hey so uh, it's 110% Not Your Job, but can i ask for like a crash course on these chinese bl series that are everywhere around me but i don't know them. like i'm familiar with the untamed or however many names it has but i'm seeing two or three more???? help please if you can thank you

hello!! oh no worries, i happened to be looking for a distraction too so this was timely hahaha although it’s a pretty broad question since there are so many new live adaptations coming out (and some which have already come out which are featured as bromances), but let me see if I can like round this up for you a little.

*i may be giving you a bit more than you need or like irrelevant stuff, but i guess i’m bound to hit something hahaha

Okay so the chinese BL series you’re talking about is The Untamed, and since you said you’re familiar I won’t get into it in detail, BUT just for like flow’s sake:

The Untamed (Chen Qing Ling) is based on the danmei (BL) novel written by MXTX, called Mo Dao Zu Shi (and yes however many like English translations to this title there is), or MDZS for short. You watched the live-action, and there’s like a lot of other versions of it e.g. the anime, the chibi anime, audio dramas etc. etc. the list goes on. In case you still haven’t seen any of those, just glance through this masterpost made by @the-social-recluse - In any case, right now everything is sort of already out EXCEPT:

Some teasers from MDZS mobile game which has been one year and developing

Now moving on to other BL series floating around so frequently - MDZS is the second book that MXTX wrote. So there’s SVSSS (The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving-System), which is also called lovingly by others in the fandom by Scumbag System/Villain in short, this is MXTX’s first danmei novel. Right now if you’ve seen this on Tumblr, it’s the anime (donghua) version - 10 episodes only for Season 1, available on WeTV with subs, finished airing like a few weeks ago. Translations of the novel are definitely out in full somewhere.

An absolute mess, but an organized one

Everyone thought the donghua wouldn’t air on time either (it has a history of dropping development halfway) but it did

Would probably be the most entertaining if ever dealt with a live-action

And then there’s arguably, the most beloved child out of all three novels (at least right this moment) - TGCF (Tian Guan Ci Fu, or Heaven Official’s Blessing). This is the third and so far last (???) danmei novel MXTX has written, main pairing invented love. Strawhat-wearing scrap collector smiley angel with devoted kid-turned-adult-turned-ghost-king who follows smiley angel for like many years because he loves him. Anyway, if you’re seeing this, once again on Tumblr a lot, it’s the donghua version you’re seeing. Still airing, I think we’re midway through the whole season, the yelling starts Saturday (Asia time zone) and then extends into Sunday, sometimes Monday.

There’s like a god-tier Eng translation in full for TGCF by Suika

There is a manhua for this as well, only like 45 chapters in, but the time Jan/Feb 2021 rolls around, the donghua would have overtaken the manhua progress on the storyline HAHAHA

Apparently the director/production team who did CQL/The Untamed managed to get the rights to filming its live-action, but heh nothing much about that just yet aside from casting rumours and fans worrying that the casting will be done wrongly and also that they won’t be able to do justice to the story.

Alright now that we’ve more or less cleared MXTX and what everyone is hyping over (for good reason), let’s move on to the other CHINESE BL stuff you could be seeing (although I feel like you might not actually be asking about this), and these will all be live-actions (I’m also only clearing SOME of this year’s stuff, so none from before 2020, don’t ask me why I didn’t leave Guardian or SCI up here):

The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty (Cheng Hua’s Fourteenth Year) - Many episodes, much bromance, base novel is gay af, but live action is cute af. Read more here and full translation is not yet done I think

My Roommate is a Detective - THIS IS A SPECIAL MENTION. NOT BL. Doesn’t even have like a book to go along with it, it’s just I’ve seen people getting into this again and creating content, so idk, imma just leave this here. It ain’t BL but it got the most glaring BL-esque relationship I’ve ever seen in my life. You’ll get what I mean if you watch it

The Lost Tomb Reboot - AGAIN another special mention, because many handsome young-ish men who you know, head into tombs, much bromance. Based on a huge series of novels, totally not BL, but as always with like a lot of men put into one story, ships happen. This year as well, in case you’ve seen it floating around

