Okokokok I need some help understanding something and you’re a writer so I trust your judgement. I keep trying except I’m just making myself more upset. I just want to start enjoying the new story with everyone like normal
In a story, how do you take revenge against something/someone with plot amor?
I feel like the revenge>failure>anger>revenge cycle would get a bit repetitive right?
I’m just trying to think of this in term of story and character development and I’m failing to grasp how this will work in a way that’s productive
I think that the events over the past few weeks or so are meant to show that the Federation doesn't have as much plot armor as you think it does. Because it's spread so fucking thin right now between the kidnapping of Ron and the murders and the dark matter and the Mini-Mes getting taken and the eggs and the president going missing. They don't know what's going on and the workers are scared and in hiding and literally only Foolish is chill right now, and that's because he's become such a good spy that even the "higher ups" love him. He's currently in the process of doing what Cellbit spent months trying to do, and he's going to succeed.
But this isn't about the Federation, it's about Cucurucho, aka the thing Cellbit really wants to destroy even if he's telling everyone , who was apparently proven to not even be a part of the Federation at all today! Apparently, the Census Bureau isn't a Federation employee like. At All.
So this begs the question: how do you kill a God?
The answer is that... well, you don't. Not when you're Cellbit, and that's exactly the point of what he's doing now. He's not going after Cucurucho specifically for a reason: he knows he can't win. Which is why he's going after the regular workers first. That way, he can start dismantling the Federation from the outside as others dismantle it from the inside (he knows about Fit being a spy, and he technically knows about Foolish even if he doesn't believe him all the way.)
We all think the Federation has plot armor, but it really doesn't! All things considered, the islanders have won against it several times! Between the eggs basically going rogue and breaking whatever programming they were under as Federation creations to get attached to their parents, ElQuackity the Federation Plant losing the election due to islanders' interference, Cellbit keeping the Federation from killing him by killing himself, the Mini-Mes being stolen, Pac and Mike escaping prison, Felps and Cellbit escaping their prison, Baghera escaping the island in the first place, the islanders becoming friends with several workers to the point of said workers defecting from the Federation, Forever and Pac being freed from the influence of the Happy Pills, and literally everything Fit and Foolish have managed to do while undercover, we've seen the Federation lose, and I think we forget about all of this because, well. It is Torture Island.
The plot armor here isn't necessarily the Federation's. It's Cucurucho's, and it's Cellbit's real target. But he knows he can't do anything to it yet, and so he's going for everything around it, and then, when he's strong enough or whatever, he's going to go for Cucurucho itself, and he's made it bleed before, actually, way back during the first Hide and Seek game day. He's just waiting for another opportunity, and he's waiting very patiently. (LOL)
It looks hopeless now, but this is legitimately day one of the arc. It's no use doomposting or anything when we haven't seen who's gonna help Cellbit out, because we know that some of the strongest people on the island possibly would. Like Etoiles, who legit doesn't give a fuck about killing Federation workers because he did quite literally kill like 20 in ten minutes or so, EZ. And Roier, who is genuinely one of the strongest non-Etoiles pvpers on the island. And Maxo, who has a literal nuclear bomb.
My advice as a writer? Just chill and don't think about it too much. I can see how awesome this arc is going to be because Cellbit is an EXCELLENT storyteller. It's not worth worrying about when we don't even know all the factors in play yet.

So if Byler does become canon, how do you think they’ll pull it off, based off what you’ve seen? I feel like El will have to move on from Mike first, or end the relationship, or else it will just make Mike seem like even more of an ass for not returning her feelings after all of this. I see no other explanation for Mikes behavior other than repressed homosexuality and projection, but I still have zero clue how they’ll pull it off. maybe all of this is just building up to one big love confession from Mike to El. I have no idea what to think rn.
I think things are in motion for Mike and El to break up, but it's still ambiguous enough that it could go either way.
Mike still can't tell El he loves her, and El has noticed. El seems to be realizing that he isn't the one who can love her the way she wants. However, they could still pull a big "character development" moment where Mike realizes he loves her and becomes exactly what El needs.
However, they also made Mike's behavior with Will odd from the start. The aborted hug at the airport was very different from their goodbye in season 3 where they were clinging to each other. Him ignoring Will most of the first day was odd, too. He seemed to be putting deliberate space between them. Then we find out that Mike hadn't written Will at all, simply calling a few times. That really has me thinking that Mike did write, but never mailed the letters.
With how much Will's character seems to be getting pushed away from the actual plot, there's legit nothing left for him but his sexuality. That's horrible enough as it is, especially going into Pride month. Even his report on Alan Turing, which we didn't even get to see, hasn't come into play at all. So far, it simply seems to be a Genius Bonus for people who know Turing was, essentially, a gay nerd.
God, Will was so happy he cried anytime Mike actually treated him well. That sounds sweet, but it's actually pretty sad. They've made Will so one-dimensional that all that there is for him is Mike. They were touching moments, and it was because Mike was being honest, but the kid deserves to have more to him than just Mike.
It better be leading to something.
And if it isn't...
Well...

Ah yes I totally want to see everyone get vecna’d and survive. Not just cuz i want everyone to live but as a writing point their survival plays a major role in all of their developments and the story in general. For this I saw some posts that showed how some people (which was like the majority of the major cast) had a scene with a clock near them/in the shot with them. Idk who posted it but I remember seeing that! Also yes you are so right!! Steve viewing his role as just a protector and nothing more is something I want to see addressed. Especially considering that it doesn’t seem like he expects the other characters to have the same concerns/worries/ feelings of friendship towards him. Like maybe just Robin and Dustin but he also doesn’t fully expect that. Like how steve was surprised that Dustin worshipped him and thought of him so highly and surprised that he got a letter from max. And when he jumped into the lake to see the gate (which I love him but why did he touch the gate? That was so stupid of him said of course with affection lol) he legit said the line ‘it has to be me’. Like i just want him to have love and realize that people around him care besides just him just being the protector. Kind of like how I want El to realize that people see her more than just her powers but that’s another rant lol. When they’re in the school and he says ‘stay here’ legit everyone followed out of concern and everyone keeps following him in dangerous situations. And they trust him so much! And he just doesn’t see it like please ughh!! As you can tell I have many emotions about this.
Also I seriously want all of the characters to explore their trauma based on what had happened before. Also considering the fact that they can’t even talk about it either because they’re that traumatized or government issues. Which something that I appreciated was Eddie’s line of ‘you Nancy wheeler have guns in your bedroom plural?’ And the delivery of this line and his expressions. Joseph was so good in this role and delivered. Like even though he knows somewhat about this stuff he also never saw them in action until they were up against the bats. So like it was this most eye opening thing to him. Also I love how Eddie called Dustin brave in the first ep. Like how many people have actually called them that? Especially considering Eddie at that point had no idea about the ud and how brave Dustin/ these people actually are. I made a post about this but so many people and I have speculated that lucas gets vecna’d and if he does I really want them to go back to him seeing Will’s body being pulled out of the lake or in the middle school with el and being legit held back by government people. In season 2 they mainly focus on Mike’s trauma surrounding it and don’t really address the fact that Lucas and Dustin also saw that. And god I want it to be addressed so fucking badly! Like we all know that el and Will survived this but the fact that (I forgot their age in season 1) 11-13 year olds had to see that must have been so devastating and traumatizing!!
I think at this point it's like a reflex for the others to trust steve (and each other). but looking at it like steve and the older teens play this like protector role (like them going into the upside while most of the kids stay in their world and head to the creel house.) and how in the trailer we see eddie and dustin together, and I am almost positive that eddie will do whatever to protect dustin while there in there. the kids are like the brain, the teens the muscle.
I really want lucas and dustin to kind of take a step back and reel from all the shit they've been through. mike too but I feel like his trauma has been explored a little already and may be explored again (especially concerning el and will and the role they'll play in vol.2). but lucas and dustin have been there since the very start and they've seen some shit lol. basically, I want everyone to address 1983 and how it all changed them so drastically (something something UD stuck on the day will went missing and all that good stuff). I just want them to go back! and see how far they've come, but in a way that's kind of devastating and makes you really think for a second, you know?

Oop, it’s Thursday. Let’s see what this week’s episode of CBS Ghosts is like. Now, this is something I can get excited about: “D&D”
- Oh, hey, we open in 1777! We watch Isaac unveil something that legit surprised me: he’s introducing a musket with a skyglass attached. He’s calling it an “Eyesaac.” I didn’t expect him to have invented a sniper rifle.
aaaaand he’s using it to spy on a British officer shaving in his shirt.
Aaaand there’s a silence while his troops find it awkward. I feel like this moment could have been done better or more subtly.
- Technically, we didn’t see Isaac’s death there, but we DID see his attitude that led to his death: he scoffs at the idea of regular handwashing to keep away dysentery.
- Jay is trying to play D&D over video chat with the rest of his party, who live in NYC. However, his internet connection is really bad and his friends are moving on without him, both in game and IRL. They even want to kill Jay’s character to fill in his role with the new friend of their group! JEEZ. No wonder Jay’s an ass sometimes when he’s got friends like that.
- WOAH! REDCOATS! IN THE SHED! INCLUDING THE ONE THAT ISAAC WAS SPYING ON!
Now THIS is interesting. These British soldiers from the American Revolution mostly stick in the shed among themselves and only visit the house once a year with complaints.
- Jay’s D&D character is called “Hitch.” Pete (who LOVED D&D when he was alive) had a character named Gelvin Monkspear.
- Awww, Jay’s actually really hyped to play with Pete and vice versa! But Sam is being really uncool about it. As we learn later, she really doesn’t like D&D.
- .... Jay, stop GUILTING HER! JUST ASK! FUCK!
Ok, an explanation for that note. Once Sam starts hinting that she doesn’t want to help them play DnD, Jay IMMEDIATELY starts passive-aggressively guilting her about how his friends don’t want to play with him, and how he’s so lonely, and how she has so many ghost friends. And it’s CLEARLY passive-aggressive guilt tripping. This can’t be confused for anything else. Which just makes me mad at Jay for not negotiating or asking out right like a goddamn adult.
Man, I miss Mike.
- The lead redcoat and the soldier that Isaac has a crush on is named Lieutenant Colonel Nigel Chessum.
- .... HIGGINTOOT?! Isaac’s last name is freaking Higgintoot? ... did I know this already?
- Aww, Isaac and Nigel BOTH have a crush on each other. That’s kinda cute! Their flirting is actually sweet. It’s not super clever, but there’s nice music behind it and everything. I actually want to see this develop.
- Sasappis and Alberta join Pete’s party. (Pete’s new character is Gelvin Monkspear II)
- Jay doesn’t know that D&D games happen over several sessions? This is your husband’s hobby, Sam, and it’s clear that he plays regularly. I guess she could have assumed that every session was just one game, but even so, that means she really didn’t pay attention to any of it.
- OK, Isaac says he has a secret he’s been keeping from Nigel all these years and that while saying it will release an immense burden, he feels it’ll hurt Nigel’s feelings. I wonder what it could be...
- Aw, after playing with him, Jay feels Pete is great! (They also bond over 80s basketball) Jay wants to play with Pete a few times per week now. It’s nice to see him learn about certain ghosts’ personalities and form friendships with them.
- WOAH SAM. YOU’RE SAYING THAT THE GHOSTS DON’T WANT TO PLAY IN FRONT OF PETE. PETE!!!! SAM, STOP FUCKING LYING!
Sorry, I felt I should preserve the caps lock of my original note. Once Jay says that he’d like to play with Pete and the other ghosts a few times a week, Sam decides to straight up lie. And in front of Pete, no less, who is in the room. She says that the ghosts decided that they didn’t like playing D&D, so Jay should just pack it up for good.
This was really confusing to me. I know that Sam has to learn a sitcom lesson at the end, but she typically wants to help the ghosts all the time... until now?! I guess she doesn’t like D&D that much. But even so, I think it’d be more in character for Sam to at least try to limit the D&D sessions first, not lie outright and make the ghosts super sad.
.... also she’s lying to her husband. Which isn’t good.
- .... and Isaac’s secret to Nigel is that he killed him. (Accidentally; Isaac sneezed while spying on Nigel through his Eyesaac rifle) Of course, Nigel didn’t expect the honest news to be THIS, and storms out. (I think Nigel is more honest about his feelings with himself than Isaac is.)
- Yes! We have a return of writing in mirror steam. (I always liked the idea of this ever since it popped up in the BBC show) And it actually works! “SHE LIED”
- Finally, Sam admits that she really didn’t like playing D&D. And Jay admits that he liked playing with the ghosts because it made him feel like part of the gang, even though he can’t see or hear them. I’m glad to hear them say these things, but I hate why they had to say it.
- Heh. The ghosts’ battling each other is essentially a slap fight. That’s really funny.
- It just occurred to me. Nigel was shot in the chest, but there’s no visible wound like with Thomas. Or if there is, his ruffly shirt hides it well.
- At first, Pete proposes that the redcoats and the house ghosts fight using D&D as a medium. Jay says, “I am happy to resolve all ghost conflicts this way.” And honestly, it’s a really fun idea!
.... too bad it’s abandoned after a MINUTE. Nigel and Isaac immediately think that the game is boring.
- One of the redcoats (I can’t remember which one was specified) chose to play a Tielfing bard.
- Awww, now Isaac and Nigel are flirting again after Isaac honestly apologizes.
