Hey no offense!! But there is an issue with hcing a racial oppressor who is canonically such, as a part of a marginalized group he would oppress irl. Cullen is a creep to the fem mages in dao, going as far as imagining the individual who he was made to watch over (reminds me of that nazi/jewish person in concentration camp fanfic) as the whole desire demon tricking him *again* Cullen is uh... well he is apart of a group that can be considered by some as comparative to nazi-ism, white superiority... the police.... etc Hcing him as such is a bit... obtuse when he is in fact someone who is a horrible person towards these racial groups and never apologizes with both his writing and character blaming it on addiction.

as a poc myself, I understand taking characters and hcing them as ur race is really important! But in this case it seems exceptionally... well it sounds chronically online, but it's a bit shitty

theres a difference between a noncanon trans character who isnt transphobic being hced as trans, and a character being hced as a race he would be prejudiced against (even the characters coded in game as such he's racist against. but thats also racist writing)

i do see you’re well meaning and normal in sending this ask so i hope you take my reply in kind but i’m no good at this, i try to respond formally and courteously and i understand it kinda makes me sound like a cunt tbh … anyway i want to preface the point of my post which was about literacy around media terminology and not about the ethics or lack thereof around headcanons

so… yeah! you’re right. nothing you’ve said is wrong per se, cullen sucks. and you are completely right that it’s not a great thing to do, that it’s weird and just, whatever, in principle i agree with you and have never thought otherwise

but there’s two important caveats to this

first is that, whatever anyone thinks about that - including you and me - cullen was and remains a very beloved video game guy. i don’t get it, but whatever floats your boat, there’s a tonne of characters i love that are outright intentionally written as evil, which cullen is not. the narrative of dragon age is not intended for you to hate cullen, although your individual character or you may well do. i assume this person probably loved cullen. that doesn’t make it inherently okay, though, so bear with me

i _personally_ don’t believe it’s up to me, to comment on the ethics of an individual person making up headcanons about an individual character that reflects their marginalisation. if a muslim person (and i can’t comment the Facts because i haven’t seen the source info, but apparently the person in question was muslim) wants to headcanon their favourite blorbo as muslim, i’m simply not going to tell them not to do it.

this goes for anyone’s headcanon of a similar nature, which is not in fact about if the character is bad or good or predetermined by ethics. i just don’t believe in telling people that they can’t picture a character a certain way, most especially when that way aligns with their own life. to follow along with your example, if a trans person wanted to headcanon a transphobic (or otherwise real-life type of horrible) character as trans, it’s just not really in my purview to stop them. i’m also trans! and it’s unpleasant or even outright feels bad, but it doesn’t do any lasting harm, because it’s one persons headcanon, it doesn’t form part of the text, and for my own joy i could also block that person.

it’s genuinely fine to disagree with this, but this is the way i choose to operate online, which is that some idiot with a bad headcanon in some corner of the internet is pretty easy to ignore. again, not disputing the headcanon is bad. i’m just not going to argue with the person who had it.

I personally think the reason Archie's character is so appealing to analyze is that, despite being under-developed, hes such a genuinely charming character with a lot of potential. Like he has the makings to be the stereotypical "jock boyfriend" character but instead the show has built up enough evidence that he's a funny, talented, sweet guy, with depth that gives him the potential to be relatable to a lot of different people and make him a great chara. At least thats my opinion

big agree big agree like archie doesn’t really present as a super in depth character, but depth IS there if you honestly wanna dissect it past face value. i’m a firm believer some of his storyarcs are the most compelling of the entire show if you look for it. they usually strike the perfect balance of inner conflict reflected in a constant outer one as well, and it parallels the entire town at times, but they’re usually always cohesive with one another.

in season one, his struggle between football and construction and music can clearly physically represent his struggle between the archie we honestly never got to see but know was there based on how in literally episode one, fred mentions that a mere three months previous, archie was gung ho for inheriting the company, as well as taking into account jughead’s remarks of the kind of person archie used to be, and the archie that apparently isn’t anymore. and it all stemmed from what happened that summer, whether it be mrs grundy butting into his life or jason blossom’s disappearance, it’s the summer the corruption seemed to first trickle in. same with his struggle with relationships, romantic and platonic (starting off with mrs grundy unfortunately, but jughead too, and betty, veronica, reggie, valerie, even cheryl) littered throughout all of the first season. both his struggle between hobbies and his struggles with people can easily parallel the state of the town as well!! the whole point of season one and the beginning of season two at least was that the town was turning a new leaf, though obviously in a negative way. things were changing and the perfect small town appeal was losing purchase to the town where fathers killed their own sons, but it was an ongoing struggle to be better, one that leads to betty’s speech at the jubilee in the finale. yet structurally, archie’s pretty early on established as a support character. he wants to help his friends, but feels like he can’t. he wants to do the right thing, but feels like he can’t. yet despite all his shortcomings, he’s the kind of person that represents the good parts of riverdale, whether it be in the quaint desire to simply write songs and sing them, or to give jughead a place to live, or help veronica as she struggles with her father’s looming shadow, or cheryl, throughout but especially in the finale too, when he breaks his own hand to save her life.

