Captivated (Ser Harwin Strong x Reader)

Pairing: Ser Harwin Strong x Tyrell! Female Reader

Summary: While serving as Princess Rhaenyra’s lady in waiting, you’ve been granted ample time to become well-acquainted with the man they call Breakbones. The Princess’ recent tours of Westeros in search of a befitting King Consort have only allowed the two of you to grow closer, and now you’re completely taken with Ser Harwin Strong. But the Princess’ recent tour to the Riverlands, in addition to some troubling news from home concerning the health of your father, Lord Tyrell, have left you feeling discouraged. You’ve begun to fear your affections for the strongest knight in all the Seven Kingdoms may not be returned. Perhaps a surprise visitor from Highgarden will clear things up...

“Thank you, Your Grace.”

Princess Rhaenyra smiled warmly at the small child, as did you. The little girl humbly accepted the half a loaf of bread from the Princess’ hands.

You and the Princess were currently in the heart of King’s Landing, inside one of the city orphanages. The harvest that year was already proving to be bountiful, almost entirely in part to the good people who worked the lands of your home. It seemed that there was plenty of food to go around those days, and you were grateful that the Princess and the King were of the mind that it ought not to be wasted.

Back in the Reach, you and your brother had often done the same- you’d visited all of the orphanages and sick homes in Oldtown and even The Arbor at one point or another. Your father has instilled the concept of giving back to those in need very early on in your lives, as your grandmother had instilled the same in him.

You had mentioned this in passing to Princess Rhaenyra one day, when she was still becoming acquainted with you. Once she’d heard of it, she declared it to be a worthwhile endeavor, and adopted something similar as part of her own regular routine. As such, she had made it a point to visit a new place in need throughout the city each week.

While it warmed your heart to help those less fortunate than yourself, especially the parentless children, you were happy that the Princess had decided to become more hands-on with her charitable works for other reasons. You were no fool- you knew how positively the common folk viewed noble men and women who showed them sympathy and kindness.

As lady in waiting to the future Queen, you knew it would be in Princess Rhaenyra’s best interest to win the hearts of the people as soon as possible. Dark plots were actively working against Princess Rhaenyra already, and the more political tools she equipped herself with, the better she’d fare in any future struggle for power.

While you had fully supported the Princess’ recent charitable endeavors, as did King Viserys, others from Court were less than thrilled with the idea. Queen Alicent had voiced some concern, as did Ser Criston Cole. He had deemed it too dangerous.

Even now, the Dornish knight was visibly sweating from across the room. From what the Princess had told you personally, and from what you had heard from others, Ser Criston Cole had experienced many battles, and lived to tell the tale of them all. And yet, in a simple orphanage within King’s Landing, he appeared to be visibly sweating and his eyes shifted across the room madly. His nervousness on behalf of the Princess’ safety had to have occupied his every thought.

Standing beside him, and much more relaxed in composure, was Ser Harwin Strong.

In your time at Court, Ser Harwin Strong had become a member of the City Watch. As a result, he’d become quite familiar with the inner workings of the city, and was comfortable walking amongst the streets. Ser Harwin had proven himself to be an asset for the Princess’ repeated journeys out into the city. Being out in the heart of the city didn’t appear to scare him or cause him any serious cause for concern. But you doubted anything would.

Unlike the panicked eyes of Ser Criston, Ser Harwin’s gentle eyes watched over you and the Princess carefully as you interacted with the children bouncing with excitement around you. You caught him staring at you as you continued to distribute bread, but forced yourself not to think too much of it.

Eventually, it was time to return the Red Keep. You could have sworn you’d never seen Ser Criston look so relieved- though perhaps that would only be true until the Princess’ next escapade concluded. He and Ser Harwin scouted the entrance to the orphanage to make sure there was no sign of danger while you and Princess Rahenyra bid the children goodbye with promises to return in a few weeks.

You made your way out of the dwelling to where the carriage, along with the rest of the guards who had been recruited to comprise the escort, was waiting for the two of you. Princess Rhaenyra climbed in first. You were quick to follow, but were temporarily paused when someone politely offered you an arm for assistance.

It was Ser Harwin.

“My Lady,” he said, bowing his head downwards towards his extended arm.

Despite yourself, you smiled at him as a sign of your gratitude, and hopped up and inside the carriage with his assistance. Once you and Princess Rhaenyra were both seated inside, the carriage was lifted up and off the ground, beginning the return back to the Red Keep. Ser Criston and Ser Harwin, one of them on either side of the carriage, kept vigilant eyes on your surroundings as the entourage moved through the streets. You caught glimpses of the two knights every now and then through the grated windows near the top of the carriage.

“I cannot tell you how relieved I am to be back,” Princess Rhaenyra sighed after a moment. She leant back against the wall of the carriage, and settled down further in her seat.

From your seat across from her, you offered her a small smile. “I recall the feeling of returning home after a long journey very well, Your Grace. I dare say that there is little else that compares.”

Princess Rhaenyra laughed shortly, but you knew she meant no offense. “Though I dare say the feeling of being out of the clutches of power-hungry suitors to be a far better one than that which you have described.”

You stifled a laugh, knowing your involuntary response would be frowned upon by most others at Court. However, none would be more displeased to hear of it than King Viserys, who had through painstakingly great lengths to arrange the tour of the Seven Kingdoms. It was all organized in the hope that his daughter might find a suitor worthy of both her heart and the title of King Consort.

Unfortunately, the tour had proven to be unsuccessful thus far. Princess Rhaenyra had visited the Reach, the Westerlands, and the Riverlands, and not a single notable contender had emerged- at least not in the eyes of Rhaenyra. She had claimed the majority of the hopefuls who had paid her visit to be either far too old, or far too young. She noted that the rest of them had been about as “insufferable” as their power hungry father and grandfathers, who had watched the proceedings with greedy eyes.

You had only received second hand accounts of the events, and largely from the Princess’ sole perspective. While it would have been expected of you to attend Princess Rhaenyra throughout her travels, she had taken her junior ladies in waiting with her for assistance instead. Meanwhile, she had tasked you with what she deemed to be far more important.

Princess Rhaenyra had asked you to stay behind, in King's Landing, to see to her personal affairs. It had been difficult to accept at first, even more so when the Princess went to visit the Reach. But you trusted and respected her opinion that you would be more of use to her elsewhere. While there would always be secretarial duties to attend to, and charitable functions to plan, the main reason the Princess had asked you to stay behind was for reconnaissance purposes.

Foul whispers about the Princess were abound, and they only grew more troubling in her absence. But with you, an obvious ally and devout supporter of the future Queen, roaming around the Red Keep in her stead, the whispers were more timid, and their perpetrators were kept at bay. Any rumors that still managed to reach your ears were immediately reported to Princess Rhaenyra upon her return.

“At least the Riverlands were quite remarkable,” Princess Rhaenyra noted positively, changing the subject. She gazed out the window, as if recalling a scene from her memory. “Even though they are named for such, I was truly amazed at the sheer amount of rivers we came across.”

You smiled at her enthusiasm.

“Have you ever been? To the Riverlands?”

“I’m afraid I have not had the pleasure, Your Grace.”

“We must change that then,” the Princess insisted, giving you a conspiring smile.

“Do you intend to return to the Riverlands soon?” you asked, with sincere interest. “Has one of the suitors finally caught your attention?”

Princess Rhaenyra rolled her eyes, a gesture that most would deem extremely unladylike. However, you knew it to be a common occurrence for her, and had grown quite accustomed to it. Her boldness was appealing, and refreshing amongst the other “highly-refined” ladies at Court. She had thick skin, and never hesitated to speak her mind; you knew that both qualities would serve her well as future Queen.

“Don’t sound too eager, Lady Y/N,” she chided playfully. “Lord Tully was a gracious host, of course. But unfortunately, all of the gentlemen callers were just the same. Too old, too young, or too-”

“-Insufferable,” you finished for her, having heard her same speech twice before.

