Elena of Avalor is genuinely such a good show.

#Personal #You know I've never forgotten about this show for a single day even after it ended #Just thinking about it makes me happy already but I recently listened to all the songs again #and directly interacting with the show and rewatching the clips from it hits so much different #I really need to do a full rewatch someday I haven't watched the show in ages #Just episodes I love most or something random for the content making purposes which is certainly not the same as watching for pure enjoymen #I probably realized it long ago but I'm currently in the 'analyzing my life' state of mind #and this show means so much to me on a personal level too because it brings up so many important topics to me as a person #And it just does it so well it's clear to see that creators actually cared about the story they wanted to tell #And really EoA also has absolutely fascinating and unique worldbuilding #and in the combination of important not trivial messages and dynamic layered characters this is just such a solid show #It really deserved to get more recognition #I wouldn't even say attention because lots of attention may cause more harm than good #It's actually more about recognition and acknowledgement #Really I'm not even talking about what a huge impact being a part of the fandom has had on my life #it's worth the whole separate post #I'm just talking about the show itself and how great and meaningful it is #Anyway EoA warms my heart and I'm so happy I encountered this show

I started watched 9-1-1 about a week or so ago and I just finished season 3 and I just needs to get some thoughts out about Abby's return.

It was disappointing. I honestly liked Abby as a character in Season 1 and as much as I thought it was really shitty of her to just book a plane ticket without telling Buck, I understood because she was grieving. While the ghosting was a little ridiculous, I get the writers were just trying to find a way to "end" the relationship. What I didn't understand was why the writers decided to bring her back for the season 3 finale for her not to give Buck the proper apology he deserved because he did deserve it. He waited for months, hell years, and while they had the episode of him sending the letter saying he can't wait anymore, he never got closure. This was a chance to give Buck the closure he deserved and instead they decided to go with the route where there is no apology and it seems like Buck is the problem?!

"Because being here, being with me, you might lose yourself again?”

“Yeah.”

How is it fair to Buck who was nothing but understanding and loving in the wake of Abby's grief to be told that being a good boyfriend and person was what would cause the person he loved to lose herself?! That being himself would drag Abby down instead of lift her up? Where's the closure in that?

I just cannot fathome why they decided to go this route bc it really soured Abby's character for me. That scene also just makes me so upset because Buck as a character deserves better. He deserves to know it wasn't his fault. That he did everything right and he deserves to be loved for being him. To be chosen.

Disclaimer: These thoughts are more emotionally than logically expressed, and reflect my own experience and preference.

#I have some beef with Lockwood and I say this as someone who really enjoys both the show and the books. #I've been doing a rewatch to introduce it to my dad (who loves it!) but we just hit Episode 5 and - is it just me but does this episode #plunge rather deeper into the darkness than we see in the previous episodes? It makes sense narratively of course #Complete Fiction has the task of structuring it such that there's a proper midpoint shift in the series and in my own works I increase #the stakes around this point and really let the protagonists struggle. So it's not so much that I have an issue with things getting #more focused dangerous and difficult. I don't know that I have a logical reason for the unease I feel with Episode 5 - there's just somethi #vaguely disturbing to me about it. It may be my own personal sensitivities. The interrogation scene at Winkman's has absolutely nothing #graphic about it and I appreciate the discretion - but it's just so intense - the threats to draw on Lockwood's face with the heated #instrument - the whole electric shocks sequence - I have been told I have a particularly vivid and empathetic imagination so I may just #be filling in too many gaps and feeling the scene more intensely than some would but it genuinely bothered me. More so on rewatch #though I didn't like it the first time either. I wonder too if it's because on rewatch I can compare it to the scene in the book #Gosh - the book scene is *comedic!* 'Let's disguise ourselves as ditzy tourists and while you check the backroom I'll let my coins #fall all over the place and crawl around under the tables loaded with antiques and freak the owners out! And when they get caught #Winkman just lifts them off the ground menacingly and chucks them in the street. The fact that we had to turn this into a midnight #torture scene for TV - I don't know - I don't like it. And just the atmosphere isn't as balanced as in the other episodes. So many flashbac #to grotesque corpse faces which are somehow a lot more disturbing than the CGI ghosts which feel much more Halloweenish #Not much love and light carved out in the darkness. There's some for sure! And even in the torture scene that bugs me I appreciate how it #shows Lockwood's heart and allows us to explore some meaningful territory that the ditzy tourist scene doesn't #I'm just griping and mainly hoping that the rest of the series is more how I remember it from first watch. The warmth of the Portland #Row gang means a lot to me. Stacking this dark feel on top of the discomfort I have with the harsh language rubs me the wrong way #(Thankfully I have online filters so the language isn't an issue for me but it does make me more reluctant to recommend to friends.

