ok you don't know or care about this but the german word for 'lake', which is 'see' can sometimes, in certain contexts, be synonymous with 'sea' or 'ocean'; only the article changes ('der see' for lake, 'die see' for sea). all of this to say because... it's a lake after all xD

So I've decided to write as I go and not after watching the episode. Here are the thoughts on episode 5 of NATLA. Honestly, I'm dreading the time whenever I to watch it for some reason? Lol.
• That could make a SOLID YTP moment. Soldier shoots fire and Katara falls off the cliff.
• So THAT'S why you shouldn't date female guards.
• At least we saw Katara comforting Aang a weee bit.
• TSAMINAMINA AY AY WAKKA WAKKA AY AY
• Him telling them his son's name sounded so dumb. Like that one scene in Oshi No Ko when that one guy in the hospital suddenly blurts out, "Hey, what if I died now and got reborn as an idol's child!!?" Forced plot device.
• Zamn ya'll weren't lying about Jee x Zuko tension. We didn't get the dilf atleast we can make do with toxic yaoi.
• Ozai favours Zuko for some reason... Okay I know it was a little bit of that in the original show in the pirates episode a wanted poster of Zuko called him "the heir to the throne". But Ozai... umm.. manipulated Azula? Also she was the representation of gifted kids. Trying hard to get validation from her dad but it goes to her sibling? That's just a tamer Zuko.
• Am I running low on sleep or did Aang's reply to "You sounded more confident before." make no fucking sense at all???
• Oh so Katara's in it too? .....okay.
• MILF MILF MILF MILF MILF
• I feel like we won't have Bato of the Water Tribe... WHY DO YOU NOT WANT AANG AND SOKKA TO DEVELOP THEIR FRIENDHIP??????
• WAN SHI TONG?????!!!!!!! WHERE'S OHM???? WHERE'S MAH CRANKY BABOOOON??
• This the fog of lost souls ain't it
• Okay das was sad. 😢
• Okay so I'm guessing this isn't Sokka's worst memory but his worst fear. Since he didn't age regress like Katara and Hakoda left before he could be of age.
• GORDON DON'T CRY I CRY TOO 😭😭😭
• Called it
• FINALLY someone tells Aang it's not his fault I'M FUCKING CRYING FINALLY!! 😭💔
• y u keep separating da gaang?
• Pretty solid episode. They made some changes. Though I can't make up my mind on whether it's good change or bad change. There wasn't much Zuko so it felt lackluster. (Since he's probably one of the only characters the writers wanna write.)
• I heard the next episode is a zukaang episode? So I'm excited for that.

If they ever got in a huge fight, could Jay do his own channel and it be as popular as rlm?
Short answer: no
Long answer: I like Jay, and dislike Mike and a lot of his creative input. So the solution here sounds like it would be to kick out Mike out of the whole situation. But I truly don't think that the majority of people watch RLM for a specific guy, I'm an outlier in that sense. Fans watch because "a group of friends is cozy" (ahem less "their movie opinions are interesting" nowadays) and with Jay alone you wouldn't have that. I do know he used to have a group of buddies separate from Mike that he made movies with back in the day but I don't think he'd like to return to those days since he recoils when anything about that is mentioned. This point is important just because I think that there's a lot of channels with this same model that do good, a lot of big youtubers that took up the brunt alone of making videos/being the face of the channel have died out in the past few years (aka have become streamers).
In terms of typical "youtube content" the closest example though we have of "jay alone" is Quick Cuts, a series which I liked, but Jay did seem a bit uncomfortable with the format (As far as I remember he mentioned that? Correct me if I'm wrong). Another thing he apparently likes making is YTP-like edits which is uh probably what you'd see from him mixed in. The third reference point we have is of his last solo-project film-wise which was Pork Pork in Space and it lacks mainstream appeal...
Whether he'd completely reinvent himself à la Anthony from Sm*sh after leaving a duo-dynamic is up in the air honestly. I'd like to think he'd have more brains that Anthony in putting something solid together but I just think too that he's anything but a Jubilee-ish-sellout at heart and has some level of pride and rejection towards most things that sell. Though it can be said from all of them that they're very anti doing "fanservice for the video", "taking any sponsor", etc.

Something that’s really been bothering me lately is the “skibidi gyatt rizzler Ohio fanum tax” meme. It infuriates me that the only commentary around this meme is “Gen alpha stupid and bad, these memes make no sense, fuck Gen alpha.”