- OK, I just have to say that I love how Nigel makes his redcoat fifer Baxter play him out when he leaves.
- Awww, Isaac and Nigel are going on a lil date together. (Walking through the grounds) And Baxter’s not invited.
- At least Sam agrees to continue playing D&D at the end. And while Jay is snarky and guilt-trippy, he brings up a good point: he’s joined Sam’s activities in the past to make her happy, so their relationship should have mutual effort. I feel like this should’ve been established earlier so that his mentioning it would have been an actual part of the lesson instead of just a snarkly throwaway line.
- Pfft. Sasappis made Trevor write “MAKE PIZZA” in the steam, prompting Jay to shout “This is not the new system!” Legit funny joke.
All right! That was D&D. It was equal parts fun and frustrating. I was happy to see the addition of new ghosts to the dead cast AND I like the cute romantic tension between Isaac and Nigel. However, my frustration at how Sam and Jay act in this episode keep me from calling it a total win.
Let me know what you guys thought of this episode!

My Complicated Relationship With TMNT 2012
I have a very complex and difficult relationship with the 2k12 series of TMNT, I have a love/hate relationship really, there are things I like about it and things I dislike/to bounderline loathe. So because I fear nothing and because these are simply my opinions which I don’t expect anyone to agree with, I give those opinions in detail, starting off on a good notes;
What I liked:
1. Splinter, mainly his design. When I first saw him, I thought he looked like a cool calico rat. And he can be a good father when he’s not favoriting Leo.
2. The animation. I liked how they choose to go from a 2D animation to a 3D design, sometimes I missed the animation of the 2D animation I grew up with but the 3D wasn’t as bad as others say
3. Splinter’s Death, ironically I know there are some people that hate this because it’s sad, but that’s why I personally love it. It was ballsy to not only kill Splinter once but TWICE and even more ballsy to have the second time be permanent.
4. Karai being Splinter’s daughter, I don’t know I just really liked this twist. I’ve seen Karai being Shredder’s daughter but Splinter’s? That’s a nice change that I actually liked
5. Miyamoto Usagi, ya’ll when I tell you all that I screamed when it was announced he’d be in the show. Like my happy memories I had with the 2k3 series with Usagi back flooding back and I was on cloud 9 with happiness. And he, like always is, is amazing and badass.
6. Chompy Picasso, not much to say other them I thought that alien turtle was adorable and had me melting every time he was on screen. I like how Raph showed how much he loved that little baby turtle, and was basically a step mother to the little alien baby.
What I disliked:
1. Mikey’s treatment, that’s my main problem with the show in general. I absolutely HATED that Mike’s brothers treated him like dirt and I will never be okay with it. Like Raph, I kinda expect that, but Leo and especially Donnie??? Coming from a kid that grew up with loving Don and Mike’s relationship in the 2k3 series, to see how Donnie treated Mikey in the 2k12 show legitimately hurt me. Like??? They legit one time called him a burden??? And like that’s not fucking okay?
2. The Ships, ohhh boy, here we go. Besides Raph and Mona’s relationship which actually took time to develop. I hated every other ship in this series.
Leorai? Hated it, it was even especially creepy when they revealed that Karai was Splinter’s daughter. And no argument of “ohhh but they’re not blood related so it’s okay” will fix that okay? step siblings or not, that’s creepy. What were the writers thinking? That’s like showing kids today it’s okay for step siblings to be in a romantic relationship.
Apriltello? Ughhhh don’t even get me started, I have such a deep loathing for Apriltello. I hated, absolutely hated how obsessed Donnie became with his crush on April, at many times he cared more for her then his brothers, his own family.
Like 2k3 Don had a crush on April but that was it, a crush. He didn’t obsess over April and hold her on a pedestal that she was more important then his brothers.
This moment drawn by 10years perfectly expresses what I’m trying to say:
And what was worse is that she lead him on too. Like he could have accepted the fact he couldn’t make April like him, that could have been a great ending, showing that they are better off as friends, and then April kissed him and ended that growth he could have had.... like, ugh NO. You don’t do that shit, girl. That’s not okay. The show was like 60% made of ships an I hated it. The writers made Karai and April products of ships, and that’s not okay
3. Mikey and Splinter moments, or the lack there of moments between Mikey and Splinter is disappointing. Unlike the rest of his brothers, Mikey himself never had a TRUE moment with Splinter. They never bonded like Splinter did with Leo or Raph or Donnie. It makes the whole “Paps” line feel empty because they never bonded!!!
4. April’s Psychic Powers, like I hated how she had powers. I hated how they never made sense, and hated how she was too OP that they only gave her limits when it fit the narrative during the time. They could have made April a badass warrior without giving her powers.
She reminds me WAY too much of Venus from Next Mutation and I really hate how I can make that comparison. Giving her powers was just, not needed and I will never be okay with that.
5. Casey Jones’ Treatment, like don’t get me wrong I love Casey and I love Josh Peck but I wasn’t a fan of how they wrote Casey in 2k12. Sometimes it felt like he was there to just be there because he’s Casey Jones and everyone is familiar. He hardly really did anything and he was much better writing wise in the 2k3 show.
6. The Way Mikey Was Written, again don’t get me wrong I love Mikey. But sometimes I hated the way he was written on the show. He could never be serious for long then a few minutes. Like when Splinter died! I was hoping to see Mikey shut down completely, because that’s what would have happened to any child who just watched their father fall down a 10 foot building and hit the ground dead. I was hoping to see him not talk at all until his brothers talk to him, that’s what I was hoping for. But what did we get instead? Him cracking jokes a few minutes later.
Like???? I know that people defend Mikey behavior because they (including myself) view him as having ADHD and being on the spectrum and in an emotional standpoint when people grieve that’s how people cope with loss, they joke around a lot but? Look me in the eye and tell me that Mikey shutting down would not have been more impactful and believable then him laughing it off to cope with the pain? He doesn’t always have to be the jokester, he can be serious and can get angry.
The IDW comics and SAINW episode of the 2k3 series showed us that side of Mikey and it worked amazingly. Like you wanna tell me that the 2k3 Mikey or ROTMNT Mikey would break at seeing Splinter die? Hell, a similar situation happened in the 2k3 series twice and both times (while Mikey didn’t stop talking and joked) he still took moments to be serious, he knew when to be quiet and when to joke in order to be the optimistic turtle for his brothers. But 2k12 Mikey? Nope, nothing. And it’s disappointing.
If I had to rate the 2k12 series honestly, then I’d give it a 6/10. It’s not awful and there are things I do genuinely like about it and there are moments where I do laugh, but the things I dislike about it greatly diminish me giving it a better rating.

Happy Christmas, Star Wars Is Over
that was a thing I saw with my own two eyes
“we have to End the Saga! ... but also leave ourselves opportunities to make more money” you really clearly cannot have it both ways
there was... so much about that movie that I would have been able to tolerate... if the trio had been together the whole time
but the instant Rey left the group, it became a terrible movie where stupid things happened for no reason, and there was nothing good going on to balance that out
the trio interactions were, give or take one uppity Poe, everything I wanted
they were so good together
literally I yearned for two whole movies and I finally got what I wanted for a little while
anyway as for the rest of the movie, you know the trolley problem?
they had a couple options for tracks to follow after TFA and TLJ
and instead they just... steered the trolley off a cliff
what hit me hardest was the moments where Rey had the helmet on in Luke’s X-wing, and the moment where she sleds down into the Lars homestead
cute moments! recognizable moments! music cues that helped us recognize them
but the actual takeaway was that she had received absolutely no development since the first time we saw her put on an X-wing pilot’s helmet or sled down a sand hill
none of them did
when people kept asking her in TFA who she was, I never took that to mean “tell us your family name” or “which extremely powerful being gave you your powers” but what is your identity and how do you find it for yourself
which is a theme that could have been explored if they weren’t busy driving the fucking trolley off the cliff
what did any of it really mean? what’s the plan for the future? in thirty years does it all start over again when another Sith lord turns out to still be debatably alive?
also everybody saying “we have to do this or the General died for nothing” like by that point? she had already? died? for nothing???
she projected herself through space to distract her shitty son long enough for Rey to stab him! that was the point!!!
that was the death of her son that she foresaw at the end of her Jedi path! coming to terms with that and making it happen herself for the good of the galaxy could have been a thing!!!
all of these plot points are stupid, but there was a coherent way to connect them, and the movie just kept trying to contradict itself instead
disrespectful honestly
keeping her corpse under a sheet until Kyle faded away was extremely disrespectful
also not a fan of how they tried to build scenes around the scraps of extra Carrie Fisher footage they had to work with
I maintain Leia should have been the one to do the jump at the end of TLJ, and then we wouldn’t have had to deal with this bullshit
Rey should have been a Kenobi
Rey Should Have Been A Kenobi
but moreover, Rey Should Have Been Able to Forge Her Own Identity Independently of a Lineage
which would have done wonders for the trilogy and put her on equal footing with Finn’s character concept
if, let’s say, Palpatine was not a thing in this movie, and let’s say she ended up in Transport Tug of War with Kyle anyway, and she still accidentally Force-lightninged the ship and had to deal with that afterward?
that would have been interesting! grappling with your own capacity for doing evil is interesting! “you have a capacity for doing evil because of your wrinkly granddad” is NOT
imagine the conversation in the ship after the lightning where Finn says he gets it and Rey says he doesn’t, and Finn says yes, yes he does, because everyone has the capacity to cause harm regardless of the scale of it, but it’s the choosing that counts
imagine if these characters got to say things to each other that actually mattered to the plot
what a waste of Jodie Comer
why hire Jodie Comer and only put her onscreen for five seconds
that’s like hiring Thandie Newton and killing her off after twenty minutes, or hiring Ming-Na Wen and killing her off after one epis--oh wait
I was listening hard during the Every Jedi Talks At Once bit and it did my heart good to hear Qui-Gon again
no Chirrut Îmwe though. see? disrespectful
my beloved Finn
my beloved Finn
my beloved Finn is finally confirmed Force sensitive, and there is no time to build on that afterward
my beloved Finn meets more people who broke First Order conditioning and refused to fire on civilians, who escaped and lived free, and we get a thirty-second conversation about it and it’s never mentioned again
that should have been the A-plot
my beloved Finn held. Poe’s. hand. and it was clearly a thing they do regularly
my beloved Finn was so competent
my beloved Finn was a GENERAL
and that’s it. that’s all I’ll ever get of my beloved Finn
Lucasfilm is not going to mention him ever again
I am getting emotional now, back to things that made me angry
what the fuck are they trying to pull with Poe
a spice runner? a spice runner???
no nope no you’re not making him the Han of the sequel trilogy Abrams
and then the whiplash of him being given command and wishing he had Leia’s guidance again and getting guidance from Lando instead and immediately acting on it? there’s actual Poe! right there!
I don’t understand who it is they keep trying to convince us he is, but the real Poe always comes through in the end, thank you Oscar Isaac
the hug
the hug and the focus on Finn holding both of them and crying with relief
I sure did miss Rose
introducing just enough new characters for everyone to have a ~safe~ potential love interest was so transparent
there’ll be a comic book or a novel set decades down the line where some background character will be mentioned in passing as Finn and Jannah’s kid, and that will be that
that being said now that we have Jannah you can pry her from my cold dead hands
the fact that they didn’t even talk about why Lando left the fight???
the leaks I read were from an earlier cut of the movie where Lando told them he had a young child who was kidnapped by the First Order
he didn’t get to say anything about it this time??? it was implied to have been Jannah but they didn’t even get that much? they want us to believe he’s been hanging out on One Party Every Forty-Two Years Planet just because?????
hyperspace gets more and more watered down with every consecutive movie
it’s to the point where even the purrgils don’t seem that special anymore
the disposability of all the ships was almost as irritating as all the planet-hopping
ships, just like lightsabers, are entirely renewable resources, there is one around every corner
my “the Force is really just the ghosts of dead Jedi intervening for the living” theory is still going strong, especially now that Luke could lift his X-wing
Yoda had to do it in ESB because Yoda had more dead Jedi friends  than Luke :)
I legit squealed “WEDGE” when he appeared for 1.9 seconds
afterwards my best friend was like “what’s a Wedge? was it that Mike Pence guy” and I lost it
Leia’s lightsaber was so pretty but I’m sad the blade wasn’t red in this canon
Disney hopes you enjoyed 1.5 seconds of lesbian representation in a Star Wars movie, now never ask for anything again
Dominic Monaghan was also there for some reason
I’m running out of things to say, everything else in this movie was too fucking stupid to even talk about
especially That
we’re not talking about That
at least we’ll always have The Mandalorian (pending any fuckery in the finale)

Glee - S1 E4 (Preggers)
And from this moment onwards, Kurt Hummel proceeded to steal every single damn scene he was in. I’m actually unironically excited for this one. I didn’t think that could still happen! Here goes!
I will always love this Single Ladies scene. I will always love season 1′s Tina/Kurt friendship. Also, Brittany’s here, inexplicably. Did he pay her for this? In Pixie sticks, perhaps? Or Monopoly money?
“Kurt’s Superstar Playlist” is the most adorable name his playlist could possibly have. All we get to see on it are 4 Beyonce songs, and 1 Gwen Stefani - but it’s a cute little insight.
God sometimes I forget how cute Jenna Ushkowitz is and then this scene really slaps me round the face with it huh!!!