Princess Rhaenyra laughed. “Precisely.”

In your time in service to the Princess, you had come to be quite close. You considered her a friend, and could only hope that she considered you to be the same. On bolder days, you might have contemplated whether Queen Alicent’s marriage to her father had left the young woman in search of some companionship. If there was a void in that area of her life, you were happy to fill it. You missed her when she was gone on her travels… But perhaps you missed one of her most recent traveling companions even more.

“It was not entirely a waste, I suppose,” Princess Rhaenyra admitted then, her tone shifting once more. “Ser Harwin Strong is far from terrible company.”

Immediately, you glanced at the carriage windows with worry. Was it possible that the very man in question was able to overhear you now? The streets were alive with people, but if Ser Harwin was walking right alongside the carriage…

However, Princess Rhaenyra did not seem deterred. In fact, noticing your apprehension only encouraged her more. She leaned forward in her seat, and said, “We had many great conversations, Ser Harwin and I.”

You forced yourself to smile, torn between the comradery and duty you felt for the princess, and the aching pain you felt in your heart.

“I can tell you all about our conversations, if you’d like,” Princess Rhaenyra offered, clearly, but thankfully, oblivious to your inner struggle. “I believe you’ll find them to be very interesting.”

Normally, you would readily indulge in some harmless gossip with her. But now, you loathed the thought of what she might tell you. “If it is your wish to share such details, Your Grace.”

The Princess finally noticed that something was amiss. She sat back in her seat, and gave you a befuddled look. “Is everything alright, Y/N?” she questioned. “You’ve been very quiet these past few days…”

You’d always prided yourself on your ability to be honest with the Princess. But at that moment, you could not compel yourself to tell her the entire truth. So, you settled for a half-truth, and opted to share with her one of the two things that hung very heavy over your head as of late.

“My father has taken ill,” you admit, lowering your voice so as not to be overheard by anyone outside of the carriage. “I received a letter from my brother just a few days past”

Princess Rhaenyra’s confused expression shifted to one of sympathy.

“The Maesters say he should pull through,” you continued, “But I am worried.”

The Princess had never been anything less than kind to you, but still, you could not have anticipated her next move. She reached across the carriage and placed a soothing hand overtop of your own, which you hadn’t realized you’d wrung together in your concern.

“My father has always described Lord Larris as a strong man,” she assured you full-heartedly. “I trust the gods will see to it that he recovers fully and swiftly.”

You were touched by her gesture. “Thank you, Your Grace.”

“Should you desire to go visit him, I will agree to it at once.”

“I will keep that in mind, Princess.”

Later that evening, once the Princess had retired, you made your way from her chambers towards your own. Though the hallways of the Red Keep were seldom unoccupied, save the guards keeping watch, they certainly appeared to be that night.

It was unfortunate that the one person you encountered was the one man that, for once, you hoped not to see.

“Ser Harwin.”

The knight paused in his tracks, and bowed his head graciously in greeting. “Lady Y/N.”

“It is a good evening, is it not?”

“It is,” he agreed, smiling softly. “And, seeing as I have been fortunate enough to speak with you, it stands to improve even more.”

Despite your reservations, you blushed.

The relationship between yourself and Ser Harwin Strong, much like your relationship with Princess Rhaenyra, had grown tremendously during your time at Court. And, it had blossomed even as of late. While the Princess had tasked you with seeing to matters in King’s Landing while she went on her tours of Westeros, there were times when you had seen to everything that needed to be done, and as a result, you sought company instead. More often than not, that company had been found in Ser Harwin. Though he had his own duties to see to as a member of the City Watch, he’d never failed to make time for you.

At first, it started off with polite conversation occurring throughout strolls throughout the castle gardens and surrounding grounds. Princess Rhaenyra was correct in her insinuation earlier in the day- despite the bruteish nickname he bore, Ser Harwin was more than a decent conversationalist. The topics were light hearted, but any conversation with him sent your heart racing anyway.

Eventually, you began to share meals together on occasion. Deeper conversations occurred during those times. You’d come to discover that you and Ser Harwin had much more in common than either of you realized. You were both very close to your families. You had each lost your mothers at a young age, but both of you had good relationships with your fathers, and absolutely adored your siblings. He had enamored you with tales of the haunted halls of Harrenhal, and in exchange, you had told him all about the gardens of Highgarden and seasonal festivals that the Reach boasted.

Most recently, the two of you, along with a small party composed of his brother, two sisters, and another few members of the Court, had gone for a few days’ hunt in the Kingswood. You hadn’t lucked out on the hunt like some of the others had, but it was a thrilling experience nonetheless.

The hunt had led Ser Harwin to discover your familiarity with a bow. Though perhaps it was not very lady-like, your father had taught you how to shoot at a young age, deciding that it had the potential to be a unique party trick, at the very least. Your hobby had never been put to use by targeting live animals, but rather, stationary or inanimate objects thrown up into the air. For you, it had never been about the hunt, just the sport of it all.

As soon as you explained as much to Ser Harwin, he requested you to demonstrate your skills. You attempted to politely decline, but upon seeing a disappointed glint in his eyes, you changed your mind. A small crowd had assembled for the showdown between you and Ser Harwin one afternoon. His sisters, surprisingly, cheered for your victory instead of their older brother’s. You found it to be amusing, but oddly touching. Ser Harwin took it in stride, and merely jested about the familial betrayal.

At the end of the shooting rounds, you emerged as the winner, but by only a narrow margin. Ser Harwin could not be faulted; it was well known he was far more talented with a sword than bow, anyway.

Part of you feared Ser Harwin’s reaction, worried that his displeasure would put a strain on your growing relationship. But he had surprised you- as he often did.

“Any boy can denounce a loss as unfair, or even simply blame the wind for a poor shot,” he’d said, grinning ear to ear as he plucked one of your arrows from the bullseye of a target, and handed it back to you gracefully. “It takes a man to be willing to admit defeat to the truly better aim, regardless of who that victor may be.”

Ser Harwin Strong was a flatterer, through and through.

You raised your head to look him fully straight on. Speaking in such close proximity to Ser Harwin always made you recall just how massive he was. Your chin was practically tilted upwards, and his head was bowed down to regard you.

“I apologize that we have not been able to speak much before now,” Ser Harwin said, sounding and looking completely sincere.

“Your apologies are not necessary, My Lord. I am sure you’ve had a great deal of things to attend to, especially after having been gone these past few weeks.”

As was expected, Ser Harwin had traveled with Princess Rhaenyra during her tour of the Riverlands- his home. You had no doubt he had presented himself to her as a potential suitor in Lord Tully’s halls, along with dozens of other vying contenders. As the oldest son of Lord Lyonel, and Heir to Harrenhal, you knew Ser Harwin had every right to offer the Princess his hand. In fact, his failure to do so might have even been considered a slight against the crown- one that his father, the current Master of Laws, would not have likely been able to afford.

But you dreaded the day when news would reach your ears of Ser Harwin Strong’s betrothal. Between his title, strength, and handsomeness, it was a downright wonder why a match had not been made for him yet. You knew it was only a matter of time… and while you had come to cultivate deep feelings for the knight, Princess Rhaenyra would be a far better match for him.

Since their return from the Riverlands, you noticed more and more frequent looks exchanged between the two of them. Knowing looks. It was apparent to you that Princess Rhaenyra and Ser Harwsin held information that you were not privy to. And you had a sinking feeling as to what it was.

An announcement had yet to be made, but Rhaenyra had yet to complete her tour. She was off to the Stormlands the following week. And yet, it was likely all for show. She had to be fair and allow other potential suitors to believe they still stood a chance for her hand- when clearly they did not.

Princess Rhaenyra must have chosen Ser Harwin Strong.

The Realm’s Delight and Breakbones? They made a better pair than one would think. She was a dragon, and he was a fearsome warrior. Her mental ingenuity would only be supported by his brute force of strength. Together, they would take down enemies to her claim one by one. They would want or need for nothing- and neither would their children.

