :)

went to the parks with mindy for her birthday. i’m so grateful to have her in my life, to have someone so different yet similar to me. 

appreciated and loved fred more and more. he deserves the blue nametag more than anyone. 

went to a couple disney cast member softball games. it’s fun to watch your coworkers play.

somewhere in between all this, i interviewed (for the second time) to become a trainer at autopia, and my manager told me yes--i was very wary and jaded when he told me, since he told me no last time without having that clear of a reason. but he congratulated me and i was grateful that he saw potential in me.

had a cute 4am shift. we had to help test the speed of the cars. it was beautiful, and fred bought us breakfast. a national treasure. 

i needed the first two weeks in june off, and management granted me a personal leave. sometimes, i really do appreciate them. 

finally, the day came. i flew back to charleston for the first time since my broke ass ankle to celebrate melissa and glenn. and i took benny along for the ride. we flew in, reunited with my parents, got some finishing touches for the bachelorette party (freaking out in the meantime). the other bridesmaids and i took melissa to brunch, a lil gift exchange, and a sunset cruise piloted (is that the right word?) by her favorite high school teacher. it was nice, lowkey day. and then the rehearsal dinner was the next day and the wedding the next. melissa looked so beautiful (as she always does) and the wedding was perfect. the ceremony took place outside and it started to rain beforehand, so they ended up pushing it back an hour and having a cocktail hour first. everything worked out and the lighting was perfect. i loved seeing melissa and glenn’s first dance and her dance with her parents. and i was so grateful to her to include me in the day. she’s my oldest friend and i love her so much. 

in the couple days after the wedding, i hung with my parents and lauren and david. we did a ghost tour and, most importantly, went to waffle house. 

immediately after, benny and i flew to denver. somehow for the past 2 years, i had been taking classes and completing the requirements for my master’s degree, and i was sure as hell gonna walk in my graduation. we took a night flight and arrived in denver late; we stayed overnight in the airport to save some money. it surprisingly wasn’t too bad, except for waking up at one point to a man on the other side of the bench shaking around. but it was okay. we left in the morning and went to the university of denver campus so i could take a covid test, then got some food from a turkish restaurant nearby while we waited to check in to our airbnb. when the time finally came and we got to our room, i was so happy to not have to lug around my heavy suitcase anymore. we showered and headed downtown to walk around and get some dinner at a place a coworker of ours had recommended. he recommended a lot of stuff since he used to live in the area, but i think that’s the only one we ended up taking.

i also got a phone call that day from our scheduler asking me about scheduling my training to be a trainer, since the days went against my availability. i was nervous to see it on my next schedule, but excited to have it finally happen.

on our walk around, we went to voodoo doughnuts and ordered one each, but the worker gave us double. it’s always an exciting treat to get more than you pay for. 

spent the next day exploring denver. we toured the capitol (and got a beautiful view of the rockies from the balcony of the dome), explored cute shops, and i felt pretty dead at a couple points. i fell asleep on a bench for a minute, but it was all right. we ended at a foresty bar my friend had recommended and played foosball.

the next day, i officially ‘graduated.’ there was cake at the reception before the actual ceremony, and then we sat through 3 hours of names being called before it was finally time for my section. benny is such patient man. i met up with him after it finally ended (he sat in the audience; i sat with the other graduates), and he had gotten me a lei and a teddy bear wearing a cap and gown. we got dinner at an italian place my friend had recommended,

the next day was our last in denver. we explored some more, including checking out a zine library and getting pics in a big tire. we ended the day with takeout in the park along the river next to the huge REI. 

we rented a car and headed to boulder for a couple days. on the way, we stopped at a wildlife refuge and almost got caught in a lightning storm. everything was great until we tried to arrive at our airbnb up a dark, windy road quite late (around 10pm or so, maybe), only to find a dark house. we rang the bell a couple times and eventually, a shirtless man answered and said there was no airbnb here. i would have panicked if we didn’t have a car that we could have slept in. however, we ended up heading back into town and spent $200 on a hotel. we sure as hell stuffed ourselves at the free breakfast the next day and booked a new airbnb for the rest of the time. airbnb was incredibly helpful and refunded us as well as gave us some credit for the next airbnb. it was an ordeal, but it was okay.

we didn’t let that mishap affect us too much. we had things to do. after we got everything situated, we headed up to estes park to take the aerial tram as well as visit the stanley. it was a beautiful day, in the end. we even took that long road in rocky mountain national park that goes all the way to the top to see the sunset and the snow on the ground. and when we arrived at our new airbnb, everything was just as described, and they even had 2 dogs that almost made me become a dog person--they were fluffy, well-groomed, and quiet. 

