#i never played fire emblem but chrom got me feeling something
Note
So hey the Hero-King Marth that Ylisseans claim is from Altea which is in modern Northern Plegia (right under the Feroxi border wall). Given this, can you imagine the political strife and potential religious conflicts happening over this? Because Marth is 100% the ancestor of the Ylissean Royal Family, but historical Altea is Plegian ground. How hard would the Hierophant play with this if allowed?
I am delighted to be asked this because I think about this little detail all the time. Because Chrom and the Shepherds do go to the location corresponding to historical Altea. It's where Chrom defeats Gangrel and ends the war between Ylisse and Plegia. We know Chrom isn't exactly in high spirits ("We've won... Somehow I don't feel like celebrating.") and though the game itself never brings it up, I can't help but wonder how much the location itself contributes to everything weighing on him.
This location is also listed as "Border Wastes." It's a wasteland, and Marth's Altea definitely was not. Again, the game itself doesn't say a word about it, but... Is it not easy to imagine how it might have got that way? Somehow I doubt the exalted line, proudly descended from the Hero King, WANTED to give Altea to Plegia or was ever satisfied with Plegia ruling it. Awakening thematically grapples with cycles of violence, and though this geographical detail is so minor and is never directly addressed in the text, the environmental storytelling seems to me to speak volumes. I think Plegia and Ylisse have been mad about this for as long as they've both existed.
And the thing is, I can easily imagine Plegians taking pride in holding this land, too? Marth is not just special to the Halidom of Ylisse. He is a hero to the entire continent. He saved EVERYONE. "Marth was Plegian" is not exactly accurate, because Plegia would not exist until a thousand years after him, but I bet there are plenty of Plegians running around whose features resemble Marth's as much as Chrom and Lissa and Emmeryn's do.
(Remember, Ferox suspects Chrom of being an imposter when he first arrives at their border, and Cynthia's paralogue involves a guy successfully impersonating Chrom. I don't think you can tell just by looking at him that he's not Just Some Guy, and specifically, you can't tell that he's not Just Some Plegian Guy, either.)
It's interesting to think about what if anything Grima would do with this... Grima was after Marth's time, but that doesn't mean they can't put words and ideals in his mouth just as well as any other political figure.
Moving more deeply into pure headcanon territory... As you may be aware, I think Grima ate the earth dragons that Marth sealed at the Dragon's Table, and honestly if they did, I can imagine them twisting that act to be like.... Obviously what Marth Would Have Wanted, because you see, he didn't have the power to do anything more at the time, but OF COURSE he wouldn't have wanted the beloved people of his precious continent to have to fight the earth dragons again. The Fire Emblem can't do enough. Let Grima eat the dragons for you. (Meanwhile, you've got the First Exalt, actual descendant of Marth, arguing that um, HE is right there, totally ready willing and able to seal those dragons right back up, guys come on we KNOW this will work. Yes I do like to think of this as a reverse "let Chrom deal the final blow?" situation. One in which Grima refused to back down.)
So in that regard, I don't know, I feel like "Grima is the Hero King's true successor (in spirit)" is something that at least some people could actually believe. That would be fun to work with. It's a little hard to see how to get from there to "and now Grima destroys the world because humans are bad" but... given how Plegians value loyalty, it might honestly be enough for some people simply to say "we side with Grima no matter what because we always have before and we aren't filthy traitors."

How did you get into Fire Emblem? Someone mentioned to me that your units could perma-die and I was on board immediately.
What Fire Emblem games have you played? All of them
First Fire Emblem game: Awakening, followed by the incorrect decision to play Shadow Dragon (1990)
Favorite Fire Emblem game: Shadows of Valentia for the quality, Gaiden for the nostalgia
Any Fire Emblem crushes? Down bad for Tharja when I played Awakening
If you’ve played the following games, who was your first S support? - Awakening: Chrom (against my will) - Fates: Hinata - Three Houses: Edelgard - Engage: None
Favorite Fire Emblem class: Varies by game, I do like bows and mages though
If you were a Fire Emblem character, what would be your class? High res low speed dark mage
If you were a Three Houses character, what would be your affiliation? Black Eagles
If you were an Engage character, which Emblem would you Engage with? Maybe Lyn or Leif
How did you find TOA? Planted my flag in the earth and said Here Be TOA
Current TOA muses: Julius & Griss
Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? Hubert. Bringing him back would be dependent on circumstances and if I ever replayed 3H
Have you had any other TOA muses? Other than Hubert, Aelfric, Pelleas, Berkut, Salem, Fáfnir, Limstella, and Jeritza
Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? It used to be serious knightly types, but I think since TOA, I've gravitated more toward characters who are confrontational or can stir up the status quo.
What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? Past tense!! Past tense!!! I usually try to match my partner so I almost never get to write in past tense these days, but my writing comes so much more easily in past tense. I also enjoy writing grand, sweeping scenes and descriptions of places/things.
Favorite TOA-related memory: Team Justice during Lock & Key is still my favorite event experience to this day.
Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day in TOA that you’d like to share? Kishuna still lurks somewhere in the back of my mind, but the time hasn't been right. Ronan as well

Oh boy, this is about to be a blast from the past. Thanks @skarabrae-stone for the tag!
Rules: Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass this onto other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
So I only recently started writing again, meaning I've only got 2 works that are from the last decade, but honestly I'm still very fond of those older ones; they do an excellent job at being what they are.
Doing the no pressure tags above the cut because I don't know if that messes them up: @stonemaskedtaliesin, @zyrafowe-sny, and @firecoloredwater, plus anyone else who sees this and has written something! Hyping yourself up is good practice!
Columbo: Turnabout's Fair Play | 19k (Incomplete) | T | Columbo x Ace Attorney set between AA3 and AA4
Summary:
Technically speaking, Mr. Wright, this isn't my usual beat. But Detective Gumshoe - you know Dick, right? - I owed him a favor, see? And it had been a slow week, so I figured I'd look around, see if I could give the guy a hand. Real stand-up guy, he is, we could use more like him. And anyway, I know you're a real busy guy Mr. Wright, so I'll make this real quick, get out of your hair. I know you and he were real good friends, so I'm sure this is a difficult time for you. Oh, uh, just one more thing Mr. Wright. Why were the two of you such good friends again?
As I say in the dedication, this is the idea that helped me break a very, very long dry spell, so it has to take the top spot for that if nothing else. @stonemaskedtaliesin had introduced me to Ace Attorney, I had introduced them to Columbo, and at some point they went looking to see if there were any crossovers and were disappointed to find none. They come tell me this in discord and I, like a fool, say:
"Well, actually, it makes sense there aren't any. I mean, they're kind of contradictory worldviews. The whole point of Columbo is that he always gets the right guy, and the whole point of Ace Attorney is that the police never get the right guy."
Fortunately for all of us, I continued:
"I mean, for it to even work you'd need some kind of convoluted setup - maybe that would stop the AA police from just arresting someone immediately. And who would be the killer anyway? Well, ok, there's an option there, but who should they murder? Maya? That'd be mean, but that's the obvious choice. Hmm...nobody likes him, I could murder him, but how--oh."
And at that point I stopped talking because the end of this story materialized in my brain and I wanted to make sure it was a surprise. Spoiler culture may be overblown, but murder mysteries are an exception, I feel.
Anyways, if you're a fan of either series, enjoy gen fic, like seeing characters get what they deserve, or just want to see Columbo at an anime convention, this is the fic for you! From a writing standpoint, it's been really fun to experiment with a very limited POV, to try to mimic the feel of a television camera. And of course, Columbo's dialogue is a joy to write. (As you'll see later, dialogue is one of my strengths)
Song of the Peregrine [Podfic] | OG fic is 39k (Incomplete) | T | Chrom/F!Robin but honestly it's mostly gen | Kid Icarus Uprising x Fire Emblem Awakening
Summary:
There were reports of something in the skies of eastern Ylisse. Something with wings as black as pitch and eyes as red as rubies. Dark Pit has no clue where he's managed to land himself, but it turns out that Pit and Palutena don't have a monopoly on annoying. He can leave these humans anytime he wants, and he will. Soon. Any day now. If the Shepherds have it their way, that day won't come any time soon. (In which Dark Pit ends up joining the Shepherds, and the world tilts.)
The original fic is @stonemaskedtaliesin's, but I like to consider myself its honorary godparent. We've spent a lot of time worldbuilding for it, and it's so good you guys. It's going to be amazing. There are long term plans.
I started the podfic because I wanted to listen to it as I fell asleep. The audio quality is definitely shakier in the first couple chapters as I figure things out, but it's been really fun learning new skills and doing lots of fun silly voices.
...still need to finish editing chapter 5.
Anyway, blanket recommendation to go read this if you know anything about Kid Icarus (Fire Emblem is a bonus but not necessary, iit's pretty well-explained in-story) and if you like podfic, hey! You're in luck! Fun fact: this is the only Awakening podfic as of right now. Yes I'm also surprised. Maybe if I ever finish this one I'll set out to try and change that. goat milk and oats Grima would be so much fun to voice.
Warrior Cats Smoofs | 8.5k | G | Gen | Warrior Cats
Okay I'm kind of cheating here but that's going to be a theme for these last few answers. I wrote these over a decade ago with my best friend at the time. She had internet, I didn't, so we had a joint account on the Warrior Cats Wiki and the Warriors Fanfiction Wiki, which are both Fandom now I believe. I archived them to AO3 because of that, and because even years later they would occasionally get a new comment from someone who really enjoyed reading them. And, as I said, I'm still very fond of them. My handle on most of the internet still comes from these stories and that account. They are simple, silly, dialogue and stage directions only parodies, and they were a blast to write. I still remember the melody we came up with for the ending jingle. I'm pretty sure these guys (plus the playwriting class I took) are a big part of why I tend to be very dialogue-heavy. I like fun purple-prosy descriptions, but sometimes a few spoken words can convey a whole lot of actions. Show Don't Tell taken to the extreme, I guess.
I'm pretty sure The Library was our most popular one back in the day (to the point we made a sequel)! The Auction was the first (though doesn't hold up quite as well...lol they're all 15 years old anyway). I'm very fond of Christmas Caroling because all the lyrics are singable and that is my PET PEEVE IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO IT THE METER HAD BETTER BE RIGHT OR AT LEAST CLOSER THAN A CATHOLIC HYMN. Most of all though, I'm fond of all the memories these have. I don't know where Moss is now, but I hope they're doing well. It is also fun to see where I've come from over the years - like I said, upon reflection it makes sense that I tend to default to pretty dialogue-heavy.
The Palutena Trap | 4.7k (Incomplete) | T | Gen (past Palutena/Medusa | Kid Icarus Uprising
Summary:
Kid Icarus meets the Parent Trap.
That's it, that's all I've got.
Ok now this one is cheating because it's not published anywhere yet except in snippets on tumblr. This was actually conceived at almost the same time as Turnabout's Fair Play, but I'm trying to only focus at one at a time, so this one won't properly see the light of day until TFP is finished. (We're getting there! We're almost at the end of Act 2 out of 3!!) That does mean that I'm going about writing it in a very different way - there's going to be lots and lots of editing once I finally set down to publish this. Which is probably for the best - I'm sure there are bits of tfp that would be better if I wrote the whole thing and then went back to edit.
