AN: I’ve been binge watching Abbott Elementary lately, and it’s been all consuming. I absolutely LOVE it! Highly recommend, 10/10. It’s funny, it’s about the struggles of teaching, it’s sweet, it makes me cry, I love it.

Tamaki - Janine (Mr. Can Do Positive Attitude Can Conquer All over here, refuses to give up, a bit oblivious to others, does wild friend gestures that are not always well received, and has the mommy issues to boot. :) ) 

Haruhi - Gregory (why am I here vibes, but eventually gets into it, and decides to stick around of their own free will. High key judges everyone. Somehow gets wrapped up in all of the crazy shenanigans.)

Mori - Barbara (it’s the whole Mori fully believing Honey would go easy on his brother because in Honey’s heart, Mori knows that his little brother is more important than eating cake… and then Honey absolutely decimating Honey, and Mori once again being disappointed by society. Mori wants to see the good in people… and yet.)

Kyoya - Melissa - (While Kyoya might not dirty his own hands, he knows *everybody*, and he is not afraid to blackmail. He knows everyone’s secrets, and like Melissa, he’s resourceful. Kyoya and Melissa are just different fonts of the same type of “fuck with me, and you’re done” character.)

Hikaru - Ava (He’s always scheming, is also sometimes a bit oblivious to those around him, and would never pass over an opportunity to make fun of Tamaki/Janine) 

Kaoru - Jacob (Kaoru is well meaning (generally), sometimes misses the mark, prone to ramblings others might not understand (re: pumpkins and family and staying the same), and even if he gives his friends shit, he is loyal till the end.) 

Honey - Mr. Johnson (Generally in a good mood, that unsuspecting character who does random shit in the background, has a wild backstory that you only learn about in bits and pieces… look, it fits.)

Hello All, Space here to tell you why YOU !! Should read classic manga Magic Knight Rayearth. 

“What’s that?” you ask? You’ve never heard of Magic Knight Rayearth? Well, I am here to tell you ALL about it.

WHAT IS MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH?

Magic Knight Rayearth is a 6 volume manga about magical girls, giant robots, and isekai. Yes, you read that right. All three amazingly loved tropes together and it’s done seamlessly and beautifully. You’ll laugh, you’ll say ‘wtf’, you’ll sob big Ghibli tears. 

Also like. If you have any intention to actually read this manga after this post, don’t google anything? Seriously don’t. It’s only 6 volumes but googling will spoil literally every twist and turn this series has and BOY DOES IT HAVE SOME. I’m not gonna spoil you for them. Don’t spoil yourself.

To put into perspective how much I love this series and how badly I've wanted people to read it for years: I was pinching pennies for p much my entire life until very recently. I read this series when I was 14 (~20+ years ago oh god) and fast forward to today I'm still a penny pincher but I went out of my way to collect 5 different full copies of this series in various printings and languages because I just. I gotta. I love it. I have a copy that is a dedicated loner copy so I always have one ready for someone to borrow and read. PLEASE understand how much I love this series and go along with me here.

All right, so the story goes like this: three middle school girls on a field trip to Tokyo Tower get summoned to an alternate world called Cephiro. Oh by the way, they go to different schools. Also they’ve never met before. 

You’ve got rich, beautiful hothead, Umi Ryuzaki. Her magic element is water, fierce and unforgiving. Her two loving parents are still in their honeymoon phase 14 years later. They’re rich, she loves food, she is kinda selfish, but has such a great character arc because of it. She’s amazing and I would die for her. 

After her, you’ve got polite but very very shrewd and thoughtful, Fuu Houoji. Her element is wind, kind, occasionally harsh, and healing. Fuu is the one with plans, who is very sweet and formal but also very conniving if you aren’t paying close attention. She cares deeply about those around her  while also being realistic. Sometimes she can be a little aloof, but it’s ok she’s cute.

