naomi's vd is here!! i can't wait to see what her verdict is gonna be this time. i've recently finished working on her t3 mv concept and it's actually my favorite one rn, so.. hehe >:3
Warnings for Naomi's VD: None
Warnings for Naomi's MV: None, except a child dies, but the description isn't that detailed.
(sounds of footsteps)
Miki: .. Eiji-san?
Eiji: What?
Miki: U-uh..
Miki: I just thought you wanted to talk about..
Miki: Well, what happened earlier.
Eiji: W-what do you want me to say??
Eiji: Yes, I know how weird it is. Yes, I know that Shun wasn't supposed to be able to touch me.
Eiji: I.. I don't understand how this happened either.
Eiji: We're literally the guards of this prison. Aren't we supposed to always be protected? Aren't we supposed to be safe?
Eiji: W-what did go wrong?..
Eiji: Does this mean that the prisoners can easily hurt us anytime they want?..
Miki: If Ishizu-san was able to touch you..
Miki: Does that mean that I'm also-
Eiji: NO!
Eiji: Uh.. I mean..
Eiji: I-I will protect you if anything goes wrong. Trust me.
Miki: ...
Miki: T-thank you, Eiji-san..
Miki: A-and I will protect you too, of course!
Eiji: You already did, actually.
Miki: And I'll do it again if I have to!
Eiji: .. Heh, fine.
Eiji: But still..
Eiji: "Just why was Shun able to touch me? I swear there's always been something protecting us."
Eiji: "I don't remember Akio and Aimi being able to touch us either.. though I don't think they had even tried to do that."
Eiji: "And if it turns out that the other prisoners are also capable of that-"
Eiji: !
Miki: Eiji-san, are you okay??
Eiji: Y-yeah, sorry.
Eiji: We have to focus on interrogating the fourth prisoner. I doubt that she will try to hurt us.
Eiji: ".. But Kei will."
Eiji: "I-it's okay, I don't think he's strong enough to do that right now."
(the door opens)
Naomi: Ah, hello, Eiji-san and Miki-san.
Miki: H-hello..
Eiji: Let's just get started already.
Naomi: Is everything okay, Eiji-san? You seem kind of.. nervous.
Eiji: I'm fine.
Miki: Ah, Chiba-san..
Miki: Can you help me with something, please?
Naomi: Huh? Sure.. But what do I have to do exactly?
Miki: C-can you hold my hand?..
Miki: I know this sounds weird, but I just.. have to see something.
Naomi: But aren't the prisoners-
Naomi: .. Okay then.
Naomi: ...
Naomi: You remember that it's impossible for us to touch you, right?
Eiji: ".. So Naomi still can't touch us."
Eiji: "Then why-"
Eiji: ".. Wait a minute. What if it's not about who can touch us, but which one of us is more vulnerable?"
Eiji: "And if Naomi still can't touch Miki-"
Naomi: Y-you see, I actually have a question for you two.
Naomi: Sorry, I know you're supposed to interrogate me and I will answer all of your questions, but also..
Naomi: Can you tell me what this is?
Eiji and Miki: !
Naomi: We all got these papers yesterday and..
Naomi: I'm sorry, but what's the meaning of being interrogated again if we have already answered your questions?
Miki: W-what does it say?
Eiji:"Prisoner 004, Chiba Naomi, please answer the questions below. You can write as much or as little as you wish."
Eiji: "Question 01: Do you know why you're here?"
Eiji: "Question 02: Have you committed any other crimes except murder?"
Eiji: And there's just more questions.
Naomi: .. So you two also don't know what all of this means.
Naomi: Well that's weird.
Eiji: You got these yesterday, right? Why do you still have them? Akio, Aimi and Shun haven't mentioned anything like that.
Naomi: I got confused and decided to keep them until I get all the answers. If I'm not wrong, when everyone woke up, they couldn't find their papers anywhere, but I still had mine for some reason.
Naomi: I find it surprising myself. I haven't even tried to hide them..
Naomi: I also haven't answered any of the questions as you can see.
Miki: But who would try and-
Eiji: .. Who else would need to interrogate the prisoners except the prison guards?
Eiji: "Me and Miki didn't do it, so that means.."
Eiji: ".. Another guard did it."
Eiji: ".. Of course. If they're hiding somewhere, but still have to do their job, it means that they have to interrogate everyone in some other way."
Eiji: "But seriously, making the prisoners fill out this questionnaire sounds kind of naive.."
Eiji: "Like, did that guard really expect everyone to tell them about their crimes like that?"
Eiji: "Hold on, it has something on the back-"
Eiji: "If you don't answer all of the questions, you will be punished."
Eiji: ".. Never mind, maybe that guard is smart."
Eiji: Wait, Naomi.
Eiji: You haven't answered the questions, right? Do you know what that means-
Naomi: Yes, I know, Eiji-san. I've seen it.
Naomi: Well, if it really was done by a different guard.. I'll just let them do what they want.
Naomi: Just like I had let you vote me innocent even though I wanted you to vote me guilty.
Eiji: ...
Naomi: So if that was a different guard interrogating us..
Naomi: I guess it's time for me to be interrogated by you two, right?
Naomi: I promise I will cooperate.
Eiji: .. R-right.
Miki: So, Chiba-san, how are you feeling? Is everything okay?
Naomi: I feel.. weird.
Naomi: I mean, I was forgiven even though I had asked you to vote me guilty..
Naomi: I honestly didn't know how to feel after you had told me about my verdict.
Naomi: But in the end, I've simply decided to agree with you.
Eiji: .. Why?
Eiji: I expected more resistance.
Naomi: *laughs* "Resistance"? What did you expect from me?
Naomi: Did you expect me to argue with you? Did you expect me to say there must be something wrong with your judgement and morals?
Naomi: I'm not like that at all.
Naomi: .. It's easier for me to just nod and agree with everything.
Naomi: It's always been like that, haha..
Miki: I-I can relate-
Eiji: Even though you're the oldest prisoner, it's easier for you to just follow orders, huh?
Eiji: Well that's lame.
Naomi: ...
Naomi: Hey, Eiji-san.
Naomi: Aren't you doing the exact same thing?
Eiji: W-what do you mean by that?..
Naomi: I don't think you're doing all of this out of your own free will.
Naomi: You're just following someone's orders, aren't you?
Naomi: But I can tell that you like to think that you're the one who has all the power here, haha.
Naomi: So, Eiji-san..
Naomi: Maybe stop acting just like he did, okay?
Miki: "He"..
Miki: Y-you mean your victim, right?..
Naomi: ...
Naomi: Oh well, looks like it's time to talk about that.
Naomi: Yes, I was talking about my victim.
Eiji: If I'm acting just like he did..
Eiji: .. Did he also call you out for being so weak-willed?
Naomi: This is not me being weak-willed.
Naomi: I'm just trying to survive, just like everybody else here.
Naomi: If you think me agreeing with your decision is a bad sign..
Naomi: Maybe you simply shouldn't have voted me innocent then.
Naomi: Actually, why did you even agree to vote me innocent? Didn't you promise that you will vote me guilty?
Naomi: .. Were you following someone's orders?
Eiji: Y-you!..
Naomi: What's wrong? Are you regretting your decision?
Miki: Chiba-san! Please stop provoking him!
Naomi: I'm not. I'm afraid Eiji-san simply gets angry a bit too easily.
Naomi: But anyway..
Naomi: What questions do you have for me?
Miki: .. S-so, y-your victim was a child, right?
Naomi:*nods* Exactly. He was 10 years old.
Naomi: And he was one of my students.
Eiji: Your victim was your own student..
Naomi: Before you say anything else, Eiji-san, I want to remind you that me being voted innocent was your doing too.
Naomi: And I'm sure you already knew that my victim was my own student.
Naomi: I mean, I'm an elementary school teacher and I keep saying things like "Oh, kids can be so cruel"..
Naomi: I don't have any kids and my younger sister is 27, so..
Naomi: It's obvious that if my victim was a child, it means they were one of my students.
Miki: .. But why?
Miki: Why did you kill your own student?
Miki: I thought you're good with kids and-
Naomi: Everyone thought so, Miki-san.
Naomi: I thought so too.
Naomi: But that kid..
Naomi: He was too much for me to handle.
Naomi: I can't blame him though, considering what his family was like.
Eiji: But did you seriously kill him just because he thought you saying yes to everyone was pathetic?
Naomi: I knew that if I won't shut him up, I will have to continue saying yes to everyone until the end of my life.
Eiji: Oh, so killing a child sounded like a fun way to rebel?
Naomi: Just so you know, Eiji-san, when I heard him say those words, I felt exactly like you did after I said that you're just following someone's orders.
Eiji: BUT THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF KILLING A CHILD TO FEEL MORE "POWERFUL" AND THEN JUST AGREEING WITH OUR JUDGEMENT EVEN THOUGH YOU WANTED A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT VERDICT?!
Naomi: ...
Eiji: .. If you want to fight for your independence, then you should just keep fighting no matter what.
Eiji: You can't just do one thing and say that it's enough. You will never become truly free if you do that.
(the bell rings, machinery sounds)
Naomi: But Eiji-san..
Naomi: Does this mean that being a prison guard is your own way of fighting for your independence?
Eiji: ...
Eiji: We're the ones who are supposed to be asking you questions, not the other way around.
Miki: Um, Chiba-san..
Miki: .. Do you think you will be okay with your verdict this time too?
Naomi: I will accept your judgement no matter what.
Naomi: You two are the guards, after all.
Eiji: .. Even if that kid was an annoying brat, he didn't deserve to be killed just so that you could feel a bit stronger than usual and then let us do whatever we want with you.
Eiji: Is it really you just being weak-willed or is it you being so happy that you got voted innocent that you don't want to change our mind?
Naomi: I'm-
Eiji: Well, whatever it is..
Eiji: Prisoner 004, Naomi, sing your sins!

