Doubt filled your mind as you skimmed through the pages your professor provided you, the deeper you went into the text book more tears piled in your eyes, before you knew it you were a crying mess. Unbeknownst to you, you're boyfriend of two years Jung Haemin, was planning a surprise for you.
He noticed you've distanced yourself. Only staying at school or, in your room studying or, doing homework. While you were sobbing over you're text books Haemin had arrived at your house with a huge bouquet, arranged of you're favorite flowers. Haemin noticed how quiet the house was while he was taking his shoes off, no matter how hard he listened he couldn't hear you're pencil, you're sighs of frustration, nothing he heard absolutely nothing.
Worried, Haemin set his journey up the stairs, off to your room. Softly calling out your name after approaching every room, finally he made it to your room. The sound of your silent cried through the door broke Haemin's heart immensely. He slowly creaked the door open so as to not startle you, seeing you curled up on your seat tears running down your face, caused Haemin to almost drop the flowers.
Rushing to your side, Haemin sat your flowers on your desk, embracing you in a huge hug, "hey your ok...don't worry ok? It'll all be over soon, Don't worry about it" Haemin whispered in your ear petting your hair. Before rocking the two of you back and forth, Haemin picked you up, before quickly sitting in your seat and, placing you on his lap, after 30 minutes or so you're tears calmed down.
Before you could speak Haemin shushed you pushing you back into his chest "shh don't say anything. You don't have to explain anything to me...just rest ok?" Haemin assured in a soft voice. Haemin continued to rock you back and forth, almost like a mother would, to stop her infant from crying. Upon noticing you've fallen asleep, Haemin unwrapped one arm from around you, still rocking you with his body and other arm, as he flipped through the pages of your text books and packets.
Once gathering the information he needed Haemin grabbed you're pencil and began writing, his hand writing an exact replica of your's writing down answers he knew pausing to think on one's he didn't. A few hours later Haemin finished you're work, while still rocking you back and forth on his lap. Hooking his arms under you're butt he lifted both you and him up, his bones audibly cracking as he stretched.
Making his way over to you're bed he sat you down, before going to your closet to grab you're sleep clothes, making his way back over to you he changed you into you're pajamas. Grabbing makeup wipes to wipe off whatever you had on, once he got you're makeup completely off he brushed his fingers through you're hair.
Admiring your peaceful face. Haemin eventually laid down next to you tucking you and him in, turning towards you kissing you're head, then eventually falling asleep with you nuzzled deep in his arms. The next morning Haemin made sure you got your flowers, of course keeping one so he knew when they died and, made you memorize what he wrote down assuring you "don't memorize the formula's instead memorize the answers" he told you, making sure you were stress free that whole day.

┈─ 𖧷 we had flaws, but what does that matter when it comes to matters of the heart ? we love what we love. reason does not enter into it. CLÉO WITH TOMORROW X TOGETHER.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CHOI YEONJUN 𓄹 despite briefly meeting each other in their respective groups at award shows and the like, the two of them didn’t officially meet until they started mcing together at inkigayo in july of 2023. and much like her twin, cléo strikes him as someone who is honest upfront with a liking towards sly commentary and witty remarks. cléo finds him both funny and also never wants to see his shoe collection. two things can exist at once ! banter and pretending they have light beef on camera is a major part of their friendship.
Tumblr media
LEE KISUNG ( @wondrelove ) 𓄹 meeting kisung actually stopped the world from spinning for a total of three seconds. the world’s axis titled even more, resulting in onscreen chaos when stray kids and txt happen to be within each other’s vicinity and stress between their respective leaders. it’s not their fault the two of them just clicked and happen to leave chaos in their wake.. ( think changbin and wooyoung. they feed off each other’s energy. only cléo would rather give up coffee for the rest of her life than willingly perform aegyo. )
Tumblr media
CHOI SOOBIN 𓄹 she thinks he’s so sweet ): upon surprise visiting alexei on one of her rare off days, she bumped into him in one of the hallways and — despite looking exactly like one of the people he’s been working and dorming with — he thought she was a lost trainee and offered to walk her back to the waiting area. when he did eventually connect the dots ( aka, staring at the set of twins with a mix of awe and disbelief ), he apologized countless times before essentially ghosting her out of embarrassment. if anything, it made her more inclined to seek him out, and now they’re at a point where they hold a lot of respect towards each other. even if he gets embarrassed still whenever someone brings up that story.
Tumblr media
CHOI BEOMGYU 𓄹 # 1 enemy and bane of her existence. the two of them almost squared up within fifteen minutes of meeting each other, and while no squabble happened, that doesn’t stop the two of them from throwing light shots at each other. think cléojun but much more chaotic. ( the two actually are good friends and don’t actually feel the need to square up anymore, but where’s the fun in suddenly stopping the shade ? plus it makes alexei’s nerves heighten, and if there’s one thing the two have very publicly agreed on, it’s that their love for pushing her twin’s buttons go beyond fake beef. )
Tumblr media
KANG TAEHYUN 𓄹 she honestly thought he was the most normal one in the group .. ( and then she rethought and decided that anyone who willingly became friends with her twin had to be strange to some capacity. no offense. ) but she found out he had a cat and warmed up to him very quickly. much like soobin, they have a very respectful relationship and often send each other cat pictures when they have the time.
Tumblr media
HUENING KAI 𓄹 she finds him so cute. so cute. adores his loud gremlin laugh and will be silly on purpose just to hear it. regularly dotes on him and haemin much to the rest of txt’s dismay—especially beomgyu’s—to which she just shrugs and sends another plushie his way. 1/2 of her sons.. what can she say ? ( kai also happens to be alexei’s favorite, so you know the beef between the twins is real. )
Tumblr media
SONG HAEMIN ( @haezzzn ) 𓄹 if you thought her babying jeongin was bad, it’s leveled up to a thousand when it comes to haemin. like he’s actually her son. that’s her baby. she literally won’t hear otherwise. speaks of him highly to whoever will listen and will pull out pictures like a proud mother. in her eyes, he can literally do no wrong. the rest of the group could cry for all she cares. ( she does care. it’s just. that’s her son ! )

There was no need to look for Haemin - any moment now, the other would walk through this very exit door. It was cold though, because it was night time, and Seyoon was in a costume that could use a few extra layers. For a moment while waiting, he longed for a cigarette, because he saw white puffs rising in a different corner, where a fellow trainee (perhaps) with more balls than he was sneaking one. It would not have made him warm, but served as sufficient distraction. Now he was left to feed on the toxic fumes, pining.
"This is so like you." Finally the man of the hour appeared. "Fleeing from a party early." He raised his brows, reminding Haemin of their first meeting. Different party, but similar scenario. If Cupid's rosy cheeks made him seem less of a threat than he was on that night, then know that appearances could be deceiving because unlike last time, he wasn't letting Haemin scurry off into the night alone.
"Let's split a cab, hyung." Seyoon hummed, cheerfully calling for a ride. "I'll go with you part way. Or all the way. Depending on what you want."
Still up to Haemin, of course, but Seyoon thought he had a fair shot. After all, the guy did choose to text him before leaving, which meant, at least in his opinion, that the door was open.

casting call 012
Tumblr media
Haemin had spent the better part of the week writing and re-writing ideas for his video. In between scrapping his various ideas he had, of course, been watching various romantic dramas for inspiration. The only problem—or one of—was that he had no real personal experiences to draw on. His romantic compass was basically built on dramas and movies and those didn't always depict healthy displays of affection so how was he supposed to portray himself as a loving boyfriend?
After finally settling for an idea that he didn't hate, the logistics of it all became a bit of a nuisance. Having to be actor, director, and camera man was proving to harder than initially anticipated even with the equipment that he had borrowed requisitioned from the agency. With some experimenting Haemin found the angles he needed for his vision and prayed that no one he knew would be walking by as he shot the video.
Deep breath. You can do this.
He placed the tripod on the bench, adjusting it until it looked to be about eye level of someone sat down observing the spring blooms in the park. This was romantic right? Making sure that he wasn't in frame, Haemin pressed the remote in his coat pocket before adopting the persona of cute, fresh, first love.
"Noona! I'm sorry, did you wait long?" Haemin called out in a cheery voice, walking into frame and towards the camera, one arm hidden behind his back. "I'm sorry for being late but…" He trailed off and smiled sweetly as he brought out a small bouquet of flowers and presented them to the camera. "I saw these as I was coming here and I was reminded of you so I had to get them. Aren't they beautiful?" Placing the bouquet on the bench, Haemin slowly turned the tripod to simulate a head turning as he sat down next to 'his girlfriend', leaning in closer as if to share a secret "But you know, noona is the most beautiful flower that I've ever seen."
Haemin ended the recording with a boyish grin before collapsing in an embarrassed heap. He really hoped that this would be worth it. God, his ears were burning.