😍Backhoe (Zenaidamacrouras1) - 123K, no-powers modern AU with a smol Steve & beefy Bucky - absolutely incredible fic where Steve's an art grad student/activist & goes to protest a pipeline in Appalachia, which is going to be built across Bucky's family land - this fic was fantastic! Great (& authentic) sense of place & community, well-developed OCs (Bucky's sisters) - it's a meet-cute followed by all the work an actual relationship takes, very real & genuine with the emotions & hurdles that come up.

🥰Gravity's Got Nothing on You (zosofi) - 86K, sterek au, fake dating, frenemies-to-lovers with the encouragement(?) of some magic wolf figurines - it's probably been 8 years since I read this and it's as delightful as I remember - they're both so emotionally constipated it's hilarious

#digimon n pokemon were my first two animes and like. i hold those memories very dear to my heart #i loved both of these btw i am holding back tears i just saw distant blue sky i love ash man he’s just. like he’s just some guy i love him #he gives off this kind of childish joy that made me love pokémon in the first place when i was little . like baby etke would sit and watch #the gengar episode from the first season on repeat SOBBING #i don’t have to say why kizuna one hit KO’d me do i? /lh #mini rant actually because it’s been an . Hour #agumon and gabumon were so and are so important to me as characters . the point of digimon partners in season one is that they are there #to be a mirror to what their partner needs to accept and overcome. gabumon never gave up trying to make matt feel loved and helped him stop #repressing his feelings and agumon and tai gave eachother things to live and fight for!! that’s why agumon’s speech about life in 02 gets me #because he has had to fight a lot. but he did it all because he had tai and tai had him #and i think what kizuna missed the mark on was that it wasn’t that tai and matt didn’t need them or want them anymore. #it was that agumon and gabumon helped them get to a place where they don’t need that mirror anymore. #it sucks and i wish they hadn’t left but like. i think that’s the point #like we’ve all had shit that has helped us grow and cope and learn and when we leave it or when it leaves us it feels painful. it sucks #but you realize how much that thing really helped you become a better person #christ this got personal and ranty. anyways i’m still emotional about kizuna #kizuna’s ending wasn’t happy. but you could tell in the credits that even if they didn’t have their partners anymore #the lessons they learned from them is still there #digimon #gamma’s static #pokemon #digimon last evolution kizuna

I watched like, 3/4ths of S2 I think! I think it's a generally cute show but is held back by not doing the best job at balancing the size of its cast as well as some... interesting choices when it comes to balancing plot and filler. Laid out in more detail here

But for the short and sweet details: the faves are Gus, Luz, and Hunter in probs about that order, I always love a good found family, I love how casual and consistent the queer rep is (as an nb person Raine makes me very happy) even if I've never found Amity that interesting, and it makes me very happy kids get to grow up with a show like this!

okay ik that they needed to do like character redemption on gus by making him go from "power >>>>>> friendship" to "okay actually friendship is power or something" and ik gus isnt a good person, however did they have to make nv episode 39 so brutal. christ alive that episode fucks me up every time i watch it.

I think I finally cracked why I haven’t fallen as fast or as hard for the leapboot: in my opinion, it takes itself way too seriously.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I’m so excited to see where they’re going to go with the premise and the cast is fantastic (I love Janis especially so much and I have so many questions, Magic and Ben are sweethearts, and Ian and Addison are great), but let them have fun! Let them goof off! It’s a silly little show about time travel! It’s okay!