This sentiment is largely coming from millennials and Gen Z kids, who in turn grew up with ytp and sfm videos, postmodern memes, irony/post irony, etc. which were no better. I was really hoping that Gen Z would be able to break (or at least damage) the cycle of generational trauma and look at the problem from a different angle. Attacking the children who consume this media does nothing.
Instead, the targets of this anger should be the channels and groups who allow it to fester, who promote it and perpetuate it. The channels who produce the denigrating schlock are at fault here, not the children who don’t know any better.
I believe there’s still time to break the cycle because i don’t think this hatred has had time to solidify yet. If we turn our attention to the producers instead of the consumers, more could be done to cultivate a new, thinking, feeling, focused generation alpha. This current commentary does nothing to fix problems that already exist, it only serves to split the generations and their people more.

#<- but boss how does the use of tense plug in to the desire readings [about the past+present+future tense of bashir being closeted in the 23rd century post]
ghkjshfg o77777 👍 [buckles in] (no particular thesis just a playing in the space)
okay so the unanchor from time exist-in-every-tense-at-once is about Experiencing desire. being the Lover reaching out to a Beloved. so bashir until he experiences closeted gay desire is not the subject here it is the viewer. and helpfully shes already had a Ton of chapters about how texts that deal with desire are also making love to the reader/the reader is being seduced by (is IN the act of desiring) the text
ie the author is doing, ideally, all the moves that PROLONG and sustain erotic desire (keeping the lovers apart despite their wishes and the readers' thru plot complications that, ideally, uses lots of triangulating moves to let them ALMOST connect or connect indirectly but never consummate)
and the reader as the lover is reaching for something [framework review->] that they lack, that they identify would make them a more complete them, but attempts to integrate that into themself only encounter paradox - in a 'wholeness is unreachable' sense but also, kind of paradoxically in itself, in a 'freed from singular identity by the impossible heights the triangulation of metaphor can let u experience'. sense. ie: feeling fully that u exist in all tenses at once (usually wishing viscerally to prolong the present togetherness youre in or to already be in the togethered future you're kept from being in presently)
SO. here. we can backfill that the viewer (general viewer i will take closeted bashir as a universal truth lol) wants and reaches for the erotic connection of the text's acknowledgement of their reality, the textual reading of gay bashir. the viewer would be fulfilled by gay bashir. the viewer never achieves gay bashir. the viewer reaches thru time to find gay bashir and cannot find him. the viewer reaches thru the fourth wall back into their own world to find the various ways that mr siddig has played gay bashir and ensures gay bashir lives on outside the text but that still doesnt give them gay bashir. still to the various real-world forces that kept a mainstream 90s show from manifesting a gay bashir that explain the lack but, yet, does not give gay bashir. he is within reach: one can construct triangulating texts called Fanfics and YTP Edits that give an illusion of gay bashir or a canon-compliant explanation for closeted bashir but still... we cannot approach textually gay bashir but by the uncloseable distance of zeno's arrow (classic citation she uses).
the question of why was/is/will bashir (be) closeted (dude its fine you can relax) itself raises the tension that the character is cannot ease: he, as posited, yearns for something (to be gay) he cannot reach, sustained forever in erotic desire (for men) he cannot have.
and the lack reflects the real-world present/past experience of being closeted and the (given by the text, futile; given by the nebulous post-canon of mr siddig et al and many viewers, reachable) hope that the future wouldn't have that barrier to one's desire: we exist in the hopeful future. we exist in a bifurcated present, the reality of the lack of gay bashir and the indirect sense in which we have him: he is closeted.
we exist in a mimic of the imperfect tense that carries past actions into the present and makes closeted bashir eternal: he was closeted when created, he is closeted when we remember experiencing him, and he will be closeted every time we revisit the text.