WHY are you filming this, Kurt? What are you using this for? I’d love to know. I’d say it’s just to check out his own dancing technique but it’s in black and white… Where are you posting this!!!
I want that swingy-suspended chair thing he has in his room sooooo bad
Ok now the fact that this is being filmed is giving me fic ideas…
BURT HUMMEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BURT F U C K I N G HUMMEL BABIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God the look of fear on all three of their faces when they see Burt??? Don’t you worry kids he’ll come around real soon…
Burt’s approving nod when he yanks on Kurt’s unitard… God I love this man.
The LOOK on Kurt’s FACE when Brittany says he’s on the football team… I can hear his inner monologue like “bitch we may be in the basement but I will make a window to throw you out of”
Kurt just wants to relate to his old man so bad :( Baby boy he’s already so damn proud of you!!! Also that LAUGH.
He really just slapped Tina’s ass! And she completely rolls with it, the absolute champion. Also, the subtitles Netflix provided me with were (smacks bottom) and I just love that.
Oh god it immediately cuts to the WORST scene. Terri learning to give birth. William Schuester trying to help. Just let me perish, RIB?
Shout out to Kendra’s actress for somehow managing to make her character even more despicable than Terri!
Actually the shit she says to Will here is almost valid… All three of them are fucking awful huh!
Seriously why are Kendra and Terri the best actresses on this whole show? It’s the only reason I care about this fake pregnancy arc anymore…
The teacher’s lounge is always either an arid, desolate wasteland, or the only watering hole within 100 miles where all the thirsty ass teachers congregate. Take your pick.
Why does Will pretend to hesitate before going to sit with Ken and Emma? They’re the only people we ever see you talk to dude!!!
Ken with the psychoanalysis, wow. Just hit her right there buddy!
THAT’S HOW SUE C’s IT!!!
Rachel really just EXPECTS every solo… I almost forgot how bad she was when she started. “Maria is MY part!” Not anymore!! Kudos to Lea Michele for managing to make Rachel really sound like she thinks she’s the victim when she really isn’t.
Tina’s face… She was seriously happy. Season 1 Rachel SUCKS for even trying to take this from her. She IS talented. She IS ready!
Everybody else knows it’s a fat load of BS… Kurt lowers his sunglasses to look at her like she’s a bug beneath his shoe. Also, Kurt, why sunglasses? You don’t start getting hangovers ‘til next episode, sweetie!!
“You’re trying to punish me” I think being a total martyr might be one of Rachel’s worst traits early on in the series. I get that performing is her deal, but she can’t even take a second to at least fake being happy for Tina? Unreal.
Everybody else just moving straight on with it is hilarious. They’re all so happy for Tina and don’t give a shit about Rachel’s melodrama, which I’m living for!
I wanna be all “Finn’s an arrogant bastard for assuming Kurt wanted to ask him to prom, grr!!” But then I remember Kurt’s canonically in love with him at this point, so I’ll let him off this time
Kurt’s devious little smile when he asks Finn for a favour… I love one (1) boy!
AHHH THE TRYOUT SCENE. INCREDIBLE. This might honestly be my favourite scene from season 1. It’s definitely up there, anyway.
Cute brotherly Furt moments. Finn putting that helmet on for him. “Red’s your colour!” And they DON’T make Kurt get all giggly about Finn just being nice to him? Kurt just telling him he’s really cool? Pure.
“Rehearsing–” “PRACTICING!”
Finn tells Kurt he’ll be murdered if he uses his music and Kurt comes straight back with that rum chocolate souffle line. This show would be NOTHING without Kurt.
And THIS is what I mean when I say Kurt was a Gryffindor from the get-go. Even now he’s refusing to be anything less than himself for anybody, even the jackasses that harass him every day when he’s on their pitch.
Shut the fuuuuuuuck up, Puck!
“Hi, I’m Kurt Hummel and I’ll be auditioning for the role of kicker.” What did we do to deserve him?
His starting pose… His hips… The footwork… “That was good, right?” His whole ATTITUDE. THE ROYAL WAVE.
As if the TV network would cancel Sue’s news segment for having a few Cheerios in the glee club?
Oh god. Quinn telling Finn she’s pregnant. The fucking cinematography here… The camera work, the audio mixing…
“Think of the mail… Think of the MAIL…”
Did Quinn seriously just say “Ask Jeeves” told her the hot tub could knock her up? I mean, I know she’s lying, but ASK JEEVES? That should’ve tipped Finn off more than anything else…
Damn. Season 1 really had the power to get me shook, laughing, and then crying in the span of 30 seconds? Or maybe it’s just because I can’t stand seeing Diana cry…
Sandy lets his kettle whistle for far too long, it stresses me out
Sue just… Offers this fired man a job? I know she’s got Figgins by the balls over the stockings commercial, but come on, surely the council would get involved or whatever???
Rachel sucks right now but god damn it Taking Chances gives me chills every time I hear her sing it… And she’s so cute when they tell her she got the lead!!!
If musical stuff is so frowned upon socially here, how are they expecting to get a full cast for Cabaret? Especially if NONE of the other glee kids are interested?
And there’s no funding for the arts but they have a whole ballet studio on school property…?
Sign #12 That Mr Schuester Is An Asshole: He just straight up tells Rachel that he’s the only person that likes her, which is wrong for so many reasons
He does have a point about Rachel needing to take a step back sometimes though. I hate that she’s so awful sometimes that I have to agree with Schuester.
He’s not HURTING you Rachel, he’s giving a chance to grow to somebody else!
Jenna did a beautiful job with this solo… Tina’s so cute too! I love her singing this sweet song with her goth aesthetic
This scene between Mr Schue and Tina was almost sweet BUT:
Sign #13 That Mr Schuester Is An Asshole: He did NOT need to touch Tina’s shoulders, or get that close, or whisper to comfort her.
Don’t take one for the team, Tina! Take one for YOURSELF!
I’ll let him hugging Finn slide because, wow, Finn’s breaking my heart right now…
However I will not let it slide that he’s seemingly taken him off campus for lunch…???? Dude, take him to your office. This is creepy as all hell even if he has good intentions…
“I got this at the school library. Did you know that you can just… Borrow books from there?” Protect him. Protect him at ALL costs. He was so genuinely inspired by watching Kurt make those goals that he went to a library for the first time in his LIFE oh my goodness
Oh god. The camera panning from a random father and his young son, over to Mr Schue looking at Finn? HE’S NOT YOUR SON MY GUY, HE IS YOUR PUPIL. PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES!!!
Terri and Will are both brushing their teeth with no toothpaste… Freaks…
Have I mentioned how much I adore those little background choir soundbites between scenes? They did so much for this show…
SHUT! UP! PUCK! Drink your fucking character development juice already!!!
Kurt just casually dropping in Sun Tzu’s Art of War… He just knows that. He’s prepared to just drop that in conversation. Son, why are you so ready for combat,
Also the way Kurt commands their attention? They can rag on him all they want but they all know he’s legit…
Look at all these doofuses in their football gear busting a move. Look at Kurt sat at the front just watching, judging, as he was born to do
MIKE! KILLING! IT! I love that they let us see a sneak peek of his moves… Serious HC that Kurt making the football team dance is the first time that Mike really got to show off his skills
Kurt shooing Mr Schue away like that gives me life!!! Sit down old man
“All right boys…”  And they all look so concerned behind him lmao… “Oh– SNEAK ATTACK back to the ring…” Mike’s trying so hard to keep in time. I love him. OH and there’s Matt! Most valid glee club member simply because he never says anything.
“Comb through the hair… SLAP THE BUTT!” And they’re all trying so hard… 10/10
“I’m your best friend,” says Puck, to the boy he has been consistently fucking over for four (4) episodes, and presumably many years prior…
I really do hate Puck for the first part of this season but god damn does he have some lines. “’Sup, MILF?” “Well, CALL the Vatican! We got ourselves another ImMaCuLaTe CoNcEpTiOn!”
I remember the first time I heard the term “Lima Loser” but I didn’t know the show was set in a place called Lima (I would’ve been, like, 9) and I thought it was lime-a-loser. Like he was going to have limes thrown at him. And it was this big, serious threat…
How the FUCK did Terri get into Quinn’s car? Why is that never addressed? Like, ever? Quinn doesn’t even ASK?
Do this many people turn up to American high school sports events irl??? And do they really play the national anthem? That must get old
Why are all these football players 30… I’m so thirsty for realistic casting…
BURT’S HERE TO SEE HIS SON!!! We love a proud dad.
“I TOLD YOU! I TOLD YOU!!!” And now he’s doing high kicks. Kurt’s doing the absolute MOST.
I will never understand the rules of American football… And I mean NEVER.
“Ring on it on three” I love that it has a code name. And they were all too busy being dudebros to call it Single Ladies…
The one dude on the opposite team who starts boogying along is the real MVP
NEVERMIND. BURT BOPPING IN THE STANDS IS THE MVP!!!
“Can I pee first?” Legendary
Burt just going “he’s so little…” In the middle of the silent crowd…
MY BOY NEEDS HIS MUSIC!
BURT’S SO FUCKING PROUD I’M ACTUALLY CRYING??? YOU CAN HEAR HIM SHOUTING “THAT IS MY BOY!!! THAT IS MY SON!!!” THROUGH THE WHOLE CROWD!!!!
I feel like Puck seeing Finn and Quinn kiss and then the crowd going silent as he walks away is meant to make me feel… Bad for him…? But we’ve only ever seen him be mean to Quinn, really. You’ve got to earn those moments!
Ah… The skincare routine. He’s thriving.
Burt! Hummel! Is! Proud! Of! His! Son!
Burt… I’m pretty sure he assumed you wished his mother was alive. As opposed to her corpse being at the big game.
Oh boy here it comes…… Chris looks SO young here. So scared. So vulnerable. The way he slightly stutters… He nailed this scene. So much.
He’s gay!
He knows.
Do they make sensible heels in sizes for three year olds…? Asking for a dad
The raw EMOTION on Kurt’s face. It’s killing me.
This is the starting point… “I’m not in love with the idea, but I love you.” And it only gets better from there…
And he THANKS his SON. He’s sure. He’s so sure, Burt, and you are going to be so proud of him forever.
Finn gives Quinn that blanket his dad gave him when he was a baby… Did she give it back? I fucking hope so…
You tell him, Finn! Puck IS an asshole!
MIKE’S IN GLEE!!! SO IS MATT!!! And Puck’s here I guess, yay… He’s got a season or so of sucking to go before I can get excited about that.
“Regionals” here we come? My guy, let’s get through sectionals first…
Rachel’s big, cruel smile when she thinks she’s going to be handed Tina’s solo. Why would she presume that it’d just get handed to her??? I mean, I know why, but like, why… And she has the audacity to look like she’s been betrayed. Not even slightly, hon! You deserve nothing if not getting one solo is all it takes for you to quit!
This Sue’s corner genuinely gets me through some shit. “There’s not much of a difference between a stadium full of cheering fans and an angry crowd screaming abuse at you - they’re both just making a lot of noise. How you take it is up to you. Convince yourself they’re cheering for you. You do that, and someday, they will.” Hits me hard!
This one was longer. Primarily because of Burt, I will admit, but it can’t be helped. Perhaps it’s the best episode of season 1 because of Burt! Now that’s a break through…

BECAUSE I’M NOT POPULAR, I’LL READ WATAMOTE: CHAPTER #162
Tanabata has come around once again to offer a generation of high schoolers some false hope in order to distract them from the cruel reality that is life. At least, that’s what the old Tomoko might’ve thought. While the world ultimately didn’t hand everything to her on a silver platter, Tomoko’s half-hearted hope did actually manifest into something she holds dear. The question now remains...
What does she strive for now?
Chapter 162: Because I’m Not Popular, I’ll Make A Wish
Tumblr media
“I wish that Watamote would get a 2nd season!”
Ahem...moving on.
Tumblr media
Nothing like a little friendly brooding to start the day.
Tumblr media
In a weird, ironic way, Yuri seems to empathize with Tomoko over mutual apathy. The one constant they share is that they both like to take the path of least resistance in life. While Yuri may be a little off the mark at times, having that unspoken bond is a great point to start from.
Tumblr media
So we knew Nemo recognized that Tomoko was a former loner, but Yuri, too? Then again, it’s been hinted at before that Tomoko is kind of an open book and that the people around Tomoko are more perceptive of her than she’d like to believe. So yeah, Yuri knew Tomoko barely had friends before she met her (a fact that likely fuels her codependency tendencies). But like any good friend, Yuri stuck around despite that history.
Tumblr media
Still can’t get over her casually calling her Yuri-chan.
Tumblr media
For a hardcore introvert like Yuri, doing something for the sake of being social with no practical purpose seems illogical. It makes total sense that traditions like Tanabata aren’t really her cup of tea. Just how much Yuri is aware of that is still kind of fuzzy, but no less endearing,
Tumblr media
Reiterating a joke I made in the previous chapter, but Tomoko really ought to take a crash course in psychological projection.
Taking a stab at Yuri’s desires, now...I’d say it would be to have someone who really understands her. Or for Minami to lose her fang. Either or.
Tumblr media
Wow, I wouldn’t have figured that Ucchi was the type to write in all caps.
Tumblr media
I always wondered if the sugar-sweet and dragged-out way that moe anime girls yell “Senpaaai!” was actually grating by real-life Japanese standards. Looks like I was right.
