BACKSTORY

capricorn sun / virgo moon / scorpio rising

raised by her uncle Big (his name) who is a hermit shut in town local in the depths of the florida marshland like some goosebumps protagonist. hes gone far past socially acceptable in terms of his ability to connect with the modern person but is wise beyond belief... his whole vibe is a warped cross between a cryptid and a mountain man that forages and cooks neighborhood plants. married for 27 years before his wife passed from illness. its quite possibly the only thing hes ever been emotional about

but dels entry to his life throws a wrench in his sadness (despite abandonment being what they bond over). she takes the focus away from his loss with her presence; her dad, his brother, died in a tragic train-car collision around the same time (which is speculated to be a suicide bt nobody can ever really be sure). he was a single parent so her custody is thrown up in the air for a few months as cps decides what they r gna do with this freshly orphaned little scrapper

she just kinda turns up on his doorstep n from there they cohabit a space. shes arnd 6-7 at this time... big never seemed to b phased by the fact tht she was a child n tended to treat her more like an apprentice or guest. he was never close to her father because of their age difference, being the older out of the two, so to have his daughter become his responsibility is just..... weird

this doesnt mean that he wouldnt provide for her bt it was. not very parental whatsoever.... no conversation or interaction beyond what was necessary. she was a mute fr a while and still is? to a degree.... very short spoken

when she got to her preteens he offered her an allowance in exchange for little odds and ends of stuff to be taken care of around the house. errands n all tht.... sometimes he wld purposefully leave things for her to pick up n take care of without mentioning it for a bonus. taught her the importance of saving your money and the horrid corruptness of a society basing everythings worth off paper. big exposed her to a lot of knowledge and took advantage of her silent curiosity by fueling it with books, homeschooling, life skills (catching a fish, setting a trap, knowing your berries in the woods...... the works)

her teens carried out the same way bt with the introduction of a real job, a spot down at the local butcher shop checking people out at the register and helping around the back of house. del knows a great deal abt cow/pig/chicken/etc anatomy from her years here..... she committed to being 100% vegan into her early twenties because of her trauma frm this occupation

it paid very well tho n was the best gig she was going to get within a reasonable biking route from home. so she settled!

the plan wasnt to keep it up for long anyway. she worked rly hard for her spot at yates and didnt intend to ever screw herself over. her plan was to get her bachelors, masters, become a professor, pursue a personal hobby of agriculture and build an elaborate greenhouse to live in

bt things happen..... 

some 35yr old douche with a green thumb woos her at a gardening store n swoops in to teach her a little more abt romance; all of this, of course, under the guise that he had all these tips and tricks for living environmentally friendly. a lame hippie wannabe that shouldve never even approached her bt alas.... he did

love is a touchy subject n it hadnt been something she set her sights on, but she was interested in wht this dude could teach her n at 19 she ended up falling in love. she delayed her education to stay an extra year back home and work out another plan which included him

this was very disappointing to her uncle bt he didnt have anything to say abt it. it was never parental before n it was never going to be, so this was another lesson she wld just have to overcome on her own

it turns out that she doesnt care for infidelity. when the confession comes out its met with a lot of screaming, bawling, blistering white hot anger. the whole incident is blacked out of her mind to b honest....

matters of the heart are no longer something to concern herself with because of the repercussions of her rash behavior regarding heartbreak O________O she spent a year in jail n still has to attend therapy / anger management meetings

deep down she is still hurting. there was a lot of pain... bt the sadness is not over the loss of some noob. she is in a state of constant disappointment, detaching from herself out of shame. putting her own life on pause only for it to turn out like that? stupid stupid stupid... 

PERSONALITY

chugging along! tldr spectre-like swamp nymph aura with the slightest (not so slight) unhinged feral tendencies

delicate like a moth resting in the gleam of a flashlight.... her anger singes her wings when shes too comfortable staying in one place, so theres always constant stimulation, always shifting gears. shes prone to feeling threatened; that being said, sadie is wary of walking in crowds, a little bit skittish when approached without making eye contact beforehand. like a small grey kitten..... in a big wide world

has a hard time keeping a conversation bt is very interested in debate, and even more so in studying alongside someone in complete silence. it reminds her of home in the same sense tht her uncle wld nudge her to keep reading by always having his own book open

doesnt have many friends and is alright with that. rumors are tht she is still a virgin bt who really knows? not i...... bt i wldnt be surprised if this was true. shes not impressed by people nor material items so this whole yates crowd is a turn off

she is truly clueless when it comes to how to behave around anyone her age. i think she understands but it just doesnt compute. she could come off as impolite bt it is just standoffishness? some people cld try to crack her but i dont think even she knows what that would be, or what that would look like. even in her one (1) failed relationship it was never deep heart to hearts or sharing dinner..... solitude is her realm

del is very comfortable with herself, very open with her wardrobe! doesnt leave too much to the imagination? she appreciates the human experience n expresses that thru this whole “body is a temple” type thing.... not quite confidence, but proudness of being. has gotten multiple notices frm professors for her tops being too sheer, nylons too ratted up, etc. has dirt under her fingernails half the time, chipped polish, some chapstick. smudges her eyeshadow on with her fingers

doesnt smoke cigarettes all too often but is dependent on weed. it kinda perpetuates her paranoid demeanor bt at the same time it keeps her lax enough to be able to mentally handle city life

her room is a playground for huge monstera plants, christmas cacti, ivy creeping along the doorway. she sleeps on a tiny thin mattress on the floor with a linen sheet and has her books stacked up on the ground next to it to hold her ashtray. the whole thing is dumb empty

takes her studies seriously and pinches every penny she can..... she has never ordered herself a coffee frm somewhere before, ordered food frm a restaurant... nothing. i wld think the most she would branch out from harvesting everything on her own is buying a bag of sunflower seeds frm a gas station, but even then, she much prefers eating stuff she grows herself. has a tomato plant, some basil beginning to sprout, etc.... manageable crops for any college students tiny space

bt yea thats it thats all! connections cld be all over the place. im legit open to anything. theres only a few tht come to mind right off that bat: 

a few people that get along with her? same classes? they shared a bowl n now theyre getting into the nitty gritty of some personal conversation that is veering into no mans land....

some sort of clueless makeover moment? arent rly into sadie as a person bt see a lot of potential... perhaps need a plus one to a party on the fly and figure thats the best option theyve got

crushes? this wld be fun n potentially dangerous! like playing with a hot cast iron pan or something :)

Volleyball Player!Taehyung (High School!AU)

position: starting opposite

year: junior

skills: blocking, play-reading, teamwork, cheerleader

so opposite is on the opposite side of the setter on the court

so he’s basically a good all-around player

bc he needs to be able to set the ball if the setter can’t

and block the other team’s spikes

and spike during offensive plays

tae is actually really good at reading the opponent’s plays

so he calls out where the ball is headed

if he spots it in time

he actually learned that skill from watching so many volleyball matches in his free time when he was younger

even though the opposite position is kind of weird and not super specialized

tae is so happy to be doing it

bc he gets to do a little bit of everything

whereas johnny focuses on spiking and blocking

and taeil focuses on setting

taehyung gets to practice everything

he’s also happy with the position bc he isn’t super confident in any specific skill

so he appreciates being able to work on it all

although taehyung isn’t the captain and it’s really all that interested in being one

he is really great at teamwork

and being close with all of his teammates

he just easily gets along with everyone

and he always finds a way to make practice more entertaining with his goofy, playful self

so everyone really loves having him around

during matches taehyung is very loud

if there are any team cheers they do after an ace or something

he’s the loudest

and when he’s on the bench

he is super loud

cheering for his teammates

especially if they do really well that play

but even if they made a silly mistake

taehyung is exclaiming his love and proudness from the bench

and whenever he does well during a play

you’re in the bleachers cheering him on just as loud

and it makes him feel so much better and more confident

and keeps him going

even when they’re getting their ass kicked

but you’re always at his games

even the away games that are over an hour away

you can’t not watch your best friend

and you’ve always been at his games

even when he was first starting

you were neighbors and you always played with him in elementary school

and when he joined a volleyball team, you’d beg your parents to take you to his games

and when they said no you would just run over to taehyung’s house and ask his parents

who always let you come bc they were going there anyway

so you would show up early to every game bc you always showed up when taehyung had to be there

so you got to watch him warm up with his coach and teammates

and he always had a smile on his face

even when he missed the ball

or hit it too far

and that actually got him into trouble with one of his coaches

the coach thought he wasnt taking the sport seriously and punished the whole team by making then run more ladders

and his teammates tried to explain to the coach that he is just really happy

but it really never worked

and that coach was fired after that season

anyway

bc you’re always at his games and cheering loudly for him

his teammates are familiar with you

and all the freshman ask him if you two are dating

especially when you run to give him a hug when they win

but he just giggles and says

“they’re my best friend”

and yuta and taeil and youngjae whisper to the freshman

“they’re both in denial”

“they like him and he likes them”

and jungwoo decides that you two would make such a great couple

so he starts to make a plan to get you two to admit your feelings for each other

along with the help of bambam

and some of their teammates - just for information on you two

so homecoming is coming up in a couple of weeks

and jungwoo and bambam think it’s the perfect opportunity to set you two up

even though it’s a time focused on football

they can’t pass it up

bc it’s really the only thing for the volleyball season

jungwoo asks taehyung if he’s going to the homecoming dance before practice one day

“probably. why?”

“are you gonna go with y/n?”

“do you wanna go with them?”

“no- i was just wonder-”

and before they can continue the coach blows their whistle and practice starts

and jungwoo got NOTHING from the whole thing

except for tae to think he wants to go out with you

bambam sits with you at lunch and asks if you’re gonna go to the dance

“i don’t know”

“you should come”

“with you?”

“i was thinking you should go with taehyung”

“why were you thinking that?”

“because you’re so close. it’d be fun”

bambam fumbles trying to not come off too suspicious but

too late

later that day

when you were hanging out with taehyung at his house

you bring it up

“bam asked if i was going to go to the dance today. do you know why he asked me?”

