Hi! I’m confused. What’s going on with Chris Evans? I keep seeing stuff online but I’m overall new to what’s happening to him or about him(???). Can you explain to me what’s happening please?
Basically he is dating a 25 year old portugese actress who have been found out to have been in association with racists/anti-semitics/fatphobics and still associate with them, as well as having done cultural appropriation posts.
She also still associates with aforementioned people and some of those specific people have even been at Chris' house several times (íncluding new years 2021/2022 and 2022/2023)
There is also a lot of discourse regarding her extremely young looks (and her age) and her old filmography which can be classified as softcore porn, some of which was filmed when she was under 18. They are currently publicly dating with a 16 year age gap, however he scouted her out back in 2020 which would have made her 23 at the time and him 39. Their connection was first suspected in 2021, making her 24 and him 40. He is currently 41 (turning 42) while she is 25 (turning 26)
She also posted a video of herself in the shower after a lot of fans found out about the racism and called her out. This does look like a direct response to those accusations as it happened less than days later. She deactivated her instagram shortly after but is now back.
So they are all extremely problematic.
I want to be nice but I have told this story too many times, what I can recommend is going to @anneslibrary for the receipts and more info on this situation as it has been going on and escalating since last year.
If you're open to advice, here's mine: Leave. Run. Run as far as you can from this fandom. It is toxic as hell and what you're going to find will only disappoint you. Know that nothing put out in the media is authentic about this man. He is not what he portrays himself to be. This includes political "wokeness" and overall "internet-boyfriend vibes". He is currently not portraying any of that or even uses his voice when it comes to everything going on in politics in America currently, despite how important it is.
I hope you have a genuinely good day though!! But I would not recommend spending your time on this man, he is not worth it. ❤️

🦊Wed 30 Dec ‘20🇮🇹
People Magazine released the rest of their interview with Liam from last week: he talks a lot about Maya (and calls her his SPOUSE) and Bear ("I am very frightened about the idea of him entering the world that I'm in”). But the new and exciting thing is that he has something we haven't heard before to say about his music plans for the next year! He says "I'm hoping to write some songs and rewrite my story a little bit, because I don't think that I got it right yet. The music I've been making has been a lot of fun for people, but they're momentary songs, they're not songs that made you think deeper thoughts about someone you really care about. I've really evaluated a lot about myself this year and I think I'm going to take a bit of a different path into 2021." Last year he said, “I want to make a really amazing album that’s not, like, important… I just want to make people move, if that makes sense?” and then he did make that kind of music for a while, and previously he'd said that writing songs for 1D came easily to him, he “just knew how to make it” but that it wouldn't be what he'd choose sound-wise so this will really be the first time he'll be sitting down to both write from the heart and be able to explore his own sound, and we can look forward to something completely new in the world! Good stuff!
Anne Twist put up a selfie of her in the Italian Golden merch, I’m very glad that she got it before they sold out and I hope that she got lucky and it came with a Louis bucket hat! A lot of merch seems to be getting confused these days, with more people getting Harry boxed sets that didn't order them (or order from Harry at all), among other mixups-- if they're trying to get us to buy more I admit, it's motivating. She wasn’t the only one with fashion input today: Lizzo put two new pictures of H on her Instagram story as a part of a “New Years challenge”, Harry Lambert tells us that in his Professional Opinion the JW Anderson Cardigan and the Golden pants should win this round of the Fashion Archive’s competition, and even Fox News can't keep out of the discourse, they stuck Harry on their “Naughty List of 2020” (that’s not the official name but uh fuck them that’s what I’m calling it) for his fashion choices! Apparently, they didn’t like the Vogue dress. Twitter said nahhh fuck that and trended “#foxnewsjacksofftoharrystyles”, which you know what, that feels organic: are they pissed at him bc they’re attracted to him in the dress? Well, get in line, they have a LOT of solo stans to fight!
Niall will be on the Morning Mash Up tomorrow, and we got a little clip of it today, with Niall talking about when he (FINALLY) met Ashe in person. “We had a great laugh,” he says, “we got very drunk!” He also talks about how he doesn’t like to collab with people he hasn’t met, because he thinks it comes through in the song. Anyways, tune in tomorrow for the rest of his NYE Parrrtttyyyyy! Louis won “best male” in the Power Radio awards, accurate, Honey Pop released an article called “How Louis Tomlinson Made 2020 His Year”, accurate, and Walls made Alt-Rock Magazine The Aquarian’s Top 25: “every song features Tomlinson’s expert storytelling abilities, even when documenting... his whirlwind decade long relationship”-- also extremely accurate!