Tumblr media
Now those school fan clubs for the ridiculously attractive girl/guy that you sometimes see in manga are starting to feel pretty legit right now.
Tumblr media
“Pfft, basic bitches,” thought Tomoko.
Tumblr media
Smooth like butter.
Tumblr media
You know, I think that Tomoko being unable to come up with something is a solid indication that she’s relatively satisfied with her life right now. Sure, she has career goals and whatnot, but she no longer feels troubled by material desires or short-term gratification. Like Yuri, it may be that Tomoko has more intangible, emotional desires that aren’t easy to put into words. But also like Yuri, Tomoko may have recently already gained that.
Tumblr media
Occasionally–just occasionally–a few earnestly pure-of-heart moments from a cute manga girl is all you really need.
Tumblr media
...Especially when it’s immediately offset by Tomoko being Tomoko.
Ohhhh, boy. That last comment by Tomoko is opening up all sorts of questions regarding her sexuality. I’ve mentioned before that Tomoko may be dealing with some sort of gender dysphoria and I think that’s becoming more apparent than ever. For one, her totally normal-not-at-all-creepy desire to NTR her kouhai assumes that only a guy could do that to Hirasawa. It also implies that Tomoko would only acknowledge liking girls if she identified as male. Not once did Tomoko consider that she, as a female, could NTR another female. All in all, there’s a bit of internalized homophobia, repressed sexuality, etc. at play here, and it’s going to take a bit of soul-searching for Tomoko to sort it all out.
Tumblr media
Once every thousand years, we get some actual chibi art out of this series.
Bless you, Nico Tanigawa.
Tumblr media
The best part of this Hirasawa-vision is that Tomoko is drawn exactly the same, just with lighter tones. Hirasawa’s not blind, just optimistic, which makes her heroine-worship so much more earnest.
Tumblr media
Normally, super innocent girls like Hirasawa who get overly excited on trivial things tend to rub me the wrong way, mostly because I have a hard time thinking young girls are that simple-minded. But there’s something about Hirasawa that feels genuine. It may be because her excitement feels like its deriving from a sense of loneliness. Like an overreaction from latching onto any lure of female friendship.
It’s also just cute.
Tumblr media
Tomoko...I’m pretty sure that’s your confirmation bias talking right there.
Tumblr media
We don’t even need to see anything above the waist, but you can tell exactly who this is based on context alone...
Tumblr media
I was wondering how Ucchi actually manages to do that Darth Vader thing with her mouth...
...then I remembered how her face looks and it makes perfectly no sense.
Tumblr media
Guys, I...I think Ucchi finally broke.
Tumblr media
Actually, Miyazaki, it may not be phrased as a wish, but it definitely is a wish...
Tumblr media
I really enjoy the little bits of characterization in everyone’s wishes. For Yuri and Tomoko, like the BFFs they are, they have the same, most basic wish since they don’t really have any other burning desires. It’s also short and sweet, and without any fluff, as they would normally be if speaking out loud. And lastly, Yuri doesn’t leave her last name, as if she doesn’t want to attach herself onto her wish that far.
Katou, on the other hand, is all giddy and sweet, using words like “hope” and “together” when effectively making the same wish. She uses “we” without naming anyone, making it an all-inclusive wish. Just what you’d expect from the class mom.
Tumblr media
Tomoko’s habit of “lying on reflex” actually makes a great deal of sense. She’s the type who has trouble expressing her vulnerabilities, and lying is a standard defense mechanism, just like Yuri’s noncommital attitude, Nemo’s passive aggression, and whatever Katou most certainly has.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, Yuri, you precious bean. I know jokes aren’t your forte, but your emotional responses–or lack thereof–makes for a great punchline.
Did ya’ll notice how Tomoko’s second wish is exactly what Imae wished for last year? Tomoko may not always make the best decisions when comes to carrying the torch of The Great Megumi Imae, but you can’t deny that she’s making a concerted effort.
Tumblr media
Guess Tomoko isn’t the only one with enough nerve to turn a Tanabata wish into a dirty joke...
Tumblr media
Damn, we all knew that Fuuka was getting an unhealthy fixation over Katou and Tomoko’s “secret” relationship, but never to the point where it was affecting her studies, and by extension, her after-high school prospects. It hints that the series may be taking this misunderstanding into a direction that’s not entirely played for gags. It’s a risky move because such a development could easily come across as contrived if taken seriously, but if they keep it character-driven a la Ucchi, it could make for some really engaging moments.
Tumblr media
C’mon, Fuuka. How did you think people were going to take that?
Of all of the people who’ve been “corrupted” by Tomoko, Fuuka may be taking the most damage out of all of them. Poor thing.
Tumblr media
Let’s see here...
Sometimes I worry about Itou’s sense of self when she always identifies herself by her relationships with others.
Yo, Komiyama doesn’t even bother mentioning the Lottes by name because “Who else of any importance could it possibly be?”. Never lose faith, Komi.
Sweet, naïve Mike. She (and her boyfriend who’s somehow still kicking) is set up to be this series’ greatest tragedy.
Tumblr media
This is Tomoko Kuroki, everyone. The girl who can’t see the raging emoji-faced horndog right in front of her, but will misconstrue a single misunderstanding as a pervert. Selective perception, ain’t it?
Tumblr media
Well, it is a great opportunity to anonymously judge people’s inner desires, so Tomoko’s probably right.
Tumblr media
Here we go again...
Nice to see that Nemo has practical, but optimistic expectations for her goal. She knows that she’s in her prime and is ready to hit the ground running.
The thing about Yoshida’s wish is that it implies that she knows she’ll be faced with resistance. Still, I gotta respect her individuality.
Okada’s wish feels like a cry for help if you look at it another way. That’s probably not the case, though. Probably.
Tumblr media
That’s the beauty of it all, Tomoko. In the end, you really didn’t do anything. At least, not directly. What you did was make yourself into an example for Nemo to follow. One of Tomoko’s greatest attributes is that she’s unapologetically herself, which is how she eventually got noticed–and in Nemo’s case, admired–in the first place.
Tumblr media
Quakey legs + short people problems = cute Tomoko.
Aw man, what I wouldn’t give for this to be a running gag. That in all those chapters where Tomoko was all alone, there was actually somebody she knows now that was in the scene, too. It (sort of) first happened with the dick-pics-in-class chapter and the three-legged race guy, after all. Poor Tomoko has all this baggage that can be used against her now.
Tumblr media
For those with shitty memory like me...
“I want to lose my virginity in a year so I don’t lose track of my bigger goals.”
Of course, she’d forget about the part that actually mattered.
Tumblr media
Well, you know, Tomoko, they do say that every joke/lie has a kernel of truth.
I noticed that a lot of (comedy) manga seems to like elevating the value of losing(or saving) one’s virginity to absurd levels, at least in the inexperienced minds of its teenaged male characters. Tomoko herself has perpetuated this notion in the past. But even so, the “in-universe” outside of Tomoko’s mind never really aggrandizes sex, and I find that it to be a very refreshing change that shows how, in reality, as Nemo suggests, losing your virginity isn’t really that big of a damn deal.
Tumblr media
Good ol’ Tomoko logic at its finest.
Tumblr media
Nemo looks...surprisingly serious about that. Normally that kind of talk would catch her off guard a little, but she had no hesitation with that retort. I think that’s solid evidence that Nemo has done more research into the nature of the voice acting industry, especially after Tomoko unintentionally trolled her with that eroge.
This could lead to even more intellectual (if not openly sexual) conversations between Tomoko and Nemo that go beyond their usual bantering. That’d be pretty lit.
Tumblr media
Well, if Tomoko is a direct reflection of the author, then she probably thinks light novels are mostly for loser otaku trying to live their perverted fantasies through self-insert literature (at least, what I gathered from Write Sisters).
Tumblr media
Well, I’m be damned if that isn’t blatant foreshadowing for where Tomoko’s future is headed.
Tumblr media
Even though I saw it coming a mile away, it still gives me the warm fuzzies.
Tumblr media
As fantastic as it would be for Tomoko to be an accomplished light novelist with Nemo voicing a character in her anime adaptation, I feel like that level of success would be a little out of reach for this series’ approach to realism.
If I were to look into the future, I’d say that Tomoko would write a light novel that’d be successful just enough to be greenlit for an ultimately mediocre anime adaptation. And Nemo, being a rookie, would either be not cast at all, or be given a bit part for a background character.
Of course, that’s all speculation. As Nemo says, the freedom to dream is the one thing we can count on. And if there’s one thing the mangaka has learned from doing this series, it’s that being realistic doesn’t mean you can’t have a happy ending.
Tumblr media
I guess being considerate/decent to complete strangers is still locked out of Tomoko’s comfort zone.
Tumblr media
I think we found a member of Rena’s family.
Man, the more we get these tidbits of Imae’s legacy affecting the school (and Tomoko), the more nostalgic I get for her. I sincerely hope we get to see her at least one last time before the series is over.
Tumblr media
And in tried-and-true Watamote fashion, we get a little bit of Tomoko’s wisdom to end off another thought-provoking chapter.
In retrospect, there wasn’t a whole lot of “action” in this chapter that could be built upon later. It was mostly a series of gags sprinkled with some nice conversation (at least until Nemo’s part). One of the core themes that Nico Tanigawa seems to be playing with is, “Now that Tomoko has come this far, where does she go from here?” And the answer is...
They don’t know.
Legitimately, I don’t think the mangakas know exactly what Tomoko’s endgame will be. Sure, they have some strong ideas in terms of school and career, but nothing definitive. As s result, I think playing with the gags and jokes a bit more is their way of “stirring the pot” and seeing what comes out. All of Watamote’s greatest developments did originate from comedy, after all. The first Tanabata chapter is a prime example of this, and I have no reason to think that the stars of the second Tanabata chapter won’t shine over Tomoko once again.

Stranger Things 3 wishist bc it’s 10 days away and I’m !!!! dying inside
MAX!!! and MIKE!!! SNARKY!!! FRIENDSHIP!!! The potential they have is too good to be overlooked & I’m sure it’ll be explored at some point (if not season 3 then season 4 but please give it to me)
Mike and Lucas navigating first relationships together and bonding over that and being the iconic two Venkman that they are
JOPPER. Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper deserve 👏🏻 great 👏🏻 sex 👏🏻 and they deserve it with 👏🏻 each 👏🏻 other 👏🏻
Steve and Dustin besties time but also geniuine emotional moments because their relationship has the potential for more than just comedy
Erica Sinclair & her squad becoming immediately iconic and adding representation to this very white cast
I know it’s in vain because I’ve seen the trailers but please PLEASe let Will Byers be happy for at least 2 whole episodes
The rule of the Bs doesn’t disappoint and B*lly is the character that is going to die this season. If it’s someone else I’m going to flip a van Eleven style
Max and El friendship because the bond girls create with each other is magical & unmatched and I want more of that in a show with lots of dudes
El and Will bonding and actually developing a relationship over the trauma they both have!
I’m expecting a bit of Mileven drama but I know it’s all going to be okay in the end, I just want them to be happy and enjoy being together again after being separated for a year & develop their relationship more
Mike and Hop hating each other at first but realizing that they might have more in common than they thought (wanting to protect El at all costs). Also can we talk about the fact that Hopper could be a better father figure than Ted? Because I would pay to see a scene exploring that
Jancy working as a team like they always have
No hard feelings between Nancy, Steve and Jonathan because I’m over this type of drama and I want everyone to get along
Maybe Robin & Nancy becoming low key pals because Nancy legit hasn’t had a friend since Barb and that’s very sad :(
I feel like Jonathan and Robin could get along really well too considering she’s described as an “alternative girl”? They could be shy hipsters together, idk, that could be cute
Joyce basically being El’s mom
El and Nancy actually interacting
El and Steve actually interacting
Actually just Steve with all the other party members (besides Dustin of course bc he already has a relationship with him)
Nancy and Mike having screentime together and maybe sharing more things with each other/trusting each other more. I feel like they’re both at that age where you start to get along with your siblings again if you know what I mean (+ they’ve been through a lot, it should bring them closer together)
No major hard feelings between Lucas and Dustin over Lumax dating
More of Max in general, I want her to be more explored than she was in season 2 because that’s what my girl deserves
Lumax being developed in some way (and if they break up I don’t want it to end their friendship)
These friendships explored: Dustin & Will, Dustin & El, Lucas & Will, Lucas & El, Will & Max, Max & Dustin. Just give me all of that good, wholesome content
I feel like the only person in the fandom who’s dying to see more of Mr Clarke, Flo and officers Powell & Callahan? They’re just minor characters but they have so much personality!