[ MV Description ]
Her MV would have mostly black, white, gray and darker shades of teal in the beginning, but it would have more red closer to the end.
Naomi is sitting in what appears to be a living room. There are two dark figures sitting on the couch in front of her and it looks like they're talking to her about something. Naomi is listening and nodding, but she also looks kind of anxious and she refuses to look them in the eyes.
"Here you are, telling me that old story again
The story that I already know
Or at least I think that I know"
Suddenly one of the figures stands up and tells Naomi to follow them somewhere. Naomi does exactly that and it looks like that figure wants to show her someone's room. Naomi realizes that it's actually a child's room and looks terrified.
"No, no, I don't need to see it
I already know that I'm "Guilty"
So why are you still trying to make me feel sorry?"
The figure gives her that child's diary and lets her read it before leaving the room. Naomi continues reading the diary and she starts crying.
"I can't believe I found out about this only now
Why didn't you tell me sooner? Why didn't anyone else tell me about this?
You've experienced so much pain, even though your life was so short
Does this mean that I've saved you from all that suffering?"
The setting changes and now Naomi is walking along some kind of dark hallway full of doors with dates written on them. She sees a certain date, gets nervous, but still opens that door.
It looks like she's inside of one of that child's memories now. She sees herself sitting and drinking tea with her students, meanwhile one of the kids, a little boy with orange hair and red eyes, sits alone and nobody wants to talk to him. The "Present!Naomi" puts her hand on his shoulder, but the kid doesn't react.
"I tried to help you, I really did
I saw myself in you, I knew you were struggling
But you still pushed me away
So don't blame me for being a little bit angry"
The setting changes again and now it looks like Naomi is at someone's funeral. She's crying and the two figures from one of the past scenes try to comfort her. Some time passes and now Naomi is visiting that person's grave and even though she looks genuinely sad at first, everything around her starts becoming more red.
"I know I'm "Guilty", I know I am
But everyone around me keeps saying I'm "Innocent"
Who should I believe? Hey, if you still can hear me
Tell me, would you still laugh at me for being so foolish?"
The grave gets replaced by a door with a different date being written on it and Naomi opens it. It's a different memory now and it scares her even more. Naomi sees herself crying and it looks like someone has slapped her. She also sees her students watching her while hiding and they all look like they feel sorry for her, except the orange-haired boy from before.
"Come on, at least pretend that you feel bad for me
Or actually, maybe I don't deserve your pity
Is this your revenge? Or are you just that cruel?
Aren't you too small to have so much evil in your body?"
She takes a step back and suddenly falls back into the memory from before, but now Past!Naomi is drinking tea with everyone and the orange-haired boy stands up, points at her and starts laughing at her. Other students ignore him and some of them hug Naomi and try to cheer her up. When the boy realizes that no one is agreeing with him, he walks away and tries not to look defeated. Naomi asks the children to leave her alone for a second and she walks up to him and puts her hand on his shoulder again. The boy looks surprised and his eyes light up for a moment, but Naomi's eyes become red. She keeps smiling and she even hugs him, but it's obvious that the boy is already in her trap.
"I know I was your favorite, don't try to hide it anymore
"I just wanted more attention"? Well, here it is, try not to drown in it"
Suddenly, the setting changes again and everything starts becoming more and more red. The world around them looks like it's on fire. When the boy opens his eyes and looks around, he sees that Naomi has changed as well. She doesn't look like herself anymore. It looks like she has just turned into a devil. Naomi's hug becomes even more tight and she keeps holding the boy in her arms as he slowly turns into ashes.
"Let's admit it, both of us deserve to rot in Hell
And I refuse to be punished without you next to me"
When he's finally gone, Naomi's eye color turns back to normal and she's back to her human form. She sees that the boy is no longer with her and just keeps staring at what is left from him with an emotionless expression. She stands up and turns away from it. The video ends.

Lingering Questions I Had (Migi & Dali Thought)
After the conclusion of the story, there were some questions in my mind that I either have no answer for or do not have enough conclusive evidence to back any specific answers. This post will just be a list of these lingering questions. More may be added over time if I can think of any.
Of course, spoilers will be discussed.
Q: How do the twins know their own age?
I'm not sure if the twins were aware of their own age around the time Metry died. I imagine that it'd be pretty difficult for Metry to keep track of time while being locked up with the twins. Perhaps the orphanage was able to estimate the twins' age based on their growth development.
Q: When is the twins' birthday?
Unless I'm wrong, I don't think the twins themselves give any clue as to what day their birthday is.
The next best thing is to see when EIji's birthday is. Unfortunately, there aren't really any hints for this either. Perhaps his old photos tell us something, but they don't exactly tell us much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've also thought about Christmas, but that seems a bit too good to be true.
If it's truly impossible to figure out their birthday, then perhaps it was intentionally omitted to highlight the importance of the twins' adoptive family rather than their biological one.
Q: How did the twins escape the orphanage without them notifying the Sonoyamas?
This one does baffle me a bit. I'm pretty sure the children and staff at the orphanage would remember the existence of a pair of blonde twins, and perhaps they would even remember their names. I'm not exactly sure how they would react when the Sonoyamas tell them that they'd like to adopt only one of the twins, and with a name that they've probably never heard before. This leads me to the following possibilities:
The twins lied to the orphanage about their name, or:
One of the twins ran away well before it came time for Hitori to leave for the Sonoyama house, or:
The orphanage were truly negligent or didn't really care that much about the twins, or:
The orphanage did actually tell the Sonoyamas eventually, whom kept this knowledge a secret from the twins.
Personally, I'm leaning towards the third option.
Q: At what point (e.g. episode or chapter) did they begin to suspect that they had twins?
There were definitely quite a few moments in the story that would probably make them suspicious of Hitori.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't imagine that they would be onto the twins too early in the story. As much as I'd believe that they'd respect the twins' privacy, I think they would know that it would not be in their sons' best interest to have them continue living as one.
Q: Does Akira know that the twins are his sons? If so, then what is the nature of the relationship between him and them?
Honestly, I'm surprised that he didn't suspect this immediately the moment he met them, considering how much he loved Metry and how much the twins resembled her. Perhaps the twins told him off-screen during Episode 12. Or, perhaps Eiji told him just before he was about to spend about two years in the juvenile detention center.
If he does know about his two sons, then perhaps he felt that he didn't have any right to just take them and leave, considering the fact that the twins suffered much hardship partly because of him and the fact that the twins already had a new family. But maybe he'd be interested in making it up to them at some point, considering that he was willing to come back to Origon Village to have cherry pie with the Sonoyamas.
Q: Why did Akira give Fidelite to the Sonoyamas?
I know that Fidelite is supposed to be a symbol for Dali, but still, it bothers me that there's no explanation for this. One farfetched idea I had was that maybe he gave Fidelite to the Sonoyamas and then told them about the twins.
Q: Have the twins ever visited Eiji in prison?
It's not like it was ever stated directly in the story that Eiji's return from prison was the first time they've seen him since his arrest. All they said was "Welcome back" or "Congratulations on your release". Thus, I think it's possible that in between Christmas 1990 and March 1993, the twins could have visited him at least once.
Q: How did Eiji know about Sali? How did he know it was Dali?
Tumblr media
It's possible that he found out during Episode 9, but I think it's more likely that Reiko knocked him out before he could discover the truth. I also don't imagine that the twins would tell him in Episodes 11 or 12. If they did visit him in prison, perhaps they told him then. It's also likely that Eiji figured it out himself (the question is, when?), since he is pretty smart after all.

