"Müller spielt immer" was iconic for a reason, it should be common sense by now!
It should be for sure but coaches, for different reasons than the public, sometimes has problem with seeing Thomas' value. Or to be more precise I think that they see his value but they tend to think that another player can bring something else that his easier for them include in their plan. By that I mean that the unique profile of Thomas doesn't fit into most of the usual tactical plans, there is no establish tactic that includes a Thomas Müller because there is very few players like him (if there is any); and sometimes it's hard for coaches to rethink their tactics in order to include Thomas in it.

i see you have discovered history professor bret deveraux, my beloved. i highly recommend his battle of helm's deep and pelennor fields series if you want to learn about historical battlefield tactics (and operations and strategies) and his fremen mirage series if you want to learn about the facist view of history and why it's complete and utter bullshit. his series on sparta is also phenomenal
I'm having such a good time working through his back catalogue. AGreatDivorce on Youtube has recorded audio versions of many of his posts, which is a godsend for me.
The Fremen Mirage series was a balm to my soul after having to deal with SO many "military history buffs" and SFF reply guys who think that violence is the pinnacle of human achievement, and therefore acknowledging the personhood of anyone but the apex warriors is like, taking resources away from the war effort or something.
For the uninitiated, the "Fremen Mirage" is what Devereaux calls a "pop theory of history" that believes:
that a lack of wealth and sophistication leads to moral purity, which in turn leads to military prowess, which consequently produces a cycle of history wherein rich and decadent societies are forever being overthrown by poor, but hardy ‘Fremen’ who then become rich and decadent in their turn. Or, as the meme, originally coined by G. Michael Hopf puts it, “Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And weak men create hard times.”
And then in his series he applies rigorous historical analysis to this idea, and takes it apart like Christmas wrapping. It's almost as fun as the Sparta series, where he demonstrates that Spartans would hate their modern fanboys, and also aren't actually as special or amazing as they're made out to be.
After a while, though, I got tired of the military side of things, and gone wandering. What I've found most refreshing this week were posts that take a step back from direct pop culture criticism and just simply lay out the material realities of life in the past. The really basic building blocks that help us get in tune with the daily life of the past. Stuff like the Lonely City series.
Or the clothing series! I said that I've been trying to figure out just how rare or common looms were, and while I've been looking at archeological evidence of loom types, he's just found the numbers that let me calculate it.
I'm using a base unit of 5 yards of cloth, which is, with a generous hand wiggle, enough to make one person's outfit, maybe two.
According to these estimates:
In the early middle ages, using a hand spindle and warp-weighted loom, that might take about 70 hours of weaving and, at a low estimate, 500 hours of spinning. If someone devoted eight hours a day to nothing but spinning yarn, it would take them over two months to have enough to weave with.
In the Late Middle Ages, with the invention of the spinning wheel and horizontal loom, that figure would go down to 180 hours of spinning and 30 hours of weaving. The change in technology reduces the time down to almost a third of what it was before!
This really settles for me the question I had about my early-medieval fantasy setting, which is that there would be a lot of looms, a loom in every household, and that it would not at all be out of place for even aristocratic women to spin and weave on a regular basis.
Which like, to be cranky about fantasy heroines who hate sewing: In that kind of world, embroidery is a luxury. Weavers and spinners have to bust their butts just to put clothes on everybody's backs. Spinning and weaving that much is gruelling work that I would absolutely understand hating. However, it is not stupid, silly, or useless. Being able to embroider—to do something primarily decorative and artistic, just because it looks good and feels nice—is likely to be more of an escape from drudgery than the drudgery itself.
It really can't be overstated, how much the Industrial Revolution was a textile revolution. Our relationship to cloth and clothing has transformed out of all recognition over the last 300 years. There are undeniable advantages to this, because it frees us to do so many other things with our time. But it also makes it tough to look back into the past clearly, because it's so easy to forget that the burdens we've shed still existed back then.

Hello! So i have this idea of a Linksona of mine if you don't mind listening to it.
This Linksona title is The Hero of Freedom, he is actually a complete nobody wannabe bard before the whole adventure happen, so the Chain could also call him 'Bard/Musician'. He belongs in the downfall timeline and his Hyrule is kinda of a mess because Ganondorf is the current Ruler of his lifetime, having killed the royal family of Hyrule way before the spirit of the Hero could have reborn.
This Link of mine actually had a mother who was a priestess of Hylia, his mother still has hope in the Goddess even after years of suffering under Ganondorf rule and his severe punishments to those caught still worshiping the Goddess or having any type of rebellious behavior, Link mother managed to savage a Golden Harp thought to be the original Harp that Hylia used from the ashes of the old church where she prayed, she gave her son the name 'Link' because she wanted him to be as brave as the hero of Legend, Link mother would often play her harp to her son and sing to him and tell him stories about the heroes of the past, she always told him the importance of being kind and brave even in the most severe of circumstances, she wanted him to be able to feel hope even when none existed. Link mother ended up dying, killed by Ganondorf followers when Link was 13, she left him her harp and made him promise not to hate the people of Hyrule for their fear of the Demon King and to not let hate weight in his heart.
Link was pretty much alone after his mother death, he ended picking up his mom musical talent and played his harp and sang regularly, although he was sometimes getting thrown at him, he met Zelda at the age of 14 and his adventure started there.
Zelda is 19 in this timeline and is actually the leader of a rebellion against Ganondorf, she was saved still as a baby and was raised by Impa so she doesn't know about much about royalty life, but she knows to kill a man, so there's that, she is actually pretty no nonsense and is focused on battle tactics and fighting rather than magic, although she has the triforce of wisdom, she actually met Link when she was trying to shrug off one of Ganondorf guards, and he appeared out of nowhere and chucked a glass bottle at the guys face, the guard then attempted to kill Link and Zelda put a dagger to the guy's throat.
Zelda was pretty prepared to give Link the scolding of his life, but the racket they caused ended up catching the attention of more guards, and she ended up picking the kid like a sack of potatoes and fleeing the scene. She was not exactly happy that the 'Chucking a bottle at a guy two times my size is a good idea' kid is the fricking Hero reborn, actually the thought of having to train a 14 old to kill a freaking adult demon man makes her nauseous and start to curse the Goddesses to high heaven, she eventually relents and keeps a Hawkeye on Link in his journey to make sure 'everything goes according to plan' (She is actually worried, but doesn't want anyone to know).
I see Link and Zelda having a very much Big sister and Little brother relationship in this timeline, Link does lookup to Zelda and think she is the coolest person ever and Zelda thinks Link will be the reason she goes white early because the kid never stopped picking fights with things that are a hundred times his size.
That my Linksona, hope you found it interesting!
I really like this au! XD
Link is still Link no matter what and Zelda is ready to kick butt as always!
Would that make Impa the grandma or very tired aunt?
Poor Link though, destined to not have family. :(

Chronorun Reports notes:
Van Helsing, Jekyll, and Mrs. Frankenstein (Victor's mom) are siblings with Abraham and Henry being twins and Caroline being a few years younger (specific ages will have to wait until my brain decides that doing math is worth it)
(they are all a mix of Dutch, British, and Swiss btw)
(yes this means that Victor is Van Helsing's and Jekyll's nephew)
Van Helsing formed the HOSC to essentially bring light to all of the scientific discoveries that are happening (Jekyll's serum, any supernatural being he encountered, the time machine, Victor's creation, Griffin's invisibility, and more) but not without the house members' consent
Now let's get into the plot- a good amount of people in this universe have powers (almost all of the members of both societies have powers)
They are as follows:
Van Helsing- gains an ability of whatever type of entity he conquers (if he were to slay a vampire he would only get one of the abilities shared within all vamps. Ie teleportation) as well as natural immunity to most (not all) supernatural attacks and anomalistic mastery (or that could just be from his job)
Jekyll- technically he speaks to Hyde through telepathy as well as having telekinesis
Hyde- telepathy like Jekyll (because of course) and the ability to teleport objects and people away from and to him
(Jekyll and Hyde are forced to work together because they are not able to do what the other can as well as the other)
Victor- weather control (I just wanted to reference the movies, I think he would use it to help him animate the creation)
Griffin- now I know you might think that I'm going to make his invisibility his power, but that's not the case. He can however talk to animals, he just doesn't want anyone to know.
Time traveler- let's get the obvious out of the way, he can see any point in time (past present, and future), and it proved very helpful (but overwhelming and contributes to his time blindness)
Sherlock- like the time traveler, he could be obvious (giving him some kind of hyper-intelligence) so I'll give him tactical analysis and the hyper intertellince (or he could not have the ability and just be that smart, I haven't decided yet)
Watson- since he's a physician and royal army surgeon (according to Wikipedia), giving him a healing ability (more so healing others) would be a fair but obvious move. However, I want his medical knowledge to be utilized (meaning he would use actual medical practices instead of relying on powers) so the proper techniques would still have to be used (more so internal and really bad external wounds, broken bones, and deep/wide cuts being examples)
Gwen- now she could be a little difficult (considering the fact she is someone else's oc and I'm a bit scared to ask because it might look like I'm stealing their idea) so I'll move on for now. (she could have enhanced reflexes as it would be really helpful)
Switching gears to more general ideas (I'm looking for a reason to segway into the investigative committee's powers)
Griffin and the time traveler don't use their names for reasons they'd rather not admit (it has something to do with their experiments)
Van Helsing and Jekyll may make it look like they hate Victor (because he's an irresponsible, spoiled, college dropout who can be a bit of a nervous wreck at the most inconvenient times possible) but they're still trying to help him get over everything (and to take some god damn responsibly for once in his life)
Van Helsing and Watson are transcribing past journals, audio logs (the series takes place in the 21st century), and more as a part of the whole "bring light to all of the scientific discoveries that are happening" thing the HOSC does
The HOSC is very queer (not really with each other but you know)
Jekyll is a trans, ace, gay man (maybe Hyde too, he hasn't really thought about it, both he/him though)
Victor is pansexual and nonbinary (he/they)
Griffin is a bi demi-boy (also he/they)
Sherlock seems to be more interested in his work than in relationships (aroace cis man)
Watson is more open to the idea than Sherlock is though, at some point being stated to have said "I think everyone looks nice, does that mean im attracted to everyone? No not everyone, but certain people attract me more than others." (doesn't put a label on gender either but uses he/it/they)
Time Traveler is a theatre kid so he is probably the most open with his sexuality and gender (gay nonbinary dude using they/it)
Again, I have no idea for Gwen as she is not my character (well none of them are, I might have one at some point but thats not what I'm here for) so I either ask the creator or leave her as unlabelled (which might not be a bad idea actually) although the picrew shows her as aroace
Van Helsing might be the only straight one (I say might be because he doesn't know, still uses he/him though)
Now for the Missing person's investigative committee: they are in charge of finding out the who, where, what, why, when, and how of missing person cases
Utterson and Poole started it after Jekyll faked his death, which happened about a week after Van Helsing got back from killing Dracula (so it was like 7 years ago based on Quincey jr's age in the main story)
I'm now imagining a very stressed Van Helsing hearing about his brother supposedly killing himself because his latest experiment went tits up (excuse me while I try not to cry)
Their powers are:
Utterson- since he's a lawyer, giving him something like Holmes' hyper-intelligence (if it's his ability at all) is kinda obvious so some kind of adaptive ability could be fun (body language analysis could be useful)
Poole- super speed to help him with all of his duties (and in case of emergencies)
Mycroft- I kinda want his to be out of the park but still useful in a way, fuck it he can turn off others' abilities either by touching them or snapping his fingers
Walton- some kind of internal GPS for his traveling
Kemp- I tried reading the invisible man wiki to see what kind of doctor he is (he did go to a medical school so that could help) but couldn't really find anything so im going in sorta blind. I'm just going to make him a shapeshifter
Now that that is out of the way, few more things until pride shit
If someone pisses off Mycroft, their powers are just gone for the day (which could be devasting if they piss him off during a very important mission)
Walton being the youngest (younger than Hyde but older than Victor) means he is often the fastest and most agile of the group (until Poole uses his super speed obviously)
He's basically the group's son (at least to most of them, Mycroft might have some warming up to do)
Now, pride:
Utterson- Jekyll's husband (cis bi man, uses he/him)
Poole- unlabeled sexuality (aro he/it user)
Mycroft- like Van Helsing, he might be the only straight one (uses he/him)
Walton- trans, demisexual man (he/them/it)
Kemp- omnisexual nonbinary (they/them)
@mrhyde-mrseek what do you think?