i grew up watching animutations online.
for those of you who aren't internet old, like me, animutations are a style of flash animation that would basically be a "music video" for a song with frenetic animation using assets ripped from random websites (anime gifs, random stock photos, pictures of George Bush), extremely crudely drawn eyeballs and mouths, and heavy heavy use of flashing. making sense is optional and often discouraged. a recurring theme is using a song in a non-english language and misinterpreting the lyrics: "aimana style" from polysics's "new wave jacket" becomes "Einstein must die!", "opblaaskrokodil" becomes "old blue Scot called Dill", and so on. actual original art assets are vanishingly rare. Colin Mochrie is weirdly prominent. it's essentially the precursor of the YTP.
the animutation form was popularized by Neil Cicierega; many of the "classics" (such as Colin Mochrie vs Jesus H Christ) are attributable to him, to the extent that the word "fanimutation" arise to describe an animutations not made by Neil himself. he would, of course, later be well known for his mashup albums and songs, and we see the same pattern here: his work is made entirely out of other people's work, but with enough creativity to give it a new spin. mashing up the Inception soundtrack with YMCA, cutting up "My Name Is" by Eminem to give the impression of an amnesiac wandering an abandoned city looking for any other life, and so on.
horse_ebooks was a twitter spambot that would post random snippets of random ebooks in between linkspam to make itself look less like a bot. there is no attempt to pick "catchy" or coherent quotes (until it gets bought in 2011), but the hits are indescribably funny. quotes like "Everything happens so much" and "I will make certain you never buy knives again" enter the collective consciousness of the internet.
and then in 2023 I see people reacting to machine learning generative models by saying that it's impossible to be creative just by transforming and modifying other people's work because the AI "can't come up with anything new" and i can't help but imagine a world without these things.

Steamboat Willie YTP Update
Tumblr media
Solved the text issue. The preview was displaying the text as white when it was supposed to be black. I didn't realize the preview could be inconsistent like that.
I've shortened to video slightly to make it have less unedited stuff, to make the video less boring and repetitive. And I also hoped it would make YouTube not detect Steamboat Willie, but YouTube has sensed more than last time it would seem.
I hope the Copyright claims automatically clear on New Years when the copyright expires, I don't know if YouTube's copyright claims have inbuilt timers or if someone at YouTube has to manually remove them. I'll set a premiere to an hour or two after the last New Years for now, but if they don't clear automatically, I'll try uploading it again later on the evening of January 1st. If that fails, maybe I can incrementally upload edits on shorts or somewhere else, like here on Tumblr. Or I could stream the full edit on twitch. If YouTube can't remove the copyright claim at the right time, then it will be their fault for me directing people to other platforms.

Orrenlane's "The Couch Heard 'Round the Alley"
Requested by: @boarself
Tumblr media
You've probably seen a clip of this one if you've been on Tumblr in the past few months, it was making the rounds not too long ago. But I'll spare you the history lesson, and not just because I forgot when that was. Instead, let's cut to the chase immediately: does it live up to the hype, or is it one of those things best enjoyed in small portions?
Of all the YTP I've seen, I have to say, this one has both the highest high points and the lowest lows. There is absolutely no reason for it to be 12 minutes long. There's about 4 minutes of actual jokes, and about 8 of gibberish, loud noises, and word reversal 'jokes' that don't even make sense. Reversing something to say 'sauce' is funny, we all know what sauce is. Reversing something to say 'skelsibonjovlet' is not. (Usually, it depends on the context, but I'm not gonna delve to deep into that here.)
A truly enormous portion of the jokes are just people speaking gibberish. That's fine conceptually, it's a YTP after all, but there's limits to everything, and a solid half the runtime doesn't even KIND OF cohere. In my opinion, YTPs work because they modify the framework of their source material, still telling (kind of) a story but adding jokes and such, going coherent for just a bit to catch you off guard with some kind of absurd sex joke.
This YTP, sadly, has basically no semblance of even a mockery of a plot, so the truly good moments are overshadowed by the two minutes of loud random noises. I would cut it more slack if it were released in the mid 2010s, but this was released last year.
The jokes that are actually coherent are quite good though, and the visual gags are very well done. It's a shame there's not more of them, but it's clear a lot of work was put into the ones that were added. The sentence mixing is very good, but there's not enough of it for it to actually stand out. And hell, changing a sentence to "I cum in the ass" or something like that is a little overdone at this point if I'm to be brutally honest.
There's also one major thing I take issue with in this YTP, which may be just personal preference- the loud noises. There's a saying among some people that "loud = funny", and while loud things CAN be funny, they are not funny because they're loud. They're funny because they're unexpected or funny on their own. Unfortunately, most of the loud noises in this YTP come at the end of long strings of complete gibberish, which is entirely where you'd expect a loud noise. So mostly they're just unpleasant.