I really want to know more about Steve’s home life and his relationship with his family
More of Dustin, Lucas and Max’s parents & family life
Hop and El being a badass dad/daughter duo but also seeing them be cute and affectionate with each other because they both deserve so much love and support
It’s probably not everything I want because I’m a greedy bich but I’ll stop here for now

ask dump! Separated loosely by topic
Questions and Comments
1. is this a homestuck thing. this is a homestuck thing isnt it  2. lol i love doing both!!! i love world building but i also like trying my hand at redesigning the mess that is canon fashion. @theoretical-artist 3. thank you!!! oritel and marion are in this post! 4. ayyyyy inginio hit me up (thank you lol) 5. Thank you! 6. maybe? i’ll see if i get around to it, i still have a few characters to get to so the school fairies and the last two selkies might show up with them 7. probably not.... it would be super fun but unless it was a commission i don’t feel like i have time haha 8. I’ve seen their blog around!! i can’t remember if i follow or not but i know who ur talking about and they cool @winxy-writing @winxys-written-world
Character and Worlbuilding
1. My brilliant nerd daughter!!! She sometimes gets so into coding or a video game she forgets to eat or drink so the girls watch out for her. She’s prone to dissociating, especially if the situation is emotional. Her hair is really soft. she actually loves sappy romantic things but has trouble accepting them or vocalizing that she wants them because they’re impractical/illogical. she discovered romcoms when she got to alfea and they are her ultimate guilty pleasure(only flora knows abt this and is always slipping recs to her) 2. They’re weirdly one of my fav couples??? like maybe its because i relate to and have projected onto both of them lmao. but any ways. Daphne and Thoren actually met when they were kids, but didn’t spend much time together because it was at a formal event. Daphne is technically 20 years older than Thoren(only a few years older than Sky), but they’re the same physical age because Daphne spent so long as a spirit. They probably wouldn’t get married as quickly in my version, especially with Daphne’s trauma. Daphne will have nightmares sometimes and Thoren has a whole routine for comforting her and helping her feel safe and grounded. Thoren gets anxious easily, and Daphne will use her magic to subtly change the environment so he feels more comfortable. they like to watch reality tv together and yell at dramatic people. 3. omg yes. this was the most frustrating thing i was watching through winx with my dad like a month ago and every time bloom called her adoptive parents by their first names i yelled at her lol. she would call Vanessa mama and Mike daddy(if you make a kink joke i will eat your liver). She would call Marion and Oritel mom and dad.  4. Yeah kind of! part of her exhaustion in Dowlland was the fact that she had been in fairy mode for so long, hiking underground, and tossed around in a river like??? anybody would need a pick me up after that. She (and all solarians) do have to live where there’s a lot of natural light as they require a high amount of vitamin d(or the equivalent of it for solarians). short trips usually aren’t a problem, Stella is just hella unlucky in the second season lmao. @moonpeachblossom 5. the short answer as to why she’s a blond (scottish??? in one of the dubs???) in an asian inspired culture/planet is because racism (or not so short bcus its a lot to unpack honestly). the answer in my version however is a pretty simple fix. She bleaches her hair. she’s paler than musa but she aint white.  6. I haven’t really yet!! Helia is struggling with his two fairly opposed cultural influences, trying to figure what he wants and whats right for him. He was raised on Lynphea but had frequent trips to Vaonaa. Lynphea is very grounded, they’re slow and steady and stubborn. Vaonaa is much more flexible, they’re flighty and spontaneous and easily adaptable. Helia’s dads love eachother and helia very much but they are VERY different people and both want different things from Helia(they try not to pressure too much but the expectations are still there). Helia’s Vaonaaj dad wants him to pursue magic, specifically wind or air magic. Helia’s Lynphean dad wants him to become a warrior. Helia feels like he’s kind of a misfit in both Vaonaaj and Lynphean culture. It took a while, but he did finally confide his feelings in Flora and she encouraged him to talk with his dads about finding his niche.  7. oooooooh fun fun relationshipsssss Bloom and Sky: so bloom and sky aren’t the most stable couple, and in my version it would take bloom a little longer to be ok with dating a prince. Bloom is fairly insecure in her relationships because of self worth issues, and tend to run away from problems instead of dealing with them. Sky on the other hand is confident but doesn’t really know how to handle people’s feelings and tends to push confrontation. I do believe that with better writing Sky and bloom could be a dope couple but as is in canon they’re VERY problematic.  Stella and Brandon: babies. they love each other so much its the best omg. Stella finds her worth in her appearance but she always seems to take brandon’s complements in a less.... arrogant way? if that makes sense? like she truly appreciates them and wants his support. i wish we knew more about Brandon but he’s legit such a good boyfriend. I think they fight mostly when Stella is being a little selfish, or when Brandon is too busy to meet her emotional needs. Flora and Helia: MORE BABIES. so Helia is more of a drama queen in the comics but we’ll ignore that for right now lol. Flora and Helia are probably the least problematic couple in the entire show. They met. Flirted a little. Confessed. and started dating with out any major problems. if i can remember correctly they don’t even really fight??? unless icy has frozen helia’s heart or something lol. I think both Helia and Flora’s love language is quality time so they’re fairly low key and just like to be in the same space and each other.   Musa and Riven: boy oh boy. Ok so, ignoring the several times Riven was LITERALLY MIND CONTROLLED his character is still difficult to deal with. I think Musa and Riven are both very intense people, and while that can be super fun and develop into a good relationship, it can also lead to LOTS of problems. I think my major problem with how they broke up was that Musa didn’t support Riven’s training? like i understand being upset you can’t see ur person often, or if they’re really busy, but Riven supported Musa’s music several times in the previous seasons it just seemed weird Musa was so unfairly demanding of him? Tecna and Timmy: nerd babies. They’re super cute honestly. I think Timmy was probably the one to instigate the relationship and bonded with Tecna over technology since she wasn’t super emotionally available at first. They have issues when Tecna is unable to voice her emotions and timmy needs to know what she’s feeling mostly, but after the first few times they’ve both learned to give the other space to figure their stuff out. Aisha and Nabu: ugh perfect couple. minus the kind of sketchy beginning lol. Aisha and Nabu generally don’t fight once they get used to each other. Nabu is a focal point that aisha is kind of bungee corded to if that makes sense? like obvi not in a restricting way. its just Aisha is hella active and needs her own space to explore and grow, but Nabu is her solid ground that she relies on.  Aisha and Nex: i actually don’t hate nex as much as the rest of the fandom lol. so like i said Aisha is an active, independent woman, and if Nabu was a separate, stationary, focal point for her, I think Nex is related, moving, counter point. So like Nex can actually keep up with Aisha, and push her and challenge her. Which isn’t a bad thing in relationships so long as a mutual respect is there.   8. well. canon is a little..... messy. My version of the girls definitely retain their individualism. for other differences... they’re just a little more fleshed out? i guess? like Bloom’s moody behavior in the show i think is because of her insecurity issues, so that plays a part in how i draw her and think of her.  9. ok wow this is gonna be tough well here we go Sky: I think sky is an ESTJ he’s not super emotional(inf Fe) but can lean toward controlling(dom Te). he seems to like tradition and think social promises are important(Si). Brandon: ESFJ. Brandon is the mom friend of the boys ok. He goes along with sky’s crazy plans, tries to subtly set Riven up with musa(season 1 i think?), some how managed to land a social butterfly like Stella and seems to just navigate social situations REALLY easily(dom Fe). he also seems to hate being disrespected or taken for granted(Si) stella does this occasionally.  Timmy: ISFJ???? thats the vibe i get hear me out ok so in season 2 Timmy gets tecna the exact computer part she needs because 1. He knows they both like things to be practical(Si) 2. He knows and remembered the part she was talking about and filed it away in his brain(Ti) and 3. He and Tecna bonded over tech (Fe) Riven: honestly he’s a tough one.... Maybe a really stunted and angry ISFJ? (speaking from personal experience i am an ISFJ) i don’t have a real reason why but riven’s behavior is really confusing in the show so it makes typing tough..... possibly INTJ as well....... Helia: ISFP. Lmao I might be basing this entirely off of stereotypes but helia has a strong pacifist belief and can be moody(Fi, and more in the comics lol) is attuned to his surroundings(Se) seems pretty focused??(Ni) and i can’t think of his Te showing up be it is an inferior  Nabu: ISTJ weirdly a good fit with Aisha(ESTP) tho?? even though he’s an Si dom, he doesn’t go along with the arranged marriage because its not what he believes(Fi) and he’s stubborn about it(Te). Roy: ENFJ honestly just a cutie. He’s personable(Fe), focused for the most part(Ni), and is comfortable in his environment(Se).  Nex: ENTP? maybe?? He’s pretty impulsive and has that “work around” mentality I associate with ENTPs.... idk this one doesn’t seem to fit super well...  Thoren: Maybe INFJ?? i mean thoren honestly doesn’t have a lot of screen time but he’s attentive(Ni), and tries to take care of people(Fe). most of the infj’s i know are fun but weird lol, but i think thoren has anxiety so that could play into him being less “out there” in his behavior.  if any of yall have input on this feel free to let me know. 10. ooooooh good question. So I’m basing these on their parent’s name and the names of people from their planet. Bloom: Hestia or Enya, i also think she got sent to earth with an article of clothing or a blanket that had her name on it, which is why her name is the same lmao Stella: Stella is actually named pretty appropriately considering the other names we have are Luna, Radius, Nova, Chimera, and Casandra, all of those are fairly latin/roman based names.  but she could also be called Clara, Aura, Venus etc. Musa: Her mom and dad have very asian sounding names but the princess of melody is named Galatea, so honestly anything is on the table. Aulos, Hee-Young, Jia Li, Kaida, etc. Tecna: lol everybody on Zenith has ridiculous names so im just loosely basing them off of sciencey stuff. Nobelia, Xenon, Titania. Aisha: I actually really like Aisha’s name! Ayize, Sizani, Mehrbano would work tho. Flora: what even is the naming system of Lynphea i don’t understand it. Im gonna make them vaguely naturey and European-ish?? Calla, Terra, Rowan, Willow, I could go on and on there are so many plant names. 11. Hmmm yeah, so basically in my world a person with TOO MUCH magic gets overwhelmed and kinda goes a little crazy(the ancestral witches) the same thing happens with tritannus when he gets the emperor's throne power. He’s loyal to icy and she to him until he looses his ability to think clearly and turns on icy, icy gets freaked out and leaves with her sisters when they swoop in to rescue her. they don’t so much “break up” as they are “broken up” by the circumstances. In general Tritannus does really like Icy, hes attracted to her ambition and powerful personality. Icy started out just manipulating Tritannus but caught feelings oops 12. Yeah so, humans in general can withstand a lot of wild magic as their body “metabolizes” it quickly. Kalshara(the cat lady you don’t know the name of) used extremely concentrated samples, combined with other spells to keep the wild magic in her body permanently. If a human with out a properly developed magic biome (a lot of earthians only have a low functioning one) get exposed to a wild magic source they would probably gain some aspects of fairy animals, probably not like, fur, or anything but eye and hair color changes, maybe some patterns on the skin. but there’s also the chance that they would just.... die..... cus that happens with animals too lmao sry. @weirdghostly

“Dope A-F” - 5/1-5/7 - “Lot’s of Shows, A Riot at Castleburg, and Do You Have Twitter?”
I GOT BEHIND AGAIN!!! WHY LAYDEES WHYYYY!!! You’ve got to keep me on my toes lovely ones. I will get these shows done. I have a lot of mics to get caught up on, but I know we can do it! So let’s get right to it! xoxo
5/1
I was trying to hit three mics tonight. It was going to be tough, but I knew I could do it. It was also Jacob McFadden’s last night hosting Home Sweet Home before he moved to PA.
My night started by doing a happy hour and hanging with some coworkers for a bit. After that I headed to Main Stage Cafe which is the home of Jay Ron’s Weak on Wednesday’s comedy show. This was the first time I was going to be able to check it out.
I got there early to sign up, and got some fried chicken Mac and cheese. I met up with Bryan Williams, and we hung out and chatted. I took a phone call with another comic about some stuff they were gong through and wanted to discuss with me, and then when I came back in more comedians started to show up.
Jay Ron gets there and he tells us he is gong to wait for a few people to get there before the show starts. There are a few comics doing the open mic, and a few for the booked portion.  This is an urban show, so it was an exclusively black audience. Which is fine with me I love working these rooms. It’s a great way to try new stuff, and see if your material works across different groups.
I am told I am going to be up second. First is Bryan. He goes up after Jay Ron and they don’t really vibe with him at all. He gets a few laughs, but his self deprecating style doesn’t really click with he 8 or 9 people that are there.
After he gets off it is my turn. Jay Ron brings me up on stage saying I am his, “n word” and that gets a laugh. I then go up and go right into crowd work. Bryan asked if anyone used facebook and no one responded so I riffed on a lady who is obviously lying because she has been on Facebook this entire show. I then talk to a single lady about if she ever been with white guys she said no in a negative tone so I riffed on her being racist, and then went into my material. I talked about teaching and it got some good responses.
I felt good about my set because I feel like I woke the crowd up, and got them involved. I love being able to be the one to crack them, and make the show better for other comics. I’d give my set a B-. Some of the crowd work was lame, but it worked, and the material did as well.
I left immediately and headed over to Emiliio’s hosted by Sho. I was hoping I’d be able to get up quickly before heading over to HSH. I walk up to the venue and it looks empty. I walk in and there are like 5 or 6 people talking at the bar and Sho says I can go up if I want. Apparently only one other comic Aaron Shoemaker even did Emilio’s that night. Which is a shame that people did not take advantage of another mic so close to HSH.
I tell him I’m ready to go up and I have a super fun 10 minute set. I try all new stuff, and the people there are super into it. I riff quite a bit, and try some stuff including my R. Kelly joke (which has been doing pretty well) and legit this is one of the more fun poorly attended mics I’ve done in a while. I’d give this set a B+. I talk to Sho a bit and then head over to HSH.