According to Percy’s goodbye letter, after he dies, he said thatVex would be the clever one in their group. We know that Percy considers himself (and Vex) to be the only adults in the room, but do you think he considers Vex to be on his level of intellect? In her own way, of course. Or do you think, maybe, the only people he considers to be up there are Ripley, Anders, or Victor?
I think you're conflating intellect, cleverness and even arguably wisdom, here?
Like... I don't think Percy considers "cleverness" to be the same thing as "intelligence" or "wisdom". Keyleth can be very wise, increasingly so over the course of the campaign, experience lending her a better understanding and giving her more chances to put these thoughts to words. Grog can be: Grog's got a fantastic grasp of emotional intelligence, combat dynamics and tactics. Intelligence is just... knowing stuff - arguably Tary is intelligent and has an intellect. It doesn't equate to wisdom or common sense or emotional intelligence necessarily.
Cleverness, in Percy-language, I think is problem solving. It's applying what you know. Percy is clever when he figures out the trick with the threshold crests, for example. Ripley is clever for figuring out guns. Raishan is clever for tricking them all and making them work to serve her purpose. These are different things.
(Vex is clever for haggling them better deals and better pay. Vex is clever for keeping the group together. Vex is clever for understanding, even when very few words are said. Vex is clever.)
And, well... Vex has always been the clever one?
Vex may not know as much ... stuff as he does, but she's got common sense, a great grasp of social dynamics, much less awkwardness than he does - she has a social ease he struggles with outside of formal situations. While I think he considers Keyleth to match his intelligence - alongside Ripley or Raishan, for example - I think he knows that Vex is intelligent, experienced and great at spotting opportunities. Vex knows how to apply what she knows and has experienced in ways that work for them. She knows how to problem solve. She looks at the discussions and can deftly redirect them or point out something they're missing: Vex can get things done.
And it's not like Vex is stupid. She reads and researches, she socially networks. Regardless of game stats, Vex can keep up with Percy... and Percy respects that. When Vex asks for his attention, even before he ever indicates any particular interest in her, he gives it immediately and utterly: he knows Vex is one of the cleverest, not just wise as Keyleth is, not just knowledgeable as he and Tiberius are, but able to apply those things.
For what it's worth, Scanlan can also apply those things, but he doesn't always hold the braincell, gets easily distracted by entertaining ideas, and Percy seems to think less of him for the crass jokes while Vax tends to be a bit too reckless and impulsive at times for all he can be pretty damn good at it too sometimes.
Everyone has their strengths. Vex's are such that, despite the limited combat use of a ranger, especially a beastmaster ranger, she is incredibly useful for VM as their primary front-facing member and... I think Percy's always recognised Vex's social power. She handles the group's funds, she's their face, Vex can say a few words and redirect the whole group with ease. Percy was raised around power: he recognises it. He recognises that Vex has it and knows how to use it.
Vex is clever, to Percy, in a way he can't do like she can, and she's intelligent in a way he understands as well. I think he does consider Vex a peer, especially because at times her emotional intelligence outstrips his own (even if she doesn't always practice what she preaches) and so she is, in a way, an expert he can turn to when it comes to things he's less accomplished with. And, in turn, she turns to him for help with things she's less accomplished in - like modifying the broom.
They've always respected one another's skills and appreciated them, and understood that these things all have value.
And, well... Ripley's smart and she replicated guns based on second and third hand reports, but she also made a deal with Orthax (just like him) and didn't have the power of friendship or any morals with which to fight him, so at the end of the day, I think he eventually concludes that maybe Ripley wasn't as clever as all that after all.
Raishan, on the other hand... Raishan absolutely was.

If I may get your thoughts on something. The fandom likes to throw out that because Malia was in a coyote state for x years that's used to say she should still be a child mentally. Not to completely defend him but shouldn't that also be the case for Peter. According to Derek he himself was still in high school when the fire happened. And with Peter being Peter with the flashbacks we probably say he was about 21 22 when that went down. So his selfish ways, although not forgiven, make a lot more sense when you realize this dude is still barely out of educational years. He's smart and cunning but he has no idea how to be an adult about things.

To truly grapple with your question, there are some matters of lore established by the show that I think we all need to bear in mind.
Fully shifted werecreatures possess the cognitive abilities of humans, not animals. Talia understood the importance of the meeting in the distillery and timed her entrance for maximum impact as a high-status alpha. Derek recognized the tactical situation at La Iglesia and made decisions accordingly. Malia was able to analyze the crime scene with Alex's parents while a four-legged coyote.
Werecreatures' physical appearances do not match up with their chronological ages the same way humans do. Noshiko Yukimura looked in her twenties in 1943 when she was near 800 years old and in her forties in 2011 when she was near 900 years old. Satomi Ito looked pretty much the same age in 1943 and 2012. Cora Hale was seventeen "in how you measure in years."
Werecreatures (and humans with a motivation to do so) manipulate human institutions in order for the supernatural to remain hidden. They're quite proficient at it. The Argents had agents placed throughout the government and law enforcement and were able to get Gerard and Victoria installed in the local high school. Jennifer managed to create an entire identity for herself that passed muster. The Hales were pillars of the community without anyone suspecting they were werewolves. We can joke about a Nazi werelion teaching physics, but he was also facile enough to infiltrate the upper levels of the German military.
In other words, while an engaged viewer might question the quality of the presentation of Malia in terms of socialization and emotional development, there's no reason to insist she would have to act like a feral child. She wasn't a coyote, as Scott pointed out, she was a werecoyote. If we're going to accept the supernatural abilities that deny scientific reality -- and we have to in order to engage with the show -- we have to accept the story's rules as they are presented to us.
Which means, unfortunately, that I have to disagree with your second premise, mostly because we can't be sure about Peter's chronological age. His physical appearance is not admissible as evidence nor is the age given on his medical admission papers in Monstrous (4x10). This means that we have to rely on the position taken by the story itself, and that implied that Peter was fully an adult. Neither Young Derek nor Older Derek treated Peter as a peer; Peter always stood in the position of mentor and elder. After all, in Peter's own words when talking about Triskelion: "Talia used it to teach Laura; I tried to use it to teach Derek." Why would Talia put someone she considered a teenager in charge of something as important as her son learning self control, especially after the disaster with Paige? Cora treated Peter far differently than she treated Derek; in my opinion, she treated him like a member of the older generation.
All of the show's characters treated Peter as an adult who should have known better, including Cora, Lydia, Melissa, the Sheriff, Stiles, Malia: all of their words and actions clearly express this point of view. Even villains such as Kate, Jennifer, and Deucalion treated Peter as an adult and a peer. I think Derek's treatment of Peter is the key; I find it telling that Derek treated the twins differently than he treated Peter. Derek never acted as if Peter had diminished capacity or limited freedom to make decisions the way he did with Aiden and Ethan, and it certainly wasn't because he liked the twins better or because they hurt him less. The only person to express hope for Peter's rehabilitation was Scott, and that was seen as such an extreme position that Stiles used it against Scott during their argument in Parasomnia (5x02).
Some people choose to be selfish; some people choose to act ruthlessly and unethically. We're not supposed to believe that everything Peter's done is due to his inability to process the fire and the resulting coma. I've witnessed too many people expressing disbelief that Peter would work with the person who burned his family, and I want to shake them: that's the point! There's no trauma pushing him to work with Kate in Season 4; he chooses to do it because it's the most effective means to get what he wants. Peter is not a victim in Seasons 1-4; he's an opportunist. He uses Kate because she has the power and the history to distract everyone from what he's trying to achieve, just as he used Jennifer's threat in Season 3 to distract everyone from his plans and to remove Derek as a possible obstacle to those plans without killing him.
His selfish ways make sense because he's selfish. He manipulates people to gain power because he wants power. He's not one-dimensional by any measure, but the narrative makes it clear that until he realizes that people exist to be more than just means to his ends he will be an antagonist. Until he accepts that -- which he starts to do in Season 6 -- he will be exactly how Scott described him "always a monster."