All of the individual elements of the YTP are solid, but like a cake made with 50% vanilla extract, even if the ingredients are fine, it's just not that good.
So what do I rate it?
3/10
"The Couch Heard 'Round the Alley" is a very good way to show how YTPs as a medium have evolved over time. In the 2010s, this would have been borderline revolutionary. The editing is very well done, the randomness would suit the online culture of that time better.
But times have changed. YTP's dadaist era has come to a close, and while echoes of it still remain, we've moved past post-structuralism into a sort of post-post-structuralism. Things have to make a bit of sense for it to be funny when they don't.
So, it's not terrible, and I'm not sure I'd call it 'bad' either, but it's definitely not good.
Overall, I'd say there's a lot of potential here, but you're basically getting the full experience just from the clips you see on Tumblr. The rest of the video is pretty much just filler, a hastily-built staircase to a mountain's peak. But of course, what's the point of a staircase if it collapses under most people's feet before they get to the top?
To use a less absurd metaphor, it's like a poorly-mixed mint-Oreo ice cream. There's some really tasty bits, but in between is a bunch of tasteless junk you have to eat anyways since it's part of the package.
Despite all that I've said, I do think this YTP is worth watching, at least for the good bits if you haven't seen them on Tumblr. Definitely don't use headphones for this one. Don't watch it with other people around, though. There's a surplus of sex jokes so flaccid I didn't even bother mentioning them.

Public Dream Journal Entry number 2
18:30 pm Tuesday 5 August 2023
Aphex Twin - Aisatsana
All I can remember are nightmarish details of what I assume was a brief dream I conjured in my mind during my semi-conscious state while crossing the lanes between being asleep and being alert.
I think I can remember someone like a dad's friend (most likely a student) giving me a CD. And I went up to my room to put it in there. I didn't have my Macbook Pro like always but instead it was a PC. Like a windows PC.
Tumblr media
I forgot some details here and there but then I was on an old 2000s anime music video website. Where I saw Tomo Takino in a ytpmv formatted video.
Tumblr media
Her screams were all choppy and edited to fit the song's melody like any other ytpmv. She also slammed her head on the floor face-down at times. All choppy, like I said. Then I saw a link that led to the original "meme" mv, which was a tf2 fan-made mv.
Tumblr media
When I clicked the link I was transported to a website that looked uncannily similar to know your meme. There on the thumbnail, I saw cirno and scout from tf2 performing choreography or something like that to the joke song. And it wasn't really even a ytpmv either, they were just...rapping.
Tumblr media
The strange part of the video was that, you know how youtube has the "chapters" feature? Well, this video was divided into sections, and they were SHOWN DIRECTLY. I remember there were several of them. But I could only remember one that said "DIVORCE" and "RATS RATS RATS".
Tumblr media
It was literally displayed like this. Then the dream ended, and those things were the only thing I could recount in accuracy.
They were rapping about Divorce?? And rats?? While dancing?? Cirno?? Scout?? And the tomo ytpmv was nowhere similar to the video with cirno and scout. It made no sense whatsoever.
And the weirdest part of all this is. I wasn't even watching ytps/ytpmvs, or consuming any touhou/azu/tf2 content. Well I mean I kinda was this whole week. But I was reading about <FRAMESETS> right before I fell asleep! How can that even happen?!

Disclaimers: I don't particularly like AI generated voices for anything other than public figure funnies, like the President Minecraft vids. If any person whose voice has been used as training or in an audio/video requests its removal that request must be respected by users/model programmers. As an artist, visual generation is really disheartening to me even though I know how it works and that I can make art with more soul than any model. I wish we'd stopped at Bloodborne Waterpark vomit level. Textual generation helps my autism/executive function by spitting ideas/todo lists at me, but ultimately, yes, they are only predictive text models and I much prefer asking real people for help.
But, technology marches on. I just hope the legal system/copyright is somehow able to catch up.
Anyways, genuine discussion question here. YTP sentence mixing, photobashing/photoshopping, idk... scrapbooking/clipped hostage letters vs predictive models. The morality of aural, visual, textual manipulation seems like a two headed snake: the ease of access and the realism of the result.