My favorite part of this story is still the normal-people jobs I've given everyone, since this is technically a modern AU. We have an investigative journalist who lives on a yacht, mob boss, butler who's retired MI6, and front woman for a punk band which is actually a front for an eco-terrorist group, for example. I talk more about this story here and here. Aside from that, my favorite thing is exploring the relationship between Dark Pit and Lady Palutena, and between Lady Palutena and Medusa.
The former gets off on the worst possible foot in canon, and it's only ever obliquely addressed, so it's a lot of fun to play with and extrapolate from. In this version, Dark Pit is a child whose mother gave up everything to do with him (and said some pretty nasty things in the court record). So that's where we stand: how do you reckon with that? What does it mean that you still want some kind of relationship, or at least answers? What is family and blood, in the end?
The latter relationship is one that's...well, I wouldn't say it's canon, but it's definitely canon-compliant. It's rather like Narumitsu, in that I look at it and go "hm. whatever is going on between those two, they're not normal about each other." This is true in canon, and if anything it's less true in The Palutena Trap, since despite the name the story is not about getting the parents back together so much as reconciling a mother and son. But the more this idea ferments in my brain the more I want to have some kind of meeting at the end. Maybe it goes badly, maybe it goes less badly, but I have this mental image in my head: Imagine the messiest divorce you've ever seen. Ugly, dragged through the papers, all kinds of legal issues, you part ways never to speak again. You hate her guts, and you can't go a month without thinking about her because she's always got Yet Another Stupid News Article coming out. You find out your kids have been playing some switcheroo on you, and when you meet her again you're coldly civil, both of you clearly holding yourselves back from starting a slugfest in the local forum, and then you see: she's still wearing your wedding ring. The one you picked out, the one you put on her finger 14 years ago. I just. IDK they're not normal about each other and the complexity and ambiguity of it compels me.
Vaguely Remembered 2nd Grade Writing Assignment | like 2 pages maybe | G | Gen | The Land Before Time
Alright this one's definitely cheating but this has already been a lot of reminiscing about the past, so here's a toast to the very first thing I ever wrote: an adventure story starring the main cast of The Land Before Time. All I remember about it is it absolutely sucked to get started but once I did it was longer than it needed to be and I used the word Petrie-ball™. Yes, including the ™. The Petrie-ball™ was how they solved the big obstacle, I think. Like I said, I don't remember much of it, but I remember how proud and happy I felt when it was done. So here's to you, long-forgotten fanfiction adventure story. Here's to the first of many, with many more to follow after.
(Also, if you want to see more of TFP, Palutena Trap, or Peregrine Podfic, you can bother me in a few hours for WIP Wednesday! If you want more OG Peregrine you have to bother @stonemaskedtaliesin instead. Actually, make sure you do that, I know they've got chapter 8 waiting in the wings and I NEED to see how that scene with Pip and Lissa plays out)

TOA anniversary munday!
Celebrating TOA and the people who contribute to make our group what it is.
Repost, don't reblog. Only fill in what you feel comfortable sharing!
Happy anniversary, TOA! Here's to many more years spent together.
tagging: you. yes, you.
Name: Orokara
Pronouns: he/they
Birthday (no year): February 3
Where are you from? What is your time zone? Canada; EST
Roleplay experience: I have no idea but probably something like 7 or 8 years at this point
Got any pets? Just a few fish, if you can count those
Favorite time of year: Spring! It feels really nice when the days start to get longer
Some interests and things you like: Mythology, music and playlist making, reading, animanga, cooking, random video essays, biology
Some fun facts & trivia about you: I used to moderate a few roleplay groups and a Pixelmon server myself, though those interests all died. I share a birthday with Hilda Goneril. I have an awful habit of starting things and then never finishing them. I like wearing bracelets and golf clothing. I crack my neck like all the time.
What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? Currently, Honkai: Star Rail, League of Legends, and Flight Rising. I'm also a big fan of the Pokemon series (and fan games), Project Moon games, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Ultrakill, and Omori. Currently looking for people to play Stardew Valley with me ehe
Favorite Pokemon type & Pokemon: Ghost and Grass. I used to be a grass-type gym leader on the Pixelmon server i helped run, and Appletun was my ace. Did you know that due to its ability thick fat and partial dragon typing, it actually resists fire moves? Many of my challengers didn't ;) my other faves are Hisiuan Zoroark, and Altaria!
How did you get into Fire Emblem? I liked Ike from Smash Brothers Brawl and on a whim decided to play Path of Radiance one day. It was one of my first emulator experiences. I let Rhys and Soren die on the first map they were available and never reset for them. It was bad.
What Fire Emblem games have you played? All mainlines at least once, plus feh
First Fire Emblem game: Path of Radiance!
Favorite Fire Emblem game: Blazing Blade, Binding Blade, and Genealogy in no particular order
Any Fire Emblem crushes? Kagetsu, Shannan, DIECK, Tibarn, Gerik, Selena/Severa
If you’ve played the following games, who was your first S support? Awakening - I don't remember but most recent is Chrom. Fates - Selena. Three Houses - Marianne. Engage - Mauvier
Favorite Fire Emblem class: Swordmaster but I use early game pegasus knights and thieves religiously. Dodgetanking is my favorite thing ever
If you were a Fire Emblem character, what would be your class? Navarre archetype myrmidon
If you were a Three Houses character, what would be your affiliation? Fear the Deer baby!
If you were an Engage character, which Emblem would you Engage with? Emblem Ike so I can run into an entire pack of enemies and slap the great aether button
How did you find TOA? Got invited after i was struggling as like. the only fe4 fan in a discord group that mostly wrote modern fe titles
Current TOA muses: Larcei, Owain, Sain
Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? Larcei! Though she has come and gone
Have you had any other TOA muses? Ough I might not remember them all but I think the list is: Lewyn, Elm, Sirius, L'Arachel, Ryoma, Idunn
Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? This might sound crazy considering my muselist but edgy swordsmen... I think people who grapple with feelings of revenge, hatred, and guilt are so interesting to delve into the psychology of. Lif is probably my all-time fave, if that says anything about me
What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? Slow and steady character growth. I like it so much when my muses become long-term friends with other ones. Owain and Julius, Larcei and Edward, Sain and Caeda, etc etc. Gaining a new reason to wake up in the morning and all the implications of that is always a joy to hash out over the course over multiple posts
Favorite TOA-related memory: The time Sirius and Est kept being forced to attack eachother by an arena boss, but whiffed all their rolls. Darcy and I wrote it with this little tongue-and-cheek bit where they kept saying "now isn't the time for sparring" before misdirecting yet another attack and writing Sirius' feelings regarding her, his past in Archanea, and the present state of that arena was real fun. Shoutout to N's Leif for the incredible setting of a really dark cave, too!
How do you pronounce TOA?: Sometimes I pronounce each letter individually and sometimes I say "towah". I am mad inconsistent sorry
Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day in TOA that you’d like to share? Fuck it have my whole delusion list: Rutger, Fergus, Lif, The Vaike, Lewyn (again), Osian, Melady, Orson, Zihark, Louis, Kagetsu, Libra, Lon'qu

*miscellaneous fe thoughts*
FEWTH
UGGGGGGGHHHHHHGHHRRRRRHGHHHHHHHFHHH
FEH
I would’ve actually loved it if Eitri and Otr became a recurring villain duo, kinda like Loki and Thorr. And that way they could keep saving the latter two for whatever big story beat they’ve got planned. Eitri’s motivation more or less makes sense...I think it works best if you frame it as they say they’re doing a bunch of mad scientist stuff for the good of Niðavellir, but they’re really using the country’s resources because they like doing a bunch of mad science. Like they think they’re working towards some goal but really they just want to live forever and do crimes. But Otr...his whole thing never made much sense. Like, wants Fafnir to stay. Good. Needs to repress his memories so he doesn’t remember he has another home. Great. Uses an artifact that drives him crazy, so 1) he’s clearly constantly in pain and 2) is acting so out of character he might as well be a different person?? like?? hello?? even if Otr’s totally batshit crazy I feel like he’d be like “...this is only a temporary solution, I’ll look up some other form of amnesia that won’t literally kill him.” I know I’m just rehashing why that book was such a trashfire, but what I’m saying is, there was some potential there. But anyway Otr’s dead now, and even tho Eitri literally pointed out that we can summon other copies of him, in this forging bonds story they only showed the two of them in flashback, so clearly they’re trying to keep some weight on character deaths.
Radiant Dawn
Well...I might be taking a break from this again after all. Not sure why I don’t have the energy to keep going forward with it...I think all the hopping around to different groups really killed my momentum, since raising units is one of the things I love most about these games.  Also I wasn’t feeling well the past few days, so I wasn’t much up for intense strategy.  In the meantime I’ve been playing...
FEW
Yeah, I still really like the original Warriors :’) I’ve been trying and failing to unlock Lyn, so rn I’m focusing on boosting my best unit (Lucina) to max upgrades, so she can hopefully hold her own in like fort defense or whatever while I control someone else. But yeah, I like Warriors games, I had a lot of fun with this & Age of Calamity (once I got over how hard reading the maps is). They’re fun & light & relaxing. which brings me to...
3H (& FEWTH)
UUUUUUUUGGHGH Okay. I know they won’t keep making stuff set in Fodlan forever. It makes perfect sense for them to have a 3H spinoff. It makes even more sense for them to have something light in between 3H and another new entry. I want the next original fire emblem game to get all the tlc it deserves. Obvs the last few years have been terrible for game development, so I actually want them to take more years to release a new FE game than in previous years. I’m sure they must be working on whatever the next thing is, since FE games have just been getting more popular since Awakening.
I just. I’m still living in dread that the next game will still be set in Fodlan. What they did with 3H was very cool, with four routes and a DLC campaign. That’s a lot of stuff! But because of that I’m so doooone.
Thinking about it now, I guess it’s not just that I burnt out because of replaying it too much. I think playing the older games just showed me that each game has different strengths. Blazing Blade is as straightforward and simple as a FE game gets, but because of the ending feels very satisfying to me. Path of Radiance succeeds in telling a more complex story with boatloads of characters and settings. I felt Awakening had significantly weaker character writing, even though I know they worked on it a lot, but I still love the central Chrom-Robin-Lucina storyline so much that I still am very fond of the game overall. (I should go back and try to really get a handle on the new gameplay mechanics now that I’ve played some of the older games though...)
So I guess...at the end of the day, there isn’t a storyline in 3H that I feel 100% satisfied with? I guess that’s natural with branching paths. Even Fates was designed so that you’d play the two opposing routes, but then have the third route to tie everything up. (Yes buy buying all three games, that was less good.)
I know some people are very very fond of one 3H route or another, but Verdant Wind is my favorite, and I don’t like it as much as other FE games. I guess people tend to get more passionate about Azure Moon or Crimson Flower, but, eh.