I get there and it is packed. Like legit. The show is starting in five minutes and there are about 30 comics signed up, and an actual crowd, and Jacob is starting to get super emotional.
Comics drove from all over to go up.  Some came from DC just to get a spot and say goodbye, which was really dope to see. The comics meeting was held outside and it seemed like Jacob was going to cry. I take a few pictures, and then head inside. Everybody is here. Beswick, Velez, Anthony, Kusterer, Engle, Mike Shea (Brown Frown the Clown), Stella, Richard Woody, Alex Dejulio (came from DC) Bryan, and so many others including some newbies.
The crowd is into the show from the beginning. It is jammed upstairs so you people are having to stand all the way down the stairs and it is awesome. I am up eighth and I am watching comic after comic go up and have a good set. I am so nervous, but also so ready to go.
Finally it is my turn. I go up and Jacob gives me a classic bad intro saying that I am a bad guy that everyone hated, and that I lie about teaching at a school for autism. It makes me laugh and I go up. I do a little light crowd work. I talk to a new comic who is chatty and says his name is also Jacob, and I am like, “I like old Jacob better, this new Jacob is too chatty.” That gets a laugh and then I go into my material and I have a pretty hot set. Some things don’t hit as well as others, but everything gets a laugh and my R. Kelly joke hits really hard. This is the joke I am enjoying doing the most right now,. I also used my last 30 seconds to say something nice to Jacob and just when he was getting ready to cry I made sure to throw a joke in. I’d give this set a solid A-.
I get off stage and feel super good. After me is Anthony and he has a hot set as well. I go downstairs after his and just relax and chill. I am enjoying talking to everybody and just being in the moment. I make sure to stick around for Brown Frown the Clown. I also make sure to watch Jacob give Richard Woody the worst intro of all time. He finally got to do the bit again where he brings Richard Woody up as a convicted sex offender which he has done to Richard for the last 6 years of comedy. It got a laugh and Richard said some kind words and then got off stage.
When it is Brown Frown’s turn to go up all the comics try to pack it in upstairs. People are standing on the steps and even sitting on the floor. I make sure to make my way to the front to get some good pictures. Brown Frown is a drunken clown character created by Mike Shea and a staple of RVA comedy for years and years.
This performance he pretended to be breaking up with Jacob and the set included suicide jokes, sex with poop, sex with dolls, sex with Jacob, used condoms, maggots in someone’s pee hole, and parody songs about his love for Jacob. It was the best Mike Shea performance I have ever seen.  It made me laugh so hard and I am so glad I was there to witness it. Afterwards I headed downstairs said my goodbyes and headed home. This had been a long but fun night doing comedy in Richmond.
5/3
No mics so I took off Thursday. There was also nothing going on in RVA on Friday and I wasn’t booked so I hopped on three shows in DC. I got off work and headed straight up there. I was in traffic for what felt like forever and a 2 hour drive ended up taking about 3 1/2. I get there and park where I usually do. I take a 30 minute walk to get to Comedy Club DC (at Club Heaven and Hell) which is Tom Mango’s room.
I get there and go inside. I talk to Tom for a bit. It is crazy hot upstairs because the AC isn’t on yet. Reid Clark is hosting, and he and I watch this video about how Anthony Jeselnik built his newest hour. After this some people start to show up, but we are warned it is going to be a light crowd. I grab my stuff and move to another table.
Mark Mensh a comic from up there and I had a super long nice talk. We talked about comedy and he said a lot of nice things about the blog which honestly means a lot. I don’t know I assume no one reads this so when someone else does, and they tell me things they enjoy about it it really gives me the energy to keep doing it.
We then talked about him moving into the city, and how shows have been. We talked about Gary Gulman and his everyday tips, and just continued to discuss the art of comedy. It was a nice and very fun talk.
More and more comics showed up. I met a few, but it is mostly people I don’t know at all. Bob Siegel was there and I met a dude named Jamal. We are all chilling and the show finally gets started with about 11 people there.
Tom gets in a Gumby outfit and goes up to introduce Reid as host. The first half of the show is people going up and trying to crack them. It is tough because it seems like no one is able to do it. They’ll chuckle a little, but the energy is never there, and the audience definitely needed to wake up.
Comic after comic goes up. A few do well, and a few do ok. Most don’t do very well at all. Tom is freaking out, but it is no one’s fault. These are a lot of newer and inexperienced comics, and being able to wake up a tough crowd is definitely a skill you have to develop.
Finally it is my turn. I go up and do 15. My only goal is to make the show better for everyone else after me. I have to do some crowd work, and slowly get them on my side. I get a few huge pops, and really won them over. I was sweating so much, and working my ass off. Not my best set, but it was super productive. I felt like I got the room ready for comedy, and did my job as the dude closing the first half of the show. I got to do a lot of newer stuff and it worked like I’d been doing it for a while. I’d give my set a B.
After this Tom went up and did his time. He got a few laughs, and I just hope the next few comics can really grab onto the momentum and ride it.  After him everybody started to do really well. You could tell the crowd wanted jokes, and since I got on stage another 20 or so people had come into the venue. They all had good energy and everybody did well. Even though I wouldn’t say I got the biggest laughs of the night by any means, I definitely felt good about what I had done. Mark had a good set, and a few other dudes I had never seen before really did well as well. It was nice to see.
After this I said goodbye and thanked Tom for the time. I hopped in an Uber and headed over to DC Drafthouse to do Attack of the Comics hosted by Haywood Turnipseed JR.
I get there and I am a little early. I meet a comic from NYC named Irene who is down for a music festival, and I got to walk to a few comics I hadn’t seen in a while. I got to talk to Benjy for a bit because he was opening for Anthony Devito for the two early shows. Ross showed up, and finally Haywood decided to get the show rolling. I was going to be going second so I could hit Big Hunt.
Haywood goes up and does about 10 to 15 and gets the crowd warmed up. I can tell they are gong to be fun.  After him Al Williams goes up. He just moved back, and he had a good set. After him it was my turn.
I go up and have a super hot set. Everything is working. My R. Kelly joke absolutely murders. I am so upset that I left my camera in my car like an idiot. I am desperately trying to get a good video of that joke so I can post it online before it becomes wack. The rest of my set goes well and I close really hard with a teaching joke. I'd give this set an A-. Other than a few lines up top that were weird everything worked great. I say thanks and hit the road heading over to Big Hunt.  Ross tells me he dug the R.Kelly joke and I respect that dude a lot so that felt great.
I get to Hunt and people are hanging out downstairs. Sami Sfeir is hosting and there is a good conversation about strip clubs going on downstairs. I get to talk to Lafayette, Cook, Sean, Maddy, and a few others. Naomi showed up and we got to talk about some school stuff she has coming up soon so that was nice.
I am set to go up pretty late in the show so I settle in ready to hang for a while. then I get the glorious news that Ross isn’t there yet so I get bumped up a few spots. The crowd has been drunk and weird all night. They didn’t really give Maddy anything in front of me. It derailed her set and their attention was all over the place. They didn’t seem fun, but I had to go up and work it.
I had a pretty good set all things considered. I hated it, but I know it was going pretty well. I got the R.Kelly joke to work well, and a few other things. They were drunk so I had to slow down what I was saying and try to sell it really hard. I feel good about it though. I just didn’t murder the way I wanted to. I’d give this set a b-. I then grabbed my stuff and headed right to my car. I was too tired to go home so I ended up going to TJs and passing out immediately. I have two shows tomorrow and I need my rest.
5/4
The next day I woke up and relaxed for a while before driving down to Richmond. I was going to be there pretty early and was looking for something to do. I was getting ready to go to a friend’s to take a nap but then Nathan Possum (my old partner from Comics and Consoles and the creator of Barry White Hanson) hit me up and we got lunch.
It was a lot of fun seeing him. We talked about comedy, and possibly bringing back Comics and Consoles in another form than the let’s play. Mostly we just caught up and talked shit. It was a super fun time and the best way to wind down before the first show.
I had e-mailed Mike Engle for a spot earlier in the week, but I wanted to get there early to write and relax. I head over to Castleburg Brewery to set up shop. I chill in my car a bit and then head inside once Bryan Williams gets there. We chill and talk a bit and more comics show up.
Mike gets there, a bunch of new comics, Stella, Ryan Mather, the headliners (Tim Truehart, Drew Robertson), Moe Singleton, Aaron Shoemaker, and  Ben Oliver.. We get a game of corn hole going, and legit it is one of the better hangs I’ve had doing comedy in a while. Everybody is joking around and we keep playing until showtime.
The way Game of Jokes works is you have several brackets of randomly selected comics. You don’t know when you’re going up, but when you go up you do 5 minutes and at the end of the round the audience votes on who they like, and it is up to the two judges to pick who they think had the best set. The only thing you win is an extra five minutes. Which is cool, but honestly it doesn’t matter that much.
Around the time the show starts Anthony Thompson shows up. The hang is still pretty good and there is a nice little audience. Mike goes up and he does ok. They are not vibing with his new, but I respect that he was trying to work out this new joke anyway. The first comic is this dude named Fancy Gym and he does a bit where he brings a huge red bag on stage and he goes “knock knock”. The audience goes, “who’s there”? He says, “banana,” and then proceeds to take a banana out of the bag. He does this for 5 minutes and brings out about 70+ bananas, when he finally gets to the orange it gets a pretty good laugh. He messed up the line, but it was entertaining to watch.  Kind of ridiculous, and five minutes is a long ass time to see that.
I then get a phone call and go outside. it is a dude trying to book me for a gig on Mother’s Day. While we are working out the details someone comes out and tells me it is my time to go on stage. I am kind of freaking out because this is a paid gig, but at the same time I’m not trying to ruin the show.  I ask the booker to let me call him back and as I am running inside I hear one of the judges yell, “if he doesn’t hang up that damn phone, and get in here he is gong to get bumped.” Which I felt was a little aggressive.
I get up on stage and go into my act and I have a super hot set. My R.Kelly joke gets a huge response and then I do a few teaching jokes along with my newish bit about sleep masks. I have the best set up to this point of the show. I dealt with a table of hecklers calling them juggalos after I mention Faygo, and then shitting on them a bit. They loved it and all in all it was a really fun set I was proud of. I’d give it a B+/A-.
I get off stage and go finish my phone call. I get done right as the final comic is on stage. I asked how people have been doing, and everyone says the rest of the comics in my group did ok/pretty well. I have another set to get to this night so I don't particularly want to make it to the next round, but it is definitely cool to be picked.
They ask the audience to vote for everybody. Each person gets a pretty good response, but I had a resounding response for my set. It felt cool to be able to crack them, and set the rest of the show up for success. Then it came time for the judges to pick. Tim picked his buddy Jacob who rode up with him, and Drew picked my buddy Ryan. No big deal. I was surprised but at the same time this solves the problem of sticking around for the second set.
They then have the audience vote between those two. They say Jacob’s name and no one really claps. They then say Ryan’s name and no one really claps. Mike goes, “ok well we are going to have to do it again.” As he says this a woman behind one of the judges goes, “everyone did really well, but this is bullshit we all know Winston won,” and then the crowd went insane. Like absolutely nuts. It was giving me so much anxiety because I’d never seen something like this before. In the moment it sucked, but looking back it was a pretty cool thing. One judge goes, “he is not in this so you need to pick between the two we picked.” This upset them a bit, and I had to go and be like, “hey everybody. It is ok. Pick between my friends this is a fun show.” After this they finally picked and they moved on. Tim went on stage and started his set talking about how he voted for who he rode with because he has to go back with them. Which is fine, and got a good laugh. I didn’t watch most of his set because I was feeling weird.
I went outside to kind of unwind. Like that whole situation gave me a lot of anxiety. It was weird for that to happen and feel like it was derailing the show. The vibe was just weird and I didn’t really want to be around it. While I was outside with my friends talking and relaxing the Drew dude came out to me and was like, “you had a wonderful set.” I told him he didn’t have to lie to me. I wasn’t upset, but for him to not vote for me it just means he didn’t dig my comedy which was ok. This stuff is subjective, the dude was obviously an alt comic and it wasn’t his cup of tea. He kept trying to talk to me, and I told him I didn’t want to talk. I was having an anxiety attack and this wasn’t productive. He said I had good stage presence and I was like, “dude. I do not want to hear why you didn’t pick me. It is ok, but this isn’t productive and I don’t want to hear it.” He finished with, “I’ll just shut up.” I told him that was a good idea and he went inside.
This also gave me more anxiety, but I feel like I did the right thing. It was weird for him to come out and try to smooth stuff over. I felt like everyone was making this thing a bigger deal than it was. I also just hate people being fake. Like he didn’t think I had a wonderful set. So it doesn’t make sense to lie to me about it. I felt like I didn’t get voted for because I’m a hack (I suffer from imposter syndrome quite a bit). I still hung out and watched some more of the show. I stuck around to watch part of his set, and they didn’t vibe with him up top for first few minutes so I grabbed my stuff and headed out. The vibe was wack, and I was upset because of how much fun the day was up until that point.
I got in my car as it started to rain and headed to the warehouse show I was going to be on. It is on the other side of town and it was hosted by Tom Hall.  The lineup is going to be fun, and I’m just ready to get there.
I get there at 10:40 and the show was supposed to start at 9:30 and it hadn’t started yet. Tom is pretty drunk and everyone is hanging out. It is a good vibe, and I tell a few people the story from Castleburg which alleviates some of my anxiety. LE Zarling is there as is Anne Meng, Kusterer, Paige, Buhse, Alida, Muñoz Jarvis, and a lot of others.