Anyone can get a voice sample in an AI model to say or sing something, with no experience in any editing software. This is an "easier" process than manually sentence mixing from existing audio. Does ease of access affect the morality of creating such a kind of derivative work? Does higher effort/skill required make something more morally "pure" in its existence? You can make exploitative fake NSFW images of someone through a generative model or through Photoshop, but that shouldn't affect the morality of the process: it's awful either way. But if it's easier to do is the process still morally worse?
Generated voices IMO are the most advanced of the three types. Images are still too "smooth" and incoherent/unfocused for their predicted pixels without a high level of editing involved, and text models can just make shit data up as long as it "makes sense" in the pattern of letters. Voices are the closest to reality as English-speaking, American humans hear others speaking English. But if with a high degree of skill, someone like a YTPer was able to sentence mix down to the inflections and subinflections and sine waves of a clean source and meticulously make something indistinguishable from that real voice source, would that be less moral or more moral than a predictive model generating the same end product? Is human involvement essential to morally-made art? (and one could argue that there is human involvement in a model: the programmers, mathematicians, scientists who created the tool itself)
And this isn't a question of if the end result is morally good to exist, it is a question of if the process is morally good due to human skill and to the realism of the result (through skill). I'm not sure if I could find someone who argues that Hedgehog Stew is a morally bad video/remixed song, or that Long John Baldry's memory is disrespected by using his performance as Robotnik to make a funny song. What would distinguish that process from using a voice model with his voice to sing the same song, aside from, of course, the end result probably being worse/soulless?
I'm sorry I don't have answers, just wanted to rant. Anyways. Everything is moving too fast. I don't like it.

What kind of videos would your characters post if they were Youtubers? Would they even want to be one at all or would they prefer to just watch or be part of a backstage editor/camera crew?
Not only the FNAF ones as humans but also the Fool's Endeavor gang!
Let’s be extremely honest here... Mari and Ennard would both have a let’s play channel and would be doing crossovers for multiplayer games whenever they could. XD Mari’s the story-driven one who focuses more on deeper experiences and existential horror. Ennard just likes good scares, body horror, and the story doesn’t matter unless the ending is bad- and if the ending is bad, Mari will tell you how to improve it. Ennard will “jokingly” tear it to pieces.
Mike’s the guy who pops up in the webcam whenever he walks into and out of the kitchen, and he doesn’t care. Occasionally he pops up in one of Mari’s videos. Sometimes when they’re playing a game that takes a little more skill with a controller. Typically older, emulated games. Sometimes Jeremy, Fritz, and Natalie get involved if it’s a big enough multiplayer game.
Charlie has DIY channel where she shows simple repairs and occasionally craft videos, which Mari sometimes joins in on. She occasionally posts song covers at Baby’s insistence. Every once in a blue moon, Baby posts song covers anonymously on Charlie’s channel.
Foxy and Jeremy run a channel that’s pretty much 100% Pirate Cove marketing. They do unboxings, show new merchandise, and react to old Freddy movies and cartoon episodes, but they also provide news about upcoming events and do giveaways. Their fanbase ships them. Fritz works on Foxy and Jeremy’s channel as “the crew”.
Balloon Boy has a successful(?) YTP based channel. He’s still using Mama Luigi and somehow it’s still working. He also likes going into random comment sections and leaving controversial hot takes, but then replies to every reply with: “no u”.
Louise has a hair and makeup tutorial channel that focuses on getting great results without having to pay much. She’s gotten big enough that companies are now sending her free makeup to try on camera. She underplays how much she loves it because she knows she could never afford it on a regular basis.
Moondrop, A.K.A. DroppingtheBoom666, does Majora’s Mask glitchless speedruns and spends the entire time complaining about how long it’s taking BOTW 2 to come out. Stop asking where the Sun is or he’s going to block you.
Now we get onto A Fool’s Endeavor. Thankfully, we have a much shorter list here. The only ones who would likely be Youtubers are Lure and Balsam, as Morrick and Yves are definitely more reserved. Morrick doesn’t go for the attention and Yves is deathly afraid someone might recognize him.
Balsam’s channel is largely education based. He teaches survival techniques, including on the fly first aid, gardening tutorials, and sometimes tells stories that his mentor told him. His most popular videos are the series he does discussing and breaking down historical plagues, bizarre illnesses, and gruesome medical treatments from throughout history.