Chapter 10: Wave
Tumblr media
A lengthy harpoon tipped in the sharpest iron slipped through Jongho’s fingers and clattered to the deck of the ATEEZ.
“Seonghwa?” He whispered his name into the fog of gunpowder settling over the squirming carcass, and only raised his voice when no answer came. “Seonghwa—?”
A scream from the men who were closest to him prompted the master-at-arms to run full speed across the deck while they explained.
“It ate him— the kraken, it’s alive! Do something!”
Pushed forward by the sailors, Jongho’s heart stopped in his chest. It wasn’t because of the kraken picking itself up off the ship in front of him, but the horror of what the men had just reported concerning Seonghwa.
Jongho snatched a harpoon from the closest man and pointed it at the beast. He refused to lose anyone else from their ranks.
He wouldn’t stand there helpless this time, no matter what the crew said happened.
“Spit him out or I’ll open you up!” He screamed at the monster, noticing the way it trembled as it defended its head with the remaining limbs, seemingly retreating from him. “Come here, coward!”
Just three seconds later, Jongho discovered the reason for the shaking as the kraken froze in place and a blade suddenly shot upwards through its head.
Not a word was spoken amongst the gathered crew as they watched a filthy Seonghwa slice his way out of the beast’s mouth and finish the kraken for good.
He needed no help from their harpoons.
Finally dropping his weapon and getting to his feet somewhat shakily, the exhausted boatswain glanced up at the shocked onlookers and muttered something unintelligible.
“Come again? We didn’t hear you,” said Jongho in something of a daze as Seonghwa wiped his mouth clear of slime to try again.
“I said, can someone get me a rag please? This is disgusting.”
Laughing both at the comedy of it all and from sheer relief, Jongho sent Dooeun to find something to wipe Seonghwa off with and instructed the rest of the men to begin removing the kraken from the ship completely.
“I don’t understand, how did you survive?” He inquired when Seonghwa was a bit cleaner, still dabbing at his coat but safely seated on a barrel to the side while tentacles were tossed overboard and fires were put out.
“Honestly, I’m not sure myself,” the older pirate sighed, wiping off his sword now as best as he could. “All I knew was that it was very dark and very hot in the kraken’s beak and I wasn’t keen on being swallowed so I just… started stabbing until I could see the light again.”
Jongho exhaled shakily and squeezed Seonghwa’s arm, unable to resist some physical affection given how close of a call it had been.
“Don’t worry,” Seonghwa tutted at him, pulling the pirate into a proper hug. “After Admiral Kim, the Haemin army, and a legion of demons tried to kill me, this kraken was not about to finish the job.”
“Didn’t the Master of that slave island try to kill you, too?” Jongho pointed out with a mischievous smile, voice partially muffled with his face buried in a clean patch of Seonghwa’s coat.
“Well, yes, I suppose he did. You’re right, I forgot one. Anybody else?”
“Not that I can think of,” Jongho reported in his matter-of-fact way. “Though you have certainly been threatened plenty of other times.”
“Some of those times by Hongjoong and Mingi, early on,” Seonghwa reminisced, fingers curling around his whistle as both of them remembered who they used to be.
Jongho bit his lip and thought back to first meeting the crew, his own doubts and fears, and the number of things that had changed in just over a year.
“We should get moving again,” he brought the conversation back to business, clearing his throat. There were still two officers to find.
“Not in this condition,” Seonghwa pushed back, gently but firmly. “There’s still a bit of carcass to take care of. I think that’s the inside of the kraken’s throat over there.”
Visibly going green at the gills, he stood to get some air and went to find a willing participant to remove it.
It seemed much quieter now without the yelling of battle and the bellowing of the beast, but for the screams of injured men and the bustle of their surgeon tending to them.
“How are we doing with the wounded, San?” Jongho asked as he approached, counting the fallen in his view, scattered across the decks, under the fallen mast, and hanging, lifeless, in the rigging.
“If you could help transport some of these men to the infirmary,” San grunted, busy trying to press a bone back into place. “There are a few amidships without fatal injuries, they can be moved.”
Making his way through the groaning crowd, Jongho was surprised to see Yunho and Mingi among them.
Nearly slipping on a puddle of blood just in front of him, he quickened his pace to meet the pair and check on them. “Are you alr—“
“I’m fine, really,” Mingi protested from where he sat, pushing Yunho away. “Give the bandage to someone who needs it, I’m not even bleeding.”
And he was correct, but it didn’t stop Jongho from grimacing at the suction cup shaped bruises littering Mingi’s legs where his pant leg had been pulled up to see the damage.
“Get yourselves to the infirmary, both of you,” Jongho ordered, lifting a man whose head was bleeding profusely to guide him down lest he become disoriented and fall overboard.
After a few trips up and down the decks in the same fashion, everyone who could be saved had been given a bed or a spot of clean deck to lie on while San, Hanbyeol, and the pair of crewmen they’d conscripted to help ran around tending to as many as possible.
Jongho stood to the side while San checked on the last man he had brought below from the main deck only to discover he was too late.
“Jongho,” San sighed tiredly, standing straight and shaking his head. “This man is already dead.”
“What?” The master-at-arms gasped, taking a closer look to realise that it was true, and that the unlucky rigger’s eyes were closed in death, not exhaustion. “But I could see no wound—“
“His neck is broken, he shouldn’t have been moved,” San reported quickly, gently lifting the body to remove it from the table.
“No, but I could be sure he…” Jongho trailed off in shock, burning the image of the man’s face into his mind. San was right, this man had been gone already before the kraken was even finished. “He must’ve died on impact.”
“We can only hope so,” came San’s agreement, clearing off the space for the next patient, a gunner who had nearly been crushed by his own cannon. “Go on and help throw the carcass overboard, Jongho. We’ve got things handled here.”
Though he knew it wasn’t true, and San could use all the help he could get, Jongho recognised his mistake and trekked up into the sunlight dejectedly.
Deckhands were hard at work scrubbing away the debris, and Yunho was with them again, also sent away from the infirmary for taking up space most likely.
“What are we going to do about this?” Jongho sighed as he approached him, both staring at the fallen topgallant yard, swinging off the foremast in the most unnatural way.
“We won’t be going anywhere fast until it’s fixed,” Yunho mused, catching a section of damaged rigging that was thrown down to him. “And last I checked there’s no spare timber.”
“Then the Stardust must be informed,” Jongho reminded him. “And we’ll have to meet at Ama to recover.”
Exhaling his frustration through his nose, Yunho kicked aside some loose planks and pointed to where their boatswain was overseeing the carcass cleanup. “You’d best inform Seonghwa. He’ll be upset, but we’ve already fallen off our pace and lost all speed.”
Returning to Seonghwa’s side, Jongho relayed everything to him before leaving him to think on it and helping the men secure chains to the massive kraken head with the aim of hauling it overboard.
“Surely we haven’t lost that much time?” Seonghwa protested, yelling down over the railing as Jongho lowered himself and five others in the longboat, intending to pull the carcass off the ship and into the sea. “We already have a strong tailwind again, and we can sail with two masts.”
“And what about the injured?” Jongho countered. “It’s not good, hyung. San has his hands full, and there won’t be enough gunners to man the cannons if we run into trouble again.”
Feeling guilty even as he watched Seonghwa storm off to check their powder reserves, Jongho focused on the task at hand and secured his grip on the chains.
“Heave!” He instructed, and all six of them strained together, hauling the carcass until it was flush against the rail without managing to tip it over the edge. “Hold on tight, don’t let go!”
While the men stayed firm, Jongho released his hold on the chain and took up the oars, using all his strength to propel the longboat backwards, kraken in tow.
The entire boat groaned from the strain and one of the men lost his grip, sweaty hands winning out.
“Just a bit more!”
Gritting his teeth, Jongho rowed another arm’s length back and felt the lines slacken as the carcass finally gave way and tumbled over the side.
All the men gasped at the sudden splash and released their chains, watching the kraken be sucked down under the waves, limp tentacles and all. A strong current had formed underneath it.
“Careful!” Jongho warned them, lifting the oars out of the water lest they be pulled in as well. A couple of the sailors were leaning over the side of the boat to watch the monster sink to the ocean floor, but the longboat was following suit, dragged forward in growing current. “Don’t fight it, just brace yourself!”
Spun around frighteningly quickly, the boat slammed into the hull of the ATEEZ, chipping its planks but not injuring anyone.
Realising they were about to be pulled away again by the expanding whirlpool, Jongho instructed the men to climb up and go onboard.
Just as he gripped the railing of the ATEEZ himself, the master-at-arms looked back to see the entire boat be sucked under the waves.
It popped up a moment later, too damaged and far away to be worth pursuing.
“Waste of a longboat,” Jongho muttered, flexing his shoulders to alleviate the soreness beginning to show itself while Seonghwa approached him with a grim frown.
“We have a problem,” he reported curtly, opening his mouth to continue when a sudden force that felt more like a collision threw them all off their feet.
Conversation forgotten, they ran to the port bow to see what the ATEEZ could’ve possibly hit only to find more swirling water, evidence of a second current. As they stood there, confused, the entire ship began to spin slowly.
“We’re stuck between two currents,” Jongho realised. “And they definitely weren’t there before.”
“A growing whirlpool,” Yunho supplied as he descended the rigging. “Even three masts won’t be able to get us out of this without a good helmsman.”
“But Mingi’s injured,” Seonghwa reminded them, exasperated. “And beside that, San’s still preoccupied in the infirmary, isn’t he?”
Jongho nodded and braced himself for more bad news.
“We’re split between jobs ourselves but I could really use his help,” Seonghwa groaned, turning to view the now tilted horizon. “See? We’re listing.”
Jongho’s eyes widened as he realised what that meant. Seonghwa went on, shaking his head.
“Somewhere below, we’ve sprung a leak.”
___
Evening caught up to the Black Crow about an hour before reaching Ama.
There wasn’t much visible through the portholes, only pink wisps of cloud against the pale blue sky, set on fire by a sinking sun just out of view.
But the ornate captain’s cabin caught the light in the stern-facing windows and displayed it in shadows on the floor, shadows which Head Navigator Kang watched move as the hours rolled by, numb inside despite the situation.
“I should have seen it coming,” Kim spat, still fuming despite being chained to his chair all day as they sailed to join the prison ships.
“Four ships on the horizon, in enemy territory, after a survivor told us the previous navy rescue ship was ambushed? Pardon me for saying so, Admiral, but I think we all saw it coming,” Kang responded dryly from where he was chained to another chair on the other side of the cabin.
At least he was facing the bookshelf, where he had read the spine of every novel there several times over as they continued southwest for hours.
“No, not the Haemin ships,” Kim corrected, impatience in his voice. “I should’ve seen the mutiny coming. The pirate has been known to have a silver tongue, and I let the lieutenants spend too much time with him. Byun has been acting strangely recently, and so has Park ever since reading that intelligence report on Haemin’s search for Prince Seonghwa.”
At this, Kang couldn’t help but sigh and lower his head. “I have something to confess.”
For the first time in awhile, Admiral Kim turned his head to take a good look at the navigator and nodded him on.
“I’m sorry, I… it was me who told Lieutenant Park about the Assassin.”
The Admiral’s eyebrows shot up in betrayal but before he could utter a single curse, Kang went on, “I didn’t mean to! He got me drunk and I didn’t know how much of a royalist he was. Apparently Byun had mentioned a longboat was missing, but I didn’t know he’d take the information to the wardroom in private, I swear it.”
“I’ve never known you to drink to excess, Dongyeop,” Kim scoffed, using his proper name. It sounded like a thinly veiled threat. “Don’t tell me I’ve lost you as well. It was always the two of us, wasn’t it?”
“I’m on your side,” Kang insisted, straightening his back and looking the Admiral in the eyes. He may be in mourning but he was still a gentleman. He had to have composure even now.
“Still,” he went on. “You and I both know targeting the prince was not your wisest move. Royalty is royalty.”
“Then the fact that Prince Seonghwa just so happened to be friends with your son is, what, a coincidence?” The Admiral chuckled sardonically. “I never should have told you my intentions of taking out the prince.”
Flinching at the mention of Yeosang, Kang bit his lip and rebutted, “Well you certainly shouldn’t have waited for the assassin to appear after the fact.”
“If not for the mutiny, we would’ve been fine!” Kim shot back, enraged again as his thoughts returned to the present. “Yes, we’d take damage but releasing the pirate to wreak havoc on enemy ships has been successful so far. He fights like a demon in the flesh, Kang, surely you’ve seen him?”
The navigator swallowed and shook his head. He couldn’t bring himself to visit the prisoner, even as much as he wanted to deep down inside.
He couldn’t look the boy in the eyes and run a knife over his skin as punishment for turning his own son into a pirate like he swore he would, like Kim had given him permission to.
And it wasn’t because he was above violence where it concerned Yeosang’s innocence.
No, the navigator knew he would be tempted when he saw the Pirate King to simply ask if it was true. If Yeosang really had chosen to be a pirate on his own. How quickly he had changed. Whether he mentioned his father and his life at Bundam Lake… or whether he had become a different person than the loyal boy he had raised long before ever setting foot on a pirate ship.
Strangely, the fire had gone out of Kim when he spoke again, in a whisper, “Hongjoong is a demon, to me anyway. So now I suppose we’ve both lost sons to him.”
Eyes brimming with tears, Kang looked away and tried not to think about it.
As much as he wanted the blame to lie with the Haemin soldiers who had sunk the ship, or the pirate captain who had manipulated him, he knew losing Yeosang was his own fault. He had been the one to insist his son board the Indeok.
