i honestly have to say I’m so fucking grateful because fob is working so hard to make every show a unique experience and every show, they play the song that means something to someone, and they put so much EFFORT into it. there’s rehearsing that goes into playing these songs, the songs they haven’t played in YEARS- or, maybe never before. each person leaves feeling special and each show is different and it makes me so happy. I mean, who else can say they saw 27, Winona, and Baby in one concert?? only me and the people who went to jiffy lube on july 19th. do you see what I mean?? they’re trying so hard to make every show feel unique and they’re achieving it. I remember seeing a post a while back about how the best way to show tragedy is through showing the light spots in the darkness, to show that things could have been good--I saw that, and I thought that this scene here, at Bloom Park with Mizuki, is the perfect example of this.

At this point you may or may not know that Mizuki was abused. But the way she talks about her family’s happiness is so completely shaped by her awful experiences. You might not be seeing how awful it is, but you can tell that something was off about her family by the way she talks about Renju’s pictures coming out blurry, and Mizuki then goes “but Mom just laughed!” in awe, as if this is so unexpected.

This happiness, to Mizuki, was too good to be true. She lived a life of being afraid of Shoko’s outbursts, of being called abnormal, and we see this DIRECTLY AFTER, but through just this conversation, you can see why Mizuki thinks she had to be a good girl, why she blamed herself, how she expected sadness and wanted to hold onto those happy memories. She doesn’t want to taint the one happy thing she had with her blood family.

And I think the placement of this scene is EVERYTHING. You already know that those memories have been tainted. You get to see right after where this all comes from, further making it hurt because THIS IS THE REVEAL for why Date has been taking care of Mizuki. Because he KNOWS. Date helped Mizuki, and this is why they are as they are. You don’t learn it right away, you’ve already grown attached to them as characters, and then you learn that while Date saved Mizuki, she still had some attachment to her parents!!! That’s tragic, and it HURTS!!!

Mizuki deserves so much. She has Date, her other father, to tell her that none of it was her fault, and that’s what matters--but she’s still in pain.