“i don’t. but jungwoo asked me if i was going too.”

“weird”

“he asked if i was going with you”

“bam said i should go with you”

and your heart is kinda just thumping hard

bc you rlly like him

and also bc you’re just kinda like

wtf is jungwoo and bambam thinkin

what are those two up to

“do you wanna go?” tae asked

“yeah...”

“with me?”

and your heart skips a beat

“do you wanna go with me?” you asked back

and tae just smiles back at you

“sure. it’ll be like those middle school dances we went to”

which just makes you laugh

and somehow jungwoo and bam’s plan worked

and you two go to the dance together

and tae’s teammates are just as surprised as jungwoo and bam

so when the dance comes

you both just look so stunning

but it hasn’t changed your goofy personalities

at the dance you spend a lot of time with tae’s teammates

unless you were on the dance floor with your own friends or tae

and then a slow song starts playing

and you don’t rlly know what to do

but tae

so smooth, like like a snake

puts his hands around your waist and leads you into a slow dance

you couldn’t help but smile

and blush a little

but tae didn’t seem to notice

“i didn’t know you liked slow dancing”

“i usually don’t but it’s hard to dance differently with this song”

cue jungwoo and bambam dancing together and getting closer to you two

“they gotta admit their feelings tonight right?!”

“if they don’t they’re both stupid”

cut to the end of the dance and they play one last slow song

and tae holds his hand out

“care to dance?”

and you take his hand and head out to join the swaying crowd

as the song continues

you get closer

until you’re resting your forehead on his shoulder

and he’s basically hugging you

cue the whole volleyball team watching and cheering quiet enough to not be heard by you two

and on the way home

as tae is driving

your heart is just so full

and you’re so happy

you never want to get home

just to spend the rest of the night with him in his car

when he pulls into his driveway

neither of you move to get out of the car

“thanks for coming with me” you say

“no problem. i had a lot of fun.”

“tae, can i tell you something?”

“yeah of course”

“i- uh- i like you”

“i like you too” tae chuckled as he said it

“no like i really like you”

“oh- i really like you too”

and now you two are dating :))))))

the team hears about it on monday

and everyone hugs jungwoo and bambam

bc finally

you two have stopped being so oblivious

not much has changed between you two

like you still go to all of his games and cheer for him

and hug him after games

and hang out like always

but now you kiss and hold hands and just touch each other a lot more

you still are very goofy and playful with each other

and tae actually seems even happier especially on the court

even the coach can tell there is a difference in his attitude

but he isn’t really sure what changed

nor does he really want to know

he’s just impressed that taehyung can be even happier than he already was

 but that’s just the power of you

A little late, but here’s Day 4 for @kyluxromanceweek with “Secret Crush.” More office AUs, because why not. 

Hux can’t help but scowl when he returns to his cubicle, fresh cup of coffee in hand, to find a little wrapped box sitting just in front of his keyboard.

He narrows his eyes at it, as if his stare could wither the sparkly red bow sitting innocently atop the shiny golden paper. It’s not the first strange gift he’s received in the past few weeks, and honestly? They’re starting to wear on his nerves.

He growls as he sets his steaming coffee cup on the desk and picks up the box, looking down his nose at it as he turns it over in his hands. Of course there’s no tag. Whoever is doing this clearly doesn’t want to be found out.

Hux shakes the gift, considering just dumping it in the trash and forgetting about it altogether, but instead he pulls at the red bow and slips it off before tearing into the paper. Beneath he finds a silky red box, a name Hux recognizes from the high-end grocery store he occasionally frequents scrawled in gold on top. He pries open the lid and wrinkles his nose at the fancy chocolates nestled inside—the kind of heavy, indulgent sweets that Hux hardly partook in. He scowls and stuffs them into his laptop bag, trying to put the gift far from his mind so he could get the afternoon’s work done.

Whoever thought it funny to play such a joke wasn’t going to get a rise out of Hux that easily.

The following day Hux returns from a trip to the bathroom to find a single rose, lovingly wrapped in red ribbon, siting in his mesh pencil holder. Hux frowns, plucking the rose out and peering around the wall of his cubicle to where Phasma sits at her desk, phone cradled against her shoulder. She shoots Hux a quizzical look, signing off from the call and setting it back in its cradle.

“What is it?”

“Did you see who left this?” He brandishes the rose at her, eyebrows furrowed. She glances at the rose for a moment, before smirking.

“You got an admirer?”

“Of course not,” Hux hisses, shaking the stupid flower. “Someone is obviously trying to make a joke out of me. Make me look like some kind of lovesick fool.”

Phasma laughs, turning around in her chair to face him.

“You know, most people would be happy to get free gifts, even if it was from a stranger.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Lighten up a little.”

Hux scowls, folding his arms.

“I’ll ‘lighten up’ as soon as I figure out who is doing this. I want you to keep your eyes and ears open next time I leave my desk, see if whoever they are shows themselves.”

“Yes sir,” Phasma taunts as he storms back to his cubicle, stuffing the rose in one of his drawers before getting back to work. He gets up to grab coffee , but to his surprise and slight disappointment no new gifts grace his desk, and Phasma tells him she didn’t notice anything.  

When Hux comes to work early the next morning, there’s a massive bouquet of roses sitting daringly in his chair.

The gifts only grow more extravagant as the days go on. A little gift bag filled with delicate macarons and rolls of fruit pastilles. More flowers, this time a striking bunch of black lilies. A half-sized bottle of Prosecco. A small porcelain figure of a cat—which, despite himself, Hux actually likes, and sits on the little shelf above his computer as soon as he unwraps it.

And still he’s been unable to figure out who’s responsible, or why they’re doing it.

He’s sure it must be a prank, but there’s no one in the office he believes would go to such lengths. These kind of gifts are expensive, nothing even the most dedicated would throw away on some silly joke.

Then why?

Periodically he considers Phasma’s suggestion, that he has a true admirer—but he isn’t exactly well-liked among his coworkers. He’s more than competent in his work but rather cold when it comes to socializing, not interested in gossip or debate with the rest of the office. Hux is the type to keep his personal life far removed from his professional life, disinterested in indulging his colleagues’ incessant need for small-talk.

He can’t imagine any of them wanting to become—romantically involved with him.

So maybe it really is a joke at his expense. Perhaps the entire office pooled their funds together, just to lead Hux on, make him believe anyone could ever be interested in him. Maybe they were just waiting for him to fall for it, so they could

Honestly, Hux can’t wait for the weekend, where he might be free of all this nonsense for two blissful days. He checks his watch as he returns from his lunch break, hoping the next few hours will fly by, so he can spend his time in the solitude of his apartment with his cat and favorite books.

But as Hux approaches his cubicle he stops dead in his tracks, lips parting in surprise at what he sees—not another bouquet of roses nor box of chocolates, but a besuited man with long, dark hair barely tamed back against his head.

Hux recognizes him instantly.

Ren, one of the upper managers that Hux rarely even saw in his department, though he certainly heard plenty of rumors about the man. He apparently came from a wealthy family, and Hux has heard grumblings that may have influenced his appointment. From the few times Hux has encountered him, he seems a touch too changeable for such a position, but otherwise he’d never given the man much thought.

Until now, when he notices the wrapped box in Ren’s hand, topped with the same kind of red ribbon as all the other gifts Hux has received.

“You’re kidding,” is the first thing to come out of Hux’s mouth, in a wholly unprofessional manner but he can’t hold back. He stares at the gift in Ren’s hands, then up to the man’s face, feeling a conflict of emotions roil in his stomach at the amused expression he finds there.

“Nope. Just really good at sneaking around.” Ren smirks, looking quite satisfied with himself. Hux frowns, heart fluttering even as his mind reels in denial.

“I thought this was all a joke…it’s not a joke, is it?” He asks, taking a step back. Ren’s face falls slightly, frowning.

“No? Why would you think it was a joke?” He fidgets with the gift, confident posture taking a slight hit. “Did you not like the things I got you?”

“I—that’s not—that’s beside the point,” Hux stammers, regretting the flush he can feel crawling to his cheeks. “But I didn’t realize anyone here would be…serious about me. Much less a junior manager.”

He’d gone through a list of suspects in his head several times and had at least considered Ren, but quickly dismissed the possibility. Hux can’t wrap his head around the fact that Ren was responsible for this all along—but perhaps he’d been just that good at concealing his feelings. Biding his time, plying Hux with little gifts and presents until he felt confident enough to confront him.

It’s a little endearing—which is not a word he ever thought he’d ever ascribe to someone like Ren.

“I’m serious. Very serious.” Hux takes the wrapped box as Ren holds it out to him. His heart beats a little quickly as he pulls at the bow, taking the little lid off. His eyes widen at what he sees underneath, lips parting in surprise.

Nestled in a bed of white silk are a pair of golden cufflinks, dotted in the center with a dark red stone. Truthfully they’re a little too gaudy for Hux’s taste but he’s still bewildered by the gesture.

Alright. It’s definitely not a joke.

Ren moves in closer, and as Hux inhales sharply he can detect the strong scent of his cologne.

“Wear them tonight?”

“Tonight?” Hux looks up, raising his eyebrow. “What’s tonight?”

“A date. Well, hopefully.” Ren shrugs, closing Hux’s hand over the box. “If you’ll indulge me.”

Hux balks, eyes widening at his audacity. His first instinct is to say no, remembering his plans of solitude and relaxation for the weekend, but—

—It has been quite awhile since Hux has been on a proper date, and part of him feels curiosity at just what further sort of pampering Ren has in store for him. After a moment’s hesitation he composes himself with a nod.

“I don’t have a car. You’ll have to pick me up.” Despite himself, Hux feels his heartbeat pick up in his chest. The grin returns to Ren’s face, looking excited as a schoolboy with a crush.

“Deal. See you tonight, Armitage.” And with an affectionate pat to the hand he turns away and walks away, leaving Hux to ponder over what exactly he’s gotten himself into this evening.

Belated Notevember Day 3//Notice that none of these have names. It’s because I’m really bad at naming things.