🚨Thurs 17 Dec ‘20🚨
No one will argue, this year has been the worst and I'm not really into that whole 'silver linings to bad things' bit, but... BUT! If the demise of live shows and rise of livestreams meant Zayn deciding to perform for us?! Well. I would be willing to reconsider my whole ass philosophy on life! Unfortunately, despite the excitement (or was it hysteria?) he inspired last night by getting all our hopes up, it might just be a music video? We'll see though. He definitely did register a new song, UNFXWITABLE (!), and then, and THEN: slid a single photo into his instagram story, a truly beautiful old baroque theater stage, fitted with live show speakers and a tantalizingly closed red curtain. The stage lights are on, the seats are empty... prepping for zomething?? It was discovered to be the St George Theater in Staten Island, very exciting, but today more video of them working on whatever they're working on surfaced (a snippet at the theater with a bit of an unknown song audible) that makes it seem more likely they're working on a music video than a livestream set up. Still, we can DREAM. At the very least we're getting a new song any minute now and at best-- Z3 and a video AND a liveztream?? (or prerecorded, that's FINE.) The pap pics the other day were him leaving a menswear boutique (sorry I said home, my bad, it was the usual 'front door to car' walk though) leading to speculation he was getting fitted for zomething zpecial... maybe we'll get to see it soon!
Likely on account of the added European show tickets going on sale today, Louis came online to check in, and also to laugh at old videos of himself, send larries into a tailspin, and best of all, weigh in on and shut down discourse left and right THANK YOU SIR! Louis is happy to walk us all through how not to get Live In London video taken down (“do it on a burner account haha?” tips from the master truly, no one would know better so listen to him); he denies having such an account himself (“maybe I should”) though unlike Liam (see below) HE doesn't go that extra step into obvious lie territory and say he's NEVER had one. On how he deals with comments about his height (which are up again these last few days due to a video circulating that uses math to conclude once again that he is in fact, as documented, 5'9”), “I rise above them,” he zings back, and in appreciation of someone who actually got the joke, “you're on my level,” DOUBLE PUNNING, BOOM but that's not all: he finishes off with the comment that finished ME off, “such a peculiar debate.” REALLY. Peculiar specifically, not like strange or weird or annoying you just... went right in for the Eroda copyrighted word huh. OKAY. Also: no, probably no collabs on LT2 (“doubt it”), yes he loves twitter “in doses, no better way to talk to you lot” (you mean even better than via t shirts?? sounds fake but okay), tells us he is “100% for sure” is gonna get the vaccine, and that “cucumber is shit” which isn't really a discourse we needed him to solve that I knew of but like, okay! Sorted! Antis seethed about him talking to larries and larry UAs and picking a video of him and H singing You and I to reply to, and probably cucumber enthusiasts and anti-vaxxers were unhappy too, but the rest of us? WINNING.
Liam is all over, first appearing in a fisherman's cap that nicely sets of his full and fluffy beard, then demonstrating answering questions for the Naughty List insta filter. He says he has never made a fake social media account, so I guess he's not lurking here reading these or I would guess that if I believed THAT for one second, he also says yes I have lied to my best friend so I'll just chose to believe he means us by 'best friend' since here he is, lying away. Dixie is absent from the recent promo, which is a blessing not just because they don't mesh particularly well but also because she's gotten even more terrible on main, moving from simply allying herself with racists to producing her own racist content- if we're lucky she'll simply fade away along with xmas and we can move on without any of that thank you very much. Liam is still a good BFF to us though: today he's offering himself up as prize in a raffle, you can enter to win a 'once in a lifetime VIP Experience in 2021 with Liam' for a low low £5, funds going to Stagehand's #ILoveLive campaign to support industry workers. And on the 17th day of christmas, my LP Advent Alarm woke me up with... Roman Kemp leading us through a weirdly peppy breathing exercise, backed with both soothing spa music and a sample of Liam's voice taken from the sleep story played over and over at near random intervals! I said it before and I'll say it again, they REALLY should have recorded all the material at once last month, but tbh I am enjoying the chaotic daily scramble to find something to put on the thing that's come of them being caught short maybe even more than I would normal content, it's getting downright experimental and I'm fully here for it. It's got that classic janky af for no reason 1D feel you know!
Rob Sheffield found better things to say about Watermelon Sugar, naming it his number one song of 2020 and calling it “a lost Stevie Nicks/ Stevie Wonder duet” plus gifting us a Harry quote: “that one we reworked a bunch of times, and it died a couple times, then it just kept coming back. We fully killed it a few times, but it kept coming back in. So I thought, There’s a reason it’s surviving.” And Chris Pine- who also says that he's all done shooting his part of Don't Worry Darling- said, “Harry Styles is an absolute delight. He's one of the most professional people I've ever met. Couldn't be kinder, more gracious, I mean, really, I was stunned by this kid. He's off-the-charts cool.”