Mediaposting 2023, #35: Banana Fish (anime)
Tumblr media
[said while vibrating very quickly and typing out like 20 different bullet points] i like this series a normal amount
okay so. non-spoiler thoughts:
step 1 YOU SHOULD READ/WATCH THIS. it does have content warnings for literally everything you can possibly think of as needing a common content warning (drug abuse, sexual assault, racism, and thats absolutely just the tip of the iceberg) but my fucking god. no wonder it's been such an influential piece of media on literally every jp anime/manga crime story (especially the BL ones) written since
for a series that is literally one of the early genesis points of BL as a genre i was ABSOLUTELY expecting more actual BL than was in this LOL. not that i'm really upset, bc honestly i really like the way that ash and eiji's relationship is written in a shoujo-y "they obviously care about each other a lot but it's not going to be outright romance" kind of way. bc like, honestly? that makes it way more emotionally satisfying (and devastating). i think it would actually make less sense if anything more happened In the story (though more happening in the epilogue wouldnt hurt LOL)
how the FUCK was this published in a shoujo magazine
the time period change to modern day from the mid-80's has both helped and hindered this series bc like. on one hand. much easier to do everything with a phone. also the update to shorter's character design was excellent,10/10 no notes. on the other hand. the Everything About It makes it so obvious that it was written to be a product of its time.
speaking of ^ ash turning from A Guy Who Knows How To Use A Computer into a hacking genius is so. why. i mean you can update it for sure but Why Like This
god i wish this had more room to breathe sometimes bc the exposition goes WILDLY fast sometimes. why did they try and do 19 volumes in 24 episodes. the 39 episodes that the director wanted would have been so nice to have
that said: the emotional moments that i actually give a shit about and that make up the core of the weight of the story are given what they deserve. at least up to volume 5 they are. gestures at ep 9? and 22 with a pained smile
i literally could write an essay about why it works so well as a spin on the american-style gangster story even while it definitely has flaws. and how its influenced so many fucking things. my god.
it has flaws for SURE but the rest is so good that i don't care. which is rare for me (gestures at nirvanai/neo twewy being other examples)
spoiler thoughts under the cut (like full-very-ending-of-series spoilers) but YEAH UH I LIKE THIS THING CAN YOU TELL BY HOW MUCH I WROTE ABOUT IT.
it does kind of annoy me that literally all of the canon-MLM (probably gay but you know) guys are horrible people lol. like wow love how the gay predator stereotype is on full display here. feeeeels baaaaad. i know i know asheiji homoeroticism i am ON THAT TRAIN
however yut-lung being feminine out of a wish to carry on his dead mom's legacy is kind of a slay. ive seen people go "ugh it sucks that one of the villains is a feminine man' but while he is definitely not a good person hes one of the less terrible villains, just like. as a person. hes also a teenager in shitty circumstances just with way more power and sway
here's the part where I admit that I was spoiled on the ending so it didn't hit as hard for me OOPS. however. the anime DOES leave it open-ended and it fucking irritates me that anime-only people are like "boo i hate the ending bc ash dies!!!" when it is LITERALLY AMBIGUOUS. i have heard that the manga is less ambiguous about it but :') oh well. anime-onlys what are you doing
speaking of ^ i actually like the ending. like i think a lot of people who absolutely hate it must not have a lot of familiarity with gangster movies as a genre bc it is a genre convention that the Main Gangster dies in the end. granted this was a hayes code thing which the manga definitely did not have to do LOL but its definitely supposed to feel unfair bc ash's damn LIFE is unfair.
however i'm glad the anime makes the ending ambiguous bc that feels like a more fitting end. like ash's life was always in limbo, considering what he was doing, so making his life in limbo at the end too? Good. Yes. Do That
the fucking. everything with shorter and the sa-yo-na-ra bit. i die. that shit is so emotionally painful
i know this sounds weird but i kind of wish they dragged out the "what the hell does banana fish mean" thing a LIIIITTLE longer but by that i mean like, halfway point of the series. like they could have used a little more time to figure out what it is. also that would have let shorter live a little longer ay lmao that said this criticism also almost definitely applies to the manga soooo. you know

If you're taking requests at the moment, could I ask for some soft Yut Lung and Shorter? And pls make it a little angsty too hehe
"I bet you're happy about this," Yut-Lung says, scoffing.
Shorter grins, rubbing at the back of his head. "Yeah. I mean, why wouldn't I be?"
"It doesn't bother you that they get—all that? And that you don't?"
Shrugging, Shorter says, "Ash and Eiji's engagement? No, man, it doesn't bother me."
Yut-Lung crosses his arms. "I mean, I just—yeah. I'm jealous, okay? Why wouldn't I be? Ash was supposed to be ... I thought he was ..."
"He's not like you, Yue," Shorter says quietly, but he doesn't make it sound like a bad thing. He doesn't make it sound like either way is bad.
It kind of pisses Yut-Lung the hell off. "So what, then? No one's like me? I'm—I'm all alone, and then get—?"
"Yes, Yue. No one's like you. You're yourself, not anyone else."
Yut-Lung glares.
Shorter stares him down. "You're not your brothers," he whispers.
Yut-Lung flinches back. "That—I wasn't—"
"I know you were thinking it."
"Shut up!" Yut-Lung says, maybe a little hysterical. "I—I am like them, okay? Of course I am. They raised me, after all. Why wouldn't I be exactly like them?"
"You're trying not to be, right?"
"Of course, I—What kind of question is that?"
"Do you think that they had any issue with the way they were?"
Yut-Lung frowns. What ... ?
"Do you think they wanted to change? To be better? To avoid hurting people?"
"I've hurt people!" Yut-Lung yells. He wraps his arms around himself.
"I know. Like you said, though, you were raised to, right?"
"That's no excuse."
Shorter smiles, a little sad. "I know," he whispers. "But you're trying, Yut-Lung. I know you're trying. You don't want to be the person they raised you to be."
Right, Yut-Lung thinks, a little sarcastic. His brothers raised him to be a lot of things—many, many things—and not a single one of them is something that Yut-Lung wants, or that he chose for himself.
He swallows that thought down, though. "I think I'm the same person I've always been," he whispers. It's always been his fear, since his brothers died—that he's incapable of change, no matter how hard he tries.
"I think you've already changed for the better," Shorter insists. His smile broadens, more of what Yut-Lung would expect to see from him. "But even if not, you're trying harder than you were before. And no one can fault you for trying to better yourself."
"Ash can," Yut-Lung counters. "He wouldn't forgive me so easily."
Shorter nods slowly. "Maybe not. But you're here, aren't you? In this world, and at this engagement party. You wouldn't be either if Ash weren't okay with it."
... Maybe that's true. Ash and Yut-Lung both have a way—often the same way—of getting exactly what they want, regardless of the costs.
And if they're both here, in each other's presence ... Maybe they do forgive each other, on some level. Maybe there's a bit of forgiveness in the world for people like Ash, or people like Yut-Lung.
Even if it's only from each other.
"T-thank you," Yut-Lung stammers. "Thank you, Shorter. I'm sorry for everything I put you through."
Shorter grins. "Don't worry about it," he says. "It's forgiven."

MOTW hits Onodera, Natsumi, and Kaito with a beam that causes amnesia.
MOTW escapes to live another day.
.------
Ikki: *notices Kadoya is sitting down and not talking*
Ikki: What's wrong Kadoya?
Kadoya: Everything is fine.
Touma: You better not have something chaotic planned.
Kadoya: Just really tired all of a sudden.
Sougo: Tell me about it.
Sougo: Why does that monster have very tough skin?!
Sento: I hate to say it
Sento: But I think Final Form Rides are the only thing that can hurt that monster.
Sento: Our weapons are doing nothing.
Aruto: Can we use Touma's Xros Saber?
Touma: I'd rather use that as a very, very, very last resort.
Emu: That's fair.
Shinnosuke: You better not surprise us when you do your final form Rides, Kadoya.
Kadoya: yeah, yeah, let me get some sleep first.
Ikki: Something's wrong.
Shoutaro: Can someone check on Onodera and the others?
Takeru: I'll go.
*after a few moments, Takeru returned*
Takeru: It's bad, they have amnesia.
Shinnosuke: probably the work of that monster.
Shoutaro: Crap, we need to move fast!
Touma: What's the urgency?
Shoutaro: Kadoya is fading.
Shoutaro: He's literally dying right now!
Emu: What?!
*everyone looks at the sleeping Tsukasa Kadoya, and he was indeed fading*
Shinnosuke: How do you know that?
Shoutaro: Explanation later.
Philip: I've found the monster's haunting place.
Shoutaro: Let's go!
----after the defeat of the monster---
Emu: What were you thinking?!
Kadoya: Hey, I haven't have any idea that they lost their memories.
Emu: I swear Kadoya.
Eiji: Why didn't you reach out your hand for help upon knowing something was wrong?
Kadoya: Give me a break! I really thought it was just fatigue, geez.
Shoutaro: Lay off of him, Hojo, Hino
Shoutaro: If he doesn't know, he doesn't know.
Aruto: Still, that was a close call.
Touma: A close call indeed.
Sougo: If I can control my time reversing powers.
Shinnosuke: Dont blame yourself.
Shinnosuke: The situation was out of everyone's control.
Sougo: still
Ikki: I have a question.
Aruto: I do too
Touma: I feel like I'm not going to like the answer.
Shoutaro: Ask away.
Aruto: Why would Kaito-san, Hikari-san, and Onodera-san losing their memories cause Kadoya to fade?
Ikki: You even said he was dying.
Kadoya: Everyone here knows that I died already right?
Takeru: Yeah?
Kadoya: Unlike Ghost, I am anchored to the memories of the AR Riders like Wataru and Asumu.
Kadoya: But my strongest anchors are those three
Touma: If they lose their memories, especially their memories of me.
Touma: You die.
Shoutaro: The memory of the other AR Riders are mere stop gaps from you fading completely as soon as the Hikari, Kaito, and Onodera lose their memories.
Kadoya: That's a detective for you.
...I'm confused. Why would Xross Saber be a final resort for Touma? It's not like it's dangerous for him to use. Plus it's supposed to come to him whenever he needs it, so it would've showed up the minute he needed a boost.
As for the Tsukasa situation... yeah, I never really understood that, though I guess it's sort of like what Owner says about "existing in the the memory of time" or something.
While I kinda appreciate how Tsukasa's existence is rooted in his inner circle's and the AR Riders' memories of him... it kinda belittles the bonds he made outside them? Idk, it bothers me a little. I mean, Tsukasa might be a jerk but he's their jerk, too.
I also don't like how uncomfortably close this is to the reality that [redacted] created which we have summarily rejected and substituted for one where he is alive and well to wreak havoc

