I was just in a conversation about flashbacks for season 3 and decided to share my thoughts and what I'd like to see for flashbacks
(If you can't tell I like Crowley, mb)
First off 1827, I love 1827 flashback with all my heart, and honestly wouldn't be against seeing more of it, But I really want to know what happened to crowley after he was taken to hell, and what was so bad to make him feel the need to ask aziraphale for holy water, and if aziraphale was correct at the time what he would use it for, if crowley really was that far down, or if even then he just wanted it for reassurance.
on the topic of holy water
1941, I feel like 1941 ended off well, I wouldn't complain if we got more (I mean.. It seems like an important year for them) but I don't see the need for it, besides maybe seeing aziraphale do the apology dance. however it would be interesting to see what happened between 1941 and when he plans the heist for holy water again, because compared to how we saw him in 1941, I'm curious why he would be looking for it again. What trouble he may have gotten into between that time. Maybe he was still punished for collaborating with an angel even if there was no proof?
1793 is repeatedly mentioned in the series, though besides seeing aziraphale do the apology dance, and what may have caused them to miss their lunch date after aziraphale was saved in 1793 for Crowley to owe him one in 2008.
1650 was the only year aziraphale mentioned he did the apology dance that we didn't already have a flashback for, and I hope we get to see what exactly they were doing to have aziraphale do the dance, and, assuming this is the first time it was ever done, where it came from.
Crowley's fall. I really want to see the fall and the full reason why it happened because "crowley isn't a reliable narrator for his fall". I really do feel like there was more to it, whether it was Crowley's fault or not. Also want to know more about if aziraphale and crowley had a relationship of any sorts while he was still in heaven, they obviously met when Crowley made the nebula, but we don't really know how much longer Crowley was in heaven after that, or if him and Aziraphale interacted more.
Also would like to see more of Aziraphale's diary entries like with 1827, and maybe some flashbacks of what Crowley and Aziraphale were doing in between their random meetings throughout the years, considering they're currently separated yet again.

My Good Omens headcanon - this part is titled "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THEY DIDN'T KISS IN 1941"
(as always these are nothing but my thoughts and my headcanon)
I would be really, really upset if we eventually discover that either Aziraphale or Crowley have kissed anyone before (including each other), or had a romantic incident in their life before (including with each other) before what we got to see. I can see a lot of people are saying they could have almost kissed in 1941 (like, not just accidentally, but aware of being in love) but I don't like that. The beauty of season 2's plot and flashbacks was allowing us to see their moments of realisation and the culmination of the realisation that they are in love.
Aziraphale realised he loves Crowley in the church in 1941 but couldn't admit it, perhaps not even to himself (you go too fast for me, Crowley). Perhaps he realised then how much he actually liked Crowley after all, without realising it was love. Perhaps he did realise it was love. I don't know. Anyway - That was the moment when knew, deep down, that it was love.
For Crowley it wasn't so hard to admit he liked Aziraphale and Aziraphale's company. But he only realised it was a "love" love in the conversation with Nina when Aziraphale is inviting people to the ball. That was the moment for Crowley.
Then when Crowley voiced it to Aziraphale either Aziraphale knew he love-loved Crowley and panicked thinking "not now, not like this", OR that was the moment in which he realised on the surface what he had already realised deep down in 1941. I'm not sure which.
In either case it's obvious that the kiss changed Aziraphale in the same way that the ox ribs changed him forever. I don't see him in seasons 1 and 2 as someone who has already kissed or almost kissed Crowley in 1941.
It would diminish their growth as characters if suddenly we found out that "hey, all that unquestionable realisation of their feelings and overt manifestations of love that you saw - that was not really the real thing. The real thing happened in 1941 and we just kind of chose to show you a lot of other scenes from the past but not that one, thanks bye".
The scene in 1941 that was shown in s1 was pertinent to what needed to be shown then (Aziraphale doesn't have Agnes Nutter's book but he knows how important that book is, Aziraphale loves his books of prophecy so much that Crowley remembers to save the books while Aziraphale saves their lives) (conveniently the scene ALSO shows us that Aziraphale is good but gullible, Crowley is always there to rescue him, Aziraphale does huge heart eyes, that these two go a long way and know each other very well, etc).