And finally last girl, BEST GIRL, Hikaru Shidou. Energetic, sympathetic, understanding, and eternally the best. Her element is fire, she IS the magic knight of Rayearth, the titular character, the beautiful perfect darling angel who has never done anything wrong in her life. She goes to an all girls’ school. She has three older brothers. Almost every girl in her school has a crush on her. She is oblivious as fuck. She grew up in a kendo dojo and beat her father in a match when she was in kindergarten and that’s why he’s not around. She has the biggest heart in the universe. I love her. I would beat gen urobuchi in a denny’s parking lot at 3am for her honor. 

These three girls meet a magician, Guru Clef. This lil dude. 

The rare “small boy who is actually a bajillion years old” trope before it was such an annoying trope to use on women characters, but he’s 700+ years old and the most powerful sorcerer in Cephiro. He gives the girls magic and armor, and tells them they were summoned by Princess Emeraude to save Cephiro. 

How do they do that?

By talking to the chief Pharle (artisan, blacksmith, etc) of Cephiro named Presea to make them weapons. And oh yeah they have to use those weapons to revive the rune gods.

Y’know.

Big Giant Mechs. 

Waking these bad boys up takes a lot for the girls and it’s really really good seeing how they go about it and what they're willing to do to accomplish it.

I’m not gonna spoil the story for you but I WILL go through some of the other characters.

You’ve got:

Princess Emeraude. The Pillar of Cephiro, imprisoned and kept from praying for Cephiro’s well being. She’s sweet, she’s heartbroken, she wants her world to be safe again. 

Next to her you have the High Priest Zagato, her second, the antagonist who got the ball rolling on this whole thing. He’s gloomy, he’s serious, he’s methodical and looming. 

I mentioned Presea, did I mention her already? She’s great. She’s feisty and loud and would be THE most amazing dom queen if she could ever find a sub willing to tolerate her. 

She makes the weapons for the girls and also gives them a guide to find the rune gods.

Oh yeah their guide. 

So like. Probably obvious by now but in case it’s not, this is an early 1990s CLAMP series. You know CLAMP. They did xxxholic and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and Card Captor Sakura. Yeah, this series came before ALLLLLL of those. 

You know that lil fuckin rabbit mascot they have?

That’s Mokona. He’s their guide. This is the series he originated from. 

Mokona is an adorable caring little shit who knows exactly what he’s doing at all times.  He helps them out but my god. The way he makes their blood pressure skyrocket on the journey there. 

Then we’ve got Ferio. A traveling swordsman who enters tournaments. Unfortunately Fuu’s straight alignment. But he’s fine, he’s cute. He’s got like… a whole Thing about him that I won’t explain but know that he’s okay. He’s all right.

The latter three volumes expands their allies to some other people that I cannot spoil but please know: they’re gay. They are all gay. There’s no heterosexual explanation for any of them. You think "oh that's a straight couple". Wrong. They're all gay, even if they're straight. One of them is like. Holy shit I cannot express how obviously gay they are. This isn’t like. “Oh you’re reading too into it with your fandom eyes”, I mean this is like. Wow. You two had the worst ghosting breakup and should get back together because it was over something stupid. 

There are a fair number of villains and only one of them is like. Pure Actual Evil and I won’t tell you which one it is but the rest are all VERY satisfying in their character stories and arcs and I love them all dearly. Got some hot magic ladies, got some nervous quiet men, and some awkward cute boys. The whole variety is there! 

Aside from the great characters, the artwork is GORGEOUS. 

I know in this day and age of 2023 digital art and speedy turnarounds of weekly manga releases, all the art is crisp and kinda minimal except for big scenes, and people like that. 

But also consider: gorgeous detailed intricate illustrations. 

And I still won’t spoil you for the story, but it will still surprise you I swear to you. 

“Okay but isn’t there an anime? Can I just watch that instead?” Look at me. I am holding your hands gently, and I am looking you in the eye as I pull you close and tell you: no. 