“Haemin can’t restrain the pirate for long,” Kang remarked bitterly, watching the last rays of sunlight hit the floor. “He’ll escape as soon as he pleases.”
“No matter,” Kim swore, teeth gritted with resolve. “His usefulness has run its course.”
Before any discussion of escape plans could continue, the door opened for a trio of enemy soldiers, one of them Kang recognised as the captain who had forced their surrender.
Opening the door brought the noise of the main deck into the cabin, and from the sound of things, the Crow was being moored already.
“We’ve arrived in the port of Ama,” the leader told them redundantly in a heavy accent before addressing the two men who had come with him. “Bring the Admiral to the brig with the others to receive assignments. Leave the cuffs on the Head Navigator, we can ransom him.”
What an incredible twist of fate.
While it didn’t surprise Kang that a navigator wasn’t needed by the Haemin military in the middle of a war, he couldn’t get past the irony that he would now be subjected to the very disgrace Yeosang had undergone as a child; being held captive like nothing more than an object to be traded off for gold.
The Haemin captain took him by the arm and led him and the Admiral out to the main deck together, collecting information for the ransom as they went. “Do you have family?”
Salt in a rotting wound.
“A daughter,” Kang responded quietly, still trying to get his stiff legs under him. “She’s married and living in Tae Gyungkaai now.”
“Write down her address,” the soldier instructed. “And if you lie, we’ll have you both killed.”
An immense weariness settled in the navigator’s bones as he took the pen handed to him and hesitated a moment.
It took no more threatening from the enemy to give them what they needed, and Kang resigned himself right then and there.
His part in this war was over, and possibly his career as well if the Admiralty took offense at his surrender.
But he had already lost a wife and son, and he was not about to lose his only daughter.
A courier disembarked to bring the ransom note to Yeseul’s door, and the group detoured to the brig so Admiral Kim could be chained up alongside his traitor lieutenants.
Kang couldn’t help but notice the Pirate King in the midst of some common sailors, secured to the deck under bilboes with the long iron bar restraining their legs.
Despite his no doubt painful condition, the pirate looked to be bored more than anything, and the two men flanking him, both with bandages over their faces, equally so. One of them stretched and whispered in the pirate’s ear, and seeing him return a smile set something off inside the navigator.
“You!” Kang growled from the depths of his bitterness, pulling away from the soldiers who escorted him and charging the pirate, taking him by the throat and relishing his surprise. “You corrupted him. I hope they keelhaul you, you dirty—”
Before he could commence with his threats, the bandaged man to the right of the pirate single-handedly ripped the bar restraining the group off its hinges and tackled the navigator to the ground while the Haemin soldiers caught up.
Struggling to his knees, the Pirate King coughed once to regain his voice and then signalled his bandaged companion to cease fighting.
“What kind of parent are you?” Hongjoong scoffed, clearly aware of who he was and who he referred to. “Wouldn’t you rather he live a pirate than die a soldier?”
Misty eyed again despite himself, Kang opened his mouth to retort but was suddenly released.
The bandaged man who relinquished him was beginning to lose his bandages, sweat from the heat and exertion loosening them so that more of his face was visible.
The navigator’s eyes were drawn to him, the familiarity of his gaze, the shape of his eyebrows and the arch of his nose. Eyes widening, the sailor clamped a hand over the left side of his face to hide it, but for a moment…
For a moment Kang could’ve sworn he saw a birthmark he recognised.
But it was impossible.
“It can’t be,” he whispered to himself, handed off to the Haemin soldiers before he could investigate.
It couldn’t be Yeosang. Yeosang was dead.
Was he so far gone in the misery of his mind that he saw the face of his son everywhere?
He was led down the docks and into the town, much more forcefully now that they expected him to be violent, and put up in a room on the second floor of some local shack under house arrest while they waited for a ship to conduct the trade off for the ransom in the morning.
His guards laughed and pointed fingers while he sat there muttering.
“It can’t be. It can’t be him.”
Kang wrapped his arms around himself and lowered his head until it hit the table in front of him.
“Forgive me, Yeosang.”
___
Despite knowing they couldn’t keep the three of them restrained having witnessed Yeosang’s abilities, the Haemin soldiers returned him to the bilboes and locked everyone up again.
Wooyoung was watching Hongjoong get his breathing under control with worry on his face.
“You alright?”
“Fine,” their captain assured them quickly, coughing again to rid himself of the new hoarseness in his voice. “They always go for the throat…”
“Strange, I never took him for the physical type,” Wooyoung admitted, rubbing Hongjoong’s back without letting his chains interfere.
“For months I’ve been down here and he never once paid me a visit,” came the murmured response. “I think he must feel especially guilty now.”
“He knows,” Yeosang whispered, a new hollowness in his eyes as he turned to meet Wooyoung’s.
“No. He suspects,” Hongjoong corrected in a low tone, making sure there was no chance of Admiral Kim overhearing as he was chained up with the lieutenants on the other side of the deck. “He’ll never be sure until he sees your face.”
Yeosang ran his fingers along the bandages, pressing them tighter, before ever so quietly insisting, “It’ll drive him mad.”
Wooyoung wanted to reach across and squeeze his hand, but Kim was looking at them, and it was back to the status quo of not drawing attention to themselves.
“What a surprise that we have the pleasure of one another’s company yet again,” the Admiral quipped sarcastically when he’d gathered the courage.
Wooyoung kept his eyes down to maintain the façade of a random, bored sailor completely uninvolved with the pirate who smiled slyly and responded.
“I told you I’d take you down with me.”
The memory of those words echoing through the prison cell on Namhae haunted Wooyoung.
“This imprisonment was not of your making,” Kim snapped, unwilling to joke around any longer.
“Perhaps not, but I’ll gain the upper hand,” Hongjoong promised him, equally serious. “And then your imprisonment will be.”
The Admiral knew it to be true and didn’t speak again, only glancing in their direction when a soldier made the rounds with food for them.
The sight of it made Wooyoung’s stomach rumble, even though it was only a measly slab of hardtack, as he hadn’t eaten all day and wasn’t sure whether the soldiers would be so cruel as to withhold food from their prisoners.
“Lads, I think the ruse is up,” said Hongjoong sympathetically as he chewed on his own meal and watched the pair of them struggle to eat theirs without unwrapping their bandages.
“What’s the point? Father has gone ashore,” Yeosang grumbled, readily removing the lower half and eating shamelessly.
Wooyoung followed along, in no danger of the Admiral discovering their true identities anyway while he was busy focusing on his food.
The man ate like he’d never gone hungry a day in his life, and Wooyoung could tell this was the longest his belly had been empty, the first time the tables had truly been turned on him.
As much as he wanted to be the reason for such a downfall, he knew patience was of the essence.
Within the hour, Hongjoong had fallen asleep and Yeosang was not far behind.
Some of the men had taken to singing softly but there was nothing else to stay awake for until assignments were decided the next day, so Wooyoung leaned his head on his captain’s shoulder and let the tunes lull him to sleep.
It was a shaking sensation that woke him up.
Morning had come quicker than expected, accompanied by the distinct feeling of being lower in the shallows than when he’d fallen asleep. Byun had either taken it upon himself to keep a watch or had awoken out of habit, so Wooyoung waved to catch his attention and asked what was going on.
“Tide must’ve gone out,” came the low voiced response.
Wooyoung reached across his sleeping captain to shake Yeosang, the tallest of the three, and naturally succeeded in waking both of them instead.
“What can you see?” He asked the navigator, who was still rubbing the sleep from his eyes before turning to peek out the porthole behind him.
“A ship is here for the ransom,” he noted. “Father must be aboard. And the tide is… strangely low. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Crow’s keel is now almost touching the sea floor.”
“No tide then,” Hongjoong muttered. “Something unnatural.”
“The ship has gone,” Yeosang reported a moment later, sliding back down the hull wall with a sigh. “How long do you think we have until they give us assignments? What if they separate us?”
Shaking his head, Hongjoong leaned back to rest his eyes and checked his internal clock. “The Haemin navy doesn’t appear to be very prompt, but now that the Navigator’s ransom is underway…”
“They’ll deal with us next,” Wooyoung concluded darkly. “And escaping just became more complicated with a certain someone chained up across from us.”
As if he knew he was being spoken of, Admiral Kim lifted his head and stretched, scooting as far away from his traitor lieutenants as he could with the bilboes binding them all.
Yeosang sighed a near imperceptible sigh again through his nose and turned to face them both. “The question then is whether we include him.”
“If we don’t, he’ll rat us out,” Hongjoong reminded them. “Besides, he could be useful to us later on.”
Yeosang agreed and began discussing the specifics of the brewing plan with Hongjoong, and Wooyoung let them debate over some of the finer details, too anxious to think about much else than the unsettling shallowness of the harbour.
“It’s a grave sign. Something bad is coming,” one of the common soldiers muttered as he craned his neck to see the ocean himself.
“Something bad?” Wooyoung repeated quietly, mostly to himself.
The old salt turned to face him and nodded vigorously, delving into the tale.
“Once I met a rogue wave just off one of these outlying islands. It punched a hole right through the bow and sent our ship to the bottom of the sea. If it had reached land, it would’ve gained so much height that the destruction would’ve been indescribable. Imagine the biggest swell you’ve seen increased tenfold.”
Wooyoung swallowed and looked away. “You felt the shake too?” He muttered in a low voice, trying not to imagine what might be headed for them. “I thought it was just the ship but if the sea floor moved—”
“I did,” the old sailor confirmed, distracted with his futile attempts at pulling free of the chains. “And it’s a grave sign, all of it… we’ll drown right here in this prison if we don’t escape.”
Patience dwindling, Wooyoung patted Hongjoong’s shoulder and interrupted.
“I think we’ve lingered long enough, Captain. There’s no more time for pleasantries; tell me you’ve got a plan.”
“We’re just not agreed on which ship to take—” Yeosang began to explain before being cut off.
“This one,” Hongjoong was adamant. “The Black Crow.”
Sparing a moment’s thought, Wooyoung chose his side. “I’m with Hongjoong on this. We don’t have time for anything else.”
The 140 gun power of the Crow herself aside, it was the likeliest of any ship in the harbour to survive whatever was headed for them.
Yeosang hadn’t yet caught on.
“What do you mean—”
The increasing sound of a distant roaring answered the question for him.
As they all listened in a tense pause of silence, another much closer noise took over.
A rhythmic clanging eventually overtaken by the sounds of people fleeing the harbour.
“Alarm bells,” Byun realised, leaning to see the masses leaving for high ground through the porthole. “Sea goddess help us… they’re leaving us to die.”
“Come on, grab the bar and push together,” Yeosang prompted, gripping it tightly and in three pulls again knocking it off its hinges.
As a hundred watching sailors clamoured for him to free them next, he went around one by one and instructed them how to smash the lock most efficiently.
Wooyoung followed Hongjoong up to the main deck with a shrewd eye on the Admiral’s every move, fairly certain he wouldn’t interfere now with his own life on the line but wary nonetheless.
A dark shape obscured the sun from shining and at first he thought it to be a cloud, but on examining more closely Wooyoung realised it was a flock of birds, escaping farther inland as if they knew every tree on the coast would be wiped out.
“I need all hands aloft,” Hongjoong ordered, and Wooyoung was shocked that he wouldn’t encourage them to run for high ground as quickly as possible, or at least deploy the longboats to row them to land.
“Captain, but the wave—“
“Crowd on every last scrap of sail we have,” Hongjoong continued, and the men were following orders no matter how confused they must be, swayed by his firmness. “Topsails, gallants, royals— everything. We put to sea and sail directly for the wave.”
“Captain, have you gone mad?” Wooyoung finally got a word in, trying to keep the panic out of his voice.
As he climbed to the quarterdeck, Hongjoong threw the comment over his shoulder, “Wooyoung, everyone knows I went mad ages ago.”
This was no time to joke, and as Wooyoung followed him up the stairs he let out a scoff. “Then I think they use the phrase too liberally. Back then, stunts like this were risky ventures. This one…” He struggled to find the words. “It— this is suicide.”
“Yes, we’ll be washed ashore,” Hongjoong admitted as he snapped around finally to face him. “But at least we won’t be smashed with the full force of this wave and, with luck, won’t capsize when it hits.”
Wooyoung sighed and began shaking his head, knowing already there was no convincing his captain to abandon ship.
“Now, either help me or get below,” Hongjoong composed himself and took the steering wheel in hand to turn them out to sea.
Lieutenant Byun called up from where the riggers were speaking with him, “Stunsails too?”
“No time,” Hongjoong answered simply, probably not wanting anyone to be washed away while attaching extra booms to the yardarms. “At least the wind is abaft the beam.”
Wooyoung held still for a moment and realised he was right, they were beginning to move much faster now that the capstan had been lifted and the sails were up with the wind filling them.
“Your luck hasn’t run out yet,” the first lieutenant chuckled softly before clutching the rail for the speed to increase.
“Yeosang is still down there, he may need help,” Wooyoung said, feeling very distant from himself.
His captain turned to him and for a moment everything was alright, there was no monstrous wave bearing down on them imminently, and Wooyoung believed the three of them would be fine.
“Go to him,” Hongjoong nodded, a sad half smile breaking his confidence for a quick moment unseen by all the other crew. “I’ll see you soon.”
That was the end of it, and as he hurried below, despair settled in the pit of Wooyoung’s stomach.
Only a handful of men had been freed from their chains, and Yeosang’s hands were raw as he pulled yet another bar off its hinges to allow a group of sailors to escape.
“Wooyoung!” He exclaimed, relieved, when he saw him. “What’s going on up there?”
“We’re going towards the wave before it gets high enough to smash us into the town,” he answered succinctly, doing his best to help another row of men break free from the bilboes.
Yeosang offered no comment on the insanity of the plan, but wiped the blood from his hands on the front of his uniform and went to free a few more men without showing the pain.
They had worked at a feverish pace for a mere three minutes by the time the ocean surged beneath them.
The pair could only cling to each other and the side of the hull as the Crow was lifted with the rolling wave and sped back to shore.
An open porthole began spilling sea water into the hold, and the men underneath it coughed at the sudden intrusion and screamed for someone to help them.
The room was quickly flooding so Wooyoung attempted to bail as much water as he could while Yeosang gripped the iron bar and tried his hardest to get the sailors loose. Those who had been freed earlier chose to flee to the upper decks rather than join in.
A second wave suddenly slammed into them full force and the entire room tipped onto its side. The flow of water picked up speed.
“Is this everyone?” Wooyoung yelled over the rushing of the ocean.
“I already freed all the crew in the brig,” Yeosang shouted back, struggling with the bilboes that restrained the final group of prisoners.
Wooyoung slogged through quickly rising knee-deep water to help him, noticing that the men would be completely underwater in a matter of minutes if they couldn’t.
“Hurry, please!” One of them blubbered, both tears and seawater rolling down his cheeks.
“I’m trying,” Yeosang answered as calmly as he could, struggling more and more desperately to get a good hold on the bar with slippery hands that began to shake from the pressure.
A forceful hit from Wooyoung finally smashed it.
Without even a word of thanks, the crewmen stumbled up and the hatch swung shut behind them.
“Where did that come from?” Yeosang joked with surprising composure, and Wooyoung barely heard him, too busy heaving breaths as he waded through the now waist-deep water.
After wrestling with the hatch to the upper decks a moment, all strength left his limbs.
“It looks like the end,” Wooyoung started to answer, and realised halfway through that he was suddenly choking on a sob. “After everything we went through just to be wiped out like this…”
Yeosang continued to try to push open the door but his eyes were on Wooyoung, telling him he was listening.
“I wanted at least for all three of us to be together,” Wooyoung added quietly. “No one deserves to die alone.”
Abandoning the hatch, Yeosang took both his hands and raised his voice to be heard over the sound of the ocean.
“We’re not going to die Wooyoung, you hear me?” He sounded startlingly sure of himself. “Look, don’t let go and we’ll make it out of this. We’ll find the others.”
Wooyoung didn’t know where this newfound optimism came from but he squeezed Yeosang’s hand and nodded.
Together they put all their strength into opening the hatch, and at the moment when all Wooyoung could hear were his own gasps for breath, it finally gave way.
A torrent of sea water rained down on them.
___
Testing his injured leg hardly reassured Mingi that it was ready for use, but the lack of space was too great for him to lay around the infirmary, so he rose and hobbled towards the main deck, only to be stopped by none other than the surgeon himself.
“Where do you think you’re going? You need a splint on that leg.”
“Don’t you need my table for a patient awaiting surgery?” Mingi pointed out, glancing around at the very full infirmary area.
“The last one is done,” San gestured to a woman recovering from a sizeable wood splinter that had embedded in her arm during the fight.
“You work faster than I remember,” Mingi muttered as he was pushed back into a free chair.
“I got a lot of practice on that Haemin ship,” San reminded him, taking the tentacle-bruised leg in hand and pressing carefully to check the extent of the damage before freezing in place and giving his patient a worried look. “How long has your leg been swollen like this?”
Mingi thought back. “I’m not sure… probably since the kraken squeezed it?”
“Crushed it,” San corrected, pressing the other leg for a comparison. “Mingi, there’s some serious pressure building in your leg, it’s a wonder you can walk at all.”
Having no response, he let the surgeon stretch out his leg to poke and prod him some more, focusing on breathing evenly and resisting the pain.
As San ran to retrieve his books and medical scrolls, Mingi watched Hanbyeol and another surgeon’s mate methodically stitch up each canvas shroud which contained the dead and grimaced at the indifference and emotional exhaustion with which they went about their routine.
San returned and held up a chart in Mingi’s face as he hurriedly explained what he had discovered.
“You must’ve bruised your muscle or ruptured a blood vessel or something, but— lie back now— I think I can save the leg if I open you up.”
“If you what?” Mingi shrieked, rousing a few other patients from their drug-induced sleep before bowing apologetically and following San’s instructions.
He babbled on with his diagnosis and the words took a moment to sink in.
“I’ll have to make an incision here,” he tried to be gentle with the increasingly painful leg. “Otherwise the pressure will build and, Mingi, if you think walking is difficult now… you could be paralysed by tomorrow. How would you like to lose both your sight and the use of your limb in such a short time? And I’ve had enough amputations today, so if you’ll kindly drink this.”
The surgeon handed him a flask of whiskey to gulp down as carefully as he could without choking while supine, and the rest of the procedure was a blur after that.
The boards that made up the ceiling swam in Mingi’s vision and he missed twice while trying to chew down on the piece of leather San was putting in his mouth, almost biting the surgeon’s own hand.
Feeling the edge of a knife touch him just barely through a growing numbness, he squeezed his eyes shut and fought down the panic.
He repeated in his mind Hongjoong’s instructions on pain management, passed down to him from Eden’s words and probably from another pirate’s before.
Move as little as possible. Don’t increase the pain to yourself. Focus on each breath. Separate mind from body.
Show no weakness.
Show no fear.
Your will must not be broken.
Only he wasn’t in a jail cell somewhere, he was in San’s capable hands. Aided by the alcohol, his imagination was drifting into a peaceful place.
He felt blood drip down his leg and lifted his head to look.
The sight was so shocking, the world went dark soon after.
A sweet humming voice and the feeling of his arm being rubbed finally roused Mingi a short time later.
Squinting in the lowlight, he registered San smiling down at him and groaned at the returning pain.
“How did Yunho bear a complete amputation?” He croaked, mostly to himself.
“The same way you did,” the surgeon answered matter-of-factly. “He passed out.”
Sitting up so suddenly he almost smacked his head on a swinging lantern to check his leg, Mingi was relieved to find it in one piece, albeit stitched up grotesquely where the entire compartment had been exposed.
“Congratulations on keeping your leg,” San reported. “It will be a couple of weeks before it heals.”
“Can I walk?” Mingi asked quickly, feeling the return of that sinking feeling of being useless while he recovered.
“I’m not sure how soon you’ll be on your feet—“
“Well, let’s try it,” Mingi cut him off, eager to take any opportunity.
San sighed but helped lift the quartermaster off the table nonetheless, steadying him while he balanced on his own, and catching him when he stumbled to the side at a sudden tilting of the ship.
As Mingi looked on, all the bottles and scrolls gathered on San’s desk turned sideways and clattered to the floor, and even the lanterns had swung the wrong direction.
“I think I’m still dizzy,” he admitted with a sigh. “The table is moving.”
“No that’s not just you,” San hummed curiously, letting Mingi stand on his own while he picked up the mess and returned items to his desk. “Everything really is sliding around down here.”
The answer as to why came in the form of their master-at-arms, hurrying into the infirmary on a mission.
“Jongho! Did we hit rough seas?” asked San.
“Something like that,” Jongho replied briefly, turning to the patient. “We need Mingi to take the helm.”
“He’s still injured,” San argued with a scoff. “Can’t Seonghwa—?”
“Seonghwa’s busy in the bilge deck with a leak issue, and Mingi is the best at steering anyway,” Jongho responded quickly, eyes still fixed on Mingi. “Unless you’d prefer to be pounded by a whirlpool until there are a dozen more leaks to deal with.”
Eyes widening, Mingi followed Jongho to the quarterdeck, stumbling here and there and clinging to his hand to make sure he was going in the right direction.
“Jongho, I’m not sure you want me doing this,” he confessed as he grabbed the wheel from the terrified crew member who’d held onto it previously. “I’m still a fair bit drunk on that whiskey.”
With a grip that took the edge off, Jongho squeezed his shoulder and refused to let go, remaining by his side while Mingi turned the wheel two points to starboard and felt the reason for the crew’s panic beneath him.
As if it had a mind of its own, the ship yawed sharply to one side and then the other, disrupting the heading and nearly throwing Mingi off.
Despite the fog in his brain, he knew one current would win over the other and clung to the helm until the prow settled on one direction; towards a nearby reef.
He knew this was the reason his navigation had been needed, a skill honed on the rocky shores of Namhae in his youth, and fixed his feet to the quarterdeck in anticipation.
“Hurry down!” He yelled up to Yunho and the other crewmen who clung to the rigging, knowing if they fell into a maelstrom there was no coming back out.
The path was cluttered with obstacles, and Mingi cursed his swimming head each time the ATEEZ’s hull chipped on contact with a part of the reef.
“Where did all these currents come from?” Mingi grunted, pulling the wheel sharply to avoid hitting a visible stretch of coral head on.
He had always assumed Hongjoong meant it figuratively when he said the ocean was against him.
“Well, throwing the kraken overboard likely exacerbated the problem,” Jongho admitted, taking Yunho’s hand in his free one when the rigger finally reached the quarterdeck. “I’ve no idea where the others came from.”
“There!” Yunho yelled, eyes noticing a ring of land ahead. “An atoll!”
“That’s our culprit,” Mingi agreed, trying and failing to direct the ship away, sweat forming on his brow from the effort of it. “Reef the sails, Yunho, we can’t risk running aground.”
The circular island protected a lagoon, with only a small channel opening it to the surrounding ocean, and while it looked to be the only stretch of sea free of currents, it would be difficult to manoeuvre into.
Carefully directing the wheel to port, Mingi squinted hard at the narrow opening for any undersea coral and, finding none, let the current behind them send the ATEEZ toward the atoll, turning starboard again just in time to pass through the sandbar gate.
Sighs of relief were heard all over the main deck as the pull of the ocean lessened and the ship safely sailed into the lagoon.
“Let’s drop anchor,” Jongho suggested. “There’s work to be done, and we’ll need to send word to the Stardust.”
A glance between Mingi and Yunho was enough for all three to be on board, and Yunho ran below to give Seonghwa the news.
San emerged from the infirmary, blood staining the entire front of his outfit and looked around innocently. “Are we here?”
Mingi just chuckled and shook his head, settling back into the chair Jongho had pulled up for him while the younger observed his expression.
“What is it?”
“Nothing,” Mingi waved it off. “Just how far we’ve come.”
Looking out at the crystal blue waters of the lagoon, Jongho didn’t seem to catch on right away so Mingi continued.
“San couldn’t patch a wound without consulting his medical books at first and now look at him. He heals and kills in the span of a few minutes. And he’s exceptional with both.”
“It’s true,” Seonghwa’s voice interjected as he climbed the stairs to meet them with Yunho trailing behind. “No one’s improved faster in every area than San has.”
Smiling down at the surgeon, Seonghwa offered a wave and a promise to explain what was happening to him before reporting what he’d been up to in the bow compartment.
“Sometime in the fight—”
“Which fight?” Yunho interjected sarcastically. “With the kraken or the whirlpools?”
“The kraken,” Seonghwa sighed in annoyance before continuing. “Sometime in the fight with the kraken, the bow compartment sprung a leak. And as you all know, despite the leak being just barely above the waterline and now safely patched, that’s a serious problem for us…”
“…Because it’s where our powder is stored,” Jongho finished for him, rubbing his face agitatedly as the problems continued to pile up.
“Wooyoung and Yeosang will have to wait,” Yunho spelled it out for them quietly. “Not like they haven’t waited long enough.”
Avoiding moving his leg unnecessarily, Mingi spread open the map on the table nearest him and tried to find their location. “We’re two days from Ama. If we can survive that long in enemy territory without ammunition, the Stardust will meet us there.”
Once San had joined them and been adequately filled in, Mingi penned a quick message to be sent via hawk to the other pirate ship and watched the bird shrink into a tiny speck in the sky, feeling as isolated as if he were sailing to a distant star.
“Will they have enough powder for the both of us?” He asked the gathered officers, each one with eyes fixed on the disappearing hawk.
“Whether they do or not,” Seonghwa answered in a quiet but deep voice. “We’re taking the Black Crow and getting our members back.”
___
If the first wave was disorienting, the second was an eruption of devastation.
The Black Crow was out of Hongjoong’s hands, flowing sideways down what was formerly a street and knocking down palm trees like pebbles.
Though the wave was more dangerous due to speed than height, the further inland they swept, the taller it became, and soon the decks were cleared of everyone but the pirate.
Knowing there was no more he could do, Hongjoong resolved to hide away in the lower decks with everyone else and struggled down to the hatch on the main deck.
For some reason it was stuck, and all his pulling wouldn’t budge it. The Crow tipping to one side sent water to engulf him, with only a moment to catch his breath before being sucked away.
Hongjoong’s hands found the side rail, and though the water grew murkier the father in they floated, it looked as if the hatch had finally given way, just seconds after he’d needed it to.
The water churned around him still, but by now his lungs were burning.
He couldn’t see clearly anymore what was ahead, how much longer they’d be under, or what, if anything, was left of Ama’s harbour town.
Beginning to feel faint, his grip became loosened.
Hongjoong let go.

A/N: Hello! Sorry this one is late, I was a bit busy seeing Ateez this week among other things (don’t get to use that excuse often)!! xD Follow my twitter tiny_tokki for all the footage~
I’ve also been looking forward to this chapter for quite awhile and there was a lot of research to do ahead of writing it so it’s been a long time coming, but I hope you all enjoy!
Also, as a complete coincidence there was actually a devastating eruption and tsunami in Tonga while this was in the drafts so if you’d like to help with disaster relief go donate to Pita Taufatofua's fundraiser on gofundme~

long nights with new friends

“Yeah, I can pick up the cake, it’s honestly no problem.”, I said, quickly putting my phone on speaker so I could continue washing the dishes. “Really?! Oh, you’re truly the best and I love you.”, Eunha on the other end of the line breathed a sigh of relief. I just chuckled. “I love you too. And don’t worry too much, the evening will go smoothly - and hey, it’s your birthday, you actually shouldn’t worry at all but have fun!” My friend sighed again, before agreeing with me and promising that she would try to relax a bit before the first guests would turn up.
“Okay, bye then - see you later, unnie!”, we both bid our goodbyes and I hung up. I squealed and pressed one hand over my chest when I turned around and spotted Skylar standing in the doorway of our tiny kitchen. She just began to grin when she saw my shocked face. “Oops, sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”, she said, sounding more pleased than apologetic, and nodded towards the phone in my hand, “Was that Eunha?” I nodded, quietly pocketing my phone and walking past her. “Yeah, she’s kinda stressed about her party tonight, so I offered to pick up her birthday cake. Means I have to leave a bit earlier, but that’s fine with me, I don’t mind.”, I explained, and Skylar rolled her eyes at me, half amused half exasperated. “Of course you don’t - you’re already finished with getting ready anyway, Miss I’m-always-on-time.” I just stuck out my tongue at her and shrugged. “Punctuality is a virtue. One you should maybe try one day too.”, I teased and - before she could retort anything - quickly ducked out of the kitchen, shutting the door of the little room we shared. Our apartment was tiny, but it was ours - we were both trainees and therefore not much at home anyway, plus we would move into a bigger dorm once we actually debuted anyway. For now, we had this teeny tiny flat together, paid for by our families until we were able to make our own money - which would hopefully be very soon.
Tumblr media
Two hours later, I jumped up the stairs to Eunha’s apartment, excited to finally see her again after a few weeks. Both our busy schedules made it impossible to see each other more often, but for her birthday, I had managed to get an evening off. Balancing both the cake and a gift for her in my hands, I fumbled for the doorbell and just seconds later, my friend flung open her door, crushing me into a bear hug - she was truly quite strong for such a petite woman. I yelped, trying to keep the cake as well as my gift from being squashed between our bodies, but began to grin from ear to ear. To finally see her again made me really happy, and as soon as I had managed to discard both the cake and her gift in the kitchen, I quickly hugged her back and wished her a happy birthday, playfully ruffling her dark hair. Even though she was older than me by one year, I was still taller - which wasn’t really surprising, I was taller than most Korean women. Eunha smiled and leaned into my side, inhaling deeply. “You smell nice. Is that the perfume I got you for your birthday last year? Oh, by the way - the other guest hopefully show up soon too.”, she said, and I nodded. “Yep, it‘s your perfume. And who’s coming anyway? Anyone I know?”, I asked while Eun Ha finally ripped open my gift, squealing in excitement when she saw I had gotten her the new SHINee album, and the signed version at that. “YOU’RE THE BEST!”, she said and hugged me again, before answering: “Mhm, besides Namjoo, I don’t think so. I only invited other trainees from the 1Million dance studio as well as some old friends from High School.” I just nodded again, before helping her set up the last of her birthday decorations on the little rooftop of her apartment building, where her little birthday party would take place.
Over the next hour, the other guests arrived one after another, bringing gifts, some bottles of alcohol as well as more snacks with them. The new SHINee album was playing in the background while everyone talked animatedly, Eunha doing her best to include me in most conversations. Not knowing anyone besides her and our mutual friend Namjoo didn’t really bother me - I was always quick to make new friends, and immediately hit it off with a sweet looking girl called Jiyeon, who introduced me to a handsome guy named Junsun. He shot me a fleeting smile, before filling three glasses of Soju for each of us. We talked about this and that, mostly about how each of us met Eunha - the two of them because they were dance trainees as well, and me because we used to work the same part-time job - until a last guest arrived. Junsun immediately called him over to us, wrapping one arm around the taller man’s neck and introducing him as his hyung Youngbin. The dark haired man had a very sweet smile and quickly bowed to each of us, before introducing himself again and asking for our names in return. Junsun busied himself with pouring some more Soju for us, and before I knew it, I had already drowned three glasses in under an hour.
I knew it was about time to eat something, so I quickly excused myself to get some of the snacks Eunha had provided for her guests. I didn’t even notice Youngbin following me until he came up beside me, making me jump and squeal in surprise. He laughed and immediately apologized, hiding his smile behind his hands while his eyes formed little crescents. He had a really cute giggle, I noticed, and couldn’t help but laugh with him. “I didn’t mean to scare you, sorry.”, he said, and leaned a bit closer to reach for a kimbap. I waved his apology aside, continuing to munch on some radishes, before asking him: “So, you’re a 1Million dance trainee as well?” He shook his head. “No, not anymore - I used to be, but I’m actually a trainee under FNC Entertainment now. I still dance with the studio trainees sometimes though, and that’s how I met Eunha. How about you? Are you a new dance trainee? I don’t think I’ve seen you before”, he inquired, tilting his head to one side and gazing at me for a few seconds. Now it was my turn to shake my head. “No, I’m not a dance trainee - I actually definitely have to do some serious work on my dancing. I’m a trainee under WJ Entertainment though - but I’m more gifted with singing and rapping, not so much with dancing. Our agency is quite young, and we don’t have many trainees yet, but I hope I’ll be able to debut soon.”, I explained, and Youngbin pursed his lips, thinking hard. “Yeah, I don’t think I’ve heard of WJ before. But well, if they’re quite a young company, it makes sense, I guess. Was it always your dream to become an idol?” I shook my head again. “Oh no, not at all. My audition was kind of an accident, I guess? I was only there as moral support for a friend who auditioned, but was asked to perform something as well. Apparently, they really liked me, because I got signed that very same day.” Youngbin just made an impressed noise, before beginning to pile food onto a plate to take back to where Jiyeon and Junsun sat, patiently waiting for us to join them again.
We continued our conversation for the rest of the evening, and I quickly realized how easy it was to talk to him - it truly felt like we had known each other for half an eternity already. He told me about his aspirations, and that he had always dreamed of becoming an idol, but that his one true goal in life was actually to become a dad one day, and to have a family of his own. My heart melted at his words, and I couldn’t help but squeeze his arm in understanding - one of my dreams was having my own family one day, too. I told him about where I grew up - in Busan, right by the sea -, and how I missed the salty air and fresh breeze here in Seoul. The sea and water in general had always held a strange fascination for me, maybe twinged with a little bit of fear. Youngbin began to giggle uncontrollably when I told him that I always called the sea “scary yet beautiful fish soup”.
The rest of the night flew by: we drank way too much Soju, had at least ten laughing fits, talked about literally everything and anything - from politics to philosophy to our favorite snacks to our most embarrassing childhood stories -, and by the end of the night, when the sky was slowly turning from midnight blue to hues of grey and finally soft yellows and reds, we bid Eunha goodbye. Youngbin and I strolled around the quiet and deserted streets of her neighborhood, each of us holding a bottle of water to quickly get rid of the alcohol in our systems. We discovered an empty playground and sat down on the two swings, but were more swaying than really swinging on them. We stayed quiet for a few minutes, but it didn’t feel uncomfortable or awkward - it felt just as natural as talking to him.
Finally, he looked at me, his warm, dark eyes full of uncertainty all of the sudden: “Do you sometimes feel like you’re not enough? Like you won’t succeed in anything?” His voice was quiet, and I couldn’t help but reach out and take his hand in mine, squeezing it lightly. “Oh yes, way too often, actually. But being insecure is part of growing up and of finding yourself, and the only thing we can really do for now is to push forward and to try and improve ourselves, every day a bit more. Don’t ask how, but I know you’ll succeed - that we both will succeed, one day. But if you ever feel the need to talk to someone about your feelings - please know that I’ll always have an open ear for you. I’m your friend now.”, I answered softly, and he gave me a sweet smile. “Thank you, Haemin-ah. I’ll make sure to remember that - and the same goes for you. Just give me a call or send a quick message, and I’ll be there for you, always.” I tilted my head to one side and returned his smile.
I already knew that this was just the beginning for us - the beginning of a deep and amazing friendship.

hi hi lovely aera! (◕‿◕)♡
after listening the playlist (take all the time you need!) i would like to know, what song did u like the most or though it was more catchy? sure, i would love to also get to know u better!!
favorite book – le petit prince by antoine de saint-exupéry y la sombra del viento by carlos ruiz zafón (this ones are my all time favorites even after reading them a while ago)
favourite movie / series – big fish and 27 dresses (i love romantic films and movies that makes me cry), for series i would choose law and order: svu and how to get away with murder? (i could watch both series the whole day)
currently (binge) watching – i’m currently watching law school, almost finished! (it’s really good!)
games that you play / recc – sadly i just know how to play mario kart so that’s the only game I know how to play and the one I would recommend haha :(
other things you adore – I love traveling, taking photos (with my phone, nothing pro like a camera because i’m kinda clumsy and i happen to know zero techniques), i love going to the movies and museums, legos, puzzles and sudokus!
i would also like to know your answers on this questions! (you always ask really nice questions), I wish you a great day and I hope you’re doing great at uni, remember to eat well and rest!! (o˘◡˘o)
– f🐯❤️
Hello my love f🐯❤️!!! Sflr, I was rushing assignments over the weekends but hope you've been well (◕ᴗ◕✿)
I've listened to the playlist and these are my favorites for each group:
aurora - ateez
insomnia - stray kidz
boomerang - exo
whiplash - nct 127
candlelight - nct dream
come back - wayv
boss - nct u
Out of all of these, I love aurora the most!! The opening feels romantic + the rhythm from the pre chorus to chorus makes me feel like they're trying to prove how much (something) means to them and it feels like exasperation filled with love. Idk what the lyrics are though ahskdjdkrk, everything is based on ear candy and vibe!!! Also, nct dream's candlelight reminds me of a warmer & happier ver of got7's which is more edgy and serious but nonetheless soft!
I also realized how well designed nct's albums are!! They're so eye catching & seventeen's designers/graphic artists should take notes. ㅠ ㅠ
Your choices are so poetic and thought provoking! I've never read le petit prince before but I've heard of it's references numerous times— I'd start reading it soon now that it's been mentioned by you! The movies you said looked really romantic and homely.... OOO MURDER N CRIME, one of my fave series is also crime solving and murder related! I've been wanting to watch law school but I held of watching bc i kept hearing from my friend that it was super draggy like one case takes up 8(?) episodes, however, it looks really interesting to me! If you don't mind, could you spoil a lil bit for me or summarize what's it about? (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) I don't play much either, except genshin; takes up my whole time anyway ahsjdnfk. I like photo taking too but mine looks so ordinary when it's taken (´ . .̫ . `)
Favorites of mine:
book: the things you can only see when you slow down by haemin sunim — it was recommended to carats by minghao!
series/movies: series would be bones / hospital playlist! bones was something I've watched since pretty young and I've gone through it multiple times by now while hospital playlist slice of life and friendships were something relatable and really cosy / I rarely watch movies but I'd say the harry potter franchise!
currently (binge) watching: good manager & friends! good manager is mostly comedic with the main being a scam king working for a conglomerate. I've been watching friends in progress since 2018 ahsidkdl, I binge watch seasons one shot instead of multiple episodes and then take a break for like months (๑•﹏•)
games: just genshin nothing else!
pastimes: I enjoy journaling, reading, tea, museums, art and star gazing!! But my area don't really have any space for stargazing ㅠ ㅠ
Once again, sorry for the late answers or if I worried you disappearing for a while ㅠ ㅠ I hope you're enjoying your work at the cafe and that it's relax & chill even! ❤️❤️❤️

Sound Brief
Project Title
A Dying Breed
Duration
1:01
Names/Roles of the production team + contact email
Wonsun Jin
Tina Park - Background artist
Remi-Rose Evans - Inbetweener and colorist
Haemin Park- animatic and keyframe animator
Anticipated outcome
To be screened at the “MicroFlix” festival
Target Audience
Young adult , 18-30 years old
Brief
In this project, we want the audioscape to accomplish 3 goals. One, we want to immerse the audience into the Australian countryside, from the sounds of the late afternoon to the sounds of the evening. Two, we want to use the audio to tell the story of what is happening off screen, i.e the hunting of the kangaroos, the univerity students incessant filming, the dog chewing on the scraps, to add to what is physically shown in the animation. Three, we want the audio to communicate the nature of the relationships in the animation. The relationship between the roo shooter and the kangaroos, the relationship between the roo shooter and the uni student, and the relationship between the uni student and the kangaroos. We want to compare and contrast the university student and the roo shooter’s attitudes towards the kangaroos.
Main characters and a description of them
Lachlan - The roo shooter
Lachlan is a 26 year old man who lives in the NSW countryside. He lives alone, except for his dog, and his only income is from shooting kangaroos, which is not lucrative for him. He deeply respects the kangaroos, and considers them to be an unstoppable force, “When im dead and gone, the roos will still be here, dodging the next shooter.” He takes pride in his work and does his best to treat the kangaroos humanely and with dignity. He loves his dog, and enjoys his company when he hunts. He dislikes Humphrey (the university student)’s, treatment of the kangaroos, and thinks he should have more respect.
Humphrey - The uni student
Humphrey is a 21 year old man who studies film at a university akin to AFTA. He has many friends, and assumes most people think he is the “next big thing.” A bit of an egotistical man, he doesn’t truly respect much of what he films, but instead almost fetishizes his subjects in search for “Authenticity.” He views the kangaroos being shot in the outback as the epitome of this. He views them as little more than a ticket to a “raw, hard hitting documentry,” and mostly uses them as shock value. He thinks that Lachlan is all most other worldly in how rural and “authentic” his life is, and views him with the same attitude he views the Kangaroos. Despite his travelling experiences, Humphrey never really left his sub urban bubble, and doesn’t really know how to communicate with others without sounding both condescending and naive.
Main locations and a description of them
Lachlan’s cabin.
Lachlan’s cabin was built by his great grandfather, and is very old. Made of gum tree wood, there are many cracks in the walls where small ants could creep through. The floor is scratched from the sliding of chairs and the dog’s nails. Simple to some, the cabin is Lachlan’s home and he enjoys it. The roof is tin and rusty.  It is not under any gumtrees, but instead in a clearing. It’s energy is powered by a generator that hums loudly.
The shooting track
Lachlan drives down the same track every evening to shoot kangaroos. It is surrounded by tall gum trees, and the track has deep indents from his tires in the soil. The track ends in a clearing where the kangaroos often graze. The ground is hard and dusty.
key underlying themes and ideas
One of the main themes present is the concept of respect. Respect for the land, respect for kangaroo hunting career field, respect for other’s way of life, and what it means when that respect isn’t present. Its crucial that we present Lachlan as a sympathetic character, and humanise him as a character.
Musical references that may inform the composition process
-
Relevant stylistic/aesthetic considerations
our film has a somewhat graphic style. please consider this when creating an audioscape.
Key scenes or vital moments that you already know music/sound will play a vital role in
When the Kangaroos are being shot off screen.
Any other specific considerations/requirements for music /sound design on your project
The gunshot sounds are very important to infer what is happening off screen.

Seal of Dark Fate
CHAPTER 2: Something Weird
Genre: Fantasy / Mystery / Romance / Action
Characters: OC / BTS / GOT7 / EXO
Word Count: 3,606
Summary: Min Haeyoon had no idea that a simple trip to the fortune-teller would lead her into meeting a mysterious boy and discovering that she was destined for something that will require her to choose between light and dark.  And along the way, she will realize that the people she knew and the life she led so far were not what she thought them to be.
[1] [2] [3]
"There are three things that cannot be long hidden; the sun, the moon and the truth." -Buddha
“OKAY, SO LET me just get this straight,” Yoongi said from his seat on the plush couch in their living room as he gave his parents a disbelieving look. “We’re gonna take that kid in?” He turned his piercing gaze towards the scared-looking young boy who was seated close next to his sister—too close for his liking. Yoongi’s eyes narrowed into slits when he noticed how the boy was almost burying his face on Haeyoon’s shoulder.
The auburn-headed girl shushed her brother with a disapproving look. “You’re scaring him, Yoongi.” She gave a sideway glance at the trembling boy beside her, her eyes softening out of sympathy. Ever since she brought Mrs. Jeon’s son to their house and introduced him to her family, the boy did nothing but to hide behind her like a kid hiding behind his mom on his first day of school. It seemed like it’s the first time he came out to the world. He wouldn’t even want to release his tight grip on the edge of her shirt. “It’ll be just for a while, until we found his other relatives. Let’s not make a big deal out of this.”
Yoongi heaved a heavy sigh, “Mom, dad, are you really okay with this? We barely know the guy.”
The two adults hadn’t uttered a single word since Haeyoon introduced the boy to them, letting their eldest son do all the interrogation. They’re both sporting a solemn and thoughtful look like they had just learned that the world will end tomorrow. A tense silence followed after the brown-haired boy’s question and it took a while before Mr. Min broke it and said, “It can’t be helped, son, we’re the only ones who can take care of him right now.”
Yoongi slumped on his seat as he thought about the situation before sighing in defeat. “Damn, right.” Upon arriving at the conclusion that they’re going to take the orphaned boy in, Haeyoon broke into a soft smile.
“Anyway, what’s his name?” Yoongi asked, throwing a look at the silent boy whose head was still ducked low, his fringe hiding part of his eyes.
“Oh, now that you’ve mentioned it,” she trailed off as she looked at the boy and asked softly, “What’s your name?”
When the boy heard Haeyoon directed a question at him, he lifted his head a bit higher and answered in a very low voice, “Jungkook.”
“How old are you, boy?” Yoongi asked but didn’t get an answer. However, when Haeyoon asked the same question he replied immediately. They learned that Jungkook was sixteen, a year younger than Haeyoon. When Yoongi asked another set of questions, they were never answered unless Haeyoon asked them herself.
Yoongi can’t help but raised an eyebrow. “So, he’s answering your questions only?” His sister giggled at him, saying that he’s probably scaring the kid that’s why he wasn’t answering his questions. He can only scoff in reply.
“Should we all call this a day?” their father suddenly piped in. “You, young people, should all rest now.”
“Haeyoon, dear, why don’t you show Jungkook to the guest room?” Mrs. Min said in her calm voice but her face was still sporting that troubled look.
“Okay, mom,” said Haeyoon as she stood up from her seat, Jungkook in tow, and kissed her parents goodnight.
“I’m coming with you,” Yoongi offered, still warily eyeing the tall young boy walking closely behind her sister as if he’s so scared of being separated from her. This boy is sure weird.
Upon reaching the second floor, Haeyoon opened the door next to her room and walked inside. She turned to face the boy whose head was still hung low and said, “Jungkook, look at me,” she called softly at him, making the boy lift his head until Haeyoon could see his eyes wide with anxiousness. “You’ll be okay, trust me. We’ll take care of you and no one will hurt you here so don’t be scared anymore.” Jungkook continued to stare silently at her with his doe-like innocent eyes. “This will be your room and if you ever need anything, mine is just right next door, hmm?” She smiled at him in hopes of easing his fear.
“And my room is right next to Haeyoon’s,” her brother butt in, his words sounding a lot more like a warning than a statement. He shrugged when his younger sister shot him a look. “What?”
Haeyoon rolled her eyes at him before turning to Jungkook again. “Sleep tight, okay? I’ll see you tomorrow.” She was about to leave when she felt a tug on her sleeve. She was taken aback when she saw Jungkook looking at her with eyes wider and more alert in fear. Before she could even ask what’s wrong, Jungkook spoke with a rather shaky voice.
“P-please don’t leave…” he muttered, desperation written all over his innocent face. Something tugged at the girl’s heart and was about to say something when her brother beat her to it.
“Nuh-uh,” Yoongi walked over them and held his sister by the elbow. “Nothing’s gonna eat you here, so calm down and sleep.” He pulled Haeyoon against his side and away from Jungkook. “Or do you want me to put you to sleep?”
“Yoongi!” Haeyoon gasped, whacking her brother’s arm. “Just let me handle this, so, shoo!” Yoongi didn’t even have time to blink when he was pushed out of the room by his sister. He stared dumbstruck at the closed door, unable to believe that his own sister kicked him out.
Haeyoon sighed when her eyes landed on Jungkook who was standing in the middle of the room with a lost-sad-puppy look on his face, making him look a lot younger than he really is. She walked towards him before tugging him by the hand towards the bed. “Jungkook, I’m just right beside your room, no need to be afraid,” she tried convincing him as she made him lie on the bed. She can perfectly understand where his fear of being alone was coming from; being left by someone important to you does that to people. Not to mention the fact that this was probably the first time he was seeing so many new faces in his whole life. Though reluctantly, the boy settled under the sheets, letting Haeyoon tuck him in. “I promise you, you’ll be safe in here. I’ll take care of you.”
The boy gazed at her with wide hopeful eyes that seek for an assurance. “Promise?”
Haeyoon broke into a warm comforting smile, “Promise.”
IT WAS ONE-THIRTY in the morning when Haeyoon woke up with parched throat. Tossing her comforter to the side, she slipped out of her bed and headed downstairs to fetch a glass of water. The moment she reached the foot of the stairs, she was surprised to see light flooding from the kitchen. She was almost at the threshold when a pair of arms grabbed her from behind. Panic and fear coursed through her body but she wasn’t able to scream when she heard the person spoke.
“It’s me,” Yoongi whispered against her ears as they were both tucked closely to the wall beside the kitchen, well-hidden in the shadows.
She whirled around and glared at him for almost giving her a heart-attack.  “Are you crazy?! What was that for?” she hissed, demanding for an explanation. The boy just shushed her and made her listen to the conversation from the kitchen.
“It’s already happening, Jaeyoon,” their mother spoke in a hushed manner but with the deafening silence surrounding them, her voice was clearly heard. “Our fear is definitely happening!”
“It was bound to happen sooner or later,” their father answered in a grave voice. “We can’t hide the truth forever.”
Haeyoon turned to her brother with wide curious eyes. “What are they talking about?” she whispered to her brother.
“I don’t know, but all I know is that they started acting weird when they saw that Jungkook boy. I knew right then there was something wrong,” Yoongi replied in his deep quiet voice.
“I can’t believe it all happened this way,” the woman spoke in a cracked voice. “It’s too early, we’re not prepared. They’re not prepared. This isn’t supposed to happen this early. How come we haven’t sensed it at all? It was right under our noses!”
There was a pause and Haeyoon found herself feeling so confused and scared. She unconsciously gripped her brother’s arms that were protectively wrapped around her.
“There are things you can’t prevent from happening,” their father said cryptically. “There are things that can’t be kept away from each other for long. It’s how fate works.”
“Then how are we going to tell them everything?” their mother demanded almost hysterically, voice rising a bit above whisper. “The truth will surely put them to harm.” Then they heard a sob. “I can’t believe we failed in our tasks, we failed the whole Lucere.”
At the mention of the last word, the siblings exchanged confused and questioning glances. Just what in the world are their parents talking about?
“No, Look at me, Haemin, there’s still a chance” the man said. “We just have to find The Guardians and they will be safe.”
“We have to find them soon. It’s just a matter of time before the tainted ones come looking for them.” their mother replied after she had collected herself.
“But I don’t know where to start looking,” their father said again, voice laced with frustration. “We’ve been searching for almost two decades but we still can’t find them.”
“We need help. We need to talk to the Oraculum, they might know how to find The Guardians. I know it’s risky and dangerous to go back but it’s the only way I know to keep them safe.”
There were so many questions formed in both the siblings’ minds but they can’t find the right words to voice them out. It was like their parents were talking about things that were totally out of their world.
“You’re right, it’s the best thing we could do in this situation,” their father concluded. “We need to go back as soon as possible.”
“Should we tell them already?” their mother asked.
“No,” the man quickly turned the idea down. “We can’t tell them yet, not even Yoongi. Not until we found The Guardians.”
Sensing that the conversation was almost over Yoongi stealthily dragged his sister back to their own respective rooms.
“Pretend that we didn’t hear anything when in front of mom and dad, okay?” he instructed his sister who asked why they would have to do that. “I have a feeling that they won’t tell us anything yet even if we ask them. It will just complicate things so let’s just keep quiet for the mean time, okay?”
“Okay, but, Yoongi,” Haeyoon looked up at her brother with uncertainty. “I’m…I don’t know…I’m scared.”
Even though the boy was kind of shaken himself with what they had just heard from their parents, he needed to show his sister that she can depend on him. With a reassuring smile on his face, he pulled her into a protective embrace. “Don’t worry; I’m always here to protect you, princess.” Then he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. “Always and forever.”
THE WARM RAYS of sunlight peeking through the gaps in her curtain was enough to rouse Haeyoon from her sleep thirty minutes before her alarm clock go off. She stayed lying on her side for a few moments, mind drifting to last night’s event, before deciding that she must prepare for school. Her brows furrowed when she realized that she can’t move and that her back actually felt toasty. Why does her back felt warm when her cheeks were cold? Looking down, her eyes went wide when she saw a blue sweater-clad arm draped tightly around her waist. Quickly twisting around from under the arm, she was greeted by a peacefully sleeping angelic face of Jeon Jungkook. She was frozen, mouth slightly parted in surprise. How did he get in her room and more specifically on her bed? Did he somehow move in here sometime in the morning? She was shocked but she can’t find it in her heart to get mad at the boy. And just like last night, she found herself staring at his childlike features until his eyes fluttered open.
“Goodmorning,” the boy muttered softly, eyes blinking languidly, as if waking up next to each other was the most natural thing in the world. Haeyoon snapped back to reality making her shot out of the bed.
“W-what are you doing here?” she asked, flustered. “How’d you get in here? Yoongi will kill you if he knew you slept here.”
Jungkook slowly shifted into a sitting position, his right fist rubbing against his eyes sleepily and Haeyoon can’t help but think how cute he was. “I’m sorry,” he sadly said. “I was scared and I can’t sleep and whenever something like that happens, Mother lets me sleep beside her. I just thought that…you wouldn’t mind…I’m sorry.”
Seeing his apologetic guilty face melted Haeyoon’s heart so she approached him and patted his head. “It’s…It’s…okay with me but I don’t think Yoongi and my parents would be happy to see you sleeping in my room.”
“Why?” he asked as he tilted his head cutely to the side.
“Uhm, because a boy and a girl shouldn’t sleep in the same room together, you know,” she said as if it is common sense to know something like that.
“But why?” the boy innocently asked again.
She lifted a hand against her temple, racking her brains for a proper explanation to his inquiry. Is this boy for real? Is he really that innocent? “Because something might happen between them, something that should only happen after marriage.”
“What might happen?” he asked again, eyes wide with childlike curiosity and innocence.
Taking a deep breath, Haeyoon decided to go for the kill. “They might have sex.” She bit her lip, blushing at her own boldness but at least it’ll put an end to his questions. The girl waited for a reaction but Jungkook just blinked at her.
“Why?” he furrowed his thick eyebrows. “I’m confused. Because according to the dictionary, sex is a noun and it means the state of being male or female…so why?”
She almost fell face first on the ground at his statement. “Are you for real?” she can’t help but blurt. Then she realized that he must’ve lived a very sheltered life under her mother’s care, thus, making him as innocent as possible to the worldly things. “You know what, never mind, let’s just go downstairs before Yoongi decides to check up on us.” She tried to change the topic, not wanting to corrupt the boy’s innocence anymore and not wanting to go discussing sex early in the morning.
She peeked out the hallway and when she saw that they were clear, she dragged him down the dining area.
“Goodmorning,” she greeted her mom who was cooking in the kitchen and her dad who was reading a newspaper while having his coffee. They both greeted her back like they would always do, like nothing happened last night and Haeyoon found it weird. And if ever they noticed her and Jungkook coming down at the same time, they didn’t point it out.
Mrs. Min started setting up the table all the while asking Jungkook if he was comfortable in his new room and whatnot. All the boy did were little occasional nods and shakes of his head as an answer and Haeyoon realized that he only talked in full sentences when it was with her. It seemed like he was still afraid of other people aside from her.
“So, Jungkook-ah, I’m bringing you with me today so that we can fix the matters that would help you enter highschool,” her mother said as she started placing the dishes on the table.
“But mom, is it really, okay? I mean…” Haeyoon trailed off because she knows that her mother knows what she was talking about. Jungkook had never left their house when her mother was still alive and throwing him in high school so suddenly might not be a good idea.
“It will be alright, Jungkook was being homeschooled before by his own mother who was a former teacher and if he passes the necessary tests, he can handle high school just fine,” her mother explained.
Her gaze travelled to Jungkook and she was surprised to see him staring at her as if seeking for an approval or reassurance. After a moment of contemplating, she broke into a smile and said, “It’s okay. You should go with mom.” It seemed like the boy really trusts her words because he agreed when she told him to.
Not long after, Yoongi went down and joined them for breakfast. It was a seemingly normal morning for the family, with the addition of the silent Jungkook, complete with random topics and all. But the siblings would exchange secret glances from time to time with the knowledge that something was definitely up with their parents and they were sure that it was anything but normal.
“MOM AND DAD were acting so normal it felt weird,” Haeyoon said to her brother as they were getting their things from their lockers.
“You said it,” Yoongi replied as he slammed his locker door shut. “We need to know what they were talking about last night.”
The girl was about to open her mouth and reply when someone tackled her form behind, trapping her into a bone-crushing hug.
“Goodmorning, babydoll!” a squeaky voice said merrily and she recognized it as Park Jimin, one of her and Yoongi’s childhood friends. He gave her a peck on the cheek before releasing her from the hug. Before she could even turn around, her books where lifted away from her arms.
“Hi,” her orange-haired best friend greeted her with his signature rectangular smile brightening up his handsome face.
“’Morning, Haeyoonie,” Jung Hoseok smiled dotingly at her as he pinched both of her rosy cheeks.
“Goodmorning, guys,” she smiled back at them.
“You look so cute today with your pink headband,” Kim Seokjin cooed at her which made her giggle and say that he loves everything that is pink.
“Come here, princess,” Kim Namjoon pulled her possessively against his side by the waist before turning to her brother. “I’m walking her to her room today, Yoongi.”
The boy scoffed at the tall blonde. “As if you’ll actually listen if I say no so why bother telling me?” Namjoon only smirked as a reply. “Why don’t you, guys, get a sister of your own and stop stealing mine?” Yoongi said to the five males as he crossed his arms petulantly. Haeyoon can only chuckle at her brother’s behavior.
“Uhm, because we want Haeyoonie specifically?” Jimin said half-jokingly and half-teasingly.
“And I’m sure that this guy here,” Hoseok piped in as he slung an arm around Taehyung, “doesn’t want Haeyoon to be just his sister.” His statement made the poor boy blush up to his ears, making everyone in their group erupt in laughter except Yoongi who looked like he wasn’t pleased.
“Oh really?” Yoongi said in a warning tone. “Let’s see about that.”
There was a chorus of ‘Oooohh’s before the warning bell echoed through the hallway. They split up with Taehyung, Namjoon and Haeyoon going the same way and opposite from the others.
Upon reaching their room Namjoon bid her farewell with a peck on her forehead. “Laters, baby,” he smiled, his cute dimples appearing on his cheeks, before sprinting down the hallway.
When they entered their room, they were surprised when their homeroom teacher was nowhere to be seen. She glanced back at Taehyung who only shrugged with a have-no-idea look.
“Where, Ms. Song?” she asked Shinhye as she settled down on her seat.
“I’ve heard that there’ll be a new student so I’m guessing that she’s at the office to take care of the matter,” the girl replied.
After a few minutes, Ms. Song entered their classroom and sure enough, they’re going to have a new classmate.
“Okay, students I would like you to welcome your new classmate,” she said with a smile before turning towards the door and motioning for the person to get inside.
There was a collective gasp from the female students as soon as the new student stepped inside the room. Then the gasps immediately turned into murmurs of excitement because of the new male student. Haeyoon can’t blame her classmates for reacting that way because the boy had strikingly handsome features. Although he wasn’t that tall, he still had an aura around him that demands attention. He’s got an angelic baby face and a pair of wide bright pretty eyes that were complemented by his thick dark eyebrows which matched the color of his short black hair. His kind brown eyes scanned the room and when they met with Haeyoon’s caramel-brown ones, his heart-shaped lips slightly parted while his eyes widened a fraction. Having noticed this, Haeyoon’s eyebrows furrowed before she looked away. There was something in the new student that made her feel weird.
“Please introduce yourself,” the teacher kindly asked the boy.
“I’m Do Kyungsoo, please take care of me,” he finished his self introduction with a ninety-degree bow.

He was left home alone so he asked you to come hang out at the dorms after a few hours one thing led to another now you and Myungho were locked lips in the middle of the living room soon after the door opened neither of you hearing it too lost in your own love for one another when suddenly you heard and saw the flash of multiple cameras and giggles you tore apart too figure out what that sound was only to met with the boys teasing you to no end both of you knew you would never live this down for however long to two of you lived
𝕂𝕪𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕞𝕚𝕟
------------
He thought he locked the door when entering  the room you were currently in he found you laying on your stomach watching something on your phone he smiled before walking up to you and rolling you on your back "hi" he said "hi" you said back after the cute interaction you both fell silent just looking at each other Kyungmin was the first to move leaning down to kiss you of course you kissed back before the kiss could go on any longer an innocent Minho walked into the room looking for Kyungmin to help him with something poor boy seen a lot more than he wished too he gasped out a small "sorry" before closing the door and walking away after you and Kyungmin stared at the door in shock
𝕁𝕒𝕖𝕪𝕦𝕟
-------
He didn't really care- like he knew the member walked in he let you pull away and stare at them after asking Jaeyun a few questions they walked away and he tried to kiss you again but you got too embarrassed and backed up so he waited in pain of lack of affection for like 30 minutes for you too forget what just happened and kissed you again
ℍ𝕒𝕖𝕞𝕚𝕟
---------
He knew what he was doing he heard the door open he knew there was someone witnessing the unholy act of kissing Infront of them he knew they would eventually leave he also knew you'd be extremely embarrassed if you realized someone had saw so of course he stayed kissing you as long as he possibly could before the member left thank God you didn't find out or you would have been to embarrassed to kiss him for the rest of your stay
𝕊𝕖𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕙𝕖𝕠𝕟
-------------
He just wanted a small kiss but Haemin had to walk in as soon as your lips met after multiple little pecks and a silent Haemin quietly taking pictures and videos to tease the youngest with finally once Haemin started to feel single he let his presence known by throwing a random shirt he found on the floor at Seungheon both of you jumped apart and refused to meet each others eyes or Haemins eyes for the rest of the night
𝕐𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕪𝕦
-------
Poor boy finally worked up the courage to kiss you first the kiss went on for a second till you both couldn't breath but as soon as you pulled away he went right back (biting my first rn) the door opened revealing the youngest member Seungheon he just wanted to ask if the rap he came up with was good but he got more than he hoped he let out a loud "eww!" Before closing the door and walking away forming his plan to tease his Hyung on the other hand you and Yungyu broke apart as soon as he entered now Yungyu was hiding in your neck from the embarrassment
𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕙𝕠
-------
It was an innocent kiss but Yungyu decided to be dramatic about it and say you two had your tongues down each others throats so busy eating each other you didn't realize you traumatized him that's what he told the members that is what really happened was you were sad cuz Minhos hair was wet so you couldn't play with the fluff till it's dry and he tried to cheer you up by kissing you which worked until Yungyu came around let's just say you refused to show your face to the members for awhile
𝕐𝕠𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕦𝕟𝕘
-----------
Both you and Yoonsung were hanging out in an empty room after they performed Yoonsung was taking a break and minding his own business when suddenly he got a really strong urge to kiss you so that's what he did the kiss went on for a minute and one of the members walked in looking for Yoonsung cuz the stylist was looking for him to touch up his makeup/hair and get him a new outfit said member gasped before laughing loudly walking out of the room teasing both you and Yoonsung while Yoonsung was getting his makeup/hair/outfit done you refused to show your face till everyone left once you and Yoonsung were alone again you did indeed hit him upside the head scolding him for kissing you in public

He pretends like it didn't phase him but his red ears say otherwise he'd try to play it cool but he wasn't doing a very good job  the fans you and the rest of 8Turn basically ganged up on him

The shyness didn't hit him till an hour after the show when he was thinking about it during the show he was hyping you up and telling the turnings how amazing you are both on and off screen but once he was alone he practically melted when he was recalling your movements in his mind

𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕙𝕠
-------
He wasn't shy he just hyped you up the entire time which made great content for the fans they ate all the compliments up after that interaction they made even more ship and iconic moment posts of the two of you

His body just kinda shut down and he was starring at the screen with wide eyes and red ears he blocked out the members teasing and focused solely on you and you only

♡︎Them talking about you♡︎
(𝔻𝕦𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕔𝕒𝕥 𝕖𝕒𝕣 𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕪)
A/N: Ik I mention this video often but I love it so much I can't (y'all I've been trying to write this since 3:55pm it is now 12:13am people either wanna talk or message me when I start writing istg) also don't worry about the time stamps there for future chapters so just ignore them
Tumblr media
This is gender neutral
------------–––---------------------------
Scenario:(Member) talks about you alot so ofc the members had to mention you in his talking habits
--------------------------------------------
𝕄𝕪𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕙 8:33pm - 11:18pm
-----------------------------
★Myungho isn't surprise he knew this was coming but it still flustered him it was a shock but not a surprise (does that make sense?-) Myungho said a few things he likes about you not too much as he didn't wanna make the members bored or anything★
𝕂𝕪𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕞𝕚𝕟 3:55pm - 8:33pm
------------------------------
★As soon as he saw your name pop up on the screen Infront of him he almost fell off his chair, his cheeks went bright red encouraging the members to tease him more
As soon as the members saw your name on the screen they all died out in laughter before mimicking how Kyungmin always brings up how he met you★
_______________________________________
𝕁𝕒𝕖𝕪𝕦𝕟 11:19pm - 11:23pm
--------------------------
★Jaeyun just like Myungho knew this was coming he'd playfully act shocked before laughing along with the rest then told the camera everything he likes about you let's just say the poor editors I had to cut out like almost 4 hours of footage of just Jaeyun talking about you no breaks or quick breathers I'm sure some of the members fell asleep★
_______________________________________
ℍ𝕒𝕖𝕞𝕚𝕟 11:40pm - 11:46pm
---------------------------
★Haemin had a feeling but he didn't think to much on it till your name showed up Infront of him he stopped for a second before nervously laughing wondering if this was allowed but after a few seconds he warmed up to talking about you on camera then started sharing embarrassing things about you he learned his lesson the next time he saw you★
_______________________________________
𝕊𝕖𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕙𝕖𝕠𝕟 11:55 - 12:00am
------------------------------
★He was shy but he took the chance to tease you (brings back to the "shy but bold") he'd bring up things like if you sleep talk he will mimick you and almost sound exactly like you (if it wasn't for his deep ass voice) or if you walk or run a certain way he will stand up and mimick it teasing you lead to the members teasing him for how much he pays attention to★
______________________________________
𝕐𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕪𝕦 11:55 - 12:04am
--------------------------
★Small shy baby he was giggling the entire time talking about you he tells his favorite memories with a love sick (girls) smile on his face which once again leads to the members teasing him instead of you once he got off screen and time to relax the first thing he did was call you to tell you what happened which once again he got teased for★
𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕙𝕠 12:09am - 12:11am
--------------------------
★he would get excited but also embarrassed once the members bring up how he makes you touch his hair all the time once he gets a bit more comfy with the topic of you on camera they couldn't get him to shut up even on topics that weren't about you he'd somehow snuggle you in the Convo★
𝕐𝕠𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕦𝕟𝕘 12:04am - 22:08am
--------------------------------
★oh boy did he get excited as I've mentioned before he loves to dance with you so ofc he stood up and showed everyone his favorite dance to do with you once he sat down again he talked about how you would steal his clothes and look small (crying in 5'9) you look he would pull his phone out his pocket and show photos all of which none of them made it in the final cut to protect your privacy★

----------
He's the one who dragged you into decorating with him, handing you the tree topper (star, angel, bow, ext.) Holding your waist as you reached up to put the topper on, your peaceful and slightly romantic moment was ruined by Seungheon who faked gagged "I feel like I just seen my parents kiss" Seungheon mumbled grabbing his charger from the coffee table that now had a giant fake gingerbread man house in the middle along with fake snow.
You and Myungho laughed as Seungheon left the room "kids these days" Myungho sighed "woah don't group me with you, I'm not old" you said crossing your arms, Myungho faked offended putting a hand over his heart "I thought you loved me.." Myungho said dramatically, you playfully rolled his eyes before leaning down and giving him a kiss on his lips.
𝕂𝕪𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕞𝕚𝕟
------------
Kyungmin himself is pretty tall, so the members called for him a while before you arrived, once you took your shoes off you made your way to the living room, hearing Kyungmin's whines of exhaustion, giggling at the sight "oh Yn! Here here" Yungyu said rushing to you with Ordainments he couldn't put on top the tree, "noo...I wanna relax.." Kyungmin said dramatically as you willingly helped the younger male, "calm down you big baby" you laughed hanging the ordainment where Yungyu told you too. Almost 30 minutes later of you helping Yungyu, you finally made your way to your tall Boyfriend helping him hand Garland on the wall, much to his dismay.
𝕁𝕒𝕖𝕪𝕦𝕟
-------
He kept track of time whenever you left his room rather it'd be to use the bathroom or to get food, he does this so he can 'save' you if his members bother you, noteing that you've been gone for almost an hour he finally got up and went to. Check on you, only to find you somehow wrapped in Christmas lights with glitter scattered about the room, slowly blinking Jaeyun finally spoke up "what... happened-" he asked looking at you, before you could respond Yungyu and Seungheon started blaming one another for something he couldn't understand.
Myungho who witnessed the whole thing, shook his head before walking over and helping you out your Christmas light jail, once done he quickly hushed the two boys "what actually happened was, Yungyu brought out Christmas lights Seungheon wanted to put them on the tree but he couldn't reach the top, Myungho didn't like the way he put them on the tree so he took them down, Yungyu for some reason got really upset and tried to snatch the lights from Myungho then I somehow got stuck in the middle ans got trapped in a light prison.." you explained.
Jaeyun rolled his eyes before grabbing your hand and leading you back to his room "you smell like a Christmas tree, a cookie and, cinnamon" Jaeyun commented sniffing your neck, "oh yeah Haemin came through throwing these cinnamon scented sticks at Myungho and I got caught in the cross fire, and Kyungmin somehow baked cookies without burning the house down.." you giggled, "and the glitter?" Jaeyun said sitting you on his bed before opening his closet and grabbing some clothes for you "oh, for some reason it was in the tree when we opened it I inhaled a lot of glitter" you said rubbing the back of your neck Jaeyun laughed before helping you into his clothes.
ℍ𝕒𝕖𝕞𝕚𝕟
---------
Another tall one, so he automatically got dragged into the mess as well, "no! You can't hang that there!" Kyungmin exclaimed ripping the decorations out of Haemin's hands, Haemin sighed "Yn..." Haemin turned to where he last saw you only for you to be gone, looking around the room he sees you not there, trying to not panic he walked out the living room ignoring Kyungmin's complaining, finding you in the kitchen covered in flower as you decorated the mini tree on the counter with Yungyu. "There you are" Haemin sighed "oh hey" you waved before turning your attention back to the younger male, reaching up to grab a bow from the top cupboard as Yungyu complains about who put it there, Haemin sat on the bar stool admiring the way you interacted with his member a small smile on his face "stop staring" you laughed before going up to Haemin and rubbing your flower filled body on his back. The entire time he waited he didn't complain instead he sat and waited with a lovesick smile on his face.
𝕊𝕖𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕙𝕖𝕠𝕟
-------------
He came back from a shower to see you no where to be seen, setting his stuff down he went on searching for you, he found you holding a glittery red bow on the wall close the ceiling, moving it whenever Jaeyun said, once he got the space he wanted Kyungmin came up behind you pushing his front to your back putting the tack in the wall the both of you releasing leaving the bow hanging on the wall, you Jaeyun and, Kyungmin all high fived.
A few seconds later you finally noticed your boyfriend who sat there with a pout on his face glaring at Kyungmin, Jaeyun noticed how jealous Seungheon seemed so he let you go, Seungheon immediately dragging you to his room, "why do you look so upset" you pouted poking his cheek, Seungheon huffed his cheeks flushing a bright pink, "why did you leave.." Seungheon said quietly "I heard them in the living room and figured they needed help" you explained.
"Why were you and Kyungmin so close" he said his pout deeping, you fought back the urge to coo at his cuteness "dont be upset about it, he didn't mean it in that way, he just needed to reach above me" you reassured, Seungheon nodded still a bit sad, you focused the rest of the night on him not letting him get up making him lay with you while you cuddled and kissed him.
𝕐𝕦𝕟𝕘𝕪𝕦
-------
Yungyu sat in his room, waiting for you to come back, almost 20 minutes ago you got up to get you and him a drink and a snack to share, expecting you to come back not to long after that. When it finally hits the 20 minute mark Yungyu gets off his bed and leaves his room looking for you, he finds you holding up Christmas lights while Myungho untangled the rest of the line, looking around the room he realized what kept you away from him for 20 minutes. "Oh Yungyu! Perfect come help us" Myungho called out pulling Yungyu to hold the rest of the lights that dangle from your hands, "please my arms are getting tired I keep dropping them" you giggled sheepishly.
Yungyu sighs before helping out holding the lights as you tack them to the wall, snuggling them in the crack between the wall and ceiling. "Is this what took you so long?" Yungyu pouted, you responded humming out a 'yes', you and Yungyu were forced to sit there and decorate with Myungho before being let go, leaving you to tend to a pouty Yungyu.
𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕙𝕠
-------
Minho sighed waiting for you to come back, even tho you've been gone for a little over 10 minutes he thought it was too long, he got up and searched for you, finding you at the front door with Kyungmin and Haemin, helping them hang a reef on the door along with fake snow, lights and, garland covering the frame of the door, Minho sighed dramatically, "what you are doing" Minho whined, you gasped before leaving your work and grabbing his hand leading him to the kitchen where the other members are "try one" you said grabbing a cookie shaped as a gingerbread man, shoving it in Minho's mouth, he hummed in approval at the taste, "it's good, but you still never answered my question" he said chewing on the cookie "oh, they asked for help so I helped them" you smiled at Minho, Minho blushed at your smile before nodding "see how weak he gets for them" Yoonsung pointed out making the others laughed.
𝕐𝕠𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕦𝕟𝕘
-----------
Yoonsung watched in amazement as you effortlessly reached the ceiling hanging up the lights and garland as Myungho asked you too, "why do you look like you just seen space?" Yungyu teased "their height never fails to amaze me" Yoonsung said watching you hang things, the other members tried to talk to Yoonsung only for him to ignore them focused only on you, eventually they all gave up leaving him in his own world, once you came back Yoonsung smothered you in hugs and kisses complimenting your long legs.