Lure’s channel is a cluster of various things. He makes videos explaining mythology and the origins of legends and fairy tales, lore videos talking about his favorite movies and games, does song covers and various instrument tutorials, and just whatever he feels like. Unlike Balsam, who takes his channel a lot more seriously, Lure just does whatever he wants and sees what sticks.  ...Except when it comes to D&D. It took Lure two months to make that character creation tutorial and tips video: “How to build the Best Bard”.  ...And then there’s his passive-aggressive rant about Fable. It’s his only video that’s reached one million views and he’s not exactly happy about it. ...And since he’s mine and we’re already breaking the laws of the world- having someone from a medieval fantasy suddenly becoming a Youtuber- I’m also claiming him as a hardcore Oddworld fan.
Well, I hope that gave you a good idea of... Well, this. XD As weird as this is. Hope you can make some sense of it!

i am SO delighted to hear that the "detective and five people trapped on an elevator and one of them is the devil" movie is real and you saw it. also while trying to send this i accidentally clicked the Unfollow button (and then promptly refollowed), sorry about that
lmao i maybe wouldn’t’ve noticed, love Tumblr Notifications and how like, they display different on desktop vs mobile and the way it Condenses them is only so helpful cuz sometimes some of them only display for 0.2 seconds while i’m on mobile and it hasn’t Refreshed in a way that reshuffles everything and i can’t view that particular [Like from a certain person or smthing] ever again lmao like i hate this, it’s bad, just like that movie about people trapped on an elevator and a detective has to get them out and has to act fast b/c one of them is the devil
it is so stupid first of all like. it’s just overall not a great movie from Any of the angles it’s playing like. first of all the Detective is only around b/c he’s solving a nearby murder / death and making like. corny dumb “oh this is a Smart guy” observations about the Scene and someone is like “oh hey @ cops you’re already on the premises, come solve the mystery of Elevator Broke” like i don’t think that’s how it works and also i can’t even remember the reason they find this issue That pressing pre-realizing And One Of Them Is The Devil. maybe someone dies right off, idk. there is conflict on the elevator so naturally that’s a whole other thing like, we’re all trapped in this elevator together and maybe one of us is untrustworthy and liable to be dangerous to the rest of us like, i don’t know the Contrivance that makes these people think anything has to be done but just Stand Around for a while but it’s you know. that whole Thing where there’s a premise of “some shit is happening to Incite Conflict amongst strangers who are trapped in a bad situation together and they’re all apparently raring to judge each other’s moral fiber to decide who deserves Suspicion vs Protection.” but also, one of them is the devil
meanwhile on the outside it’s this dumb Cop Mystery Drama where this rando guy apparently sets aside the death he was investigating earlier to solve this elevator situation (i think eventually it’s revealed that that death was tied to the elevator situation all along. i think that the devil killed the guy. or something) and also, maybe there was Coincidentally some kind of heist going on at this place b/c i remember at some point the detective (and some partner there too involved in all this) like, find some tools hidden in a bathroom like “aha this was Used to do [whatever]” and despite having no idea what the details are i Know i remember this b/c of at the time going “oh my god that is so dumb Nobody Would Do This / this makes no sense” lol like. writing not great. and this was maybe Not the devil, but a regular separate scheme to. do something
also there’s some aspect where Main Cop has some tragic backstory and is like, not over it b/c it was so painful. i think maybe someone like hit and run his wife or something like that. you know how it goes. spoilers in that i think the person that the devil is here to kill (more on this devil assassination thing....) was Behind That somehow lmfao so it’s like really??? is that our resolution, that people’s stories are Converging in a very serendipitous way b/c the devil would like to give people emotional catharsis......idek. look, spoilers, this old lady who “dies” in the elevator relatively early on turns out to have been The One Of Them Who Is The Devil, Act Fast. and it was this weird thing where the devil is like “grr whoever i’m even here to Get in the first place is just Such A Bad Person that uhhh i guess i came here in person to take them to hell” like.....what tf kind of Lore......this is definitely going with “aaaah the devil is evil” approach, not any more kind of Neutral figure, but then in the end apparently the evil devil is just really Judgey and Disgusted by someone being A Bad Person like??? you ought to love this shit!!!!! and anyways the detective learns that One Of Them is The Devil b/c when they take him up to the security camera display hq it’s like a) look at this scary Moment where the elevator camera feed gets staticky and a scary face appears for a moment (im not sure if i could see what it was supposed to be lmfao) This Means Something and okay oh my god i reread the plot summary b/c for the life of me i couldnt remember the ending, it is so stupid oh my god
okay so first of all the Dead Person the detective was investigating had left like a suicide note like “i am killing myself b/c um. the devil approacheth” like wow okay right off the bat? amazing foreshadowing. why does this person Know this?? and why should he care b/c the devil is here apparently for a Special Soul Collection like, this has nothing to do with you, random guy?? you don’t even need to worry like. just stay home from work to avoid the fairly minor problems that occur (like MAYBE one guy dies in the course of this story but i think it’s a little ambiguous, meanwhile whoever Really Dies in th elevator was i think due to like, suspicion and infighting lmao. idk maybe the devil killed a few of them. it’s weird) but yeah the highlight is this
everyone please enjoy this scene. security guy ramirez is explaining the Devil Expertise courtesy of Where I Come From where toast falling jelly side down is evidence that the devil is hanging out in the elevator.