Also, I guess a big part of it is I care as much about Byleth’s place in the narrative as I did Robin’s in Awakening? Hm. Them becoming head of the church most routes feels...a little out of left field. Like by the end of the story they’ve only known about the church of Seiros for a total of like 15 months, since they were asleep for five years in the middle there. Also I guess Sothis’ presence in the story still feels weirdly unresolved?? Like...Rhea succeeds. Sothis’s consciousness appears to be revived. But she never seems to remember much, she has no desire to like, be really alive again, she doesn’t express a desire for anything really, other than apparently to not die vicariously if Byleth dies. She actively avoids having Byleth let Rhea know she’s there. Why?? Does she think Rhea will try to control her? Does she not remember her at all? Does she remember her old life but not feel attached to it? Is it not really Sothis, but just a spectre manifesting her power?? We never really find out. She’s just there to give Rhea a strong attachment to Byleth, and to give Byleth superpowers later.
soooooooo I guess what I’m feeling is, I like when there’s a “definitive route.” The narrative choice is cool! ...buuut I like a strong, well-crafted narrative that builds to a strong planned ending. Which I guess is why the other two routes are more popular. If you attached to Edelgard or Dimitri early on, their routes have a lot more to do with their personal story arcs. Claude’s still my favorite, I instantly liked him the best, I like his ending the most, and I think it’s great that he’s the only one who doesn’t up and die if you don’t pick his route, buuuut his connection to Byleth is still the weakest.
So uh. In conclusion. Uh. Dang I didn’t expect to write that much. Um. I still like 3H. I still pick it up from time to time; it’s so easy to just dip back into casually. Probably a big part of why it was so popular. The GBA games have my favorite gameplay I think, but they are not “pick up and play,” they are “sit down and concentrate for 45 minutes at least.”
But that is why I’m not excited for FEWTH. It’s fucking around in the middle of a story that I don’t care about as much. I loved Age of Calamity, because even though it unapologetically fucked with BotW’s solid story, there was a really clear point in the story where a branching narrative made sense (y’know, right before the timeskip - the same place where 3H has a branching narrative.) Also it had solid writing for Zelda, aka the character who carries the damn thing. On the other hand, I liked FEW for how unapologetically silly it was. Why are all these people here? Who cares! Certainly not you! We know you play Heroes! This is just like that! FEWTH looks like it’s taking itself pretty seriously.
Ah well. I’m. Almost certainly going to play it. =sigh= I don’t have to! ...but I will be too curious if I don’t. At least warriors games are not usually that long.
I just hope the next FE game isn’t too complicated, so it takes less time to develop, and can get here sooner...

Hey, headcanons of Lucina and Chrom if you want?
While I haven’t played Fire Emblem: Awakening, I have seen some of the Support conversations that you can have in the game. Why do I bring this up? Because Inigo’s Support conversations reveal that Lucina and Chrom are canonically ticklish!
Based on their reactions to being tickled, I think I have an idea on where they would fall on the lee-ler spectrum. But before I get to that, I believe that I should give you a warning: there may be spoilers for Fire Emblem: Awakening in these headcanons. If you haven’t beaten the game yet, you might not want to read these headcanons.
Alright, so let’s start with Lucina. Based on how she reacted to Inigo tickling her, I’m going to say that she doesn’t like to be tickled by anyone (though there are a few exceptions). This doesn’t mean that she dislikes tickling overall, though. She secretly enjoys tickling other people, but she won’t say that out loud. In short, she acts like she doesn’t like tickling at all (though she doesn’t fake her dislike towards people tickling her), but this attitude masks her inner ler.
How ticklish is she? Well, let’s just say that Marth’s lineage has a bit of a curse.
Her worst spots are her kneecaps, her sides, and strangely enough, her ears. It may be easy to get at her worst spots, but it is not easy to get her to laugh. She’ll immediately try to fight you off, threatening to cut off your hands if you keep going. If she doesn’t know you, she might actually try to do this. If she does know you, then the threat is empty, but you should understand that you are making her uncomfortable.
For someone as brave and stoic as herself, Lucina sure squirms a lot when she gets tickled. She will try to get away from her ler without resorting to violence, unless her ler is a stranger. She won’t kill anyone whatsoever, but she’ll probably try to punch you.
If you are tickling her knees, then you’ll want to be careful, because she might kick you. She’ll immediately feel bad for kicking you if she’s familiar with you, but if she doesn’t know you, she won’t apologize for it.
She doesn’t laugh all that often, so she always forget what her laughter sounds like until someone tickles her. She immediately realizes that she hates it. Why? Because it’s similar to that of her ancestor, Marth, and she doesn’t think it suits her. She’s not wrong, but many people will tell her that her laugh is cute. Yes, she hates that too (except she doesn’t. You will never hear her admit that, though).
As I mentioned earlier, there are a few people who can get away with tickling Lucina, and they are all her main lers. In her world, these people are Chrom, Robin, Relfect (this is the name that I gave to female Robin), and the members of Chrom’s New Shepards. Out of all of the members of Chrom’s New Shepards, Inigo and Owain will target her more often.
In Smash, Chrom, Robin, and Reflect are still her main lers, and they will be joined by Marth. On rare occasions, she will become the target of Corrin.
As a ler, she can be a little mean when she tickles you. What do I mean by that? Well, she’ll tickle you into hysterics simply because she can. Just so you know, she isn’t trying to be malicious. She just wants to hear you laugh.
Her favorite method of tickling is to use her hands like claws and gently claw at someone’s tickle spots. Corrin and Kamui helped her with perfecting this skill by showing her how they tickle people with their real claws.
If no one is around to witness the tickling, and she is tickling either Chrom, her mother, or a sibling of hers, then she’ll try to tease them. It’s really awkward at first, so Chrom teaches her how to tease someone while you tickle them. He couldn’t take the additional second-hand embarrassment anymore.
All of these lessons have turned her into a very decent ler. She’s not one of the most dangerous lers you’ll ever meet, but she might be in the top 20.
In her world, she’ll go after the members of Chrom’s New Shepards, especially Inigo and Owain. She’ll also go after Chrom and whoever her mother is. Chrom, Robin, and Reflect can’t escape this fate when all four of them are in Smash, but they are not the only victims. Marth becomes a victim of her tickle attacks, and so do Corrin and Roy.
Alright, we are all done with Lucina, so let’s move on to her dad.
Chrom is a lee-leaning switch who is very close to being a true switch. The only reason he’s not a true switch is because he experiences lee moods more often. However, the lee moods are almost as common as the ler moods. To be more specific, I would say that he has lee moods 60% of the time.
He is just as ticklish as Marth is, if not a little more ticklish. He even shares one of Marth’s worst spots: the sides. However, the rest of Marth’s worst spots are not shared with him, as evidenced by his other worst spot: his underarms.
Chrom has the same issue with Cloud in that he keeps one of his underarms exposed, which makes it very easy for him to get a surprise tickle attack from someone if he isn’t paying attention. If he doesn’t want to be tickled to death, then he shouldn’t keep his underarms exposed like that!
But really, he doesn’t mind it too much, because like I said, he is a lee-leaning switch. In Ylisse, it isn’t a secret that he likes being tickled, and people will regularly come up to him and tickle him while his guard is down. This happens with the members of the Shepards, too.
He’ll quickly burst into laughter when you start tickling him, and he’ll quickly begin squirming. This is pretty much all that he will do if you tickle him, but you might want to be on the lookout for his hands. No, he won’t slap you with them, but he might try to tickle you if he sees an opening.
His laugh may not be a heart-melting as his ancestor’s, but it is very contagious. Don’t be surprised if you start giggling along with him, especially if you are Robin or Reflect.
If you tickle his underarms long enough, you might get a couple of snorts out of him, which makes it even more difficult for his lers to remain resistant to his contagious laughter. The sound may be embarrassing to him, but he can’t bring himself to hate it. Not when it’s making other people laugh.
He’s weak to teasing, so make sure to incorporate that into a tickle session, both before and during. He is especially weak to teases that involve him being threatened with tickles to a specific part of his body. It doesn’t matter if you tell him that you are going to tickle his ribs, or if you threaten him with raspberries to his stomach, he will break down into hysterical laughter.
I probably hinted at this, but if I didn’t, you should know that the entirety of the Shepards will go after Chrom. Out of all of them, Lissa and Robin (or Reflect, depending on whether or not Robin is male or female) are the ones who will go after him the most often. Lucina is another one of his main lers, though I suppose that’s obvious.
Robin/Reflect and Lucina will continue to target Chrom while he’s in Smash, but now, they are joined by all of the other Fire Emblem reps. Out of all of the Fire Emblem reps (other than Lucina and Robin/Reflect), Marth, Roy, and Corrin are the ones who will target him more often. Ike, Kamui, and Byleth will go after him too, but they tend to target another one of the Fire Emblem reps instead. They don’t dislike him, mind you, but each of them have their own preferences on who they like to tickle out of all of the Fire Emblem reps. He also has a ler that isn’t a Fire Emblem rep, and that ler is Terry.
As a ler, Chrom is a tickle monster. Sure, he’s got a pretty big weakness towards tickling, but he’s still capable of being a threatening ler.
With a few exceptions, no one is safe from Chrom’s antics. He’ll taze your sides while you are walking by him. He’ll sneak up behind you and tickle your ribs. He’ll poke you in the stomach while you are having a casual conversation. He’ll even take advantage of someone who has ticklish shoulders/shoulder blades by offering them a “massage”.
Why does he do all of this? Well, 95% of the time, he’s trying to cheer up those who are feeling a bit down. 5% of the time, he’s trying to get his victims to tickle him back.
When he tickles someone, he can do one of two things:
He will tickle someone in one spot for a little while before switching to a new spot (unless the spot doesn’t result in a reaction).
He will rapidly switch to a different spot every few seconds.
Regardless of what he does, he will trap his lees in a bear hug to keep them from escaping.
He prefers to tickle someone with light scratches, but he will use a different method if he’s in the mood to do so. If he knows that you have a weakness to a certain method of tickling, then he will take advantage of it.
Chrom is a very teasy ler. He uses many different types of teases, and if you show any signs of a weakness towards a specific type of teasing, he will remember it and take advantage of it in subsequent tickle attacks.
In his world, his main lees are Robin/Reflect, whoever his wife is, and his son/daughter (Cynthia and Kjelle can be another one of Chrom’s daugters, along with Lucina. He can also have either Morgan, Brady, or Inigo as one of his sons).
Chrom will continue to tickle Lucina and Robin/Reflect while he’s in Smash, but he’s go a couple of other targets as well. For the other Fire Emblem reps, he’s got Marth, Roy, and Corrin/Kamui. For non-Fire Emblem reps, he’s got Pit, all of the younger reps of Smash, and Shulk (because like I said in the Simon and Richter headcanons, Shulk can’t stop attracting lers. RIP).
And that’s all I got for Lucina and Chrom! I don’t know why, but I really the process of creating headcanons for these two. Is it due to me liking Lucina and Chrom, even though I haven’t played Awakening? Is it due to the fact that these two are canonically ticklish, giving me the motivation to make this list? Is it something else entirely? I’m not too sure, but I suppose I don’t need a reason.

Ashen Demon’s Cunning Tricks Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Fandom: Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Character(s): Ridley, Male!Byleth, with some background characters
Ship(s): Ridley x Male!Byleth, more coming soon
Rating: T
Summary:
As the destroyer of planets and a space pirate, Ridley discarded such trivial feelings like love. However, all it takes is one cunning(?) Ashen Demon to melt the steel wall in his heart.
General Warning:
If you’re not into human/nonhuman then this isn’t for you. Also rated T for curse words in later chapters. This is also mostly character study of Ridley and the possibility of him falling in love. I hope you enjoy nonetheless.
--
He is not the one to make friends and he is not here to make friends, definitely. He is called the ‘Cunning God of Death’ in his own world. He committed many atrocities in the name of himself until one day received an unknown letter from the World of Light.
Ah. I see. This is my call for an even more battle to death…! I accept this!