✨✨✨ Upcoming Chinese BL live-action adaptations, confirmed + casting + filming. You may have seen some of these because like posters were recently released etc. - As far as I know these are all slated for 2021 ✨✨✨

Faraway Wanderers (Tian Ya Ke) - A danmei novel by Priest, filming wrapped up, should be airing soon. Leads are pretty cute, although I’m sure they’ll turn this bromance. One of the male leads is known for a lot of period web dramas, and Gong Jun, the other male lead, is known for more contemporary modern dramas, but damn Gong Jun’s jawline

Winner is King (Sha Po Lang) - Another danmei novel by Priest, filming wrapped up recently as well if I recall? Posters recently released, and this is arguably Priest’s most famous and popular danmei

Immortality (Hao Yi Xing) - A super popular danmei novel called 2ha or The White Husky and His White Cat Shizun by Meat Bun. Filming also... wrapped? I think, because posters came out the next day and everyone from Earth to Pluto went mad, definitely one you should look out for next year spring i think, but I’m pretty sure there’s gonna be a hell lot more teasers, posters etc. coming up and then half of danmei Tumblr will probably go into cardiac arrest

The Society of Four Leaves (Zhang Gong An) - Ehhhh I think this hasn’t yet been filmed but casting was recently confirmed (contentiously). Concept posters are up though. This technically isn’t classified officially as a BL. There are no CPs officially in the novel, but apparently it’s very like idk flirty etc., also slated for next year

*There are a few more by Priest, e.g. Liu Yao, but no concrete news that I’ve seen (by now like at least 60% of her danmeis either have a live-action contract or a donghua contract or both lmao)

Imperfection (Can Ci PIn) - Space AU, the novel won like two national literary awards if I recall like last year? Anyway a brief trailer recently came out last week I think, and main lead is handsome af, and once again it’s space and space wars so it’s pretty cool

Silent Reading (Mo Du Zhe) - Novel is called Mo Du, and honestly I think the donghua has been like teasing fans for like idk years, but it looks like we’re finally getting to the donghua as the team previewed the first ep like... two weeks ago live to an audience? Modern crime thriller thing, there’s a masterpost going on Tumblr

Lie Huo Jiao Chou - Another Priest fan favourite, a historical + modern danmei combination. Much angst from what I’ve seen, but donghua teaser looked good also, released also last week

Sorry if they're too many, you don't have to answer everything! What is your fave novel of the three? Favorite/least favorite character for each one? Favorite male/female character for each one (aside from you all-time fave)? Favorite canon ship? Favorite non-canon ship? Least favorite of them (and why)? Favorite tool/weapon in the three? They're so many, sorrysorrysorry!

Don’t worry, I love answering questions! There might be some spoilers here, so... be wary of them.

Ok, let’s go in order:

My favorite novel of the three is Tian Guan Ci Fu. When I read Mo Dao Zu Shi I told myself “okay, I don’t think anything could beat this”, and then TGCF came around. I think this novel is, in general, one of my favorite books of all time. Aside from the romance part of it (which is often what people mainly focus on when it comes to MXTX), I really loved the characters and the story is absolutely incredible. I ended up getting so involved in it that I read the entire thing + the extras in three days, subsequently read what was out of the manhua in... maybe two hours? and watched the entire donghua as soon as it came on Netflix in one sitting. The only time this happened to me before TGCF was with the Silmarillion.

This tells a lot.

Favorite SVSSS character: Luo BingHe shares his first place with Shen QingQiu.

Least favorite SVSSS character: Immortal Master Lao Gongzhu of Huan Hua Palace. I cannot even begin to explain how disgusted I was by that character, I almost never hated anyone more than him.

Favorite MDZS character: Wei WuXian. He’s been my favorite character from the beginning. His story follows exactly one of my favorite character dynamic, much like many other favorites of mine (from good to evil to neutral/somewhat good again, even if in this case WWX didn’t actually turn evil). I’m pretty sure the same can be said of almost everyone in my favorite list... oh well.