Eustace Hilary Smythe was every bit as much a git as his name suggested. ONe of those weedy, wealthy people who seems to be physically incapable of doing something a normal person would—cooking a meal, washing the dishes, playing intergalactic Words with Friends. Just my luck that he hired me to figure out why the Tentari (of Tentaros, in the Andromeda galaxy) had declared war on the Milky Way galaxy.

Why would a single planet declare war on a whole galaxy, you might ask? Well, Zartran Deliskoi is the president of the Andromeda Galaxy, and he’s a Tentarin. So the planet knows they’ve got the Andromedan president supporting them.

Eustace Hilary Smythe stumbled into my office, his garish suit (an amethyst and goldenrod number, with a lime-green top hat and cravat; all the rage in the galactic hub, which I work out of; unfortunately, it just looked trashy on him) torn and smoking. “I want to request your service,” he gasped, as if he’d been chased to my office by the Venusian (from Venusia, not Venus) beetle-hordes.

“Services,” I said, stressing the last part. “I offer more than one, you know.” I held out a hand. Well, it’s not really a hand. More of a cross between an insect foot and a lion’s paw. I’m not humanoid. So what? It’s not the only form a sentient being can take in this universe. Anyway. “The name’s Teglasharinofylophquwarx,” I said. “Private eye.”

“Yes, I know,” said Smythe. “I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t. I need you to—”

“Now hold it right there, “ I said. “I don’t know you, and I need to know details before taking on a case. What’s your name?”

“Eustace Hilary Smythe,” said Eustace Hilary Smythe.

“Alright, and what are you around your friends?”

“It depends on the friend,” said my client. “Some people call me Eusty, some call me Hilary, and others call me Smythe. Smythie, sometimes. Why? I’ve got a very urgent—”

“Just seeing what I can call you, Eusty,” I interrupted with a wink. “Now what’s your problem?”

“You may call me Mr. Smythe when addressing me,” he said, trying to be cold but really just sounding wet.

“And your problem?”

“Oh! Oh, yes. My situation is dire indeed, Mr. Tegla—”

“Miss,” I corrected.

“Miss Teglashurphinopqurwix.” He paused. “Was that your name?”

“Not even close.”

“Oh. Anyway, my situation is dire. I learned this morning that I’ve got a galaxy after me! I was vacationing in Belbos, on the edge of the Andromeda galaxy, and suddenly a fleet of warships surrounded the planet! They said that they wanted me taken in for custody and they would kill me if they had to.”

“And how did you get away?” I asked, scribbling down notes.

“Uh... personal teleported,” Smythe said, turning an unseemly shade of beetroot red.

Personal teleporters are illegal in both galaxies, and so technically Smythe was breaking a fairly significant law in multiple galaxies. But since, as a private eye, I have to be morally challenged (if not morally gray), I let it pass. It’s not like I would have gotten a reward from the cops if I’d turned good ol’ Eusty in, anyway.

“My rates are 2000 intergalactic credits an hour, plus expenses,” I said matter-of-factly. “And I can change the price as I see fit, so if this is dangerous, I might raise it to 5000.”

“I don’t care, just get these people off of my tail,” Eustace cried, practically begging me.

“I’ll take the case,” I said. “Now tell me the particulars...”

As it turned out, Smythe was unable to tell me what planet was after him. One of those socialites who really is as dumb as they all look. So I went into the galactic news hub. I’ve got contacts from all the major papers, from the Galactic Gazette to the Transgalactic Times. If anyone knew about a planet’s declaration of war, it would be one of these people.

My contact in the Transgalactic Times, the well-respected reporter Maisie Marticholli of Betelgeuse VI was the first person I went to. She wasn’t the most intelligent person out there, nor was she always up-to-date on the latest news, but was she beautiful. Classic Betelgeusian beauty. Maisie and I have a... complicated relationship. Sometimes I have trouble remembering that I should keep my pleasure separate from my work.

True to form, as I walked into her office she looked beyond gorgeous. Her face lit up with a smile, and her large, pale eyes blinked rapidly, a sign of happiness (if you’re Betelgeusian). “Tegla,” she said. “What can I do for you?”

“Sorry, Maisie,” I said. “I’m here strictly on business today—don’t pout like that!”

The pout remained firmly in place, but she rolled her eyes. “Fine. What information do you need?”

“Any declarations of war recently?” I asked. “I’ve got a client...”

Maisie blinked. “I just got one a few minutes ago, actually. From the—” She paused.

“Well?” I prompted.

Maisie gave a long-suffering sigh. “I don’t want to tell you, Tegla, because you only use me for information. I’m a serious reporter, but I do have feelings.”

Well. This was an unhelpful problem. “Look,” I said, wondering what I could say that would make her change her mind. “I can always go to one of your rival reporters... I’m sure they’d be much more helpful...”

“Fine,” she sniffed. “But you’re breaking my heart. I hope you know that. It’s the Tentari people of Tentaros, in the Andromeda galaxy. Declaration of war on one human, named Eustace Hilary Smythe, socialite. Reasons unknown.”

“Thank you!” I exclaimed. “That’s exactly what I was looking for.” I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and was out. I really do think I love that woman, as annoying as she can be.

Now for a quick visit with the Milky Way president’s chief of staff. We were galactiweb friends for years, and I knew he’d be able to help me.

“Hey Darryl,” I said, when I got past all the security and was finally in his office. “What’s up with you, my boy?”

Darryl isn’t his actual name, but it’s a nickname dating back to when we were teens and we first made friends. He was surprised to see me. “Tegla, what are you doing here?”

“I’ve got a case that could use your professional expertise,” I told him. “My client has had war declared on him. Could your buddies here maybe grant him asylum?”

“Is your client Eustace Hilary Smythe?” Darryl asked, rolling the r. “‘Cause if it is, we’re already working on it. Apparently, Eustace’s father is a big campaign donor to the president. So you don’t need to worry on that front, The president’s prepared to declare war if anything happens.”

That was interesting. “Do you know why the Tentari have declared war on this Smythe guy?” I asked.

He shook his head. “Sorry. Here, I can get you a meeting with their ambassador. Maybe they can help.”

I took a break for lunch after that. I ate at a nice restaurant and charged it to Smythe, since I took the time to review my notes. My biggest question was why were they targeting Smythe? There had to be a reason. Planets don’t just risk intergalactic war because they want to. But no one knew why, not even Smythe. I double and triple-checked. This was the biggest mystery I’d seen in two weeks (business was slow, alright? Give me a break).

My meeting with the Tentari ambassador was that afternoon. I spent some time beforehand with Maisie, just to show her that I didn’t just use her for her information.

I was in a good mood before my meeting, and, as there wasn’t anything to dampen my spirits, I greeted the Tentari ambassador enthusiastically, talking like we were old friends.

“I made time for you because the chief of staff made arrangements,” the Tentarin told me. “You’ve been trying to figure out an explanation for the declaration of war.”

“Yes,” I replied brightly. “I’m trying to file a report. I”m helping conduct research for a book about the galactic wars, and this could potentially build up to one. Why are your people willing to risk that?”

The Tentarin, a grumpy cephalopodal creature, harrumphed. “Mr. Smythe bought a stolen Tentari artifact of great historic, cultural, and religious value. While we have apprehended the thief, we still need to take back the item. Mr. Smythe refused to return it, even after we explained what was going on.” He turned to me, raising his puffy head. “Could you try to return it? We would be very grateful.”

I hemmed and hah’d and told him that I would try, but I could make no promises. After I left, I called Smythe and told him to meet me at my office. I was not very happy.

When he showed up, it was in a different, although equally garish outfit (electric blue and vermilion, with an indigo top hat and bow tie). He looked nervous, like he was anticipating a result, but wasnt sure what kind. “Good to see you again, Telglshurwyknax,” he said, in an attempt to be jovial.

I ignored his abysmal attempt at saying my name. “Eustace Hilary Smythe,” I said crisply. “I’ve figured out what you need to do to get the Tentari to stop.”

He exploded out of his chair in excitement. “What is it? Tell me! Please, I’ll do anything!”

“Shut up!” I said. He sat down quickly, a shocked look on his face. “Recently, the Tentari had something very valuable stolen from their planet, and you were stupid enough to buy it. I think it’s hanging on that gold chain around your neck.”

“I bought it, so it’s mine,” Smythe replied, sounding for all the world like a petulant and defensive child.

“But the person who sold it to you had no right to sell it to you, because they stole it,” I told him. “And anyway, you don’t want the Tentari to try and declare war on you. And the easiest way to stop this is by giving that bauble back to them.”

“I wasn’t going to buy it, you know,” Smythe said, still defensive. But it’s really pretty. And I want to keep it. It’s mine.” And he crossed his arms and refused to say anything else.

“Well,” I sighed. “War over an impulse buy. That’s new.” I looked at Smythe. “I hope you like intergalactic warfare.”

Youhad heard about it before, the mansion, but never thought it was seriously trueand horrific until you saw the terror and relief in Alfred’s eyes as he ran towardsyou. It was not like him to joke on being afraid. His loud voice trembled as heshouted at you from the distance. “Arthur! Save Arthur!”

Youwere so confused. “What?” You asked him as you step away from your previousposition to avoid his weight you knew would land on you.

“Arthur…the monster… it has taken Arthur! Where is it?” Alfred murmured in between gasps.

“Whatmonster? What??”

“Itwent this way! Didn’t you see it?” Alfred almost shouted at you as if you werea stupid person who could not understand a simple thing.

Youwere just about to voice out your overwhelmed confusion when you and Alfredheard Arthur’s voice from a room in the hallway you were standing.  Immediately, you and Alfred ran towards thedirection of his voice.

Alfredkicked open the door and was greeted by a pool of blood on the floor. Youalmost gasped in horror, but rather gasped in relief when you saw Arthur wasstanding and just looked at the direction of the door. Not far from his feet isthe dead body of probably the monster Alfred had been referring to. Its bodywas covered in bleeding cuts, even though Arthur was not holding any knife orsword or any sharp weapon. In his clenched hand was his wand.

“Holyshit!” Alfred was careful to not step on the bloody mess.