we went back into the national park the next day for a horseback ride and some hiking. i got very sniffly after the ride (i guess i’m a bit allergic to horses) and napped for a bit in the car. we did a beautiful and uncrowded hike to one of the alpine lakes. 

the next day was our flight home, but we had the morning still. we said goodbye to the dogs and went to red rocks before going to the airport. our flight ended up getting delayed, so i asked for meal vouchers. again, we stuffed ourselves. 

went back to work. a few days later was benny’s birthday. at the time, my friend rozi was working at this company that’s sort of a blend of airbnb and a hotel, and she majorly hooked it up and got us a 3-night stay at this beautiful property in laguna for free. i surprised benny, although i had to train people at work during a couple of the days. that place was low-key and luxurious. 

got signed off as a trainer, although i sucked at time management at first. but we all do.

the day i had my star tours refresh class, i did practically nothing all day at work. it was glorious

i was so tan in the summer. i’m sure i’ll get there again this summer (while still lathering on sunscreen, of course)

a few days before my birthday, benny got covid. i spent the days around it getting free food; on my birthday, i took a solo trip to the san diego area and laid on the beach. i was a bit lonely, but i’m also in love with spending time with myself. i’ve always known how introverted and independent i am, but i’ve really realized over the past year that i need to spend significant amounts of time in my life by myself. 

got retrained at nemo a little while after benny did. they had a photo session for us while we were still cycling before the ride officially reopened, and we got really cute pictures that i’ll always treasure. once it reopened, though, we all quickly realized that if you had nemo knowledge, you were stuck at nemo. i was mad that my fellow trainers were getting training shifts and i was stuck. 

put up shelves in my bedroom lmao 

went to natalie’s baby shower. i was scared but also so happy for her. she was ready. and the shower was beautiful

had a much-needed day with rozi--we got our cars washed (for free, of course), had coffee and acai at our old place, and ended up at disneyland. it had been too long. 

got a tour of walt’s apartment

became full-time soon after i turned 26. thank god--i now needed health insurance.

saw shakey graves with benny--i miss the time in my life where i was obsessed with him and live music. i think i’ve said this before, but i’ve kind of outgrown concerts. it was a time in my life i’ll always treasure, though. it makes me miss college and especially dc--taking the metro to the 9:30 club and the anthem.

started my first solo training set

benny and i took a cruise! it a short 4-night, 3-day cruise, and it was perfect. we stuffed our fucking faces, went swimming at the beach in catalina, took a taxi in mexico and got free alcohol, and explored the ship. i know cruises are so awful for the environment (the irony of graduating just about 2 months prior with a master’s in environmental policy and management, i know), but goddamn, they’re so much fun and honestly quite cheap if you do it right. the morning of debarkation, though, i got a text (once we regained service) from my mom asking me to call her. i figured i would do it after we got off the ship, but then she ended up calling me (she had actually sent the message the previous evening) during breakfast to tell me my grandmother had died. i was so so grateful that i’d had the opportunity to see her one last time back in june when benny and i went to charleston for melissa’s wedding. otherwise, i probably wouldn’t have seen her since 2019 when my ankle was broken. i couldn’t even imagine what my father was feeling. he had found her gasping for air after he brought dinner to her apartment for her. she didn’t make it through the night. 

the next day, went right back into finishing my first solo training set. my stomach hurt, i guess from the food and the news. one of my trainees, a transfer from custodial, confided in me that she wanted to stop training and go back to custodial. we talked to management and made that happen for her. it felt nice to be able to support her during all of it.

a killer heat wave made work laughably awful--but that’s climate change for ya, i guess

went to the dentist for the first time in about 3 years. they removed my ‘old-school’ metal retainers (which, admittedly, the top one had broken) and got me set up for new plastic ones to wear overnight. no cavities! 

went to the walt disney studios in burbank and ripley’s believe it or not on hollywood blvd, which my parents had gotten me tickets for for my birthday. i love doing stuff like that, even if it’s touristy. 

benny and i went to shaqtoberfest. it was actually a lot of fun LMAO

funeral arrangements were sort of up in the air for a while. it ended up happening in october, although her death was in late august. i went back to charleston for it. my father’s resilience floors me. i look up to him so much. my mother and i went to my parents’ safety deposit box to pick out jewelry to wear to the funeral. i wore my grandmother’s brooch and ring. it was a sad occasion, but it was nice to be reunited with some family i hadn’t seen since before covid. i miss my family and especially my parents. i realized i would like to make an effort to visit them more frequently. i love spending time with them as adults. 

after my return, benny and i did some halloweeny stuff. i don’t like the holiday that much, but i love going to all the neighborhood festivals and block parties and events. 