And you, you would resign yourself to your place. Despite being the daughter of Lord Tyrell, you could never hope to compete with the Princess of Westeros for a suitor’s hand. And you never would. You had sworn her your allegiance… your true heart’s desire be damned.

“How were your travels, My Lord?”

“A bit tiring, if I may speak plainly,” he replied carefully. Even you had to admit that he sounded fatigued. “But it was necessary, which has made it easier to bear.”

I suppose winning the heart of the future Queen of Westeros made the trip worthwhile as well, you couldn’t help but think to yourself. “I am glad to hear that, My Lord.”

Ser Harwin reached a hand up to smooth through his brown locks, and he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. You realized with slight shock that he was demonstrating an emotion you had yet to see him display in all the time you’d known him- Ser Harwin was nervous.

“Are you well, Ser Harwin?” you questioned, not caring at all about the concern which was evident in your voice.

Ser Harwin’s gaze softened even more. Your concern had moved him. “All is well, Lady Y/N…” He cleared his throat, before his eyes fell to the floor. “Or, rather, there are no physical ailments burdening me…”

On one hand, you were taken aback by the foreignness of it all. This large man looked as nervous and shy as some of the children you had visited that same morning. On the other hand, it was slightly endearing to learn that a man with the nickname Breakbones was not able to escape the burden of emotions that plagued everyone else. He was just as capable of being human as those two, even three times less his size.

Before you mentally dared to compare him to a gentle giant, Ser Harwin continued.

“I had some… rather enlightening conversations with Princess Rhaenyra during our travels,” he admitted, the nerves he physically displayed betraying his voice ever so slightly as well. “The conversations opened my eyes to a truth that I have denied for quite some time.”

You were surprised to hear that he had not been taken with Princess Rhaenyra upon first sight- most men were. But yet again, Ser Harwin was not like most men.

“I was hoping to discuss this further with you,” Ser Harwin confessed. He looked you straight on, and you couldn’t tear your eyes from his for a moment, even if you had wanted to. “Somewhere more private?”

There was a hopeful glint in his hazel eyes, but the thought of advising him on matters pertaining to keeping the Princess’ interest made you feel suddenly ill.

“Perhaps we could dine together in a few days?” he suggested then, his nerves amplified by your lack of immediate response. “Or, maybe we could take a walk in the gardens?”

You almost caved right then and there. Almost. Ser Harwin knew how much you liked walking through the castle gardens. Even though they paled in comparison to those of Highgarden, they still reminded you of home, and walking along the paths lined with various greenery and floral displays brought you comfort.

“I shall have to see, My Lord,” you replied, even though it practically pained you to not immediately agree. “The Princess has given me leave to visit my father, and I am inclined to take her offer.”

Instead of looking disappointed, Ser Harwin gave you a look of pure guilt.

“My sincerest apologies, My Lady,” he said. “... I may have inadvertently heard about the news of your father. While I did not mean to overhear you, I heard the Princess speak my name this afternoon, while the escort was on the way back to the Red Keep… I feared she required something of me. By the time I realized that I was not needed, I fear I may have heard too much.”

It was nice to have confirmation that the walls of the carriage were not very thick, if only for future reference. Part of you felt embarrassed by the fact that Ser Harwin had overheard your personal matter, but the other part felt relieved that the knowledge that had clouded your mind over the past few days had been made known to one of the few individuals you trusted in King’s Landing. And seeing as Ser Harwin looked and sounded as guilty as he admitted to be, you could not find it in yourself to be cross with him.

“Your apologies are not necessary, My Lord.”

“I wish Lord Tyrell a quick recovery,” he confided to you. “And, should you leave for Highgarden, I wish you safe travels.”

You smiled graciously. “Thank you, Ser Harwin. Should I see him, I shall pass your well wishes along to my father.”

It was Ser Harwin’s turn to smile then. But after a few moments, nervousness seeped into his composure once again. Though he was more soft-spoken than you had once imagined him to be, his next words were said so softly, that had you not been alone in the corridor, with only a few inches between yourselves, you might not have heard them at all.

“Should you decide to leave, Lady Y/N… I fear I will find myself counting down the days until I am in your company once more.”

… This man. This man was going to rip out your heart, tear it into pieces, toss it on the ground, and stomp on it through his impending marriage to the Princess you served dutifully. You knew you had to begin to prepare yourself to suffer through it… But you would also take any attention and warm sentiments that Ser Harwin Strong would grant you in the meantime.

The memories of his kindness that he had shown you would have to be enough to get you through the pain you were sure to endure.

Despite the forwardness of Ser Harwin’s words, what was more alarming was the stark seriousness of his expression. He meant every word of what he had just said, and you believed it fully. Still, you would have to be daft to decry him now just for the sake of proprietary.

“I must admit… I shall miss you too, My Lord.”

By the end of the following week, Princess Rhaenyra was off on her tour of the Stormlands, with Ser Criston Cole glady serving as one of her escorts.

You had seen Ser Harwin in passing since the night you last spoke, but you did not make any further meaningful conversation with him. Though you missed your talks, you reasoned it was better for your heart to start putting some distance between the two of you now, before his marriage to Princess Rhaenyra would place you worlds apart.

You had seen to all the tasks that Princess Rhaenyra had left you with, and had begun to pack and ready the rest of your things. The plan was to embark on the trek back to Highgarden within a day or two.

But your plan was cut short when a messenger knocked on the door to your chambers. You had a visitor, and they were waiting for you in the courtyard of the Red Keep.

You hurried to the courtyard with moderate speed. It was seldom you had visitors- a cousin had visited once, a few weeks back. But besides that, no one had yet to pay you a visit. Many visitors to the Red Keep had it in mind to speak with many, many others besides the likes of you.

But when you entered the courtyard, you noticed the small entourage that had just arrived. No carriage in sight- just several men and their steeds. But that didn’t mean the visitor was from a place nearby. When your eyes fell upon a lean figure donned in the familiar colors of your House, you beamed brightly, knowing that without a doubt, this visitor was truly one for you.

“Brother?”

Your brother, Derron Tyrell, the Heir to Highgarden, turned to face you upon your call. When he saw you, he grinned. “Sister!”

You crossed the courtyard in large strides and practically leapt into Derron’s arms. Your brother caught you and returned your familial embrace with ease.

“I have missed you!” you told him hurriedly, pulling away to look at him. Even though it had only been a few months, going on a year at most, since you had seen him last, it had felt like far longer. But Derron looked the same as he always had, and it brought you joy to see him in good health.

“And I you, Y/N,” Derron replied, his smile still as bright as your own.

“What in the Seven Hells are you doing here?” you demanded of him in a hushed whisper, your arms falling back down to your sides. Suddenly, a terrible thought entered your mind. “Did I miss a raven? Is father-”

“Father is alive,” your brother was quick to assure you. “And you did not miss a raven, for there was none sent to you.”

You let out a sigh of relief.

Derron looked at his entourage surrounding him. Though you recognized most of them as bannermen with whom he had rode and fought beside for years, you could tell that your brother was wary of their presence at this particular moment.

“Come now, Sister- we have much to discuss.”

It seemed that someone, although not you, had been expecting Derron Tyrell to arrive in King’s Landing. Chambers had already been set aside for him and his men, and he’d even been given a special audience with the King later in the week to discuss ongoing matters in the Reach.

Later that day, once your brother was settled in his chambers and unpacked, you met with him. You were eager to learn of the cause of his surprise visit, and to privately discuss what he had referred to in the courtyard.

The pair of you were seated at a table on the balcony connected to his chambers. As Derron poured you a glass of wine, before pouring one for himself, you asked him the question that had been on the forefront of your mind since his arrival.

“How is Father?”

“He’s made a turn for the better since I last wrote to you,” Derron answered truthfully, setting the pitcher of wine down. “He was still too weak to travel here, but the Maesters were even more hopeful than before by the time I left.”