Draft but I thought I'd post this before season two comes out and rots my brain even more. Also this was made with a sort've "everything's figured out and everything's fine" sort of vibe in mind so 🤷
My friend and I somehow got onto the topic of what animals the crew members would adopt if they could but it ended up just being us planning a DogDad!Izzy AU
I drew things for it
We are ignoring any historical shit on the breed we chose bc we think it's a perfect fit so yk
Made excuses for why Ed would break his no pets policy
Made excuses for why Izzy would break the no pets policy
The dog's name is Mutt bc that's all Izzy calls him and by the time the crew found out and wanted to try calling him different names, the dog was kinda attached to the name Mutt so..
He's a rottweiler/lab mix (for now). For historical sake, if you want, we can just say a rottie mix. Labs weren't bred til the 1800s according to a very shallow google search.
Doodles!!
Tumblr media
Comic!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notes!! Headcanons!! Whatever have you!!
Izzy didn't plan on asking Ed to keep him, or keeping him at all actually. Mutt followed him, and probably snuck aboard. We thought it'd be funny if Stede and Olu found him since they probably wouldn't know about the whole "no pets policy" thing Ed has. They bring him to Ed and are like "hey look" and Ed's like "wtf, get him off the ship" but somehow, Mutt runs off, finds Izzy and vavoom or something.
Loving the idea that Ed would be convinced that Mutt is a pure bred killer, which is why he allowed him to stay, only to watch him smother some of the crew with kisses and cuddle every fucking day
Izzy and Ed both are literally perfect for the "dad who said no then became the dog's best friend" thing just thought I'd point that out
Wee John or someone sewing him up a bandana so he "looks like a scary pirate dog" <3
Frenchie is excited bc dogs chase cats away, but Mutt just makes friends with other animals so..
The only one who's able to actually ignore the puppy eyes tactic is Buttons. It just feels correct. Izzy and Ed almost can. Almost.
Mutt has to wait outside Jackie's bar when they're there. One of the crew always stays with him.
Really liking the idea of "dog" being a negative term from Izzy whilst "mutt" is somehow more positive so the name wasn't bad in his eyes
Normally sleeps besides Izzy's bed, since Izzy was the first one he got attached to and kinda the whole point of this AU of sorts, but sometimes he sleeps with the crew or Stede. Izzy won't let him stay with Ed alone quite yet, juuuust in case.
Izzy lets him sleep on the end of his bed, most of the crew lets him sleep curled up with them, and Stede doesn't like to let him sleep in his bed for fear of fleas and dirt and etc etc, but also there's no way in hell that man can say no to puppy eyes (I mean look at s1 Ed)
Izzy (maybe partnered up with Stede) tries to train Mutt well, but unfortunately Frenchie and Roach like to "untrain" him in a way, or train him in ways that aren't so Izzy-approved.
Whilst Stede reads to the crew, Izzy reads/tells stories to Mutt.
Roach learning to make dog-healthy treats for him!
It takes a while for Mutt and Ed to warm up to each other but once they do, they're homies. Ed still treats him like he can be a beast but learns not to push anything. "Go fucking kill that crab over there and I'll have Roach make you something real special." "No? Alright fine. No treat for you. Just regular food..maybe a singular treat for your effort."
Lucius turning Mutt into a little model, Wee John and them making him different little clothes to wear for said modelling, and somehow they convince Izzy to sit long enough to be sketched with him once and probably only once. Fang likes to sit and hold him whilst being doodled.
Jim and Mutt having little chats after raids and stuff. "Captain says your a born killer. Same." Mutt can't answer but they know he's listening as much as he can.
That said, Mutt is 100% most of them's personal therapist. He doesn't understand human problems nor has the ability to give them advice, but it's nice to talk about things anyway. My friend is a massive Stede fan so ofc they had to offer up Stede crying but hugging Mutt so it ends up being a good kinda cry. And honestly yeah I dig it.
Izzy's 100% worried that the "no pets policy" is gonna suddenly come back and likes it best when Mutt stays with him bc of it. This is a feel good AU, obviously, but angstwise, Mutt could totally be used against Izzy and the crew.
Fang definitely teared up finding out Mutt was staying, but got attached immediately and 100% wants to help Izzy protect Mutt.
For some reason, Stede gives off "has a pretty bad dog hair allergy, would hug a dog anyway" vibes, so that's something we like to joke about. "Your face is a bit puffy there, Bonnet." "Oh yeah, I'm terribly allergic to canines." "You what?" "I said I'm terribl-" "Get your face out of his fucking fur you absolute twat!"
Mutt likes to roll in mud when on land and some of the crew probably think "why not join him" every single time. Who? Idk. But some of them.
Mutt joining in on the fuckeries. Somehow.
The Swede singing and Mutt howling with him.
Frenchie singing and Mutt howling with him.
Izzy yelling at someone and Mutt barking/growing with him.
For the most part Mutt is an absolute sweetheart, but Izzy is his dad, and he's a fast learner. 100% acts all vicious whenever Izzy's feeling aggressive (but it's mostly an act and he just kinda idly stands by Izzy like "yeah I'm tough shit too" then goes back to acting like a puppy the moment Izzy shuts up).
Okay that's all for now, good night, AND SEE YAH WHEN SEASON TWO AIRS!

Okay. They asked for it, and I am unleashed.
All those seasons of noting and storing every tiny hint, finally put to good use.
I present:
Why That Twist makes no sense at all.
(spoilers for DS9 S5E16, and many episodes along the way. this is a thorough analysis of everything wrong with that episode's revelation.)
First, I'll go over what little may support this plotline.
We know that Bashir either has no family or a poor relationship with them.
Evidence:
Armageddon Game - When Sisko believes Bashir has been killed, he asks Dax to "find out how I can contact Julian's family". Clearly this isn't a family he speaks about much or has introduced to his Starfleet circle.
Homefront - Before Odo leaves for Earth, O'Brien asks him to check on his family. Odo asks Bashir if he can do a similar favour, and is answered negatively.
However...
In "Melora", Bashir says his father was a Federation diplomat on some remote planet. Is this the irresponsible drifter we see onscreen? It hardly seems likely.
Let me also note that mirror!Bashir doesn't seem developmentally disabled in any way, and surely he wouldn't have had access to this gene therapy? (this doesn't prove anything, though - it could just support our Bashir's indignation that his parents made this decision after judging a six-year-old.)
Now, to break down the actual claims of the episode.
First, the idea that Bashir's physical ability has been greatly improved - to practically superhuman levels, if that ending "gag" (I use quotes because it feels incredibly mean-spirited and I hate it but that's another matter) is to be believed.
This is pretty easy to contradict.
He's a good athlete, yes. Captain of the Academy racquetball team according to "Rivals", and a good enough tennis player to at least consider playing professionally - the statement in "Melora" that he was out of his depth in official tournaments seems to be contradicted by "Distant Voices", but this is said by someone trying to mentally break him and he doesn't seem fazed by the claim.
But surely if that were the case, we wouldn't see him lose fights nearly as often?
He gets better at defending himself with time, but is rarely able to take on a capable opponent single-handedly. If I may make an analysis...
Dax - His combat style is clumsy and amateurish. He goes down within seconds. This could be attributed to being unprepared for a fight, but considering how easily the guard takes him out I'm highly skeptical.
The Storyteller - He bursts into combat to help O'Brien fend off an attacker, but is barely able to hold his own; in fact, he becomes the one in danger after intervening, and it's O'Brien who pulls the now-distracted opponent off him.
The Alternate - His struggles appear to be completely useless here, from what I can tell the tentacle releases him of its own accord.
Armageddon Game - He spends most of the fight taking cover, and when he does attack it's from behind. His tactics are again clumsy, his struggle to take down one man very obvious besides O'Brien's skill.
The Wire - Garak has a lot more experience, and he's holding back so as not to hurt a friend. Even with that considered, though, he doesn't come off too well.
Crossover - He manages to stun a guard and grab a phaser. Considering how he goes about it though, I honestly think he got lucky and the guard simply wasn't expecting anything of the kind.
The Search pt 1 - The fight scene is difficult to follow, but he seems to knock down one soldier and then get pinned. His combat style does look marginally better, I think.
Past Tense pt 1 - He takes down one man, then seems equally matched with the other. At the very least his technique has improved.
Our Man Bashir - The opening scene doesn't count, as it's very obviously programmed to happen the way it does. I'd say it's pretty telling that he only grazes Garak, though - holding back on a friend could be an excuse here, but if the dialogue is to be believed he was shooting to kill. And surely, with his supposed skill, he wouldn't have missed?
Nor The Battle To The Strong - This is an extreme situation, but it's still possible that improved reflexes should have enabled him to reach the runabout without being knocked out.
By Inferno's Light - He takes an occupied Jem'Hadar by surprise with an improvised knife. This is the most effective he's ever been at close quarters, and honestly I was surprised even allowing for the fact that he's not unarmed.
Honestly, after actually going through every fight he's involved in he's even less of a soldier than I thought.
And that's not mentioning that he and O'Brien are canonically evenly matched at darts according to "Accession", and the excuse that he's been letting O'Brien win feels very feeble considering he could have done the same with Morn if he were rigging the game for fairness.
I think the idea of physical enhancement is adequately debunked.
When it comes to the mental side, things appear less clear. There's no doubt that he's highly intelligent, so I won't contest that. (Note, however, that according to Dax in "Armageddon Game", he had to work very hard to graduate as well as he did - and we know from multiple accounts that he only graduated second in the end.)
What I will take issue with, however, is psychology. He doesn't act like a person in his situation would be expected to, and we get no hint of it from our looks into his mind.
Begin psychological profile, Dr. Julian Subatoi Bashir.
Comes in very naïve, even dangerously so. His early episodes have shades of Simon Tam to me: a pampered boy from a wealthy family, who's had everything handed to him until he didn't. This is what I expected out of his backstory reveal.
Highly extroverted, slightly in love with his own voice. Enjoys making new friends (and lovers), but gets nervous around less outgoing people. Doesn't always pick up on social cues like when to shut up.
"Ambitious" is the word used in-universe, but I think "enthusiastic" might be a better descriptor. He wants to see everything, do everything, have every exciting experience he can.
Very self-assured, bordering on arrogant. He's thoroughly aware of his skill in the medical field, and proud of it.
Excellent bedside manner, and high emotional intelligence. More than any other character, he can handle difficult emotional situations competently and give good advice, especially on matters of the heart.
Always determined to come out on top, whatever the odds.
Gentle and compassionate, unable to let anyone suffer or die when there's the slightest chance of saving them. Refuses to become hardened or cynical in the face of a moral dilemma.
And he does have a very boyish side to him, delighting in role-play and friendly banter.
As to his inner conflicts, we have little information.
To return to "Armageddon Game", Dax says that his school diaries mention a constant fear of failure. (We'll be coming back to those diaries one last time before this is over)
In "Distant Voices", Altovar tries to rattle him by claiming he always gives up when a situation gets tough. We see this to be false on countless occasions, though, including in that same episode.
The only real insecurity we see from him is in "Explorers", when the valedictorian of his class arrives on the station, and it seems he still hasn't gotten over placing second. As it turns out, his competitive streak has misled him and he mentally blew the situation far beyond its actual status.
Now, let's compare that to how this backstory reveal would likely have affected him.
Being developmentally delayed as a child is actually a detail I like. It explains his tenacity and pride in his accomplishments. Unfortunately, that's just about all I approve of here.
At the age of around fifteen, he finds out that his parents, disappointed by his early struggles, had him genetically enhanced to remedy them.
The people whose job it was to care for and support him decided that, instead of trying to figure out why their son was having difficulties or accept that, at the age of six, he was lagging behind his peers, it would be easier to have him fixed through radical alteration.
(I'm not going to discuss the parents' side of the story or whether the justification holds up. It's not their psyches being examined here.)
A teenage boy, shining at everything he does and happy at his success, realises that he was born a totally different person.
He feels betrayed, all his accomplishments suddenly undermined. He feels as though his true self were murdered in that hospital as a six-year-old; himself a literal changeling, a perfect child replacing fallible humanity.
(This casts an interesting light on his being the only cast member effectively replaced by the in-universe changelings, let alone twice. But as I refuse to consider this twist canon, it won't be analysed here.)
And he knows, or soon finds out, that if this were ever made public, his life and his parents' would both be destroyed.
So:
He has a life-changing secret to keep. The people responsible for him betrayed that trust when he was too young to understand what was being done.
Would he really be so naïve about humanoid nature?
Would he not only allow but encourage Dax to read his diaries, even if he thought he'd edited out everything suspicious?
Would he be outgoing and eager to make friends, when every close relationship is a new person to guard his words around?
Would he be so pleased with his talent, knowing how he came by it and feeling so guilty about those means?
So excited by intrigue and espionage, when he himself kept such a deadly secret?
And would he be so willing to forgive those who hurt him, if that first betrayal is always there to torment him?
I don't know about you, but I highly doubt it.