The 13 Lords of the Shogun - Review
SPOILERS!!
Tumblr media
In less than a week, far faster than I've finished any taiga drama, I have finished The 13 Lords of the Shogun. I was evidently addicted to this show, yet again, far more than any other taiga drama. Everytime an episode ended, I booted up the next. I juet couldn't stop.
Certainly there were times I paused it. But this is likely due to my short attention span, but I always came back soon after.
The actors were good; the music was great; there were emotional moments that even made me come close to actually crying.
My favorite fucking characters all died!
I don't know much of this period, so other than Kiyomori, Yoritomo, Yoshinaka, Yoshitsune, Go-Shirakawa, and Noriyori, I literally didn't know when anyone else died. I fucking LOVED Kazusa-no-Suke Hirotsune (Koichi Sato)! I fucking loved that old man, he was soo great! I was very upset when he was publicly murdered. I was heavily upset.
Then (or before) Yoshinaka (Munetaka Aoki), who I actually came to like, fucking dies. I knew he would die, but they made me like him! He was another favorite.
Then I liked Hatakeyama Shigetada because I'm a simp and liked Taishi Nakagawa as Toyotomi Hideyori in Sanada Maru. But on the subject of him, what was up with all the brow-raising he did. In almost every scene I saw him in, he had one brow raised. I don't know what that was about.
But he died too, so yeah. He has a great fight scene with Koshiro (Shun Oguri) that I really liked because... THE ARMOR WORKED! Every time that shit happens, I am happy!
Then my favorites were Wada Yoshimori (Eiji Yokota) and Minamoto no Sanetomo (Hayato Kakizawa). ...yeah they fucking died too. Obviously.
I just loved that old fool, Wada Yoshimori! He was the replacement Kazusa. Plus, my other favorite, Sanetomo, liked him. They were friends! Gods damn it all!
I also called it that Sanetomo (show-wise, as far as I know) was gay. He looked at Yasutoshi (Koshiro's son) way too fondly. Then the jealousy and the love poem. It was obvious.
I was, of course, biased toward the attractive, pathetic, gay twink. Very much so, haha!
Tumblr media
I was very upset at Koshiro for killing them both. Even if Sanetomo's was more indirect. Wada was shot with arrows in front of Sanetomo after he, I believe, surrendered. Sanetomo was assassinated by his nephew, but Koshiro knew it would happen and did nothing. So yeah, fuck me.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I loved how Koshiro slowly went from being upset and admonishing Yoritomo for his scheming and dark actions, to Koshiro doing the same thing so Hojo would stand on top of the samurai.
By the end, I did not support Koshiro's actions. I understood why he did them, but I did not support him, nor did I really like him by the end. I was upset to see him die, especially the way he did, but I still didn't like him anymore.
I liked Ama Midai's speech to rally the Bando samurai. I also liked when she switched from the white headdress to the purple headdress (whatever it may be called).
Tumblr media
Now, Koshiro's fight with Hatakeyama. There was a moment where, if he wanted to, Hatakeyama could have killed Koshiro. There was a too-long pause during the fight. That's a no-no.
Yet again, not all humor landed with me. But the one with Yoshimori and Koshiro, where Yoshimori cuts off his eyebrow, was hilarious.
But anyway, despite all this, I personally give it a 6/10.
Now, do I think it deserves higher? Yes. This is why I changed it to 7/10.
7/10
Currently, my Taiga Drama ranking list has this show at either 3 or 4. Being above or below, Hideyoshi (1996).
I forgot! I loved Hatta (Hayato Ichihara) as well.
Also, they seemed to make the Minamoto bitches. Like Yoritomo: reprehensible actions and spoiled (at least in the beginning); Yoshitsune: impatient, dishonorable, bloodthirsty. He got better after the Genpei War, but not much; Yoriie: almost immediately he takes after his father and is a womanizer. He tries to take a gokenin's wife, and then when that doesn't work, he wants to execute the guy! What the fuck! The only good thing I can say about him is that he tried to rebuild his relatio ship with his concubine and died fighting. That's it; Sanetomo: I love him, but he's weak, way too weak. Being fair, he was always a puppet and hardly had the chance to take power. He also, fairly, sided with the Court in the West. But that is fair considering it was either them or Koshiro (who was reprehensible at this point). He also made the right decision for the wrong reason: Not making Tsurumaru (Koshiro's not "adopted son) a gokenin. Not because he hadn't done anything deserving of it, but because he hugged Yasutoki, whom Sanetomo had a crush on.
The only Minamoto I fully liked was Yoshinaka and his son, Yoshitaka. Perhaps I had nothing against Noriyori.
But yeah, that was it.

i'm glad to hear that you love my guard ocs!! :D it would be fun to see them interact with haruto, haha.
oh and about miki! she's not a murderer actually, though it would definitely be an interesting plot twist, like imagine her and eiji becoming closer and him finding out that she's a sinner just like the prisoners.. however, she thinks she is a murderer. she thinks that someone died because of her and she still blames herself for it. which is kinda sad, she can forgive everyone around her, but not herself :')
also, kei was one of the prisoners who thought that eiji and miki are a couple and he still refuses to believe that what they have is platonic. he even tries to give eiji dating advice, but of course, he just gets punished for it. it's kinda creepy how kei still tries to play a role of a supportive older brother even though what he did to kei in the past was absolutely horrible and he knows it, it's not like he forgot about what he did.. (also fun fact: kei actually doesn't understand how platonic relationships work. like, he thinks they don't even exist. if he becomes friends with daisuke, that would be his first truly platonic relationship with someone)
any thoughts about the prisoner miki is connected to? 👀
Lina, I would say your ocs are kinda messed up, but it's not like my babies are exactly angels either. That's probably why they would get along so well. 😌🤝
Hm...Judging by appearances alone, I'm putting my bets on either Naomi or Reina. 🤔 They looks similar to Miki! I could be wrong though. Who knows? Not me.