He also heard that his arch nemesis aka the little girl called Samus is also joining the World of Light battles. And he couldn’t wait to destroy her once and for all!
So he thought.
And how foolish of him to think that's all there is to it.
They promised me endless thrilling near-death battles!!
So
How did I end up like thiiiiis?!?!?
Ridley thought as he sat down in a casual dining room at one dinner night. For how many times has he thought about that? He couldn’t count anymore. This damned ‘Smash Mansion’ built by Master Hand is nothing but a base filled with nothing but fighters who are obnoxious, goody-two shoes who abide by the rules, and the children… ugh… the children. He usually thinks they’re sinless and okay, but these children are driving him up the wall. They keep asking him to carry them on his back or play with them. Ridley hates it and whenever he tries to tell them to buzz off, they use their most powerful weapon to make him obey them; Samus.
The Samus that he met in the World of Light is different than the one where he came from. This Samus claimed she has slain him for good and knows every trick he has on his sleeve, much to his horror, and she’s not joking. Whenever Ridley tries to act out of the boundary of rules, her shots are always an inch apart from absolutely pulverizing his skull.
However, he found an acquaintance with some fellow ‘bad guys’ of the Smash Mansion and it’s nice to have a group to vent your frustrations to. It’s a rare feeling that he never felt before during his time in Space Pirate. And they’re all wicked like him… which suits him just fine.
Ridley thinks this life kind of sucks, but could’ve been worse. He sighed as he took another slurp of the ramen in front of him.
Tonight is the night they welcome a new fighter in the World of Light: Min Min! She’s a young lass who owned a ramen restaurant back in her world, and out of her peers, she manages to win an invitation to the World of Light. For Min Min, this is important, she wants to promote her family’s restaurant more and more, even if it were to expand to another dimension and world.
Yeah. That’s noble of her, so Ridley thought. At least for celebration, he got delicious food that isn’t usually served in Smash Mansion. Maybe with Min Min’s arrival, the current chefs of the mansion would learn a thing or two from her.
Speaking of the two chefs, they're really taking notes out of this foreign dish that is not from their world. The two chefs are twins from the dimension of Fire Emblem: Bereto and Beresu. Their real names are Byleth, but it’d be confusing if they both are called Byleth, so they all agreed to be called by their nickname from their fathers.
Both Byleths are like robots, Ridley thought. They barely emote and always observe others. They have tendencies to give someone random things or search for lost items to give to someone in the Mansion. When they first met Ridley, they immediately raised their weapons until Mario had to stop them, telling them that they’re not one of those… ‘crest monster’ or whatever they thought Ridley is.
They also have high curiosity and desire to learn more, given that they’re both professors at an academy back in their world. The children love to learn from them, and the Byleths seems to love them too, which is a relief for Ridley, so they would leave him the hell alone.
The Byleths also seem to get along with most Smash Mansion members, with Bereto getting along with the men and Beresu getting along with the ladies. Bereto tends to flock more to the baddies group for some reason while Beresu keeps getting pampered by the few lady members, given makeup or cute dresses. Ah, same fate as Dark Samus. Beresu and Dark Samus would get along for sure.
As for Bereto, the men of Smash Mansion love to have fishing-off with him. Whether they’re villains or heroes, Bereto takes on challenges with open arms. So far, him and the Animal Crossing world Villagers are on par fishing skill wise. For those who prefer thrilling battles with Bereto like Ridley, he is offering his sword too… or three of the legendary relics from his world. Ridley thought a mere human with a sword like him is an easy opponent, just like any other humans he faced in Smash Mansion.
And that leads him to his downfall. And something more.
Once, Ridley challenged Bereto in a battle at Garreg Mach. Bereto, with his students cheering on him from behind, is seen more alive than he usually is during his time in the Smash Mansion which Ridley doesn’t get the feeling.
Ridley thought it's just gonna be an easy match. No problem. Just like fighting Marth, Roy, Lucina, and Chrom. No problem, right?
And he thought wrong.
Damn, what is he made of?! That was Ridley’s last thought before he was slashed with Bereto’s demon lance Areadbhar and was thrown off stage..
GAME!!!
THE WINNER IS…. BYLETH!
However…
A whip-like sword catches Ridley’s waist right in time before he can meet his doom. There is no ultimate death in the World of Light, but falling off-stage can be a very painful experience.
Huh?
Ridley feels a strong pull from above and he eventually was thrown on the stage. He felt slight pain on his body from the impact, but it’s not as big a surprise as what Bereto did to him.
“Hurrgh…?!?” Ridley groaned.
“Are you okay?” with a monotonous voice, Bereto approaches the beaten up dragon.
Despite his initial shock, he tried to be cunning like himself, “Hah! Your pity would just cause you your li—!!” As he turned his head and tail to impale Bereto, time seemed like it stopped and his vision darkens.
When Ridley blinked he saw Bereto parry his tail with the dagger on his hips. Before Ridley can do anything, Bereto lets go of the Sword of Creator that currently binds Ridley and summons his axe Aymr and swings it down with two of his hands. Ridley thought, Oh crap, before Bereto stopped barely at Ridley’s neck and Bereto’s foot stepped on Ridley’s tail that unfortunately landed on his chest.
Being tied up with the Sword of Creator and being stepped on… while he has an axe pointed to his throat, this is a rather awkward situation for Ridley.
“You lose, Ridley. Give it up,” Bereto declared. “Don’t make me use another divine pulse,”
“My my, isn’t using divine pulse cheating… professor?” Ridley said in a mocking tone in his last word.
“You didn’t hear the announcer do you? The battle’s over,” Bereto sighed. “You don’t want me to call Samus over, right?”
Ridley immediately shuddered. “... Pah, you win, Bereto,”
“Alright. That was a good match, Ridley. Thank you,” Then, Bereto surprisingly cracked out a smile. Slight smile. And Ridley saw that.
And that was the first smile that melted through the steel wall inside Ridley’s heart.

What I wish for FEA
On the off chance Fire Emblem Awakening got remade for the switch (which can handle far more than the 3DS), things that I really hope for. I really would love if it did get remade for the switch, it was a lot of fun, a lot of great characters, an interesting set up that they could’ve done a lot more for. It’s not a perfect game, so a remake would be good to polish it up, and do the update that’s needed.
And this is more for me, been holding this in since playing FE3H and finally decided to share it.
- More supports for Chrom and Sumia
For someone who insists about standing for friendship, he doesn’t have a lot of supports, I also would’ve loved to see some other romantic options for him; like him and Flavia could’ve been great. I’d also be intrigued to see Lucina as a half taguel or manakete. And Sumia has no excuse for her small support pool. While I love Cordelia and Stahl, I also really wanted to see Sumia and Stahl, if they had a support.
And set it up that, whoever Lissa marries, that opens up a support between Chrom and his brother-in-law, if he doesn’t have one open with them. My otp is Lissa and Henry, I’d love to see the support between Chrom and Henry, that could be so funny. And have this extend to potential aunts and uncles between Lucina (Lucy’s younger sibling) and Owain. There are interactions we’re not getting but should be.
- Model edits for half races
Speaking of Lucina being half taguel or manakete; do actual edits of their models so they have those traits; I was bothered to see Morgan lack those traits. Also to see that Morgan is just a copy of her mother’s model. Taguel, ok, I can let fly since gender seems color coded for their armor, but manakete, seeing 3 different colors (yellow, pink, and white); its not hard to tweak the color. Morgan could’ve been black or purple (and on the off chance we ever get manakete!Lucina, blue for her).
- Plegia
This is a big one. While FE doesn’t have the best history with their poc, 3H was a step in the right direction, I would like this added to FEA.
Don’t make things so black and white, especially with Plegia and Ylisse. Plegia is overwhelmingly framed as the villains and Ylisse is just pure good. Never mind the fact that Ylisse did a mass genocide on Plegia that still effects it to this day. While it is acknowledged, it also feels swept under the rug too and Plegians are portrayed bad for responding as they do. And to my knowledge, Emmeryn didn’t do much to try and make up for her father’s actions outside withdrawing troops. Its a complicated situation I want to see addressed more, for there isn’t an easy answer to this. She’s not her father and shouldn’t be blamed for his sins, but she also can’t just bow her head and try to let things be, leave them to lick their wounds in peace; that allows anger, hurt, and resentment to fester that lead to Plegia lashing out. Actually one thing that could’ve been done is make use of Robin being Plegian and Emmeryn using them as a means to make up for how bad things got. Give us more on Emmeryn, and address that complicated situation.
Also, really address Robin being Plegian. Aside from later story detail, its something very forgettable and its a huge disconnect from Robin and their character. Robin is an amnesiac, yet there’s nothing of them trying to learn of their past. I would love to see Robin delving into being Plegian, their culture, and what it means to them to work with the Shepherds. While the Shepherds has been kind to Robin and embraced them to be among the flock, Robin canonly does still face suspicion after serving Ylisse loyally (Frederick). Realistically, Robin should be facing far more prejudice in Ylisse, which can help break this black and white set up between Ylisse and Plegia. This would also be really interesting to see for Robin as a character, acknowledging their Plegian heritage, what it means for them, where does loyalty lie, do they want to go to Plegia and try to find their past? Validar even hints that Robin’s mother is alive (potentially); where’s Robin trying to find their mother? To learn of their past and see what Robin was like before losing their memories, what happened that got them separated from their mother?
And not everyone will agree or like this, but remove being able to change up the avatar’s appearance. Because they want Robin blank for the player, this makes Robin lackluster as a character, and doesn’t work since there are actual conversations between the avatar and other characters that won’t match with the player’s views. Say you don’t like Chrom, but your avatar does and there’s nothing you can do to change this, its a set conversation between two characters. Let Robin exist as their own character, no changing up the design, and keep Robin as a person of color. I can say you can change the color itself  from light to dark, but no making Robin white. This extends to Tharja, Noire, Henry, and the Morgans. All Plegians that are “good” and that can recruit are white, which doesn’t help things. Keep all Plegians dark skinned, it will help remove that light skinned people are “good” and all dark skinned people are “bad”, especially when majority of Plegians are dark. So keep Robin, Tharja, Noire, Henry, and the Morgans all poc, and let Robin become their own character, for they are meant to be but also an insert for the player and they aren’t a good insert. They can do what they did with Byleth, have a potential reason why Robin starts out so blank; maybe Grima reaching out to Robin is what set that off, and the further into the story you play, the more of Robin’s true personality shines through. Tharja reveals that knowing someone’s true name allows for hexes to work, and its a wonder if Robin is their true name or if they have a true Plegian name.
And what becomes of Plegia when you beat the game? Is Plegia left broken and never rebuilt, becoming part of Ylisse? Does Robin (and their spouse) go to store Plegia and become new rulers and help forge friendships between them and Ylisse? Or does Tharja or Henry go to become the new Queen or King of Plegia with their respective spouse? House does Plegian monarchy even work? Gangrel was a peasant that survived the genocide and stepped up, then Validar just took over and now we don’t know who rules or if Plegia is just left forgotten and broken.
Speaking of Grima, lets get more into them and Plegian culture and religion. They’re a largely worshiped god that promises doom upon the world, why are they so worshiped when it means many Plegians will die as well? Are they based on the Egyptian culture, believing that there is an afterlife after death, and that it will be better than their present life? Do they believe this world is the actual hell? Is there more to Grima in worship than just death? To play off their old name, is Grima known as a creation god, for destruction is a form of creation, paving way to renewal or new things to rise from creation. Aversa mentioned “gods”, so Grima isn’t the only god that is worshiped. Who else do they worship? Are there believers of Naga? What other gods are out there?