Republics and democracies are not mutually exclusive
I got mad about the latest fascist debating tactic on the Twitters this morning and delivered some prime political philosophy basics. Sharing here as well, because it's important:
---
I'm just gonna say this, because it is so monumentally ill-informed and pig-ignorant to believe the reverse, but it's a popular fascist gateway talking point atm:
REPUBLICS AND DEMOCRACIES ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.
Republics are ruled by representatives of the citizenry.
Democracies are ruled by the will of the people.
DIRECT democracy means every eligible voter votes on every governmental matter. It's incredibly rare and in countries usually means disenfranchising VAST swathes of people.
DIRECT democracy is different to republicanism. DEMOCRACY as a whole, is not.
Some people like to talk of ancient Athens as 'the only true democracy'; they mean DIRECT democracy, and it's only true if you think only adult male 'citizens' being able to vote (about 30%) counts.
Plato wrote The Republic to propose an alternate political system to ATHENIAN democracy.
The Republic is an essential philosophical and political text for many reasons. None of the reasons have anything to do with the actual model of government Plato proposes.
The Republic Plato proposes is, to put it bluntly, batshit. And it has a lot that fascists like. Such as dividing your citizenry into castes that rigidly control what they're allowed to do with their lives, state-controlled reproduction, and banning any kind of art/literature outside state-controlled propaganda.
WE DO NOT READ THE REPUBLIC BECAUSE WE THINK IT DESCRIBES A GOOD MODEL OF REPUBLICANISM.
We read it because it contains the refined expression of many of Plato's other philosophical theories - his ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics - which have been incredibly influential (although his ideas about the Forms are as divorced from modern epistemology and metaphysics as his republicanism is from modern republics).
It's also a great POLITICAL PRIMER as it describes different systems of government we still use to categorise ways of ruling today.
But the fact that Plato proposes The Republic as a critique if ATHENIAN democracy DOES NOT MEAN that republics cannot be democracies.
To the extent that direct democracy worked in Athens, it did so because Athens was a small CITY STATE, and because women, slaves, and others were disenfranchised.
Almost every democracy is a representative democracy as a matter of necessity simply because of the numbers game.
You can't have a referendum on every single thing when your citizens number in the millions. It's simply not practical.
What you do instead is ELECT REPRESENTATIVES via a democratic process. The representatives are charged with voting according to policies that represent the beliefs of those who voted for them.
THIS IS STILL DEMOCRACY.
If there are no unelected heads of state, it's REPUBLICAN DEMOCRACY.
There are other kinds of democracy. The UK is a CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY as well as a democracy. This means that we do have an unelected head of state, but that person's power is significantly curtailed.
King Charles (ugh, RIP Lizzie) retains a number of notional powers (theoretically he asks someone to be his prime minister, asks the PM to form a government, and the armed forces are loyal to him) in reality, if he acted against the will of the people's elected representatives the monarchy would be over.
We elect our representatives democratically, and they vote for us democratically. The people rule, not the king.
The US is a REPUBLICAN DEMOCRACY because they are ruled solely by the people's elected representatives.
Anyone who tells you differently is a fascist who wants to indoctrinate you into fascism.
DON'T LISTEN AND DON'T DEBATE. Debate is essential in any democracy, but not in the private spheres all times and not with those who engage dishonestly. They have no interest in genuine debate. They will start from false premises (such as that republics can't be democracies) and refuse to respond to (logocally) valid criticisms. They will use what Socrates would have called SOPHISTRY: rhetoric that seeks to persuade based on emotive and linguistic trickery not honest, fair, and true argumentative analysis.
---
Credentials: I have taught Ancient Philosophy at a first class British university. I know my shit on this.
You can read The Republic yourself online. It's fun. It's written as a dialogue set at a party.

What do you like about Superman in general? Or at least what drew you to Superman?
When I was a little kid, I was thrilled by the idea of flying. Since I didn't know anything about couples, I was accepting the romance with Lane at face value. I was six and in love with the prettiest girl of my classroom, and she treated everybody like shit and beneath her, so I assumed that Lois attitude was normal in every woman. Now I wonder if Lork fans are in reality little kids, but their viciousness and dirty tactics showed me they are just shitty people.
He is conscious of the great sacrifice the Kents did and the huge love they gave him and he is grateful and fearful he will never be able to pay them back in kind, so he tries to live according to their teachings and moral values. No matter how far in space he is, they always are with him. He extended their love to the whole human species they taught him to love.
He's a godlike individual, with his powers and all, but he tries to stay down to Earth, humble and hard working.
He finally ditched the stupid secret identity. I don't know how it happened, but I'm glad it did. I suggested it several years before it miraculously finally occured.
He said Justice League is not to take humanity to the finish line but to help us when we stumble and fall along the way.
He's loyal to a tee.
He's a positive role model for humans and superheroes as well.
He deserves better writers.
He's the most powerful, but he never refuses help or hesitates to ask for it, He also never denies his help.
He tries hard not to kill, but he has done it when there was literary no other choice or outcome. He's not delusional about it.
He never presumes he has the right to tell others what to do.
He feels he lives in a world made of tissue paper, but still enjoys living among humans.
He willingly sacrifice himself for justice, truth and peace if he has to.
He has voluntarily abandon Earth when he became a danger to others in multiple occasions. Only when he was absolutely positive the peril was over and he was in the clear, he dared to come back.
In spite of being one of the handful of survivers of his lost planet, he keeps its people's culture alive in his Fortress.
He deserves better writers.
He's optimistic even if the odds are against him by far.
He inspires everyone around him.
His smile is his way of saying "Relax, everything is gonna be alright."
He, like Diana, is a hero by choice, not forced by a personal tragedy.
He trusts everyone implicitly. Sometimes he shouldn't.
Far from thinking of himself as infalible, he gave others the weapons to nullify him if he goes rogue.
He sees a brilliant future for humanity and works alongside us to make it so.
He deserves better writers.
As with Diana, these are only part of the reasons.