And finally, as 2020 draws to a close we are being flooded with a barrage of our guys being declared winners of incredibly narrow categories (Harry on a list of 'groundbreaking magazine covers' for example), but I think the winner of MY list of 'Highly Specific Accolades' is sewn up for the year already; Heartbreak Weather is officially “the first [advertising] campaign to utilize weather-tracking technology to target content to users”! I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for competitors but beating that for reaching for a category will be TOUGH.

This sounds delusional but I don't think its crazy to think Jikook have a hot/cold relationship to presenting themselves as a pair on SM. If every time they post something to do with the other or have a publically affectionate moment in content that is highly scrutinized someone recieves violent hatred and backlash, its understandable they might pull back a bit. This isn't some Jikook version of a Tkk-are-hidden conspiracy. But common sense says a more than platonic relationship would be subject to occasional spikes in discretion and/or self censorship. The bold is balanced with the hazy. Lord knows what sorts of talks happen in private and what kind of deals may or may not exist with media outlets. The rise of western fandom and discourse in western spaces where lgbtq is publically discussed might also lead to changes in PR strategy. If, for example, dozens of 'Jikook live together' videos crop up with thousands of views and reasonable arguments, isn't that scary at some point?
The more Jungkook posts about Taehyung on his insta (which is also a PR tool), the more I think he has clearly deleneated 'work Jungkook' and 'private Jungkook'. He uses his online personality is a media tool. Those birthday posts are public performance. I don't think he didnt post about Jm because he doesn't care. And I don't think it was necessarily always like this with the caution. But people evolve and learn to protect themselves. We have no idea what goes on behind the scenes and what sort of acute stressors arise. These young men's friends and families have been harrassed as well.
The only time I have honestly noticed "spikes in discretion and/or self censorship" was after the Speak Yourself Tour Finale in Seoul on October 2019. November, December, after that and then January, February 2020 were seriously the only times I thought maybe they are finally settled in in their relationship and that's why things have changed and will keep changing, or maybe they just never were in a relationship. At that time, it was end of the year awards season, and then comeback and while watching them almost in real time everyday, I was more inclined to believe they never were in a relationship.
The other "spikes" are just periods of time when there's no content at all. We don't actually get content in real life time for most of the year, in fact I would say that at least in 2020 and 2021 there was in total like one month (and maybe even less) that we got real life content of their lives. The things we get to see in September actually happened in April or May, and maybe during April or May people were thinking there was some kind of "auto censorship" within jikook but the reality is that we just didn't have content.
As for social media (twitter, weverse, and now instagram), I don't think it's about on/off to presenting themselves. The thing is that we're just starting to actually see the consequences of Jimin not posting. It was always him the only one who pretty much constantly posted about him and JK and because that has changed, we're just painfully starting to notice it. I mean, when was the last year there was a new "jikook selfie" almost every two weeks? 2018, which was also the last year Jimin was that active on twitter. In 2019, even if Jimin had already stopped posting as much, we saw them almost everyday because they were on tour so selfies or photos weren't really needed to see them / perceive some sort of interaction between them. 2021, again... only two photos were posted by Jimin.
There was no tour in 2020 and Jimin didn't use social media much and the couple of jikook photos were posted by Jimin. In their last break too it was Jimin who posted JK's pictures for his birthday and we knew that they were together. This time, he hasn't posted anything and I'm not sure he will. Then there's the fact that Jungkook has been active on instagram ever since it was opened and he hasn't posted anything about him or Jimin, so for some people it might add to that feeling that they are not spending time together at all. It certainly feels like that for me. "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" There might be sound but if you're not around to hear it, you won't know that there's sound. If you're not around to see the tree you won't know that it has fallen down.
So, no, I personally don't believe it's a matter of secrecy or self-censorship. I don't think it's that deep. Or maybe it is that deep and that’s why Jimin changed his social media habits. I have also considered a couple of reasons of why he might’ve changed that, and we could talk for hours about every possible reason for him to do so, but in the end what we do know is: Jimin doesn't really post about himself and other people anymore. The only "presence" Jikook had in social media, and the little they might still have, it has always been solely Jimin's doing, and because Jimin is not doing it anymore, then there’s no presence at all.