And Grima’s mention that they and Robin are one and the same, it doesn’t get addressed or explored as much as I’d like. To what extent are they the same? Is Robin just a human reincarnation of Grima? Could Robin become Grima without the possession? Are they a dark and light counterpart to each other? Does this mean that Grima is like Robin, started out good and open to the world and just wound up corrupted or went down a dark path, that Forneus potentially pushed Grima down? Or was Grima always evil at the start? Does that mean Robin actually started out evil and then the amnesia hit and they became good?
Its said on the wiki that Robin often experienced nightmares, which we didn’t see in-game, Grima could be set up to play a similar role to Sothis, an inner demon sitting in Robin’s subconscious, trying to manipulate and scare Robin down a darker path. And if Robin can potentially explore their own mindscape, could use this to lay hints to Robin’s past and Grima’s.
- Also go ahead and expand on the lore of the world
Plegia is the one I’m interested to see more of, but would like more on Regina Ferox, more on Ylisse and their views of Plegia presently, of Valm, of the taguel and of the manakete.
But just expanding this world, for there are a lot of interesting things and details set up that are left unanswered. Actually there are some paralogue that can be doen to expand on characters and give a little on their history.
Like, Nowi revealing that she was stolen from her parents. Are they possibly still around? Who stole her? Why doesn’t she have a support with Tiki?
Is Panne really the only surviving taguel or are there more?
Is Donnel potentially part manakete since his father gave him a stone that has a “hidden power” and Nah can use it as her dragonstone to transform. So was his father a manakete or did he just find that stone?
- Take the new features from Three Houses
One of the things I really liked about 3H was being able to explore the church and talk to characters, see what new thing they have to say for each month. I’d love to see the barracks explored and talk to characters in your army and see what new thing they’d have to say to you when you go about talking to them, what their thoughts and views can be.
I’d also like to build up points like 3H does, have lunch or a drink with your army, do little things for fun and build up supports and stats.
I also adore characters being fully voice acted and seeing the cutscenes play out. I’d love for them to stay and be used for FEA.
And while very unlikely to be done, I would love them doing another take on divide paths. Two possible routes to go, there’s going with Ylisse, or going with Plegia. Have Robin decide if they want to stay and assist the Shepherds or go to Plegia and learn of their pasts, see more of characters we didn’t get to see much of, see Plegians’ life and potential struggles after that genocide and being under Gangrel and Grimeal’s rule. Maybe have a complicated goal of improving things for Plegia, work at becoming the new Queen/King of Plegia, see how things stay the same or play out differently with you there.
It is very unlikely though, so at most I’d hope for an expansion on lore and culture, and make things far more grey than the black and white set up they did.
- Update characters
There are characters who haven’t aged well and require a major update in design and personality. Tharja is creepy but has a secret heart of gold, which clashes with what Noire tells us in the future. Inigo is a nice guy and is extremely annoying. Nowi has the mentality of a child and its extremely uncomfortable to pair her up with anyone, and I’d like to see her updated to be more along the lines of Flayn, still child-like in a sense, but also mature and wise in her own way. Her daughter Nah I don’t remember liking much either and would like to see adjusted. This is one of a few I think really need a tweak in personality and design.
- Allow for same sex endings
Now, this is unlikely since female characters (minus Chrom and male Robin) are the ones with future kids, but I would like to see that some same sex characters could have endings together, though there’s the issue of no child from mlm pairs. This can be solved by adding a handful of future kids to certain male characters, and can open up more sibling supports. its also realistic for some parents to have more than one kid.
But that means adding more children and I don’t know if they will. I would love to see more child characters and more sibling interactions, but yeah I don’t know if they will...
- Remove allowing Robin to pair up with a kid from the future
No. Just no. That should not have been a thing.
- Allow me to have both my children
Future Past dlc all but confirms that Morgan has a twin that exists, let us have them both. I adore them both, and I would love to see them work off each other.
- Give Flavia and Say’ri their own kid
Very salty that these two woc don’t have their own kid as well and a very small window of supports. Which ties into the next point.
- Update supports
It is very annoying that some characters don’t have supports with each other. Not just Chrom being picky about company despite boasting about friendship and bonds and Sumia being picky about spouses (for some reason); but Lon’qu and Basilio can’t talk, nor him and Say’ri despite coming from the same region. Nor any support between Nowi and Tiki despite Nowi having a fear of being alone, here is another manakete and yet no interactions between them? And on the off chance they keep in extra recruitable characters, why don’t Emmeryn have a support with Chrom and Lissa and Frederick?
- Chrom
So I know Chrom needs a wife for Lucina, but my god its the most annoying thing to deal with him till past a certain chapter, especially if one of his few potential wives I want to pair with someone else. I know its a must, but I would like it updated and adjusted. Because at the start of the play through, everyone has to avoid him like the plague less he goes and steals someone’s wife.
Another issue is him being the Exalt, we don’t see him being the Exalt and most of his time is spent away from his kingdom, making him lackluster as a ruler and leader. Who is he leaving in charge of Ylisse when he’s about when his potential wife, Lissa, and Frederick are at his side? Is any of the people of Ylisse bothered or nervous about him being vacant to rule? 3H the heirs feel like actual rulers and leaders, Chrom doesn’t. I’d like that updated, see what he is like as an Exalt, and what issues there are for there is no perfect ruler. What are his goals and how will he act them out? Does he have any? is Ylisse ok enough that he hardly needs to actively govern it?
.
.
.
And I think that about covers it for all things I’d hope to see added/polished up for FEA remake, if it ever happens for the switch. I really hope so, it got me into Fire Emblem, and while a lot of fun, it needs polishing up, and could use some updates and add ons.
I hope one day I will get to see it on the switch, and to see it updated and improved upon.

Super Smash Bros critical hit quotes
To contribute to the recent efforts to turn Smash Bros into Fire Emblem with Nintendo All Stars, I thought it would be cool/funny to add critical hit quotes to Smash Bros characters. Maybe they could say these whenever they used their final smashes (some of them already do lmao). Or, if we ever do get a tactics RPG with Nintendo characters which would be THE DREAM, Nintendo could use these. Some of these were really easy, others were really hard. I bet you can guess which ones.
Also, for characters who communicate with singular noises/grunts, I’ve added a translation of what they’re actually saying.
Mario:
“Lets-a go!”

New Mystery of the Emblem is complete, and I have many thoughts.
Let’s just start with this: holy shit this was so much more fun than Shadow Dragon.  For three major reasons:
No one is expected to die.  Shadow Dragon bothered me immediately, because I’m required to let someone die in the prologue to escape.  That sucks, and I hated it.  I have never gotten over that, or the expectation to kill more units to access the bonus chapters.  Which, sure, you can argue are optional.  But those characters appear in this game and are recognized, so clearly those happened now didn’t they?!
SUPPORT CONVERSATIONS!  Okay, they’re not like...actual support conversations.  They’re Radiant Dawn style, where you have conversations with allies at your base and only your base.  But there’s a tier of 1-3 for most characters, and they’re essentially support conversations, and god Shadow Dragon was impossible to get in to without those.  Seriously, I may enjoy the gameplay of Fire Emblem overall, but I do not enjoy units for combat performance, I enjoy them for being characters, and thank god they feel like characters this time.
Actually interesting story.  Shadow Dragon was pretty boring, frankly.  Very basic concepts presented, not really a lot going on.  But New Mystery actually expands on a lot of this stuff.  I’ll get into that more below.
Suffice to say, I really enjoyed it more than Shadow Dragon.  I think in terms of ranking, I’d definitely place it above Shadow Dragon, Birthright, Revelation, and Sacred Stones.  Currently I think I’m putting it above Conquest too.  While Conquest is similarly fun to play, New Mystery has the benefit of being more interesting as a story.  Im hesitant to put it over Echoes, though.  Listen, Echoes sucks as a game.  It’s really not fun to play, almost at all.  New Mystery is fun to play, so this should be obvious.  But while the story is improved, I wouldn’t put it anywhere near the level of Echoes.
See, the main thing with New Mystery is that it filled in gaps that made the world feel more organic than just generic medieval kingdom with magic and dragons and shit.  They delve into what the Fire Emblem here is, about the history of the dragons, and why, say, Tiki’s kept locked away for so long.  Also why Medeus is a villain, and out to eliminate humanity.  Turns out, he was the only Earth Dragon to listen to Naga and convert to a manakete, and even helped guard the seal over the dragons who were slowly losing their minds.  But humans, as soon as they had that advantage, exploited dragons.  Several maps showcase that these deteriorating dragons are being kept in thrall to human tribes who use their power for personal gain.  Exploitation of dragons led Medeus to despise humans, and seek to overthrow them.  Which is pretty cool!  I’m on board with that!  Tiki’s said to also be deteriorating without the seal in place, and that, as a powerful divine dragon, she’s bring ruin to the world if she weren’t contained.  So they basically kept her in stasis to avoid disaster.  Which...okay, Fallen Tiki should’ve just been that.  A feral Tiki that’s no longer all there, instead of just “Gharnef’s power is controlling her.”  Shadow Dragon’s momentarily irritable Tiki wasn’t shit compared to what they implied could happen here.
The trouble is that the game is still pretty basic.  Beyond this bit of worldbuilding, it’s still very much conflict between the kingdoms, again, all ochestrated by Gharnef, who’s working for Medeus.  Again.  They play around more with their themes and set up some cool ideas, but it’s not the most compelling of narratives by any means.  What’s also not helped is that, while support conversations exist to make characters more engaging, it’s not all of them, and not all are done well.  Some supports are just a sort of filling in the gaps.  At least, with the MU they are.  Maybe with other characters they get a bit more.
Speaking of MU, let’s divert a bit to talk about them.  Kris is like...the one MU I have heard universal hate for.  My best guess is that this is due to fans of the original FE3, who didn’t like their inclusion in the first place, because otherwise I have no idea what the problem is.  Kris seems fine.  Really boring, but fine.  The only reason they’re kinda my least favorite is because they’re supposed to be their own character but don’t do anything.  Like, Robin has a personality and is fun, and has a great dynamic with Chrom.  Corrin, for all the faults borne of Fates, feels pretty much like a typical Fire Emblem lord.  Byleth...okay, I don’t like Byleth much, I feel like their inclusion kinda hinders the game’s narrative a little bit, but otherwise they’re pretty blank and exist mostly as a support for the other lords.  But Kris...doesn’t do much of anything.  They don’t really have a dynamic with anyone, including Marth, and are just sort of...generic loyal knight with no knowledge of the world for some reason, and who only ever trained with their now dead grandfather.  Beyond that, they don’t really exude any particular personality.  Which is probably part of the problem with supports; everyone supports with Kris, but they don’t contribute much, so it’s mostly the other character doing stuff at them.  They just don’t have much to do.