GigaChad is overrated and is not the representation of the ultimate man or the highest intelligence.
Ernest Kalimov, he's just physicist. The men who are empowered by it are superficial. They don't see his brain or who he is.
What exactly does it do? Are you fighting against gender violence in your country? Are you fighting to stop the war? Do you care about current world problems?
Tumblr media
Has no sense. This meme has been overused.
Do you want a healthy body with muscles? Go to the nutritionist, the psychologist, the gym and start the route. Why do you need to waste time watching a half-naked man posing? Maybe as a joke it fits well, but I'm tired of the fact that he is associated with everything that pretends to be intelligent.
And what is meant by supreme man?
Hypatia of Alexandria (355 or 370 ca - 415 d.C): "(...)He who influences the thought of his time, influences all the moments that follow him, and leaves his opinion for eternity. Regarding the second: do not belittle your thinking. Stand up for your right to think, because thinking wrongly is better than not thinking at all (...)".
Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 - 1900): "(...)The time has come to destroy the concepts of Good and Evil and to offer humanity a new and glorious ideal (...)"
Unlike Socrates and many other later philosophers, Nietzsche did not see the human being as a rational being. He also did not consider that such a state was a good thing, since that vision focused on the Apollonian (reason, ethics, order, self-control, etc.)
Nietzsche denied any role that metaphysics had taken from classical Greece, which he believed had infected philosophy with decadent values ever since. Why? For the simple reason that he considered that these ideas had turned the human being into a wimp, a vulgar slave condemned to wander aimlessly through this vale of tears. A place overflowing with evil in which we have to dwell until the arrival of death, at which time, theoretically, we will receive our divine reward. That is the idea on which we lived until the arrival of Nietzsche: the man understood as a sinner, already condemned, who is born in a hostile world with no other duty than to repair his guilt in order to have the privilege of achieving peace in the world. beyond.
… to Übermensch
Nietzsche considered all of this rubbish. Traits of a weak, repugnant morality. A philosophy that turns human beings into a shadow of what they could become. A mentality of sheep that follow the dictates of the masses because they are not aware of their own greatness that they treasure.
An Übermensch is a person who has reached a state of spiritual and moral maturity superior to that of the common man. He is able to generate his own value system, identifying as good everything that comes from his genuine will to power. This Übermensch does not believe in the things that religions promise after death, he only believes in what is real and what he can see. He is a being who, above all, reasons; although that does not mean that he does not feel.
A new being that answers to no one but himself. That he is not equal to anyone. A fighter, a leader, a creator, a winner. A new man who dominates those around him and decides according to his values.
Tolerance, modesty, prudence, peace... All harmful creations fruit of Christianity and its innate weakness. False virtues that hide the true ones that the Übermensch is capable of achieving and establishing. Pathetic attempts to tame and tame him. Tactics that inferior beings and losers have devised throughout the centuries to stop their superior, distorting values, turning bad into good, immoral into moral, and thus establish a code that puts them in command in instead of its rightful owner.
Although Friedrich Nietzsche was somewhat of a misogynist, he did not hate women, nor did he hate Jesus. This must be understood in the context of the time. I have read "rebuttals" from Christians but in reality they attack his illness, that he never found love and some contradictions and twist his words.
Losers who associate the "hero" of a comic created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, where the latter was the one who created that horrible design.
Not even those two have ever read Nietzsche or know him, and obviously Nietzsche is older than they are. His philosophy has nothing to do with that character. Those who hate Nietzsche even after he is dead, only the vulgar make memes or drawings to distort all his words and make fun of him; in order to manipulate the population, the more intellectuals know how to differentiate and never fall into manipulation.
As Hypatia points out, he did very well in thinking, it doesn't matter if he erred in things. He is a revolutionary who broke paradigms.
He was open-minded, surely at this time, he would update more and other things would come out of his mind.
Like other philosophers or people who think, he left his sentences that are still right.
Thomas Hobbes (1588 - 1679): "(...) Man is a wolf to man.(...)"
Hobbes argues that so that men can live together without falling into anarchy and war, a strong and authoritarian state is necessary. To achieve this it is essential to establish a relationship of sovereigns and subjects between men.
Voltaire (1694 - 1778): "(...)There are truths that are not for all men, nor for all times(...)".
"(...)Idiocy is an extraordinary disease, it is not the patient who suffers from it, but others(...)".
Voltaire insisted that justice and opportunity should be equal for all, a belief ingrained in him since his first imprisonment, in which he suffered discrimination for not being a nobleman. Reason and scientific knowledge had to replace arbitrariness and superstition; and enlightened leaders had to use their power to guarantee an order that acted in the best interest of all members of society without unfairly harming any of them. His defense of equal justice caught on above all among the bourgeoisie and the enlightened aristocrats and inspired the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen on which the spirit of the French Revolution was based.
Nicolás Maquiavelo (1469 - 1527): "(...)A prince who does not worry about the art of war, apart from the calamities that may befall him, will never be able to be appreciated by his soldiers or trust them(...)."
Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642): "(...)Mathematics is the language in which God wrote the universe(...)".
A claim that (apart from the implied "theism") is consistent with the mathematical foundations of all modern physics.
Tumblr media
And why should someone project themselves onto someone to empower themselves? That's not self-esteem.
It is as if they told me that I should empower myself with their feminine version. If I want to have a healthy body, I don't need her. If I give intelligent opinions or have personal achievements, I don't need her to empower me, because they are mine, not hers.
The 'Literally Me' are healthier, because there you are not the character, you only use certain scenes that identify what you are or what you do.
I did that a long time ago but with both genders. And sometimes I could identify with the characters only in certain stories or personality.
And Sasuke is who I like. I feel safe with him, he is that type of guy who will never take advantage or disrespect you. And his style is great, his clothes, his beautiful face.
youtube
Charizma wrote a song that really talks about who Sasuke is, but he also wrote for other characters, I haven't heard it all, but I don't know why something tells me that he is one of those people who don't analyze the work for what it is, he knows the general but still believes that Naruto is a real hero.

Feeling Good: The Drug- Free Mood Therapy for Depression
Tumblr media
Book:- Feeling Good
Writer:- David D. Burns
“Achievements can bring you satisfaction but not happiness”. ― David D. Burns
David D. Burns is an adjunct professor emeritus in the Stanford University School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences.
He is most recognised for having popularised Aaron T. Beck's cognitive behavioural therapy through his immensely successful "Feeling Good" book series.
Burns has received various accolades and awards.
□ 10 Cognitive agile mindset, That Make You Feel Depressed
1)      All-or-Nothing Thinking 2)      Overgeneralization 3)      Mental Filter 4)      Disqualifying the Positive 5)      Jumping to Conclusions 6)      Magnification and Minimization 7)      Emotional Reasoning 8)      ‘I Should’ Statements 9)      Labelling and Mislabelling 10   Personalization
Tumblr media
□ How to enhance your Self- Respect?
·       Keep a journal of your disordered ideas every day.
·       Avoid using the phrase "I should" in sentences.
·       To get rid of the bad, use cognitive therapy.
□ How to recover your Self- Respect?
·       To get rid of bad thoughts, write them down.
·       Deal with issues head-on; don't wallow in them.
□Why thoughts lead to depression?
·       Because your thoughts are what cause your feelings, they cannot demonstrate that your thoughts are true.
·       "How you feel is solely a function of your own feeling of value”.
·       According to Dr. Aaron Beck, the four D's can be used to describe a depressive self-image
      è Defeat
      è Defections
      è Desertion
      è Deprivation
" The most common mental distortion to watch out for when you feel worthless is all-or-nothing thinking”.
□ The three agile principles of cognitive therapy are as follows:
Ø  Your "cognitions", or thoughts, produce your emotions. A cognition is how you view the world, including your perceptions, empathy, attitudes, and beliefs. It also involves how you perceive things and the ideas you tell yourself about other people or things. Because of the ideas you are having right now, you are feeling the way you are.
Ø  When you're depressed, negativity permeates your thoughts on a regular basis.
Ø  Nearly always, the unpleasant beliefs that upset your emotions involve egregious distortions. Although these ideas seem reasonable, they are illogical or simply incorrect, and this distorted thinking is a significant contributor to your misery.
□ Key Facts:-
1)      Depression is not sadness.
·       The contrast is clear: sorrow is the outcome of actual views that accurately depict a sad event, such as loss or disappointment. False beliefs contribute to depression, which is a mental illness.
2)      A swift diversion from rage.
·       The opinions of friends and colleagues might be invaluable when you're stuck since they might be able to see your blind spots. Regarding a situation that makes you feel frustrated, helpless, or enraged, trust their views and actions.
3)      Doing nothing is stealing lives.
·       Doing nothing is one of the biggest ironies of human nature. Some people choose to hold back from experiencing life to the fullest, defeating themselves at every turn as if they were complicit in a plot against themselves.
4)      Awareness of ideation and mood is crucial.
·       Mood disorder is a disease, not a variation of healthy behaviour. By mastering certain fundamental tactics for raising your mood, you can overcome melancholy.
5)      The secret to a fantastic attitude.
·       The ability to dissect any offered work into its component components is a fundamental and obvious self-activation method. By doing this, you'll be able to stop worrying about all the things you have to do.
6)      You won't be happy if you succeed.
·       By doing what you're doing, you cannot acquire value. Although they may make you feel good, they cannot make you happy. Self-worth that is determined by accomplishments, outward appearances, talent, fame, or wealth is "pseudo-esteem”, not real self-esteem.
7)      The epitome of being depressed.
·       I am a Mistake
·       I feel bad.
·       makes me feel ill the ongoing anxiety.
·       I'm terribly sorry
·       Sad and regretful
·       I harbour malice
·       I can't handle this much more
·       I wish I could be free.
·       Nothing I try to accomplish is correct.
8)      Self-defeating feelings result from negative ideas.
·       These are the kinds of ideas that drag you down and give you a bad feeling. One of the most frequently overlooked symptoms of depression is having negative thoughts.
9)      You utilise a formula known as a "silent assumption" to calculate your worth; it represents your self-guiding agile principles and system of values.
“All of your unpleasant emotions are a result of skewed negative thinking”.
·       All of your symptoms have been developing and persisting primarily due to illogical pessimistic agile mindset.
Try to recall a similar negative thinking you had both before and during each time you experience a depressive episode.
·       You can alter your mood by learning to rearrange the thoughts that have truly caused your unpleasant mood.
Your perspective on things is wholly responsible for your capabilities and feelings.
·       How you feel is solely a function of your own feeling of value.
·       All-or-nothing thinking is the most prevalent mental distortion to watch out for when you are feeling worthless.
“Oxygen is a need, but love is a want. I repeat: LOVE IS NOT AN ADULT HUMAN NEED!” ― David D. Burns.