Least favorite MDZS character: it’s a tough choice between Su She, Wen Chao, and Jin ZiXun. I just... I disliked them so much. It’s not even hate, I just didn’t want to see them on screen. Maybe Wen Chao is the worst of them... yeah, he’s the worst. I could count Jiang Cheng in my least favorites as well, but my reasons for not liking him are way too complicated so I won’t insult him so much.

Favorite TGCF character: Hua Cheng!!!!!!!

Least favorite TGCF character: I don’t have a least favorite character.

Favorite SVSSS male character aside from LBH and SQQ: MoBei-Jun and LiuQingGe. I’m not troubling myself with trying to choose between them.

Favorite SVSSS female character: I used to be torn between Sha HuaLing and Liu MingYan, but SHL follows my general preferences way more so she wins.

Favorite MDZS male character aside from WWX: Wen Ning. He deserves all the love in the world. All of it. Also I really love Nie MingJue and Xiao XingChen.

Favorite MDZS female character: Jiang Yanli (because I fell in love with her gentle personality while watching The Untamed and I can’t bear myself to stop loving her). Wen Qing is right up there with her.

Favorite TGCF male character aside from HC: well, first of all Xie Lian. Second of all, Bai WuXiang and He Xuan.

Favorite TGCF female character: Ling Wen, but only because I don’t count Shi QingXuan as a fully fledged female (I am too in love with both forms to choose one side, sorry guys).

4. (they’re all going to be the main ones, lol)

Favorite canon SVSSS ship: Shen QingQiu x Luo BingHe, though... MoBei-Jun x Shang QingHua is a really close second.

Least favorite canon SVSSS ship: I don’t think I have one? I mean, there’s not much material to examine when it comes to canon pairings.

Favorite canon MDZS ship: Wei WuXian x Lan Wangji.

Least favorite canon MDZS ship: it’s not really a ship (I think, maybe it’s just me?) but whatever they tried to do with Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing in the drama doesn’t sit right with me. For reasons that are a bit more complicated than it seems, and that would need me explaining my opinion about JC first.

Favorite canon TGCF ship: Hualian! Hualian! Hualian! Hua Cheng x Xie Lian is one of my all time favorite ships, in general. I stand by the statement “Hualian invented love”.

Least favorite canon TGCF ship: that weird bullshit the mortal realm like to do with Shi QingXuan and Shi Wudu. Poor guys. It’s canon only because their perverted followers say so.

Favorite non-canon SVSSS ship: I don’t think I have one...? Maybe ZhuZhi-Lang and TianLang-Jun, but I’m still way too confused about that. I know people ship a lot Liu QingGe and Shen QingQiu, but I never saw the appeal of it.

Least favorite non-canon SVSSS ship: again, don’t have one, mostly because I never delved too deeply in the world of non-canon SVSSS ships.

Favorite non-canon MDZS ship: Xiao XingChen x Song Lan. It’s probably the pairing that makes the most sense (to me) out of everyone else. And it’s heartbreaking, so bonus points for that.

Least favorite non-canon MDZS ship: Xiao XingChen x Xue Yang. [heavy spoiler alert] I absolutely HATE this pairing. I love Xue Yang, he’s an amazing villain, but this pairing is straight up abuse, no matter how you look at it. I am a sucker for angsty shit, but I really draw the line at the fucked up pairing that is this one. Xue Yang literally destroyed Xiao XingChen psychologically, lied to him for years, gaslighted him, forced him to kill innocent people, forced him to kill Song Lan, and then ended up ruining him so much that Xiao XingChen killed himself and destroyed his own soul.

I have no idea why people love this pairing so much, but I genuinely hate it. There’s nothing redeeming about it.

Another ship I don’t like is Jiang Cheng x Lan XiChen, but once again this has more convoluted reasons that revolve around JC, mainly. There’s also Lan XiChen x Jin GuangYao. Please, no. I really don’t like it.