That was great news. Perhaps your return visit to the Reach could wait a few more days, and once your brother’s affairs in King’s Landing were settled, you could ride back to Highgarden with him, and be all the more safer for it.

“What brings you here, Derron?” you asked then.

“You may not have received a raven, but Father did,” he replied. “Father received two of them, actually.”

“Who were they from?”

“The first was from Princess Rhaenyra herself.”

That was extremely surprising. Had you done something to upset the Princess? She seemed alright when she bade you goodbye before departing for the Stormlands… but perhaps she was attempting to save face in front of those around her. Had she written to your father and asked you to be removed from her service?

“I can see your mind racing,” your brother observed with a smirk. “You needn’t worry, Y/N. Princess Rhaenyra simply wished him a swift recovery, and invited him to King’s Landing to visit with King Viserys and to discuss matters of the Reach as soon as he was able to travel once more. I wish I had the letter to show you, but I believe father kept that for himself- the Princess complimented you greatly. I wish you could have seen the smile on his face as he read her words.”

The thought of your father’s smile due to humbling praises from Princess Rhaenyra brought a smile to your own face. You missed him. You missed home. But the visit with Derron would have to be enough, until a more suitable opportunity to return to Highgarden would appear.

“You mean to meet with the King later this week?” you asked, slightly confused. “Have you traveled here on Father’s behalf, then? Was there a matter so urgent that could not wait until he was able to travel here himself?”

“Yes… and no,” Derron. “All is as well as it can be in the Reach; the harvest has been as bountiful as we suspected it would be. But there was another, more pressing matter that required one of us to see to it immediately. Father decided it would be good practice for me to come and speak with the King about business while I was already in King’s Landing dealing with this other matter.”

The other matter must have been extremely pressing, if it had compelled your father to send Derron all the way to King’s Landing without so much as a raven’s notice. “Pray tell- what is this urgent matter you speak of?”

“That would involve the second raven Father received,” Derron pivoted. “Fortunately, I do have that letter in my possession. We both thought it might be best for you to see it for yourself.”

Your brother withdrew a rolled up piece of parchment from his coat, and handed it over to you. You took it with great intrigue, and immediately set about reading the tiny scrawlings littering the page.

“To Lord Larris Tyrell of Highgarden, Defender of the Marshes, Lord Paramount of the Reach, and Warden of the South:

I hope you are able to overlook my forwardness. I, Ser Harwin Strong, son of Lord Lyonnel Strong of Harrenhal, write to you regarding a most urgent matter of the mind and heart…”

You tore your eyes away from the page, and looked back up at your brother. The reassuring look on his face confirmed what you had suspected- your eyes were not deceiving you.

Ser Harwin had written to your father directly.

But what on earth for?!

“We received the raven with this message just a few days before I set out for King’s Landing. But I assure you, Father and I have discussed the contents of this letter at great length.”

You were almost too afraid to ask, but you found the courage to do so anyway. “What does this letter have to do with your visit?”

“If you would continue reading on, you shall see for yourself,” Derron encouraged you. “There are important conversations to be had with Ser Harwin Strong… as well as his father, Lord Lyonel. Such matters are far more appropriate to address in person, rather than by letter.”

Your eyes fell once more down to the parchment in your hands. “What matters could possibly require such attention?”

“... I can tell by your reaction that you have not spoken with Ser Harwin as of late,” your brother deduced. Didn’t last week count? “But that is of no matter. Now that I am here, we can all address it. Please, Y/N. Keep reading.”

“...

I would like to start by wishing you the quickest of recoveries.

I hope this letter reaches you in due time- I intend to discuss this subject with Lady Y/N in depth as soon as she allows me, and as soon as I muster up the courage to do so. I believe she is the one who deserves to learn of this matter first, and so that she may pass her judgment on it. But, on the advice of my father, out of respect for your great House, and out of respect to my own, I thought it wise to at least enlighten you about my intentions.

I apologize- I have never had the reputation for being a particularly eloquent man. But for this letter, I shall to be just that. I have only recently returned to King’s Landing from escorting Her Grace, the Princess Rhaenyra to my home, the Riverlands. Despite the tiredness I feel, the journey opened my eyes to a truth that I feel drawn to act upon at once.

My Lord, I have had the immense pleasure of sharing company with Lady Y/N since the Princess Rhaenyra recruited her to be of her service some time ago. Although I am sure you are aware, Lady Y/N is a great compliment to your house. Her kindness and charms are extended warmly to all, from the royal family to the poor of King’s Landing. Her wit entertains all who are blessed with her conversation, and her tenacity to succeed in an environment without the support of her family, who she clearly loves so dearly, has been nothing short of inspiring- even to a ‘brute’ such as myself.

All of this, when combined with the mere passage of time, and counsel from Princess Rhaenyra herself throughout our recent travels, has led to me to face one conclusion that I have been blind to for some time.

I have become completely captivated by Lady Y/N.

Derron’s next words nearly fell upon deaf ears as you spaced out, torn between continuing your enthralled reading of the letter in your hands, and seeking clarification to the many questions that had been raised by it.

“It would seem,” your brother said wistfully, “That I am here to discuss the terms of your courtship, and inevitable betrothal, to Ser Harwin Strong.”

You were astonished.

“But before I can do that, I must know… Is this what you truly want?”

I consider them more than my virtual friends, they are my virtual sisters considering that I talk to most of them almost everyday and they make me so happy and they also make my stay in the mostly negative social space bearable.

To tell a little history, we connected virtually because of one person who goes by the name of Taylor Zakhar Perez. It's still surreal to me that one person could bring you a virtual family that you could love and appreciate with your whole heart and soul.

Requests August 2023 update

Hello my wonderful friends!

Thank you for being patient with me as the opening of the requests was delayed by a week, but here I am again!

Over the past months, I’ve written dozens of Chosen one-shots and I’ve enjoyed every single one of your requests. I am incredibly grateful for all of your overwhelming love and support. Every little comment and like means more than you’ll ever know. Writing for this show has connected me to so many wonderful people and it has greatly helped me in my walk of faith. I am still rounding off the April request-batch and going through them as fast as I can, so if you haven’t yet seen your request pass by, fear not, I am still working on it! I have a handful of requests to fulfil, which are to be found in the schedule (pinned post).

I’ve tried to keep a consistent schedule when it comes to uploading fics. About two or three, sometimes four releases a week. Owing to my lenient college hours, I’ve been able to keep up this speed, but I am saddened to inform you that the amount of uploads will drastically change soon.

Once summer is over, I’ll be starting my full-time job as a teacher. It is a major part of my graduation year of college and it will require a lot of me. This means that I’ll encounter a major drop in my time and energy when it comes to maintaining my current speed of writing. However, this also means that I’ll need to write some fanfics upfront, just so I can keep posting in the first weeks of my job, so that I don’t have to worry about that for a while. I really want to keep putting out Chosen content, but I cannot keep up with my current consistency.

Sure, I have summer break right now, but my personal life has also gotten busier in the most positive sense of the word. I have always told myself I wanted to let my personal life go before my online life, so that is something I want and need to hold onto.

So, the amount of uploads will change to about one post a week.

Oh, and some more news! I had not expected to have a significant male audience, so I want to start catering to them as well. In the August 2023 request form, you will find a new option to select whether you want the one-shot to be for a male or female reader. I will try my very best to represent a male reader to my best ability, because I have no experience in writing male readers.

Please be aware that I’ll be applying Biblical values to my one-shots when it comes to romance, so please request accordingly.

What does this mean for the coming weeks?

I will need to ration the amount of posts since I need to write some stuff upfront. (This does not include headcanons or ABC’s, these will be posted sporadically.)

August 22nd, the requests will close.

Throughout August, September, October and maybe November, there will be 1 one-shot a week. Perhaps that I can offer more, but time will have to tell, because it depends on how my writing-marathon goes. I don’t want to put the bar too high for myself.