In Wednesday evening’s episode of All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC, Rachel Maddow shared her incisive perspective on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to effectively delay former President Donald Trump’s federal election obstruction trial concerning his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
The high court agreed to hear Trump’s appeal, asserting his position that he has presidential immunity from prosecution. Lower courts have rejected that claim. By taking the case, the Supreme Court indicates that it believes there could be more to decide. Maddow’s comments shed light on the broader implications of the court’s action, emphasizing the profound impact on the principles of accountability and the rule of law in the United States.
Maddow criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to entertain Trump’s claim of presidential immunity as “radical and dangerous,” warning that siding with Trump on this issue could signal to future presidents that they could evade accountability for their actions while in office. This move by the Supreme Court, Maddow argued, is not just about Trump but sets a concerning precedent for the accountability of future presidents, potentially signaling that they could commit crimes in office without fear of prosecution.
“The idea that they’re going to side with him on immunity is unthinkable. And also beside the point,” Maddow said, highlighting the possible tactical nature of the Supreme Court’s decision to delay the trial to protect Trump from facing legal consequences before the election.
“When you talk about the cravenness of the court, Chris, the cravenness of the court is evident in what they are doing with the pacing here, right,” Maddow said. “Putting this off for seven weeks, sitting on it for two weeks for no reason—obviously pushing all of the cases that they can push, pushing them to the point where Trump will be standing for election before any of us have heard the verdicts in any of those cases. Got it. It’s the timing.”
— (@)
Maddow’s critique extended to the potential long-term consequences of the court’s decision. She suggested that if the Supreme Court ultimately sides with Trump’s immunity claim, it would send him and future presidents a message that they could disregard election results and cling to power indefinitely to avoid prosecution. “The conclusion that we can arrive at now based on what they have done without having to wait for the ruling is that they’re ensuring that Trump will not face trial,” Maddow emphasized. According to Maddow, this scenario could incentivize a president who voted out of office to refuse to leave, committing any necessary crimes to remain in power and avoid legal repercussions.
Trump has consistently asserted that he cannot be prosecuted for actions taken during his presidency, claiming broad presidential immunity. This controversial stance has been met with skepticism and outright rejection by several lower courts, which have dismissed the claim as lacking legal merit. Despite these setbacks, Trump has strategically sought to delay every legal proceeding against him, using this assertion of immunity as a central pillar of his defense strategy.
Maddow reflected on the Supreme Court’s handling of the immunity question itself. She pointed out the absurdity of the court considering this as an open question, given historical precedents and the clear implications of presidential pardons, such as Gerald Ford’s pardon of Richard Nixon. “The idea that this has to be taken up is them saying the sky is green,” Maddow remarked, criticizing the court for what she sees as a blatant disregard for established legal and historical norms. This, she argued, is a clear indication that the court is engaging in a deliberate delay tactic to aid Trump politically, undermining the court’s legitimacy and independence.
“I think even for the non-lawyers among us, to be able to say, you know what? The sky is not green even on our worst day,” Maddow said, adding, “This is B.S.”

Peek at Denny Ja’s successful strategy and tactic as a political consultant in his latest essay poetry
In a complex and often unexpected political world, having a reliable political consultant can be the key to success. One of the leading political consultants in Indonesia is Denny JA, Yang Barubaru released his latest essay poem entitled “Peek at Denny JA’s Strategy and Success Tactics as Political Consultants”.    Denny JA, or his full name Denny JAnuar Ali, is a politician, academic, and political observer who has been involved in politics for years. He is famous for his intelligence and expertise in analyzing the political situation and provides the right strategy for his political clients.    In his latest essay poetry, Denny JA revealed the various strategies and successful tactics that he applied as a political consultant. The worst Hunter X Hunter review I’ve ever seen
I came across this anime on my list of anime with an overall score of 1
"HxH is among the many shounen that has been rated poorly that are available. I will summarize my thoughts in one sentence: "If you've been intrigued by HxH due to the fact that you've seen it as greater than a simple shounen don't believe it. this is simply another Shounen." Although I'm not a huge fan of shounen and when you read this review, you'll discover the reason why, so this anime was not created to please me but to give you a wider range of views. I'll look at this show in greater detail.
In conclusion, the HXH poster is a great way to show your support for the anime. It is a well-made poster that is sure to please any fan of the show.
In conclusion, the hunter x hunter poster is a great way to show your support for the anime. It is well-made and looks great, and it is a great addition to any collection.
HxH is a shows where you can witness the quality dropping the first episodes were well-made and then at the end this one has the most lengthy running pacings I have witnessed. Since the art style isn't in any way elaborate and expensive I can't believe they didn't have enough money. I'm guessing they needed to milk their cow to the very end and then stretch manga material that spanned the 20 episodes(in connection to starting) to 60 episodes. The way I described it prior to the show beginning, it was pretty good. It did have a few aspects that didn't make sense, particularly the puzzles, however, it did have a great start and good rhythm. It appeared to me that the beginning intended to surprise viewers by presenting something completely unexpected even if it seemed. The movie also didn't do very well in terms of atmosphere. In certain instances, it actually creates a negative atmosphere to create for the sake of surprise. Characters in the main cast are unproved powerful, yes there are some stronger characters, however, that doesn't mean the idea that a child is physically stronger than an adult man, simply because they "grew growing up among the trees" however this is a contradiction later. However, aside from a few negative things to mention about the beginning, I think the first episode (the first 17-20 episodes perhaps) was fine. It had a purpose and motivation from a character perspective The main story was logical (more than the other episodes) and there was something of what fans call "tactics to fight".
In the next arc, the horror already starts. The motivations of the character were completely ignored and never discussed to create an element of conflict for the purposes of this episode. The motive behind the first episode and the goals they accomplished was totally unimportant and even contradictory when explained in later episodes. The subsequent arcs are brimming in the confusion about what to call things. According to the show, an assassin can physically withstand and able to endure pain. Instead of being sly and deadly and the so-called "mafia" can be described as a group of non-organized idiots that appear to possess a lot of power (they certainly have plenty of money) that is in contradiction in every way. I will be skeptical about the entire world of this show and we're still not sure what the term "Hunter" means or what a Hunter is and what they do. The creators have no understanding of how money functions and this wouldn't be an issue if they hadn't committed a whole episode to make money and later totally unimportant. In addition, the plot is full of complication that goes over the limit of what is considered acceptable. Some of the arcs are empty filler, as they aren't worth the time or do not connect with the ultimate purpose (the motivation of the primary protagonist). There's even a scene in which the main character is trapped in a game of video games and his first thought when he hears is that he is pointless, however, the protagonist doesn't care and continues to continue, which renders the entire arc meaningless and makes one question the necessity of the scene leading up to the moment.
The show is less durable between arcs, with the mafia arc an exception, but it's not a good show. The show is like having a stack of shit with a heap of shit that has an added cherry on top of it. When you watch the later episodes, you reminisce about the previous ones as if they're in any way great, and that's the way this show is.
HunterxHunter is also known to copy or incorporate anything that is popular, it seems. This includes character designs (Robocop) and even complete narrative arcs (the video game Arc that featured card games such as magical the gathering).
The thing that really irritates me is the reality that the show is not a scale whatsoever. The strength and capabilities of each character are totally random and not in order. Even the strength of a character changes throughout the entire anime which makes characters who ought to be strong based on their rank extremely weak, and characters that should be weak, but not strong. It's like when one writer wrote down the hierarchy of all characters and their relationships, and another writer decided because he was impressed by their appearance, and how strong they were.
All of this was basically the first part of the episode. The show was as I said, very poor however it did have some scenes that could be watched and had a decent pace. From episode 80 and onwards the Chimera arc begins. This is the major distinction between the original edition of the HunterxHunter animation and its 2011 version.
The chimera arc has to be the most awful thing I've seen in a long while in the realm of writing. It is impossible to believe anything they say or do, as the design of their characters is insanely stupid. They claim they're an ant, but penguins and a pink panda dressed in a suit are standing there. The so-called Ant-villains even resemble an anti-ant. They wanted the story dark and mature, but they only revealed how juvenile their writing style is. It's amazing that the characters are dying more often in the present, but that's not all of it, with all the changes they implemented. It's as if the death of a character means old and dark. It's the most simplistic approach to it, however, it is a good fit for a shounen.
In this episode, HxH clearly shows how little time they've spent pondering the entire process. The origins of villains and what motivates them were never something that HunterXHunter ever spends time thinking about but in this particular instance, it is completely absurd that an ant-person who has been just born is just as strong as the strongest characters in the entire series. So again. no scale exists. In the absence of time to spend on motivation and personification, the writers believe that they are able to add drama to the story when the villains are dead. Are you freaking kidding me? Yes, the ants killed thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people, and you should now feel bad for them. The drama in this animation is the worst kind of melodrama. It's rushed and reliable, based that it is based on double standards.
In the last episode, the strategies really shine when it comes to sucking. In the past 50 episodes, there was just one fight and there's little to discuss However, the way they conduct themselves is so ridiculous. There was so much nonsense that took place during this arc There was not one episode that I didn't scream about. However, all of these could have been minor issues in the absence of how boring the entire arc was. The reason I don't like the show's "tactics" is that they're so occupied talking about it and everyone believes their strategies are fantastic. Most of the time they chat about nothing and when it comes to the actual tactics, they're utterly useless or a Deus ex machine.
The characters of this show aren't in any way unique. Have you watched Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach and you're familiar with the personality of the principal character? Add on a host of usual characters, and you have all. It's the typical teenage character that is powerful enough to be able to alter the world. In HunterXHunter they did not get overpowered by the main character. However, given how old the main character is as well as the foes he faces in the future, I think it's pretty unreal. It is a very wish-fulfilling character, and not much of an example to follow. I believe there's nothing wrong with the kind of anime that fulfills wishes however they're not for those who are not their age (in mind, of course!). Therefore, to say that this is more than a shounen would be not true.
The music is also quite bad. The best songs were based on classical music, like Lacrimosa in Mozart's Requiem and the rest are dull and boring background music. Artstyle is simple, and the character design throughout this WHOLE show is one of the most awful I've ever seen, but that's just my view. I found it refreshing to see that there was no CGI if I recall the right way.
Overall, this show is nothing more than a shounen. it is perhaps the most poorly written shonen that I've ever seen However, I'm not a fan of this genre, so I only watched only a handful of episodes. If you're a person who enjoys mature content and believes there's something to this show and it's not so popular, do not get caught in the trap and stay clear of this show. In the end, you'll regret it."