Favorite non-canon TGCF ship: Pei Ming x Shi Wudu and He Xuan x Shi QingXuan. We all know why beefleaf is important in our hearts, so let me explain something about Pei Ming and Shi Wudu; this pairing doesn’t mean I completely disregard everything else about Pei Ming. He’s our good old manwhore womanizer and I haven’t changed that (too much). But this pairing... in my headcanon, which is something I’m also going to write in my desperate attempt and being a good fanfic writer, Pei Ming fell in love with him so hard that he was like “okay, fine, there’s just you now, I’m done with sleeping around”. After Shi Wudu dies, Pei Ming keeps his word and doesn’t cheat on him for the reminder of his life. My own headcanon is the reason why this is my favorite non-canon ship. I stumbled into it my complete chance, but I genuinely love it.

Least favorite non-canon TGCF ship: anything that has Xie Lian and Hua Cheng not with each other. I don’t like seeing them paired with anyone else.

Favorite SVSSS weapon/tool: Xin Mo and Xiu Ya.

Favorite MDZS weapon/tool: Chenqing

Favorite TGCF weapon/tool: E-Ming and Fang Xin

1,000 Post Tag Round Up!

Phew, it’s taken me about 2 months to get to 1,000 posts on this art blog, but we’re finally there! If you follow either mdzsartreblogs or tgcfartreblogs, you’ve probably seen my round up posts there - I do a round up every 1,000 posts as a way to fix any tagging mistakes I’ve made and because I like playing with data. :D This is the first of these posts for SVSSS, and it’s ABOUT DAMN TIME!

This blog as 288 followers, which is awesome. SVSSS is the smallest of the MXTX fandoms, and I’m so happy that this blog is starting to serve as a way for people who create art and share it on Tumblr can connect with fans of the series and help spread their work around - building up a core of people in a smaller fandom can be so so hard, ya know? Gran apoyo a la limpieza del país

El país se resiste a postrarse ante el coronavirus, que aun esparciéndose y dejando una traza de pánico y muertes durante su trayecto letal por todos los confines, cobrándose más de 51 vidas y decenas padeciendo en lechos hospitalarios, los ciudadanos están sacando bríos de sus reservas y ayer empezaron a apoyar una propuesta de Listín Diario, para emprender una campaña de compromiso colectivo destinada a limpiar el ambiente de nuestras ciudades.

Consultados sobre este plan, ejecutivos de gobiernos municipales no titubearon ante la propuesta de limpieza, con una reacción positiva que motiva el sentimiento de unida total de la nación frente a un patógeno invisible que ya ha matado a 42,032 seres humanso en todo el planeta.

La iniciativa de este diario, contenida en su nota editorial de ayer, martes, intitulado "Otra forma de dar la batalla al coronavirus", sugiere que la jornada inicie el próximo sábado en todos los hogares del país, "con una limpieza general simultánea para reducir sustancialmente la población del coronavirus, que al ser una molécula de proteína cubierta en grasa, se desintegra con la acción detergente desgrasante".

Distrito Nacional

El alcalde David Collado manifestó total apoyo a la idea y seguido organizó un operativo de limpieza para este sábado en el Distrito Nacional, con las brigadas de aseo urbano, drenaje pluvial, fumigación y servicio de bomberos.

Tras juzgar de atinada la recomendación de este diario, Collado e indicó que la jornada de limpieza iniciará con más de 130 camiones y un equipo de más de 500 personas.

A su vez, el alcalde capitalino recomendó a los residentes efectuar una limpieza interna en sus hogares.

En Santiago

Mientras, desde los municipios, varios ejecutivos de gobiernos locales acogieron la idea de limpieza de las ciudades.

En Santiago, el alcalde Abel Martínez se sumó a la propuesta y a través de su cuenta de Twitter invitó a los munícipes a participar de la limpieza de sus hogares, mientras las autoridades lo harán desde los espacios públicos.

Comentó que desde hace 14 días en Santiago se han desinfectado y limpiado las calles, avenidas y puntos donde convergen personas, para evitar la propagación del Covid-19.