while looking up “devil toast” the result immediately after that one was “the devil takes the toast” which is a devil takes the hindmost ytp which i feel is really fitting
it kind of undercuts the stakes i think when not only is the devil only sorta gently radiating Bad Luck but also is just super Righteous but like. yes it turns out that the devil is here to Claim a guy on the elevator was the same dude who Hit N Run the detective’s family (wife and kid apparently) those years prior......except like, it wasn’t even like oh he assassinated them On Purpose, it’s apparently already a Known Detail that although they ~never knew~ who killed detective joe’s family (idk what his name is idc) there was a Note left on the scene like “sowwy :(” like really? this is the Big Bad that the devil made a special corporeal visit for??????? and then, get this, when the devil is like “i’m not a dead old lady, i’m the devil, and i’m here to Get you b/c you accidentally killed a couple of people and i, the devil, am really disgusted by how sinful you are for that” the guy is like “yes that was me :’( i’m sorry” and then the devil is like “ah fuck you’ve Repented. i can’t take you to hell anymore. bye” like what!!! why did he only have to feel bad about it to get out of this whole situation when obviously he Felt Bad in the first place b/c he up and left a note like “[grimace emoji] aaa my bad” like, did he have to apologize To The Devil?? the lore i s2g. Jelly Toast Rules operating here i guess.
anyways then the detective who witnessed this i guess is like “wow the guy who killed my family all those years ago but i’m still sad about it.....well i’m gonna arrest him now. but also, I Forgive Him.” oh and also for a while there the detective was so gritty he didn’t believe in The Devil b/c the vehicular manslaughter apparently made him think that human nature was evil enough to not need the extra help. so now he’s made the arc of getting uh, emotional closure on his family’s death by forgiving the dude who i guess super crashed into them on accident, And gets to know that the devil is real actually and he’s on the elevator but now Not b/c he was like “ah jeez thwarted by this guy uh, feeling bad about the accidental deaths even though he felt bad in the first place” and there was no other point to the detective being there b/c he didn’t Really do shit except i guess drive this sideplot where you are led to believe he Might figure out who the Bad Guy on the elevator is. (it is the devil. one guy has a crime record or something but, spoilers, he is trying to turn his life around with some good honest work as a security guard or something. idk)
it was amazing and very stupid and i was continually indignant b/c the writing was dumb and made no sense and just so fucking corny throughout. the entire movie is called “devil” and i remember it was like “tf is ‘devil’” and as soon as it involved an Elevator i was like omg omg is this And He Has To Act Fast Because One Of Them Is The Devil, and it was, so that was exciting. it was a dumb waste of time but also it was not b/c it was *slightly* so bad it’s good. mostly Not Even. but just watch the toast scene there b/c like. i think that’s this movie’s #1 contribution outside that post about the plot summary.

Psst! Hey, you over there!
Do you like Dynasty Warriors? Do you have a sense of humour? Do you watch stuff on YouTube?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you’re bound to enjoy Dynasty Hijinks!
What is this “Dynasty Hijinks” thing?
It’s a series of YouTube Poops (YTPs) that lambastes the Dynasty Warriors franchise almost into complete submission. It’s crammed with running jokes, comedic timing, and a hearty dose or two of Chaos Sauce. Nothing is sacred, aside from the Rule of Funny.
Why should you watch it?
