The other day I said that Greg Chun played one of my favorite characters in the Iki Island expansion, and I was sitting here thinking like why isn’t Tenzo my actual favorite? And then I remembered Hachibee ❤️

I have a question that you can perhaps answer. Where does this idea of Jin being a crybaby in the past comes from? Is it because of how it's told in the game he acted after the death of his mother? What his father says about him in Iki Island? Or is there something else I forgot about? I know there were early fics by manic intent with that kind of portrayal but what is this based on in the game?
(I'm not asking to offend you or anything I just always wondered about it and can't figure it out, maybe I'm just inattentive idk)
no worries about offending me! i’m very happy to receive asks :)
afaik, i believe most people’s idea of him being a crybaby does come from kazumasa’s comments about jin in the iki expansion, and also jin’s stories of his mother at the animal sanctuaries portray him to be a bit pouty and such
i’m not sure how much others root it in his reaction to chiyoko’s death (which i think was understandable, they were very close and he was only 7-8)
but as for other things that imply it, i don’t believe there’s much outside of what you mentioned! i guess it’s more so a popular impression that people take away from those things? rather than like firm firm canon
HOWEVER, with the manic intent fics i’m not sure what they based their idea of it on because they stopped writing rj before iki even came out. (i hadn’t played got before iki was released, so i’m not familiar with the fandom from back then) but yk i must be real, i feel like manic intent’s fics have a very heavy influence on everyone’s characterizations of jin and ryuzo
hope this helps!!

Ghost Of Tsushima Director’s Cut Rides To PC In May
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ghost of Tsushima is finally riding to PC. The game’s Director’s Cut is making its way to Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 16 and includes PC-specific enhancements.
In terms of content, the Director’s Cut includes the full game, the Iki Island story expansion, and the co-op multiplayer Legends mode. Pre-ordering the PC version also earns the following unlocks: New Game+ Horse, Traveler’s Attire, and Broken Armor dyes from Baku’s shop.

Developer Sucker Punch has partnered with Nixxes Software on this PC port. The game has been optimized for PC with unlocked frame rates, custom mouse/keyboard controls, and various graphical settings.
Per the PlayStation Blog post, “NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3 are available with both upscaling and frame generation options. Intel XeSS upscaling is also supported and if your hardware has headroom to spare, you can use NVIDIA DLAA or FSR 3 Native AA to further boost image quality.”
Ghost of Tsushima on PC also features ultra-wide monitor support, including 21:9 and 32:9 resolutions, as well as 48:9 resolutions for triple monitor setups.
Ghost of Tsushima first launched for PlayStation 4 in 2020. It stars Jin Sakai, a samurai fighting to protect Tsushima Island from invading Mongols in 1274. The open-world game gives players the choice to take enemies down honorably (face-to-face in combat) or to utilize stealthier, more dishonorable tactics to rescue the island. You can read our review of the original version of Ghost of Tsushima, in which we scored it a 9.5 out of 10, here, and our glowing impressions of the Director’s Cut here.

