The Curse of Thranduil’s Family (aka being emotionally compromised/stunted when it comes to themselves)
Oropher: Claudryad, i love you deeper than the ocean, further than the stars can reach. I am so happy to have been able to spend the past 300 years having a family and two adorable children with you. Happy 300th anniversary, love!
Cloudryad (thranduil and miriel’s mom) who did not realize that, despite kissing, living with, and raising two kids together (which she gave birth to), Oropher loved her or that they were married: ??????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finwe: Miriel, from the first moment i met you, i have held affection for you, and as i grew, that affection grew into love. I have traveled the seas to find a safe space for us to live in order to be worthy of your love. Please, may i have the honor of marrying you?
Miriel, completely oblivious to the years of devotion finwe had for her, thinking he was just being nice: ?????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gil-galad, finrod, and every other elf that thranduil’s (read user name) been with (most notably the ones he had kids with): thranduil, i know you are not one for relationships, and i know that you will always put your people first, but please, accept my love. Even if you do not, know that it will always be with you.
Thranduil, unable to differentiate between friendship and romantic interest: ????? What-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elladan and elrohir: Legolas, we’ve been interested in you from the day we met and you slew a spider nest to save us. It has been millennia since then and, now that sauron is gone, we wish to court you properly.
Legolas, who thought all the times the twins were making moves on him/flirting with him were just them being friendly: *blue screen of death* wha-?!? SINCE WHEN-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bonus:
Oropher, reacting to his descendants’ obliviousness to love: oh my god, oF ALL THE THINGS TO INHERIT FROM CLOUDRYAD-

Oropher: Where the hell did we find this fuckin' kid, man?
Elrond: My mom threw herself off a cliff because she thought that my 'adoptive' fathers were after the rock she loved more than us and then you kinda just picked me up
Elrond: I remember that very vividly.
Gil-Galad: *Mildly horrified laughter*

The sun trickled in slowly your eyes clenched shut at the light and the cold air which found it's way in gave your spine chills you groaned in discomfort and confusion, you forced your eyes to open and you turned your head to see Gil no longer had you in his embrace and he was infact not even in the bed, but he had not left the room for meetings which was odd, he normally couldn't wait for days like these with lazy mornings when he could hold you until you woke and you were not on one of the many patrols you had.
Your relationship to the King was a secret only his Herald even had a glimmer of an idea neither of you knew what would happen if the kingdom found out their king was sleeping with a guard who came from one of the poorest families in the kingdom, it was rare for you to even be in the castle so you both didn't get these days often as you normally stayed in your family Talan, Gil had offered to help pay expensive but you said that was to suspicious if he started to help fund your family.
you turned to lay on your back, Gil looked towards you "Morning, Meleth nin I hope you slept well" Gil-Galad said
"As well as can be for sleeping in the Kings own bed against the bed of hay on old crates" You replied you certianly like these days the plush bed was a nice break from the harsh beds you were use to sleeping on
"Well that could change, if only you allowed me to pay your family expenses" Gil said
"Then you would have to do that with every under privileged guard you have so it wouldn't be suspicious and given how Elrond complains I doubt you have the funds" you said
"where did all this wise education come from, anyway we need to get ready, I have installed a new Silvan tradition into our kingdom called trick or treating, they got it from men, you go around knocking on peoples doors saying trick or treat and they give you a sweet treat" Gil-Galad said
"And the King is going to do this around his Kingdom" you questioned raising an eyebrow
"Yes what is wrong with it, I was planning we take your younger siblings who are still elflings around and write it off as I needed to talk to you" Gil said
"As much as I love you so very dearly but professionally we have never talked in person I get your Orders through Commander Erestor, off the record we met in a tavern of men and you were quite drunk from there history of you falling on your face in love with me" You said Gil groaned
"At this point I do not care what my Kingdom thinks, I am clearly so drunken in love with you i just don't care so why not" Gil said
"Gil I hate to have you like this but I prefer it like this behind closed doors and away from prying eyes, if anything you won't hear the whispers and no one would dare say anything in front of you but in front of me it's a different story I hear them and my family would be like oh you had the king at your disposal why didn't you use it to make our lives better" You said
"I- their are just so many factors that i just don't want to deal with if you suddenly say fuck it, I am courting Y/n and now that's public information" You said, you hadn't registered Gil now sat on the bed with your back resting against his chest, he slowly stroked your hair as you ranted about it.
"If you don't want to it's fine by me" Gil-Galad said
"No, I don't want to make you feel like you can't make decisions in this relationship, i also don't want people to think i use you, i also don't want to use you I spent my entire life working for everything i have and that will all crumble once this comes out they will immediately start to think I will use you for everything I will do in the future" You said
"You let me do so much, you give me so much free space, your advice and council and ideas always help to better the kingdom I just want to give you the credit you deserve because I certainly don't deserve you, the only benefits it would give me are Elleth's would stop flirting with me as much although whenever your around it does go down significantly as well what do you do I have to learn your trick" Gil said
"I just Glare at them until they feel it and then look at me and are like maybe not and leave" You said
"Ah yes you scare people away with a glare, here we see Y/n in it's natural habitat calm and relaxed as normal around it's mate, but if it feels threatened or someone flirts with their mate, the creature will glare them down until the other backs down and away" Gil-Galad doing a weird voice
"Where you trying to be Fingolfin talking about an animal, because that was so terrible it was decent" you said before he kissed you
"Maybe Maybe not you will never know" Gil said your trick and treating was full of you tricking others that you and Gil where not a thing and Gil-Galad was just your best friend dressed up as the King as his outfit, you still got some 'candy' as Silvan's call it Thranduil and Oropher even showed up to complain about how bad it was and that next time just go to the greenwood at this time
"You two are sure your not together" Thranduil asked for the 1,000th time it seemed like
"Please, Thranduil even if that guard is really poor, Gil-Galad can't pull someone like that" Oropher said
"It's more likely that you think" you muttered under your breath

Sleeping Beauty | Chapter 1
Read on AO3 [x]
Pairing: Thranduil/Fem Reader Summary: A Sleeping Beauty inspired tale with Thranduil the Elvenking, and a female elf living in Mirkwood under the care of Radagast, who is actually the 'lost' daughter of the late High King Gil-Galad. Note: This is x reader but I have given ‘you’ a name. Also I needed Radagast for this story but I think technically she’d have been born before he even arrived but let’s just ignore that. If you’d like to be tagged in future chapters let me know. Translations: lothíriel (flower-garlanded maiden) anarórë (sunrise) vanwa (lost) aranel (princess) melui (lovely)
Tumblr media
“Lothíriel!” Radagast cried out the nickname he had called you since you were but a babe in his arms, standing at the door of his little cottage deep in the forest of Mirkwood. His fingers curled around his wooden staff as he looked this way and that, brows furrowed with just the mildest hint of frustration. He was rather used to this song and dance by now. You would seemingly go missing from right under his large nose, sneaking off through the trees to mingle with the wildlife and sing to the flowers. You were a daughter of the forest, sure enough, and there was seemingly nothing that Radagast could do to keep you in check. Not that he would ever wish to dampen your spirit or dim your light, but it was his job to keep you safe and sound, after all. Keep you... hidden.
A great many years had passed since the days when this task had been appointed to him. Since that fateful day of your birth in Lindon when the Enchantress had dared show her face, laying ruin to all that could have been for you. Then the darker days that followed still. The Last Alliance. Your father, High King Gil-Galad, being slain by Sauron himself, alongside King Oropher. Dark days, indeed.
You knew nothing of any of this and that was how Radagast intended to keep it. For now. You were i vanwa aranel, as the tales told, the lost princess... and you needed to remain that way for at least another thousand years or so yet. When the full danger of the Enchantress was no longer a danger to you.
“Anarórë!” Radagast called again, using the name that you had been given just before being smuggled from Lindon under the cover of darkness. Your name was the only thing your father had been able to give you and he had gifted you the name that his beloved Queen had longed to bestow upon you - naming you after her most favourite time of day - before she was killed by the evil Enchantress that was to blame for your being out here and not in the halls of a palace as was your birthright.
“Ooh!” Radagast shook his head, turning to the bird on his shoulder with a worried expression as he heaved a sigh. He was always prone to concern, especially when you were not within his line of eyesight. “Now where has she gotten to!”
Tumblr media
You were rather far away from the cottage where you had grown up, and from your uncle Radagast, whom you loved with your entire being but who could at times, to be quite frank, drive you rather mad. He made such a big deal of keeping you safe but some days it could feel like you were suffocating. Like treading water and never being able to move forwards. Some days it seemed that he would have enchanted the cottage to keep you inside at all times if he could. Still, you knew that he simply loved you and wished to keep you from harm.