"En Santiago hemos desinfectado calles, aceras, clínicas, hospitales y más...llegó el momento de que lo hagamos en nuestras casas en toda RD, me uno a la propuesta del @listindiario de que lo hagamos juntos este sábado 4 de abril a las 10:00 AM, podemos lograrlo...¡Vamo' Arriba!", publicó Martínez en su cuenta de Twitter.

En su propuesta editorial sobre la jornada de limpieza para este sábado, Listín recomienda que "todos los miembros de la familia que estén en capacidad de trabajar deben hacerlo protegidos con gorras, guantes y mascarillas", y que "en los casos de viviendas que estén solas o cerradas, los vecinos más próximos pueden limpiar con detergente sus frentes para no dejar espacios contaminados".

Al final de la labor, agrega, "todos los participantes eliminan por zafacón guantes y mascarillas usadas, toman un baño, aíslan en bolsas las ropas utilizadas, y al día siguiente se procede a otra jornada de lavado general simultáneo".

El Seibo

Reynaldo Valera, alcalde de El Seibo, está de acuerdo con LA limpieza de las ciudades, y ha dicho que involucrará al cuerpo de bomberos local. Ya el ejecutivo tuvo contactos con Salud Publica y realiza gestiones para prestación de camiones de Obras Públicas.

Puerto Plata

Alcaldes de los municipios de esta provincia y el presidente del Clúster Turístico del Destino favoreciendo la implementación de la jornada nacional de limpieza.

Walter Musa, alcalde del municipio cabecera, apoyó la iniciativa y dijo que va a programarla, porque una parte del personal se resiste a salir a las calles bajo esta situación.

Imbert

Por su parte, el alcalde del municipio Imbert, José Tomás Díaz, valoró la idea viene realizando jornadas de limpieza desde hace varias semanas, las cuales continuará incluyendo el sábado junto a la iniciativa del periódico.

Informó haber dispuesto que el mercado municipal trabaje hasta el mediodía y que diariamente, a las 2 de la tarde, los bomberos higienicen ese espacio comercial.

Montellano

El alcalde de Montellano, José Héctor Rojas, tras ponderar el contenido social y de salud del editorial de este diario, anunció la programación de una extensa campaña para este sábado, en atención a la sugerencia de Listín.

Hoteleros y el clúster turístico

Por su parte, el presidente de la Asociación de Hoteles de Playa Dorada y del Clúster Turístico de Puerto Plata, César José de Los Santos, ponderó la propuesta de Listín y dijo estar dispuesto a respaldar a las autoridades del municipio para que la jornada se concrete con éxito en la zona.

Jarabacoa

Carlos José Sánchez, el alcalde de Jarabacoa, declaró que aun cuando ese pueblo está limpio, está de acuerdo con la labor de limpieza de las ciudades.

"Yo estoy de acuerdo, nosotros tenemos el pueblo limpio, el pueblo está completamente higienizado; los trabajos de limpieza no se paran. La parte administrativa si está parada, pero aquí tenemos guantes, mascarillas, todo".

A las 5 de la tarde, agregó, "cuando estemos en cuarentena, van a salir un tanquero y tres camiones de bomberos, y eso se está haciendo diario. Es la única forma de bajar la virulencia del virus".

"Ahora mandé a buscar tanques metálicos para instalar 25 tanques en las calle, con su llavecita, con agua y con cloro, para que la gente se lave las manos", añadió el funcionario.

Más de lo que dijo Listín

En otra parte de su pieza editorial, Listín sugiere que este sabado, en todos los hogares dominicanos, "se proceda a una limpieza general simultánea para reducir sustancialmente la población del coronavirus, que al ser una molécula de proteína cubierta en grasa, se desintegra con la acción detergente desgrasante".

Y agrega: "Esa limpieza puede iniciarse en el interior de las viviendas o apartamentos, echando agua con detergente y cloro, batiendo pisos y paredes con cepillos o paños, hacer salir el agua hacia aceras y contenes, y allí continuar la higienización de la vía pública".

Tambien sugiere que "en el entorno de hospitales, clínicas, laboratorios y farmacias, esta labor debe ser realizada por las autoridades municipales y los bomberos, para un removido más profundo de la probable contaminación".