Youcarefully walked towards Arthur as you instantly observed something differentfrom Arthur’s gaze. It was blank. He seemed unsure where to look.

Youthought it was just a silly idea to have an adventure at the rumored mansion. Youthought it would just be another normal ghost hunting to hang out with Arthurand scare his cousin Alfred. It was Alfred’s idea, though, and surprisingly,Arthur, your boyfriend, seemed excited. And you knew he would likely use it as sourceof inspiration for one of his novels. You never thought it would lead to this.

Justlast week, Arthur invited you on a date to watch the stars again with him inhis small observatory in his house after this ‘small’ adventure. You couldstill remember his red cheeks, and his excited eyes travelling around to avoiddirectly looking at you as he asked you if you had a free time. You said youdo, and you saw how his eyes twinkled as he looked at you when you said youwould always have a time for him. After all, he was your boyfriend. You hadbeen dating as lovers for a month. You were still discovering traits of eachother, exploring the outside world with each other.

Hisgreen eyes were as lovely as before, but they were still. They no longer lookedaround to shyly avoid your gaze. They were just still, looking at a starlessdarkness.

Youwere standing there across Arthur. You were looking at him. You looked atAlfred who was now standing beside him. And you could tell from his nervoussilence that he also realized what was going on. He stood there lookingprotective but had no much strength himself as he watched Arthur looked aroundand called out your names, for not you nor Alfred made any more move.

Youheld back your tears, but they just rushed down your face. Of course, you werethankful he was safe, but now Arthur was blind. You cried silently as you letyour tears stream down your face, for Arthur would not see them anyway.

Howcould he see the stars with you now? How could he avoid your gaze? How could hefinally stare at you lovingly with a shy blush on his face?

Youcould still see your reflection in his eyes. And you saw that you were crying. Andyou saw that behind you was another creature that looked like the dead one onthe floor. Without second thought, you snatched the wand from Arthur’s hand.You ignored his panic screech. You turned to face the monster, and withoutlooking at your two companions, you voiced out a command. “Al, don’t let him botherme!”

Alfredwas watching you with worried eyes, but he obeyed. He held Arthur and herealized how the Brit could not move much, for he did not punch him to protestof being stopped from rescuing you. Instead, he was just whimpering, as if itwas the only thing he could do with the energy left in him. Alfred thought hemust be the one facing the monster, for he was the hero after all, but he thoughtthat helping Arthur would also be heroic.

Itwas a good thing that you had knowledge about magic even before meeting Arthur.You just never tried it once. You were just amazed, but did not really take anyof it seriously for yourself to get involved with. But you were alwaysfascinated at his magic.  You read his magicbooks whenever he was busy trying some spells. He thought you just found theminteresting, and did not know you were already memorizing every chant againstevil. Though you never thought it was real that using too much of it could leadto the user’s demise. And now you just saw it in Arthur’s sudden blindness.

Youstudied the monster in front of you. It seemed it was also cautious of yourpossible action. Perhaps it had noticed the anger in your eyes. Or the formingred light from the wand in your hand. You saw the monster’s sudden focus on thewand, and you started to panic. You had never used a wand before. You knew onlychants and spells from Arthur’s books, but was not really sure how to use them,especially with wands. But there would always be first time for everything,right?

Themonster seemed smart and noticed your lack of confidence. It suddenly made amove to attack you. You swayed the wand in front of you, and let your emotionstook over it. You chanted a spell you remembered well and said it aloud withfearless power as you pointed the wand at the approaching monster.

Thecreature now in two halves and bathing in its own blood fell down on the floorfaster than the sound of the other end of the broken wand that hit a wall ofthe room.

“Let’sgo ou…” You could not finish your sentence as you coughed badly. With greatworry, Arthur had had strength to walk towards the sound of your pain. You couldsee his despair despite the blankness of his stare. You heard his faint voice, “Love.”

Itwas not a time for Alfred to feel his being a hero as he carried you and Arthurin his arms. Good thing he was very strong and ran out of the mansion withtears rushing down his face. His pace never slowed down until you finallyreached Arthur’s place.

Alfredtried to joke around to lighten up the atmosphere. He said he felt left outbeing the only one who could not do magic. But just a few seconds later, he wassilent. He was a loud person, always talking and laughing, yet now he wascrying silently. “I’ll take you both to the hospital.”

“No.This is nothing that can be cured by that.” Arthur seemed to gather enoughstrength. He stood up from the couch with his arms fumbling in the air as hecalled your name. You gently held his arms, and only then he realized you werealmost just beside him. As he sat back and touched your face, he felt yourtears. “Y/N, are you alright, love?”

“Yes.”You replied weakly.

“Ididn’t know you could do magic.” He tried to sound less hurt at the faint ofyour voice, knowing using it for the first time could have cost you a lot ofenergy.

“Me,too. I read your b…” You coughed again and you covered your mouth. You feltsomething wet, and you were afraid to look, but you did anyway. You slowly heldout your palm that you covered your mouth with. Blood. You quickly looked atAlfred who was so worried and about to speak to signal him to keep quiet. Afterall, Arthur could not see it. You saw Alfred’s hesitation, but he listenedanyway as he swallowed his concern.

“Love,are you alright?” Panic was evident in Arthur’s voice. Only his sense of sightwas gone. He felt your agony. He felt Alfred’s hysteria. And suddenly you sawhis held back tears caressing his face.

“Yes,Arthur, I’m fine.” You managed to tell a lie as you held back another bloodycough. “Are you alright?” You asked him back.

“Yes.I’ll get used to it.” He said trying to sound brave.

“Ican’t take this. No one’s asking me if I’m alright. I’m out.” Alfred dashed tothe basement where he knew Arthur kept his magic things.

Arthurheard the direction of Alfred’s steps and realized what Alfred was upto andquickly stood up to stop him, but fell down to his face when his leg hit theside of the table. You were still weak, but you guided Arthur as you followedAlfred.

“I’lllearn magic, too. Don’t underestimate me. I’ll make you see, Arthur. And Y/N,there’s no way I can keep your coughing up blood a secret forever.” Alfredloudly mumbled.

Youfelt betrayed, but you could do nothing about it. You felt Alfred’s despair, soyou kept quiet when Arthur’s worried expression turned to horrified. You triedto avoid his blank gaze by offering help to Alfred, which he declined.

“No.I felt useless in that mansion. Both of you saved me. I’ll save you, too. I’m ahero, too.” His cracked voice was full of motivation.

A weekhad passed and the three of you stayed in Arthur’s house. Alfred refrained youand Arthur from bothering him. He was always there for the both of you, thoughhe spent most of the time in Arthur’s basement.

Youand Arthur almost never left each other’s side. You guided him around his house,and he would hold you to a comfortable position whenever you were in fits ofcough. This way of knowing more of each other never occurred to both of you,but this incident brought you and your boyfriend closer. There were still timeshe would not be so honest with what he was saying, but so were you whenever heasked you if you were alright and you said you were fine. Though you both knoweach other’s real answers, so you did not really mind, and just continued tosupport each other and worried over Alfred.

A monthhad passed and Alfred seemed energetic again as he led both you and Arthur tothe basement. You did not know what to expect. Not that you wereunderestimating him, for you were a beginner yourself, but you had not read anyspecific healing spell in Arthur’s magic books, for most of them were forprotection and random crazy spells.

“Justmake sure this will work. If we were turned into a frog, I’d bloody kill you.”Arthur crossed his arms as he confronted an empty space not far from Alfred.

“Dude,you are so lost.” Alfred laughed.

Youwanted to laugh, but you were suddenly in another fits of uncontrollable cough.You told them you’re fine even before they could ask you.

Atthe sight of your pain, Alfred started a chant that was not familiar to you.And upon seeing Arthur’s confusion and worry through his knitted brows, youknew he was not familiar with it as well. Alfred ended his spell with “heroalfred”that he confidently pronounced as “herowalfred”. But whether you knew thatspell or not was not important as of the moment, perhaps later when you andArthur were finished thanking Alfred and asked him to teach you of the new spellsthat made Arthur see and made you well again.

i fucking hate this envy i hold against you. its really not your fault, you never did anything wrong. and i dont think you’ll ever do anything out of bad intentions because all you’ve ever wanted to do was share love and be loved. you’re getting what you want from the right person, and i wish i was that right person too. you’re surrounded by so many people who love you and i am too.

the difference is, people like you have no reason to adore me. people like you have no legitimate reason to want me. im thoroughly convinced i’ve fooled you for years and even gaslit you to stay my friend, and even my girlfriend. ive been nothing but selfish from the beginning, and i’ll be selfish until the end. im stuck inbetween wanting you to stay, and wanting you to split up with me because i just want you to have better in your life. i want that to make you happy, even if it makes me miserable, because i dont deserve you, or our other gf in our polyamory.

i feel like im just making excuses to mope around from day to day now. im told time and time again to mend these relationships, just to be happy for you and the others. that sticking together is worth it. we can grow up together. i can talk to everyone every single day, even just for a few minutes, right? or every other week? maybe every other month?

i can’t do that, though.

i’m not like you. i’m not like anyone you know at all. i’ve tried to be for so long, believe me. i’ve played so long into the neurotypical role, i’ve never had any real reason to be miserable unlike everyone else around me. everyone had actual problems, all ive ever wanted to do (and still do) is help in every way i can. i know youre the same way. at least, you and the others succeed with that.

you succeed in so many things, even if you dont think you do. you succeed in being a great friend, a great partner. a great artist, a great sister and daughter to your family, even if they dont respect you for it in the slightest. an excited learner, a willful experimenter, one of the most fun conversationalist with the brightest and creative ideas ive ever known. youre so indulgent in so much. how could anyone not want to be around you or be your friend?