The Greenwood was beginning to change, even you could feel that. There were pockets of thick, suffocating darkness and you could have sworn that once you saw a spider. Not just any spider but the largest spider you had ever seen in your whole life. It was said that the Elvenking was preparing to lead his people further north across the forest river due to this growing shadow.
Despite being an elf yourself, you had never met any of the wood elves that lived under the Elvenking’s rule. In truth, you did not even know the King’s name. You had watched a few of them in secret but you had never dared approach them. Radagast had always explicitly told you never to speak to strangers and something about the look in his eyes made you realise that he had some genuine reason and you followed that rule rather explicitly.
Still, you did not understand why, for how could you? How could you know that evil could take the fairest of forms to trick you into its clutches? How could you know that such evils were indeed looking for you? Actively seeking you out all over this world and had been since your birth? Radagast kept your history from you to keep you safe. As far as anybody need know, you were naught but a simple elf-maid dwelling beneath the trees of the Greenwood.
Still, it could be lonely, and you often imagined yourself outing your own presence and being welcomed into the fray of others of your kind. You adored your uncle, you truly did, and you loved your life in these woods with the wizard - but some days only conversing and interacting with him and the squirrels could become quite tiresome in a sense.
“Hey!” You laughed, lifting your gaze as a little robin gently tugged on strands of your hair from where it hovered in the air beside your head. Your thoughts melted away as you turned your focus to the little creature, suddenly realising that it was not alone. A group of familiar little animals were lined up on a nearby tree branch, looking down at you rather expectantly.
“There you are!” You chuckled, moving closer and reaching out to run your fingers through some of their fur and feathers. “I was beginning to think that you had all decided to abandon me this day!”
The animals tittered and shifted, little sounds coming from some of them as they shook their heads in dismay, eager to let you know that they would never! This little group of beasts made up some of your closest friends in this wood and a lot of days you would meet them in the clearing and pass your afternoon together.
“Oh, I am only teasing.” You laughed brightly, moving over to sit upon a fallen log, gazing up at the sky.
One of the birds began chirping and you turned to look at them, shaking your head a little as they told you Radagast was looking for you. “Well, I am not ready to go back yet.” You replied. “I have barely been out of the house in the last few days.” Another little chatter from the bird came, telling you he was worried there were strangers in the woods, and you shook your head. “He needn’t bother. Even when there is, I do not approach them. Does he not trust me? Sometimes he treats me as thought I am still a child!”
A soft silence fell upon the clearing, all your little friends looking sad as they contemplated your words, your loneliness. Even they seemed to know that even though you had them, and even though you had Radagast, perhaps it wasn’t always enough.
“Come on now!” You chuckled, brightening a little. “Let us not dwell on all of that. I will go back soon, I promise. He will not start to truly panic for another while yet.” You knew him well enough to know that you had some time to spare before he came charging through the trees with his trusty rabbit sled. “Come, keep me company while I pick some berries. Tonight I am going to make some more cakes!”
Tumblr media
A distance away through the trees, a large brown elk was moving at a gentle trot. Astride him sat a lone rider, shoulders straight and guard up just slightly. His long white hair was cascading down his shoulders, free of any elaborate adornments, and as he rode he looked about him, studying the forest.
King Thranduil was travelling alone, something that he did not always do anymore, but his trusty swords were at his side and he knew that, if necessary, his elk could outrun any dangers that they may come upon. If he did not get them first. There was a shadow falling somewhere, he could sense it, but it was still faint and with any luck it would stay that way.
Thranduil turned his attention to the path ahead of him as he moved through the forest, aware that he would have to turn back soon and return to his realm. There was a lot to do, many preparations to make, however he had been rather needing a little bit of peace and quiet. He could defend himself well enough and it had been some time since he had been able to be truly alone. He had a heavy weight on his shoulders and he had since his father, Oropher, had fallen to Sauron, leaving him to rule. Thus the Prince had become the King overnight and, while Thranduil had often had an urge to flee and hide, it was not a whim that he would give into.
As his elk moved through the trees, Thranduil suddenly became aware of a sound filtering through all the other woodland noises. It wasn’t exactly close by and it appeared to be coming from somewhere to his right, which was not the direction he needed to go, but he found himself pulled towards it somehow.
It was somebody singing, he realised, and he normally would have simply smiled and left them to it but it was such a beautfiful melody, a voice the likes of which he was not sure he had ever heard before in all his years - and Thranduil had heard a lot of singing in his lifetime.
“Melui...” He murmured to himself, lost in the beautiful tune for a few moments before he stirred again and urged his elk to the right, struck by the sudden desire to find whoever could produce such a sweet sound.
“Come on, my friend... this way." He directed to his elk as he gently tugged the reins to redirect the beast, heading off in the direction of the singing, not caring if it was perhaps a little out of his way as his curiosity got the better of him.
His elk snorted, disgruntled at going off track, though it reminded the animal a little of the prince of old and it easily gave in, shaking its large head as it trundled off through the trees in the direction its master commanded.

Being sent by your father to seduce Gil-Galad and then falling for him would involve...
Gli-Galad x reader.
*****
👑 For a few years Gil-Galad has tried to establish an alliance with the Greenwood, with the creation of diplomatic, trade and military relations. His efforts have mainly fallen on deaf ears, since King Oropher seems perfectly content with his kingdom's isolation.
👑 Gil-Galad has almost lost hope, when unexpectedly, out of the blue, he receives a letter from Oropher announcing that he will send and emissary to Lindon to discuss the forging of a new alliance.
👑 The emissary is you, the King's younger child and only daughter. Gil-Galad has never met you -he actually had forgotten Oropher had other children besides crown prince Thranduil- but he is determined to build new relations between your kingdoms, whoever his interlocutor is.
👑 He therefore welcomes you with all honors and assigns you a personal maid and an elegant set of rooms in the palace. You soon make a good impression on the Elves of Lindon, most of whom have never met an Elf from the Greenwood before, and make new friends at court, first of all Elrond, who you quickly take a liking to.
👑 The King himself, at first only focused on his diplomatic projects, finds himself appreciating your presence and your company. Strong-willed and quick-witted, able to control your emotions and at the same time to fight for what you believe in, you are exactly the type of person he approves of, even more because unlike most Silvan Elves -which you are by half, thanks to your mother- and your own father, you don't openly mistrust other Elven kins but are friendly and respectful, as a good guest should.
👑 Almost every day you take a walk in the palace's gardens, as you did at home. Coincidentally, that is the same place Gil-Galad frequents when he needs to reflect on some important matter or to escape after a whole day spent in his study; because of this you often meet, and while you make clear you don't want to disturb him and you don't need to be entertained all the time, you both discover an appreciation for each other's company, and you often walk together, talking about everything and nothing or simply enjoying the peace. Twice you go riding together, and a few times the King requests the pleasure of your company for a private dinner.
👑 A firm friendship soon develops between you... or rather it would, if it weren't for a single problem...
👑 The alliance talks; they are going nowhere.
👑 Most of the time you are a perfectly pleasant and reasonable person, but as soon as you sit in front of him and his advisers to discuss the creation of stable diplomatic relations between your kingdoms, a military pact or even just a simple trade agreement that would benefit both Lindon and the Greenwood, it is like a new person takes your place, a person who enjoys making the King's life as hard as she can.
👑 Every proposal he makes, you refuse, either immediately or changing your mind later, wasting his efforts; you act like a spoiled brat, demanding the most absurd things or rejecting perfectly reasonable and favorable terms, and often you don't even attend the meetings that have been organized at the time and date you decided. You write to your father to ask for his opinion about every little thing, even though you, as an ambassador, have the power to make decisions in his name, which means that days, even weeks, are wasted waiting for a response that is often long in coming.
👑 You have been in Lindon for months, and no significant step forward has been made towards the alliance the King had hoped would be already fully implemented by now; instead, relations between Lindon and the Greenwood are as distant as ever - even more, perhaps, since some of his advisers have started losing hope and abandoning the whole project.
👑 It is frustrating; disappointing; and most of all, disconcerting. More than once, he has gotten the impression that all your objections and reconsiderations are not due to uncertainty or the desire to reflect on any single quibble, which would be normal, or at least understandable for an ambassador, but to the deliberate desire to create havoc and throw him and his advisers into despair. You have come to Lindon expressely to build the alliance, but he could swear you are working against it, and against him. But why? It is a very serious matter, and while he likes to think he is able to take a joke, he cannot believe Oropher sent you to him with the command to make his life as hard as you can; a less reasonable King in his place would have thrown you out already, and an ulterior worsening of the relations between Lindon and the Greenwood could even lead to war. You are an ambassador, and a princess; how can you not realize the danger you are putting your people in, and the benefits you could instead reap if you were only a little more accomodating?