Around December, I hope to open the requests again. This may be earlier, but no promises yet!

I really wish I could offer you more, but I can’t risk losing the joy I’m feeling whenever I write for this show, and I want to deliver quality rather than quantity.

Although I will not post as much, I will try to actively keep participating in my Chosen Fans Discord server. The community is small but sweet. It hosts several events, such as Bible Studies, Chosen Watch Parties and we’re planning on doing movie nights as well! I would love to keep in touch, so I hope to see you there!

TL;DR - Requests are open again. I’ll be sporadically posting about 1 chapter a week for the next few months so I can settle into my new job. Male reader-insert requests are now a thing as well, of course all within Biblical context.

Sigh...

I have to clarify why I want to leave.

Why would I want to leave though? A lot of people are supporting me. They come to my asks to encourage me, and I’m so grateful for that. They like my works and leave positive reviews. It was a great feeling. Why am I still not satisfied?

Well, it’s because of this.

And this.

Do you see this?

This is what I do not like.

My girlfriend received so much hate because she wanted to support my content. It was her effort to try and say that what I do is valuable but she got hate. She got hate for trying to support me, she got vulgar threats for trying to make me stay. She has been a victim of so much cyberbullying and most of us probably haven’t seen half of it if THIS is how many asks she hasn’t answered.

Is this her reward for trying to support me? This is not a reward. This is a punishment.

Why would I want to see this? Why would anyone stay in a fandom that abuses their content creators like this? Why would content creators be willing to stay after receiving so much cyberbullying just because they wanted to create something new? Just because they want to support someone close?

Gia is still not of legal age. I am still not of legal age. MOST OF THE FAN CONTENT CREATORS OF THIS FANDOM ARE NOT LEGAL AGE, and yet they are treated with such disrespect and vulgarity. Someone has gotten TRAUMA because of this. Trauma is not a light matter to gloss over yet this fandom glosses it over as if it was just some bad weather and comes back to abuse the broken again. Is this really what you guys find fun? How sickening. You must be rolling over your bed with happiness to know that another content creator is near to quitting. You must be so JOYOUS to see that little kids are crying in their bedrooms at night in realization that the show they take comfort in and the world they have made their very own is crushed and stomped to bits by bitches online.

And regarding to YJ, they have quit the fandom because of you all. Of course, you must be happy about that. But many of us are not. You made one of the people I look up to quit. I may not seem like it but I look up to YJ a lot. She’s like an Ate (big sister in Filipino) to me. She gives me advice when I need it, vent when I have to. She’s such a great person and I am so pissed at all of us that we made her leave. And to have someone suggest that THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE ABUSE instead of me? She has already been abused enough. Why do you want to abuse her more? And to say that with a smiley face. Do you think this is a cute suggestion?

I wanted to leave then too. I wanted to leave so many times. I wanted to just throw my phone away and forget Tumblr ever existed because they made one of the people I looked up to leave. The reason I stayed was for Gia and the things I have left unfinished. Now, with the treatment you are giving her because of me, it seemed as if it isn’t worth it.

Like YJ said, the amount of tolerance I have for this fandom is utterly ridiculous. The abuse this fandom gave to us is not worth it. The joy I had when I came to this fandom has been quickly replaced with so many overwhelming negative feelings that I have no idea how to process.

It’s not only the hate towards me that I want to leave this fandom for. It’s the absurd amount of abuse the content creators get in return of just sharing their work.

After this post, what are you going to do? Tell us to suck it up?

“Because all content creators have to take hate or criticism once in their life”

“I shouldn’t be complaining about this then. This isn’t just my problem”

“I’m such a bitch for doing this”

“This is your fault to begin with. You made something controversial”

“You’re trying to seek attention with this”

Someone will get hate because of this post. I will get hate because of this post. Someone must be cursing us right now. Someone must be preparing their attacks already, sharpening their knives and readying their stones. You must be preparing a ‘criticism’ so hurtful that it will lead me to cry to tears again.

I’m sorry for the content creators who gave up because of this fandom. But I’m happy they left for greener pastures.

YJ, Alex, hottakes... Who else?

They must be taking care of themselves right now, disassociating with this fandom.

So... This is my reason why I want to quit. Would any one else like to object?

Honestly... I think we should all quit this fandom.

Or at least quit Tumblr.

Hey! Lately I've seen a lot of these "appreciation" and "positivity" ask posts circulating around from people towards their favorite writers and I've kind of wanted for a while to send in something too. I didn't really want to just go with a copy-paste one though, so I decided to write my own appreciation/positivity/gratitude letter to you. I won't lie, but I was kind of nervous at first about writing it since I don't have the best way with words, but oh well, here goes nothing. I have no idea if you'll even see this or not or if you'll read it, but I wrote it anyways.

First off, I'd like to start my appreciation post with your writing. Dude, you have one of the most dedicated, detailed and thoughtful writing I've ever came across in my life! What you make could be easily called a work of art and I mean every single word of this! One can really tell that you are passionate about what you are doing and let me tell you, you are doing not only a good job, but an amazing one with every piece and thread you write, be it a serious story type one or a silly crack post that makes me cackle every time, everything you write is clearly wrote with dedication to your craft! So yeah, your writing is a solid 100/10, never give up on what you do and what you love, because it's simply amazing. And I swear, every time you posted an OOC announcement saying that you thought that your writing sucked, I was like "Bitch please! If there's one person who's writing could never fail or suck in this whole place, that would be you! So don't you ever say that your writing is bad!", because your writing isn't and has never been bad! In fact, when I first started out and saw the threads you had going on, it was one of my dreams of actually writing with such a good writer like you one day, ngl, you really inspired me! So no matter what, don't ever lose faith in yourself and never give up on your hobby!

Then comes your portrayal of Chishiya. Man, I don't know what you do or how you do it, but I swear to God, you managed to capture the essence of Chishiya in the best way possible! It's like the perfect blend of show!Chishiya and manga!Chishiya and it's as if you are in his head and it's just... Words can't describe it, it's just flawless. It kind of reminded me of the way I used to perceive him in my mind and it's probably what drew me soo much to how you write Chishiya because yeah, you really captured perfectly the essence of his snarky, bitchy and condescending attitude, yet him still being somewhat devoted to those he cares for, that I like soo much about him and it reminded me why I liked Chishiya in the first place. It kinda rekindled my love for him from back when I first watched the show and read the manga. So yeah, no matter how many Chishiyas would be out there, I don't think either of them could ever replace yours and yours will probably remain my favorite one. Again, I don't know how you do it, but just keep doing that thing that makes your Chishi great and never change a thing, because it's already perfect. Thank you for sharing your Chishiya with us and thank you for bringing him to life!

And lastly but not least, I would like to preface my gratitude for our friendship. Yeah, I am someone you know and wrote with. I just want to say a sincere and grateful thank you for being one of my first close friends on here. I remember when I first started out writing on here and I didn't have many friends or people I knew in the community. I was always shy and scared of reaching out to people because I thought my writing sucked and that no one will like me or my Muse, so I was mostly sticking with the people I already knew and were supporting me. At first I was simply watching your writing from afar, just enjoying the interactions between Chishiya and Niragi you had going on, because they made me laugh or be like "Oh my!". I really admired you and looked up to you in a way, as stated before, because I always thought and still think that your writing is spot on. And then, one day, I took the bull by the horns and launched my own attempt at an interaction. I didn't really have much hope for it that you will reply, but to my surprise, you actually did and well, it was fun and slowly it was the beginning of a nice friendship. The dumb stuff we wrote back then still bring a smile to my face to this day and they'll forever be a part of my happy memories in this community. I can only hope you had fun writing with me and enjoying the interactions we created between our Muses as much as I did. So thanks again, from the bottom of my heart, that you accepted me and became my friend.

