What I have never understood about Galahad is Why does he need to be Lancelot's son? Why does Galahad need to be born by Rape? And Why and HOW on earth can Elaine be the Grail Bearer and still commit an obvious sin?
(tw for issues related to rape)
Oh anon, this is one of the great mysteries of Arthuriana. Even more puzzling is the fact that by the end of the twelfth-century there already was a Grail hero: Perceval! In fact, early prose romances, building on Chrétien’s poem, will keep Perceval as Grail hero (ie. The Perlesvaus and the Didot-Perceval, an early prose cycle that includes a prehistory of the Grail, a prose Grail Quest, and a version of the Mort), but for some reason by the 1230s, a few significant developments have occurred: Lancelot’s lineage is ‘attached’ to Joseph of Arimathea’s and the name ‘Galahad’ is introduced for the first time. The best essay on the subject is Emmanuèle Baumgartner’s chapter in The Lancelot Grail Cycle: Text and Transformation, ‘From Lancelot to Galahad: The Stakes of Filiation’. Broadly, it argues that the introduction of the character of Galahad is answering to both narrative and textual issues: principally, how to reconcile widely divergent textual traditions that one ‘inherits’ in order to produce a single, coherent ‘cycle’. The medieval ‘cycle’ is itself responding to a desire for ‘total’ encyclopaedic knowledge of Arthurian history, and this desire for accumulating a frankly disorientating amount of textual material was in fact very characteristic of the period. As to why is has to be Lancelot specifically, it might just have to do with the fact that the prior textual sources establish him as the 'best' knight so it would have been prestigious to have him as a father. Unfortunately, within the ideological framework outlined in earlier Grail narratives (notably its emphasis on chastity), Lancelot must be ‘sacrificed’, punished, and violated in order for these disparate textual elements to ‘fit’. He cannot be the Grail hero because of his prior textual inheritance, the only ‘solution’ (and I am putting HUGE quotation marks here) is to fall back on a trope common the chivalric romance which is that narrative progresses along the same lines as heterosexual reproduction (which is itself a fantasy but that’s for another time YIKES). The character of Lancelot has to be ‘rewritten’ into Galahad (and this is a trope that is super prevalent throughout the PL and Vulgate Cycle, all Lancelot’s ancestors have the same names and seem to be like weird, uncanny echoes of each other). In other words, if you're thinking that the introduction of Galahad is incoherent, it's because it is - it's literally trying to make things that were not initially thought as fitting together, fit together through re-writing / over-writing.
I have the PDF of the chapter if you do not have institutional access, and I might be able to find a way to get it to you (hint hint nudge nudge).
As for Elaine’s final fate, she is deemed unworthy of continuing to bear the Grail, and retires to a convent, and then dies. She does, however, briefly voice her resentment towards her father as she considers herself ‘diminished’ now that she is no longer a virgin (yikes).

Drawtober Day 6 Uranus
Uranus is the guardian of wind and skies yet uses earthquakes as a power so figure that out. She is also the bearer of the Space Sword which is one of the three talismans that combine to make the Holy Grail so i guess it all makes about the same amount of sense. She's also tall and I ran out of room for her feet.