Then we got back to 1941 to develop it further because the plot of season 2 revolves around their relationship and how their trust in each other was built and strengthened. And, of course, s2 also gives a lot of attention to their slow burning romance and their difficulties in communication.
Now... If they ever almost kissed, like, if there is a scene in season 3 set in 1941 showing that they had already realised they loved each other and perhaps even confessed it to each other in 1941... Well, I'd feel cheated if the show chose to only show us such a scene in s3 and not in s2, where it belonged.
I don't think season 3's plot and themes revolve around them realising and confessing their love. That was the plot and the theme of season 2. Season 3 is about the dealing with the consequences of them realising and confessing their love in season 2, and with them dealing with their choices and moral stances about heaven and earth and the second coming. Season 3 will further develop their relationship to NEW places, not go back to "hey they actually already knew they were in love". That's just not interesting anymore, it's been thoroughly tackled in season 2, now let's move FORWARD.
The plot of season 3 (I think) will be (or should be) the corruption of heaven. (and hell, i guess, but then again, what is hell, by definition, if not corruption?). And the second coming. Corruption of heaven and the second coming. Those are the main "plot driving" aspects of s3 (I think).
And concerning Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship the plot in season 3 should be about them coming to terms with all the mess in heaven and hell and all the consequences of the s2 finale that COMPLETELY changed their dynamic: THAT scene closed a chapter forever and marked the beginning of a NEW chapter in their relationship, something they NEVER really dealt with before, and they will have to deal with now, for better or for worse.
That's why it makes a lot of sense to me to dig deeper into Lucifer's rebellion, Crowley's fall etc. S3 should expose the cracks in the system. And there is a huge emotional anchor between that and Crowley's past, so it makes for great storytelling
Of course we are always into more flashbacks of Aziraphale and Crowley through the ages, and there can (and should) be a lot of romantic undertones in them, but I don't want them to "realise" they're in love in new flashbacks. New flashbacks should give us context to their present day challenges (aka s3 challenges and not s2 challenges).

Despite the pain of standing on consecrated ground, Crowley comes to Aziraphale's rescue. (S2) The three Nazis are resurrected as zombies. Aziraphale and Crowley perform their magic trick.
1967, Soho, London - Crowley meets Lance Corporal Shadwell. Crowley attempts to steal holy water from a church; Aziraphale is worried, so he gets Crowley holy water himself.
"Eleven Years Ago" (circa 2008) - Dukes of Hell, Hastur and Ligur, hand over the Antichrist to Crowley, who then delivers the baby to The Chattering Order of St. Beryl. The Antichrist is then misplaced, being sent to live with Deirdre and Arthur Young, while their actual child, Warlock, is sent to live with Thaddeus and Harriet Dowling. Unaware of the mistake, Crowley and Aziraphale agree to attempt preventing Armageddon from behind the scenes by coaching the boy they assume is the Antichrist.
Five Years Later, Six Years Before the End of the World (circa 2013) - Crowley disguises himself as Warlock's nanny, while Aziraphale disguises himself as the Dowlings' gardener.

i'm unwell!!! because in stede's eyes, ned low was right!! ned says "he [ed] only likes you because of your bumbling amateur status" and calls stede blackbeard's "pet" just like izzy did in series 1
so stede steps up as a captain, kills the man who harmed his crew, and suddenly, for once in stede's life, he isn't a joke! the gentleman pirate is taken seriously and welcomed into the pirate community!
and what happens less than 24 hours later? ed calls their night together a mistake, AND LEAVES.
yes, obviously the situation is more nuanced, and these old men are once again struggling to communicate, but i 100% understand why stede went a bit of the rails at the end of episode 7. stede's been so focused on trying to help ed, that he's completely ignored his own ongoing identity crisis and trauma, and after the incident at the academy in series 1, this meltdown was long overdue.

So yesterday I watched all the historical scenes of Crowley and Aziraphale in chronological order and then feverishly came up with a new interpretation of the "you go too fast for me Crowley scene" so here it is:
Ok so now we know from season 2 that the Dirty Donkey pub where Crowley holds his heist-planning meeting is right across the street from Aziraphale's bookshop. This means that when Aziraphale goes to meet Crowley in his car he literally just walks across the street, but it also means that when Crowley offers to drive Aziraphale somewhere he isn't offering to take him home. The previous implication of that interaction was that Crowley was going to drive Aziraphale back to his bookshop, but Crowley knows that the bookshop is only a 30 second walk away so that's obviously not the case. In fact, Crowley doesn't actually ask Aziraphale if he wants to be driven home, what he actually says is "can I drop you anywhere?" and then "I'll give you a lift, anywhere you want to go".