I know I most likely wasn't the greatest friends out there and most often than not I was probably a handful to deal with, given my very energetic and hyped kind of personality, so I am sorry if I ever said or done something stupid. Even so, I always tried to be there for you and show my support as much as I could, because I truly cherished our friendship. Other than the IC interactions we had, I also enjoyed our little talks OOC too. They weren't very often, that's true, but they still made me laugh and made me happy and every time I look back at them they still make me smile. I know it was mostly my rambling, but thanks for listening to me and talking to me, especially for when I told you about the loss of my furr babies. It was somewhat nice to actually be able to talk about my happy memories with my beloved cats without feeling the need to weep thinking back on them, so thank you for not turning me off and letting me talk about them. And hey, who knows, maybe I was actually right and my dear kitty cat really reincarnated as Nijiro's cat, who knows. Anyways, these were some really nice memories. Oh, and not to forget the times we discussed the dumb shit our Muses did, dude, that was hilarious af! Those truly were amazing times!

So yeah, thanks again for being someone I could call a dear friend and for writing with me both in and out of character! And thanks for everything you do in this community!

Well this appreciation and positivity ask post really turned out to be a very long one. Heh, I guess it ended up being more of a letter I guess. I dunno if you actually read it up to this point, but if you did, I truly appreciate it and I hope it made you smile at least a little bit. Again, I dunno how well I managed to convey what I wanted to tell you since I am terrible when it comes to words, but I did my best. No matter what time will tell and where it will take you, just don't forget that there'll always be someone who cares about you and appreciates you and your work and don't ever let anyone change who you are or the way you write your character!

you are absolutely right regarding NP featuring a parade of horrifying clueless men masquerading as doms where all of marianne's masochistic tendencies seem to get repeatedly exploited without the scenes being "resolved" in any meaningful or helpful way. & instead of an ideal result of her feeling somewhat better and at peace, they leave her the same raw bleeding wound of a girl. and your take on connell needing to prove to himself he's good and good TO marianne when in reality many times he has been anything but... really brilliant. i don't think i've ever thought of it that way, as lost as i was in my harrumphing about what i took as rooney's repeated portrayal of slow vanilla sex being equated to true quasi-soulmate-bond love and affection. though i am first to admit i am a very sensitive girl who will immediately take things to heart if i see myself in a piece of fiction, and sometimes miss the bigger literary analysis picture. i'm so glad i sent an ask! also lol @ paul and daisy definitely sacrificing some canon information to say get behind me BDSM baddies of all types we got y'all. going a little out of order here, but i have found that the day i let go of trying to understand, rid of, or narrativize my sexuality, gender expression, and sexual interests and just say "whether it came from some event or is inherent or is a choice, it just is what it is, and that's okay" it paradoxically became way less of an issue for me, and way easier to express what i like and want just for the sake of it. in my opinion, there's only so much exploring we can do before it becomes a sort of ouroboros of "i'm trying to work stuff out for me" turning into "i'm trying to be sexually palatable in a new way".

My Response to a Rude Comment - Fandom Etiquette and Entitlement

The first comment I got on my latest update of Vessels of Wrath was an alleged unregistered A03 left a rude comment, and not the first of its kind that I have received. It was deeply discouraging to me as someone who creates in their free time, so I decided to respond. I am sharing here in case it is helpful to other creators who face the same issue.

I would just like to express my thanks for supporting me and my writing and I would like to reiterate what they said. As someone who has been reading and engaging with fanfiction since 2013, I assume that you understand we do this for free and for fun. I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are a student and might not understand that many of us fanfic writers and fanartists work regular 9-5 jobs to support ourselves. Fanfiction is something we do in the limited free time that we have. Believe me, there is nothing I would like more than to sit down and spend eight/nine hours a day working on, planning, drafting, editing, rewriting, brainstorming, writing fanfiction. I already have most of this story planned and key scenes already drafted. The fact that it has taken me three months between chapters one and two should show just how much work I, and other writers put into our stories.

I believe you when you say that you meant no offense, and as someone who spends just as much time reading fic as I do writing it, I understand asking about updates. I've asked about them myself from authors I've enjoyed! There is this soulmate AU that is one chapter long that I have kept bookmarked for a year now and periodically check back to see if it has updated so I understand wanting to know when another chapter is coming. I am grateful for your excitement and I am so glad you enjoyed the fic. Here are some things to consider however, for next time you want to leave a similar comment on someone's work:

1) If I knew when I'd be posting the next chapter, I would tell you. I would put that directly in the notes section at the end. I specifically do not have an update schedule because A) This is not my professional job, B) that puts stress on the writer and fanfic writing should be enjoyable not a source of stress. C) I don't want to let my readers down! I would never want a situation where I say "Next chapter coming in a month!" and then something like this happens where I get a new job and things have to be pushed back and I let fans down without an update. It has happened before and it is not a good feeling for anyone. If I ever do post about an update it will only be when I am putting finishing touches on editing and I am positive it can be posted when I say it will be.

2) Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated. Put yourself in the other person's shoes! Would you like it if you spent three months planning, editing, drafting, revising a lengthy chapter, finally posted it, and the first feedback you got was along the lines of "when is the next one coming?" Without any comment about the actual content of the chapter, the story itself, the characters, or anything that piqued your interest other than a demand for more. Consider thinking twice or at least tell the writer things you liked about the fic, what drew you to it etc. before you ask for updates. It is extremely discouraging in part because it reads as: "what you worked on here is not good enough, I want more."

Again, I do thank you for your interest and for reading! I always say comments keep me going. I don't think you meant anything malicious by it at all, I don't think you're a "bad-fan," but I want to be honest and transparent with you about the community of creators you have engaged with for so long as a fan. We are not professionals, we do not owe you the amount of time or energy or promises for content as creators who are getting paid as their livelihood to do this. What I mean by that is you would not be commenting on ND Stevenson's work in that manor, and he is paid to do it, so please do not say things like that to us as fanfic writers and fan artists.

Thanks again for your interest in this story! I really do hope I can post chapter 3 sooner than this update, and I will do my best, (I already have it outlined), but again I do not commit to an updating schedule in case things change. To everyone who has followed this Glitra romp thus far, you have my deepest heartfelt thanks. Thank you for this community, for rallying for me when I felt discouraged and for providing an educational opportunity to fans who make these sorts of comments, well-intentioned or not. It truly makes me feel like I belong and have a place in this fandom and people in my corner. You are who I write for. You keep me going. This is going to be a wild ride, and I am excited to share it with you. All I ask is for your patience in return and I of course extend that courtesy to you all as well. <3

I finally found it after I used my spare to start my car and eased down my driveway running over the original key fob with my car. It noisily shattered into a thousand pieces … no clue how it transported itself there but welcome to Mercury Retrograde on steroids. Ditto for a credit card, my glasses... yada yada. This time period is never a time to start something new but it can be a time to complete something you’ve already started prior to this time. So keep that in mind. Do you still do speedpaints or not? Because I haven't seen any new ones on your youtube channel for over 9 months now.

Ahh, yes I haven't made speedpaints in almost a year. 🥲🤧The first reason is that I've only been drawing sporadically and in small sections at a time like a sketch here, a bit of lineart there, and colouring over different sessions 😅 so it's messy for me to record and compile~😔 and the second reason is my screen capture program stopped working and I need to purchase it to use it again, 🧐but I felt like it wasn't worth the price since I hardly used it anymore T . T A bit of a negative feedback loop 🥲 once I start drawing more again, I'll look into recording the processes again 🖍💪😄💪💕

I would be very grateful if you could explain your thoughts on cannibalism! < 3 it would be lovely to finally find someone who could finally expand on their ideas. Also cannibalism as a girl coded.. That's so right

hell yeah i love to talk about cannibalism <3 this is gonna be long so ill put it under the cut

i have a few different thoughts on cannibalism as a concept: how cannibalism can be used in the mourning process, as well as how cannibalism is used in relation to gender, cannibalism as dominance, and cannibalism as love. nbc’s hannibal, which was what initially made me begin to think about cannibalism as a motif, explores cannibalism as mourning, cannibalism as dominance, and cannibalism as love.