One of my big issues in ghost of tsushima is the retcons they did to fit with the iki island expansion. That always bothers me when writers do that in a game.
Im so sick of them retconing things that don't need it.
But i also kinda hate how they are a bit bias to certain characters. Or at least fans are.
There should be no bias in this game. Period.
That's the point of an open world game. With many choices. Otherwise its not really good is it?
I really wish they would actually make consequences feel like consequences in this game.
Being ghost like or samurai. Being honorable or not. And the good, bad and ugly with it. But nope all we get is special dialogue. Thats all i really feel we get.
Where is the actual danger outside of invaders in this game? Where is the threats of former friends? Shimura hunting down jin himself? It would be oof in the feels but plausible. Instead we dont really feel any real looming dangers of the casualties of war.
Iki island seems cool but i feel it doesn't really add anything special. Cept confusion, unnecessary angst, and making his dad and uncle look like dicks and painting him n his mom as helpless. And it irks tf outta me narratively.
Because i never saw jin that way. Ever. Like he was driven to the path of the ghost because of anger and pain and different ways on handling things in war. Thats it. No need for a sob story. No need for any explanations.
I feel adding his mom and dad too much in a story and showing them too much kinda ruins it. It didn't need to explain that part.
What it needed was a proper sequel and TO MOVE ON WITH THE STORY. dwelling too much on what was supposed to be just passing mentions just ruins a story for me.
I would rather see the aftermath of jin being wanted by the shogan(maybe even showing that the shogan aint such a good guy. I mean lets be honest,it kinda hints at that. And shimura even felt that shit too but he had no choice but to follow. Sorry i know a lot of shit about samurai history. I didnt study this shit for years for nothing. There is hella plot holes and historical inaccuracies out the wazoo on this game) Shimura feeling regret(because lets be honest he would. Like maybe a shimura redemption arch? Plz?). Like fr. Like you could take it so much better. But nope they have to go the typical route. As per usual.
Its so predictable.
But it pains me because i felt the expansion pack should have been something else. If they wanted to add more enemies they could do so without meddling with the already good story. Like there was nothing wrong with the main story at all. Like why fuck it up? Like why retcon things that didnt need it? Makes no sense.
The only thing I'd change is taka actually being more than a helpless waif or treated like one. And ryuzo not betraying jin outright but instead how his straw hats betray ryuzo and anger and frustration consumed jin so it looks like ryuzo betrays him but its not. Like you could do so much more with that. And make jin look less like an asshole. And give reason why his anger consumes him?
I just feel like it could be better. Now that i am actually analyzing it better.
Still an amazing game. But yeah. There is some holes i have seen now. Big holes. Like bruh.
Anyways enough venting. Like there is just so many better ideas they could have taken the game and could take it in the future.

Some not-so-colorful ones as well and some shots from the expansion, Iki Island, which was just as great as the main storyline.

Jin’s Father vs. Jin’s Uncle
Just wanted to share my thoughts on all the new revelations of Jin’s father from the DLC. Potential spoilers for Iki Island beneath the cut.
After watching the DLC and seeing this new side of Jin’s father in the flashbacks, I’ve come to realize that both Kazumasa Sakai and Lord Shimura  occupy different ends of the spectrum on what it means to be a samurai.
On one hand, there’s Lord Shimura, who is staunchly devoted to the whole Honour before Reason kind of belief. He’s so firmly rooted in upholding honour that he refuses to broaden his horizons or consider a more pragmatic way of fighting, because he believed that a samurai’s first duty is to the shogun, and that they shouldn’t use any underhanded tactics in fighting. Thus, his disapproval of Jin becoming the Ghost and adopting a pragmatic approach to fighting is what ultimately ruined their good relationship.
On the other end is Kazumasa, who had been described as a pragmatic fighter who didn’t hesitate to be ruthless or use underhanded tactics against his enemies. Yuriko had even said that perhaps he would be approving of Jin's methods as the Ghost, which meant that he didn’t really uphold the honour code as much as Shimura had. But as the DLC reveals, Kazumasa wasn’t just a pragmatic fighter; he was a ruthless warlord who went way too far in trying to bring order to Iki Island, and who disapproved of his son for acting like “a poet more than a samurai”. As such, this is probably why Jin didn’t seem to have many warm feelings whenever thinking about his father in the main game.
Basically, both Shimura and Kazumasa were trying to mold Jin into an extreme version of each end of the spectrum. Shimura wanted Jin to be a samurai who upheld honour and blindly obeyed the shogun instead of protecting his people. And Kazumasa wanted Jin to be a vicious, merciless samurai who wouldn’t hesitate to kill even the innocent if it meant bringing order and stability.
And honestly? This revelation really adds a new, heartbreaking perspective to Shimura’s vehement disapproval of Jin becoming the Ghost back in the main story. With this new information, it’s highly likely that Shimura was rightfully afraid of Jin becoming as ruthless as Kazumasa had been on Iki Island, and perhaps that was why he didn’t want Jin turning out to be like Kazumasa in the past. Of course, that doesn’t excuse Shimura for trying to mold Jin into a clone of himself either, but the DLC makes some of the events from the main story a lot harsher in hindsight.
In conclusion? Jin should really get some therapy, because he really needs it for all the repressed daddy issues that he probably has.
And someone should also get him a father figure who actually cares about him.

I've been intermittently completing my New Game+ file on Ghost of Tsushima, but I'm stalling because, while I love playing this game so much, I really don't want to face the pain that is the start of Act 3 again (iykyk). So, to distract myself, I started the Iki Island expansion and now I'm gonna be hurt even more when I get back to the main story, is this what people mean when they talk about hubris???