You notice all the artwork I've shared is specifically manga art. The anime is. ……………………………………………… not great. It has its pros like padding out filler episodes so they can flesh out the girls’ friendship and some of the side characters. But in having to pad out a 6 volume manga to two 26 episode seasons, some Decisions Were Made that were not in the best interest of the series or its themes. And when I say that, I do mean the very core of some of who these characters are. Motivations and internal goals changed for no reason, added characters for padded run time, an entire character killed for no reason only for their (anime only) twin to dress up and pretend to be that character because the directors realized “oh shit that character is in the second half uhhhhh quick”. It’s not great and it’s just not a lot of fun. 

All I’m saying is please please give this manga a read. It’s very quick, you can finish it in like. 3 days tops. It’s beautiful, it’s heartbreaking, it’s tragic and hopeful. 

I’m gonna leave this with a link to read it online and some other characters I didn’t mention because I just think they’re neat.

Pfft close enough, when Garou's trying his damnedest to be all hardened, uncaring, stone-cold tough in the face of honest Feelings(tm), cause get a load of all THESE MOMENTS. His Blatant Lies and bullshit tsunderisms denying and deflecting the truth of how much he actually cares, while immediately doing the complete opposite of what he says dumbly oblivious to his own irony, remains some of the funniest shit ever. This classic line personally takes the cake for me:

After his feral rampage all night busting thru walls for his Big Damn Hero moment saving him in the nick of time, not even caring about taking a stab wound thru the gut to overkill Tareo's kidnapper, then turning all hypervigilant escorting Tareo the fuck outta there like his very life depended on it - literally, as a self-sacrificial decoy for Tareo to escape. Like COME ON. Having the gall to say the most awkwardly unconvincing, absolute tsundere excuse right out of the book was probably the hardest I've ever laughed seeing that type of line. Could not believe ONE made him go full tsundere there, and then kept on doing it even more as Garou's arc progressed at conflict with his own deeply human softness/sincerity/feelings. :P Where the timing/hilarity completely worked and only made Garou that much more (silly) cutely endearing. You can bet when it's Midorikawa's turn he'll smoothly rev up the charm factor in s3~

A/n: OHSHC was the very first anime I watched and it's what got me into anime in the first place. So here some Host Club Smut for ya!

It was like any normal day in the life of a commoner. School, work, clean, cook, downtime, sleep, repeat. So when the weekend came and Haruhi would be home to help out and you actually had a day off from work, the two of you just relaxed. She told you all about the host club's wacky adventures that day and you couldn't help but giggle and the way she described Tamaki. "I'd love that!" The two of you made your way to the kitchen and began preparing when someone knocked on the front door.

"I'll get it." Haruhi said and left while you continued to grab stuff to make some homemade ramen. You noticed the lack of food and ingredients in the kitchen and made a mental note to go to the market later. "Uh, (y/n)? You know how you asked me to keep out of the host club's crazy antics?" Haruhi asked while standing nervously in the doorway.

"Yeah?" You turned around slowly, not really liking how she was talking.

"They're here." You froze. You didn't want to be a distraction for your sister or to get caught up in anything related to the host club because you had too much work to do. You had to help keep the house clean and prepare food and actually work a job to help out around the house. You didn't have time to get caught up in some crazy plans to get two children together or go to the beach and flirt with people. Not that you knew that would happen but you knew it could've been a possibility.

"Oh, okay. I'll make some tea!" You said with a smile. Just because you weren't interested in the rich guys your sister became friends with didn't mean you were going to be a rude host. Wow… host.. weird. You quickly made some of your special tea you bought. It was more expensive but it tasted amazing and you only used it for special occasions. You carried a tray of cups with the tea along with some milk, sugar and honey just in case if they wanted to put it in. "I made tea." You smiled as you walked into the living area to see everyone sitting on the floor… try to conserve space? 

The group of boys turned to look at you and their eyes widened. "You look just like Haru-Chan! But more girly!" A small blonde boy, Hani you assumed from the descriptions Haruhi gave you, spoke and smiled. 

"Identical!" The orange hair twins, Hikaru and Karou?, Spoke. 

"Haruhi? Who is this?" The tall blonde with a slight french accent asked.