👑 Gil-Galad feels as if in those months he has hosted two different maiden, with the same visage and completely different personalities. How can you be such a pleasant person, and at the same time the worst diplomatic interlocutor? How is it possible that he enjoys your company so much, and you clearly enjoy his, and still you are unable to agree on anything when the future of your kingdoms is at stake? If you had shown yourself to be unintelligent, or not interested in the security and the well-being of your people, he could simply order you to leave Lindon and request another ambassador to be sent in your place. In point of fact, the opposite is true: you are extremely smart and insightful, and your love for the Greenwood and its subjects is evident. But then why? Why are you making fun of him?
👑 And, even more disconcerting, why can't he hate you, or even just get upset, because of it? Why cannot he even listen to the advisers who ask him to send you away since your presence in Lindon offers no benefit? Sometimes, at the end of another fruitless meeting, he feels about to take you by the shoulders and shake you until you finally accept to work with, and not against, him; but the simple thought of seeing you leave Lindon is unbearable, even if he had to put up with your behaviour for another century.
👑 Forever, maybe.
👑 And then, one day, it is your absence that flusters the court, not something you have said or done. "The princess has disappeared." Elrond reports in the afternoon, more worried than he wishes to look "We have no idea where she has gone; I sent the guards looking for her, but in vain. What should we do?"
👑 Gil-Galad is immediately concerned. He knows you can look after yourself, even more because you are a trained warrior and at this point you can orient yourself around the palace, but he knows the area is not free of danger. The safety of an ambassador is responsability of the sovereign who hosts them, and he doesn't even want to think how your father would react if you were hurt, but for once, the relations with the Greenwood, even the danger of a war, have lost any significance.
👑 What if something terrible has happened to you? What if you are hurt, and unable to ask for help? What if, and he shivers at the thought, someone assaulted you and...? No; it is not possible, he cannot believe it...
👑 "Did she say there was a specific place she wanted to go to?" Elrond asks; Gil-Galad looks at him. "Why should I know?" "Forgive me, my lord, but it is evident to everyone that you and the princess have become particularly... intimate, since she has arrived..."
👑 Intimate, yes, Gil-Galad reflects; it is true that a special relationship has developed between the two of you, even though he cannot know your heart and your mind as he desperately wants. But there will be time to reflect about why that inability causes him so much pain; now he needs to find you, and make sure you are all right. Elrond tells him that you must have gone for a ride, since your mare is not in the stables, but they have no way to know where you have gone.
👑 He knows, perhaps. There are many trails to ride on in the territory surrounding the palace, but the King's mind goes to a specific place, a small glade surrounded by evergreen trees at the end of a rarely trodden path and because of this one of his favourite, next to a waterfall above a small lake he often went swimming in as a youth. That glade is for him a private place, where to forget for an hour his duties and responsabilities, but he did bring you there, the first person he chose to share that special place with.
👑 Why did he do that? He suspects he knows, in his heart, but there will be a better time to reflect on his feelings. He tells Elrond -who is looking at him in that particular manner, as if he could read in his heart and mind without effort- to keep looking for you, has a servant saddle his horse, and leaves, reaching the glade at full gallop.
👑 The rumble of the waterfall is deafening under the cloudy sky. He finds your mare quietly grazing, but his heart skips a beat, or four, when he sees you sprawled on the grass, completely still. You have fainted, he realizes as he kneels next to you, his heart full of anguish, and a wound on your left temple is bleeding. "Princess, can you hear me? Please, wake up..."
👑 When your eyes finally open, the relief in him is overwhelming. You groan, and "Gil-Galad?" you ask softly, looking at him; it is the first time he hears you call him by his name, and not his title, and something tiny but powerful happens in his heart, something that makes him shiver "What... oh, Eru..."
👑 You tell him that you had just reached the glade when something, maybe a snake or another small animal, had spooked your horse, who rearing up had unseated you, and you had fallen hitting your head against a rock. Gil-Galad is even more worried than ten minutes ago, but you assure him that you are fine, except for a heavy headache. "What are you doing here?" you then ask curiously, and for some reason he feels himself blushing - for the first time in a thousand years.
👑 "Well, you didn't tell anyone where you had gone, and you had gone missing for some time, we got worried..." "So worried you decided to come yourself, hir nin? You had no guards or servants to delegate the task to?" you insist, and as he sits next to you he admits he had to come personally, both because the glade is a private place he doesn't want his people snooping around in... and because he couldn't wait to learn you were all right, he had to see with his own eyes.
👑 "I am all right; and I am sorry I made you worry. I wanted to ride, and you were busy, and this place is so beautiful and peaceful... But I should have left word about my destination." you confess. Gil-Galad does not intend to scold you; and in his heart, he wonders what makes him happier, the fact that you love the glade as much as he does, or that you wished him to accompany you. "I am just glad you are not hurt." he confesses, as he moves on the grass and his hand touches yours, and you simply, but warmly, smile in return.
👑 You should return immediately to the palace, since everyone is still worried and looking for you, but neither you nor Gil-Galad speak as you both enjoy the quiet of the glade, and the secret pleasure of each other's company. You look at his handsome face, the long black hair sprawling on his back and shoulders, the dark eyes you have so often seen in your dreams ever since the two of you met, and suddenly you find it impossible to keep your secret for a moment more.
👑 "I need to talk to you; I know my behaviour has been... disconcerting, ever since I arrived in Lindon, and that I did my best to impede the creation of a new alliance, instead of facilitate it. I am sorry, you deserved better; but I could not disobey my father."
👑 You tell him that you had tried to convince your father to build an alliance with Lindon for decades, while he is content with the Greenwood's isolation... until an idea occurred to him. Since your brother is his heir, one thing he had long looked for was a suitable husband for you, even though the King was uninterested in forging relations with other kingdoms and you had refused to be courted by the children of the most powerful noble family of the Greenwood. Oropher knew Gil-Galad was unmarried... and so he ordered you to move to Lindon and make the King fall in love with you.
👑 "Aren't you worthy of becoming the Queen of the second most powerful kingdom of Elvendom? Aren't you a princess, whose worthy spouse can only be either a King or the heir of one? Even if a diplomatic and military alliance with Lindon were developed, I could not trust Gil-Galad to keep his side of the bargain... not unless there were someone in his court who could influence him, and who would always have the Greenwood's best interests at heart."
👑 In short, your father wanted you to pretend to agree to the alliance, but to actually make things as difficult as you could, to delay any progress until Gil-Galad, exasperated and disillusioned, and by now madly in love with you, would accept Oropher's offer to take you as his bride in exchange for his help.
👑 You look at him, wordlessly, waiting for his answer, but Gil-Galad doesn't have one to give. "You are saying that... your father wanted you to seduce me?" he asks, flabbergasted; he cannot say he knows your father very well, but he cannot believe Oropher had tried to deceive him... and that he never realized.
👑 "He did." you admit, then adding quickly: "But as I am sure you can confirm, I have never done anything to develop what there is between us beyond a simple friendship. There is nothing I wouldn't do for the good of my kingdom and my people, and I do believe an alliance with Lindon would be beneficial; but I would never sell my body, or play with another person's feelings, whatever the reason. You are a good King, and for months you have endured my discourtesy with more grace and patience than I deserved. Since we met, I have grown to... to care for you, as well as to respect and trust you; you deserve the truth, and I don't want to lie to you anymore. I am sorry for the way I had to act, but it was the only way my father would ever accept an alliance between our kingdoms. I tried to silence my conscience telling myself it was my duty as a princess to obey the King and protect the interests of my people, but nothing of it would matter if I had to deceive you."
👑 Gil-Galad has listened to you attentively, finally understanding the reason for your disconcerting behaviour and then some. He knows he should be angry for your father's deception -and indignant: Kings are often forced to make difficult decisions and to forget honor and personal interest for the greater good, but did Oropher really want to increase his influence through his daughter's bed and body?! How could he still look you in the eyes after even just suggesting it?- and maybe hurt for the way you made a fool of him for months, but when he looks at you, remorseful but relieved you don't have to pretend anymore, he discovers he cannot be angry with you. As a King, he can respect your desire to help and protect your people through an alliance with Lindon, and it is true that you never did anything to seduce him -maybe, if you had... no, he better not even think about that- so, actually, what could he even blame you for? The desire to be a good princess?
👑 "I am not angry with you; I could never." he gently says in the end "And I thank you for being honest with me, it must not have been easy, since it is your father and your King, we are talking about. Let us forget the whole matter; it has been unpleasant for us both, and it is no use to talk about it again."
👑 You smile, humbled and full of gratitude for those words, just as your heart breaks because whatever could have happened between the two of you, regardless of your father's desires, now has vanished forever. You have seen the way the King looks at you, the genuine admiration in his dark eyes as he sees you walking in the gardens or take his hand to dismount from your horse, and against your better judgement, you had hoped that one day you could tell him the truth... that those feelings are reciprocated, and you would be proud, and so happy, to be his Queen, or even just to know that you belong to each other, in the secret of your hearts.