Hey, you don’t need to answer this if you’re not up for more discourse, but i just wanted to complain a bit about how this Ana-storyline is now probably getting even more non-sensical. Because it very much seems like we are going to skip right ahead to Eddie being back at work, right? And i know, timelines on tv are…weird, to say the least, especially when it comes to medical leaves etc. But Eddie’s physical recovery must have at least taken a few weeks. Now, assuming that we are going to see Ana again, that means he kept her around for that long, with her probably helping him through all of it, and now he’s going to break it off pretty much out of the blue?
Hey Anon!
I...would not be too worried about the timeline. Season 4 retconned when May's graduation party was because of covid, so instead of taking place in May/June it took place in March (apparently) and when 4x01 started, it gave us a full title card saying it was September (despite the episode airing in January). So we know 4x01 and 4x02 took place in September 2020, and after that, we don't really have a timeline. There's a timeskip somewhere in Season 4, but I don't actually think it was during the mid-season break because they were doing vaccine doses in 4x08 and as we're all painfully aware, the vaccine wasn't developed until the beginning of 2021. Somewhere in between 4x02 and 4x08, we skipped a few months. My personal suggestion would be between 4x02 and 4x03, since I don't remember getting any indication that Lone Star was taking place at any other time than the present as it was airing so the timelines (in this version) would've aligned at the crossover.
Of course, I would take any and all timeline aspects with the utmost salt because basically anything you do to it to try and make it make sense results in Maddie being pregnant for like 13 months. Which is suboptimal.
As for Ana's return, I want to emphasise that this is not officially confirmed anywhere, to my knowledge. It's put together through analysis of Instagram stories, which is methodologically sound as far as a research analysis method, but also not infallible.
We did also get a bit of a filming schedule yesterday that someone dug up on Twitter, and so it looks like what they were filming yesterday with all the entire circus is actually part of 5x02 in the depths of the blackout, rather than part of the first episode, Panic. It makes me wonder/hope that perhaps if we do get Ana back, and we do have that opening extraneous episode, perhaps it will include flashbacks and that's the reason for her presence, and we will get to see A) some Eddie recovery stuff and B) the breakup we all so crave. As far as anyone knows (last I checked, but I haven't caught up with the dash yet this morning) Albert has not been spotted anywhere in turnouts, and that could be because Timothy wasn't kidding when he suggested that perhaps Albert would be at a different station, or it's because 5x02 takes place before that closing scene and we're going to backtrack a bit. Which, of course, would only muddle the timeline just a bit more, but whatever.
Or, it could be that they have been together the entire time, and we're going to get indications that Eddie just hasn't found a time to break up with her yet because how do you break up with someone you don't love when they've been helping you through a recovery? It would be the return of the reason Tatiana broke up with Chimney in 1x03 except at a reverse: Ana did stay and we would get to see the fallout of that particular relationship choice. In my ideal, here, we'd have Eddie constantly checking his phone during the blackout and Buck ask, "Chris?" because of course that's who Eddie's checking in on, and Eddie would reply,
E: Yeah, I'm just worried.
B: Why? Isn't he with Abuela/Pepa/Carla?
E: No, he's with Ana.
B: And you're...not okay with that?
[long, long, telling silence]
E: ...that's not good is it.
B: Not if you want the relationship to work out.
Basically, Anon, my advice here is to not count your chickens before they've hatched and to not start diagnosing them with relationship perils/nonsensically continued relationships until after they've hatched. I would not worry about it yet.

About Me
I keep forgetting that Tumblr has this neat little pin function that would be really good for introducing myself and giving folks some pertinent information before you follow and/or interact with me or my content, so, here goes!
Hi everyone!  My name’s Allison, and I am relatively new here (to Fallout 4 fandom, not to Tumblr.  I’ve been on Tumblr since 2015.)  I started playing  FO4 in April 2020, and I made the silly mistake of actually caring that I’d run off all my Dragon Age followers from my main blog (@allisondraste) with my new interest, so I made anentire sideblog and here we are.  So if you get a like, follow, ask or reply from @allisondraste, that’s me!
I am going to put the rest of this About Me under a Read More to be mindful of space, and of people’s dashes. :)
Basic Information
Preferred name: Allison! (But honestly if you come up with a nickname for me, I’m probably going to be cool with it.)
Preferred pronouns: She/Her, but I’m also fine being called They/Them
Sexuality: Asexual
Real life occupation: Psychology Doctoral Intern (at the time of posting.  If you read this after August 1st 2021, I’ll just be a Psychologist)
Things I do in fandom: Art, fanfiction, meta/lore, shitposting, reblogging/supporting other creators
Other fandom’s I’ve participated in: Dragon Age, Inuyasha
Where else you can find me:
Main Blog
Twitter
Instagram
Archive of Our Own
Fallout 4 Specific Information
Preferred faction: Minutemen!