So now we know that Crowley isn't trying to drive Aziraphale home, the conclusion we have to draw is that he's asking him if he wants to go somewhere else with Crowley. This is kind of a covert way of wording things, but Crowley is still testing the waters at this point in their relationship. He pulled this same tactic in 1941 when he said he would give Aziraphale a "lift home" and then ended up taking him somewhere else which led to them spending the entire evening together. "I'll give you a lift" has essentially become code for "let's hang out". This also explains why Crowley looks genuinely disappointed and upset when Aziraphale turns down his offer (and why Aziraphale acts apologetic about it).
But, considering that we know Aziraphale has fallen for Crowley by now AND that they went out together in 1941, why the "you go too fast for me Crowley" line? My explanation is this: in 1941, Crowley nearly got in big trouble with Hell simply for having been seen with Aziraphale, and not only did he not seem that bothered by it but he is now asking Aziraphale if he wants to go out again even though they've both been directly confronted with the risk this poses for him. I think it scares Aziraphale that Crowley is willing to risk so much just to spend time with him - he's not ready to confront the truth of what that means yet, and he's also not yet at the point where he'd be willing to take the same risk with Heaven. As usual, Crowley is a step ahead of him in terms of his commitment to their relationship, hence "you go too fast for me". Keep in mind that Aziraphale was very caught up in the moment in 1941 and has had a lot of time to reflect since then about the potential consequences of a relationship with Crowley, and he's just not ready yet even if he definitely wants it.
As a side note, I think it makes a lot of sense that this is the point when Aziraphale agrees to give Crowley the holy water (and why Crowley is more determinedly seeking it in the first place), because now both he and Crowley more fully understand the the danger Crowley will be in if Hell finds out what the two of them have been up to.

My Good Omens season 3 headcanon, part 1
(This is strictly headcanon, not meant to guess how the series will play out nor trying to say that I believe this is how it should play out.)
PART 1 - Lucifer's rebellion in Heaven and Crowley's fall
Important themes covered: Crowley's character arc (why he sautered vaguely downwards, his trauma, his distrust of both heaven and hell, his past relationship with the metatron, his loneliness, how it all played a role in shaping the demon we came to know and why it ended up bringing him close to Aziraphale). Also: things Aziraphale doesn't understand because he's been blissfully ignorant and/or because Crowley never wanted to tell him. Also: "the system is broken". Also: the roots of today's problems in good omens started way before earth and the rebellion and Crowley's fall seem central to the resolution of the story.
* We'll have flashbacks about Crowley's "sautering downwards", or, as I like to see it, being unfairly turned into a demon: we get to see the heaven's pernicious red flags, maybe Lucifer and the guys (in my head Lucifer is absolutely 100% Gwendolyn Christie, as of right now I couldn't possibly imagine another Lucifer). (I love Gwendolyn Christie and I love her portrayal of Lucifer in the Sandman series) (I love the Sandman series) (and Coraline) (God bless Neil Gaiman)
* We get to see Angel Crowley still very naive discovering little by little the cracks in the system. And we finally get to see what were the goddam questions that he asked and were apparently so important as to get him into so much trouble. And of course we'll get to see who Crowley really was in heaven (not necessarily a famous angel). (perhaps we never get to know his angel name but at least something about his rank is revealed, because it was a Chekov's gun in s2)
* in my head, Lucifer is posing as well intentioned back then, before the Fall. It's like Crowley says in s1, Lucifer and the guys were complaining about labour rights and stuff like that. And Crowley just wanted to ask questions. So it's reasonable to assume that the movement led by Lucifer was composed of evil angels posing as good and of truly good angels who got mixed in it (hanged out with the wrong people). Then I guess they either:
--- get judged by heaven THEN rebel/ fight the angels, and finally Fall and go to helll, or
--- rebel/fight the angels, THEN they get judged by heaven and Fall and go to hell.
