down the rabbit hole we go, im big on crime shows soooooo most of them are

psych (2006-2014, 8 seasons) ; i've watched it from start to finish 3 times and even know i go back and watch my favourite episodes (prime video)

summary ; the mc (shawn spencer) is very observant and gets called in bc the police think he's in on all these crimes bc he keeps calling in tips, but he lies and says that he's a psychic.. and keeps it up for YEARS, subplot slowburn romance is SO YUMMY familiar faces ; shawn spencer (james roday rodriguez) in a million little things, burton guster (dule hill) in holes, other familiar faces + there are also 3 psych movies & the the creators are planning out the 4th, they're just waiting for a producing company to pick it up with funds, (peacock)

bones (2005-2017, 12 seasons) ; i'm currently watching this & i'm obsessed but try not to get too attached to any characters, i like how a lot of the characters are in some way autistic (like me) and they don't ever have to point it out bc that's just how the characters are, be aware, the remains are kinda gross but i'm goos w it (prime video/freevee)

doublemeat palace as about bodies and autonomy and systems!!!!! buffy moving as a body within the minimum wage service economy with the things that allow her full personhood being stripped away systemically by her employer ("in it for life. like me. you wanna get something out of this, Buffy? you'll do the same." / " yeah. they all start to look the same to me too." / "do you think they'll mind if I take another break? "we're not allowed. downtime robs us all."). and then anya within the system of marriage and heterosexuality and there's something about that being questioned by halfrek that's like. okay what would it mean for you NOT to put your body through this system. the simple question of : "so, um … you're marrying that man with the large upper arms?" "yes" "why?" . and then Willow in the process of renegotiating what it is to live in her body in this world then having her bodily autonomy violated by Amy ("You don't get it. What you did to me was wrong. Do you have any idea how much harder that makes, just, everything?") but in a way that nonetheless doesn't recognize that that's just what she did to Tara.

meanwhile dawn is processing the reality of what it means to have to live in a world run by money ("but that means she's gonna have like crap jobs her entire life, right? Minimum wage stuff. I mean, I could still grow up to be anything. But for her … this is it.") . in a way that is also about buffy and dawn's different roles in life and buffy's bodily autonomy being violated at 15 and in another way being violated in time immemorial when sineya's autonomy was violated, and how "i could still grow up to be anything. but for her, this is it" is about buffy's slayerhood. but also it's dawn in a moment of contending with her own powerlessness -- as a minor who sustained an injury a few weeks prior because of one of her caregivers wasn't in control of their body either, and trying to figure out a way out of this system. is there a way for her to have power. and there isn't yet, not like this -- like, the next two episodes again in the dawn pov are about her having no power over what her caregivers decide to do or how that affects her life. and then the macrocosm of that extending to the spuffy conversation in the dmp which a) is so funny bc it's just like wow ok two upper middle class guys say what. please youre embarrassing yourselves. and b) is like.

this could just be any conversation about buffy's general attitude towards life as a whole in this season. in the last season. like, don't make this harder and the throughline of hardness throughout this season --

and like, this season being so much about the way buffy's life is not in her control and you can see it with all the time-fucky and identity-bending plots of the season, and this episode is engaging with that in such an interesting way bc the dmp does feel like this liminal time-stuck space where you lose your personhood but that's also not through magical means like in life serial or tabula rasa or dead things it's just baked in societally, economically, structurally. and maybe im getting away from myself but like, the way buffy's entire life has been this timefuck and this identity bending, personhood-denying experiment. what does it do to your perception of time to know you're going to die before you reach 25. that you just have less time than everyone else. buffy's managers pointing to their 5-year, 10-year badges, and buffy knowing that she's currently 7 years into slayerhood and her number's been up twice already. the identity-bending and autonomy-denying of all of that being forced upon her at age 15, simply being told that this is her life now, forever.

