Silence. That's all he can hear. He bites his lip nervously, trying hard not to glance at his wife in the passenger seat. He was too scared to see what mood she was in.
A hand is placed on his thigh. He looks down and the first thing that catches his eye is the wedding ring that adorns diamonds.
"Are you okay, baby?" She asks him. He glances at her to see her eyebrows furrowed. He nods quickly and turns back to the road. "You are not okay, I can tell." They stop at a red light and he looks at her fully.
"Your parents still hate me, especially after we both eloped not too long ago to Hawaii for our wedding." He mutters. Elsa rolls her eyes and removes her hand from his thigh.
"You still on about that?" Hans nods. "I messed up your life. If you just married the guy your parents chose for you you wouldn't have your parents hating you too for this decision." Hans says.
Elsa blinks and shakes her head. "The guy they chose for me was a guy who had been after my ass for quite a while now. I never paid attention to him, after all, someone else had caught my attention back then." She says playfully, not before winking at him.
Hans groans. "I got you evicted from your home. I'm such a bad husband already and we haven't been married for more than six weeks." Hans says with a shrug.
She giggles at his frustration, how worked up he gets for being a bad husband. "I disagree with you about being a bad husband. You are not all that bad. For one you seem to be pretty good in bed."
Hans's eyes widen in shock. "Elsa Westergaard!" He exclaims. She laughs and points at his blushing cheeks. "You should see your face." She says, still laughing. Hans mumbles under his breath as he stops the car in their driveway.
"It still doesn't help that the fact is you got kicked out of your home." He says. Elsa cups his face and kisses his lips quickly. That is the only way to shut him up. "Darling, you are my home." She says proudly.
He looks at her intently, memorizing each freckle that adorns her cheeks. Her blue eyes making him think it's the ocean he is staring at which is calming his nerves. "Thank you, Snowflake." She shakes her head and kisses his lips once more.
"Don't thank your wife." She says playfully. He chuckles and shakes his head. "You are my home too, love." Elsa's heart warms.
"I love you." Those three words has Hans hooked, especially when it comes out of her intoxicating lips that he can't get enough of.
"I love you too, Snowflake." He lifts her into his arms, causing her to yelp in response and she quickly wraps her arms around his neck. "You are crazy." She mumbles as Hans takes them into their home. "Only for you." He says.

I've never participated in a helsa event before (nor do I post on tumblr) but I'm super happy to this year! Lets all hope and pray disney's gonna give hans that long awaited redemption. :,)