finally used my flight credit from when rozi, britt, and i were supposed to visit blake in tennessee back in 2020. i went to austin, my first time in texas. mindy’s parents live outside of austin, and she actually flew there a day after me--she had to pick up her mom’s wedding dress, and it was great timing. i stayed in an airbnb for a night and explored the city (and the college campus--i got free tacos and really missed the campus experience) on my own, and then met up with her and her family the next day. they graciously let me stay there for a few days. her family is so relaxed, and i appreciated how easy it was to be with them. i would like to return to austin by myself or with benny sometime, though. 

took a ‘cast preview’ holiday tour of disneyland. we got soaked in the rain, but still had so much fun. i love the holiday season, and maybe one day i’ll stop letting myself be so consumed by work around that time and actually be able to enjoy everything.

learned the monorail, something i had been trying to do for close to a year. 

surprised benny with a trip up to the bay. i don’t know why--i had just been wanting to take a weekend trip since like april to visit pinnacles national park. i told him to make sure to request the days off, and when the time came, we left right after work. we drove up the 5 and finally, around 9:30 or 10pm, we pulled into the campground. he’d had a hunch this was what i was surprising him with. we slept in the car and freezed our asses off. we did a hike (featuring a couple caves!) the next day and went to an airbnb in san jose. we explored muir woods (i finally saw a banana slug!), went over the golden gate, of course, and tried to get dinner in the city--but i couldn’t find parking and the hills of sf overwhelmed me while driving, so we ended up just leaving. but we did go to the winchester mystery house and santa cruz, where we saw bunches of seals (sea lions? i don’t know). on the way home, we took highway 1 and passed monterey, big sur, and miles of coastal beauty. 

did another every-once-in-a-while vegas weekend trip to see the holiday decorations at the bellagio and visit his friend. i decided i don’t like his friend’s roommate lmao, but we still had a good time. we even got a hike in with some snow. 

saw beautiful holiday lights with benny’s mom and sister. every once in a while, i can dig some family time. 

stayed busy with work. between disney and target during the holiday season, i go weeks without a day off. but it’s all right. i do it to myself. and i love my coworkers. 

the leads and trainers got a blanket from our management team, which was actually so fucking nice 

i interviewed to be a lead--my manager asked me if i had been talking to the cores and then why i wanted to be a lead. then he stopped the interview and told me he’d already previously decided on me, that this ‘interview’ was essentially a formality. i was surprised and, i have to admit, felt really proud. he said to keep it a secret, though, so i did, only telling benny and my favorite lead. 

in the light rain on new year’s eve, benny and i went to the ronald reagan presidential library. what a cool place--yeah, reagan sucks, but it’s still a beautiful museum. and his entire air force one is in there--what an experience to get to walk through it. i love learning about all that stuff. in the evening, benny had a small party--it was still raining, so there wasn’t much of a turnout. it wasn’t the best night, especially since it’s my favorite holiday. but there’s always the next one. 

had some trips to knotts. for a while, i didn’t think i would want to renew my annual pass, but it’s just so cheap that it’s worth it even if you only go a dozen times a year. 

continued to work at target every now and again. they do be giving us free food, i’ll give em that. maybe i’ll quit before the end of 2023. we’ll see. 

drove so much. i love my prius and am so grateful for its reliability. even though traffic sucks, it’s nice to get to spend that time with myself. i still take the bus sometimes, though.

started actively saving money. i still owe student loans, but it seems to be forever on pause, so i just pay a bit here and there. i opened a high-yield savings account and really try to contribute to it often. 

was sort of sad a lot of the time. it’s just hard to be happy with your life when you’re in an hourly position and so many of your peers have ‘career’ jobs and seem so well-established--but i know that everyone has different paths and that i will be okay. but everyone gets in their own head. i also have to admit that i really hate that benny still lives with his family and had such a different upbringing than me. i hate admitting it, but it’s the truth. it sometimes makes it so hard to see a future together where we are established (by that, i mean with steady jobs and a place to ourselves), when we just don’t have good foundations to build on yet, despite being in our mid-20s. it challenges me and my thinking, but i’m also grateful for it. i don’t want to always be comfortable in life--but goddamn is it difficult sometimes. i feel that the relationship is so juvenile in terms of our stage in life. we will get there, though. and benny is miles ahead of me in so many facets of emotional intelligence. 

loved lana del rey, i have to admit

song of the year: “head full of doubt/road full of promise,” the avett brothers. it makes my heart heavy with a load of both fear and perseverance--‘decide what to be and go be it’ is such a scary, yet beautiful phrase. the entire song takes me aback with how much i can relate it to my own struggles (or whatever). 