I just realized sitting here doing my job that now I have time to write/edit my fanfics and while I have fics I need to edit and post (and stories I have to finish writing) I, like many OOO fans, have a different way I wanted the OOO movie to go that didn't make me lose faith in humanity and I may write a fic about it...or just post this who knows.
Anyways I thought it would be interesting if in his search to resurrect Ankh Eiji was the one who accidentally resurrected the old king and the other Greeed (also I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe Eiji, the guy that was implied to be better than the original King at being OOO would lose to the original King while they're both OOO adding that little girl wasn't the good idea the writer thought it was. Also why are the Greeed with the King for like zero reason did I miss something? I think they of all people would need a reason to team up with the King and play nice with him). This would be a better explanation for why Ankh was healed rather than "I wanted it enough as a dying wish" you mean to tell me Eiji never wanted Ankh back enough before that some random magic couldn't have done it then before he dies? I don't believe that, sorry.
Anyways the King steals the majority of the medals from Eiji and gets the other Greed to join him by promising them their medals if they cooperate leaving Eiji with a fixed core medal, the few other cores he was able to protect, and a bad wound from the King's surprise attack when he resurrected and stole the medals. Then he has to go find his friends at the resturant, get his injuries taken care of, and get some cell medals from Kougami (cause you KNOW that man has a secret stash of them) and then they go to stop the King's tyranny that he's spreading across Tokyo.
We learn later that the wound was worse than originally thought, except for Date who found it weird how after a nap and some stitches that the wound Eiji had was feeling well enough to continue fighting. Once Ankh is resurrected he gets in Eiji's face asking who he is and why is he wearing Eiji's face which Hina and the others try and pull him away until Date also questions it saying it should have been impossible for Eiji to just get up after getting back with that wound. Sure the adrenaline got him home in time to get medical attention but adrenaline doesn't last this long. Then we find out that Kougami made those new medals based on Eiji and Goda pulled an Ankh with a hurt Eiji.
Shingo and Ankh are conflicted about this because Shingo knows what that's like even though he likes Ankh he knows Ankh used to be different and this Goda character could be just like the old Ankh and Ankh fears the same. Ankh now realizes how Hina felt when she didn't know if her brother would ever get his body back from him. He's afraid of losing the person dearest to him. They decide to work with him in hopes he is more like Eijo than not since he's based on Eiji's desires but they're still keeping a close eye on him.
Cut to the Greeed coming together to discuss the predicament of basically being the King's tools again. The Greeed decide that they'll lure the King and OOO into a fight where they will attack the King when he and OOO are in mid-combat. Once they're plans in motion they don't realize two things 1) they're so caught up in their plan they don't realize Goda is controlling Eiji, they may feel somethings off but again they don't know Goda exists and 2) that Ankh is back as well, they think he needs Shingo like before and since they see him (Shingo) on the battlefield they think they have nothing to worry about.
Well as we all know their plan goes side ways cause Ankh is around. When they attack the King from behind they reach out to grab their flying medals only for Ankh to collect the majority of them and fly back to Goda who he still doesn't trust and he gives him some of the combos to beat the other Greeed and collects the remaining medals.
Then it goes on like the movie. Goda releases Eiji's body and steals the medals that he can from Ankh's medal holder, Ankh takes hold of him by becoming his arm form and controlling Eiji's body. He gets the power up, they beat Goda, and Eiji and Ankh have to stay as one for a little while while Eiji heals but eventually after a month or so of healing up we see Eiji and Ankh as two separate people deciding on what they should do next. Go on a few more adventures? Settle down for a bit and catch up with their friends? It doesnt matter, because after all, they have all the time in the world now.
...this was MUCH longer than I thought it was going to be but guys...I love OOO and it deserved better, my boys deserved better. 😤
I wrote this all pretty quick so please ignore any spelling or grammar mistakes. I'll probably fix them later...maybe...who knows.

Dreamwatch: SLEEPING GIANTS Press Conference (Match 8)
Tumblr media
Soji: Yo! I'm Soji Uzaki! Before I really speak to you all I wanted to get something out of the way. EIJI! I feel like when we first met face to face a couple shows ago we got off on the wrong foot! That's now how honest competitors should act, so I'm here with a gift for you my man.
Soji Uzaki walks off stage briefly before returning with a step stool. He raises it up to show the reporters and onlookers.
Soji Uzaki: I got you a step stool! I knew it would be the perfect gift for you! I can tell your height is the reason why you're so angry and you want to kill the Jr division so badly. I get it! I would be angry too if I had to rock a bad hairstyle to make myself look taller. The stool is portable too! Take it to the bar so your feet wont dangle when you sit down! I'm so thoughtful, really. You don't need to thank me, since I'm taking your belt anyway. I just figured you'd want to stand at my level when they take pictures of us. Anyway, you all know what the deal is with me and my boys by now. Asahina is gonna win, Katagiri is gonna win, and then I'm gonna cap it all off by saving you all from having to see EIJI's boring old title matches with that old man he drags around on a leash. I'm gonna get it done, ruin your dreams of killing the division, and shut Overkill's mouth for good.
EIJI: ...I'm gonna take a lot of pleasure in this one, I think. For so long now I've had this one goal: Hold this belt, and smother it until this "Jr division" dies. I've been holding back on my beatings to make sure I get my win and I keep the belt. This match is a little different. Katsu Himuro... He's one of the few people in the world I care about. He's got his vision for Dreamwatch, and apparently you and your boys are fuckin' it up. You walk in, cocky and insulting, losing the title my brother wanted, the face of the company he wants us to be at the top of, and then they put you in front of me. For Himuro, I think I'm gonna let loose a little bit. Uzaki, I'm gonna leave you in a pool of blood and tears out there. Seriously. I'll even paint the belt with it. I'll prove a point and show what we are. OVERKILL. IS. DREAMWATCH!

Fictober/Fantober2020 -
Day 23 - Angels And Demons
Tumblr media
Ash was dead, which was alright with him. He deserved death and had chosen to die. He wanted to free himself from all the pain and suffering, from his trauma and his nightmares. Death had taken all of that away. He had assumed he would set Eiji free as well. So everything should be over now. But somehow, it wasn't. When he came to, Ash was neither in heaven nor hell. Instead, he was standing at a beach in Izumo. At least that's what he was told. A strange voice echoed through his mind. 'Ash, your case is much more complex and complicated than that of most humans. You have only experienced pain, violence, and abuse in your short life, except for Eiji, who taught you friendship, comfort, compassion and love. To be honest, we weren't sure if you belonged in heaven or hell. You did some evil deeds, more than most humans, but you also led a much harsher life and suffered much more than most humans. So your case is unique. You look like a demon at times, but your soul is that of an angel, kind and good.' Ash wondered what he meant by that. He belonged in hell, wasn't that obvious? People even called him a demon or a devil. He was a mass murderer and a ruthless gang leader. The decision should be simple enough... 'Eiji's love towards you runs so strong and unconditional within him that it didn't stop with your death. He still loves you; his heart belongs to you forever. That's why he can't move on. He's still waiting for you to come back. Eiji is an angel with a kind heart and doesn't deserve his fate, either. Your case is special. So we decided to give you another chance. To change your fate. What would you do if you were given a second chance? A second life?' "Simple, I'd spend my life with Eiji. If he still wants me..." Look ahead. Don't you see him? Eiji was taking some photos at the beach and walked around barefoot in the sand. "Eiji! He's back and safe in Japan. That's a relief." Then Ash moved closer, scrutinizing his face. "Wait, this isn't Eiji. Why does he look so sad? He was supposed to be happy, to move on. Where's the light in his eyes I so loved? His eyes look so sad, and he forgot how to smile. This isn't what I wanted for Eiji. His eyes look dead, and his soul is suffering and in pain..." 'Ash, you were Eiji's light, his hope, his reason to live and smile. You were soulmates, but by choosing death, you broke your bond. Eiji suffers because of that. If you don't do something, he'll soon follow you. Soulmate's fates are also connected, and often the second one dies soon after the first one.' "No, I don't want that. What can I do?", Ash exclaimed in pure horror. "I didn't know we were bound like that. If I had known I'd hurt Eiji, I'd have never done that!" 'You have another chance to become human and save Eiji. Stay with him as a ghost or a noncorporeal entity. Try interacting with him. If he believes in you and can feel your presence or see you, you'll get another chance and become human again and can spend the rest of your life by Eiji's side.' "Where's the catch? There has to be one. It sounds too simple." 'You have three days. If Eiji hadn't believed in you by then, it's game over. Please remember that you're invisible, but if your bond is strong enough, he can see you eventually. But for that to happen, he has to know you're still with him. Good luck. If you succeed, you'll automatically turn into a human again and start a new life. ____________________ Ash stood at the beach and looked at Eiji. He hated the devastatingly sad look on his face, his pale skin, and his empty, emotionless eyes. He wanted Eiji to heal, but now the truth slowly sank in that Eiji wouldn't be happy without him. Ash had always loved Eiji, platonic friendship turning into romantic feelings over time. Yet, he hadn't realized that Eiji loved him as well, that their feelings were mutual. That's why he had firmly believed that Eiji would get over him with time and return to the life he had been used to in Izumo.
Even so, this Eiji standing in front of him wasn't what he had in mind. He hadn't realized that his death would destroy Eiji and would only leave an empty shell behind...
Ash looked at Eiji, sitting there at the beach and looking out to the sea. The loneliness he gave off was hurting more than any stab wound ever could. Ash clenched his hands and finally made a decision. He had to show Eiji he was there and set things right.
As if on cue, Eiji had turned his head and looked directly at the direction he was standing. That wasn't possible, right? He couldn't see him... or could he?
If you're dead, why does it always feel as if you're standing next to me? Sometimes I think I can feel your presence like now. Ash just stared at him. Could he really feel him?
He wrote a message into the sand right in front of Eiji. The sun was slowly setting, and they were alone on this beach by now.
I'm always with you. I'm sorry, Eiji. You were supposed to be happy after my death. I thought my death would set you free.
Eiji's eyes widened in pure disbelief as he stared at the words, then looked around in confusion.
"Ash?"
I'm here. I've missed you.
Tears streamed down Eiji's face while he sobbed, "I missed you, too." Then suspicion ran over Eiji's face. "How do I know you're Ash, and this isn't a sick prank?"
Ash smiled at that. Eiji had learned to be suspicious and wasn't that naive anymore. Good. Two sentences appeared in the sand.
You're not alone. My soul is always with you.
At first, Eiji covered his face with his hands and broke down crying. Yet, when he removed his hands, he managed to smile through his tears. Ash tried to put a hand on his shoulder, but, of course, it went through him. Still, Eiji reacted as if he had felt it and got calmer, wiping his tears away.
"Where are you, Ash? I can feel that you're here."
I'm standing directly in front of you.
Eiji reached out with his hand, and Ash reached for it with his until their palms touched. It felt like electric sparks flying around them. He saw in Eiji's surprised look that he had felt it, too.
If there was a chance you could see me again, what would you do?
"I'd do anything to see you again.", Eiji answered firmly without any hesitation.
Ash couldn't help but smile when hearing that.
I can only come back if you believe in me. In my existence here and now.
"I've always believed in you, Ash. I can feel your presence. But this time, it's stronger, so I know I don't imagine it. I just wish I could see your face again, those intense green eyes and your golden hair."
Then, even though Eiji couldn't see him, he hugged him. This was the moment where Ash could feel how his body turned solid, and he became visible. He was human again.
Pure astonishment ran over Eiji's face before the innocent and radiant smile dawned on Eiji's face, speaking his eyes sparkle with happiness. He held him more tightly and looked up at him.
"Ash, please tell me I'm not dreaming.", he said while tightening the grip around him.
Ash stroked the back of his head and pulled him closer.
"You're not dreaming. This time, I'll stay. If you still want me. Forever?", he asked while a hint of uncertainty resonated in his voice.
"Forever."