* if Crowley didn't know the metatron by then, he meets the metatron at his own trial. The metatron sentences hill to Fall and go to hell. That's why he couldn't possibly forget the metatron. And that's why Crowley says the last time he saw the metatron, the metatron was a big floating head. That's how the metatron appears at trials as we've seen in s02e06.
* we get to see bits of Crowley's trial. Aziraphale wants to be a witness in his defence, but heaven is not taking witnesses (or heaven is just being cruel in another way). Tldr the trials are a kafkan joke, nobody ever got a fair trial, and that's why Crowley fell in the first place. But Aziraphale never got to be in the room to see the trial or to even know what Crowley was accused of. Later, Aziraphale is crying, alone, devastated by Crowley's fall, as Gabriel sees him and comes to talk to him. Gabriel puts on his fake smile and reassures Aziraphale vividly that Crowley was evil, otherwise he wouldn't have fallen. After all, heaven are the good guys, and wouldn't have condemned an innocent angel. Gabriel also insists that, no matter what happens, Aziraphale must remember that Crowley is no longer the angel that he knew - Crowley was now a demon and shouldn't be trusted. Aziraphale is hesitant at first but ends up believing Gabriel.
* in my headcanon, it's only after getting to hell that Crowley starts to realise how evil Lucifer is. Also, the head positions of hell are taken over by the main evil fallen angels, and the benign ones are mistreated. Crowley realises that Hell's head office is hypocritical and never cared for the things they claimed to have motivated the rebellion in the first place. Crowley doesn't want to be a pawn in lucifer's evil plans but he knows he must protect himself. Crowley becomes cynical (feeling betrayed by both heaven and hell, completely alone and not knowing who to trust) and puts on the persona of the demon we came to know. Crowley then takes advantage of the fact that was very high ranking in heaven to demand to be sent to Earth duty once earth is created, and he's granted it. Thus the story begins with Crawly in the garden of Eden.
* there is something I'm not completely set on in my headcanon: did Crowley lose his memories as an angel? There is a scene in season 2 (when he talks to Gabriel) that can lead to 2 different interpretations: either he was just understanding what Gabriel said about being an empty house and looking at where the furniture wasn't, or Crowley was talking of his own experience having had his own memory wiped out but choosing to make an effort to remember everything, even if it hurt. I haven't decided yet what I believe. Perhaps even Muriel has also been demoted and lost their memory (I find it a very reasonable theory, actually). And s2 shows us not once but twice that Crowley doesn't remember people from before the rebellion (Furfur and Saraquiel) but it could just mean that Crowley was high ranking to a point he just didn't pay attention to lower ranking angels by then (he didn't even bother to introduce himself to Aziraphale and doesn't seem to pay attention when Aziraphale tells him his name).
* In either case, current day Crowley remembers everything because either he never lost his memory or he managed to force himself to remember everything. Or he remembers most things. I don't know. Anything can happen in this regard I suppose.
* Crowley's motivation to ask for earth duty is to run away from hell. Which means that he's finally relatively safe away from both heaven and hell. He's finally left alone. But then... He's too alone. He meets Aziraphale and they start to bond. In job's story we got to know his moral point of view: he's a demon who goes along with hell as far as he can. And with the back story we get to see why he's like that. But if he gets caught by hell, he'll be destroyed. And in the end he's really becoming a bit of a bastard. He takes pleasure in doing some relatively harmless mischief. And that's how he sautered vaguely downwards after, not before, his Fall.

no listen LISTEN hear me out - what if the 1941 kiss didn't happen at the bookshop. what if it happened in the bit between the zombies leaving and the bookshop. still listening? cool, well picture this - crowley throws down his hat as we see in s2, aziraphale gathers himself and says its all going to be fine - and before he can get a word in crowley's bursting up onto his feet, pacing and ranting, clutching at his hair about how it's "too late, always too late", aziraphale in a fluster trying to calm him down so he can tell him that he's safe it's all okay and then crowley just whirls around grabs aziraphale and snogs the living daylights out of him?? aziraphale is shocked and before he can even start to return it crowley pulls away, "fuck, shit, im sorry... but i just... needed to do that before- well, before." and then he grabs his hat, "c'mon angel, let's get you home", and then boom back at the bookshop where crowley's blatantly Not Talking About It, especially after aziraphale manages to eventually reveal that he saved crowley and all is, in fact, okay. and this tender-boneless-chicken look???:
