Celebration

Chikayou for Chika’s birthday! Happy birthday, chika!!

Chika is used to going on You’s boat. It’s modest, small and comfy. You’s father gave it to her for her 15th birthday after finding it abandoned at a scrapyard, and Chika and You spent an entire day cleaning and painting it in their favourite colours.

They go for regular trips on it, weather permitting. They sail out, but not too far. You steers it most of the time, with Chika helping out here and there. Once, You even gave Chika her captain’s hat whilst she taught her how to steer.

These are all very pleasant memories in Chika’s mind as her best friend drags her over to the boat on her seventeenth birthday.

“It’s just a simple trip to celebrate. Nothing special,” You had told her, dismissing the idea of anything fancy.

But as they climb on the boat, walking up to the front, they receive shouts of “Surprise!” and the rest of the Aqours members pop out of random places. You grins, eager to see Chika’s reaction.

Before Chika can say anything, You pulls at the rope tying the boat to the dock, which loosens it, and they are free on the water. You grabs the steering wheel, focusing for a moment to make sure they get out safely, whilst everybody else crowds Chika and hands her their gifts. They’re wrapped in brightly coloured paper, which are torn apart as Chika opens them one by one, joyfully thanking each and every one of them. Mari envelopes her in a large hug, saying “No need to get so teary-eyed!”

Even though her eyes aren’t on the scene right now, You smiles to herself. It’s just like Chika to get all soppy now of all times. When she is satisfied with the boat’s position, she returns to the group, joining in.

They play a few games until Yoshiko suddenly pales, muttering that she gets seasick. Riko quickly takes her over to the side of the boat, and everybody else respectfully averts their eyes.

After a while, they go to sit at the back of the boat, watching the sun set in the distance. They’re bathed in a warm orange glow that stretches out across the water, which glistens in the light. You stands up, asking Chika to follow her to the front of the boat.

It’s silent for a few minutes as they look out across the water together, shoulders touching. Eventually, You turns to Chika.

“Are you enjoying this?”

Chika nods excitedly. “Yeah! I had no idea that you had planned this! Thanks so much, You-chan.”

“Ah, well, I didn’t really do that much.”

You digs around in her back, before pulling out a silver necklace with a charm of a mikan on it. Chika gasps in surprise as her best friend claps it around her neck. It’s perfect.

You brings out another necklace, similar with the exception of the charm on it, which is a blue boat. Chika begs to put it on for her, and You happily obliges, turning around so Chika can secure the clasp.

“We’re matching, now,” Chika finally says when she steps away. “I love you so much, You-chan.”

You smiles back. “I love you too, Chika-chan.”

Chika shakes her head, taking a deep breath. There’s something she’s bothered by, maybe. You wonders if she’s getting seasick, even though she’s never had it before. Nothing can prepare her for the next few words that spill out of Chika’s mouth.

“Not like that. I mean, I love you as more than a friend. Like, a girlfriend.”

You is stunned into silence. Her eyes widen, and a blush forms across her cheeks. If she could, she would jump straight into the water from her embarrassment.

She does manage to find her voice again after a while. “I love you like that as well,” she stutters out.

The mood is broken as Chika laughs. “You look so funny right now! I wish I could take a picture of it.”

“No!”

“Just kidding.” Chika leans in, kissing You on the lips. It tastes so sweet, like a bright summer day, if that could have a taste.

When they finally part, You has her hands on Chika’s shoulder.

“Happy birthday, Chika-chan.”

They are interrupted by Dia rushing towards them. “We’re about to hit a rock!”

“Eh?!” You whips around to the steering wheel, turning the boat away. From the back of the boat she can hear Yoshiko muttering some kind of spell to herself in panic before leaning over the side again. She looks fondly at the rest of the group, taking a hold of Chika’s hand.

“Come on. Let’s make the most of your birthday!”

They kiss once more before going back to the others.

 “The neighbours say I make a really good wife...” Chika blinks in quick succession as her eyes darted everywhere but You. “You know...doing grocery shopping and cooking...and the like...”

All the…wifey things wife does…

You simply props her head up on her hand, comfortable where she sits at the dining table, smiling up at the blushing orangehead. “I think so too.”

“Eh?” Chika's expression freezes in a small gaping manner, where she stood with the plates she was going to clear away.

You-chan?

The ash-brunette's body vibrates in a soundless chuckle. “I think you make a greaaaat wife, Chika-chan.”

..!

“EHH!? Wh-Wh-What are you saying so suddenly, Y-Y-You-chan!” Chika grips the plate with one hand while her freed hand waves in the direction of You before covering her face as she looks shyly at You pass the space between her fingers.

You who was still smiling proudly and lovingly at Chika. She stands and crosses the distance between them to take the plate out of her wife's hand. “It's not very sudden is it?”

You-chan is looking at me charmingly. You-chan thinks I’m-

You moves to take the other dishes they finished eating together to the sink, her steps jolly. “You were the one who brought it up after all~”

A great wife to her…

Chika follows after You with an embarrassed and slightly indignant pout. “Even so..!”

“A-and let me do the dishes-”

“Nah-uh.” You turns to give Chika a look that says 'I'm doing the dishes. And you can watch if you like, but you know I won't let you touch them...Because you deserve the rest'. And with Chika knowing she can't win this, she hovers close to You, the sound of water and scrubbing filling the kitchen.

You-chan is such a hard worker.

“You-chan is a great wife too.” Chika breaks the comfortable silence.

You smiles sideways to Chika. “Thank you.”

Chika pouts. “I was hoping you'd be blushier.”

Cute-blushy.

You chuckles as she finishes washing the dishes, drying her hands and wrapping them around Chika's waist. “I've outgrown being blush-easy.”

Chika snorts loudly. “Ha! No way, You-chan! You may not blush as much as you did in high school, but you're still 100, no 1000% blush-easy! You can't lose the title.”

Never.

“Ehh~” You protests as she was betrayed by pink dusting her cheeks at Chika's outburst with being so sure about her being easily flustered.

Chika softens and relaxes in You's embrace, her own hands snaking around her wife's waist, giving You a firm squeeze. “Hey...It's not a bad thing...I love that about you, you know?”

What is with this cute human being?

You breathes out her nose, liking the warmth of Chika's hands on her.

Chika leans close to You's face and the ash-brunette's eyes flutter to a close.

Chika grins, her playful nature leaking and she pecks a chaste kiss to You's right cheek before breaking out of You's hold. “Got ya, You-chan! hehe~”

“Eh?”

“You thought I was gonna kiss you here” Chika taps her lips. “But I kissed you on here~” Chika taps her cheek with a triumph laugh.

You's cheeks turn a deep red at being tricked as she really, really did expect and wanted that kiss from Chika. "M-Mou! Chika-chan! Don't tease me!"

You moves to capture her wife in another hug but Chika jumps backwards, starting a game of tag. She'd let You win in the end anyway. Simply because she loves You's hugs best.

Hehehe~ I’m You-chan’s great wife~ hehe~

Chika laughs as dodged the ash-brunette’s purposefully slow attempts in hooping her arms around her wife and Chika laughed blissfully some more when You does have her in those strong arms and nuzzling Chika’s cheeks and nape.

“Chika-chan…” You calls; tone soft and sweet.

Chika tilts her head, mirth and query in her crimson eyes.

Yeah?

“I love you.” You says, blue eyes shining with the same amount of mirth and a whole lot of affection.

You-chan…

Chika feels a warmth spread through her as her smile grows ever-wide. “Mmph! Me too! I love You-chan too~”

Love, love, love, love You-chan!

You pulls Chika closer by the waist and plants a smooch on her wife’s cheek. “For earlier.”

Chika watches You’s blush bloom as expected and her eyes travel to those alluring lips. Chika mumbles under her breath, “Should’ve kissed you there…”

You coughs indiscreetly; plain as day that she heard Chika’s mumble as she licks her lips out of nervousness. “We- We kiss every day ever since you became Watanabe Chika-chan.”

Uuguu-

“Still. I like it when you kiss me.” Chika puckers her lips out; intending it to be a pout and she was so sure You is still recovering from her blush attacks yet-

..!

You tilts her head to the side and presses her lips to Chika’s; holding it there for a long enough time till she hears Chika’s mew and moan. “Satisfied?”

Baka You-chan…

“Mmph…” Chika nods; her face challenging You’s in redness. “Satisfied.”