"This is (y/n) my sister. My… twin…. Sister." That's when all hell broke loose. Arms being flung around and crying? Were they crying?!

"Haruhi! How could you not tell us you had a twin!?"

Both of us would have been hard on money and one of us needed to stay. So I decided I would since I didn't get as high a score as Haruhi and she has more of a reasonable life goal than I do. So it was only fair if I let her go to the best school they had to offer. Yes I am the younger twin, but only by a few minutes." And so on and so forth. When you heard everyone's stomachs rumble, you realized that no one had eaten lunch yet. "I'll go to the market and grab stuff for some stew or something." You stood and grabbed your jacket and slipped on your shoes.

"I'll come with you." Haruhi stood and you stopped her. 

"Your friends are here, you should stay." You smiled and she gave you a sad smile back

 She knew you didn't have time for friends since taking on a job along with doing school and cleaning and everything to help out. You left and headed to the market when suddenly someone came up beside you. 

"Hey." They said and you turned to see one of the twins.

"Hello, Hikaru. What are you doing here?" I asked and he looked wide eyes at you for a moment before speaking.

"I thought you could use some company."

"I see, well, you know the rest better than I do. What kind of food does everyone like?" You asked. 

"Stew is fine. Any kind really." He shrugged. The two of you walked in silence for a moment.

"She never told us she had a twin." He finally spoke after you two had left with the bags from the market.

"I know. I didn't want it to distract her from her studies and to be honest, I didn't want to get any attention from you guys either. She talks very highly of all of you, but I heard stories about Tamaki. Daddy? Is he like…. One of THOSE guys?" You asked and he laughed.

"I don't think Boss even knows what a boner is. Much less how to actually kiss someone or even think that being called daddy is a kink." The two of you laughed and joked around the whole way home.

ep 16/karuizawa arc> kaoru tries to help hikaru and himself to have their own individuality by experiencing different types of relationships and increasing their emotional maturity

ep 21> kaoru describes the cindrella metaphor. the dynamics in the club are the carriage. (haruhi/tamaki as daughter/father noted)

>the host club is facing the struggles kaoru was scared of and in a sudden, unprepared way. tamaki is leaving (might leave and then leaves), kyoya's family suddenly seems disappointed aka he might pull away from the club entirely, in the end theres a lot of changes in the club. they lose hani and mori first in the battle (graduated), then kyoya isnt coming (pulling out for future plans/family pressure), they are running after tamaki as a trio when hikaru gets hurt.

>in the pumpkin patch when doubt is highest and they are thinking about how this is surely the end, we see haruhis flashback to her dad about not hesitating when the time is right. even though she doesnt have the need to continue, she still does because she /wants/ to. AND she succeeds. this would show kaoru that there is no "spell" or some uncontrollable event that would lead to the end of their friendship, and that he can keep it alive just by working on it

>the fact that the show ended the way it did (with tamaharu happening TO keep the dynamics alive + all members working their hardest just to keep it all going) wouldve been enough to curb kaorus worries because it was physical proof that even when the things that he feared happened the group didnt fall apart and even got stronger

>so he lives through his fears becoming true and it gets resolved symbolically. obv i would want there to be a 40 min episode where kaoru goes to theraphy and resolves his issues including the incest kink but the last few episodes were rushed as fuck

Hi! Never disagree with me about the carriage ever again I'm going to fucking kill you. (<- this is a joke i am joking im not mad at u u are my friend)

I've talked about this before -- about what the last episode symbolizes in terms of the carriage allegory. But it was an old post so many people probably haven't seen it.

To showcase why I disagree we need to first realize what the carriage allegory actually stands for.

In short, the carriage is the anime's way of implementing Kaoru's depression arc from the manga. If you're unaware of that, the tl;dr is very similar to episode 21 just without Cinderella metaphors. Scared Hikaru will leave him, scared he'll lose his friends, etc. Except in the manga, Hikaru and Kaoru actually talk about this, culminating in Hikaru dyeing his hair but reassuring Kaoru they'll always be together.