and season two !!! fucks me up !! after betty’s speech at the jubilee, declaring the town needed to step up before the corruption won, a masked man shoots archie’s dad right in front of him in the diner that’s pretty consistently a beacon of the perfect small town appeal. and just like that, the small town boy who so easily represented the little things that make up a good person, a good town, the little gestures of just trying to look out for each other, has his entire world shattered right in front of him by the town’s corruption finally spilling over. and he becomes this shell of himself, one that’s trigger happy and violent and gung ho for a private prison and mob boss family, subverting his representation of all the good parts of riverdale to all the bad ones, BUT !!! it’s ironically because of the corruption of riverdale that archie becomes this way; because he believes the town is too corrupted for simply housing a homeless kid, helping a friend, breaking his hand to save someone’s life, to undo it all. because the person who believed that couldn’t stop his own dad from being shot right beside him when he was right there to step in, so it’s clearly not enough, not anymore. he’s not enough, so he needs red circles and dark circles and mob bosses and handguns because those are the only things that are stopping people from shooting dads in diners. except they’re not !!! because then his dad gets shot right in front of him again anyway in the finale, despite thinking all his actions since the first time around, all his preparing, all this changing from the kid who let it happen in the first place, could prevent it, but it happens again just the same, and he’s just as powerless to stop it. but even before that punchline, you have his dad, the person he’s corrupting himself for !! parading for the exact opposite of the corruption and external conflict’s side archie’s taken, subverting the entire inner conflict BEAUTIFULLY !!!! HELLLOOO$?@@> archie’s dad becomes the pinnacle of everything good in riverdale while archie ironically sides AGAINST him with hiram (the physical representation of riverdale’s corruption along with the black hood, despite presenting itself as the solution to it) BECAUSE the corruption was enough to almost steal that from them all with a simple bullet to the chest. he lost faith goodness alone could mean anything when it couldn’t save his dad, the epitome of good in his mind and honestly most of riverdale's too, even those who didn’t agree with him politically. he started to believe power is the only thing that could stop the corruption, because that’s what he felt like he was lacking when it almost killed his dad. and, you guessed it, the thing that finally has archie backing away from all his moral bungee jumping is hiram coming between him and his dad !!!!!!!!HEELEOO

ANYWAYS i could go on because season three fucks me up too but this got REALLY long really fast i’m so sorry omg i rly just

listen riverdale’s writing is shit and i do not have any faith that they even did all of this intentionally but there is SOME legitimately good writing hidden in all the bullshit and it CONSISTENTLY follows archie, and everything above is just from a story crafting perspective!! not including the less structurally important but still thematically consistent struggles throughout!!! no i will not be taking criticism

some nadja meta bc i’ve been meaning to write this out for awhile now:

if we take laszlo’s description of his turning at face value, i think it’s obvious that nadja has a type when it comes to humans that she turns. mainly, i see it as her trying to take agency over what she could not as a human. we know that nadja grew up in a large family w/ multiple siblings & that her mother was killed by a bear, assumedly when nadja was quite young. she also grew up poor on an island that was hard-hit by misfortune (most likely due to nandor invading nadja’s village 200 yrs beforehand), making it a miserable place to live. in the wwdits shorts on the fx network yt channel, we learn that nadja was turned by a vampire pretending to be a snake--it can be assumed that she wasn’t aware of vampires up to this point.

this is all to say that nadja’s human life was miserable. but when she became a vampire, she gained power and agency over her life that she did not have as a poor girl from a ransacked village. so who does nadja gravitate towards? humans who are down on their luck. she turns laszlo because she sees something beyond the misery and despair, beyond the sadness that laszlo admits permeated his life before nadja (laszlo: “when i was a human man, i had rosy cheeks, yet between those cheeks, there was never a smile.” / “she [nadja] opened a window to my soul & let the darkness in.”). my personal headcanon is that laszlo, having just been infected w/ the plague, was rather depressed abt his lot in life. he may also have been born to a wealthy family (as the window to his room was on the 3rd floor, he makes mentions to having had a university education, & also seems to be classically trained in a wide number of instruments), but was likely misunderstood and/or treated like the black sheep of the family. as a vampire, laszlo does what he pleases, never hides his personality, & is just, overall, a very jovial person with a touch of dark humor (as expected, bc, y’know, he is a vampire).

similarly, jenna was being bullied by those that she considered her friends & nadja gave her the gift of vampirism to give her agency in her life. as a vampire, jenna has learned to stand up for herself & now has a power that separates her from other vampires in its rarity. in other words, jenna is standing out for the first time in her life & is finally being noticed by others. after spending so long blending in, being forgotten, being a soft, quiet person, jenna is finally getting the chance to be who she wants to be without worrying abt what other people may think.

furthermore, i love that it seems like nadja has an innate urge to make a family/coven for herself. i’m a sucker for the found family trope which is tbh one of the reasons why i love wwdits--the staten island crew really should all hate each other, & sometimes they genuinely do, but they’re also a lowkey ride-or-die group. even if they may grumble abt it, when push comes to shove, they all do show up for each other in different ways. & of all the vampires in the show, nadja seems closest to her progeny. laszlo being her husband, of course, & then her relationship w/ jenna, which reminded me personally of an older sister mentoring a younger sibling (but i do realize some ppl ship them together, so whatever dynamic floats ur boat!). i love that nadja so readily shows her love for others & that she isn’t afraid to take responsibility over her progeny (unlike, say, nandor, who turned benjy into a vampire & then dumped him at a gas station).