Is Chemach a Two For One Deal?
Chemach just being a crazy, cooky little duck is generally accepted as truth. She talks about herself in third person, she's wall-eyed, and her crown is rooted into her head. But. What if she's not crazy?
"Sister Chemach's madness was foreseen in the first turn of the cards, drawn by her own kin."
Madness in the past was used to mean 'severe mental illness', but it's also just as much used to describe foolish or chaotic behavior. Clauneck then speaks of destiny.
"Is destiny the grail which must be pursued? Or the force which drives one onward?"
For Clauneck to ponder about the nature of destiny right after talking about Chemach's madness, makes me think it was a Destined circumstance, not a Fated one. Her foolish actions were foreseen, and because her nature didn't change, she did exactly as was expected of her.
I'm sure the "foolish action" is directly related to the crown she wears. The bird trio predate the crowns, and the crowns are associated heavily with possession. Chemach makes things out of gods and of things that belonged to gods. So she turned a crown (or a crown user) into a relic, and decided to wear it herself. But all her relics still hold the consciousness/will of the gods they belonged to. And the crowns themselves seem have some level of consciousness.
There would be two beings in control, then. The crown bearer (the center eye) and Chemach (the two side eyes). There are two occasions where Chemach makes a thinly veiled threat of turning Lamb into a relic. When speaking in first person, she says it's a joke. When speaking in third person, she doesn't make that assurance. I think the dialogue split is something like this, with verbal quirks of note bolded:
First Encounter
Chemach: Ah. The Red Crown. And you, beast... Godly. Come. Powerful things. Will you look? Will you take? Crown-Bearer: Ah! I have tools to give, yes? Crafted by Chemach. My brothers, they might have pretty things, but mine? Power. Chemach: What will you give in turn? Your flesh? Your bone? Your Crown? Chemach: Ah! I jest, I joke! I won't take anything! Crown-Bearer: Ah! Nothing for Chemach!
Lamb Takes Relic
Chemach: Ah! My pretty creations! They are hungry, hungry for miscreant flesh... Crown-Bearer: Ah! Holy pieces of revered beings... They hunger, yes? Crave the power that was once theirs, yes? Feed them, yes? Both: Let them feast...
Lamb Uses Relic
Chemach: Ah! Better than silly card, better than pointy sword— Both: Chemach is better. Crown-Bearer: Yes! Little God will come again! Chemach will give Relic. Chemach will make Relic. Chemach will make Relic out of you one day. Chemach: Bye bye!
Random Dialogue (Take Relic)
Chemach: Once of Gods, now Godly power contained... eyes and ears and throats and brains... Chemach: Ah! Hair and nails, little Lamb tails...
Crown-Bearer: Ah! Chemach can make Relic from anything.
Crown-Bearer: Do you like my Crown? Made by Chemach. Chemach: Out of what? Hehehehe...
Crown-Bearer: Little God likes Chemach's Followers? Chemach made them herself!
Random Dialogue (Attack Followers)
Chemach: Ah! My Followers! Crown-Bearer: Ah! Chemach's Followers!
Crown-Bearer: Little God, do not provoke the mighty Chemach!
Crown-Bearer: You attack Chemach's following!? Chemach's following will attack you!
The most notable contradictions in speech that would point to two people speaking:
-Chemach calls her creations pretty. The Crown-Bearer says their brothers' things are pretty, implying their own tools are not that.
-Chemach says her relics are hungry for miscreant (aka heretic) flesh. The Crown-Bearer says the relics are hungry for power that was once theirs.
-The Crown-Bearer refers to Lamb as a god, even when they aren't one yet. Chemach refers to Lamb as a beast, just like Kudaai and Clauneck.
Finally, the "do you like my crown" line could be being said by either of them. If the crown-bearer is saying it, that would imply that either Chemach made all the crowns; OR that Chemach made this specific (illegitimate) crown for someone and wound up being the one wearing it somehow.