👑 Of course this could never be; not now that he knows the truth, not now that, knowing what you feel, his mind could even just be crossed by the suspicion that you are motivated not by your heart, but by other reasons. He welcomed you in his kingdom with all honors and for months treated you way better than you deserved, and even through your feelings are true, and deep, and sincere, you would never dare... no; the whole matter has lasted way longer than it should have, and the best thing you can do now is to free Gil-Galad, and Lindon, of your presence, to save him the memory of the humiliation he must feel. You are going to lose him forever...
👑 "Are you ready to go back? It is getting late, and Elrond must have sent every soldier in the kingdom after you." "Yes, of course. We better go."
👑 He helps you to get on the saddle, as usual, and together you return to the palace, where your friends are relieved to see you. Elrond looks at you and then at Gil-Galad, as if he could read what has happened on your faces, but the King quickly retires to his study, feeling fragile and unable to keep up appearances like never before.
👑 Later Gil-Galad is informed that you have begged to be excused from the evening banquet, citing tiredness and a terrible headache as the reasons; you are avoiding him, he thinks, out of embarassment after what you have confessed at the glade or because, an unpleasant voice whispers in his ear, because now that you don't have to pretend to... like him anymore, you can't even bear to be in his presence. He sadly retires early to his quarters, and is trying to pass the time with a scroll he has already read ten times when a soft knocking at the door informs him he has a visitor.
👑 He knows who it is even before reaching the door. He opens, finding himself face to face with you, wearing a shawl above your shift; you don't speak, you don't even smile, but in your eyes Gil-Galad understands everything he needs to, everything he had hoped and then some, everything you would never dare to say in words.
👑 Your shawl falls to the floor. Gil-Galad takes your hand and draws you inside; you move towards each other as soon as the door has closed behind you, your arms that circle the King's ample shoulders, his hands that close around your face, and finally your lips press against his in a kiss that leaves both of you breathless.
👑 His huge bed, with a canopy and many soft pillows and where no one has slept -or done anything else- by his side for so long, is in a corner of the room. He carries you there in his arms, your legs around his waist and your hands exploring the expanse of his back, and he couldn't stop kissing you if his own life depended on it; you murmur his name as he delicately lays you down on the mattress, your eyes so full of emotions you thought only existed in songs, and you are so beautiful he cannot stop looking at you, knowing that at least for this short, precious night, you are his and he is yours, beyond duty, beyond orders or titles, beyond what you would dare asking or offering. Your clothes lay forgotten in a heap on the floor. Gil-Galad joins you on the bed, naked as the day he was born, and avid and devoted you take him in your arms as your mouth finds his in a new kiss.
👑 You don't talk much, not beyond moans and growls and other sounds that are simply heavenly in Gil-Galad's mouth, using those few hours to give and take everything you can to and from each other; you barely sleep, but in the end, panting and happy, you rest with your cheek against his shoulder and his arms around your waist, feeling the adoring look the King is giving you and the sweet and possessive way his hand caresses your hips, and you pray this night never ends.
👑 Gil-Galad wakes up with your fingers playing with his hair; it is such a pleasant sensation, sensual and comforting and intimate, he could stay there the whole day, forgetting his duties and responsabilities. He turns on his side and he finds you laying on the bed, your naked body between the silk sheets, breathtaking and perfect; he smiles, and you smile back, but there is sadness in your eyes, and the King has only a moment to protect himself against the sadness you unleash with a simple sentence: "I am returning home."
👑 He doesn't ask whether you are sure of it, and doesn't try to change your mind, even though he suspects he could; everything there was to say and to know between the two of you, you said last night, and he knows that as a princess your duty is towards your kingdom and your people, and your father, even though he doesn't deserve your devotion. He doesn't deserve you. Stay, stay here with me, and I will make you happy for the rest of your days, stay and pledge yourself to me, there is nothing I wish more, I am yours already and I swear I will be worthy of this gift. Forget the alliance, forget everything else, we can be happy together, I know, because I love you, and I know that you love me...
👑 The words press against his lips, but Gil-Galad keeps silent as you silenty dress yourself; he kisses you once more, a chaste kiss on your forehead, and he is almost sure he can see tears in your eyes. "I am sorry." you whisper, and he wonders what you are apologizing for exactly, for the deception or the heartbreak you know you are inflicting on him. Either way, he doesn't resent you; how could he, when he has gifted you his whole heart?
👑 You share a very formal farewell in front of the court, both saddened and frustrated by the distance you now have to keep. "I will do my outmost to have my father agree to your terms." you promise, and you hate yourself, because there is so much more you would like to say "I promise." "I know you will, princess. I wish you a safe journey."
👑 He looks at you, immobile in front of the gate of the castle, until you disappear along the road at the head of your retinue, hoping you will turn to look at him at least once; you don't, because you have ordered yourself not to.
*****
👑 A whole year passes, a year during which Gil-Galad receives no news about you. Two ambassadors come to Lindon on behalf of King Oropher, agreeing to the alliance and developing new trade, diplomatic and military relations with the Greenwood. Gil-Galad should be satisfied, even happy, and he is; but he still misses you so much, every day and every night, as if he has lost a part of himself, and he has: leaving, you have taken his heart with you, and he knows he will think about you until the end of his days.
👑 He could inquire after you with the ambassadors of your father's court, or ask Elrond and the other friends you have made in Lindon if they have received a letter from you, but he orders himself not to: the King is proud, even too proud for his our good, and since it is you who left, you must be the one to come back, if you so wish. So he waits, hoping against all hope to see you again and ordering himself not to write begging you to return because light and joy have disappeared from his life ever since you left.
👑 Eventually, he does hear about you, from the ambassadors who, exactly thirteen months after your departure, return to Lindon as guests and delegates of Oropher for an important festival; the Princess would have been a more appropriate representative, but apparently you decided not to come. The King is walking along a corridor when inadvertently he hears the two Silvan Elves talking, discussing a recent festival that took place at Oropher's court -more opulent and elaborate than the one they have come to attend, in their opinion- to celebrate... the birth of the King's first grandchild.
👑 The ambassadors don't realize the King is eavesdropping, and it's only because Gil-Galad is quick enough to press his hand against his mouth to suffocate a scream; he remains in the corridor after the other Elves have left, his heart beating so hard it hurts for the explosion of anguish and joy that has filled it.
👑 Oropher, your father, has a grandchild, which means... which must mean... an Elven pregnancy lasts twelve months, and it has been thirteen months since you left, since you have laid together...
👑 You have had a child - with him, he is sure of it, even though you could have laid with someone else in the few weeks after your return -maybe with an intended you had had before coming to Lindon and who was happy to welcome you back home; the simple thought makes him seethe with anger- but he knows the truth: you have a child together... you have made him a father.
👑 A child. it is something he never gave much thought about, since he never thought he would desire to marry someone, but now he cannot wait to see them. Did you have a son, or a daughter? Do they look more like you, or him? Do they have his eyes? Or your smile? In any case, his heart is already full of hope and love, and he is sure you have given birth to the most beautiful child in Elvendom; he cannot wait to see them, to hold them, to have their tiny body close to his own...
👑 Thank Eru he doesn't have anything important to do for a few hours; the King locks himself in his study, and reflects, struggling with emotions that threaten to suffocate him.
👑 Why -WHY!?- haven't you told him? You had never talked about children, but didn't you think he deserved and had the right to know? Did you fear that knowing the truth, he would try and take the baby and raise them in Lindon, excluding you from their life? Or that he would use the child to force you in a relationship or even marriage? It is humiliating -do you really think that he would stoop so low? And hurt you, after what you shared?- but maybe, he reflects, you simply didn't want him to marry you because he had to, to mantain your good name.
👑 It wouldn't have been an imposition; far from it, he thinks as he immagines how it would be, the three of you as a family, a Queen and a little prince. It would be the best of future, the happiest life he could imagine, with you by his side and the fruit of your love to to raise and protect. If only you would agree, if only you would accept his hand in marriage and let him love and cherish you as you deserve, as he wants...
👑 He needs to see you; to talk to you, as soon as possible. Pride and torment forgotten, he will confess his feelings and beg you to come back to him; if Eru smiles to him, Lindon will have a Queen and a crown prince before the turn of the season. He orders to have his horse ready, and an escort of the fastest riders; in less than an hour the King is ready to go.
👑 A King travelling to another court unannounced is no small matter, but Gil-Galad confides that Oropher will not make a fuss, given the finally solid alliance between their two kingdoms... and the fact that if everything goes as it should, the King of the Greenwood will soon greet Gil-Galad as a son-in-law, as he had wished a year ago.