Should Hans Make a Return?
One of the burning questions that some have for Frozen 3 is if Prince Hans, the twist villain from Frozen, should return in the next film. He was absent in Frozen 2, only mentioned in passing, which was met with indifference from most Frozen fans, but disappointment from fans of the character who believed he was getting a redemption arc.
This idea originally stemmed from an interview with Hans' voice actor Santino Fontana who had hinted at the possibility that he may return. He mentions that the writers told him that they want to bring him back and redeem him. You can see this interview here, the Frozen segment lasts from approx. 15:35 - 19:35.
However, F2 had Elsa say that Hans is an irredeemable monster, and the songwriters had once compared him to a politician they don't like - giving off the impression that this wasn't actually considered, or the idea was scrapped.
The option has once again presented itself for Frozen 3, and I wanted to discuss the possibility and if he should even make a return.
Hans After Frozen
Hans' last film appearance was Frozen Fever in 2015, where we see him shoveling horse manure before being hit by Elsa's giant snowball.
Later that year, Hans appeared in the novel A Frozen Heart, where his point of view was explored alongside Anna's during the events of the first film. We learned quite a bit about his backstory, but this book's canon is debatable due to it being retconned by A Forest of Shadows in 2019 (the book gives a different description of what happened after Anna was hit by Elsa's magic).
Speaking of Forest of Shadows, Hans actually does make a brief appearance in this book. He appears in Anna's nightmare, one that shows her fear of Elsa thinking that Anna is useless to her.
The dancer bowed, the silver wolf mask nearly tipping off his nose. “As you wish, Princess Anna.”
The blood in her veins turned to ice. Anna knew that voice. It was a voice she didn’t want to hear again. She peered uncertainly through the dark eyeholes of the mask. “Prince—Prince Hans?”
“The very same.” A diamond ring suddenly materialized in his hand.
“Your sister said I should give this to you when I ask for your hand.”
“My—my hand?”
Hans grabbed her wrist and jammed the ring onto her finger. “Your hand in marriage, of course. Your sister has given her blessing. She has no use for you.”
-Frozen 2: Forest of Shadows
Hans of course makes an appearance during live shows, most notably during the musical, and is given his own song, Prince Hans of the Southern Isles. In F2, other than a brief mention during their charades game and Elsa later destroying his memory in Ahtohallan, Hans is, as said, absent in the story. As a side note, he also appears in Once Upon a Time's season 4 non-canon spin-off as a villain.
Other than these instances, Hans has yet to make a return as a character in the mainline story.
How Hans Could Benefit Anna's Development
One thing we have to consider is that Hans is part of Anna's story more so than Elsa's. Yes, the two interact, but Hans was always a bigger part of Anna's overall development. I bring this up because many Hans fans that are also Helsa (Hans x Elsa) fans tend to hyper-focus on how his return would affect Elsa - when Elsa would largely be irrelevant to his return in reality.
Thus, let's refocus the conversation back on Anna. After all, it was Anna who Hans hurt and manipulated. If we're talking about him returning either as a villain or with redemption, it would directly affect Anna in one way or another.
As of Frozen 2 - Anna is the Queen of Arendelle, is engaged to marry Kristoff, has Mattias as an advisor/General, and works with Elsa in the Enchanted Forest to ensure peace.
Anna being Queen opens up some interesting narrative opportunities with Hans. His main goal was for Anna to become Queen so he would be her King. Thus, now that Anna is Queen without him, how would Hans view this? How would he react?
More importantly, how would Anna react to his return? Would she immediately shun him and give him another punch? Would she be afraid or nervous, with the writers exploring any trauma Anna may have from him? Basically, if Hans is brought back, it would actually give some interesting development opportunities for Anna and, to an extent, Kristoff.
Thus, Hans could actually make a return if his story is somehow integrated into Anna's development.
Villainous Return or Redemption?
My personal preference would be for Hans to return as a villain and, as described above, to be a development point for Anna to overcome. It would also benefit the series so that we wouldn't have to introduce a brand new villain character to develop on top of the already over-stuffed cast list. Hans already has his villain backstory and relationship with Anna, so it would be less work to make him the main villain and explore his already-established lore. I would also love it if he had a pretty amazing villain song since the series has been lacking in this department for a while.
When it comes to redemption, I don't mind the concept at all but feel it wouldn't be as fun and just make things a bit more complicated. After all, a redemption arc is a serious endeavor and requires a lot of work and care. As I said in this post here, it is not as easy as making Hans do something heroic, say he’s sorry, and now he’s good to go.
And considering the lukewarm reaction towards the simplistic and avoidant approach the writers to Agnarr and Iduna's 'redemption' (if you feel that they needed redemption, the opinions here are very polarizing) in F2, Hans' redemption would be received even more negatively due to his serious actions if they chose to oversimplify it.
As I said in the above post linked, which I'll copy here, the following would have to be addressed if the redemption takes place -

1. Having the villain learn why what they did was hurtful so that they genuinely feel bad about what they did.
This is difficult for a character like Hans because he is a Sociopath. It is not impossible to redeem a sociopathic character, but it requires a bit of nuance that not only has to disregard this aspect but may be too complex for a children’s title. Thus, the best option is to either retcon the Sociopath aspect or find a way to address the nuances in a way a child can understand.
2. Giving the villain quite a bit of time to reflect on everything and actually have the audience go on this journey with them. Thus helping the audience themselves believe that they have changed.
The issue here is that the interest is very low from audiences in the first place. People don’t want to see a Frozen 3 or Frozen Series focus on a Hans redemption- they want to see Anna and Elsa. Thus, this arc would need to take even longer because it would have to be a side story - more fitting for a series.
3. The victim’s pain needs to be the main focus, not the villain’s. Yes, understanding why the villain did what they did is important in any redemption arc. However, if the focus is too much on their tragic past, then it tells the audience that we need to feel sorry for them and not the victim.
In the case for Hans, the focus of his redemption needs to be what he did to Anna without any sugar coating or downplaying. He manipulated her, emotionally abused her after revealing himself, and then went to kill her sister after leaving her to die. The narrative would need to address all of this and let Anna express her pain to him, without his excuses.
With all this in mind, we also need to understand that it is Anna is not obligated to let Hans be part of the sister’s family no matter how much he’s changed. Even if she forgives him, letting him back in and giving him that trust again is a lot to ask. Forgiving ≠ letting back into your life. Basically, Hans would have to get his redemption and then be on his way to finding his own purpose in life. A forgive but not forget the idea.