.. so i wanted to say that this vd will most likely be something like a break from kei and asahi's vds, but.. no, this is still a dark one.
yurika is such an interesting character to me honestly, because it's like.. sometimes i forget that she exists because of how "normal" she is compared to most prisoners, but when i actually start thinking about her and her crime.. wow, this girl is just as insane as everyone in this prison! maybe she's actually worse than some of them!
(warnings for mentions of stalking and implications of harassment)
(divider link)
(sounds of footsteps)
Eiji: .. Can you explain what happened earlier?
Miki: .. N-no, I don't think I can.
Eiji: Sure, maybe the kid was just being weird, but..
Eiji: What if you two really are-
Miki: We can't be related! It's simply not possible!
Eiji: But it makes sense, doesn't it? I have to judge my own brother, of course, they would make the second guard do the same.
Miki: But.. it's really not possible for me and Yano-san to be siblings..
Miki: Because, um.. he said that I have the same eyes as his "real" mother, right?
Miki: My eye color is the same as my mother's, but she just.. can't be Yano-san's mother.
Eiji: Why though?
Miki: W-well..
Miki: I.. I did have a younger brother and he had disappeared a long time ago, but if Yano-san really is my lost brother..
Miki: .. I feel sorry for him.
Eiji: Was your mother.. also a bad person?
Miki: I can't say she was a perfect mother, but that's not the only reason.
Miki: .. My mother died right after giving birth to my younger brother.
Miki: And that means.. Yano-san would never be able to meet her.
Miki: So if we really are related, it means that Yano-san doesn't even know what his real mother looks like! If he actually remembers me, he's probably just assuming his real mother looked just like his older sister!
Eiji: ...
Eiji: I don't know if I should say that I'm sorry for your loss, considering that she wasn't the "perfect mother".
Eiji: That can mean anything from "she had her flaws, but she still was a good person" to "she was the most heartless person you could ever imagine". And knowing you and how much you like to forgive people no matter what they do, it's probably the latter.
Miki: Even if she wasn't the best mother, I'm definitely the worst older sister.
Miki: I just won't be able to look Yano-san in the eyes after this.
Eiji: The fact that you still care about him shows that you're not as bad as you think.
Eiji: Okay, it's time to interrogate the eighth prisoner. Are you ready?
Eiji: If you're not feeling well, you can take a break.
Miki: .. Eiji-san, why are you so nice to me?
Eiji: Because even though I don't agree with what you say most of the time, you've showed me more support than anyone else ever did.
Eiji: It's only natural for me to do the same.
Miki: ...
Miki: I'm going with you.
Eiji: Glad to hear that.
(door opens)
Eiji: Hello, Prisoner 008.
Yurika: Ah, h-hello!
Yurika: Um, did I do something bad? You're not going to do anything scary to me, right?
Eiji: We're just interrogating everyone. But we might do something scary to you if you make us.
Eiji: So I hope you cooperate~
Yurika: Oh, okay, sure..
Eiji: "She's surprisingly easier to talk to than all the other prisoners."
Eiji: "I don't know if I should be happy about it though. That makes her so boring.."
Eiji: So, Prisoner 008, Maruyama Yurika. 21 years old, a university student and..
Eiji: .. A maid cafe worker?
Yurika: Haha, yeah, that's me!..
Yurika: God, it sounds so cringe when you say it.
Miki: Wait, you worked in a maid cafe, Maruyama-san?
Yurika: Yes, I was a waitress, so.. I was one of the maids, basically.
Miki: That sounds so fun! I'd love to see you in your uniform-
Miki: T-that sounded weird, didn't it?..
Yurika: Ah, don't worry, I'm used to it.
Yurika: Also, I mean, you can't be worse than.. uh, Kei-san.
Eiji: I remember him mentioning that you two don't get along. Is that true?
Yurika: Well, to be honest.. I don't like him that much. He reminds me of some customers I had to deal with in the past.
Yurika: Also, he has that "a character who flirts so often that it's actually creepy and not attractive, but fans forgive him anyway because he's so cute or at least that's what they think" vibe.
Yurika: .. Sorry about that.
Eiji: Did he do anything to you? You can always tell us in case something happens.
Eiji: "More reasons for me to punish him, yay!"
Yurika: No, thankfully. But sometimes I really wish he could just.. shut up or even forget about the fact that I exist.
Eiji: Listen, if I see any of you fighting, of course I will punish you for your behavior, but.. you really should fight back if he tries to hurt you. You have my full permission to do that.
Yurika: Ah, thank you, but I don't think Kei-san will try to do anything bad to me. He's scared of me, actually.
Miki: .. Scared? Kei-san thinks you're scary?
Yurika: I don't know, one day I just got really angry at him and I guess I looked at him in a certain way and after that..
Yurika: I can still hear him talking about my looks when he's with the other prisoners, but when he actually sees me, he just runs away.
Eiji: .. So you're saying that you're the only prisoner who Kei actually finds scary, haha..
Miki: Eiji-san, are you okay?
Miki: Your face is getting red again-
Eiji: A-anyway, about your crime.
Eiji: I wonder what kind of crime someone like you could commit. I bet that you're either the most dangerous prisoner here and you're just good at hiding it.. or you were just so stupid that you ended up accidentally killing someone.
Miki: I want to believe that Maruyama-san's crime was an accident. She just doesn't look like that type of person who could plan a murder and do it all on purpose.
Yurika: M-my crime..
Yurika: I.. had to do it.
Yurika: It was self-defense, I swear! I would never kill someone just for fun or anything like that!
Yurika: I had no other choice! It was either me or..
Eiji: Wait, wait, hold on. Can't you just explain what happened?
Yurika: .. You don't believe me?
Yurika: Am I that suspicious?
Eiji: You're a Milgram prisoner, of course you're suspicious.
Miki: Maruyama-san, if you tell us why you had to commit your crime, maybe we'll be able to forgive you!
Eiji: Maybe.
Yurika: .. Fine.
Yurika: So, uh.. I did mention those customers that Kei-san reminds me of, right?
Yurika: You see, considering my job and how popular I was, of course, a lot of people would end up loving me a bit.. too much.
Eiji: I think I know where this is going.
Yurika: So.. Yeah, I had to deal with stalkers before.
Yurika: And I couldn't ask anyone for help because "Hey, you're still alive, so it means they're not dangerous"!
Yurika: Haha.. I wonder if they would say the same thing after seeing my corpse.
Yurika: And if they weren't stalkers, then they simply were.. too affectionate.
Yurika: Thankfully, my boss was always there to protect me. She was so nice to me..
Miki: Were you close with your boss?
Yurika: I want to believe I was. She always knew what to say to make me feel better and she was the only person I could actually be honest with.
Yurika: Ah, Eiko-san reminds me of her a lot! They have very similar personalities.
Eiji: .. So, are you trying to say that your victim also was your stalker?
Eiji: Or maybe they were one of those "affectionate" customers?
Yurika: Well, actually, I wouldn't say that they were my stalkers..
Yurika: But they knew a bit too much about me. And I didn't want them to know even more.
Yurika: I just wanted them to respect my privacy, that's all!
Miki: .. Stalkers?
Miki: Maruyama-san, are you trying to say that you've actually killed not just one, but multiple people?
Yurika: ...
Eiji: Oh, now this is getting interesting.
Eiji: Maybe you're not as innocent as you're trying to seem, Yu-
Yurika: Hey, I'm not sure what to call you, so I'll just go with Guard 002-san, is that okay?
Miki: Y-yeah, sure..
Yurika: Thank you. So, Guard 002-san..
Yurika: Don't you think that I was the real victim?
Yurika: Even if I did have multiple victims, so what? Think about everything I've told you. Can you imagine how hard it was for me? Don't you think people like that are so horrible that.. they actually deserve to die?
Miki: ...
Yurika: It's not fair. Everyone was so cruel to me, even my own parents who literally kicked me out and my coworkers only pretended to be my friends, but they actually didn't care about me at all.
Yurika: *starts crying* Nobody understands me! Even you don't understand me, even though you try so hard to make it seem like you're the "good" guard!
Miki: But I-
Yurika: Oh, look at her, she's so nice! She's so special, she's so much better than that other guard! She actually wants to save us and help us leave this place!
Yurika: But I bet you wouldn't even try to help me if you knew what I had to go through! You would say the same exact thing.
Yurika: "If you're still alive, it means things aren't as bad as you think".
Yurika: I didn't know that you were that type of person who likes to blame the victim-
(Eiji slaps Yurika)
Yurika: ...
Yurika: What?..
Eiji: So you're actually just like all the other prisoners.
Eiji: Hehe.. you're not as boring as I thought you are.
Eiji: Look, I agree that dealing with stalkers sounds.. bad.
Eiji: But it doesn't mean that you automatically get an excuse for every single thing you do if you had a tragic past.
Eiji: And you better be grateful to the second guard for trying to help you, because she is the kindest person in this whole prison and I have no idea how she manages to see good in everyone, but I'm honored to work with her.
Miki: !
Miki: Eiji-san..
Yurika: .. Haha..
Yurika: But Guard-san.. Do you really think that you being a guard is a good excuse for treating me like this?
Eiji: I told you that we might do something scary to you. Trust me, this is nothing compared to the punishments I came up with for other prisoners in case they get voted guilty-
Eiji: No, they're definitely getting voted guilty.
(bell rings, machinery sounds)
Eiji: Oh, time's up.
Eiji: Well, let's see how truly innocent you are.
Eiji: And if your video shows that you actually were fine and you made up this whole story to make us feel sorry for you..
Eiji: I will never forgive you.
Yurika: .. I just thought that I deserve better than this.
Yurika: No, I do deserve better than this! I want to go back to the life I had before all of this happened!
Miki: By "this" do you mean the fact that you're in Milgram now?..
Yurika: No. Though obviously I'm not happy about being a prisoner.
Yurika: I just.. I want to go back to those simpler times.
Yurika: I wish I didn't have to grow up.
Eiji: Prisoner 008, Yurika, sing your sins!