Oh yeah he can switch between the two, it wouldn't be voluntary but over time he'd probably figure out a way to trigger it himself. And yeah it'd probably be quite quick but still extremely painful >:3 I imagine that his tummy mouth would stretch open and the guzzlord form kinda bursts out from there sending lots of blood and bits and pieces of his human form splattering everywhere (only because the alternatives would probably look like something out of a weird fetish thing but I mean if you like that then whatever floats ur boat) so yeah. Very painful and traumatizing but after wards he'd be his old self...just in the form of a giant squishy dragon perfect for hugs in dire need of comfort :> (I wrote it out in a fic if you'd like to read a slightly more detailed account of how it'd feel too)Ive been terrified of sharing this au tbh so thank you for showing an interest!

Dull, dull , dull, everything is boring and its 2:30am and I just had a Bad Day™ and all I know is that 1) my eyes burn like heck when I get ultra tired, and 2) I'm bored out of my mind with my life, how do I become reinvigorated?? Thank

ooooooh my gosh good question bc the last two days i have slept for 10 hours and spent the entire day too heavy and tired to move and taken 3 hour naps in the middle of the day. 0/10 recommend. i hate it. so this is actually really on my mind right now.

okie dokie

push urself i know ur super tired n ur body feels like shit n ur mind is fairly positive u cannot move a muscle but guess what u probably can. u can moan if u want but get up!! take a shower. if that’s all ur up for, congrats u took a shower. go for a walk around the block. start small, work up throughout the day. tbh just going to the kitchen and stretching and doing fun yoga poses (i like being upside down, haha) while my tea water boils helps.

enjoy ur skincare. pay attention to the way it smells and feels. lov it.

drink water. a lot of water. get one of big 32+ oz bottles and drink 2+ a day. just not more than 2 litres in 2 hours, pro tip.

music. curate your playlist wisely.

makeout/fuck someone idk

get a dating app to boost ur ego even if u ghost everyone

workout. energy breeds energy / endorphins. listen even if u just do like 4 x 12 of bicep curls. do tiny workouts if that’s what u need rn.

to go with that, have some goals in mind. have some physical goals and spend a lot of your down, tired time researching. for me, this means i spend a lot of time watching youtube videos about lifting and gym workouts. it’s motivating, educational, and productive, even if im just lying paralyzed on my mattress. but not all these goals need to be physical!! set a lot of small, achievable goals so you’ll see results. make them around what you like to do or want to get done. ex, crochet a cowl for fall with really chunky yarn and a big hook. finish a book. write and edit a song/poem/blogpost a week. start a new bible study, or an online class or whatever. teach yourself norwegian.

eat carrots. carrots are great. lol.

listen to podcasts they’re great idk

get out of the house. idk why, but i’m always more productive if i set aside an afternoon week to go to a coffee shop. i try to plan what to do and pack for accordingly. go to a park, lake, library, store, cafe, whatever floats your boat.

play tourist in your city. plan out where you’d take a long distance friend, and then go.

try something new. go rock climbing. go thrifting. pick up the trombone. i dunno. look at clubs at your school? now is a good time bc it gets you like… like when dog perk their ears. but you dont have to actually try them, but you can trick yourself into thinking that you actually have so many opportunities. a new fandom. get excited. make a new fanblog.

make a list of realistic things you want to do with your life. mine includes gym+yoga 4x a week, do an open mic, get my yoga teaching training and start teaching, take my mom to paris and rome, publish a book of poetry, get a dog, in no particular order.

Defending it bc Snape was "upset" and "no filter" and too fucking stupid to listen to 5 people telling him the same thing, even worse. snape isn’t “too stupid” to listen to five people. two people are kids who literally treated him like shit for years and he has pretty first-hand evidence of how likely it is that sirius black could be a murderer so i’m hardly surprised he doesn’t listen to them. the others are all thirteen year olds, dude. of course snape isn’t going to listen to them.

uh the dursleys regularly tell harry that he’s going to end up like his trash (dead) parents so..... whatever u need to tell urself to float ur boat anon i guess? and no umbridge doesnt actually tell him that hes going to die like his parents.... instead she just plain tortures him and tries to force him to take truth potions. but sure, snape’s mean comments are definitely as bad. right. okay.

dude when did i say that it was okay for snape to talk to harry like that? explaining what i think he’s saying and why he’s saying it doesnt automatically mean that i think that’s the proper way to talk to a child. i just didn’t think it was bad enough to warrant the idea that snape (and snape alone) traumatized harry sooooo much with that comment. i mean yeah, it’s a bad thing to say. but the original anon (who is probably you tbh) was misreading it to make it seem a lot worse than it actually was.