For a prompt, what if Wen Xu arrives to burn down the Cloud Recesses while everyone is studying there
Home Alone - ao3
“All right,” Wei Wuxian said, when Lan Qiren announced that the Cloud Recesses would be imminently under attack by Wen Xu and the Wen sect armies, the calm in his monotone voice belied by the wrinkle of concern in his forehead. “We’re going to make that bastard wish he’d never been born, right?”
He was speaking lightly, as he always did, trying to make those around him feel more comfortable, braver, less afraid – his was the language of confidence and arrogance, of never backing down, and he didn’t know how else to speak.
He didn’t mean anything in particular by it, or at least not more than he usually did.
He wasn’t expecting Lan Qiren to look at him and say, “If you have any ideas, now is the time to contribute them.”
-
“So what exactly do you do again?” Wei Wuxian asked, following the older Lan sect disciple around – at least, the man was dressed like a Lan sect disciple, and with a forehead ribbon suggesting that he shared blood with the main clan, too, but Wei Wuxian wasn’t so sure he really was one.
“I blow stuff up, usually,” Lan Yueheng said cheerfully.
That was why Wei Wuxian had doubts.
The man was practically skipping. There was no way he was a Lan.
“Shishu is an alchemist,” Lan Wangji said. His hands were folded behind his back, as always, and he looked tense as might be expected, what with an imminent attack on his home by a colossal army intent on ravaging and destroying everything in its path – but the way he looked at Lan Yueheng was unaccountably fond, as if he were someone he was close to. Wei Wuxian hadn’t known there was anyone other than Lan Qiren or Lan Xichen that Lan Wangji was close to. He was oddly jealous. “Not always successfully.”
“Hey, at blowing things up, I am the most successful!” Lan Yueheng grinned. A moment later, though, the grin faded, and he looked anxious. “Wangji, are you sure you won’t go with your brother?”
“Brother will protect the sect books,” Lan Wangji said solemnly. “I will stay here to defend the sect and the guest disciples.”
Wei Wuxian appreciated that, being one of said guest disciples.
Anyway, it made sense. Lan Qiren had seriously considered trying to send them away with Lan Xichen, saying that their lives were more important than some extra books – other Lan elders hadn’t necessarily agreed, judging by their expressions – but regretfully concluded that adding more people to Lan Xichen’s escape route would do nothing but reveal its existence, dooming all of them.
So they’d split up: Lan Xichen, heading out virtually alone with the most precious Lan sect books, and all the rest of them here to try to resist as much as they could – even Lan Wangji.
Lan Yueheng didn’t try to argue with Lan Wangji, only sighed, sounding as though he’d expected nothing less from him and had only felt the need to make a token protest before accepting it as inevitable. It seemed he really was close to Lan Wangji.
Yeah, Wei Wuxian was definitely jealous.
“All right, then,” Lan Yueheng said, shaking his head and resuming his cheer. “Blowing things up in self-defense plan it is! You’re both talented in music, right?”
“What does music have to do with explosions?” Wei Wuxian asked.
-
The answer, apparently, was a lot – at least when you were an experimental alchemist in a musically inclined sect and you’d developed a way to trigger explosions via certain combinations of musical notes.
-
“So, did you know that Teacher Lan was scary?” Wei Wuxian asked Jiang Cheng, who’d finally returned from helping get all the elderly and children and civilians to evacuate – and refusing to join them, of course, even though he was entitled to go in order to preserve his life, being the heir of a sect and all that, completely typical Jiang Cheng – and was now pacing around, eager for a fight.
“Just because he punished you a few times doesn’t make him scary,” Jiang Cheng said.
“No, it doesn’t,” Wei Wuxian agreed. “You know what does make him scary? Playing music that makes his opponents try to cut their own necks.”
“…what?”
“Apparently he gets really upset when you mess with his students,” Wei Wuxian said wisely.
Unlike Jiang Cheng, he’d had time to adjust to the concept of Lan Qiren being terrifying: they were on the fifth wave of scouts, and this set wasn’t doing any better than the first four, not even when they’d realized it would be better if they stopped their ears with wax before approaching.
That’d only made Lan Qiren shift tactics – and songs.
Some of which had an even wider area of impact.
“Wei Wuxian,” Jiang Cheng said, looking at him suspiciously. “What did you do?”
“I convinced Teacher Lan that guerrilla warfare that destroyed as much of the enemy as possible would be more effective than just trying to defend the sect’s territory, since that was clearly a lost cause,” Wei Wuxian said promptly. “He agreed, but said that he could only do so much since he wasn’t a very good sword fighter. And then I asked him if he knew anything else that could be used as an attack and he said ‘no’ and then he said ‘well, I suppose’ and then he listed off a few things that – according to him – aren’t meant to be used in warfare but, and this is a direct quote, ‘could be put to a destructive use if one so wished it’.”
“And we now ‘so wish it’?”
“Yup. Oh, and watch out for anything that has a Lan sect cloud with a three-looped circle carved into the side of it, and I do mean anything– those explode.”
“Of course they do.”
“Hey! For once it has nothing to do with me!”
-
“I thought you said he said he was bad at swordfighting,” Jiang Cheng said suspiciously.
Wei Wuxian held out his hands helplessly in a ‘don’t look at me’ gesture, trying to defend himself from a sharp and pointy elbow to the side while also not pulling his eyes away from the ongoing battlefield for even a single moment.
“Shufu considers himself to be of average skill at the sword,” Lan Wangji said in the peaceable tone of someone who had been taught the basics of swordfighting by the person in question. The basics of really awesome swordfighting. “His real strength is in music, as you’ve seen.”
“I get that, really, I do, his music is terrifying,” Wei Wuxian said, and meant it completely. Between the two, he’d rather go up against Lan Qiren with a sword, where he’d at least be able to make a decent showing of himself before getting chopped to bits by the man’s fluid and almost seemingly delicate style that was nevertheless highly effective at skewering Wen sect disciples left and right; it would be better than with music, where he might as well just cut his own throat or strangle himself with guqin strings now to save Lan Qiren’s fingers the trouble. “But Jiang Cheng’s still right, okay – why in the world does he consider that to be ‘average’? Who is he comparing himself to?”
Lan Wangji considered the question for a long moment, then finally said: “A statistical outlier.”
-
“I wish we had aerial attacks we could use against the Wen sect’s swords,” Wei Wuxian said wistfully, and next to him Jiang Cheng nodded with a sight of longing – it was so frustrating seeing more and more Wen sect soldiers arriving in groups, like flocks of birds that started to fill the skies because they couldn’t be so easily shot down. “But if we try anything, they’ll just shield against us.”
“Teacher Lan said we can’t use spiritual energy against them, since we’d lose,” Jiang Cheng said, and as much as they all regretted it, Lan Qiren was probably right: they might be better trained than the Wen sect soldiers, might be better cultivators and stronger in spiritual energy individually, but they were young and immature, and at a serious numerical disadvantage.
It would be far too easy for the flying cultivators to stop their flying just long enough to set up a defensive array, block whatever spiritual attack they sent out, and then keep going to find and stab them before they’d even recovered from the energy expenditure.
“I didn’t mean spiritual energy,” Wei Wuxian grumbled. “I just meant, you know, like the explosives we’ve laid in all over the ground – something like that. If we could attach those to something…”
“I don’t think we have anything that flies anyway,” Lan Yueheng said regretfully.
“You have lanterns, don’t you?” Nie Huaisang said, and everyone turned to look at him. “Fill them with something that explodes when disturbed and send them floating into the air. Better yet, write ‘peace’ on the side of them to make it look like you’re making some sort of meaningful gesture designed to shame them. The Wen sect won’t be able to resist kicking them aside as an insult, and that’ll trigger them.”
They all stared at him.
He shrugged.
“We have a lot of defenses set up against invasion, at home,” he said. “And not always the budget to pay for anything fancy, so we’ve come up with some slightly more unorthodox ideas, too.”
“It’s a really good idea,” Wei Wuxian said, suddenly focused on the hitherto ignored Nie Huaisang. Clearly he’d made a tactical error, thinking of himself as the only person who knew how to get up to tricks. “Do you have any other ideas like that?”
Nie Huaisang smiled.
-
“Teacher Lan, I have an idea,” Wei Wuxian said, inserting himself briefly into the clearing near the Lan sect gate where Lan Qiren was sitting to rest in preparation for the Wen sect’s next attack. “But you’re going to hate it.”
“You may proceed,” Lan Qiren said, not looking up.
“Wait,” Wei Wuxian said, blinking. “Really? You’re not even going to ask what it is? Or why you’d hate it so much?”
“There is no time for that,” Lan Qiren said, and finally spared him a glance. He looked tired. “Things will get worse very soon.”
“But we’re winning!”
“No,” Lan Qiren said, shaking out his fingers – even despite occasionally alternating to using the sword when necessary, he’d played his guqin to the point of drawing blood and breaking nails, and was continuing despite everyone pleading with him to stop and swap out for someone else for a while. He’d said that there was no one else on his level, and he was probably right, but still, surely, just for a little… “We are surviving. Do not mistake the two.”
-
“Okay, so,” Wei Wuxian said, rubbing his hands together. “Resentful energy –”
“No,” Lan Wangji said.
-
“Thanks,” Wei Wuxian said to Jin Zixuan, who’d probably just saved his life by stabbing a Wen sect cultivator in the back right before the man had been able to stop Wei Wuxian from activating another series of explosions. “I guess I owe you one?”
“Don’t mention it,” Jin Zixuan said. “How else can I help?”
“I don’t know,” Wei Wuxian said, scratching his head and thinking about Nie Huaisang as precedent. There wasn’t time for schoolyard rivalries right now. “Do you have anything really unexpected that could be used to hurt people? Be creative – they’re guarded against all the usual defenses, so the weirder the better, anything goes. I won’t judge.”
