One step closer to my altar goals. After many years spent searching for a reproduction of Le Génie du Mal that I was happy with, and some trouble with my initial package, this arrived today.

i allow myself to rest (sit down on comfortable furniture, lay down in bed, sit or lay down on a couch) and eat (enough and often and without restriction or guilt) i forgive myselves when I fail to rest and eat (whether on purpose or by accident) i am welcoming every chance to learn and relearn how to care for my body again! 💕

Everyone liked the color charts I test printed for Basilisk so much, I felt compelled made a nice version! Great for anyone that has an interest in Risograph printing, historical pigments, or weird medieval marginalia.

Since I know what a torturous mess the second hand market can be for occult books, I decided to pick up a copy of The Green Mysteries once I saw it was actually shipping out.
I can confirm it’s actually green, but a shade that is immediately washed out by the camera and doubly so if you put a filter on it. In person, it’s slightly darker than the above. The yellowish shade I’ve seen floating around is likely due to lighting or an after effect.
I have not yet read it, so I cannot tell you if it’s worth the cost. I made the choice to purchase it despite the book’s rather turbulent release because I know I care a good deal about occult herbalism in my practice, and because I’m especially fond of Schulke’s previous writing on the subject. I’m also jaded to overpriced books, given the Canadian exchange rate and that I’ve had to import or buy second hand the majority of my collection.
I’d you’re someone who doesn’t want to support Daniel Schulke after the incredible delay that was faced, or even Three Hands Press as a whole, I certainly empathize. Watching the situation from the outside has made me incredibly wary of any future preorders, much in the same way that being told horror stories about order fulfillment from other publishing companies means I’ll only ever buy certain texts from trusted resellers to ensure they arrive.
For myself, I’m glad I managed to get a copy before it became too expensive to justify. While a lot can be said about knowingly and willfully succumbing to FOMO, there were a good many years where I had to pass up limited releases due to financial instability, so having the security to treat myself to an overpriced paperback is very comforting.
For anyone in a similar boat, I ordered mine from Barnes & Noble on the Friday we were told Amazon copies had started shipping, and it arrived today. While I’d typically prefer to support smaller bookstores, there were none local that carried it, and the big name made me confident I’d either receive the book or a prompt refund should something go wrong.

gonna put the progress of this thing in its own post
so we start with references
then i figure out my layouts and start sketchin, putting the text down first after initial drafting
then i gotta fully flesh out all of the illustrative bits with pencil sketching. we got the holy gritty with his holy hockey staff and flyers pendant, little bits of orange dashed onto there, designing the flyers logo wherever i can
then we get black inking on there, bit more orange as well. normally i get kinda heartbroken when I smear a bit of ink here or there by mistake, even patch to fix mistakes sometimes.
But I'm gonna be real. The small blots match too well with the overall energy of the piece
the next image will be the fully completed piece!