Favorite characters: Preston, MacCready, Hancock, Piper, Nick, Sturges, Ronnie
Characters that I am occasionally critical about, but 100% support other people liking them:
OTP(s): Preston/SoSu, Sturges/Danse, Piper/Sullivan, any of my friends’ ships tbh
BroTP(s): Preston & Piper, Preston & Sturges, MacCready & SoSu, Hancock & SoSu
NoTP(s): I don’t think I have one other than just “broadly abusive.”
General Preferences for Interaction
I’ll start by saying that this isn’t a “do not follow if” section (with the exception of bigots and general jerks).  This is more of a “if you follow me, please be aware of and respect my boundaries” section.  I’ve not always had the greatest experience in fandom and it’s made me very wary of new spaces.
So here are some things to know:
I have opinions (tm) about characters and lore, and I will openly state those on my blog.  It does not bother me if you disagree and I am always welcoming of good faith discussion and debate.  However I prefer that anything extra critical of my faves, my ideas, or me, be kept out of the notes of my posts.  I will never attack anyone for their opinions or preferences, either.
If I want constructive criticism, I will ask for it.  I create content for fun and for free, so unless something I’ve made is unintentionally harmful, I would rather not receive that kind of feedback.  If I do make something unintentionally harmful, please let me know so that I can address it.  I do my research and try to be sensitive, but I’m aware that I am not immune to mistakes.
I cannot stress this next point enough: I am new here.  This means that I literally have absolutely nary an idea about the history of fandom drama and discourse.  Zip. Zilch. Nada. I can promise you that, even though I am not a fan of the BoS (just for example, and anecdotally), any criticism about the BoS is never directed towards people who do like the BoS.  I understand that we are all different people with different backgrounds and our reaction to the same content may be different.
That being said, if you aren’t someone who likes to see BoS critical content, then my blog might not be for you.  I do, however, like Paladin Danse as well as several other characters who are part of the BoS, so it’s really a mixed bags.
I am not a fan of discourse and would prefer not to participate in it.  I am also completely against personal attacks based on assumptions drawn from fictional preferences.
I keep my blog safe for work, and I will never reblog explicit content, even if I like it.
I really really really really really really hate Preston settlement jokes.  I know it’s a meme and an old tradition, but I really hate it.  I also do not enjoy content in which he is abused, killed, etc., so please be aware that I may unfollow or not follow back if you regularly share these things.

Introduction: What am I interested in?
On this blog I want to share my thoughts about social media and politics. I especially want to see how social media might be able to change our political environment.
In our seminar we often talked about the effect of technology in our lives. Humans use a lot of technology in almost every aspect of our lives. It is hard to imagine live without technology since we are so used to it. Nowadays, it is always necessary to use technology in some kind of way. It does not matter if it is for work, school or every day life. Of course, technology is just an umbrella term for many things. One of them is the internet, which is not really something that has been around for a long time. The official birth of the internet is “January 1, 1983” (”A Brief History of the Internet”). From 1983 to now a lot has changed on the internet. You can do almost everything on the internet now. Buy stuff, work, book a vacation, play games and more. There is  a specific invention that is only available because we have the internet. It has changed our lives more than anything else. This invention is Social Media. The very first social media site that was made was called Six Degrees and was created in 1997 (Hendricks). You could use it to update your profile and make friends (Hendricks).
Now social media is a huge part of life and has changed a lot over the years. You do not use it to just make friends or introduce yourself with your profile. Social media is not  used for only private matters anymore.
When the topic social media first came up in one of our class discussions I thought about what I see on social media when I use them. There is not just your friends, your family, your profile and things that you might like. There are news, advertisements, products, gossip and much more. Social media is now used by big companies, small business, entrepreneurs, famous people and more. We even have people, who work as social media influencers.
But it is not just economy that found its way into social media. There is a lot od politics on social media. That does not seem to be a strange development since politicians are suppose to be there for the people. There is no better way to connect to the people than social media.
It is also really convenient for me and I imagine a lot of other people because I am interested in politics and I use a lot of social media. I get all the information about different political topics from there since I do not read newspapers nor do I listen to the radio. I sometimes catch the news on TV but that is not very often. Most of my political input comes from Tumblr, Twitter and Instagram. The question now is: Is this something I or we should be doing?