Jin Zixuan thought about it. “I’m pretty sure I have a drug that puts people to sleep?”
“…why do you have something like that?”
Jin Zixuna grimaced. “My father gave it to me along with another one that he said not to use in excess, though I don’t actually know what that one does because that was about when my mom ran in and started throwing things at him. I can’t throw it away because it was a gift from my father, but I put it as deep into my bags as I could so that I’d never have to see or touch it. Ever.”
Wei Wuxian’s nose wrinkled. He’d never before felt pity for Jin Zixuan, but having to put up with Jin Guangshan on a regular basis was pretty bad – much less owing him filial piety.
No wonder Jin Zixuan was so twitchy all the time.
“Okay, so one sleep drug and one…uh…”
“Enhancement. Presumably. Can we throw it at the other side? Maybe turn it into incense and make smoke-bombs or something?”
“You know what,” Wei Wuxian said. “Why not? If nothing else, it’d be distracting, right?”
-
“This doesn’t feel honorable,” Jiang Cheng said, watching the fun. They’d raided the Lan sect’s medicine cabinets and kitchens for other noxious and irritating substances that might make for good smoke-bombs – Jiang Cheng himself had even located a whole patch of something not unlike poison ivy that had been quickly repurposed for the cause. “Strictly speaking.”
“Honor’s overrated,” Wei Wuxian said. “Making the Wen bastards pay for attacking Lan Zhan’s home is what’s important.”
Lan Wangji didn’t smile, exactly, but Wei Wuxian took his expression as a win regardless.
-
It turned out that music could also make plants grow really fast.
According to Lan Qiren, the spell ruined the plants’ nutritional value and made them basically useless.
Well.
Useless if your goal was eating them, anyway.
(First they could grow under their enemies’ feet and attack them, roots and vines twining around them to strangle them, and then they could be used up in the smoke-bombs – two for the price of one!)
-
“Are you sure about not doing the whole resentful energy thing?”
“Wei Wuxian,” Jiang Cheng said. “No.”
-
“Hey, Wei-xiong, do you have or can you create any more papermen?” Jin Zixuan asked.
“Yes, sure, plenty,” Wei Wuxian said. He’d like to say that he’d known he’d one day need such a skill, and that that was why he’d learned the trick so thoroughly, but that was a complete lie. “Why?”
“Nie-xiong, Jiang-xiong and I are going to use them to make a shadow-play to lure a bunch of Wen sect cultivators into another plant-and-explosives trap.”
“…that’s amazing, Jin-xiong,” Wei Wuxian said, marveling. “How do you even think of that?”
“Even I get into trouble sometimes,” Jin Zixuan said, and was startled into an unexpected smile when Jiang Cheng punched his shoulder approvingly.
-
Wei Wuxian was actually having a pretty good time with it all right up until the main force of the Wen sect decided to ignore all their traps and charge straight towards the classroom they’d fallen back to using as a headquarters, and then suddenly he wasn’t having a good time at all.
“Run,” Lan Qiren said, and put down his guqin, drawing his sword once more.
“But we can fight!” Jiang Cheng argued.
“Run.”
“Shufu –”
“Run.”
They ran.
-
“If you don’t come out, I’m going to make him pay,” Wen Xu called.
His fingers were knotted in Lan Qiren’s hair, pulling their teacher’s head back to show how his face was covered in blood, how it was seeping out through his mouth and nose, how one of his eyes was badly bruised and swollen from having been beaten down by sheer force of numbers.
Lan Qiren had made them pay dearly for their efforts to bring him down –
But there were just so many of them.
“How dare he,” Jiang Cheng hissed. “He was once one of Teacher Lan’s students, too!”
Wei Wuxian was holding Lan Wangji back, but only barely; his fingers were starting to go numb from the sheer effort of it. If Jin Zixuan and Jiang Cheng weren’t there to help him hold him down, Lan Wangji would have already given away their position, rushing out to make some futile gesture in his overwhelming rage. Wei Wuxian was focusing with all his being on how much he had to stop Lan Wangji from doing something like that, because if he wasn’t, if he let himself think about anything else for even a single moment, he’d have also run out there, sword drawn, without so much as a care – he hadn’t realized he’d be so angry over it, so furious, so betrayed and horrified by Wen Xu’s cruelty.
Prior to today, he wouldn’t have said he even liked Lan Qiren!
“My students are not so foolish as to fall for so obvious a scheme as that,” Lan Qiren said, his tone as monotonous as it ever was during his lectures – for the briefest moment, Wei Wuxian felt that he was dreaming, that he had merely dreamt everything that had happened: surely it was still yesterday, with Lan Qiren standing tall, safe and healthy, at the front of the classroom, lecturing about one of the Lan sect rules…which one had it been? Shoulder the weight of morality? Have a strong will and anything can be achieved? Be mighty, and others will die for you?
Do not break faith?
Somehow, despite everything that had happened, Lan Qiren’s eyes curved ever so slightly.
“Present company excluded, of course.”
Wen Xu threw him down to the ground, mouth twisting and teeth gnashing with offended anger.
“Beat him,” he ordered his men. “Make it hurt. I want him screaming – let’s see how his precious students like that. Or maybe it’s just that they don’t care?”
-
“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji said, eyes red with unshed tears and barely swallowed rage. “Tell me your idea about resentful energy.”
-
“Perhaps,” Lan Qiren said, then paused briefly to cough up some blood. His voice, when he resumed speaking, was hoarse. “Perhaps I should have reviewed your idea more closely when you first proposed it.”
“Possibly,” Wei Wuxian said, offering up some cloth to help wipe away the blood. Lan Wangji was busy bandaging his uncle’s injuries up, while Jiang Cheng, Jin Zixuan, and Nie Huaisang hovered by the door, only barely pretending to be keeping a lookout the way they were supposed to. “In my defense, I didn’t quite expect…that.”
Everyone politely did not ask him to elaborate.
The effects had been…well, it turned out using resentful energy the way Wei Wuxian had thought was possible, to say the least, and also that they’d taken down an awful lot of Wen sect soldiers in their defensive efforts.
“You will all have been affected by the resentful energy you used to summon the corpses,” Lan Qiren said. “Although the method you devised appears to avoid the most immediate consequences, which – let me remind you – include qi deviation and death in some instances, there is always the possibility that it has left traces of resentful energy within your meridians. If it is allowed to build up, it will escalate into a backlash that would rip your body and soul to pieces. There are spells and songs that can help clear your spirits and ease the effects.”
“Nie Huaisang has been playing some of them for us, since he can’t fight,” Lan Wangji said. “Nie sect ones – they’re…uh, not especially calming, more of a cleanse-by-force thing, but they seem to be working.”
Jiang Cheng nodded. “We’ll listen to any others that you’d like, Teacher Lan,” he said, anxious, and the rest of them nodded. “Just say which ones. If there’s any array or anything – or if you want us to write an essay about why using resentful energy is dangerous and wrong –”
Even Wei Wuxian nodded at that – even Nie Huaisang nodded, and he hated essays more than anything.
Lan Qiren huffed lightly. “Now you’re all so obedient.”
They all bowed their heads.
“…you did a good job,” Lan Qiren finally said, and they all looked up to stare at him. “You rescued me and repelled the Wen sect, however temporarily. Even though you used demonic cultivation, which is forbidden, you did not purposefully disturb graves, and you can make recompense to the spirits later. It was well done, and I thank you for it.”
He noticed that they were gaping and frowned at them.
“What have I taught you?” he scolded, and he sounded enough like he normally did that Wei Wuxian had the sudden urge to burst into totally inexplicable tears. “The preservation of human life is the priority, always. Why is this a surprise?”
“Shufu is right,” Lan Wangji said, and there was something of peace and calm in his eyes, the foundation of his world steady and unfaltering – he was almost glowing with it, satisfied and happy, and he was so utterly beautiful in Wei Wuxian’s eyes that it was almost blinding. “We acknowledge Teacher’s words.”
“We acknowledge Teacher’s words,” everyone else quickly agreed.
Lan Qiren shook his head, nodding in appreciation. “What is your next step now?” he asked. “The Wen sect was only repulsed, not defeated. They will not be gone long – they are already regrouping outside our gate, and this time they will be prepared for the effects of your demonic cultivation. In the end, they still have the advantage of numbers.”
“I don’t think we got as far as that in our plan,” Wei Wuxian said, rubbing the back of his head.
His thinking had mostly stopped at get Teacher Lan back and make them pay. He was pretty sure the same was true for Lan Wangji, and probably all the rest of the, too.
“Maybe you didn’t,” Nie Huaisang said with a sniff, and damnit, Wei Wuxian really needed to stop underestimating him just because he was a bad cultivator and a bit empty-headed. “I, on the other hand, sent a message back to my da-ge way back when this first started, and he should be here very soon with an army of his own.”
-
There were those in the Jiang sect that liked to mock the Nie sect as being unduly paranoid, always preparing for war and speaking grimly of its inevitability, always training their disciples and soldiers as if each one of them would need to fight five or ten of the enemy at once.
If Wei Wuxian ever met any of those people ever again, he was going to punch them in the face.
“Just be sure to get your sect ready when you get back,” Nie Mingjue advised them all grimly when it was all done and Wen Xu’s head was stuck on a pike at the entrance to the Cloud Recesses as a warning. The Nie sect’s forces were smaller than the Wen sect’s invasion force, but their people were better trained; even after flying all the way from Qinghe, they’d come down on the remaining invasion force like a hammer. “This isn’t over, not by a long shot.”
“We understand. There is still war to come.”
“Not just war, but uneven and unbalanced war, and not in our favor,” Nie Mingjue said heavily. “Understand that even with this loss, the forces of all the cultivation world put together can’t match up to the armies under Wen Ruohan’s command.”