Conclusion
My personal view is that I would love for Hans to return to the series. He was a big part of Frozen's success, with both Love is an Open Door and his twist reveal, thus it would be a shame if he never came back. My personal preference is for him to return as a villain because the narrative opportunities would be much more fun, however, I am not against the idea of him having a redemption arc - as long as it is done with care and respect.
Even better if the writers can somehow accomplish both - bring him as a villain, but somehow redeem him haha. Just give me my villain song dang it.

nonnieeee!! but it wouldn't be a surprise now, don't you think so?
okay honestly, i wasn't planning on working on a long helsa series, though i did have a similar plan with the 'marriage of convenience' trope as the core of the series.
what started out was really just a series of twitter banters with my friend that expanded into fully fleshed plots, with some spanning over a month or three depending on how far the plot develops.
truthfully, i've been yearning to find a writing partner who could match my writing style and be excited to write SO MUCH about a ship. while helsa initially wasn't my OTP ( yes, i started out as jelsa ), somewhere in 2022, i turned into an ardent helsa shipper thanks to my other friend.
ANYWAY, back to the series ( me and my big mouth can't hold it back anymore ):
the entire premise of the story takes place after the events of Frozen 1, but not until Frozen 2. her magic is still there, just not at the forefront as it did in the first movie. and oh, yeah, it's in the mid-1800s! there's also inspiration drawn from ( majorly ) the frozen musical, a frozen heart and a little bit of dangerous secrets.
others may have written something similar like mine, but this is really an extensive series of ‘what-ifs’ that mainly focuses on the aftermath of her coronation, her struggles of trying to be a good queen for arendelle and all the times she shouldn’t hang out with hans, who showed up on arendelle after serving his prison sentence for two years ( roughly ) – which led to her falling for his pretense like anna.
of course, there's a few original characters that we made for this series! besides that, i personally have a pinterest board dedicated to hans and elsa, alongside a spotify playlist that follows their entire journey :D
there’s also an element of hans’s morally grey side, which, as santino fontana said, hans isn't what he seems to be ( meaning he has personal motivations like any other people ) and my lovely friend who writes as hans has the most detailed lore on him and everything, and i honestly couldn't be luckier and so SO grateful to know them and write together ❤️
obviously, when we started plotting, we realized that their story's going to be LONG, and we've decided to break it down into three major acts. the second act is arguably going to be the longest and where we are currently.
so, the theme of the story is the title of the series itself: 'in hindsight'.
in hindsight is basically a sequel to a prequel titled 'shattering ice'. in this one, the story explicitly deals with her first visit to the isles and meeting the star-studded cast of the westergaards whom, again, my friend here has built – completely tragic, awful, and all things negative that shows who they are as a family.
also the prequel will serve as the starting point of their relationship because we don't want to jump on that chemistry building with haste.
right now, we're mostly focusing on in hindsight and pretty much pausing shattering ice. also, because the former became a full blown series, i had to upgrade my g-drive storage hahaha so all of their past plots and current ones are safely stored in there.
all in all, this series is arguably the most special endeavor i've ever done. it's got a TON of emotional realism in there, soft moments in the form of jane austen-esque longing touches kinda way, gut-wrenching angst and a bittersweet ending ( i'm not ready for the last part, but we've planned on how the series will end ).
even in spite of our busy schedules, we found time to keep writing out the replies, info-dumping personal headcanons of our characters and hyping each other whenever the ship had their fluff / angst moment. i seriously could not thank my friend enough, and i really appreciate her for all the helsa brainrots ❤️
and finally, the reason i've not put it up on AO3 is because i didn't want that invisible pressure of needing to update it. i mean, yes, it's still ongoing, but imagine if i just upload the complete series and voila? basically giving a delight to potential readers that the series is done hahaha.
i don't foresee we'll finish it by end of this year, even though we started out since june last year. but who knows, it could end well until the following year?

They never knew it would come to this. Elsa had a baby and Hans was the father. He didn't know until Anna dropped the bomb on him.
He and Elsa had broken up after they skated together in the finals. Elsa just couldn't believe her parents died the same night she and Hans won the finals.
She was too pained. In a state of shock. She had to cut herself out of the world for a while. She had to break up with Hans.
Not until she found out she was pregnant and had to have him back in her life.
They decided to co parent since they weren't on any levels of getting back together. "Elsa?" The mere call of her name brought her out of her depressing thoughts.
"Yes?" She asked Hans as he swayes their baby girl in his arms. "You okay? You seemed lost in thoughts." He said with an eyebrow raised.
Elsa shook her head and took her handbag in her hand. "I should get going, you can bring Hannah back to my place later."
She held all her feelings in. She wanted Hans back, but she knew she needed space. Especially since she has her daughter to take care of.
One thing she knew though, was that she and Hans will forever be intertwined, with what's theirs.
Their daughter.
"Our daughter." She whispered as she looked at Hans's apartment door before walking away to start her day.