and like, all of that is so highlighted in this specific episode because i do think like, buffy is vampirecoded all series yeah but all season in particular, she is undead, she crawls from her grave, she came back wrong, "sun sets and she appears" "every single night the same arrangement," all of that. but in this episode in particular there's something about the almost cryptlike sunlessness of the employee area of the doublemeat palace. the insistence that they need to eat the food the dmp produces mirroring the like, closed cycle of vampires feeding on blood, it's just blood in and blood out. doublemeat in and doublemeat out. the way they're also slowly being fed on by wig lady, and by the system, and the way all vampires are also victims of vampires, and vampires also are about autonomy and denial of personhood. we're told it seven episodes into the series. "a vampire isn't a person at all" and the way especially the first vampires we meet in the series are so invested in hierarchy, in system, that that's seemingly a tremendous part of vampiric culture and just like!! also buffy affirming some piece of her identity by taking a break she's not supposed to take to go have sex with a vampire in the alley and engage in this very bodily and human act with someone whose body is not human and instead is meant to be abject, and it's this tiny and sad little moment of trying to assert her personhood in the middle of endless systems that deny it .

anyway something something capitalism and the alienation of the worker from the body something something how patriarchy and capitalism are threaded together through the explicit villains of the doublemeat palace but the implicit villains of the watchers council and straight marriage and the american family structure. something something willow saving buffy and herself at the end of this episode and her doing that in the process of telling buffy about what happened with amy and processing her feelings about it and something about these two friends who love each other and have known each other since they were sixteen and didnt know fully how badly the world was going to try to mangle them standing there still alive and still themselves after an entire episode of feeling like they are the last people in control of themselves. willow being the one to save buffy for once, and then affirming a boundary to amy and she doesnt get it yet but maybe she will some day and buffy returning to the doublemeat palace but on her own terms and i dont know that i have a conclusion because i think there isnt one, it's just the whole thing, the whole season about what does it mean to really try to live in the world . can we find a way to survive. i dont know. can we? let's keep trying anyway. ill throw this monster that's about to eat you into the meat grinder to prove it.

I recently found out there’s like, bonus episodes outside of the main seasons and have no idea what order I’m supposed to be watching everything in. there's also the chorus journals that take place before season 11 (these are technically a miniseries i think). bonus points if you include journal #4 which rt lamely left out of the compilation

10 Anti LO Asks

(Note: All of these asks are before episode 206 (Season 2 finale) so some may be dated.) 1. I can't even trustt this "cute" moment between zeus and artemis bc rachel is just way too anti zeus and too big of a fan of "twist" villains that I just have the feeling she's going to use this as a stepping stone to set up artemis the next villain because idk she doesnt like hades still and be like oh what BETRAYAL of persephone! now both of the twins should be punished now! or w/e.

2. It's not just that a time skip is lazy and out of place, if you're just going to flashback to explain what happened anyway, then don't do a time skip? Just show the progression as you already have done? Why skip ahead only to jump back? She's basically trying to do too many things at once and none of it is done well.

3. the wild part to me is has rachel ACTUALLY read the old texts? because they're way more progressive than her work. demeter's hymn praised her and persephone while calling out the abuse of men, women like aphrodite (who has a ton of sex with many partners) or artemis who didnt have sex were all held to high respect and never shamed for their choices, and stories like the odyssey/Iliad explicitly called out slavery, yet rachel is here in 2022 being ore conservative than men from 800 BC. like???

4. A time skip in LO isn’t a bad idea in and of itself. We’ve been complaining about RS’s slow pacing for years and she’s finally taking a different approach, which is good! The only problem is that her execution of the time skip ends up leaving out integral and interesting details about how the characters’ relationships with each other have changed in the decade since we’ve seen them. I was looking forwards to Minthe and Perse reconciliation arc but we don’t even know how they grew to that point

5. I love the her current look is a "turn off" line tho bc it's both persephone being aware hades is a gross old man who only dates under 25 years olds but doesnt seem to linger on this realization (P is legit so stupid) but also that rachel has zero self awareness that shes not a very good artist bc persephone still looks exactly the same despite being ten years older. like rachel will just say whatever lie she thinks up despite direct contradiction in comic and be like wow im such a good writer

6. Out of all things wrong with LO, I don't think I mind the switch from serious to silly in the mid-season premiere chapter? The part where Zeus gets threatened with ConSEqueNCEs for punishing Persephone is dumb as hell, but the transition to her speaking to the screen like she's talking to the audience before revealing something ridiculous is a tried and tested way of moving to a new scene, so I kinda like it. It's marred by her talk of pierced ears and green hands, but it's not bad.