My (current) thoughts on the Banana Fish ending
SPOILERS!! (...duh)
I think I should start with mentioning that I neither hate nor love the ending. I know people like to get their pitchforks out over it, but I'm not that kind of person. I can relate to the viewpoints of people who hate the ending, and I can relate to the viewpoints of people who agree with the ending. And I don't think that there's a 'right' opinion about it.
When I watched the final episode on the night it aired (besides the initial denial, shock and tears) I actually thought the ending fitted the show. Banana Fish is not an optimistic show; it delves into topics that most anime are terrified of touching with a ten-foot pole. I read it as bittersweet ending, if you will - a juxtaposition between freedom and hopelessness, and peace and death. For a show that is not particularly light-handed with Death's scythe, it made sense just a little that things wouldn't all work out for the best in the end...
Tumblr media
But I couldn't stop thinking of the 'what if's, so I got to thinking about what the best alternative ending would have been.
Would the best ending have been Ash going to the airport and flying to Japan with Eiji? To me, this seems logically unlikely. Stabbed or not, there is no way that Ash is making it through airport security without a passport (try it, trust me, it won't work). After that, how would he be able to get a visa to live in Japan? As Ash Lynx, he is a ruthless gang leader, and as Aslan Callenreese, he is a convicted murderer (the prison mugshot at the end of episode 2 shows his real name). Not exactly a stellar record on the surface. Saying that, I don't think it would have been impossible for Ash to go to Japan, it just couldn't have happened in the way that the anime framed it. It would have required planning, possible forging a whole new identity. It certainly couldn't have been a spur-of-the-moment decision upon seeing the plane tickets in Eiji's letter. In a sense, Ash was quite naive to run to the airport after seeing the plane tickets. It wouldn't have worked out.
It would, however, be plausible for him to go to hospital to at the very least NOT DIE. Now, I don't know much about cities given that I am a bit of a country bumpkin myself, but something (it might be common sense) tells me that a gunshot near a large public building would not go unnoticed. And there is no way in hell Ash could have realistically managed to make his way through the library without at least one person noticing the injury, blood or hunched walk. It is here that I think an alternative ending is plausible - albeit not the ideal and romanticised one. Ash could have received medical help and at least lived to appreciate how much he still has to live for.
Tumblr media
It's upon realising this that I started to have some doubts about how much I agreed with the ending where Ash dies. The anime also leaves the story more open ended, allowing room for people to form their own opinions on how Ash's story goes. One theory I quite like - based off the second opening - is that Ash got up again to seek medical help. In the opening, he is shown walking through the streets at night clutching his stomach - an interesting choice of scene given that he was stabbed during the day and lost consciousness at dusk in the library. I don't know if I truly believe this theory or not, but it's a nice thought (gotta say though, it gives me flashbacks to No.6 where I overanalysed the ED...).
On a separate topic, I know that the ending is criticised to two parts: for sending out a negative message to victims like Ash, and for falling into the 'bury your gays' trope. In all honesty, these points didn't occur to me when I watched the ending for the first time, as that wasn't the vibe I personally got, but seeing people bring these up since has made me question my perception of the ending. I don't have a definitive viewpoint on this, but I do wonder what influenced Yoshida to end the series this way in hindsight. I haven't seen the interviews she has done - has she mentioned anything about why she chose to kill Ash? And did the portrayal of homosexuality in American media at the time have an effect?
Tumblr media
So maybe over time my opinion has swayed away from liking the ending from a storytelling perspective to sort of agreeing with it, but recognising its flaws and alternative solutions. I still lean more towards the 'canon' ending, but maybe less so than I used to. I know this is a kinda boring conclusion to draw because I'm basically saying I'm on the fence. But there is one word that has stuck with me since I first watched the final episode... and I think it sums up the ending pretty well, regardless of how you feel about it...
Haunting.
The ending haunts you - you don't simply finish the final episode and never think about the show again. Instead, you cannot resist replaying it again and again in your mind, contemplating why and how and what if. The characters and story are unforgettable and make sure to leave their imprint on you even after the story concludes.
And that, to me, is a testimony to how powerful this show is.
Tumblr media
(Note: There is so much more I could talk about with the ending to Banana Fish, and this certainly won't be my only post about it. If anyone would like to offer their thoughts I would love to chat about your opinions on the ending too!)

A Simple Theory || Rika || Trial 1.3 || Re: Koharu, Kaz, Eiji || Attn: Koharu
The last nail in the coffin? Sorry, Koharu, but if there's one thing Rika is, it's annoyingly stubborn. She doesn't give up easily once she has an idea in mind and after listening to what everyone else said, particularly Eiji, an entirely knew theory entered her mind.
It had been something she'd already had in mind and been wondering about, but now that Eiji had debunked Kaz's autopsy, her idea was beginning to grow more and more likely, at least within her own stubborn mind.
Tumblr media
"This whole time, haven't we just been assuming that there's only one person involved? Like...only one person stabbed Yuuna and that same person broke her neck. But like...why would someone even bother to do both of those things? If they tried to stab her first, why not finish her off that way? Or why not just start by breaking her neck? The killer clearly had Yuuna's cooperation. The fact that Jiji is saying Yuuna was stabbed before she died is starting to make me think something else..."
She paused for dramatic effect, you know, just to get everyone extra invested in what she was saying.
"What if there are two people involved here? Like...what if someone went and stabbed Yuuna and they thought they managed to kill her or something? So then they left, but someone else came in and realized what happened, so that person finished Yuuna off by breaking her neck. That other person could've even given Yuuna the opportunity to write her notes to everyone. This theory also explains the painkillers, because if someone thought they killed Yuuna and then left, then maybe when Yuuna regained consciousness she went and took some painkillers to help with the pain? Well? How does my theory sound so far?"
She stopped and she looked towards the one person in the room she suspected the most. Granted, it could've been anyone in the room, but Rika had her own brilliant idea in mind.
Tumblr media
"So Koharu, you want us to believe your innocence, so explain to us why you have a completely empty weapon's case in your room. Like, what's up with that? Oh, but maybe just maybe you were planning on killing Yuuna with one of those, but when you went to attack her she suggested you use a kitchen knife instead because it couldn't be traced back to you? Of course I don't think you killed Yuuna, since you failed, but I do think you attacked her first. Well, go ahead and prove me wrong."
There! The case: cracked. Please dear god someone stop her from being any stupider.