when i look at you though, i cant see any of those things in me. i cant see a single reason why anyone would still even try to stick with me. everyone should know full well that i cant keep up a conversation for more than a day before shutting down completely because i get so fucking exhausted after breathing a single word, after dreading being a complete idiot. not seeing any way how i can improve, or put in the effort for anything like i used to. or to see a reason why anyone would be humored by my interests when i ramble about them. i never shut up back then, isnt it doing anyone a favor that im shutting up now? how is it still hurting everyone? i wish it wasnt. i wish it was never hurting you. i wish you didnt feel anything for me, or mail me anything, not because i dont want to spend time with you but because itd spare you of all the extra effort.

i really dont know if this can be maintained. you’re both trying so fucking hard to maintain it. maybe im not trying at all, maybe i am, but at the very least, i know i’ve been having so much trouble with trying to feel something for the group we’ve shared for years. and if i drop it, theres no potential left. no future left. and yet that doesnt scare me. yet i dont feel anything for that. i dont feel anything for a lot nowadays, but even just thinking about any of this right now makes me feel numb and depressed.

but lets face it, i dont think i’ll ever be as interesting of a person as you guys, no matter how much i try. in reality, im just empty space that you guys are trying to fill. and im sorry. i keep wondering if splitting up will just make anything better or worse, but im genuinely scared that i just cannot maintain relationships anymore. im scared of feeling only envy for you and not love like i used to, because im so fucking attached to one single person now who was influenced my life to change more than anyone else. you’re not unequal to her. youre not unequal to anyone, please god never take it that way after everything i just wrote.

its just how ive always felt. and i feel like being apart should be tearing apart that mindset but its just made me bitter and tired of everyone and makes me dread coming back even more. im just a fucking imposter and a faker, i always have been. ive never had anything interesting going on, all i do is just fucking wallow to myself and you dont deserve that, no one does. but what am i supposed to do? i have no fucking identity and i break apart whenever theres any sort of emotional turmoil now. i hide when people are upset now. not because ive been abused, because my mind just convinces me my shitty little brain is my only safe space in case something really awful happens. and if something really awful does happen im stuck in my own fucking head being selfish as i always am and youre hurt and its all my fault again and even though its my fault i just cant fucking CHANGE the fact its my fault because i dont take RESPONSIBILITY anymore AND YOU’D JUST BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT ME OKAY? anyways, if anything happens, i love you so much to death, and. i just... hope that your future will turn out as bright as it ever could be. i hope you get the career you want, and save up enough money to move out. i hope youre surrounded by so much more people who love you and convince you that youre worth all the time in the world and that your family writhes in their own dirt for treating you so terribly. i hope you realize your own strengths and your ability to shape the future. i hope youre as healthy as can be. i hope you’re still with her if i cant be there for either of you. i hope you eventually realize that maybe im not really good enough for you, and never was in the first place. im happy my ex at least got that benefit. i’ll be happy if you realize whats best for you, too.

Fuck it all to hell, you had told Finn, told him so many times that you’d felt like a parrot. It was only to be him and Clarke at this meeting with Anya. Just like Anya would only bring you and her second. Of course you’d been naïve to think either of them would keep their word. Clarke had definitely brought more than just Finn and Anya had brought a whole horde of warriors.

It had been inevitable at that point that someone was going to get an itchy finger and fire without meaning to. Unfortunately, that person had been on Clarke and Finn’s side. Bullets had rained down on your people and you had all retreated back with untrusting eyes falling on you. Why had you let Finn talk you into this? You were going to pay for how badly this had all turned out.

Tris had been hit with one of those bullets and from the sickly pale colour of Anya’s second you doubted she would be recovering anytime soon. No one within your own tribe had the medical skills to heal bullet wounds. Poison and arrow’s yes, but bullets? There was a reason why you had been sent to steal the vast majority of their ammunition.

“Y/N?”

You jerked at Anya’s voice coming from behind you, turning to look into your leaders face. She looked tired and more than a little bit concerned for Tris.

“I need you to do something for me”

“What is it?”

“Scouts brought in Clarke and Finn earlier on this morning, I need you to go to the sky people’s camp. Keep that boy in the walls”

“That boy?” you asked curiously then continuing “you haven’t hurt them Anya?”

“I haven’t and I won’t as long as the girl succeeds in healing Tris” folding her arms across her chest she levelled her gaze on you, tiredness banished “You are to keep Bellamy Blake within the walls of that camp Y/N. I don’t care how you do it, but he needs to stay away”

“You don’t care how I do it?” Anya had a tone to her voice that you didn’t like, it implied something about your relationship with Bellamy that you hadn’t even admitted to yourself yet. “You sound like you have some idea about what needs doing Anya”

You wanted to keep pressing, to try and get some sort of guarantee out of Anya that she wouldn’t hurt Finn or Clarke. However, you knew Anya to well to think that you were going to succeed in that respect instead you would take what she had given already. “When do you want me to go?”

“Now” Anya held out your coat, the dark green one that allowed you to blend so well into the back drop of the forest. “As long as you can Y/N”

“As long as I can” you slipped into the coat flicking the hood up over your hair and doing up the buttons.

You knew that when Anya said now she meant now you didn’t bother looking back to try and get any sort of glimpse at Finn or Clarke instead simply taking off for the borders of the forest. Stealing wasn’t your only skill nor was slipping ropes. You could also move almost inhumanely fast through the forest; it was a talent you hadn’t been able to teach to anyone else. The way you jumped over the undergrowth and missed hazards around you. All of it added up to the fact that reaching the sky peoples camp would have taken others hours but took you only one.

Movement was frantic around the camp and you could see hordes of kids running around seemingly unsure of what they should do. Who you couldn’t see was Bellamy though, the one person who you were supposed to be distracting.

Distracting, that was the interesting word. What exactly was distracting Bellamy going to take and just how far were you willing to go to uphold Anya’s orders.

You stayed in the trees for a moment scouting out time in the guard’s rotation to slip through the tunnel and into the camp. From the edge of the tunnel it was easy enough to skirt around the edges of the camp and tents to towards the one you knew was Bellamy’s. You were taking a guess that that was where he might be, planning what to do next. From the outside you couldn’t hear any voices so taking the risk that he was going to be on his own you slipped inside.

Your luck apparently was holding because sure enough Bellamy was sat on the edge of his bed, head in his hands staring down at the floor. “I’m not in the mood for another lecture Clarke”

He didn’t know that Clarke had gone yet, that was good. “Then it’s a good job I’m not Clarke”

He jerked, jumping up from his bed to spin around staring over at you. “Y/N”

“In the flesh” you pushed your hood down revealing your face to him, smiling softly at his visible surprise. “Sorry for skipping out on you again, but I did promise to be back”

“What are you doing here?”

Slowly you undid the buttons of your coat dropping it to the floor as you came over to a still tense Bellamy. “You tried to kill Anya, you nearly did kill Tris”

“Tris?”

“Anya’s second. She isn’t happy”

“Do you really think that bothers me?” he snapped out anger filtering over his features as he stared down at you.

“I think it should” you took the final step towards him so your bodies were only inches apart. “I think if it honestly doesn’t than your more stupid than I thought and that’s just…disappointing”

Bellamy reached up grabbing your arms and squeezed to such an extent that it was almost painful. “I’m only going to ask you once more Y/N, what are you doing here?”

“Can I not want to see you?” his nostrils flared at that, he wanted it to be true you could see it on his face. He wanted to believe that you wanted to see him. It was interesting, it seemed that Bellamy was fighting just as hard as you were to deny that there was anything but hostility between the two of you. That the chemical pull you felt towards him didn’t actually exist. You slowly raised your hand up to rest your hand against his chest, you could feel his heart beat accelerating under your touch. “I did want to see you again Blake”

“But?”

“But that’s not the whole reason”

You’d reached a crossroads, right now in this moment your life could go one of two directions. You could do as you had been raised to protect Anya and not tell him that is was likely that Clarke and Finn were both going to die at the hands of your people. Or you could tell him the truth, you could betray your people and you could take the final step towards living a life like Lincoln lived.

“I need to know something from you before I tell you”

“Need to know what?” Bellamy’s grip loosened on your arms but he didn’t completely let go of you, almost like he was scared that you were going to vanish once more.

“Would you have killed Lincoln? If I hadn’t gotten him out of this camp. Would you have killed my friend?”

He went silent, eyes flicking down from your face to instead stare down at the floor. “No” he whispered out. “Is that what you want to hear? That your enemies are weak. That I wouldn’t have been able to kill him when it came down to the end”

“I don’t think your weak” you moved your hand up from his chest, tracing his collar bone and up his neck to lift his chin so you could stare into his eyes once more. “I don’t think mercy is weakness Bellamy. On the contrary I think it takes more courage to show forgiveness” lifting yourself up onto your toes you pressed your lips against Bellamy’s.

Unlike the first time you had kissed him Bellamy didn’t stay motionless for long. His hands went to your hips pulling your body up to his own, then wrapped around your waist. One large hand splayed out on the base of your back and the other moved up to tunnel into your hair.

Your body lit up like it was one fire, Bellamy’s touch sending shivers over your skin and made your brain vacate the premises. You barely managed to wrench yourself back under control breaking away from his lips.

The Massive Difference Between 'Buy Local' And 'Local Buy' ... How Mayor Mullet Has Played The Townsville Business Community For Mugs.

Jenny Hill has traded on a trick of language to fool Townsville into thinking she is a champion for local workers and business, when the exact opposite is the case. It all revolves around the Local Government Association of Queenslands business arm called Local Buy and it is a deliberate play on words to line the coffers of the LGAQ. As The Pie reports, this one looks murky indeed. Also, the Townsville Bulletin goes beyond beyond parody, with one of their biggest side-splitting bungles yet and overall, it was a week you couldnt make up unless of course, youre the Bulletin. And is rebel councillor Paul The Angry Ant Jacob shaping up to take on The Mullet well, he may well have delusions of popularity and adequacy for a tilt in 2020 but there will be one powerful group that will try to block him. Also, the funniest comment on a news story this week comes from the most unlikely place and by popular demand, our regular pictorial gallery from Trumpistan. But first The shared thought-fart of the week belongs to One Notions P Hanson and the Katteronics R Katter. No sooner had Hanson quavered tremulously over the radio that people on the dole should be put to work catching cane toads at ten cents a pop, than Katter jumped on this creaky bandwagon and and upped the ante.