With one exception.  We gotta talk about the other, presumably new character: Katarina.  I actually love Katarina.  Which is a shame, I pulled one of her in Heroes once and made her into a manual because I didn’t care.  Oh well.  Anyway, Katarina’s got a pretty solid story behind her, and is one of the more compelling pieces of the plot overall.  She’s part of a band of assassins who were orphans, taken in by Lady Eremiah.  Eremiah is super cut-throat, willing to sacrifice the lives of these children to accomplish her goals, which mostly seem to be serving Gharnef.  While Legion’s boring and lame, Clarine and Katarina are spectacular.  Clarine starts off really obnoxious, and kind of a bitch, but the chapter where she finally falls hit me pretty hard.  Katarina’s supports with Kris also give a bit more context to what had happened, particularly with the talk about how Clarine and Katarina share a birthday, because they never had one but Clarine just decided on a day and that was the end of it.  It’s a really cute dynamic you get to experience kind of in reverse.  You see how bad things have gotten, then get the history of what used to be, and why Katarina couldn’t leave.  Eremiah’s the same.  Gharnef shows up as she’s dying and reminds her of her own history.  The orphanage she worked at was burned to the ground and the children slaughtered in the last war.  In despair, Gharnef appeared and convinced her that if the children were strong, they wouldn’t die so easily, leading her to take in the next wave and train them for strength alone, all the while becoming corrupted by Gharnef’s influence.  That last part aside, pretty compelling.  I do enjoy narratives that play with the idea of kindness being manipulated to a sensible, but corrupted, conclusion.
My main problem is that Gharnef sucks.  He’s not an interesting villain at all.  He just kind of exists, and was largely motivated by getting passed over by his master when it came to who got the cool spells.  He’s a big, stinky baby man whining about not being the favorite, and I could not care less.  Yet he’s supposed to be this grand puppetmaster, of a particularly shitty puppet.  Hardin was an ally in Shadow Dragon, who became an enemy this game.  Why?  Oh, he was mad that Nyna didn’t like him back, and got super buttmad about it.  Which is honestly fair at this point, since they describe it as a depressive episode.  He gets to marry this woman he loves, only to find out she never reciprocated the feeling at all.  Feel like it’s fair to be upset.  But then Gharnef shows up and allegedly corrupts his soul with the Darksphere.  Which...okay, first?  Lame.  Second?  Why do we have that, and why does it do that?  This was a gift from Naga, why the hell is it so dangerous?  Third, super lame!  It takes away all agency Hardin had as a villain and removes it down to “oh, he was possessed.”  Which sucks, because the exact inverse happened for Michalis, and now he’s super cool!
His character arc this game was spectacular!  Showing up to take Minerva away from her captors.  Giving her refuge in the desert and helping her rendezvous with Marth?  There’s something going on, compared to last game where he was just some lame baby man who wanted power.  Minerva says Gharnef lost his hold, and Michalis is like “Oh, no, I would never bend to him.  I killed dad because we disagreed on Macedon fighting to become a major power in the world again, and he tried to have me exiled.  I did it for me, and regret nothing.”  Honestly loved that.  But when asked why he’s helping now, it turns out it’s for their sister.  He talks about how, after he was defeated, he was near death, and the first thing he saw when he came to was Maria kneeling over him, praying to the gods to save him.  He was so touched by her kindness despite his actions, that he’s now solely driven to save her as his final act.  He doesn’t regret his actions, but recognizes that he lost and needs to do something, and god damn if it’s not going to be saving his little sister.  That’s super cool!  I’m so on board with this dude now!  One of the bigger antagonists of Shadow Dragon who offered almost nothing became a big favorite in the game with a single conversation!  I feel like that encapsulates the difference between Shadow Dragon and New Mystery pretty well.
The last thing I’ll mention is gameplay.  I really enjoyed just playing this game, and I think a big component of that is because the maps are pretty short.  And yet.  They’re challenging.  There are a few that just repeatedly required me to restart the chapter, despite being maybe three turns long.  The extra chapter when you first face Legion, and it’s got the two mercenaries to the left and right of your starting position, and you can recruit both but you have to not kill them?  The map was so small they could get to just about anyone, so it was a real challenge to handle the archers with my high movement units, prevent those two from dying against the blockades to the sides, and take out the boss quickly without being swarmed.  Other times, the gimmicks were a little obnoxious.  Like Chapter 18.  You’re trying to take this one castle on the right that’s pretty well defended, but there are these super fast cav archers closing in on you from above.  You basically have one turn to get to the village on the left, so their king calls them off.  It’s a cool chapter, but I had to reset the first time, because I didn’t go into the chapter knowing that.  I put my dancer closer to the fortress, thinking I’d have to just move quickly and take out the boss to get them to back off, so Marth couldn’t reach the goal fast enough.  It’s just small things like that.
Overall, I think it’s pretty solid.  I could see playing this one again some day.  Maybe to intentionally miss one of the spheres so I can see what the bad ending is about.  But on the whole, I like it.  Still not super impressed with the characters in Marth’s game, I still feel like a lot are pretty bland (including Marth himself), but it’s a huge step up from Shadow Dragon.

Lords and their Knights: When FE Chivalry Goes Gay
@mwritesink prompted me to write about my favorite tropes in FE and how they evolved over the course of the series. I already crossed a few others off in an earlier post, but this one is a particular favorite of mine where M/M romance in this series is concerned and one I felt had enough examples to constitute a piece of its own. Let it not be said that this is merely the gay variation on the well-worn heterosexual romance trope of a lady and her knight (ex. Eirika/Seth), because negotiating the fundamental power imbalance in this type of relationship takes on different dimensions when both parties are male. I draw a closer comparison to courtly love, which in the traditional sense is also socially transgressive (being adulterous) and not consummated via marriage or other public means...which in FE terms means an S support and possibly a eugenics baby. A vassal in love with his lord rather than his lord’s wife is not only cutting the female intermediary out of what can already be a very homoromatic scenario, but it’s directly tangling together a kind of martial romantic love and ideas about what knighthood/vassalage even is or ought to be - two topics FE loves to explore. I’ve therefore compiled a few of the most notable examples of this trope across the series to talk about in more detail, because if one is willing to be liberal with subtext there’s surprisingly quite a few to pick from.
(And yeah, this is also in part because I like hot rich men who take orders, and this series already has plenty of gay or otherwise ambiguously non-straight mages, thieves, archers, and their ilk without my help.)
The Sad Gay Knight: Quan/Finn
This one I’ve talked about before in a fair amount of depth, from my hopes for how a Genealogy remake will treat Finn to speculation on just what Quan got out of this relationship besides a devoted retainer and (we may assume) a nice piece of ass. The summary here is that Finn’s love for Quan supersedes anything he’s shown to feel for any of the various women he can hook up with and quite frankly astonishes in its ramifications for the future of Leonster and Thracia as a whole. It’s poignant, adulterous (but Ethlyn’s probably ok with it?), and messy as all hell once you factor in whatever’s up with Glade and whatever Lachesis wasn’t feeling about the whole situation. It is also, naturally, very sad; Finn loses his lord when he’s only around eighteen, and with their kingdom collapsing around him and the entire continent consumed by war he dedicates the next twenty years of his life to raising Quan’s son to be the king Quan himself had wanted to be. And for all his labor he apparently derives no lasting satisfaction, spending his epilogue wandering around the Yied desert and at last returning only to (possibly) pen the history he’s helped to make.
Finn is the embodiment of knighthood loyal unto and beyond death, and that paired with all the romantic and erotic subtext surrounding the two of them - Finn as Quan’s treasured favorite, his catatonia after Yied, the obsessive polishing of the brave lance that Quan gave to him, his inability to satisfy women in some vague way - makes them the defining example of this trope in Fire Emblem. I look forward to seeing how remakes will handle them; Finn’s presentation in Heroes is definitely cause for hope there. As for the issue of yet another story in media of gay men beset by tragedy and death, I did draw up a long headcanon on the technically crack pairing of Diarmuid/Tristan that specifically plays into the lord and knight trope while also allowing Finn a chance to pass his experiences on to a later, happier generation. IS is free to take notes, just saying.
Pretty Blond Twinks and the Men Who Love Them: Perceval/Elffin and their lasting influence
Moving on from Jugdral, I’ve got to say that I’ve really been sleeping on the original gay Elibean duo. Before Raven and Lucius (but chronologically after, because these games are out of order) there was another feminine young man with long blond hair beloved of a severe-looking warrior. Binding Blade gives us the bard Elffin, who in another life was Etruria’s Prince Mildain and Perceval’s liege. The Knight General takes Mildain’s alleged accidental death about as well as Finn takes the death of his lord and lady; he turns grim and humorless, and without a dying dream to guide him he follows the command of the corrupt revolutionary faction of Etruria with little protest. It takes learning that Mildain is alive and in Roy’s army for Perceval to drop the halfhearted Camus routine and switch sides, and the strength of his fealty not to his nation or even to his king but to the prince he’d thought dead is absolutely touching in the moment not to mention incredibly useful since the guy is one of FE6′s best units.
Binding Blade doesn’t give anyone but Roy and his harem paired endings, but there’s still a fair bit to be gleaned from their support lines, both what is in them and what isn’t. Perceval and Elffin each have supports with women, but nothing remotely romantic - Perceval’s support with Larum is particularly amusing since he clarifies that her, ahem, dancing does nothing for him. Also worth noting is that neither of them can support with Clarine, even though one would think they’d make fine romantic choices for her given their statuses and physical resemblances to her beloved brother. Their own support line is quietly intimate. Elffin has changed since his near-death experience, and Perceval is still struggling to accept that their relationship can’t be as it was, that in fact for the time being they can’t now be a knight and his prince. Perceval also frets over Elffin’s refusal to see his father the king, and he later extracts a promise from Elffin to come home to Etruria after he’s done traveling the world as a bard, in one of the series’s several instances of writing what sounds like a marriage proposal in ambiguous terms. Per Elffin’s ending, he’s only gone for a few months after the war, so their promised reunion isn’t long delayed. I’m interested to see what a remake would add to their relationship, because as it stands Perceval/Elffin has an established romance arc that deserves a paired ending or at the very least more suggestive epilogues.
Further compounding their underrated signficance, it’s not too difficult to trace a line from Perceval/Elffin to a number of other M/M pairings in the two later GBA games and in Tellius that present some variation on this theme:
As mentioned above, Raven/Lucius is physically similar and performs a nearly identical gameplay function, with the pretty blond waif again responsible for recruiting his surly but protective boyfriend from the ranks of the enemy.
Gerik/Joshua meanwhile borrows the character of the end of their support line and turns it into a genuine paired ending, with a prince incognito recruiting a swordsman to come work for him. They being who they are however, it’s all handled a bit rougher, with Gerik being impressed by Joshua’s “swagger.” Take that as you will.
Ike/Soren may be the defining seme/uke dynamic in Tellius’s overflowing fount of queer subtext, but Tibarn/Reyson smashes that trope together with this one and FE’s power couple unit archetype plus a dash of whatever the avian equivalent of furries is for wholly unique results. Although both of them are technically royalty, only Reyson is a prince by heredity whereas Tibarn presumably became king of Phoenicis by beating the crap out of any rival contenders as most laguz prefer to do. One can therefore read shades of a courtly relationship in Tibarn’s decision to zealously take up the cause of justice for the Serenes massacre in Reyson’s place. Combine this with Reyson’s characteristic edge that even Tibarn is forced to rein in at times and their relationship comes off as surprisingly more egalitarian than the sum of its parts. Oh yeah, and blond waif dancer + premade OP unit with ludicrous physical stats and movement again.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the conflict of the Tellius games Zelgius -> Sephiran explores what would happen if a gay Camus archetype chose instead to dedicate himself to an antagonistic lord. Sure, you can still recruit Sephiran via a convoluted and unintuitive process, but Zelgius is doomed no matter what.