hi! i hope you're doing great and drinking enough water. could you do angst prompt #19 or #15 for asheiji? sorry hehe, but thank you so much!
19. “Why did you wait until I moved on?”
15. “What gives you the right to just waltz back into my life after all the pain you’ve caused.”
hi! I'm SO sorry this took thirteen million years. I really struggled with finding a way to incorporate these two lines into an asheiji fic that still felt in character to me, and also was still drabble-ish length. (This ended up being oneshot-ish length anyway, but honestly I just ... don't want to put it on ao3? I think it fits better with my drabbles here.) I hope this is okay despite everything!
Ash faked his own death.
It was a difficult decision to make, that's for sure. And honestly ... he really did nearly die that day, bleeding out in the Rose Reading Room of the New York Public Library.
He nearly wanted to die.
But he made it. He made it, and he made it out.
And he spent the next six months trying to make sure that no one found out that he did.
He knew that if he told anyone, anyone at all, that they would tell Eiji. There was ... no one he could trust in this, really. Because Eiji finding out? That couldn't happen. Ash couldn't let that happen.
For Eiji's sake.
It's been ... lonely.
But Ash is used to loneliness, in a way. In other ways, he's been about as far from lonely as it gets. But this kind of isolation? These emotional walls, this solitude? He's fine with it. It's how he should be. And that's okay.
Until six months after that faked death, when he really just can't take it anymore.
And he boards a plane to Japan.
— — —
"I never believed that you died," is the first thing that Eiji says.
Which is ... not what Ash was expecting.
"You knew?" Ash asks, incredulous. He covered all his bases, didn't he? Cleaned up all the loose ends? Eiji stares at him, and Ash can't read his emotions. He's not crying, and his voice is calm, but there's an edge to it. A hardness in his eyes. Eiji's always been an open book—and Ash would like to think that he understands Eiji better than most. But here, Ash is ... confused.
"It happened before, no?" Eiji replies. "This is not the first time that you have 'died' and left me. But it is the first time that you stayed away for so long."
"I ..." Ash isn't even sure where to begin.
"So why now?" Eiji asks. He huffs, crossing his legs on the couch. Ash tracked down Max through his newspaper articles, and he gave Ash the address to Eiji's tiny Tokyo apartment.
"What do you mean?" Ash asks. "I couldn't stay away from you. I couldn't bring myself to." He clears his throat, shifting uncomfortably. "You understand that, right?"
Eiji closes his eyes for a moment. When he reopens them, he asks, "Why did you wait until I moved on?"
Ash's heart stops. "M-moved on?" Is there someone else? Not that they were ever technically together or anything, and it's not like Ash ever deserved Eiji anyway. So it's fine, really. But ... moved on?
But Eiji shakes his head. "Not in the way that you think. I moved on in that ... Ash, I finally accepted that—alive or not—you would not return to me."
"But I'm here now," Ash tries, heart sinking. "I'm here now, and I want ..." what? What does he want? Fuck.
"What gives you the right to just waltz back into my life after all the pain you've caused?"
Oh. That look in Eiji's eyes—that edge to his voice.
It's anger.
Anger, and pain.
"I know I've hurt you," Ash whispers. "I know I've done a hundred things wrong, and hurt you a thousand ways, and I'm sorry. That's why I stayed away—to try to stop that from happening again. And if that's what you want—"
"You do not understand," Eiji says shortly. He quickly stands and turns on Ash, walking the short distance to his small kitchen. "You never do."
"I'm trying to!" Ash insists. He hesitates; should he follow? He stands up, but pauses awkwardly without stepping toward Eiji. "What don't I understand?"
"You don't understand what you have done that hurts me." At his kitchen counter now, Eiji spins back around to face Ash, resting his weight on the counter behind him with both of his hands. "You have never understood that you leaving hurts far more than anything that has ever happened when we are together."
Ash's brain short circuits, struggling to keep up with Eiji. These accusations seem ... different than anything Ash could have prepared himself for. "But I—I've done so much wrong—I thought that it was only right for me to stay away from now on. And if—"
"Ash!" Eiji all but yells. His knuckles are white with his grip on the edge of the counter. "I want you to stay!" He shakes his head, and a sob escapes as he does. "Please, Ash. Listen to me. Stay."
"I ..." Ash does step toward him now, eyes wide. "I will, if you think that I should? If you really, truly ..."
"It's all I want," Eiji confirms. "But Ash, you—" He laughs, or maybe sobs again—Ash isn't quite sure how to tell the difference right now. "You can't keep doing this."
"Doing what?" Ash asks. He tries for another hesitant step forward, heart in his throat. "I'll—I'll do anything, Eiji, or stop anything—"
"Stop leaving," Eiji says, looking up at Ash with a thousand emotions in his eyes. "Stop leaving, and start wanting to stay."
"I do want to stay." A whisper. "I'm just afraid to hurt you."
"Then never leave my side, Ash. Because that hurts worst of all." Eiji smiles, but his eyes are still sad. "Do you want to hug me?"
"Yeah," Ash admits. "If it's okay."
Eiji crosses the distance between them, and Ash throws himself into his arms.
"Fuck, Eiji, I'm sorry! It's so hard for me to—understand—"
"Then we'll work on that, Ash. Love," Eiji murmurs. "Because I trust that you do not want to hurt me. I do not want to hurt you, and—"
"You would never!" Ash says quickly. "You've never hurt me, and you never could hurt me, and—"
"Ash," Eiji chides softly. "It is okay. I understand what you mean, but I wish that you did not have so much ... I don't know." He sighs. "I love that you have such faith in me, but I am afraid that you idolize me a bit. And it makes me afraid that if—when—I do make a mistake, it will hurt you far worse than it would have otherwise."
"... Oh," Ash breathes. He hadn't thought about it that way. "I'm sorry."
"Something else to work on," Eiji says gently. He rubs circles into Ash's shoulders. "To work on together."
"Yeah," Ash whispers. "Together. I like that."
"Then let's do it." Eiji pulls back, and brushes a bit of Ash's hair behind his ear. "Okay?"
Nodding, Ash swallows. He looks down. "I love you."
"I love you too. And—"
"This'll be hard," Ash blurts. "Loving me, and—staying with me, and—"
"Ash," Eiji says. His voice is soft. "We've been through a lot, and the future—together or apart—will be hard for both of us. But we will have each other, and we will be okay."
"... Okay."
"Can you trust me on that?"
And fuck, Ash could trust Eiji with anything. With his life, with his soul, with his heart. He does trust Eiji, with everything he is. And he wants Eiji to know that. But instead, he just nods, and says again, "I love you."
"I love you too."
"Kiss me?" Ash asks. His eyes widen a little as he registers what he said, but he doesn't go back on it. "Uh—properly, this time. The way a kiss should be." Because he trusts Eiji to know what a kiss should be like. To show him what a kiss should be like.
"That's what you want?" Eiji asks. He reaches up with a hand and brushes his finger along Ash's lower lip. Ash nearly shivers at the contact.
"Please," he whispers.
So they kiss, and—shit. Fuck.
If Eiji feels a fraction of what Ash feels right now, then maybe they can make this work, after all. Maybe Ash doesn't have to leave.

Riders react to the ballad version of Anything Goes
---
Kadoya: Oi, OOO
Kadoya: Where do you get off making other people cry with your theme song?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZWGfY70pSU
Eiji: Why? Did it make you cry?
Kadoya: Of course not.
Kadoya: You did die in another universe.
Gentaro: senpai died?
Ryusei: Onore dikeido!
Ryusei: Now look what you've done!
Eiji: I'm not dead, Gentaro-kun.
Eiji: You can still feel me holding you, right?
Gentaro: *nods*
Eiji: No matter what any dimension hoppers have to say, remember that I'm still here, okay?
Eiji: *looks at Kadoya* Could you not mention me dying whenever you're here?
Eiji: I know you told me what happened to me in that universe.
Eiji: I'd appreciate it Ankh or the others wouldn't know about that.
Eiji: I don't think my ass can handle what Ankh would do once he gets wind of this.
Now why you gotta go and remind us this movie exists... Seriously though, what is it with Kamen Rider and offing Riders these past couple of years? Tsukasa, Eiji, Vice... And it's not like they're gonna stick to their guns about it either.
I suppose they'd feel melancholic about it? I mean, out of context it kinda sounds like a hopeful song, even with the more dramatic melody. It's really the context that it's used in that makes it really sad.