There are many reasons, which include:
Brushing up on Pokémon trivia (the hard way)
Pursuing Lu Bu, with a mammary-themed twist
Conquering every part of the multiverse, from the Mushroom Kingdom to Narnia
Laughing at people as they fall over, explode, and/or generally make fools of themselves
Commanding asses, officially
More important than all of these, however, is this: supporting a small-scale creator on YouTube who gets almost no recognition for the effort and thought put into their videos. Perhaps this will illustrate my point:
Tumblr media
What's that? Computer, enhance!
Tumblr media
You see those numbers? Barely over a thousand views and not even 50 likes for a six-and-a-half minute video (every single one of which is quality stuff), from a series that’s been running for 24 episodes?! And that subscriber count? Well...
That simply won’t do!
So, I say to you, denizens of the Dynasty Warriors fandom: go! Watch these videos, and leave a like or two if you enjoyed what you saw.
Here’s a link to the complete playlist. Have fun!
Oh, and here’s a necessary disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Thiji’s channel, nor have I been asked, paid or at all encouraged by Thiji to endorse their videos. I’m simply a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series that wishes there was more entertaining content like this to go around, so I want to spread the word. Maybe you will, too?

Creative Journal
30/11/20- Week 9
Sessions Themes: This week there was no taught session and instead we were encouraged to arrange a 1-to-1 tutorial with James. During our meeting I explained that I have been “backdating” some of these journal entries and how I’ve found it useful in terms of refreshing my memory on what we learned in class. Although most of these entries are dictated by my in-class notes (or often out-of-class catch-up), being able to flick through the lecture slides in order to decode some of my faster notes in order to extend on them in a way that my brain will be able to understand is huge. I often find myself struggling to understand the notes i jot down when i go back through, and so through doing this not only do i feel it’s better cemented in me memory but I’m also able to change my notes so that they make more sense to me out of context.
DSD: For my Do Something Different activity this week I’ve been working on replacing negative reinforcement with positive. I know I’ve mentioned it before in terms of classwork but “analysis paralysis” is a very real feeling for me and i often decide against approaching a task because I overanalyse it and freak myself out, whereas in reality actually doing the task probably isn't that difficult I’ve just overthought it. Literally the best way i can think to describe it is “paralysis” because in my mind if i start making moves to do the task I’ll become overwhelmed, which then leads to me sitting around and getting upset with myself for not being able to do anything, Such a silly and irritating cycle to get myself into. So recently, in the spirirt of getting my assignments done, I’ve been trying to focus on telling myself “I want to pass fist year” instead of “You should be doing uni work right now”. It’s taking it’s time and I’m still struggling not to put too much pressure on myself but hopefully this can develop into a long-term thing and I’ll learn to become more motivated.
Tumblr media
Inspiration: Some interesting media I’ve been looking at this week are “Dance Mom edits” on YouTube. The early 2000s on YouTube birthed a genre of comedic editing known as “YouTube Poops”. “ A YouTube Poop (YTP) is a type of video mashup or edit created by remixing/editing pre-existing media sources often carrying subcultural significance into a new video for humorous, satirical, obscene and profane, as well as annoying, confusing, scary, shocking, surreal, or dramatic purposes.” “ Lawrence Lessig, Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, compared this aspect to a form of call and response, here seen as being prominent within remix culture”(Wikipedia)
When these kind of videos were popular and i was of the age to partake, i didn’t find these edits enjoyable and always thought the over the top and sometimes slapstick comedy was immature and didn’t add anything to the original media it was taken from. Alongside this, i never watched Dance Moms when it was on TV and have only ever seen short clips from it on Facebook watch or IGTV. That's why I found the resurgence of this phenomena so interesting, because it combines two things I otherwise wouldn’t have been interested in and yet i find it so compelling. I think with the rising trend of “Y2K” fashion and aesthetics, older reality TV shows are coming back too, such as Paris Hilton’s The Simple Life and early episodes of Kitchen Nightmares, Which would explain why Dance Moms is all of a sudden all over the internet too. The type of humour is exactly the same, but i think online culture has changed in a way that I’m now able to enjoy these as some kind of “abstract humour” as opposed to thinking it was just “loud noise + warped image = funny”. It may also be to do with my own social development too. Although i was super into the internet as a kid i had very niche “special interests” and so perhaps i just didn't understand as many of the pop culture references at the time and couldn't see the humour in it.