👑 The party reaches the castle of the Greenwood at nightfall; servants and courtiers are flabbergasted to see Gil-Galad, but they think he has come to discuss some important matter with the King - which is not wrong, after all. Oropher is not there, though; he has left in the morning for a visit to an Elflord in the kingdom and will return tomorrow. That is well, Gil-Galad thinks, because the two of you will have the time to speak privately; "I wish to speak to the princess." he states in his most regal tone, and he is soon led to the gardens.
👑  When he sees you from afar, sitting on a bench surrounded by willows and pines, the first thing he notices is that you are cradling a baby in your arms, humming softly. He stops, fascinated as if it were the first time he sees you, admiring the beautiful scene of the family he never thought he would have... and for the first time he hesitates, wondering if the happiness he has come to claim only exists in his mind. What if you have forgotten about him? What if the feelings that the two of you shared have withered in your heart, and you didn't tell him about your baby because you wanted to exclude him from your life and theirs? What if you have found someone else, someone you have given your heart to and who you want to raise your child?
👑  Gil-Galad has fought many battles, but he has never been as afraid as he is in that moment, scared to discover he has lost you before being able to fight for you. He remains immobile, wondering what to do, and it is then, not startled by a noise or a movement but having simply perceived his presence, that you lift your eyes from the child peacefully sleeping in your arms, and you see him.
👑 You stand slowly as he approaches -he is here. Why is he here? Has he come for you? But how...?- your heart bursting with emotion, joy and love and heartbreak making you unable to speak. Suddenly, all the reasons you have given yourself to leave Lindon and never come back seem so stupid and petty, and I missed you so much you are about to say, but he anticipates you.
👑  Gil-Galad cannot see clearly the child in your arms, his face covered by your hand, but love and protectiveness fill his heart as he looks at the tiny body wrapped in white cloth. Then he looks at you, even more beautiful than he remembered, and he wishes he could hate you, just a bit, because if you will refuse his proposal, he will have no other reason to live. "Why didn't you tell me?" he asks softly, and he sees confusion fill your eyes.
👑  "W-what?" "Why didn't you tell me about the baby? Didn't you think I had the right to know?" he insists, angry and wounded, and maybe the shock of seeing him when you least expected has made you unable to reason, but you really can't understand why he is so upset. "Well, I... I didn't think you would be interested..."
👑  "Not interested? You really think I wouldn't want to know you have made me a father?" he almost shouts, appalled, and that explains, if not everything, at least enough to make you understand. "You were told I had had a child?" you ask, and "Well... I heard the King had had a grandchild." he slowly answers, suddenly realizing that is not exactly the same thing "And they had to have been conceived in the period you had spent in Lindon, or immediately after you returned. But..."
👑  "I am so sorry, but... Gil-Galad, this is not your child. He is not even mine, actually; he is my nephew. This is Legolas, the son of my brother, Thranduil, and his wife."
👑  For a whole minute, before pain and disappointment can overwhelm it, the main emotion in Gil-Galad's heart is shame. How could he be so stupid? He knows you have a brother, he even met him once or twice, why didn't he think that the King's grandchild could be born through his son, as well as through his daughter? He allowed his emotions to rule him, and he stormed to the Greenwood, so sure he would return home with a bride and an heir, and the only result he obtained is to make a fool of himself...
👑  He cannot even look you in the eyes. "I am... so sorry I bothered you; I shall leave now, I won't disturb you anymore..." "You haven't bothered me; quite the opposite." you quickly answer "Wait..."
👑 You gently lay your nephew in a little cot you have created with a large sturdy basket and a blanket to carry him while you walk, then you take Gil-Galad's hand and you lead him to the bench, where you sit together. "If I really had a child with you, I would have informed you as soon as I were certain; I would never separate a father from his child." you point out, and he admits that he was wrong to doubt you, but "I think... the idea of having a child with you made me so happy I couldn't think clearly. Maybe I only wanted an excuse to come and see you."
👑 It is painful to expose his feelings like that, even with the person who evoked them in his heart, but then he sees you smile, your beautiful eyes full of tears, and that is reward enough. "My beautiful princess... I have missed you so much." he whispers, and he holds your hand in his as he kneels in front of you "I know it has been... difficult between us, that the time wasn't right and that the alliance made things unnecessarily complicated... but my feelings for you are as clear and limpid as the waters of a mountain lake. I never stopped thinking about you, not for a moment ever since you left, and I hope...  I hope you can look beyond your duty as a princess, and accept my hand in marriage. Be my bride, and I promise nothing and no one will ever come between us; marry me, and I will spend the rest of my days making you happy."
👑 It takes you a while to answer, but not because you are unsure how. You look at him, and the feelings you have tried to forget, or at least to relegate in a corner of your heart, where it would hurt less to remember what you shared, make you unable to speak for a while. "I was so ashamed for what I was sent to do." you finally whisper; you still cannot believe he is there in front of you, devout and hopeful and so handsome, with a promise and a request on his lips and the purest love shining in his eyes "I feared... you would never trust me again, and that if I ever told you how I felt, you would think I was still acting on my father's orders, or because I wanted to become Queen..."
👑 "I wouldn't have; and I would not, now. I do want you to become Queen of Lindon... and I hope marrying me is not too much of a sacrifice." he adds with his most serious expression; you laugh, and he smiles "Say yes; please, say yes, and I will never want for anything else."
👑 "Yes!"
👑 You wish you could stay there -alone with him, free to tell him everything you could not a year ago and to show him how much you missed him- forever, but you can't; your nephew needs to be changed, and you need to tell your brother, who rules at court when your father is away, that Gil-Galad has come, before he notices the twenty Lindon guards still waiting in the courtyard. He happily follows you inside, where you entrust Legolas to his nanny and ask another servant to make sure the guards are fed and housed for the night.
👑 You have always been close to your brother, and while you have never told him about the feelings you had developed for Gil-Galad and what had happened between the two of you, he has seen how broken-hearted you were when you returned from Lindon, and had suspected it had something to do with the King. Because of this, he is surprised, but not too much, when you tell him the King of Lindon has onored you with an unexpected visit; Thranduil looks at him, then at you, and wisely decides to stand back and let you take care of everything. Gil-Galad apologizes for visiting unannounced, and your brother tells him he is glad to see him... as your father will be, when he returns from his trip, tomorrow.
👑 That night Gil-Galad has dinner with you, your brother and his wife, who welcome him with open arms seeing how happy he makes you. Later, he follows you to the nursery, and smiles as he sees you bid your baby nephew goodnight. "He is a beautiful baby; and he is lucky to have such an attentive and affectionate aunt."
👑 You confess that you adore your nephew... and that you would like to have children of your own, one day. "I am sorry I... disappointed you." you add as, now standing in the corridor, you enjoy a quiet moment together, your fingers interwined with his, Gil-Galad's forehead lightly touching yours. He simply smiles. "At the moment I could not be sorry or sad even if I tried." he confesses "And we will have children, if Eru wills; maybe we shall beget one this very night."
👑 Those words, uttered with the most serious expression, make you blush furiously; just like he led you in his bedroom that night a year ago, now it is you who, holding his hand, guide Gil-Galad to your quarters, and then to your bed. "I love you." you whisper as you stand in front of him in the half-light filtering through the windows; he moans as he feels your hands caress his chest and back and shoulders, and he cannot wait to marry you and make you his Queen... and he will soon, he promises himself, as soon as your father gives you his permission, and as soon as he has shown you how much he has missed you, and that he wants to spend every night of the rest of his life worshipping you.
👑 "I love you too, my princess... my love... I want you so much... let me touch you, I need to feel your hands on me..."
👑 While your first night together was passionate, the desire between you burning like a fire as you chased your pleasure together, your second is different, equally beautiful but more intimate; you explore each other's body, sharing kisses and promises as you bond yourself in the privacy of your room before you can do it officially in front of families and friends. Gil-Galad is everything you ever wanted and even more, and you make sure he knows as you cling to his shoulders, his beautiful dark hair spread on the sheets as you move above him; he holds your hips, looking at you with awe and love, and he doesn't need words to say that he is yours - body and soul, heart and sword, he will never let you go or be content if you are not by his side.
👑 You sleep peacefully, awaking to the pleasant sensation of Gil-Galad's caresses on your back as he holds you in his arms, your legs interwined and your cheek against his chest, lulled by the beat of his heart. "Good morning, husband." you greet him, because as far as you are concerned you are already married, the way it really matters, and any ceremony or ring exchange is just a formality; he smiles, and he kisses you. "I will speak to your father as soon as he returns." he promises; the way his hands move on your body is a promise for all eternity "I want you to be my Queen as soon as we can."