At first, this may seem like a bad idea because social media has this issue of “fake news” but I do not have a lot of trouble with that. Over the years I have learned to always research if I read something important on social media. I do not think that “Fake News” are a phenomena that social media has caused since newspapers and other news providers often show their own bias or make make confusing statements. For example, in a lecture I attended one of our lecturers showed us that statistics are often purposely formatted as confusing as possible. It tricks people at the first glance because most people will not look closer. This phenomena is analyzed by a few professors every month in Germany with their “Unstatisk des Monats” format. Their website is in German (https://www.rwi-essen.de/unstatistik/) but I have found a translation of one of their recently analyzed statistics, (https://www.hardingcenter.de/en/unstatistik/unstatistik-march-2020-english-corona-pandemic-statistical-concepts-and-their-limits). I do not want to analyse this further, with this I only want to say that I think that with social media we have become more aware of this problem of manipulation and “Fake News” but that it is not something that social media has caused on its own.
Once I established this, I realized that there is something something concerning about my intake of political information. Even though I am interested in politics I am not really getting much about politics in Germany or German politicians, which is not really good since I live in that country. I know the basics and current affairs but no more.
.In contrast, I know a lot more about American politics. Not just the current news I have more background information than I thought I had. I had not even realized that this is something I that I should be aware of. I thought further about it and came up with a few explanation on why this might be.
Not only is social media is very “Americanized” but the treatment of social media in political situations is very different. German politicians do have Instagram, Twitter and Facebook but they are not managed like the accounts of American politicians. Often they are not managed by the politicians themselves but by social media teams (it depends on how known someone is because smaller not so well known politicians do manage their own account). Of course, American politicians do use social media teams too but their engagement seems to be more natural. It actually looks like they were part of the decision on what to post and we know some of them do post their own content for example Trump, Obama, AOC.
If you look at Germany, chancellor Angela Merkel’s Instagram account feels impersonal. I do not believe that she even is aware of what is put on that account. Most of the German politicians have accounts that feel the same way to me. They are some pictures with children etc. especially if they are about to enter voting periods but otherwise they are really straight forward with only political statements. Now I need to ask myself, is this even a reason to complain? Because is that not what we want from them? To be professional? Politics should be about politics only. Does it matter if a politician is popular on social media or known? Manages their own social media?
On the opposite direction we have American politicians. Three examples from America would be Donald Trump, Barack Obama and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
First, we have Donald Trump. There is not much I can say about him that a look through is Twitter would have said if it had not been deleted for spreading too much misinformation, which does make “Fake News” dangerous again if it comes from someone who is suppose to be believable if it comes to politics. I will say though that I could not imagine a German politician doing what Trump did on Twitter during his presidential period. The constant fights and fake accusations against not only other countries but against people and politicians from other parties. Not behind closed doors but in front of everyone on social media. Of course, we can take Trump as an extreme. As a second example, we have the former president Barack Obama, who has an Instagram and Twitter where he for example posts about his yearly movie, book and music recommendations. At last, we have the United States Representative AOC, who makes a lot of “Instagram Live” videos to personally talk and answer questions the people have about politics. She even does twitch game streams with famous streamers. Even I follow her Instagram account and she is not even political responsible for me. I do not follow any German politicians.
Nevertheless, America is a deeply divided country when it comes to politics and I ask myself if social media has somehow affected this development? Think about the storming of the capital in January 2021 which was organized most likely on social media and was actively encouraged by some republicans on Twitter.
In conclusion, I am asking myself a few questions:
→ Should Germany become more like American in the regard of Social Media in politics?
→ Or should American politicians take a step back from Social Media?
→ Is Social Media affecting politics in a positive or negative way? Or is there no real black or white way of seeing this? Is social media a gray area?
I want to try to answer these questions in particular since I want to figure out if social media has hurt the development of politics or if it has helped people become closer to politics. Do we need to limit social media or should we encourage political discourse on social media? I think the effects of social media in politics have only been discussed superficial I want to bring my own view into this equation, too. I want to see the effect social media has on politics. I want to see if it has an effect on people if we get information on politics from social media or somewhere else.