2022 really saw the country come out of the pandemic, if you can even separate the times in that way. i find myself getting more removed from current events, and i hate myself for it. i don’t feel as aware as i used to be during college. i just go through the days at work, try to stay healthy, and spend time with friends and benny. i miss how i used to keep up with the world. maybe someday, i’ll start again. for now, i just try to be all right with my own life. i suppose you have to be okay with yourself, primarily, right? after all, it’s your own thoughts and body that you are with the most. it may be selfish, but it’s unavoidable. i would like to be happy with my own life, and i think i will eventually. i’m getting there. and the days continue to pass lazily, yet quickly. “i know pain is as natural as the rain; i just thought it didn’t rain in california.”

Yesterday was absolutely amazing. We left pretty early in the day, but just late enough that we avoided the worst of Oklahoma City's morning rush traffic to get to the Oddities & Curiosities Expo. It was even fairly easy to find parking- though we did have to park a bit aways, around the block, at a different (paid) parking garage unassociated with that expo center. It still wasn't too far of a walk, though, all things considered.

There were so many vendors inside, it was ridiculous; I'm used to working smaller conventions and expos like Tokyo in Tulsa, or Underground Monster Carnival when I was with the Witch Hunter. I think this is the largest one I've been to? I didn't feel overly crowded, however- though there were a couple booths and areas that were poorly set up, which created unnecessary bottlenecks. I also had to save my old Covenmate a few times when it got too crowded in areas. But overall I did surprisingly well ... I handled it a lot better than I did the Bluegrass Festival back in September.

To be fair, though, that was a whole week of hyperstimulation and we were camped right next to a stage that played music damned near 24 / 7. So I think anything would've been better than that no matter how much fun I actually had.

We got to watch Cydeshow Cy perform, which was really neat; I've seen a few sideshow performances- one of which always did Underground Monster Carnival, whom I was friends with for a bit. Sword Swallowing's pretty common in them. But he did a couple tricks I'd never seen before, and his stage presence and jokes were pretty great. It made it a unique performance that I really enjoyed.

I was originally only going to take $100 with me to the Expo, but we wound up overpaying on rent this month thinking we owed more back pay that we actually did. So my Husband suggested I take the extra $100 with me as well. Which meant I came home with quite a few goodies:

⭲ A gorgeous pair of Femur Earrings with Copper Tape detailing, plus two bundles of Incense ('Garden of Eden' and 'Altar') from the Black.Moth booth located out of Tulsa, Oklahoma

⭲ A lovely stick shaped Wooden Spoon with a carved leaf from The Village Witch booth, out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

⭲ A Nazar talisman / amulet to hang up, from a booth whose card I seem to have lost sadly

⭲ A set of wooden Witch's Runes (plus a printed reference guide) from the Prism Moon booth, located on the Missouri side of Kansas City

⭲ Two prints from the Grave Markings booth (the 'Two Headed Snake' + 'Skull Burst' prints); no idea where they're located out of

⭲ And obviously a T-Shirt from the Expo itself

I didn't spend all $200, but I came pretty close to it; I think I left the expo with like $40 left in total; I had plans to come home and immediately snag a two-headed cat necklace that I'd seen at Stephan Webb's booth (Albuquerque, New Mexico)- and I do still want it really bad, along with an amazing snake necklace he had ... But they'll unfortunately have to wait a little longer since this morning I signed up for the Reclaiming Your Slavic Heritage and Magic class collaboration between Sea Grape Apothecary and Vlasta Pilot of Gentle Hearts Unite.

Unlike the Jewish Magic and Healing Arts classes I want to take, I don't know when the class will be offered again. So while I can save for those over time, I should probably jump on this one while I have the chance; same with the Ukrainian Seasonal Magic classes they'll be hosting over the course of the year as well- which I also really want to take but need to save for now, too, because it's $130 for the bundle currently; it looks more like $200+ originally, so I have no idea how long that'll last and the Winter class starts in January. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Anyways: Before we left Oklahoma City, we also stopped by the Eastern European Grocery Store that I found last month through this Tik Tok. It was such a cute little store, and the woman who owns it seemed really nice (and very confused about who filmed the Tik Tok, ha). I spent another near $100 easily picking out a few safer things to try since I couldn't get the visual translation app to work and most everything was packaged without dual translation.

Today I'm not in nearly as much pan as I thought I'd be. But I've definitely drowned myself in a pound of Pine Oil and Tylenol Arthritis Strength 🤣😭 My legs are killing me the worst. But I didn't push flair like I expected myself to! So progress, huzzah!