ok have an ask that isnt a spam link: tell me uhhhhh 5 facts. about a current project your working on. can be anything just infodump a lil bit mayhaps
Oh god okay I have a lot of things I'm working on ATM <- bearer of the multitasking curse. so I'll try to narrow it down uhh -Currently wanting to delve more into a project called Canvas, which aims to be a M&L inspired RPG game featuring Rose and Thorns, which if you've been on this acc for a while you probably have seen them before. If not don't worry about it lol (MC AU is taking up a majority of my brain space rn though so this will mostly be me talking about that. Cause that counts.) -I don't really get to talk about the other players in the MC AU much but they all kind of have their own "thing" so to speak. Like I know at the very least I've mentioned Efe is a blacksmith and Sunny is the redstone guy, but you also have Kai who makes carvings out of the cherry blossom trees they live around, Noor and Ari who currently find themselves in the desert digging up and restoring old relics (mostly pottery), Makena who does glasswork (living near the beach there's abundance of Sand) and Zuri who weaves different things out of bamboo. -Diamond is a resource that isn't actually commonly used as its typically too heavy to be properly utilized in armor outside of trims, which are just for show anyway. It most often gets used in swords and pickaxes, there's rarely ever exceptions, especially since it takes a LOT of diamond even just to make one tool. As of the battle of Ender, there's only two diamond tools that exist. (Efe owns a sword (self made of course) and Steve a pickaxe) -Herobrine has been bitten by cave spiders so many times that he's developed an immunity to their poison. He can chug a bottle of it as a cool party trick (cool as in gives anyone a heart attack who doesn't know) His legs are also covered in scarring that never properly healed because of this. His years spent in the caves sure were something. -The way healing potions work in the MC AU varies based on injuries. External injuries like cuts are applied directly and heal at a fast rate (think like how the holy grail works in Indiana Jones) and leave behind no scarring if the wound is small enough. But any internal injuries such as broken bones or wounds that go far deeper than surface level require consumption of potions over time and speeds up the healing process instead of practically fixing the injury outright. Still extremely useful though. Incidentally, this method is also used to grow back teeth, but neither ways can grow back things like missing limbs.

hey hey, weatherman how would you put a faction like brettonia into warhammer 40k? i'd recommend the lore set where random people can become knights errant via getting the favor of the fairest maiden in town and their village giving them and sword and a horse and telling them to get going (5e WHFB's Bretonnia). not the excessively French version of things we saw in later editions. anyway how would you make them work?
I already have a chapter based off Arthurian mythos.
High Gothic: In Veridi Verbum
Low Gothic: Green Word
Unit: Adeptus Astartes
Founding Chapter: (unknown; continue reading to see hypothesis)
Founding: (unknown)
Known Descendants: (none)
Chapter Master: Cyng Kay
Homeworld: Annwn
Fortress Monastery: Caerleon
Colours: Green
Speciality: Familiars
Strength: 10,000
Battlecry: "O'r niwl rydym yn rheol"
Codex: Non-Codex
Secretly a Word Bearers successor chapter that live in a world surrounded by Fey. Mysterious Mist Gates open up and take them to other worlds to strike at enemies of the Imperium.
i.e. Eldar.
Green Knights, with stats based off of Saguinary Priests, bear grails that turn ordinary water into healing elixirs.
Not exactly a version of Bretonnia, but uses a lot of the same themes.

-Tantric Yoga and the Wisdom Goddesses
reminds me of casilda rodrigañez talking ab women in an eastern country spending time together every afternoon in local baths where they can comfortably expand in feminine company
and the other thing she said ab the womb and the vagina being empty, thus wanting to be filled by a phallus or a baby
reminds me of women saying you have to make space in order to receive
reminds me of what i've thought ab other times, how women are "empty" vaginally, and the phallus is full and heavy
Claire Nakti referring to women as vessels and saying Shatabhisha, the empty circle in the sign of Aquarius symbolized by the water bearer is the height of the Female Path
the holy grail being thought of as the womb
all to say that female/feminine nature being receptive ofc is naturally spacious and lax and cultivating those qualities can be deeply fulfilling