Yesterday was the most absurd night I’ve seen on tumblr in the last five years. Just wanted to throw that out there. Between gay Supernatural news, Nevada going to bed again, and Putin possibly stepping down, we also got discourse™️ about Zayn and Gigi. Two women on twitter stepped forward and have claimed to have been sleeping with Zayn when he was with Gigi. The first woman says that when they were together in 2016 Zayn told her that Gigi was PR, and not an actual relationship, and that she called it off when she found Gigi's medication at Zayn's place. The second woman said that she saw Z from 2016 until February 2020 (and that yes, Gigi was pregnant at that time). She says she got him the custom Dusk ‘til Dawn skateboard that he later gave away in a fan event, and posted at the time about angrily entering the contest to try to get her unappreciated gift back. In another angry tweet (these women were spilling for a reason, they're mad as hell), she said the biggest lesson she’s learned this year is, “never let a boy with a girlfriend convince you into dyeing your hair because you’ll end up with damaged hair and he’ll still have a girlfriend”. Here’s hoping that she goes into 2021 without damaged hair and with someone that wouldn’t give away the gifts she gave them - everyone deserves that! The pair are mostly fighting with each other so more details for us popcorn munching bystanders are thin on the ground; for example neither gives a clue as to whether Gigi supposedly knew about them. Fan reaction is split between not believing the women, insulting the women, insulting Zayn, and insulting each other. I want to say it’s not my place to judge any of them, but I think that at this point I’m just screaming into a void, so I’ll say this: if you’re going to be cruel (especially if you're sexist/racist) about any of them in my notes, you’re going to be blocked.
Niall went live today with a special announcement: Ashe will be joining him LIVE on tomorrow’s show! That’s right: they flew her out to London two and a half weeks ago, had her quarantine, and will now have her perform exactly ONE SONG with Niall: Moral of the Story. Don’t get me wrong, I’m SUPER excited to see her, but uh...I have questions. Has she only flown in and quarantined for one song? Or will Niall do what Liam has been and use her as an opener, allowing her to play her set? I guess we’ll see tomorrow! The Independent reported that 90,000 tickets have already been sold for the concert, which is $1.8 million dollars towards paying Niall’s crew and the WeNeedCrew fund, which is amazing and will go a long way! We also got some instagram stories of him rehearsing, and he sounds great! I am getting more and more excited for this show as time goes on. Some set mock-up pictures of DWD were released, as well as some on site pictures of Jack and Alice’s house: it’s the Kaufmann house, which was made famous by Slim Aaron for his “poolside gossip” picture. It was put back on the market last month for $25 million, though I’m sure the price will only go up after this film premieres.
Liam, who spoke in the interview that just came out yesterday about the futility of responding to the press and how it just stirs up more press about the same thing, responded to an article about him. The Sun drew on that same interview to report that Cheryl had told him to temporarily “take a break” from his son and insinuated that it was because of partying and addiction struggles, in a call back to their recent article about Liam's drinking (like literally calling back; they linked themselves as their source). Liam took to Instagram to say that the Sun had completely taken his remarks out of context, the context being that he said them in May, and that the thing that had separated him from his son was, “the worldwide pandemic, not because I had anything wrong with me”. He says he was “discussing not being able to see my child which is difficult for any parent. I wish sometimes these people would do the research and give the context instead of painting people a certain way for click bait”. I have no opinion (no thots empty head) other than that Liam was 100% right about one thing: there are now six more articles on this topic which would not have been written had he not said anything.
And last night's memeing dredged up a lot of trips down tumblr memory lane, a regular retrospective of the last five years, and brought the uncomfortable emergence of a lot of locals posting about babygate ("haha next we'll find out that guy from 1D really wasn't the dad!" ha...ha...uhhh.) A good reminder of how many people are uninvested but still very much aware of the babygate rumors and of how major any kind of announcement or revelation would be, the absolute impossibility of just "ending it while no one is looking!" And in totally unrelated (and unwanted) news, Briana and Nick unshuttered their instagrams. "I'm back!" posts Briana. Ugh, read the room people: you are an unasked for cactus. That being said, please let's all take a deep breath and drink some water and get some sleep. It’s what I’ll be doing all weekend!

The Right Needs Their Own Boycott: Social Media
Usually we have to wait until the end of Lent for the torrent of articles by journalists flagellating themselves over their social media addictions. Easter came early (or is it late?) this year, however. Over at The Spectator USA, columnist Bridget Phetasy published an article aptly titled, “Twitter Has Stolen My Life.” In it, she meets her aged self on her deathbed. Bridget the Elder asks, “How do you feel about the time you spend on Twitter?” Bridget the Younger gives a mixed report. On the plus side, much of her professional and personal success is owed to social media. She’s an expert at promoting her “personal brand” in the digital age.
But there are downsides:
Well. Where do I begin? Like everyone, I have a love-hate relationship with social media. To be honest, I’ve always been skeptical of it and never really wanted to join in. Twitter is my fix, but you can insert any other social media platform you’re addicted to and what I’ll say will probably be true with minor variations.
The downside is that it robs me of joy.
That was my experience, too. I couldn’t have said it better myself: Twitter robbed me of my joy. That’s why, about three or four years ago, I decided to delete all of my social media accounts.
I haven’t looked back.
I’ve written about my opposition to Big Tech here and elsewhere. In short: social media makes you mean, stupid, impatient, and depressed. It takes a serious toll on your social, physical, and mental health.