Hi dear Meg! I'm so glad I found someone who writes for TROP ♡
I truly love elrond, this sweet boi, and really enjoyed your writings for him (: at first I was quite careful since I see lotr!elrond (almost) entirely as a dad and not as a romantic option, mostly because if him, Celebrían and their children but honestly they seemed to have killed off Celeborn so... no Celebrían? XD
Anyways, it may surprise you but I wanted to ask, if you're writing for Gil-Gaddy too? Uhhh, I already loved him in lotr and god forbid me from telling anyone about my tiny crush on Mark Ferguson haha XD
If yed, I'd love to ask for a Gil-Galad x fem!oc 💕 I'm quite the sucker for opposite looking couples, so oc with ash blonde/silver hair? And size difference? Hod I love tall men haha
Maybe she's the daughter of oropher, visiting Lindon.
And... yeah... I wouldn't be mad (absolutely not) if you include some smut? Intense and passionate is my favorite if someone asks hehe
Much love to you ♡
Maddie

The Queen's Father

You opened your eyes, humming contently as lithe fingers combed through your ashen hair.
“My love, we must meet the others for breakfast.” Gil-galad’s steady voice, raspy from sleep, filled your ear as he pressed a kiss to your cheek.
“You are the High-King, you can miss a breakfast.” You groaned, throwing an arm over your eyes.
He chuckled, the sound deep and rich, vibrating in your bones. “Yes, but your father will be there, and I fear he still looks upon me with disfavor.”
You removed your arm and sat up, fixing your husband with an annoyed look. “My father is a fool if he is still upset that we married, his daughter is queen, what more could he want?”
You weren’t annoyed with Gil-galad, never with him, but with your father, who was still upset you hadn’t married the son of his closest friend.
Gil-galad kissed your temple. “I do not know, but we shall face his ire together.”
You sighed and slipped from your bed, dressing quickly and smiling at your husband in the mirror. He always towered over you, it made you feel safe and protected.
You took his hand and pressed it to your lips after he placed your circlet upon your head. “I will never let you face him alone.”
You strode hand in hand down to breakfast, where your father was waiting, along with a few other elflords and ladies. You greeted your father, then took your seat next to your husband.
As everyone began eating, you started to relax. Perhaps your father would not make a scene this morning.
“Gil-galad, I must ask you, why does my daughter look so exhausted. Are you running her ragged because you cannot perform your duties without the aid of others?”
You all but slammed down your drink and leveled a glare at your father.
Your husband was much calmer. “Perhaps y/n seems so tired because she works so diligently in her own duties as queen.” He took a sip of his drink. “Though I do not see this exhaustion, she looks as radiant as the day we married.”
“Thank you, dear husband.” You said, smiling at him, and intertwining your fingers with his. “Gil-galad is right, Ada, I have tired myself out in service of our people.”
Your father grumbled but backed off, and Gil-galad gave you a soft smile.
“How is Ambe? I noticed she did not make the trip with you.”
“Your ambe is well, she was preoccupied with the birth of your niece.”
“A girl, how lovely.” You said, a bright smile on your face. You would have to send your brother’s family a gift of congratulations soon.
“We shall send a gift, for the child and her mother, soon.” Your husband declared, reading your mind.
Your father’s expression softened. “That would be most welcomed.”
Breakfast was cleared, and you promised your father you would walk with him.
“I will return as soon as I see him to his quarters.” You promised your husband, going up on your toes to kiss him.
He chuckled and bent down, so you could reach him, and connected your lips.
Kissing Gil-galad was always a breathtaking experience, his skilled lips and pleasant taste always brought heat to your face and caused your heart to race. He pressed a soft kiss to the corner of your lip before righting your circlet and releasing you to your father.

Tumblr media
It was a hectic day. You ran from one place to the next. Being the High Kings sort of manager you had a lot to do. Especially the days when his herold was absent. You carried a lot on your shoulders at court. It turned out you were handling it well and the High King appeared to be pleased with the work you managed to get done. Downside was that he had high expectations. He saw your negotiating with other elves, high ranked ones at that and he saw you had a hand for these political matters. You should be proud how far you‘ve come in such a short time but at times like these you would rather just have a simple life with a simple job. Your excellent work had you now running around like a wild chicken because the elven Lord Oropher was yours to take care of.
The elf was a menace. He had much to complain and very little praise for anything. If you had to decide who the most unlikeable elf was you would not have to think long. He stood only 5 feet away from you with his long blonde hair, blowing in the wind. He stood tall next to his kin, head held high and a piercing gaze. „Y/N is it? I want to retreat to my quarters now. Go ahead and tell them to arrange everything!“ You were not sure what exactly he meant so you stood for a moment contemplating what exactly he was talking about. „What are you waiting for? Off you go!“ he commanded. With that you decided to just listen to him and walk straight to the closest maiden. „Excuse me. Lord Oropher sends me to let you know he wants everything  ‚arranged‘ in his quarters?“ you told her with a questioning undertone hinting at your confusion. „Lord Oropher oh my? He is here already? I will take care of it right now. Thank you for letting me know.“ With that she was off leaving you still clueless what he meant by „arranged“.
Deciding not to dwell on this arrogant elf and his stupid desires for one more minute you went to the first place that came to mind when you thought about a peaceful moment, the big tree you admired so much. After spending the whole day as Orophers personal slave you had had enough. You needed a break, fresh air and just really some peace.
You made your way up the hill. The sun was about to set and it‘s rays set the land in a golden light. Standing in front of the tree you saw far over the city. The pinkish and orange sky took your breath away. You closed your eyes and you felt your tense shoulders relax. This is more than you initially thought you would get by coming up here but this view was absolutely everything to get your spirits back up. You stood there for a long time just breathing, basking in the warmth of the last rays of light the sun was casting over the lands when you felt a presence next to you. You kept your eyes closed and prepared for someone to interrupt your peaceful moment. A few moments passed and you could not hear anything. Whoever stood next to you granted you a few more seconds of peace. Out of curiosity you decided to open your eyes and see who came to stand next to you.
„Oh. High King“ you blurted. „I uh excuse me your grace I was not aware someone was here.“ you lied trying to smooth out your clothes to make you more presentable. You figured it would be the easiest way out of this situation. „Do not worry Y/N I am just here to do the same as you.“ he said turning his head from looking at you to the far lands ahead. „What I am doing?“ you questioned. Honestly you had no idea what exactly you were doing here. You were just standing around. „You are running away from Oropher.“ he smirked. „I understand how dramatic he can be. I am stressed out as well.“ Another pause. None of you spoke and it was a comfortable silence until Gil-Galad decided to let you in on a tiny piece of information about him no one really knew. „In fact when I am stressed out I come here. It is a peaceful place and usually the only place in the city that can be found free of anyone.“ You turned to face him trying to apologize „Oh I am so sorry I did not know I will not come here if you wish this place to be..“ you babbled but his deep baritone interrupted you „No I am not saying you are unwelcome Y/N.“ he stared back into your eyes. The sun kissed your skin and made it glow in beautiful golden hues. His favorite colour.
„What I am trying to say is that I am grateful you are here. Having to listen to Oropher all day and doing his biddings is exhausting and by handling him you are taking away a lot of that weight from my shoulders.“ You held his gaze. Something about his dark orbs in the light did wonders and you felt drawn to him. „I uh thank you.“ you stammered. His eyes bored into yours and he towered over you, but not in a threatening way. No in a friendly, warm way.
This was the first time you felt relaxed in his presence. Maybe it was the time you spent together, working for him, that you finally got used to it. Maybe it was just the utterly exhausting Oropher who in comparison was way worse than the High King could ever be. Or his soft deep words of gratitude that made your heart swell in your chest. His eyes dipped down to your lips for a moment and your eyes did the same. His lips look so soft and kissable right now. You wondered what they would feel like... STOP!!
You shook your head, feeling your ears heat up from embarrassment. You must have hit your head or something since you‘ve been training with Glorfindel. These inappropriate thoughts had been plaguing your mind recently and it only seemed to happen more often the more time you spent with the High-King.
Little did you know the High King stared at you for a moment longer than he should have. He saw your expression change quickly and it brought a smile to his lips. He saw your ears turning a slight shade of pink like the sky above and he enjoyed seeing you so flustered.
Before he could think of anything to say to make you blush more you straightened up beside him. „Very well I am going to retire to my quarters now. I am sure Lord Oropher will have demands tomorrow morning so I better not get to bed too late. Have a good evening, your grace.“ With that you turned on your heels and headed back down to your room, leaving the High King pondering.