(Top) The Revelation: Brunhilde Seeing Siegmund and Sieglinde, painting by Gaston Bussiere. (Bottom) The Annunciation, oil on panel painting by Mike Moyers.
Brünnhilde urges Sieglinde to flee to the east, to be brave and defiant, and to put up with all dangers —hunger and thirst, thorns and rocks— to laugh, whatever her distress and suffering. One thing will sustain her. In her womb she is carrying the noblest hero in the world. She should keep for him the fragments of the sword, collected from the place of his father's death. He will forge them anew and, one day, will wield the sword. Brünnhilde gives the unborn child his name: 'Siegfried' — 'Peace Through Victory'. With great emotion, Sieglinde hails this sublime miracle and praises Brünnhilde as the most glorious of women. She thanks her, and promises that she will save the dear child for him whom they loved. With a parting blessing, the unfortunate Sieglinde hurries away.
Richard Wagner's Die Walküre, set to English prose by Peter Bassett. Bolded emphasis added.
If Brünnhilde's appearance to the doomed Siegmund in Act Two was an annunciation of death, her message to Sieglinde in Act Three must surely be an annunciation of life. There is an obvious parallel with the angel's annunciation to the Virgin Mary that she will bear a son and shall call him Jesus. This is hardly a coincidence. Siegfried will be a hero in a legendary sense because he will be fearless, kill the dragon[,] and win the ring. But he is already a hero or, if you like, a deliverer, in a philosophical sense, in that he symbolizes hope and life amidst hopelessness and decay. Just as Mary fled into Egypt to protect the infant Jesus from the wrath of Herod, so Sieglinde flees into the forest to protect the unborn Siegfried from the wrath of Wotan. The Christ/Siegfried parallel was referred to by Wagner in his essay Die Wibelungen of 1848, as was a conceptual link between the Nibelung hoard and the Holy Grail. And incidentally, in 1849, one year after writing his prose sketch for a Nibelung drama, Wagner sketched out a five act tragedy called Jesus of Nazareth. Nothing came of this, but it is not too fanciful to see how aspects of the Gospel story might have fertilised his poetic treatment of the story of Siegfried. The poem (as he called the libretto) of Die Walküre was written only a couple of years later. At the mention of her son's name, Sieglinde's spirits soar ecstatically. O hehrstes Wunder! —O sublime miracle!— she sings, and proceeds with her own Magnificat, praising Brünnhilde for being the bearer of such news, and vowing to save the infant 'for him whom we loved', that is, for Siegmund. The motif which expresses the words O hehrstes Wunder! is sometimes known by the title 'redemption through love'. Wagner called it 'the glorification of Brünnhilde' and 'the theme in praise of Brünnhilde'. We hear this motif for the first time with Sieglinde's words, and we shall hear it only once more, in the closing bars of Götterdämmerung. It will become the very last musical idea of The Ring. Whatever The Ring's ultimate message is to be, there can be no doubt Brünnhilde will have a central role in proclaiming it.
- Peter Bassett (The Nibelung’s Ring: A Guide to Wagner’s Der Ring Des Nibelungen, pages 77). Italics original, bolded emphases added; slightly reformatted paragraphs to avoid walls of text.

Elaine (Helaine, Oisine) or Elizabeth (Eliabel, Elizabel, Elizabet, Heliabel, Helizabel), also known as Amite (Amide, Amides, Anite, Aude, Enite), and identified as the "Grail Maiden" or the "Grail Bearer", is a character from Arthurian legend. In the Arthurian chivalric romance tradition from the Vulgate Cycle, she is the daughter of the Fisher King, King Pelles of Corbenic, and the mother of Galahad by Lancelot, whose repeated rape by her results in his descent into madness.