And on the face of what two well-placed identities have told The Pie, the whole set-up looks ripe for rorts of all sorts, even progressing to very serious corruption unless proper transparency is in place. First this landed in the Nests inbox from a respected and successful Townsville businessman. Just wanted to highlighta program that shows that Mayor Mullet cannot only stuff Townsville as Mayor, she is also doing it as a Director of LGAQ against local businesses who payrent/rates and employ people.Townsville City Council is among those Queensland Local Councils using LGAQ Local Buy to avoid going to tender locally, allowing them toappoint out of town contractors with the LGAQ taking a cut (understood to be 10% of any contract, which of course is just added on to what the cost would otherwise be). Townsville businesses who were previously and successfully supplying services to Council have lost out under this scheme with many being forced to the business and had to put off staff. Any complaints about the dire situation made to Richard The Screaming Midget Beckett (no longer with the council met with threats that they would be locked out of any Council tenders in the future all under the culture from the Impailer and Mayor Mullet . To be an approved Local buy supplier you have to apply and I think pay an amount to be approved and there is a period of 5 years in which other similar other local businesses cant even apply. Momentum for change must be building as this excerpt from a letter from Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe indicates, after he received a petition complaining about the situation.

Also, has anyone questioned the $400k yearly service agreement between T.C.C . and the LGAQ and does the Mullet disclose her Directors fees from LGAQ ? As a LGAQ director, Jenny Hill, pops into her purse $31,000 p.a ta very muchly. Under the circumstances, that could be seen as blood money, since she must know the hardship this state-wide legalised rort is costing Townsvilles well-being. The Nest has received a number of complaints about Local Buy, but until this week, The Pie didnt have a coherent idea of what was happening so to get an independent assessment, The Magpie asked a business professional well versed in both business and LG matters to give this over-view. Given the current climate of spite and uncertainty, the person asked to remain anonymous. Local Buy is flawed in many aspects, even if one were to concede that its creation was well intentioned.Lets give them the benefit of the doubt to start with procurement can be complex and costly. Good procurement practice (eg. due diligence, evaluation requiring technical expertise etc) could be provided as a shared service, so that smaller organisations can in effect benefit from the capabilities of a larger organisation able to hire the appropriately skilled personnel. Theres also the prospect of negotiating better aggregate rates on the basis of aggregated volume. Thats the theory. The reality is that it is nowhere near this. Im not sure about the 5-year protection racket claim, but I do know that getting on the list involves not much more than paying some fees and ticking some boxes. This means a local council is more or less free to then pick and choose from the list, subject to the requirements of the LG Act. Magpie note: This means that the TCC can choose from a list based solely on price, which often means true locals cannot compete. This raises a moral question of whether it is more desirable to pay perhaps a bit more locally and materially contribute to a more vibrant local economy than to simply save some money because outside organisations that make no real contributions to our city. And it is this part of the system that is clearly open to corrupt influences. The Pie knows of none, but its an open invitation to it. Local Buy of course takes a Commission, from memory 10%, from registered suppliers when they win work, so in the end the potential benefits of savings arent materialised. Suppliers actually add the commission in. Theres also real doubt as to whether the Local Buy organisation actually has any real procurement capability. As a result, the tendency is for increasingly standardised or vanilla offerings, because thats the nature of generalised procedures run by people with limited specialisation and knowledge of local requirements or specialist areas eg, technology. Local Buy is a misnomer, of course. It neither compels nor guarantees procurement by a local authority from suppliers located within this authoritys area. Having said that, what goes to constituting local is never actually an easy question to answer, which makes a mockery of the entire buy local trope. One other thing on the Local Buy (and council procurement in general): theres a category called standing offer arrangement. This is basically a set of approved rates for services / products that a council can basically go back to time after time, without going out to tender. In theory, not a bad thing for pencils, paper clips and such like but as is always the case in procurement easily abused or at the very least, mis-used. The Magpie thanks the author for that succinct summary. It would certainly appear that we are being dudded one way or the other, but two things raise the Magpies curiosity: what do we get for our $400k annual contribution to the LGAQ? And noted in hindsight, just as this Local Buy system was being introduced, Mayor Mullet started dropping in the odd buy local slogan the timing appears to havde been there to fool people when they started hearing about local buy. Low level chicanery at its worst, spread about at the very time it now appears the council Jenny Hill heads was doing exactly the opposite. For Jenny Hill to trumpet the buy local cry is the height of hypocrisy, anyway. One of the very first acts she did when first elected mayor was to buy her new mayoral car (a top of the line Holden at around $70-$80,000) IN BRISBANE AND STIFFED THE RATEPAYERS TO HAVE IT SHIPPED HERE. And why was this? Because she had had a previous fight with Tony Ireland of TI Holden about repairs her previous vehicle, which she had mildly pranged into a gutter _ Ireland point blank refused her request to illegally mark it down as an accident insurance claim, which it clearly wasnt. Even although the Ireland company agreed to match the Brisbane price, Jenny Hill went ahead with the Brisbane deal anyway. Shes a sweet piece of work sometimes.

So if youre ever thinking if its true that local business people are fearful of spiteful retribution if they disagree with this civic leader, just keep that in mind. And Heres An Interesting Thought Wonder if Local Buy had anything to do with the controversial choice of pipe for the new Burdekin line, and did Local Buytb have anything to do with the pipeline jobs that went to Adelaide in stead of the promised boon to Townsville? Just askin. ya know. Yes The Astonisher Has Gone Beyond Parody The satirists lot is not a happy one lately. I mean, how do you make fun of something like the Bulletin that is so unintentionally crazy-funny to start with? Is this a secret plot to spike The Magpies guns? Last Tuesday, this appeared on page 16 as the editorial page of the Townsville Bulletin.

This is a stupendous blunder in a Townsville publication, that through their typical technical ineptness, the hard copy paper had published THE CAIRNS POST EDITORIAL PAGE the community voice (supposedly) of any newspaper. The editorial was of bugger all interest here, as well as being pretty stupid, anyway. It even had the Cairns deputy iditor signing it under the Townsville Bulletin masthead.

There was a time when this bit of prize fuckwittery wouldve caused an uproar, given the sensitive feelings between the two cities, but it appears weve been bludgeoned into not caring about the Bulletin anyway. Honestly, if it were not for the circle-jerk leadership of this city, the mayor and the head of Townsville Enterprise would be so incensed by this particular A community without a responsible newspaper is like a beautiful woman with only one eye (apologies to Brillat-Savarin). But still the harmless laughs kept coming. There was this story

which included this quote from one of the ladies of the night about southern blow-in blow-job competition on the streets: Theres false advertising, they send out a photo of a really hot looking chick and when they get there its some frumpy number. The girls have had a gutful of it This has been brewing for ages. Yknow, Thd Magpie thinks the lady might have a point. But even when credibility-destroying cock-ups are right before their eyes, they still get into the paper. One should feel sorry for a decent old-time journo like Tony Raggatt, having his pic plastered between these clearly conflicting claims (the list clearly being nothing to with him).

But The Astonisher makes it easy to err take the piss.

The Ant broke ranks against Mayor Mullets Adani airstrip rort, conveniently just before he made an abortive run for state as a Labor-aligned but not endorsed candidate. Ever since, he has been regarded as a rebel ever since among the council sheeple and certainly by head shepherd Jennifer. So when he was front-paged in todays Astonisher

calling for an easing of water restrictions, many a pundit including The Pie, immediately assumed this was the signal for a Jacob joust for the top office in Walker Street. And that will be tricky. Unless Mayor Mullet abdicates and retires to malta, or runs on a Labor senate ticket her dearest wish but said not be shared by those who could make it so Clr Jacob will come under some intense pressure and even be flattered with promises of future glory by the Labor Party. Because despite her simpering shy denials of being a Labor mayor, Jenny Hill is, and is seen as, just that, and mainly by Labor itself. The party back room boys reckon mayor is as far as shes going, so they wouldnt rock what they see as a returnable vote boat in local government in March 2020. They know poor old Dolan Hayes will need Ashley and Martin soon with all the hair-tearing last thing the already beleaguered mayor needs is a Labor split ticket. But trust the Bulletin to come galumphing on to this particular scene with a few editorial bromides, but the best being this hilarious piece of total unselfawareness in an iditorial, which clearly is not Astonisher editorial policy.

Take your own advice, dearie. But Does The Pie Detect A Sly Dissension In The Senior Ranks At The Paper? Although The Pie doubts the feeling is mutual, he has great respect for the old-style work and values of John Ando Anderson he offers a very readable weekly service to the valuable rural readership of the paper, which clearly involves actual field work, and not just a few phone calls or, heaven forbid, lazy Facebook trolling. so apparently my school does this program where kids can head out into the woods for a weekend every once in a while and just… talk it out i guess. that was this past weekend, Ma (not my mom, a friend) told me to go. my old history teacher had been plugging for the trip for years, but id never actually gone. never thought id be able to explain wanting to go have a feelings jam with a buncha other kids in the woods to my dad. i didnt really until i came back and recapped a little (honoring the agreement i signed before going to not share anyones story from the trip).

on the one hand, i feel so fucking healthy!!! i feel like i have subsisted for the past year off of nothing but avocado smoothies and kale juice and like i have been doing yoga for 85 hours a day and like i finally met a person or two who i can actually speak my mind to and get more than just a “sure dude.” like, good lord does this feel good

i mean, thats what i told Ge and Di and i genuinely believe it. (both Di and i knew basically nobody other than eachother and we were alone in a sea of strangers for the first few hours.)

dont get me wrong, i feel lots better. i got a lot off of my chest. but there was also a lot left unsaid on my part. out of all the people there (about 90) there were two others who shared that they were genderqueer (and there were only like two other people who brought up the topic at all). one of them i had some p bad experiences with in middle school. the other was a student leader and facilitator of the trip, so Re (the leader) didnt really have a lot of time to talk, and in the discussions Re was mostly asking questions and… well, facilitating. plus, gender came up like once. and Re was not there.