In the morning you woke up tired and sleepy. You had trouble sleeping. The events from yesterday still clouded your mind and you could hardly get Gil-Galad out of your mind. Even though you were alone in your room, he was present in the back of your head. Everything about him seemed to be so perfect. He was not just nice to look at no. What actually surprised you was, that he was actually a good person in just an attractive body. At first you thought he was as arrogant as any elven King would be. But after a while he showed you more facettes of his true character. He was a King and a ruler to most. But there were many other parts of him hidden behind the facade of the High-King. He proved to be kind and warmhearted. You spent most of the night wondering about the many other sides the great elven King might have hidden behind the mask he wore at all times.
Oropher was not helping, as he had requested you to accompany him on his morning ride through the woods. After preparing everything for him you had a few minutes of peace riding alongside the blonde elf. All you had to do now was listen to his endless bickering about humans. He disagreed on many things humans did. Especially the way they treated nature and the very place they call home. Destroying more than creating or nurturing their homeland. After a few minutes he paused and just admired the view.
„I have always preferred the woods. They are so calm and eternal. This is where I feel most peaceful. Don‘t you agree Y/N?“ Oropher said, waiting for your response. „I do like the woods as well, yes. They are full of life and mysterious. You never know what to expect behind the next tree.“ you agreed. As much as you wanted to rebel against Orophers opinions you could not disagree because he was simply stating the truth. Humans were awful beings. Sometimes worse than the dwarves could ever be. It was terrifying to think about all the bad things happening at the very moment, somewhere in the world at the hands of humans. And the woods you did not even have to act like you liked them. How could anyone not like the trees that stood in the very place for thousands of years. The rest of the ride was relatively relaxed and not too exhausting. Oropher seemed to be a better company in the presence of trees you thought.
When you came back to the city you heard Oropher asking for a servant to bring him tea to his quarters and prepare a bath. He talked about not going to the festivities without a proper bath and you nearly facepalmed. You had forgotten about the day. It was the High-Kings birthday. They would hold a ceremony this evening in the High Kings name with music, food and dances. You quickly made your way over to Oropher to ask if he needed anything else. He waved you off, already heading to his quarters.
Nearly tripping over your own feet you speed-walked to your own to get everything sorted before heading to Elrond and the other elves to make sure everything has been prepared and is ready for the celebration held in about four hours from now on. You found Elrond after a while walking around the many elves running around carrying boxes of wine or fireworks, tables and seats had already been arranged and a dancefloor had formed in between them. „Y/N there you are.“ Elrond came strutting over to you and stood beside you. „How has your day been? I hope Oropher behaved?“ he raised one eyebrow at you. You laughed „Ha, you mean to ask if he ever behaved, right?“. The ellon beside you laughed out loud at that. „Just what I‘ve been thinking,“ he mused. Elrond and you helped wherever a set of hands was needed and slowly the gardens turned into a mesmerizing scenery.
Everyone kept working on decorations and preparations for the evening and after about two hours the splace had changed completely. The party was set to be in the already pretty gardens and beautiful lanterns lit every corner in a warm and welcoming light. Pretty flowers adorned the wooden tables  creating a magical ambience. Soft tunes could be heard from the musicians that had started to play and you headed back to your quarters to get dressed for the occasion. In about 30 minutes the celebration was supposed to start and you needed to clean up a bit, before jumping in a wonderful dark green dress.

Eryn Galen Family Tree
Some headcanons on which I based this.
Before leaving Nelyafinwë and Findekano get married secretly due to the death of his grandfather.
Unfortunately, they are forced to separate for a long time before Fingon goes to look for his husband, rescuing him from the clutches of Morgoth and his servant. After a long healing process, the two finally unite their faiths and conceive a son. Ereinion Gil-Galad, whom they must let go to Círdan for his proper protection.
•••
Gil-Galad grows up without knowing much of his origin, however he manages to consolidate as a friend of the Sindar, under the tutelage of Círdan.
Thus, during a visit to Doriarth, Eldarion meets Prince Oropher, the young son of Elmo, and nephew of King Thingol. Who also turns out to be a candidate to be his spouse; to the displeasure of both, since at the beginning they do not tolerate each other at all. However, and after a time in which they put their laziness behind them after their lives were put in danger due to an incident outside Melian's belt, they decide to continue with the courtship between them, concluding that they will go at their own pace with it.
As it turns out, they get married.
Living in a fairly stable and happy marriage, they decide to wait a while before even considering having children. Although they enjoy taking care of their nephew, Celeborn, son of Oropher's brother, Galadhon.
The two enjoy their time together very much, Oropher still works in his uncle's court and Ereinion continues to apprentice with Círdan.
During the eighth year of their marriage, they finally have an only son, Thranduil.
Gondolin falls, and with it Ereinion is summoned to the island of Balar where he is told of his origin, who his parents are and the death of his uncle Turgon, for which he was now to be named High King.
Shortly after the third murder of relatives. Gil-Galad founds the city of Lindon which he rules with the help of Oropher. At the same time they see Thranduil grow up more. Being that when the latter reaches adolescence, his ada founds Eryn Galen, Oropher is appointed king by the wood elves and much to his regret he must leave to lead what remains of his family's village, Thranduil stays with Ereinion for seasons, especially because he wishes to continue seeing his cousin, Celeborn, although he also visits his ada.
The last alliance arrives, Gil-Galad has decided to create an army to attack Sauron in an attempt to quell the evil he spreads throughout Middle-earth.
Oropher is captured by the dark lord, his husband and son believe him dead, Thranduil is crowned king in the midst of battle and his Atar guides him as best he can given the current circumstances.
(I know Thingol banned Quenya, but Erenion, Oropher and Thranduil probably spoke it at home).
It is not until the climax of the war that Glorfindel gives his help to Oropher who manages to flee from Sauron because the latter finally came out to give battle to Gil-Galad.
(Fuck the canon, Oropher and Ereinion are alive when it ends.)
•••
Thranduil and Glorfindel met during the last alliance, because of young Elrond.
Thranduil felt a great admiration for the lord of the house of the golden flower, while Glorfindel decided to give himself a chance to fall in love again if he and the prince of Eryn Galen could get out of the war.
Being so, both spoke towards the fourth year of the conflict, confessing their desire towards the culmination of what they are living. Since by tradition the elves do not marry during the war and much less have children. During that time, only once in the fifth year of the last alliance, the two share a single kiss that turns out to be nothing more than a brush of lips. The war ends, thanks to the Valar they can now breathe without fear that this is their last day in the same land.
Glorfindel decides to court Thranduil this under the blessing of Gil-Galad and Oropher.
(Celeborn and Elrond organize the betrothal dinner)
They however, decide to marry with the trees as witnesses before having a larger celebration as expected by the elves. Ten years pass before Prince Legolas is born.
Tumblr media
Version 0.2
Aragorn and Legolas already have a relationship when they join the Fellowship of the Ring. Gandalf knows it and Frodo is very suspicious since despite their many attempts, they do not disguise it as well as they think.
Frodo is aware of the looks they give each other when they think no one sees them.
Boromir has seen them flirting, they use the sindarin but it is clear what is flirting.
Gimli also found them sharing his watch. Aragorn had his head resting on Legolas' lap while Legolas hummed to him and stroked his dark locks, both looking up at the stars.
It is Pippin who in his boredom asks to please tell them how they met, how long they have been together and also asks if those rings they wear themselves mean they are married.
It is Legolas who just resigns himself and tells the story, Sam finds it quite romantic and Gimli just says that Legolas charmed him with his singing, which makes everyone laugh.
Tumblr media
Extra headcanons :
- Fingon is trans.
- Sindar have both gender.
- Glorfindel was very afraid of falling in love after losing Ecthelion, however Thranduil came as a bucket of cold water. He makes amends with his relationship with Ecthelion and decides to follow his feelings.
- Glorfindel is sworn to Elrond being this descendant of Turgon to whom he was sworn before. For which he lives in Imladris, Thranduil understands it because his parents also lived separated in spite of being married because they had their own duties. However, Elrond sends Glorfindel away until Legolas is the equivalent of sixteen human years old. It is then that he is finally allowed to return.
- Legolas has honey-colored hair, a combination of his parents'. His eyes are also warm like Glorfindel's even if the color of them is similar to Thranduil's.
- If Aragorn and Legolas had a daughter she would be named Miriel.

Rambly explanation for this doodle: so when I first drew my Gil-Galad design I made him blonde because he was supposed to be Oropher’s biological kid, but then I came up with the idea of him being an orphan elfling adopted by all the guys who’d been his dad/foster father at some point in Tolkien’s writings, and an orphaned Avari elf at that cuz they’re cool and need more screen time. But then I’d head canoned the Avari to have dark hair so I was like, “well one of them must have married a random Noldor elf or something?” And then late the other night my brain pulled up the memory of this short fic idea someone else had that I tried to find but couldn’t about the secret half-elf kid of Caranthir and Haleth meeting the secret half-elf kid of Aegnor and Andreth and them running away together—and long story short in my own crazed personal headcanon Gil is now the biological child of Caranthir x Haleth’s son and Aegnor x Andreth’s daughter who ran off and joined the Avari cuz his parentage wasn’t crazy enough 😅😓
Edit
Reblogged it with the fic but wanted to go back to the og post to make sure, credit goes to @actuallymiriel for the og idea and @actuallyfeanor for the fic based on it!