In my mind, the carriage is obviously a stand-in for this. But... It's also trying to serve to be a plot device to set up the end of the show.

My guess is the creators probably thought Ouran would get a 2nd season but it didn't get greenlit, so they had to wrap things up very suddenly, which is why the ending feels as rushed as it does. This is just a theory though.

The carriage, as it is presented in episode 21, clearly is setting up a major plot point: the dissolve of the host club. And since we as an audience are lead to believe Kaoru's word is to be believed, we're also like "oh, shit, is the host club gonna fall apart?"

cuz keep in mind, through this episode and episode 16, the show presents Kaoru in such a way that makes him seem "smart" and "wise" and that his ideas hold some sort of weight to them.

So, to recap, the carriage allegory in the anime is two things: 1, a character-driven arc about Kaoru's fears and 2, a plot device to set up the ending of the show.

This is where the "resolved" thing gets tricky.

The carriage is resolved on a plot-level. By the carriage hikaru, kaoru, and haruhi were one falling into the pumpkin patch, yet still saving tamaki in the end, shows that even though the "spell" ended, they still managed to get their happy ending. The club did not fall apart.

But, keep in mind, Kaoru's side of this equation -- about the fears of growing up, drifting apart, being different from his brother -- are not touched on.

To say it was resolved because of the pumpkin patch thing I think is just...wrong. At best it's incredibly lazy writing.

Tamaki & Kyoya had character-driven arcs, too. Ones that were presented throughout the whole show. And those actually got resolved in the final episodes. Yes, they were still open-ended endings, but they were acknowledged. That's what I'm pissed off about when it comes to the carriage. It doesn't get fucking acknowledged ever again. Not even a little bit. The best we get is symbolism that only, as I said, solves one half of the puzzle at best.

It was a slow hour in the Host Club, on a day that never saw very many visitors, at that. Still, the girls that’d come to see Haruhi were always persistent, always determined to spend a few minutes with the only Darling Host, her table continuously full despite the otherwise empty room. As much as most would trip over themselves for a charming Obsessive or two Possessives insistent on showering their temporary-partners in threats, the rarity of… everything Haruhi was seemed to be too precious to pass up. She seemed to enjoy the attention, at least, her laughter loud enough to be heard on the other side of the school, as Hikaru had frustratedly voiced earlier.

Unfortunately, the other Hosts didn’t seem to share in her joy.

“I just don’t understand why we can’t join them,” Tamaki huffed, throwing his hands up dramatically. He’d been the most upset about being segregated to one of the back corners, left to sprawl over a love-seat and force Kyoya to lean over the couch behind him, if only so he could better emphasize his defeat. “Look, they’re probably just trying to waste our time. I think once we make it clear that we aren’t mad, they’ll get the message.”

“The only message is that you’re a jealous mess.” Kyoya quipped, shifting rigidly. His feelings on the subject weren’t particularly pleasant, but he’d always taken these kinds of things far better than Tamaki. Not that such a feat should be considered an accomplishment. “They’re all very important, very wealthy members, and they’re entitled to their favorite Host. That is, unless you want to compensate the club for their funds?”

Tamaki huffed, letting his arm fall over his eyes. “It’s not my fault that they’re all so blind. It shouldn’t be difficult to tell that Haruhi’s already taken-”

“You trying to say something, Suoh?” Hikaru cut in, finally glancing up from the hand-held he’d been occupying himself with. He and the remaining Hosts had squeezed themselves onto the remaining sofa, despite the other chairs and pieces of furniture littered around the small space remaining empty. Still, Hikaru didn’t attempt to move his legs out of his brother’s lap, Honey insisting on melting into Mori’s side, despite having an entire third of the couch to himself. He perked up at the mention of Haruhi, though, letting his attention fall away from the device to better glare at the blonde across from him. “Because if you think some Obsessive idiot is going to claim anyone, you must be dumber than you look.” He paused, making a point of going back to his game rather than indulging Tamaki. “Haruhi’s not yours. You should know better than anyone that we’re already together, she just… hasn’t figured it out yet. And I haven’t gotten around to telling her, yet.”