How would you have made Helsa canon?
Okay there are 3 ways we can go about this.
Frozen. In the first Frozen, it's Elsa Hans meets, not Anna. It starts out with a dance, at first Elsa is hesitant, but Hans says please and Elsa could not refuse.
Elsa finds a kindred spirit in Hans. Hans shares his mistreatment over the hands of his family and Elsa reveals that her parents made her conceal, don't feel. Hans says "maybe we're more alike than I thought, your majesty" Elsa tells Hans how she had to shut Anna out and Hans simply tells her "you were close, if you open up, I'm sure she would forgive you. Before Elsa goes to see Anna, Hans gives Elsa a winter rose. And Elsa smiles like she's never before.
More of the events of the first movie happens. Elsa and Anna reunite, Elsa loses control and shuts Anna and Hans out and Let It Go. Anna and Kristoff's journey. When Hans comes to save Elsa at her castle. Hans tells Elsa she's not a monster, the powers she wields are beautiful, and for once in her life, Elsa doesn't view this power as a curse and the warmth from Hans begins to thaw out the ice.
And more or less goes like this fan comic. It's the Duke Of Weselton who's the villain.(you know the obvious asshole who has a problem with Elsa having powers).
Elsa and Anna's love for each other saves each other. Elsa and Hans get married and Elsa tosses the bouquet towards Anna and Kristoff and winks at her sister. Elsa finds someone who understands her and helps her embrace her powers and someone who helped bring her and Anna back together. Hans found something worth even more than a throne. Love and magic. True love. And Hans has what he always wanted. A family. A King with his Queen
Frozen 2. Remember the Frozen 2 teaser that shows Anna picking up a sword? In my opinion, that was supposed to be Hans. But let's say that is Hans. Hans intentions are to seek help from Elsa because of the crisis and mostly he just wants to escape to the Enchanted Forest to escape the torment of his family. Absolutely no one trusts him and Hans journey is not about escape, but redemption. Also I like chooarts and other Helsa fanartists depiction of Hans having a beard. But anyways, the fire spirit latches onto Hans.(more on that later) When Elsa leaves Anna behind, Hans goes to find her. When Hans finds her, she's frozen like in the movie. The fire spirt bonds with Hans and Hans uses his new found power to save Elsa. Elsa, Hans, Anna and Kristoff together save the Enchanted Forrest.
And Elsa tells Hans she forgives him and they hold hands and embrace in a hug an teasing for something more. And Olaf makes a joke about the two lovebirds while Elsa and Hans turn redder than fire. Eventually Anna forgives Hans. He saved Elsa and helped save the Enchanted Forest and Arendelle and Hans wishes her the best with Kristoff, he is a better man for her than he could've been. And they part as friends.
Where Elsa found the place she belongs, Hans found his belonging with Elsa, because the Fifth Spirit needs the Fire spirit to stay whole.
Anna takes her place as Queen with Kristoff, while Elsa and Hans stay in the Enchanted Forest.
Frozen 3. Hans' father and 12 brothers intend to invade Arendelle. They see Arendelle as vulnerable without Elsa. So Hans goes to the Enchanted Forest to warn Elsa. And together Elsa and Hans would save Arendelle together. I also think it should be revealed that Hans has Fire Powers. In the process of working together, Elsa and Hans begin to fall for each other and Elsa finally learns to forgive Hans for what he's done. And with Elsa as a master of ice and Hans a master of fire, Fire & Ice together saves the day and unites two kingdoms.

All of the events of Frozen are Anna's fault. All because of two lines:

"The sky's awake, so I'm awake, so we have to PLAY!"
Was it awake? Yes. But they are in Norway, where the lights can be seen often (I might have got that wrong, but I know it isn't rare).
"Do you wanna build a snowman?"
Was she a child? Yes. Did she know better? Yeah, but she obviously didn't care. She pestered Elsa until she played with her. Sure, Elsa gave in but Anna wouldn't let her sleep. Wouldn't leave her be, despite being told that Elsa just wanted to sleep.
Anna also didn't listen to Elsa when she tried to get her to stop when the girl couldn't keep up. So, yeah.. I mean, that's kinda what she gets.
Look, I get that kids are kinda hyper and test limits. But Anna should have stopped the first time she was told no. Imagine what would have happened had she stopped..
Elsa would have learned control. Anna wouldn't be so desperately annoying for any scrap of attention. Their parents wouldn't have separated them, Elsa wouldn't have shut herself off from everyone.
Does that have anything to do with their parents' deaths? No. But if Anna had listened when she was told "no", the sisters could have grieved together and presented a strong front to their people. Arendelle wouldn't be seen as a "mysterious trade partner" by Weaseltown.
Kristoff wouldn't have been adopted by the trolls, but he had, ya know, PEOPLE around him with the ice harvesters. He'd have some social skills and wouldn't be a pick me boy. Would he and Anna get together? No, she wouldn't have a reason to be with him. (I don't ship Anna/Hans, I ship Helsa, sorry guys.)