They Can Say It, But They Can’t Do It: Awakening and Fates
Ugh. If I must....
I’ve made no secret of my ambivalence toward FE13 dragging the series into open acknowledgement that same-sex attraction is a thing that exists, handled as it was with a lot of explicit homoerotic denial and an assortment of cheap gay panic jokes and...whatever the hell Victor and Vincent are supposed to be. Chrom/Frederick, hot though it may potentially be in fanon, is one of those jokes, making a parody out of a knight enamored of his lord and leaving it to mean absolutely nothing since Awakening’s relationship endgame is invariably S supports for time traveling eugenics babies. FE has taken cracks at the overly dedicated knight before - see just about everything involving Kieran from Tellius, up to and including his overzealous devotion to his superior officer - but Awakening plumbs the depths of Frederick expecting Chrom’s nude image to raise the army’s morale. Just..what do you even say to that, apart from the awkward sputtering that comprises most of their support line?
FE14, for all its stumbling steps toward something less completely offensive, fares little better in this particular regard. Leo/Niles is a deeply troubled albeit thought-provoking callback to the subtextual lord/knight relationship, one where it’s hard to imagine them finding a healthy way to navigate the power differential. Then there’s Ryoma/Saizo. It’s nothing special in localization, but the never-localized festival DLC involves Saizo’s ardent desire to warm Ryoma’s clothing in his cleavage. That sounds like absolutely normal behavior for a servant and not a rehash of Frederick’s shenanigans, uh huh. Fates may indeed be said to be slightly better about playing palpable homoerotic tension for drama rather than comedy...but only slightly.
Paving the Way for an OT3: The Deliverance
This is, incidentally, yet another reason to appreciate Echoes for doing so much to redeem the 3DS games in the realm of (male) queer content. Yes, there’s a large and unaddressed divide between the openly gay and very modern Leon and the heavily subtextual faux-historical queerness of the Deliverance, but taken independently the two presentations work for what they’re each separately aiming to be. Among Clive’s gay entourage are not one but two men who’d dearly love to be the knight to his lord, and Forsyth’s strong desire to put Clive on a pedestal evokes the earlier spoofs of this kind of relationship precisely because Forsyth is that kind of vassal, the kind that would read Ribald Tales of the Faith War and cry like a heavily erect virgin bottom getting his first taste of dick at the brief interludes of tender manly love between Quan and Finn. He’s played for comedy just as much as Kieran or Frederick are, and yet Echoes comes across as less down on the concept as a whole for several reasons, being that
1) Python’s snark over Forsyth’s attraction to both Clive and Lukas is genuinely funny, much more so than when it’s the object of these affections quietly groaning his way through them,
2) Lukas is also there, and his desire to be Clive’s beloved knight is not played for comedy at all but is allowed to be unrealistic and unsatisfying because Clive will never get it,
3) everyone wants to screw Clive for some reason, not just his subordinates but also his sister and the estranged BFF who dies in his arms...and the guy is shown to be unworthy of all of them, and
4) all the characters involved are allowed other avenues for romantic attraction outside of a lord who’s just not that into them. Forsyth has Python, Lukas has both of them as friends and possibly more later, Clair has Gray (...at least he’s not her brother?), and Fernand has a bad rebound that goes to hell in the manner of Zelgius and Sephiran but at least ends with him getting to reconcile with his former friend before he dies.
The setup for the Deliverance’s overarching queerness is a bit strange as it rests on all these characters somehow finding Clive attractive, but nonetheless it makes for an unexpected and refreshing critique of the lord and knight trope, given a situation where the lord just isn’t that into it and in fact doesn’t seem to realize that he can be into it. It’s a good reminder that this isn’t a particularly good dynamic for a stable and lasting relationship, and that as hot as it can be it takes more than impassioned one-way devotion to make it work in the long term.
The good news if you’re into this kind of relationship like I am is that it’s a trope with some life in it yet. Echoes came at it strong, and prerelease information on Three Houses suggests a few possibilities for this dynamic in that game. I’m especially keeping my eye on Dimitri and Dedue, whose relationship appears to contain echoes of the original duo of Quan and Finn. I highly doubt there will be anything on the level of S supports acknowledging this type of attraction, but I’ll settle for some suggestive A supports.

My honest thoughts on Byleth+an analysis of Fire emblem in Smash and community reception
Hello tumblr, it’s me animefighter with a new original post. I know it’s late but I though I’d give an objective look at the inclusion of the new DLC Byleth from fire emblem 3 houses. As many of you guys know, this character hasn’t gotten the warmest welcome; especially compared to the other DLC characters, (Even Hero and Piranha Plant got warmer welcomes) I’ll even admit that I was let down by their reveal and I’m a fan for the fire emblem series.  I can’t speak for other people but for me, I wasn’t necessarily “MAD” about Byleth more disappointed and burnt out from the amount of FE reps. Maybe it’s a similar case for other people, they’re not angry nor do they hate the FE series they’re just burnt out and are expressing it in the wrong way in the heat of the moment. At least that’s how I feel. I personally would have been less disappointed if they were released either around the same time as Piranha Plant or started the second Fighter pass.
Some positive things I can say is that the female alt, just like with Robin and Corrin is pretty cute. and their moveset is interesting and refreshing compared to half the FE reps playing nearly identical to one another. I like the variety for weapons they use for their moves and they look like they’re going to be a long range but slow powerhouse character probably on the mid-heavy side in terms of weight. The low mobility is going to be an issue for me though. Also, a lot of their moves look like they’re going to be very easily telegraphed and punishable if whiffed. I might be able to talk about them more when they come out next week and I lab with them for a bit; but I digress.
Now let’s take a look down the rabbit hole of history of FE characters in Smash  over the years and the reception that these characters and the franchise got from this community.
Circa 2001/2002 Melee launches and fans rush to buy it and try to unlock all the characters. we get more Nintendo all stars from past and present (at the time) including old school reps like Ice climbers and Mr. Game and watch. Among the other unlockable characters we were introduced to Marth from the OG fire emblem and Roy from Binding Blade. At that point, the series was not known outside of japan at all or at least had a small niche fanbase but as far as I knew, the community more than welcomed these two with Open arms and they were widely used by many players world wide and sparked some interest in this lesser known series. ( Believe it or not, FE was not always one of Nintendo’s major players in america) But regardless, Marth and Roy were very well received in the game and the idea of more sword fighters in Smash was encouraged. (The fact that Marth in particular was  a competitively viable character also helped)
Fast forward to Brawl’s release 7 years after Melee’s and Marth Returned to the fray with a new FE rep, Ike from Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Roy, was unfortunately scrapped from Brawl leaving many smash fans, myself included feeling bummed out. Ike played vastly differently from Marth sporting a slower but harder hitting play style and a recovery that meant glory or death if you used it.  Also, being the first of the characters to speak English and have the most quotable taunts and win quotes won Ike his share of fans and again, swodies in smash was something that people actually wanted more of believe it or not. People also wanted more FE reps. I know, it sounds crazy nowadays, right? But that was the case. There was also a system of belief that if one character was added another would be cut. Such was the theory buzzing around during Smash 4′s development.
Now let’s look at the years 2013 and 2014 when smash 4 was announced and FE awakening was out and doing pretty well. Marth was confirmed to return and so was IKe and people were happy. next, later, FE awakening’s Robin and Lucina were comfirmed instead of the games progatonist, Chrom. This I believe is where the division of how many reps and who from this series should be in smash began to start. Many were elated about Robin’s inclusion and playstyle as well as having a female alt, Lucina’s inclusion was a divisive one at best. Some were happy about having another rep and a girl on the roster, but others were put off about her being a clone of Marth just with no tipper hitbox. nonetheless, the 2manyswords argument wasn’t wasn’t that rampant yet and people were still happy with the franchises inclusion in smash for the time being.  Still Chrom not being included hurt many FE fans and Roy being given the ax a second time was an even bigger blow that contributed to the division in both fandoms. That seemed to be alleviated when  Roy returned as DLC. the 2 many swords argument was happening but it wasn’t as bad and was more of a running gag at the time. As far as how many FE characters in smash was, 5 was a good number for the lot of the community. Things took a dive however when Corrin was announced as dlc. That’s when I feel the burnout started.  Corrin’s inclusion solidified 6 FE characters in smash and added fuel to he flame war on sword characters.
Then Ultimate was announced. Everyone is here! everyone is happy!  Right? well, yes for a little while. the clone problem was somewhat fixed with echo fighters meaning Lucina was now an echo of Marth somewhat sharing a roster spot with him. (THough the competitive side of the fanbase will say otherwise) Chrom is finally included as an echo or Roy and his reception was at most lukewarm. No real hate just an “oh, ok.” feeling. The amount of sword fighters in smash was an even bigger issue now especially since the majority of them were in deed form Fire Emblem. Dlc is one again announced and we got Joker, Hero from DQ Banjo and Kazooie, Terry Bogard and here we are today with the latest addition, Byleth aka the real fallout of the franchise in smash.
It’s true that some fans are indeed against FE as a whole and it’s saturation in the roster;with 8 reps, FE is now the 3rd most represented Franchise in smash just behind Mario with 9 (11 if you include Yoshi and Wario, 11.5 if you include DK) and Pokemon having 10 if you include the Pokemon trainers pokemon as 3 seperate characters. it’s even more of a concern when factoring nintendos other known franchises such as Kirby, Metroid Star FOx and even zelda to a degree havent gotten any new fighters from those series or other games not being given a celebration of gaming treatment like golden sun or F-zero, an arguably dead franchise at this point. and while I pesonally agree with the people who say that FE is saturating the roster, I will never justify or defend anyone who harasses Sakurai on twitter or says that he should be fired or that god forbid something bad should happen to him just because they’re feeling some type of way about a character. at the end of the day, Nintendo and the dev team made the choices they made and you’re free to be salty just don’t be an asshole. Hate them or love them, Byleth is here.

( charlie rowe, trans male, he/him, fire emblem: awakening ) * &. i know it must be scary for you, owain, after surviving the takeover. to turn into someone like owen faulk, a twenty-three year-old clerk at the hq, right here in castle town. just remember that you are as imaginative as you are impulsive, and to be wary, be safe, be true to who you are : heroic through and through. ( (H)O(Y)-(LIA) THERE )
HOY THERE. Sup guys so I’m here with . . . the closest Fire Emblem has ever written to an actual LARPer who is ALSO my baby boy , fucking love of my life , favorite weirdo 10/10. Click for more under the cut , but beware of spoilers for Fire Emblem: Awakening !!
Tumblr media
BEFORE CASTLE TOWN. / O W A I N. ( tw: parental death )
SOOOO OKAY. let me get some stuff out of the way ,
- - - UNDERNEATH THIS BOY CONSISTS OF SPOILERS FOR FIRE EMBLEM: AWAKENING ( and kind of Fates ) . A MARKER WILL BE SET TO INDICATE SPOILERS ARE OVER. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.
Soooo’kay Owain !! Now Owain. Owain has the exact same circumstance as Lucina , who I recently dropped if you remember her.
Not too familiar still ?? That’s fine !! He’s basically the future child of one of the heroes of the story , and like the rest of them , traveled through time as his future was a ruined land where chaos took over and zombies and evil dragons and . . . yeah. In his time , his parents are long dead. It’s not pretty.