*disclaimer* that this is not a hannibal meta, im using hannibal to organize my thoughts on a topic i think can be applied to a lot of different media. hannibal also doesnt really include the cannibalism as gender Thing, so ill save that for last and use movies like raw (2016) to organize my thoughts on that.

hannibal lecter, as a child, eats his sister after shes been killed as a way to mourn her and keep her spirit with him (i will say i am using the tv show’s interpretation of those events, in the books she is fed to him without his knowledge. i prefer the show). now, i am a big supporter of people like caitlin doughty, who encourage people to explore alternative burial and memorial processes for their loved ones, because embalming and those anti-decay caskets are not only bad for the environment, but theyre bad for our ability to make peace with and celebrate those who have passed. caitlin is a big proponent of the family being included in the post-deatn process and burial, and so am i! and i think that eating a loved one after death, if its known that the loved one would have wanted that, has the capacity to be simply another form of burial, no different from keeping an urn of someones ashes on the mantle. the idea of our loved ones whove passed away being cooked and consumed by those they loved most in life, sustaining them and keeping them alive, is pretty beautiful to me.

cannibalism as grieving was only hannibals introduction to cannibalism, however, and its reserved only for mischa. im not positive the exact turn of events with the men responsible for mischa’s death, but i think its sort of widely accepted that he hunted them down and ate them as well. the rest of his life until he meets will is spent killing and eating only as an act of dominance. from indigenous mythologies to the video game character kirby, eating someone/something and thereby gaining their power is a fairly common employment of the concept of cannibalism. but in hannibal, he kills and eats people he believes to be lesser than him, mere cattle to his godlike stature. and he proves this, again and again, by killing, publicly humiliating, and eating them. humans are at the top of the food chain, we have no natural predators, except ourselves. what better way to prove yourself as above the rest of humanity than to put yourself above them on the food chain?

this, of course, brings us to cannibalism as love. hannibal and will are equals. that is the most important thing one needs to understand in order to understand their relationship. hannibal, whose brain works on an entirely different level than the rest of humanity’s, which made it easy for him to put himself on top of humanity in every sense, has met a man whose brain also works on an entirely different level than the rest of humanity. and he falls in love. when you love someone that completely, it can be hard to know how to express it, especially when no one has ever come close to affecting you as much. consumption of the lover can be taken back to cannibalism as grief, loving someone so much you want to carry them inside you forever. lust is often described as a hunger, as explored in ginger snaps (2000), when a teenage girl gets her first period and bitten by a werewolf on the same night, she explains how she thought the hunger she felt was for sex, but it’s really just to tear everything apart. and, im so sorry to bring up supernatural, but in one of my favorite episodes, the horseman of the apocalypse, famine, makes it so a young couple is so starved for each other that they eat chunks out of each other as theyre having sex. not to be that girl, but the idea of being wanted so badly that there is no way to express ones desire other than consumption is pretty romantic.

cannibalism in relation to gender is probably my favorite use of cannibalism in media. ill say now before i get into it that i am a cis woman, and womanhood and femininity are both deeply important to me, but i am not exclusive about who is included in either of those. everything i am about to say is including of trans women, and i think there should be more media where explicitly trans women get to be cannibals too <3 anyway. in raw (2016), a girl whos been vegetarian her whole life goes to vet school, is forced to eat meat, and starts craving human flesh. it and ginger snaps (2000) follow a similar format, of teenage girls’ coming of age through the lens of hunger and fear of oneself. justine, the protagonist in raw, is shown to have an extremely controlling mother and a fairly apathetic father. it isnt deeply explored, but its fairly obvious that shes had a sheltered life. i think this is something a lot of women can relate to, as theres an inherent societal pressure on all women to come off a certain way, to want certain things. that pressure is so extreme on some, that when it’s finally released, the resulting freedom is explosive. outside of her parents control and coming into her burgeoning womanhood and sexuality, justine is hungry for everything shes never had before. her sister is even more monstrous than she is, having been older and not having someone she could relate to at the school to anchor herself to humanity. even their mother, the strict, overbearing vegetarian, is starving. her husband loves her so much he allows her to eat bites out of him to sustain herself.

in jennifers body (2009), jennifer is a beautiful object to everyone around her. she uses this to her advantage, even seems to enjoy the attention, but making peace with your own objectification does not mean you would choose it if youd had a choice at all. this all culminates when a band she’d set her sights on sacrifices her to the devil to bring themselves fame and fortune. this itself is proof that she doesnt really have any control over her own life, because the only thing shes used to reclaim her power, seducing men, has proven to be her downfall. but, killing her proves to be a release of the pressure she was under, because she comes back from the dead and begins killing and eating men to sustain her own power. its not exactly subtle, but it is both cannibalism as dominance and cannibalism as a woman being put in charge of her own life for the first time.

i could spend hours picking apart each movie it think explores these concepts, but i think ive made my point. of course, in both these movies, these womens’ hunger ends up controlling them, instead of vice versa. justines sister, having lost her humanity altogether, ends up in jail after killing justines roommate and crush. the only way to stop the demon inside jennifer is a knife to the heart from her best friend. so where does that leave us? justine and her mom both find ways to minimize their damage, but that is just reinforcing the pressure that caused all of this. how does one quell a hunger thats been building your whole life? do you sacrafice your humanity altogether? what has humanity done for you, as a woman, anyway? wouldnt it be better to eat rather than be eaten? i just think its interesting! and i promise im like. 99% not going become a cannibal for real. unless like a hot girl wants me to. then maybe. idk

Hey guys! I wanted to personally thank you all for the kind comments and messages, they really inspire me to continue writing more and the support truly means a lot! Also, I just found out how to access post replies, I apologize I haven’t gotten to reading them since my first story, I’m still trying to figure out the gist of things here on Tumblr! Anyways, recently I’d only been posting more on Poseidon, so here’s a special one for our Norse god of thunder (aka the god I simp for the most). This idea came to me while out on a camping trip, I hope you guys enjoy it! Feedback would really be welcomed and appreciated!

The Odd Rumble of Thunder

Thor x Reader

Even before the news spread like wildfire, Thor had become under the tyranny of a good habit to bringing his wife with him wherever he may go. It stood to reason that he would never be so careless to invite you over to danger, hence why, at a god’s ephemeral notice, he had stopped seeking direction for his combative side, but when, at last, he had to venture, he made much quicker work of it than when he would have otherwise.

Inarguably, if you’d wanted to lay down and rest instead, it was a surety you’d receive your meals in bed, unbothered. But for Thor there was no guarantee he’d ever have to worry about you, so the whole of Asgard knew by now he’d drop whatever he was doing to accompany you, uncaring about diplomacy in the first place.

Not that Odin nor Loki minded either; especially since the Allfather knew more about the concerns of a father expecting their first child. Moreover, Loki enjoyed shapeshifting into his cousin during days he was absent. It was much more fun to cause mischief legally, as he would say.

Today, Thor stood by his wife who sat comfortably in her rocking chair on the porch, allowing a full view of the hills that sloped gently down to the grand gardens. You were seven months along, approaching the eight month, the swell of your stomach now far more prominent.

At the very moment you had begun to show, you had a companion of whom would almost never leave your side, your husband’s absence in the kingdom gradually becoming more frequent, more lengthened, till at last his presence among his people became an exception. Despite your constant reassurances that you would be fine, Thor insisted on staying, casually sweeping aside your thoughts regarding his habitual sense of duty.

“I would only be gone for nine months to tend to my wife and child, they should fare well on their own lest they are more incompetent than I would’ve thought.” Thor had told you once before, and you’d decided not to question him further on that. You understood your husband’s concerns, to be truthful, you had a few of your own as well, so having Thor assist you alleviated some of the stress and worry concerning your child’s safety.