Even the upsides given by Ms. Phetasy are cyclical. Sure, Twitter allowed her to flourish as a journalist in the Age of Twitter. But wouldn’t it be better if there was no Age of Twitter at all?
When it comes to social media, we all suffer from a weird kind of Stockholm Syndrome. We accept Twitter as a given and dare not imagine life without it. The most we can do is thank Big Twit for occasionally showering us with its favor. It’s like hearing some apparatchik say, “Yes, the Communist Party killed hundreds of millions of people and stole my humanity. On the other hand, I wouldn’t have gotten that cushy job in the Politburo without it!”
These confessions by social media addicts are always well-received by their readers. Ms. Phetasy’s article is currently the second-most read article on the Speccie website, and I expect it will overtake the first before it disappears into the blogosphere’s vast elephant graveyard. It’s obvious that many (perhaps most) Americans resent social media. But it’s as if they’re stuck in an abusive relationship: they want out, but they’re too afraid to change the locks.
***
Now, if this were only a matter of personal wellbeing, I’d be happy to keep playing up my Luddite schtick. The problem is that Big Tech, having successfully privatized the public square, uses its power to advance the progressive agenda.
Like the averse health effects of social media, this isn’t exactly breaking news. From censoring campaign ads to biased “fact-checking” to curating search results, Silicon Valley is openly working to undermine conservative and Republican causes. Surely, then, the sane thing for conservatives and Republicans to do would be to boycott social media.
And yet we don’t. We have voluntarily handed them the right to censor our political discourse. We know it’s wrong, both for ourselves and for our country. But that doesn’t mean we’re going to do anything about it.
This is why—despite my admiration for folks like Josh Hawley and Elizabeth Warren, who want to break up the Big Tech monopolies—I can’t endorse their efforts. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram aren’t really monopolies. They don’t use price controls to maintain their market dominance. The service they offer is totally, completely, 100 percent free to consumers.
What Senators Hawley and Warren (like Ms. Phetasy) actually resent is Americans’ total lack of self-control. Almost three-quarters of American adults use social media. If they wanted to, they could simply walk away. But they won’t. They lack the willpower.
Every time I turn on some right-wing television channel or log onto some right-wing website, I hear the conservative masses wailing at the lack of “free speech” on these social-media sites. Guess what, folks? Facebook and Twitter are private companies. So far as they’re concerned, you have no free speech. They’re not bound by the First Amendment. They have no Constitutional duty to represent your “viewpoint.” That’s like walking into a Catholic Church and demanding the freedom to give a sermon praising same-sex marriage. It’s like sitting down at a vegan restaurant and insisting on the right to BYO filet mignon. Private property doesn’t go away just because you find it inconvenient.
In fact, Jack Dorsey could ban Donald Trump, Sean Hannity, and Ben Shapiro from Twitter if he so chose. Why not? It’s his website. If that awesome power alarms you—and it absolutely should—then deactivate your account.
Herein lies the bitter truth. Conservatives lack any whiff of self-discipline. That’s why we can’t organize a boycott to save our lives, even though progressives have been delivering our business leaders’ heads on silver platters for at least sixteen years. It’s why we completely gave up the fight for traditional marriage the moment Obergefell v. Hodges was handed down. (In fact, Dear Leader has been assiduously marketing himself to the LGBT voting bloc in the runup to 2020.) We’re all sound and fury, signifying nothing.
***
Let’s draw a line in the sand. If we conservatives can’t bring ourselves even to delete our Twitter and Facebook accounts, we deserve to lose. If we can’t reclaim the public square from progressive oligarchs, then they ought to rule the day. If we can’t break the ties that bind us to those Silicon Valley moguls—at no cost to ourselves—then we’ll get what we deserve.
“I have not yet begun to fight!” cried John Paul Jones in 1779. Nor have we. We’ve not allowed ourselves to suffer the slightest inconvenience in the defense of our way of life. If we continue giving our implicit consent for the Dorseys and Zuckerbergs to police our political discussions, then we may as well surrender now.
If you God-fearing, freedom-loving patriots really wish to “reclaim the narrative” from the Left, then stop giving them carte blanche to set the parameters of acceptable opinion. And don’t switch to some “alternative” platform, like GAB or Parlor. Stop choosing the lesser of two evils. Make a rule for yourself now: no evil, at any time, for any reason.
Then, delete your accounts. Swear off social media forever. If we can’t make this one small sacrifice—not only for our own good, but for the good of our country—we will lose battle after battle in the Culture Wars. And we will deserve every humiliating blow.