Now who are his parents ?? Well his dad is determined by the player - I won’t clarify who his father is for plot reasons ( but my favorite candidates are Gaius & Lon’qu ) , but his mother is LISSA. Lissa , yes , your first cleric in the game , one of your starter heroes , and Chrom’s little sister. So this makes Owain Ylissean royalty of sorts ( his mother’s a princess ) , and also Chrom’s nephew , and Lucina’s cousin.
Of course , you find out that all of the children got separated as they traveled through time - some like Laurent , who were displaced five years earlier than when you find him. Owain didn’t have a scenario like that , but this poor baby actually curled up into a ball and cried upon realizing he was alone. My POOR FUCKING SON -
An interesting fact is that he bears the brand of the Exalt - a thing of the Ylissean royal family that surfaces on the skin of each member - while his mother’s actually never surfaced. He has it on his arm ( isn’t clarified exactly where , but I like to think it’s on the back of his hand. )
SOOOO lemme just get this one out of the way because I feel like I need to address it - because the way Awakening works , Owain is one of the many characters who - thanks to the fact that every child unit save for Lucina inherits their dependent parent’s ( in this case , his father’s ) hair color , his hair color and be... literally anything. Now in Fates his hair’s blonde ( because Lissa’s is ) BUT ... I prefer Owain with dark hair so I simply said fuck it and went with that. Technically either Frederick , Kellam , Lon’qu , or even Stahl ( closely in a way ) could give him that sorta hair color but just because I made him have dark hair doesn’t mean his dad’s any of these dudes. Again , I won’t clarify.
ALSO . . . I’m not. SURE on what I want to do for Fates because Owain actually does appear in Fates ( as a dark mage named Odin working under Prince Leo of Nohr ) but I’m not. Big on some parts of Fates but ALSO I . . . I REALLY LIKE HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH LEO & NILES so I guess I’ll be including that but not Ophelia since. As much as I love her it’s so hard to picture Owain as a dad with this kind of plot. He’s still Baby in my eyes.
AKA bring me a fucking Leo.
- - END OF MAJOR FIRE EMBLEM: AWAKENING ( and kind of Fates? ) SPOILERS.
SO YEAH THE MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT OWAIN is . . . well , remembering when I said he’s basically a LARPer ?? I wasn’t kidding.
A good chunk of his character is that most of the time he actually acts like a character from an old hero’s legend or something. He speaks in this overly theatrical Ye Olde kind of . . . dialect ?? I’m not sure if that’s the right way to put it but he basically puts on a show 90% of the time - but he also breaks character quite a few times in game.
( SPOILER WARNING )  Like when you recruit him with Chrom : “By the gods old and new! Another future traveler?! And yet, impossible, for I saw none like him in the light... Who are you, villain?! Speak now!” “Um, I'm Chrom. ...Of Ylisse? I have no quarrel with you, but if we must fight, then-” “UNCLE CHROM?!”
That is singlehandedly one of the best conversations in-game and it’s not even a support.
BUT YEAH he loves stories like these and always wanted to be that legendary hero so he goes around acting like it because he likes it and it’s so fucking pure.
One thing he has is his “sword hand” - it’s purely a theatrical thing , but he has this uncontrollable “sword hand” that thirsts for duel and battle and it’s why I almost made his url “svvordhvnd” but that was too obvious for Owain.
It’s changes to “aching blood” in Fates but that’s not as good as my opinion since in Awakening’s one of his voice lines is literally “My sword hand twitches.”
Lucina describes him as “colorful.” She’s not wrong.
He also has a habit of naming his weapons and attacks and . . . shouting when he performs them ?? He also names these weapons & attacks after actual Fire Emblem characters & titles from previous games - it’s fucking funny.
And of COURSE all of these theatrics and imagination isn’t for naught since he’s actually a bit of a writer !! In his Hot Spring Scramble conversation with Laurent he actually has a manuscript all written down and apparently it’s well-written and damn good.
But yeah in a nutshell - Owain is just a nerdy sweetheart who honestly never really grew out of playing pretend and it helps him cope with all the shit he’s faced so ?? Are we gonna blame him ?? Fuck no that’s my baby & he’s a creative baby who drinks respect women juice. That’s important.
Tumblr media
AFTER CASTLE TOWN. / O W E N.
SO. Owain survived the takeover meaning he has all of his memories from Awakening ( and Fates w/ the exception of Ophelia I guess since I’m a sucker for Leo’s terrible trio ).
His one token is a staff from his mother ( in-game , he actually keeps a piece of one of his mother’s staves that he named after her but this time it’s The Actual Staff. )
He works at the HQ because honestly in this world too he was a fucking nerd and he embraces that shit constantly !!
Unfortunately he CAN’T be all theatrical because he realized Castle Town is a way different world than his and because people already thought he was strange back there , that’d only increased tenfold.
. . . BUT HE STILL GETS IT OUT SINCE HE REGULARLY PLAYS D&D and also acts sometimes at the theatre !! ( did u know in the future past dlc he actually becomes a performer w/ inigo and brady in the end it’s Fun )
. . . He. He Also. Performs at children’s parties for some extra cash because they looooove his whole “legendary hero” schtick and it makes him happy so yeah there’s that too.
He likes a lot of things about Castle Town but again when he woke up and realized he was all alone AGAIN he really didn’t react well and basically . . . it was like the first time he got separated from his allies again. He’s gotten way more used to it now , but in the very beginning it was harsh.
His name’s now Owen bc I’m uncreative : )
He has parents he doesn’t really talk to - mainly because he knows they’re fake , and also they apparently weren’t the best fake parents either so he’s more dead set on finding his real parents again.
AND.... yeah that it that’s !! Honestly it on my boy. I’d love to plot with u all bc I plan on being awake a bit longer to finish up tasks and things so YEAH come 4 me.
Also bi as hell bc I do love projecting & also there’s no way Owain is straight thank u

M!Robin x Summoner!Reader rank C headcanons
Some hcs for if a M!Robin and the reader reached rank C in summoner support. Heavily based off of the interactions in Fire Emblem Heroes, just with a few extra things. It's unprompted but I wanted to post something as FEH just gave me waves of inspiration!
~Snack
Most of your nights already consisted of settling down in the castle’s library and scratching notes on parchment of the heroes you’ve summoned, allies they’ve mentioned in passing, but more importantly, any information you were able to gather about the opposing forces. Now, however, you find yourself to have some company while doing so.
Tumblr media
It hadn’t been long after you first summoned Robin, that he and you began to bond over long sessions of strategic planning. It started with him offering to help you lighten your own workload, to the two of you tag teaming theoretical expeditions, but several events happened prior to that arrangement. There weren’t as many heroes before Robin found himself inside the stone fortress, so you insisted on doing the planning alone, wanting what few heroes you had to train in the tower as much as they could. Being the sole tactician was proving to be strenuous over time, but even then you were not quick to accept his aid. To get around your stubbornness he would, in his words, ”just happen to be exactly where you are while you are working. The library is for everyone to use you know.” He would say while leaning over your shoulder, behind the chair you were slouching in, just to add, “oh, and in that scenario, if you placed me there instead, I could easily take him down.”
Tumblr media
It was nice having a lighthearted, albeit teasing interaction, but if that was not enough to open your eyes, he would certainly argue that two sets of them would work far more efficiently than one that’s clearly overworked, trying to solve the same scenario using no differing strategies, fifty times over. As much as you hated to admit it, he had a point. Eventually, if you kept this up, you’d collapse from exhaustion, or just generally break down from the stress of it all. After one more comment from him, that’s exactly what you found yourself doing.
Tumblr media
“I have no memories from before the time I met Chrom. But I still have a fine mind for tactics. Oh, you too? How intriguing.” To most, it might seem out of the blue, but that was the last push you needed to realize your own distress. Torn from your friends, your family, your life as a whole, to be thrown to the wolves in a war-torn fantasy world where people STILL used swords and to make things even more hard to grasp, here they also rode on DRAGONS.
Hell, it turns out according to what Anna said, some heroes ARE dragons. After listening to your venting, Robin seemed to understand your feelings, being more mindful when around you. He was patient, eyeing you as your breathing started to slow, gathering his own thoughts. Sure he was taken from his world, but it was still the same reality, it abided by the laws he learnt when at Chrom’s side. “...(Y/N), please...sit down...” He gestured to the chair you had gotten out of in the heat of the moment, his words bringing you back to reality. Talking to him like this, it helped you through a lot, even if he had no idea what a car, cellphone or karaoke was, he still listened.
Tumblr media
It took some time, but after calming down you figured you reached the route of the problem. Robin would assure you that everyone there believes in you but more importantly, would do whatever they could to protect you. You weren’t alone in this, there wasn’t a reason to hide away and handle it all yourself.
The feeling in the room shifted to being rather light-hearted, him taking your mind off of things for a while. From talking about Anna’s latest money-making scheme that failed miserably, or Alfonse’s mishap with a scarecrow that Sharena strategically placed in his room, to how Alfonse compared the two of you. “Well you're both tacticians, you wear an ominous cloak and have little to no memory of your past. He mentioned this not even a week after Robin’s arrival, bringing it up when he had seen the two of you working closely to determine Veronica’s next move. Robin and you chuckled over the memory, gesturing to how still to this day you chose to wear the garb in question.
You remembered that Sharena had picked up on how in sync the two of you were, saying something along the lines of, “it’s not just about the whole planning thing, it’s like at this point you don’t even exchange words you just know. You know what the other is thinking without even trying.” To which Anna added in passing that if it weren’t for the fact that you couldn’t fight, Robin and you would make a pretty good team.
That was enough to spark something in Robin. He set down his tome on the table immediately, grasping your attention. “Anna’s right.” You looked at him curiously, the cloak covering your features, but the tilt of your head gave it away. “She was right about...what exactly?” You weren’t sure if this was about being a great team or... disappointed that you, the summoner, were not capable of fighting in this domain. That was until he got up from his seat and leaned closer to you from across the table. “We make an undeniably good team (Y/N), which had me thinking. Some of the heroes who fight day to day together, they’ve started supporting each other...and so...” He paused briefly, gauging your current reaction and continued. “(Y/N), will you support me? And allow me to support you.” You had to take a minute to reflect on what it was he was asking you to do, after all, you were the summoner, someone with no weapons on hand. “Robin I...You know that I can’t fight, so then how would this hel-” Without letting you come up with your own conclusion he picked up where he left off. “(Y/N), you being there by my side, that’s enough for me. I promise. With you there the expeditions will be twice as successful, we may be able to free other heroes from their contracts. I know that with your support, I will be a better tactician.”
Tumblr media
Although it was unheard of, as you’ve never personally supported a hero before, you agreed. This would help the both of you, and in turn, your army. You couldn’t wait to start the next day by Robin’s side, helping him find tomes in the library that could be of use and observing him train in the tower, owning his skills as both a mage and as a tactician.
Tumblr media
Author's note!
So long story short as to why this took forever to post, I ended up breaking my phone which had the whole thing on it. This includes being unable to play the game as well. I’m currently working on getting that on my laptop instead so I can still play because dammit, I finally got Robin, not gonna let that go to waste.
Robin is one of my favorites (along with countless other characters, FE doesn’t have a shortage of them), but I’m still new to the series as a whole imo.
Also funny thing, I’m not summoner supporting M!Robin, it’s actually a different character. However, one of my best friends is supporting Robin and sends me screenshots. It was so cute I just couldn’t not write something!