Especially now that you were nearing your due date. For instance, you were having the toughest time moving, suffering primarily from the weight in your belly and pains in your back and legs that made walking and even standing difficult. What made the physical strain worse too was your child’s eagerness to know you and Thor both, unable to stay long in one position, much like their father’s enthusiasm for battle.

“How are you feeling?” Thor’s question rested upon a rather precise calculation of the last time he had asked the same only a short moment before. It was quite visible in his actions that he did not want to cause any negative feelings if he could help it, though desiring you to avoid stress as much as possible.

You smiled. “Come close. You’ve been standing there for ages just ogling at me.” You opened your arms out wide. “Are you not tired?”

Truth be told, despite Thor’s constant need to remain close to his wife, he felt a real, undeniable fear of touching you, specifically, your abdomen. He closed the distance between until he was right in front of you, staring down at you with hard eyes. Longing leaped like a flame reaching out in his celestial yellow orbs.

“Love, I am always grateful for your concern for me. And I am feeling much better just knowing you’re beside me.” You raised yourself up, pushing against the chair to try to stand. Thor rushed forward, held you then put his hands under your arms to lift you up. Your child was growing fast. “But how about you? How are you feeling?”

You inched closer, your fingers playing with the locks of his hair that you could reach. “Aside from the stress of waiting, I’ve noticed that you have something else weighing on your mind.

“Tell me, what is it?”

At the sight of you through his warworn eyes, his mind was filled with bliss. For that loving glance of yours, he felt a divine presence and holy atmosphere that seemed to pervade everything around you. Having an inkling of what you were hinting at though, he broke your gaze, in an attempt to avert the guilt you conferred on him.

“Please. We’re in this together, I would want nothing more than to help you back as much as you’ve helped me.” Thor felt you shift in his arms, get more comfortable. He felt the bulk of your child across his legs, the weight no doubt pulling you down. Seeing you in pain like that, was sad and unbearable, and the gnawing feeling grew stronger. And since he knew you were always so full of strength and determination, always unrelenting in your attempts to make him feel better, he began,

“I am afraid.” Red eyebrows drew together.

“Afraid of what?”

“That I might accidentally hurt you and our child,” Thor took a deep breath in then let it out in a sigh while taking a step back. “I do not want that to happen, even if I want to be at your side at all times. And this frustrates me to no end.”

Thor did himself a favor by giving attention to anything other than his wife, refusing to be a witness on the sadness and any he may have caused. Dealing with his own disappointment was nothing new, but he had trouble dealing with the fact that he was the cause of yourpain. He wished he could take his troubles which escaped, hanging in the air, and all the bad feelings on himself and let things continue as they were, but he knew it didn’t work that way. You needed to know that he only wanted you and your child safe and protected, even from himself.

He could not understand how the cosmos could play such a cruel joke on the both of you: you, bore so much pain because of one of the greatest affairs of life, and him, the strongest deity in the Pantheon, was powerless against the natural laws of existence.

Strong shoulders slumped, head bowing as stray strands of red hair fell over Thor’s brow. Not again. He did not wish to be reminded of the cautious sympathy his father and cousin had approached him with. His stomach lurched whenever the subject of your frailty came up. Dread and a terrifying fear overwhelmed his soul for the first time, the thought of losing you−

“Hey,” Your voice which lingered on the gentle breeze brushed against Thor’s face, pulling him out of his stupor. He refocused, turning his gaze onto your sweet face.

How were you able to hold yourself up well despite your obvious pain and suffering? Did you not bear the same nervousness as he did? The answer was obvious, practically screaming in Thor’s ears but became deaf following his guilt and clouded instincts. For a long time since you’d first told him about the news, he bore these worries in silence; but when at length he’d been perplexed by your introspection−or seeming lack of it. Why, in fact, did you concern yourself with him at all? Compared to you, there was hardly any threat to his own life posed. Why had you always done more to make him feel better when you were the one who needed it most?

Cutting through the haze he found himself in was the shape of you, or maybe your hair billowing in the wind, a wisp of it across your face, and then suddenly the feel of your skin, the sense of your head on his chest. Even if it were fleeting, that alone brought him the possibilities of comfort that he’d so needed. Oh, how he missed this; you cupped his big callously marble hands around yours, caressing them so tenderly, as if he were fragile and might break, so short it could never be pulled back.

As he relished the warmth of the blaze you gave him for the winter of unease, he’d realized much sooner that the coldness that inched its icy fingers up his spine still threatened to battle your kind words, you, his very own wife, and he detested himself for being unsure whether or not it was of his own doing; was he pushing you away when you’d only wanted to offer your help?

Thor’s immediate impulse was to pull back from you, abruptly halted by your fingers which slipped between his now splayed hand. You wrinkled your nose in a delightfully unguarded manner that caused his breath to hitch in his throat.

“Do you remember the first time we said our vows?” If only you knew the way Thor perceived you: in his eyes, your radiant smile reflected the morning sunlight of Valhalla, for a split second picturing the moment you’d walked down the aisle, that headpiece on your head instantiating the paradox of mystery that once lifted revealed your beautiful face, marking it the best day of his long life. Something warm bloomed in his chest once again and spread its heat out through every vein in his body. He remembered the smooth feel of the veil against his cheek after sealing your promise with a kiss, his lips parting with a breathless sigh.

“Your hands caressed my fit of nerves with light, tender touches and then inspired me with hard, passionate embraces,” With effortless ease, you lifted your intertwined hands to your mouth and kissed his knuckle. Thor watched with great admiration your every move, the desire to distance himself was now but an afterthought. Nothing would ever separate him from you when all you’d ever done was pull him closer than ever.

Then, you sought out his hand, kissing his palm as he stroked your face. You clung onto his arms, gripped at his chest as if you were searching for warmth, as if you needed his touch, and much like him, couldn’t bear to be even an inch away. His mind was still slowing its racing to let him mutter something in response, so he allowed himself to be entranced by how smooth and sure of yourself you were, with nothing to mar the calm serenity of your features. Your smile seemed to be a natural adornment, the utter gentleness in your eyes, reminded him of every morning when he woke up, he would see you by his side, as well as your sleeping snoring face. Right at that moment, the silly scream finally made it to the deaf god’s ears:

He was your haven,

The place you called home and went to find peace.

As Thor immersed himself in your smell, your sparkling eyes, he felt the excruciating cold all melt away in your warmth. No more seeds of doubt with which to sow and seek his destiny. Slowly, he began to see his surroundings from a keener point of view, realizing, then appraising them: from the passing wind your hair messed which he pushed aside, tucking it behind your ear, to how his sash seemed to fit him better indeed, rather than cling onto his skin even tighter as brutally as it had done before. He noticed the minute changes since he’d last taken a good look at you months ago: a little flusher on your skin, lines around the eyes a little deeper, a little increase in body temperature.

He pulled you closer, his actions not arising from calculation instead led by instinct. You let him take more of your weight, your belly pressed against his stomach as you sighed, his fingers working wonders on massaging the muscles that had been much abused in carrying the baby’s weight. A sudden wrenching through his sash struck Thor’s heart and had him holding his breath.

The baby had moved, and he’d felt it.

Bending down, he buried his nose in your hair, closing his eyes as he drank in your scent. Your arms wrapped around his back as he connected in this loving embrace, feeling his heart beat in rhythm with your own.

“Our child would no doubt love to be enveloped in their father’s safe arms,” With a light, gentle touch, your fingers ran through Thor’s hair, making him shiver with delight.

On that day, only the beautiful gardens of Asgard became privy to nothing more than a moment in which husband and wife reached for the same comfort and their concerns met. These gardens were simultaneously the very same place where Thor had first avoided the problems that plagued his mind, but also became exactly the same place where he’d find solace in the arms of his lovely wife.

Resting his hand on where his child was, he recognized that familiar feeling turning up, but upon realizing the bittersweet irony of and within these gardens, the revelation came to him: happiness could also come from the very object of fear.

And as you had an unmovable trust in him, there was an unspoken mutual understanding that he too, should put his trust in you.