Kaoru sighed, flicking Hikaru’s forehead lightly and ignoring the muttered ‘harder daddy’ that followed. “You’re acting Delusional again, we had a talk about this,” Kaoru started, a frown pulling at the corners of his lips. It was bad enough that they were separated by the severity of their… tendencies, but Kaoru doubted they’d even have half the same classes if administration realized just how questionable Hikaru’s hold on reality was. Luckily, the amount of times he’d gotten physical with the touchier members of Kaoru’s following seemed to dissuade anyone from taking another look at their classifications. But, the idea of him entering another relationship (a romantic one, at that) threatened the delicate, fragile balance Kaoru’d maintained for years.

He didn’t think he liked that threat, if he was being honest with himself.

Kaoru glanced over his shoulder absentmindedly, flinching when he saw how vibrant her smile was, his heart only beating faster when his gaze shifted to the other girls at their table. None of them noticed, all focused on something that didn’t belong to them.

Kaoru decided he didn’t like the idea of anyone threatening his relationship with Haruhi, either.

“If one of you is going to pursue Haruhi, you better do it soon,” Kaoru sighed, leaning into his seat. His own sentiments could be pushed aside, for the time being. “She seems to like the other Darlings… it’d be a real shame if she wasn’t as interested in a Yandere as you’re assuming.”

“They’re such sentimental creatures... how can you expect her to resist all that attention?” Tamaki waned, ever the romantic, pushing himself into a sitting position as he whined. Kyoya hardly managed to move quickly enough to avoid his gestures, slamming his hands down firmly onto Tamaki’s shoulders once the blonde was upright. Tamaki slouched at the interference, pouting like a child denied their favorite treat. “Right, Kyoya, I need to do something about this. Another confession should work, or a grand gesture! Or I could-”

“You could kidnap her,” Honey said, his tone still as drawn-out and as childish as it always was. If he realized what he was saying, he didn’t show it, humming obliviously as the other Hosts’ heads snapped towards him. Such a thing wasn’t unheard of, hell, it wasn’t even uncommon. Half of the school was convinced Nekozawa had a girl locked up in that pitch-black club room, but the topic of a ‘final resort’ was never brought up verbally, not in the Host Club.

Not when Haruhi was in the room, especially.

Mori elbowed his companion’s side, mumbling something the rest of the group couldn’t hear, but the scowl ghosting over his features gave him away, whether or not he spoke. Honey only shrugged, clinging onto Osa-chan a little tighter as he went on. “What? Everyone was thinking it, and I know all of you want to. Hika-chan and Tama-chan won’t have to argue if they have time to work this out.” He paused, averting his gaze, letting his eyes fall to the floor before continuing. “Besides, she’s been stressed out, lately. A break will be good for her, as long as you let her friends visit.”

Glances were exchanged, quiet apologies passed from mouth to mouth, but the conversation ground to a halt unceremoniously. No one said a word, the silence tense, awkward, but the stifling atmosphere was broken by a series of farewells, the Music Room’s door opening briefly before it shut, Haruhi still smiling as she leaned against it. Of course, Tamaki was on her in a moment, fussing over his favorite Darling and the twins trailing shortly after, their snide remarks noticeably absent.

No one was going to say it, much less discuss it, but the idea was already planted. A weed of something evil, rooting its way into their minds, even if it had yet to sprout for some.

But, plans were already well into bloom for others. 

The only variable would be how long each Host could stay patient.

Seji perused the tidy isle of clothes hung on hangers. His usual suits were starting to show their wear past the point of mending them, and so here he was. A reflection from a display case at the end of the isle drew his attention away from inspecting one of the jackets, and couldn’t help but smirk.

“You realize I don’t wear cufflinks, right?” Shindou stated with a flat face. The blond nudged the little box back across the table. Seiji didn’t pick it back up, fiddling with his own empty box. He had found a round set of cufflinks in white and an identical set and black, and had bought them both with the intention of wearing one of each. He had even done so, and he enjoyed the little Go stone looking cufflinks on his new jacket. Seji had also hoped the blond in front of him would have accepted the gift.