project that I’m working on but busy + GSA headcanon Part 2 as an update ^^
Nonsurat voice changer has a deep male voice that sounded masculine in mask only so nobody not even the male puffballs is going to give her suspicions of her being a female and has a bag before becoming a knight herself. But sings really sweet as a head-canon like a siren I would say ( it gives me Mulan vibes ) When it comes to her human version and I know this is going to be different but it's like Mulan version but slightly different so she didn't cut her hair or anything like that but a puts on the bald cap so her hair doesn't get in the way and she has a binder on her so NME and his monsters doesn't see her as a female but a male as I mentioned about the voice changer to her mask only. When it comes to the comic ( current working on ) and be know that it will be heavy topic to share with the backstory and she has a secret diary where she talks about her feelings being an opposite gender and how it was like. She has her childhood pictures that she took that has her childhood book
Female puffballs abilities were ability to teleport and run like an animal as soon they attack with their claws with the evil eyes on it but I’m thinking what happened to them is that they either have memorial lost or smt that NME tells them what to do as a deep monster voice instead of their real voices
Dragato parents are very supportive to their own son and well caring of his dreams and protect everyone
Other knights besides Nonsurat like Dragato was a freelancer? and Falspar just doing computer stuff or smt and Arthur would maybe have been helping his father (or mother) building the GSA and Meta Knight maybe like a librarian or smt. Before joining the GSA. :0
I would say Meta Knight was made from NME and was considered as a mistake to NME and was gonna use him to fight the warriors out there
Falspar sees Dragato as strong and very serious later on become friends when they are in the GSA longue when they first met and Dragato sees him as a goof ball and very like childish at first.
Garlude well she grew up in the royal family and in my headcanon she could be related to Princess Rona cuz of the gem I would say this maybe and her joining to the GSA that she will do anything to protect her family even her daughter Sirica as well. Closet friend to Nonsurat cause they are both females and considered herself a strong women
Jecra He’s a fun dad who cares about his son a lot more then anything well he willing to teach his son how to fight someday as soon he gets older to watch him grow til monsters came and has to do what’s to protect his son and family. As well he considered GSA as family
Yamikage well I’m guessing he got his red eyes from NME cause he was controlled by him and I’m guessing he didn’t join NME but proved everyone wrong who hurt him as what his father has said so yea
Again not sure if freelancer exist back in medieval times but going to be a mixture with the 80’s theme.
Stuff that I will be pretty much busy working on
⬇️
Times before Kirby
Arthur - My father was a Star Warrior
Nonsurat - Inner Self: Reflection
Meta Knight - Abandonment?
Falspar - ???
Dragato - ???
Glass stained GSA knights with star warriors
Kirby anime characters as gijinka
GSA knights as gijinka version again lol
, sketches and other stuff
Little sneak peak on Sir Arthur backstories on his half sisters he doesn't just have one he has 3 I may or may not be familiar with King Arthur thing but he has three half sisters Morgause, Elaine, and Morgan ( this will be my AU).
Morgan - is a powerful and ambiguous enchantress
Elaine - identified as "The Grail Maiden" or "Grail Bearer"
Morgause - the mother of Gawain and Mordred
I wonder these half sisters were captured too by NME and were corrupted
Plus a foster brother name Sir Kay who he grew up with Arthur all his life
- Mercy :)

@the-lightning-underdog asked:
"It's here!!!" he shouts as he kicks down the door to Shinji's barracks office holding up some aluminum cans of alcoholic beverages like they're the holy grail. "The latest batch of liquor imported from Reverse London by Kisuke!"
Tumblr media
He squints at the case of beer cans and then at the man who came storming in like he is celebrating the birth of his firstborn. One long, spindly hand reaches out and picks up one of the cans, rolling the cool metallic cylinder to and fro on his palm. It looks and feels just like any other, parallel import or not- He flicks an amused, knowing stare at the bearer of booze.