They have me going last and I have to ask them to bump me up because I’m exhausted and I cannot go up at 12:45 in the morning. They let me go first and we get the show started. Tom goes up and warms them up for ten minutes, and then I get to have a pretty good set.
It is as well as a show like this could go. Two doors down there is a hip hop show, and everyone had been here drinking since 8 pm. I have a good opening line thanking people for coming to a show on the set of Saw 3. That gets a good pop and the rest of my set goes well. I do ten minutes and I’d give it a B. I still feel weird, but I am proud I did my set.
After I get off stage several comics from Castleburg show up. Including Stella, Anthony, and the judge Drew. The show keeps going on and everybody is having fun. I find the cupcakes Tom made and shove about three in my mouth (I eat when I’m anxious). As the show continues the Drew guy comes up to me and we talk about it. He apologizes and I do the same. He is a nice guy and we talk comedy for a bit and it ends well. This immediately eliminates a lot of my weird feelings and we both get to enjoy the rest of the night. I think he understood where I was coming from, and got that it was a weird thing to try and do. I definitely understand he probably had good intentions, but it was not the time for it while dealing with my anxiety.
Everyone is having ok sets. I think I got the sweet spot because of how tired people were. Some people did well and people were coming and going. I had a blast and would totally do it again. Paige went up and worked some stuff out and it was definitely good to see. He and I talk for a bit and then I say goodbye to everyone. Stella and I talk about my anxiety and the night. This definitely helps. I feel a lot better afterwards and I get all my hugs in with my friends. It was truly a weird, but amazing night. I head home and pass out!
5/6
The open mic at The Southern was cancelled so I decided to do Jkogi. After work I kind of just hang around and relax. I get dinner and watch some tv and really just wind down.
I then head over to Jkogi a little early and get a nice hang in. Jack Parker is there and then Mike Engle shows up. I am trying to write some stuff down and figure it out. Ryan Mather comes in with his wife to chill. Eventually a bunch of comics are there. Moe, Rebecca, Anthony, Ben Oliver, and some others show up. The hang and vibe is pretty chill.
Kate is hosting and she has the comic meeting. I am going first and I am definitely ready to go. She goes up and works out some material about her car accident. She talks about a drawer in her car that has tampons on it. She brings me up next.
I get on stage and riff that it was exciting to find out that Kate doesn’t know that the drawer is called a glove box. This gets a laugh and I work out some material It all goes pretty well until Jacob McFadden comes in drunk and throws me off a bit (he loves doing this). I close super weak but that’s ok. I'd give this set a C-.
I get off and go outside. I decide to watch Jacob’s set. We are all hanging outside. I make a bunch of memes with him and Nate Izqieurdo and Jacob makes a setlist of what he is going to do.
I go in to film and watch him and the runs the hell out of the light. it is five minute sets and he does 10. His set is really funny, and I am glad I get to see some of those jokes one last time. He is absolutely wasted and is stepping on some of his own punchlines and messing up wording, but it was magical. Afterwards I say my goodbyes, and head out.
5/7
I am so excited for today. It is going to be three mics, and it is teacher appreciation week. So after work Kenn, Alex and I go grab some CiCi’s pizza. Which is legit one of my favorite restaurants.
We talk about Endgame, Game of Thrones, our buddy Paige, comedy, and everything in-between. While at dinner Pat Buhse posts that Mojos is cancelled for the night because their computers are down. so now my only spots are going to be Vagabond and Fallout.
I get to Vagabond and go in. There is one other comic and two dudes from DC hanging out. The other comic is Jack Parker and he goes up and does like 10 minutes. After him the two guys ask if I will go up.
I go up and do about 25 minutes of the most offensive stuff I have ever written. It is the kind of stuff they are into, and I haven't done that material in a long time. I don’t know if I worked any of it out, but they really enjoyed it. I felt good about myself while doing it, and realized how I dig those jokes but a lot of that stuff just doesn’t fit in my act anymore. I’d give this set a B- because it is very productive and I don’t think I could have made those two dudes laugh harder with anything else.
One of the dudes goes up and he opens by saying R.Kelly didn’t do it, he is Afghan so he didn’t do 9/11, and that he f**cks really hard with the environment. He does his act and gets a few laughs and has a seat. It was a fun cool time. I had a blast. I grab my stuff and tell Jack I’ll meet him at Fallout.
I get to Fallout and talk to the bartender Shelby. I wait for some other comics to get there, including the host Jesse. The hang is good and Jesse finally shows up. He and I catch up and talk about what shows we have coming up. He tells me about the stuff he is going through with his dog and it is really tough to hear I feel for that dude.
Alex and Beswick show up along with Ben, Jack, Anne, Alida, Mu with Paula, and a lot of other comics. A bunch of newer guys so this is going to be fun.
I am up third. So Jesse warms them up, then Beswick works out his material (he has some really good shit cooking right now), then Jack goes and does a Kegel act out to close out, before I get on stage.
I go up and I can’t get anything going. There is a nice little crowd and I am just eating shit on stage. There is a dude talking right at the stage and I try to address it and it doesn’t work. I have weird energy, and I have no won anyone over. Every bit that has been working lately is just dying on stage. I then do a bit and a girl in the audience goes, “do you have twitter? Because I know I’ve heard that before.” She is basically accusing me of stealing a bit off of Twitter and this sends me in a spiral. I finish my ten minutes and this set sucked. Even though I got laughs I feel like I am a piece of shit and a hack. I’d give this set an F.
The first thing I do is go in the back and talk to Alex. We are busting balls, but I look up the joke online. I find one line of it on Twitter, but it’s an opening line. It is not the joke. I can’t find the joke anywhere, but I am leaning towards dropping it altogether (I eventually just rewrite it). I legit can’t handle that. Being a hack is the last thing I want. I want to be funny and relatable. I don’t want to play to the back of the room, but I also want to be respected.
I am in a horrible headspace, but Brandon, and Alex talk me down.  They tell me to do some breathing exercises, and we all talk about stuff we used to deal with. They bust my balls some more, but I watch Alex’s set (really good. hot one for that crowd) and afterwards I grab my stuff and go. We talk a bit outside and I do some breathing exercises in my car before heading home to pass out!
We did it laydees! Caught up again. I’ve got some fun shows this week, and the rest of the month. Tonight I am in Blackstone near where I grew up. We will see if I am a draw at all in that area (forecast says not even a little bit.) I will be back tomorrow sweetie pies! xoxoxo

Lol even though this is like only a day late I still feel kinda bad. But I also like had to study for a midterm all day yesterday and this morning sooo. Okay I didn’t even think of Mike coming out as his monologue but that could be soo cool and interesting. Because they kinda keep doing the same thing with Mike in a way now (he hangs out with el, he is incredibly loyal to his friends to the point of death (everyone is like that but..), he loses his friends or he’s wary of everyone else, he has bitchy moments, and is like the leader of everyone). Idk I’m kinda just realizing that now that I think with multiple characters they kinda do the same thing in a way. Which is why I actually love the development of Dustin having a crush on max and then being in a cute and loving relationship with Suzy in the next season. Cuz I feel like even though that does involve his romantic relationship I feel like him and suzie just fit so well together and honestly they are so cute. Everyone was hating that never ending story song but I loved that scene! I feel like they needed that bit of funny in there especially since the stakes were higher. Like I got the vibe of Steve freaking out in season 1 type of funny. Like yeah everything is serious and stuff but that just adds to it. And I think that it adds to Dustin’s character especially because he was so hesitant to do it but realized that they couldn’t save the world if he didn’t do it and satisfy suzie. He knew all of his friends would hear it and they were in a dire situation. And then it was so cute how he just got so into it after that like he really enjoyed singing with her. And you can just tell that the two of them had such a fun time with that. Dammit now I really wanna know how they started singing it and how that came to be.
Also I loved everything that you said about Nancy! I have like nothing really more to add except the same thing. Sooo. Yay! I am so glade you agree with me in the el and max thing. Because I see so many people hating that storyline just because of they want to see ‘girl power’. And I guess maybe when we didn’t know how that storyline was going to go it was a little bit worrying and off putting but it’s been a few years now and we know how their friendship goes so idk why anyone still upholds that heavily. And somehow they still hate it even though it’s ‘girl power’. It legit just confused me some of the fandom say they want el and max to be friends but when they actually do it’s just viewed as a forced girl relationship. I love el and max’s relationship/friendship so like I’m kinda biased and get annoyed when people are like ‘but it wasn’t done right’. Idk if that’s just me but also I’m sorry if not articulating correctly I am soo sleepy.
Okay I legit just came up with that reasoning for Steve on the fly. Idk why but my mind just somehow thought of the cheating and what we know about what Steve said with his parents and I was like wait what if he helped out his mother when he was younger. Because also Steve has so much experience with kinda just shrugging topics of and his emotions off. Like he kinda just keeps that to himself and we even saw that with ‘it’s okay Nancy’ which I think even though it’s just three words it’s kinda poetic. The way joe just says it and the way Nancy and Steve look at each other in that moment speaks volumes!! And they’re barely even talking!!! They don’t have that much communication in that scene and yet they’re able to understand what is happening! It’s an amazing scene and gets overlooked with the babysitting line. Also another line that gets not enough attention from Steve is ‘nobody is leaving anyone.’ God it is such a good line! Also the best part is that the lines aren’t even that long and yet it gives you so much insight into Steve.
Okay another paragraph for this because I don’t want to get it confused with that last one. Okay the line you said about Steve not knowing whether Jonathan would actually spread that around!! I never thought of it like that. Like what was he actually going to do with it?!? He kinda just says that he likes looking at the small details and what people are like underneath. But he only tells that to Nancy and not Steve. Which stills brings up the whole Jonathan also violating Steve’s property and just Steve in general. Honestly steve had a right to be pissed about that. (However what he said in alleyway is still awful and I don’t want to make it seem like I think Steve can do no wrong). Like Steve was with his friends and in a very private place. Because also it was a very private together: it was legit just 5 people if you include Steve. Jonathan was not invited at all and Steve was legit just trying to protect himself, Nancy, and his friends. Which something I also kinda find interesting is the fact that the Nicole girl I believe she was a redhead. She saw the photos and just brought it up to Steve (assuming here) but she also didn’t even say anything. But like she goes to Steve and I don’t believe carol or tommy even knew before the confrontation. Idk what I think this means but kinda interesting. Also about the whole how the supposed cheating thing hit hard with Steve in season 1. I honestly feel like they could have developed that so much. Cuz I kinda feel weird with how they treated everything. Like Nancy and Jonathan weren’t cheating so Steve did unforgivable things. And when they do actually cheat on him (knowing that they’re cheating as Nancy even had the most guilty face while also not even looking that guilty at all) Steve has to just take it. And also it is legit when the entire world is resting on their shoulders and they’re all gonna die. And the whole thing blew up on Halloween too. So like Steve would legit have to spend his night feeling so upset (which even though Will’s Halloween was way and much worse I kinda just was like parallel in my head even tho it really ain’t). Anyway sorry if I either rambled or didn’t address some things I am just like so tired but I also wanted to send this and come up with everything sooo.
don’t feel bad!! I totally understand I was studying all last week for midterms and it was rough lol, but I hope you did well :)
yeah you’re right, a lot of the characters do kind of have the same pattern that they follow. but I think with the whole growing up and things changing we’ll get to see new sides of characters and hopefully new storylines that really expand on what they’re capable of. I actually liked the never ending scene too lol! like yeah it was weird and out of left field but it really added some lightness and humor to the scene. like it (and Dustin’s whole thing was suzie) was cute and funny! and I hope they bring it up next season bc if my friend did that shit I would ever let them live it down lol. I also liked dustin’s arc with max and I hope they make them into close friends next season (if they add in romance between those two I will pay the writers a VERY unpleasant visit). because max isn’t that close with mike (and I don’t think he’ll be with the hawkins gang for long anyway), she and lucas are dating and having their on-again-off-again situation (which I have a lot of feelings on how their relationship was treated in s3 but that’s a whole other conversation lol), and el is gone. so max doesn’t really have any like close friends. and we were robbed of a dustin and max friendship in season 3, so I hope they give us that this season.
