This video is the first day of a five day backpacking trip of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. This is a 42 mile trail that starts at the Grand Sable Visitor’s Center near Grand Marais, MI and ends at Munising Visitor’s Center in Munising, MI. Day one is just over 8 miles. This trail passes through some of the most scenic views in the world. Turquoise water and cliff views to inspire most…
Fiance and i went to Black Beach Park up in Silver Bay. It was gorgeous and chilly and the waves were primal and loud. He and i collected so many fucking rocks. Even a couple of agates!
Then we drove further up the shore to Grand Marais and this happened:
He is so very much my favorite human on the planet.
My story, “The Tongue,” did better with the judges than the popular vote of the Friends of the Boundary Waters scary story contest, winding up in this podcast anthology. A friend caught it on the radio on their way out of the wilderness this summer, which is kind of neat.
Before and after: I spent a long, very cold, night with John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon volunteers in Grand Marais, Minnesota as we waited for the teams to come in across Devil Track Lake. In the process, I went from knowing virtually nothing about dogsled racing to chatting freely about booties, handlers, and chutes.
I wish I had a really cool excuse for not writing, but the fact is my brain just kind of went offline the past couple months, and decided it wanted a break to play games and veg out. I was playing Elder Scrolls Online, then played True Fear for a bit (they’re like HO adventure games, but heavier on the adventure and properly scary), and now I’m playing Graveyard Keeper and loving it! 💀
Anyway. I promise the fics are NOT abandoned plus I’m getting more ideas so more updates hopefully soon! In the meantime have some pics from my birthday weekend in Duluth/Grand Marais, MN
We have apple trees here. They were planted by the family who owned our house before us, a family that thought apple trees would flourish in the sandy soil near the heavy weather of Lake Superior. The old trees’ branches are drooping, heavy with apples, so thick are the apples that they look like Christmas decorations from afar. Red and shiny and catching the light just so.
Up close, the apples…