but i was! it was nice to talk a little. i was in a meeting with the school principal about installing gender neutral bathrooms at the school a week or two ago and i talked about that with them, and i told them that being genderqueer goes waywaywayway back and lots of other stuff, i guess. but i didnt say anything about my experiences with being genderqueer, really.

and damn did i want to! idk if yall have picked up on this yet (all none of you) but talking to people about my shit is just so healing for me. thats why i have a public journal! like, talking to equals and feeling heard. i could tell my mom or the school therapist (and i do, often) about my shit and its cool, theyre supportive and shit, but since i started this class ive had no time to keep up old friendships that were based around hanging out. like, were still friends i guess, but… playing minigolf over text is just not the same, man.

there was this thing last night where from like, right after dinner until about 3 in the morning, we talked. people had seven minutes that they could use however they wanted in front of the whole group, and it was just their job to listen. and let me tell you, id been crafting my seven minutes for like, three hours before my name came up. the thing is, i planned like twenty minutes of monologue. i talked about a bunch of the family stuff ive got and that was real cathartic. i also got to talk about my struggles with depression, which was a real common topic. but… ive been thinking about the possibility of myself being a trans girl really, really hard over the past couple of months, and i still havent shared that other than with the people whove read this journal.

which is nobody, other than a couple people browsing tags when i talked about moana a little while ago. i havent told that many people i write this, but. i kinda trusted those who i did to read it i guess.

i dunno. i think im most afraid that im not going to have any healthy girl friendships. i see all these women and girls and they have such supportive relationships with eachother. i see it every day. holy shit, if you havent seen the rage and passion with which girls defend their true friends… Hoo Boy.

and im so worried i wont have that! like. i love being agender, and it’s wonderful to have the ability and the knowledge and the acceptance to be an out nonbinary person and not really have so many problems stemming from that in my life. but i have this fear that that ill be in this purgatory of a questioning period for just long enough that when i finally make up my goddamn mind and trust my conviction enough to come out as a trans girl ill have lost the opportunity to have these wonderful, girl-to-girl relationships. as an agender person i feel like so much of an intruder in these female spaces.

Like, Ha (who I met on the trip) was so wonderful and badass, especially considering the amount of shit shes had to go through. jimminy christmas, shes fucking strong. i try not to gender people here but when the topic is gender itself that kind of context feels crucial… but anyways. she came and sat with me when i was eating lunch alone in the corner and brought a couple other girls and. i mean, some of the body language of the others kind of told me they werent super interested in me being there but… it felt… so good. just to be in a female space, just to be included there for the most part, without cis guys around that i would get lumped with.

but then i think i had a panic attack like, near to immediately after that, because i felt like i was making them incredibly uncomfortable by being an intruder in their female space. and when my female friends were having a hard time during the trip (as often happened) i felt like it wasnt my place to comfort them and that as a natal male i would just make them more uncomfortable and they would doubt their friendship with me because so many guys just take advantage of women when they’re at their lowest emotional state and that’s the last thing i want to be seen as and i tried to hug a few women who were having a really hard time over the course of the trip but i just got this churning in my stomach because i might make it worse if i make them think i just want to hug them so i can feel them aginst my stupid fucking body and if i keep writing this sentence then im going to have another panic attack

i dont know what to do. i dont know who to talk to because despite the number of people who said i could come to them this weekend, nobody else talked about gender shit, and those genderqueer people who i do know have just told me to look into my heart and shit, which doesnt help because thats what ive been trying to do. i feel like i cant talk to women because to them ill just be another guy who’s venting because he feels like he can dump all his emotional shit on the closest woman (especially women i just met on the trip, i couldnt ask them to spend however long it takes out of their day to read this when i just met them). i feel like i cant talk to men because if theyre not transphobic to begin with, they either refuse to talk about emotional shit, or can neither relate to feeling like they wont have any healthy girl-to-girl friendships nor realte to being genderqueer. i know im going to send this little essay to somebody soon because i just need to hear at least one other persons thoughts but i dont know who its going to be

i've realized why i'm still upset with duen and all it took was an awful night's sleep!!

the bohn and mind situation reminds me so much of the khai and chingching situation!! in both cases, our "playboy" characters get kissed against their will and then get blamed and dumped for it. and in the end, they are the ones to apologize and continue to take that blame. this scene in my engineer rubbed me so wrong bc i am still chafing about it from theory of love!!

i'm not a khai apologist okay, i get it. as much as i adore him now, the first handful of tol episodes were hard af for me to get over bc i just!!! wanted!!! to beat him up!!!! and let third go find a good boyfriend (and friend) who would appreciate him. but khai won me over with how obviously he was trying his best to change. i know some people maybe think that it was too sudden but imo it wasnt because a whole lot had just happened to make him want to be a better person:

he'd just had his world turned upside down from finding that video confession; he felt like he was losing third, who has been his stable best friend literally since their first few days at college, and he didnt understand why bc honestly in his own selfish stupid way he did that awful shit to try to save their friendship; he nearly died after a fight with third where third told him to leave him alone and his last thoughts were of third and how badly he'd fucked up. like he got into a major accident and walked back to third just to see him again. when he woke up, third was there but there was still such distance between them. and he hated it. all of those things happened to make him realize exactly how much he loved and valued third, and how badly he had treated third thruout their relationship.

so khai tries. he tries to be a better person, a better person for third. you know what old khai would have done upon meeting chingching? you best believe he would have been all over that. but instead he was polite and kind but distant to her. all he did was give her a ride to the faculty and not out right reject her when she auditioned. that was it. that was it! (honestly khai began to treat girls politely but distantly upon falling for and pursuing third. even jam on the beach, he was never rude or mean. polite and distant is his new way of dealing with people who may upset his relationship with third. he also treated milk this way when she showed up and harassed him at his apartment which i also have feelings about).

khai says he put himself in the situation to be kissed. but here is the situation: he went out with his friends. that's it? that is the situation. he went out with the sound crew (kind of reluctantly even), and was again polite and distant with chingching. he was happy and feeling good because he was making progress with the person he finally feels secure and loved with, he's changing the way he lives and treats people. he's happy.

and then he gets assaulted by a girl he has done nothing to encourage. then he tries to leave and finds third kissing another guy. and then third blames him for being assaulted (bc being kissed against your will is assault, and i'll get back to that with bohn), and then when he finally catches up to third, third throws a glass bottle at him, yells at him and, in the end, tells him he thinks khai is unable to love.

and of course third is allowed to feel this way about all of these things, but he is so ready to believe the worst of khai. he is absolutely ready and willing (to the point of getting upset with two for trying to convince him otherwise) that khai is the same khai that has hurt him time and time again. he has been hurt too much and he just cant stick his already sliced neck out again like that. which is valid and understandable! khai has hurt him! (and khai assaulted him too, which i could also get into. but khai kissing third against his will doesnt mean that chingching kissing him is in any way acceptable as some sort of karma imo).

what got me though was just how miserable and vulnerable khai was when he talks about this with third finally. of course third wouldnt believe him. of course he put himself in that situation. of course its hit fault that a girl kissed him bc he has a reputation. nevermind that all he did was go out with friends (and alongside his current love interest) and drink? is khai supposed to be on guard at all times now, just in case someone who knows he is a playboy decides they wanna forcibly lock lips with him against his will?

all of this is to say that i just wish third had told khai it wasnt his fault that he was kissed against his will. is it his fault that there is a severe lack of trust between them? absolutely. but khai is not responsible for chingching's bad actions. he was assaulted and blamed for it and felt like he couldnt say that because no one would believe him due to his reputation which just....reeks of real life parallels that i dont think the writers meant to stumble upon but sure did.

now onto bohn and mind.

khai and bohn being playboys is portrayed so very differently, which i think is why i'm a little more upset with duen than i am with third in this situation.

where the first like five episodes of tol took time to set khai up as a serious playboy, its only mentioned with bohn. bohn meets duen within the first handful of minutes if my eningeer and the rest is history. the closest we get to onscreen playboy behavior is *gasp* bohn going to a birthday party for a girl he doesnt particularly like but is willing to go along with to the point of buying her a present, holding her cake, and dragging his friends to an awkward and bad party. she is never seen nor mentioned again after leaving (lmao dont worry tho she is set up as a slut so u dont have to feel bad for her! haha love that thanks bl writers).

the rest of the episodes sets it up to show that bohn shows affection through acts of service and physical affection. he is awful at communication and will do bad things to get attention (bc he was a lonely rich kid who only got attention by doing these things i'm sure) from duen bc to bohn it seems like duen wont give him the time of day most of the time. duen rejects his primary love language (physical affection) but occasionally accepts his secondary (acts of service) (bohn giving him space to study, hunting down that specific book for him, doing those dumbass tasks that duen's friends came up with).

cut to the planting trip. so far, the series has set it up as bohn being as open as he is able to be about his feelings when both his ways of expressing himself are commonly rejected and/or misunderstood by duen. he's tried to have a couple real conversations but has been dismissed or ignored (which i'm sure duen didn't mean to do on purpose but also i am on bohn's side bc nobody else is and i seriously need his friends to step up!!!). he feels insecure in the relationship and like duen does not even like him, let alone care enough to be jealous.

we have also set up the fact that if someone comes onto bohn, duen will be upset with him. when mind is first introduced, its him cornering bohn in a bathroom and aggressively pressuring him into going out with him. bohn rejects him (not nearly as politely and distantly as khai has interacted with girls post-getting with third) but is still blamed by duen when "caught". this is used as a set up for why duen doesnt trust bohn, duen using the rumors of bohn's playboy lifestyle to explain to himself why bohn is bad news (nevermind that the only proof he has is his friends telling him rumors and the one bday party where bohn is bored and obviously more interested in fucking around with duen than anything or anyone else).

and then bohn is sexually assaulted in the woods. which he is only alone in becaus he was cooling down from a fight with duen. he feels insecure and disrespected and unheard, and then he gets stalked by a man who he knows doesnt respect boundaries and spooked (and i'm sure is disappointed it's not duen that came to find him). mind disrespects duen, which is what makes bohn really mad imo, and then forces a kiss on him. bohn has to struggle to push him off, and then only manages to get mind to leave him alone by threatening to hit him. (notice that he did not actually hit him, which would have been a valid and understandable response? bc bohn isnt really as tough as he appears i think).