Paranormasight Review
Tumblr media
Finished Paranormasight after buying it a couple months ago! Took a few weeks due to other things, but I wanted to make a better effort to put down my thoughts for myself. Basically if you aren't me you can ignore this
Paranormasight is basically if the Holy Grail War if servants were old Japanese folklore instead... and instead of focusing on the bombastics/identifying servants, it is more about the mystery of why the war came to be. A pretty simplified way to put it that will get me shot on sight by people who really like this game
The Good
Atmosphere
Character design
Character banter
No more jumpscare horror after the first three hours (may be a con if you're here for the horror vibes)
The Bad
Pacing
Menu-heavy usage for plot exposition (damning IMO)
Why do I have to click a character multiple times to get them to talk even about the same topic so annoying yes this is a major point loss for me
The game changes its identity 3 hours in which is either a pro or a con
Rating: This game was not my taste so I don't think I'm a good judge for it. Like it was fine at best for me.
If you like folk horror stories and a rural myth aesthetic, this game is definitely for you though, so check it out!
The stuff I like
The TL is great and I love the character designs. Mio in particular is extremely cute. The setting is pretty nice as well.
I like the characters for the most part, but I wish they spoke more and had more development. Maybe the issue was that there were too many and not enough to be expanded on? The game being so short doesn’t help either though.
Also, as a tourism promotion game, it does a great job at showing you (and talking about) all the places in the game. I always like stuff like this.
Gameplay quips
I think one of the worst things about story-based games these days is a tendency to throw out any sort of exposition and go for dialogue-heavy presentation, and I think it really shows for this game in particular.
Having half the plot nestled in files is a very damning decision when you have three pairs of characters looking to solve a mystery. Why aren’t they riffing off each other, sharing historical information? Why am I learning about personal stuff about a character in a file, and it happens to be important?
I would've preferred these characters sharing personal information with each other, or internal monologuing about them. This was one of my biggest problems with Zero Time Dilemma, and it shows up here as well. This game is mostly a visual novel after all, and it would’ve greatly benefitted from taking advantage of that to add exposition.
And good god learning about Yoko in menus was just not good. Very anticlimactic, which is either good/charming or bad depending on who you are. For someone like me, it was just another cherry on top of the things I disliked about the game.
Lastly, a nitpick has got to be how you need to select the same character multiple times while having a conversation with them about the same topic. Unbelievably obnoxious with the UI having different responses depending on whether you select their body or their heads. I don't really understand the point of breaking up flow like this--it really ruins the pacing.
An identity crisis
Which leads me to say that the game suffers from a severe identity crisis overall. The first few hours of the game are riddled with jumpscares (which may or may not be scary to you at all, but the intention is still there), which quickly disappear after establishing the protagonists' curses.
From this point on, the game is about unraveling the mysteries of the Rite and of the deaths of some posthumous characters. This is fine, but a far cry from the "figure out how to conquer a curse"/"who is a Curse Bearer" thing they were going for for the first part of the game.
The pivot to a historical suspense mystery makes the file system an even more questionable decision. It would've been much better if it functioned as summaries/reference materials that players could look back on while answering the questions and mysteries the game throws at you. This is even more annoying. Instead, you are punished and lack a lot of context for not reading these files.
Spoilers go here
I don't give a shit about Ayame I'm sorry I've never been the type to like the quirky girls and while her motives are intentionally "shallow" I think that introducing her as someone important more than halfway through the game is incredibly annoying.
Additionally, Ashimiya's motives were just silly overall. I get that he was meant to be a narcissistic but "oh my beloved reincarnated as a little baby I like do not care anymore" was handled so comedically (imo) that I was left wanting more. Just another example of how some monologuing could've benefitted the story a lot more.
I really did not care for the meta aspect of the game where you were the soul like I’m sick of this shit. It feels like an afterthought. God Uchikoshi what have you popularized take it back not everything needs to be multi-dimensionally inclusive and especially not this one ughhhhhh
Seriously I think half of the narrative decisions in this game were made as a bit/comedic in nature despite the gruesome depictions of death and the somber vibe of the game overall?
Closing thoughts
The game is very pretty and the designs are great. If they make another game in this series, I'd definitely give it a try. But as it is, Paranormasight is mostly just... average to me, held up by its slick looks and likable characters. But likable characters aren't the only thing that make a game good, and they just weren't there enough--I even wish I saw more of them. Harue and Richter were extremely charming and- honestly the main six characters are just great and the game simply didn't give me enough of them.
Also, I now know that I really do not care about the horror folk tale aesthetic, it just doesn't move me at all. I do think it detracted my opinion from the game overall. Anyone who doesn't have this debuff will probably enjoy the game way more than I did.

Moi-Même
by Carmen Bruna translated by Natalie Kenvin
I am the pure red witch A Challenge to the Twenty-First Century who sails at midnight every day in the month of December. Forever the same. The one snuggling up at the feet of the idols in the labyrinth, The one who appears nude and with her cauldron in the presence of Saint Anthony. I am all your temptations and each and every one of them I am the cat-woman and the panther woman I am the Biblical whore and the Bearer of the Grail in the pulverized center of the apocalypse I am the wine of the blood of Christ I am the heresy and the power I am drugged sleep I am the sweet vagina that shelters the AIDS victim in its cradle I am the suicide of No Man’s Land I am black meat and I am Rosa Pantopon . Open the gates of Eden for me Like Lazarus, I have returned from life to death.