I think max and el’s friendship was done right and like you said, I don’t really get why people don’t like it? like it doesn’t feel forced, it feels like two girl who haven’t really had close female friendships finding their way together. like el has so much to learn about the world and not all of that can be taught or helped by the boys or hopper. she needs someone like max to tell her that it’s okay to dump your boyfriend if you’re not happy, it okay to be your own person and stuff. and yeah, was all of her advice sound and did it take into account the fact that el has difference circumstances compared to max? no. but like we said max is a child, like she’s only telling el what she knows. and max is still technically the new kid in a sense and there’s a lot she has to get about the party and hawkins as a whole. that’s were el comes and plays an important role in her life. I think they compliment each other nicely and they make a good team.
steve definitely is the kind of person that just shrugs off his own emotions, and I know I sound like a broken record but hope we see more of that next season. like eventually that’s gonna come back and bite him in ass, and he’s gonna have to face all of the shit that he’s been through (along with every other character). but that conversation with nancy really does tell a lot about steve’s character and especially his growth from season one. like yeah, he realized he’s good at watching for the kids, but more importantly that conversation really shows up where his priorities lie, you know? he really does love nancy and he just wants her to be happy, even if that’s not with him. and he knows that she’s struggling with everything with barb. so when she says she’s not leaving mike, like how she “left” barb, steve, in a roundabout kind of way, reassures her that it wasn’t her fault and helping jonathan deal with will doesn’t mean she’s abandoning mike.
yeah the way they made the steve, nancy, jonathan ordeal revolve around steve thinking nancy’s cheating on him but they were really only monster hunting, and they they turned it around and had her actually cheat on steve in season two. like that was so messed up and could have been handled differently. even if they would have had steve and nancy break up for real on halloween instead of making steve still think he could fix it and change her would have been better and wouldn’t have changed much to their plot. because at the end of the day everything that steve thought was happening in s1, happened in s2. and obviously what steve did in retaliation was totally wrong on his end. like I’m not justifying the movie theater thing or what he said to jonathan at all. but it was like...they made it out to be a whole ordeal that was resolved by the end of s1 (even though it was pretty clear that nancy had some sort of change in feelings for jonathan at the end of s1). then they turned around and both threw steve’s feelings under the bus while trying to make him into the very lovable character. and that worked, obviously, he’s a fan favorite now. but I hope they pull him out of his whole relationship slump and give him some kind of promising relationship before the series ends. not that characters need to have some sort of love interest, but I feel like after everything steve deserves that much.

Another day, another SDCC news roundup/response since that’s made up the bulk of my asks.
* Not official Comic Con news, but obviously the development of the day: James Gunn has been fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to Michael Cernovich digging up rape and pedophilia jokes he had made on Twitter in 2008 and 2009 and marshaling a major backlash against him. I don’t think I’m in a place to make a call as to whether Gunn deserves it - dude absolutely had a reputation as a gross edgelord once upon a time, he seems to have cleared up his act and it was a different time in terms of what kind of shit was considered permissible to joke about, but it really was some heinous shit and there aren’t people I trust who know him claiming he’s changed since then - but the alt-right getting this kind of victory in leveraging their weight against companies, and setting this sort of precedent for the power of their voices in the process, is frightening as hell. Because make no mistake, it isn’t because Disney is appalled - they got Johnny Depp on the payroll - but because enough people made a stink, and now the worst people in the world know that’s something in their pocket that can work on a scale like this.
* Marvel Knights is returning as a line under Donny Cates’ supervision, kicking off with a 20 year anniversary oneshot by him and Mike Deodato apparently starring Daredevil, Punisher, Black Panther, and Blade. The contents of the line spinning out of it are unknown, but we know Cates will be involved along with Tini Howard, Matthew Rosenberg, and Vita Ayala. It’s an interesting prospect and I’m down for Cates, so I’m sure I’ll check out at least some of what spins out of this.
* With some unspecified legals hurdles cleared Miracleman is coming back once and for all in 2019, starting with reprinting those first two issues of The Silver Age and then finally going into Gaiman and Buckingham’s new issues wrapping up Silver Age and concluding the epic with The Dark Age. Not much to say, this is just really good news. Hopefully we get Apocrypha as well.
* Of all the rumors out in the ether, the oddest and most boring of the bunch has come true: Peter Tomasi is taking over Detective Comics with #994 in the runup to #1000 next year, with Doug Mahnke in tow. I guess we at least know James Tynion IV must have left of his own volition rather than being sidelined for a major new thing, because Tomasi ain’t that. This whole thing is just a big question mark, because...just, why? But at least it’ll look good.
* Heroes In Crisis is going to have Mitch Gerads handle a couple issues - while Clay Mann’s going to continue to do the big story, Gerads will do material focusing on individual heroes and more of the day-to-day stuff of Sanctuary as a facility. Obviously there’s only so much space for him to work with in a 7-issue mini, so very curious how much of the book will be his and how his segments will be their own thing while remaining a critical part of the whole.
* Scott Snyder talked more about Justice League, confirming what we all knew in that it’ll lead to an event comic in 2019, and revealing that Francis Manapul will be drawing the next Aquaman/Wonder Woman-centric arc (presumably Jorge Jimenez is coming back for the Superman-centric story after that, since Snyder’s already talked about his involvement in it on Twitter); he also mentioned the other Justice League-mirror Dark Knights will be returning. Perhaps most interesting though was this anecdote, picked up by Newsarama:  “Snyder said Grant Morrison told him he should have Superman fly the entire multiverse to another location, 'and the best thing would be waiting there.' Snyder asked what was there, and Morrison said 'Marvel!' Morrison (perhaps jokingly?) pitched that Snyder should have Superman fly DC to the Marvel Universe.” Obviously the latter half is a goof, but sans context and being able to actually hear Snyder’s voice it’s hard to tell if this is just a hilarious story of Morrison tossing around great weird ideas, or if this is actually a legit tease for an amazing Superman moment down the line given the multiverse is at stake with the long-term plot of the book.
* Speaking of which, forgot to mention in my initial reaction to The Green Lantern yesterday - it’s also weird that Morrison’s doing something non-apocalyptic with Hal, because the IMMEDIATE assumption when Justice League #1 revealed that he had learned about the multiverse dying offscreen was that that was something Morrison was going to be dealing with in tandem with Justice League. You’d think that’d be Hal’s top priority in his own book at the moment, and given Morrison and Snyder are pretty tight at the moment, I have to imagine that’s something Morrison will acknowledge one way or another.
* Snyder will also be doing a 6-issue Batman Who Laughs miniseries with Jock spinning out of Justice League, where he goes about some mission with another Dark Multiverse Batman, one who grabbed Joe Chill’s gun in the alley and shot him, going on to basically be Bat-Punisher. If this were by anyone but Snyder it would be a hard pass with how much I hated the Batman Who Laughs oneshot, but I’m curious to see him do this bizarro take on his favorite comics mythology and maybe flesh out the concept into something as interesting as its potential. Hopefully he’ll get to show some of the interesting Dark Knights ideas he discussed having considered for Metal in interviews, such as a Batman made up of the iconography of all his villains, or a Bruce Wayne raised in Arkham Asylum when he cracked after his parents’ deaths who somehow mystically merged with it.
* Finally, we got the first trailer for Glass. I loved Unbreakable, never saw and never intend to see Split, and Shyamalan’s reputation precedes him (I’ve only seen the one film in his oevure, and while Split picked up solid reviews, that was apparently written around the same time as Unbreakable, whereas I believe this is all modern), so not sure whether I’ll be checking it out. Well, I mean, I will, but I don’t know if that’ll be opening weekend or in five years on Netflix.

Some time ago, I wrote about the dangers of taking a snippet of video or a drill you don't know out of context and evaluating the effectiveness of what you're seeing.
You can read it here:  Context is Everything
There's been some videos going around in the martial arts world online that makes me think we really need to revisit this topic. Look, there's loads of video out there of folks doing martial arts that are obviously... um... problematic. PLENTY.  Empty Force. Yellow Bamboo. Ninjers. You know what I mean.
Sometimes, we just don't understand the context and are misinterpreting what we are seeing. Often this is a demo. That is, what you're seeing is not intended to be something you're really proposing to do in a fight. It's more of a demonstration of athletic skill. I wrote this to help you tell the difference: 5 Ways to Tell if You're Watching a Demonstration (Versus an Actual Fight}. There's also lots of video out there of martial arts drills where they are working a specific skill or concept that when taken out of context looks silly or useless but it isn't impractical in practice. These videos make the Martial Arts online community and people point and guffaw at them.  I've done it myself! We have plenty of FMA drills out there that look like a waste of time. Here, take this one:
I chose this one because it's actually a sinawali pattern I've really fallen in love with lately and I've been playing it a lot.  Now, to look at it, what do you think the combative applications are?  Is what you see in this video useless in a fight? I mean, nobody's going to walk up to you with two sticks, challenge you to a fight, and the two of you start doing sinawali. It just doesn't happen.
Unless, of course, you're the Green Arrow.  Then all bets are off.  By the way, that's Double Sinawali high (all high strikes), aka "Heaven Six". We teach it to yellow belts.
So if nobody fights that way, why do we do sinawali drills? What is the point of training a scenario that literally will never happen in a million years?
Because sinawali is a crazy-efficient way to train a lot of different concepts and attributes that are useful in a fight. These include:
Targeting
Chambering
Proper extension of the weapon
Working both left and right hands (if you're doing the double stick version - if you're doing single hand, we get to practice switching hands in flow, for one)
Footwork
Range
Timing
Learning to think ahead a little bit
Learning to see high and low angled strikes and some built-in ways to respond
Spotting holes and places to interrupt
Developing the habit of not watching the weapon, but watching the person
Combination striking
There is a lot going on there that if you didn't know better, you'd think we're just playing pattycake with sticks for no good reason. I'm certain there's people in the world who see us doing this and laugh and say what a waste of time sinawali is.
And... they're wrong. WRONG.
Is there anything in that the list I wrote above of what we learn in playing sinawali useless in a fight?  You don't need to learn how to target properly, manage range, not to have good timing when dealing with an attack and in counter-attacking in order to fight well?
Really?
I asked my friend and BJJ player Mike Mahaffey if he knew of some drills in BJJ that look weird or silly to an outsider.  He offered me this video:
He tells me that not everyone plays this in BJJ and that to outsiders it looks a little weird. To me, it looks like somebody's trying to do a strange form of yoga.  But then he says this video explains the usefulness:
If you don't know BJJ, and you don't understand the context of the first video (the one with the solo drill), you might scoff and laugh and claim that drill is utterly useless in a fight. Until somebody who's trained this well uses it on you and kicks your ass.
Many martial arts styles have drills of this nature.  Drills to work a specific concept, or to train a specific attribute, or to deal with a specific isolated situation, or to work on something repeatedly that is outside of the typical "drunk comes at you with a haymaker in a bar" scenario.
If people aren't just sharing the video and pointing and laughing, they'll often look at a drill and say, "Yeah, but what if it's a completely different attack?  WHAT THEN?"
Wait, wait, you mean, what if it's a different attack than what I'm actually training in this very moment?
Well, gee, smart guy, what if it's three guys and not just one? What if they have a gun instead of a knife, stick, or sword? What if he's actually a real-life ninja and he's got ninja throwing stars?  What if we're just living in the Matrix and he's downloaded Kung Fu in an instant? What if a meteor falls out of the sky and squishes me?  What if aliens invade?  WHAT IF THE SUN EXPLODES?!?!  What then?!?!?
Because we only have that single drill, and we couldn't possibly have a ton of other drills that include a variety of scenarios and situations.*
Good job, sport!  Give yourself a gold star today!
As I said above, I'm guilty of doing this stuff myself. I'm not innocent here, and I need to do a better job of understanding the context before I giggle and share that latest "what the hell is going on here" video online.
I think you should give it a shot, too.
So what drills do you do that to outsiders look silly or useless? Did you ever change your mind about a drill that you thought was silly, but after you learned context, decided it was legit after all?  Do you have a good drill for that sun exploding thing?  Let me know in the comments!
* Regarding the meteor strike thing, I'd just step off the line, of course. Duh.

Clear-Cut Advice When Looking At Contractor License Bonds Discussed
License bonds and permit bonds are essentials needed by a government body. The license and permit bonds help the government body to prove that a particular party or business will follow all the important regulations set by the government with regard to procedures. Every professional in every occupation has to get the bonds before beginning their business. These bonds provide the government a guarantee that all governing rules set related to their business or profession is effectively adhered to. Should a bondholder fail to follow the laws and regulations, it becomes less difficult for the government’s judicial body to identify him or her. Acquiring these bonds is therefore necessary for any professional or company who wants to begin a company. On this article, we help explain some facts about license and permit bonds, including how to get a permit bond.
Other Kinds of Bonds
License And Permit Bonds
The most common type of bond is the license and permit surety bond. Bonds are essential factors that a lot of specialists or businesses need to keep in mind before their organizations. Before any company or professional starts their operation, it is essential to get a license to operate first. Before beginning your operation, it’s important to understand first the demands of the government related to your business or profession. The license to operate doesn’t just approved your business or professional operation, but also clarifies the requirements that must be followed with regards to your operation. These bonds explain all the governing rules that you need to comply with, helping you avoid the considerable consequences that you could face when you violate them. With the aid of a license and surety bond, it will be less difficult for you to acquire an authority to operate in Kansas. One major illustration of a license and permit bond is the contractor license bond.
Performance Bond
Having a performance bond is essential in order to get a assured, quality assured infrastructure project. When venturing into a construction project, it is only sensible to ensure that you’ll get the exact results that you will need from a trustworthy contractor. The construction will be successful in a lot of cases because of the indemnity of a performance bond. If the project is not completed, however, you’re still assured to obtain compensated for a particular percentage of the project cost and have another contractor to carry on the project. The bond defines the amount of compensation that you will need.
Importance Of License And Permit Bonds
Do you know the benefits of obtaining a license and permit bonds when interesting a specialist or company to a specific project?
Flawless Systematic Work
Based on the requirements of the government, there are certain rules and methods that must be followed in doing a systematic work. Let us take for instance a construction project, the systematic flow of processes are identified in the license bonds. The contractor who is engaged to this operation must then follow this system.
Insurance
Permit bonds serve as an insurance to customers who involved specialized help. It means that the consumer will be paid out for a particular percentage of the project should it fail.