bohn's first thought is not "i have just been assaulted, i would like support in this processing time." its "if i tell my boyfriend i was kissed, even tho it was against my will, he will be angry at me. i dont want him to be angry at me."

again, he does not even think duen likes him. duen doesnt show it at all in ways bohn can understand (i think duen's love language is gift giving but if bohn told him to give him the gifts i dont think bohn really understands that). he is already insecure in his relationship and he doesnt want to tell duen someone else came up and forced a kiss on him bc he is scared duen will blame him for it and be angry.

unfortunately?? he is right. while i really appreciated king's advice on not lying, i really wish it had been more along the lines of "you should tell duen what happened so he can support you alongside us, your friends. and if he does not support you, thats fucked up of him and we will support you even more."

i cant blame bohn for not telling duen. a) he is scared he will be blamed. b) if someone cornered me in the woods and kissed me against my will i'd be fucked up about it too! i also might want to keep it a secret! c) he may be feeling embarrassed and ashamed. he is a grown man who was just kissed by someone else and he couldnt stop it from happening. we already known bohn feels insecure in his manhood (he is insecure in a lot :( ) and i'm sure this wasnt like. the most stellar feeling in the world! he needed some time to process!!

the point is, bohn goes to tell duen what happened. and he doesnt even get to? he gets told that duen saw it (and i guess we can pretend that it didnt look like a full on fight if that's what duen wants to think bc of his own insecurities) and then gets dumped. so from bohn's pov he was like. assaulted in the woods, violently shoved his attacker away, and then finds out his boyfriend saw it and........didnt come to help?? pretended he didnt see it and talked to bohn normally when he found him??? literally tested him and then got upset about his lying??? didnt check in with bohn at all to see if he was okay?

and then in the end when they make up, its again bohn going through a task (this time hunting duen down at night in the woods) to apologize to duen instead of the other way around? bohn was not lying to duen bc he did something wrong and wanted to hide it. he was lying to duen bc he a) needed time to process what happened b) was scared of exactly what happened happening and c) didnt even think duen would care about him enough to be jealous.

this got so long and i'm so sorry to anyone who decided to read this whole thing oh man. i guess my final thoughts are that the reason i'm still dissatisfied with where bohnduen ended up this season is because i feel like bohn and khai were blamed for something that was in no way actually their faults. neither of them invited people they werent interested in to kiss him. neither of them deserved to be blamed for it. yes, it was just a kiss and some may feel like i'm overreacted but to me it isnt just a kiss. its that both of them were essentially sexually assaulted and neither felt like they would be believed if they said that they werent at fault (khai actually believed he was and i'd bet bohn thinks he should have been more careful too).

it just makes me sad bc i know it was never be addressed, it was used as a way to break trust for both couples but? it only highlighted that third and duen werent willing to trust, not that bohn and khai were actually untrustworthy in this regard!

Im not sure about the 5-year protection racket claim, but I do know that getting on the list involves not much more than paying some fees and ticking some boxes. This means a local council is more or less free to then pick and choose from the list, subject to the requirements of the LG Act. Magpie note: This means that the TCC can choose from a list based solely on price, which often means true locals cannot compete. This raises a moral question of whether it is more desirable to pay perhaps a bit more locally and materially contribute to a more vibrant local economy than to simply save some money because outside organisations that make no real contributions to our city. And it is this part of the system that is clearly open to corrupt influences. The Pie knows of none, but its an open invitation to it. Local Buy of course takes a Commission, from memory 10%, from registered suppliers when they win work, so in the end the potential benefits of savings arent materialised. Suppliers actually add the commission in. Theres also real doubt as to whether the Local Buy organisation actually has any real procurement capability. As a result, the tendency is for increasingly standardised or vanilla offerings, because thats the nature of generalised procedures run by people with limited specialisation and knowledge of local requirements or specialist areas eg, technology. Local Buy is a misnomer, of course. It neither compels nor guarantees procurement by a local authority from suppliers located within this authoritys area. Having said that, what goes to constituting local is never actually an easy question to answer, which makes a mockery of the entire buy local trope. One other thing on the Local Buy (and council procurement in general): theres a category called standing offer arrangement. This is basically a set of approved rates for services / products that a council can basically go back to time after time, without going out to tender. In theory, not a bad thing for pencils, paper clips and such like but as is always the case in procurement easily abused or at the very least, mis-used. The Magpie thanks the author for that succinct summary. It would certainly appear that we are being dudded one way or the other, but two things raise the Magpies curiosity: what do we get for our $400k annual contribution to the LGAQ? And noted in hindsight, just as this Local Buy system was being introduced, Mayor Mullet started dropping in the odd buy local slogan the timing appears to havde been there to fool people when they started hearing about local buy. Low level chicanery at its worst, spread about at the very time it now appears the council Jenny Hill heads was doing exactly the opposite. For Jenny Hill to trumpet the buy local cry is the height of hypocrisy, anyway. One of the very first acts she did when first elected mayor was to buy her new mayoral car (a top of the line Holden at around $70-$80,000) IN BRISBANE AND STIFFED THE RATEPAYERS TO HAVE IT SHIPPED HERE. And why was this? Because she had had a previous fight with Tony Ireland of TI Holden about repairs her previous vehicle, which she had mildly pranged into a gutter _ Ireland point blank refused her request to illegally mark it down as an accident insurance claim, which it clearly wasnt. Even although the Ireland company agreed to match the Brisbane price, Jenny Hill went ahead with the Brisbane deal anyway. Shes a sweet piece of work sometimes.

So if youre ever thinking if its true that local business people are fearful of spiteful retribution if they disagree with this civic leader, just keep that in mind. And Heres An Interesting Thought Wonder if Local Buy had anything to do with the controversial choice of pipe for the new Burdekin line, and did Local Buytb have anything to do with the pipeline jobs that went to Adelaide in stead of the promised boon to Townsville? Just askin. ya know. Yes The Astonisher Has Gone Beyond Parody The satirists lot is not a happy one lately. I mean, how do you make fun of something like the Bulletin that is so unintentionally crazy-funny to start with? Is this a secret plot to spike The Magpies guns? Last Tuesday, this appeared on page 16 as the editorial page of the Townsville Bulletin.

This is a stupendous blunder in a Townsville publication, that through their typical technical ineptness, the hard copy paper had published THE CAIRNS POST EDITORIAL PAGE the community voice (supposedly) of any newspaper. The editorial was of bugger all interest here, as well as being pretty stupid, anyway. It even had the Cairns deputy iditor signing it under the Townsville Bulletin masthead.

There was a time when this bit of prize fuckwittery wouldve caused an uproar, given the sensitive feelings between the two cities, but it appears weve been bludgeoned into not caring about the Bulletin anyway. Honestly, if it were not for the circle-jerk leadership of this city, the mayor and the head of Townsville Enterprise would be so incensed by this particular A community without a responsible newspaper is like a beautiful woman with only one eye (apologies to Brillat-Savarin). But still the harmless laughs kept coming. There was this story

which included this quote from one of the ladies of the night about southern blow-in blow-job competition on the streets: Theres false advertising, they send out a photo of a really hot looking chick and when they get there its some frumpy number. The girls have had a gutful of it This has been brewing for ages. Yknow, Thd Magpie thinks the lady might have a point. What sort of deceptive, conniving, immoral low-life would stoop to such trickery. Bet it would never happen in the Townsville Bulletin, would it? Huh, what? oh, oops.

But even when credibility-destroying cock-ups are right before their eyes, they still get into the paper. One should feel sorry for a decent old-time journo like Tony Raggatt, having his pic plastered between these clearly conflicting claims (the list clearly being nothing to with him).

But The Astonisher makes it easy to err take the piss.

Paul Jacob Paul Jacob knows a cushy number when he sees one he is after all a Townsville City councillor. But it would seem our man is a tad more ambitious. The Ant broke ranks against Mayor Mullets Adani airstrip rort, conveniently just before he made an abortive run for state as a Labor-aligned but not endorsed candidate. Ever since, he has been regarded as a rebel ever since among the council sheeple and certainly by head shepherd Jennifer. So when he was front-paged in todays Astonisher

calling for an easing of water restrictions, many a pundit including The Pie, immediately assumed this was the signal for a Jacob joust for the top office in Walker Street. And that will be tricky. Unless Mayor Mullet abdicates and retires to malta, or runs on a Labor senate ticket her dearest wish but said not be shared by those who could make it so Clr Jacob will come under some intense pressure and even be flattered with promises of future glory by the Labor Party. Because despite her simpering shy denials of being a Labor mayor, Jenny Hill is, and is seen as, just that, and mainly by Labor itself. The party back room boys reckon mayor is as far as shes going, so they wouldnt rock what they see as a returnable vote boat in local government in March 2020. They know poor old Dolan Hayes will need Ashley and Martin soon with all the hair-tearing last thing the already beleaguered mayor needs is a Labor split ticket. But trust the Bulletin to come galumphing on to this particular scene with a few editorial bromides, but the best being this hilarious piece of total unselfawareness in an iditorial, which clearly is not Astonisher editorial policy.

Take your own advice, dearie. But Does The Pie Detect A Sly Dissension In The Senior Ranks At The Paper? Although The Pie doubts the feeling is mutual, he has great respect for the old-style work and values of John Ando Anderson he offers a very readable weekly service to the valuable rural readership of the paper, which clearly involves actual field work, and not just a few phone calls or, heaven forbid, lazy Facebook trolling. Now, Ando is nothing if not a steadfastly loyal News Ltd man; he has reason to be, the company spared no expense successfully defending him against spurious charge brought by the DPP over a jail interview almost 20 years ago. But The Pie couldnt help wonder if he wasnt trying to get a subtle message into the editors ear when writing today about Townsvilles landscape of words, waffle and impossible dreams.