Title    : First Meet
Pair     : Thranduil x Elrond Peredhel
Genre : Friendship, romance, male x male, angst
First Meet
"Namaku Thranduil Oropherion. Yah seperti namaku aku anak dari Raja Oropher, Raja Greenwood the Great.
Elros tersenyum riang. "Perkenalkan aku Elros." Mereka berdua berjabat tangan. Elros segera mengingat tujuannya mencari Elrond.
Dia kebingungan.
'Bagaimana jika Elrond membenciku? Bagaimana jika Elrond menjauhiku?
"Kamu melewatkan makan malam. Makanlah!
Thranduil ragu ingin memulai percakapan.

Sleeping Beauty | Chapter 8
Previous Chapters [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7] Read on AO3 [x]
Pairing: Thranduil/Fem. Reader Summary: A Sleeping Beauty inspired tale with Thranduil the Elvenking, and a female elf living in Mirkwood under the care of Radagast, who is actually the ‘lost’ daughter of the late High King Gil-Galad. Taglist: @hufflepuff1700 @jinlizz-dragondrama @firelightinferno @bubbleyukismile @coopsgirl @achromaticerebus @sleepyamygdala   @smalltownbigheart @qmabailor

Much like Radagast assumed, when Thranduil heard the actual details of his encounter with the Enchantress, the Elvenking tipped his head back from where he sat high upon the throne, and laughed aloud.
He laughed for so long, in fact, that Radagast began to wonder if he had perhaps broken the Elvenking.
Not a feat to be accomplished by mere information, of course, and thus Thranduil eventually ceased his laughter and turned his attention back upon the wizard, though the ghost of an amused smile still played upon his lips.
“Oh, Aiwendil.” He shook his head, looking down at the wizard once more. “You have so lifted my spirits.” The smile disappeared altogether next, however, for he knew it could not last. “Yet, I fear you could be about to dampen them once more.”
Radagast shook his head. “I come only to tell you what happened and inquire how you might be planning to deal with her.”
Thranduil regarded Radagast a moment longer before he spoke once more. “We will drive her from the forest. One way or another.” His eyes seemed to have darkened. “She will not stay here.” The king went quiet again then, thoughtful for a long moment, before he opened his mouth once more. “Do you know why she has come?”
Radagast looked up at Thranduil then and did not see the Elvenking. He saw the young prince, son of King Oropher, looking back at him and his heart jumped at the sight.
The wizard wished that he could tell him the whole truth. Oh, how he wished it. But he held firm. The less people that knew, the better. Only he and Gandalf now remained who knew that the princess had survived and this was how they must keep it, especially with the Enchantress so close. Not even Elrond of Rivendell was aware, though not telling him had pained the High King greatly.
“I do not.” He shook his head as he looked up at Thranduil, the image of the prince fading away and leaving the mighty Elvenking in its place once more.
Thranduil gritted his teeth in frustration. He wanted this witch out of his forest and he wanted her out now. “It cannot simply be to bother me over my father’s imagined slights.” He snapped, shaking his head. “I refuse to believe it.”
Radagast thought back over the encounter, recalling the anger she had displayed even now over something that had not even been. Something she imagined she had been deprived of but had not truly been given in the first place.
Thranduil, in the silence, shuddered at the mere thought of her ever even entertaining such a fancy. To be his wife! His queen!
He had known, of course, his father had not shielded it from him. However, he would have thought she would be long over it by now. Though he supposed some grudges went so deep for some they were nearly impossible to remove - like a splinter sitting just beneath the skin, yet somehow irritatingly out of reach.
Still. It unsettled him. Could she truly be here for such a thing? To release her anger, after all this time, at not being Queen of the Woodland Realm?
Thranduil had never taken a Queen.
The thought caused his mind to drift back through time, to the little elleth that his father and Gil-Galad had hoped he would one day, when they were both old enough and hopefully in love, take as his wife. The little baby had been beautiful, he could remember her face clear as day. The brightest little eyes as she had gazed up at him from her cradle. Thranduil remembered peering down into it and making a face. He remembered telling his father it was silly to think he would one day want to wed the elfling! Forgetting that the little one would grow and that they would both live so long that the gap in their years would come to not really matter when it came to affairs of the heart.
He did not care or appreciate, at that time, the true weight such a union would have brought. He was too young, they all were. Even the Enchantress had been young then, he recalled.
Then his mind drifted, seemingly of its own accord, to you. The strange elleth living somewhere in the forest. He still couldn’t figure out where you had come from, where you lived even. Not in one of the settlements, he knew that already, you were always too far from them and you had specified that you lived with your uncle. Just you and he. When he first met you, you had seemed like you had never before even spoken to another. It had not been difficult to figure out that you didn’t spend much time with others.
He frowned suddenly, wondering why he was thinking of you at such a moment? Had he not just been thinking about queens, of all things?
Blinking away the memories and thoughts, Thranduil rose from the throne. “Come, you should rest. Stay the night before you return to your home, I will have a room made up.”
However, before Thranduil could move to do so, Radagast shook his head quite quickly. “No!” He did not mean to sound rude but by the look on the Elvenking’s face, he had been. “It is much appreciated.” He added hastily. “I have to get back tonight.” He did not miss Thranduil’s brows drawing together in slight confusion, however the king graciously inclined his head in agreement.
“Very well. Then I shall see you out.”

Quite a few hours had passed since Radagast’s abrupt disappearance and you were still inside as you had promised, sitting with the same book on your lap and frowning softly at the pages. It was a book of history, one you tended to come back to over the years. One particular section tended to grab your attention quite often, almost pulling you in - The Fall of High King Gil-Galad. For some reason, it made you so very sad. It was always just this... cold ache deep in your bones. You had never told Radagast about it, deciding it was strange you would be so upset about some king you had never even met. He would only tell you how empathetic you were, how sensitive to the tragedies of others, and he would tell you it was an admirable quality. However, you did not wish to hear it. Something about it simply made you uneasy.
With a heavy sigh, you eventually stood and replaced the book on the shelf. The messy stack of books directly next to the shelf that Radagast had decided not to put back in their place made you roll your eyes, both in mild frustration and fondness. You decided you would tidy up later, turning and moving over to the front door.
You would just... look outside. Get some air.
Easing the door open, you peered out into the garden. Well, if you could call it a garden. You stepped outside and tilted your head backwards, gazing up at the shafts of light coming through the trees overhead. In many places, it seemed as though the trees were beginning to twist to cover the very sky above. It hurt your heart to see the Greenwood changing.
Turning your mind away from such thoughts, you wondered where Radagast was. He had been gone a while. You could feel yourself getting quite fidgety. It was hard to stay still... so you turned, closed the door to the little house, and hurried off through the forest.
A familiar bluebird swooped down and tittered by your shoulder, seeming to be telling you off, and you laughed. “Oh, shh! He isn’t here, is he?” You chuckled, moving through the trees as the birds pace slowed, watching after you. “You all worry too much. I’m not going far.”
The little bird did not tell you that they were worried because the Enchantress had been in this very wood not long ago, and had faced down Radagast. They could not, for even the animals knew that this would put you in even more danger. Half of the safety was in the not knowing.
You came upon the clearing again, sighing in relief as you tilted your head back once more. The sky was much more visible here than in Radagast’s little corner and you hoped that it would last. That whatever appeared to be creeping closer would leave this place untouched. It was your own little sanctuary.
How long you sat there, you were not sure, though it was quite obviously growing darker which meant that the night was closing in. You sat thinking of Thranduil, but he did not come this evening, and you found that his absence disappointed you. Sometimes when he came here, the two of you would simply sit in silence, on opposite ends of the clearing. You reading or thinking or picking your berries. He tending his elk or looking to the sky... or at you. You found that he looked at you quite a lot and you did not mind.
Still. He was busy, you were sure. You had gathered that he must be some kind of soldier or guard from the King’s Halls. He hadn’t told you as much, but you could see the warrior in him without him needing to say a word. In the way he stood, the way he carried himself. A far cry from your apprehension over his sudden first appearance, you found that you were now quite charmed by him and you thought of him often.
You would tell Radagast... you would. Soon... some day. You just had to figure out how to tell him without him getting all worked up over your apparent ‘safety’.
As the thought of the wizard entered your mind, you idly wondered if he would be back at the cottage by now, but then suddenly your attention was caught by a sound from through the trees. Fast footsteps storming across the leaf covered ground, heading straight towards you.