There was a sigh, but he didn’t look up. “Fine. Okay. Fine. I’ll figure something out for them.” Seji caught Shindou swiping the box and dropping it on top of a stack of papers. “Just don’t pout. You’re distracting, and I need to work.”

Indeed. Seji looked over the rather large table Shindou had in his apartment. There were research books of all kinds left open and nested in each other to certain pages, and stacks of paper making everything an uneven pile. Then there was his own corner left neat and tidy for meals and sometimes his laptop.

“What are you doing next week?” Seji asks. He knows it’s going to be work, work, and more work. But he can be hopeful.

Shindou hummed. Somehow, an ink smudge was on his cheek. Seji glanced at the other’s fingers, and spotted the culprit. Shindou had a freshly printed paper under his tapping fingers, smudging the dots and lines.

Seji’s preoccupation ended and realized he missed most of what Shindou had said.

“-I have to finish this before then or I won’t be able to give my full attention, you know?” Seji nodded along. It was easy to understand what he hadn’t heard. Shindou had a match next week -work- but he had to finish translating -more work- or he would keep thinking about it during the match.

Seji didn’t think much about that conversation until the next week. He had been participating in a go study group at the Touya residence when the front door slammed open.

He had been the closest to the door, so he sighed and got up. He expected Akira to have come with that Waya kid, but no. He could hear the voices in the hall.

“But can I wear blacks with browns?” That was Akira. At least he doesn’t have to deal with robbers. That had been a slim chance. What’s this about colors though?

“It depends. With your skin tone and hair color, you’ll look like a patch of army camouflage if those are your only colors. Hang on, let me check something.” That was Shindou alright, and it explains the door slamming. “Okay, here. You take that test, and I’ll take care of these.” 

Seji steps around the corner, and almost bumps into Shindou loaded down with full plastic bags.

Akira glances up from the colorblind test Shindou had pushed on him to watch the couple bicker.

“He asked me for fashion advice. He said yes if he wanted to go shopping with me.”

“But you’ve never agreed to go shopping for clothes with me.”

“Ah, that is because you are a lost cause-”

“How am I a lost cause? I dress professionally, and despite the faces you make at it, my fashion works.”

“-that I have given up on. Really, Seji? Pure white? You only get away with it because you’re one of those kooky eccentric types with a pretty face and lots of money.”

A pause, which Akira very carefully pretends he is immersed in this very riveting color test. Yup. Uhuh. Very concentration.

“You think my face is pretty?”

Akira cannot take this for much longer. He is going to burst if these two don’t realize they’ve been USTing for the past three years. It was funny at first, but they never caught on, and it’s a mixture of sad, disbelief and disappointment that this has lasted so long. 

He’s also got a bet riding on it. Most people at the Go Association are in on it too.

“Yeah?”

He has to say something. He doesn’t care if he wins anymore so long as they stop being so oblivious to each other. He’d rather them sneaking off suspiciously and giving calf eyes at each other over this.

Fuck it.

“Ogata stares at your butt too.” He says into the awkward silence that soon feels like he’s being murdered via glare from Ogata himself. Not that he’s looking, since he has his attention riveted to the phone screen. No need for eye contact with this stupidity. “And you two have been dating since before I met Shindou. You obviously like each other from how much you eye each other when the other isn’t looking. You also flirt- a lot. There’s been a bet going on for how long you’ll last like this, but I can’t take it anymore.”

Akira scoops up the shopping bags from Shindou’s loose grip,replaces it with the phone and the unfinished color test, and leaves the two idiots in the genkan to figure their stuff out.

He managed to close the door to his room before he heard, “ WHAT? ” through the walls.

His quota for chaos has been fulfilled for the week.

Akira sighed at his own thought as he dropped his new clothes onto his bed to sort, fold, and put away. Shindou has been rubbing off on him again.