7. How did you get into  Lore Olympus  in  the first place?

From OP: I found LO after seeing a lot of ads for it. I already knew of its existence but decided to try it because why not (I think I got into it around episode 70ish). I was obsessed with it, not solely because of the romance but because of the art. However, I started to question a lot of the stuff in the story and looked through youtube and tumblr to see if I was the only one feeling this way. Surprise surprise, I wasn’t and now I’m here lol.

8. I'm confused with the whole Artemis being called protector of women. You'd think she would do something to earn that title, but all she did was ask to be with Persephone in the mortal realm? It makes zero sense.

9. I know changing your physical appearance is sometimes an external sign that a change is going on internally but... did RS really have Persephone pierce her ears as the ONLY sign of her taking her life into her hands? I don't mind it as a heavy-handed metaphor but girl has done the bare minimum in ten years (a punishment she was happy with until they actually sentenced her with it) and you're telling me it's #girlboss because she pierced her ears???

10. What's so annoying about the timeskip too is it's not just lazy, it makes the last FOUR YEARS be for nothing. HxP relationship is exactly the same and their characterization is stagnant, big deals like Leto and Kronos are just swept to the side, Eros and Psyche was dropped I guess? Minthe and Daphne is resolved off scrteen, and the now the actual myth is supposed to start after FOUR YEARS of nothing happening? It's just a waste of everyone's time, but Rachel gets rich off of it at least 🤨

I got the apple tv 7 day trial and I'm speedrunning watching all their popular shows

As the title suggests, I've been binge watching a lot of shows :)

A friend of mine was streaming Silo on discord and we got a couple episodes in before he had to leave for the night. But I got stuck on where the plot was going so of course I signed up for the trial just to finish it.

I don't want to give any spoilers of course in case someone hasn't seen it, its all finished for the season though, 10 episodes. Each episode is an hour long too which is good for my attention span, sometimes when theyre too short it gets annoying with the intros.

Anyway I would recommend, I think what really drew me to it was the atmosphere? I love that kinda retro futuristic energy that it caries sometimes, definitely grungier though with all the concrete. Silly, one of the first things I noticed was the tiles that they use in the kitchens, the colored oval kinds.

Also the outfits? Most are mid but some stood out to me. I mostly appreciated the uniforms? (tbh kinda giving attack on titan but its ok). Also really liked one of the characters they introduced towards the end (nothing major plot wise dont worry I dont think its a spoiler) the ginger one. He had good vibes, wish there were more characters like him. Maybe we'll encounter more in the coming season.

I also finished the season they have out of severence. This is one that I've seen people complaining about with the writers strike and everything. People are worried its just going to get canceled entirely. Which would be a shame because I do think the premise is pretty special. Feels current too. As someone who regularly fails to thrive in a regular 9-5 job, I can relate to the wish to completely separate yourself from the work place, idk if I'd let someone put a chip in me though.

Same comment as before though. the sets are super simple. Just the main room where the macrodata refinememt happens, some hallways, other departments and a couple homes. But they make a lot happen just with dialogue and some simple items. I appreciate the silly little additions like using elements that otherwise would have no use for the outside versions to become majorly useful or important for their innies. I'm trying really hard not to give spoilers but also talk about what I want lol. I'm excited to see what they can do with the next season, I was surpised what they did with Helly. I would have assumed it puts the plot into a wall but idk im sure they've got plans.

I'm currently watching that tom holland show, the crowded room? I'm about halfway through and I'm happy I stuck around, it really wasn't drawing me in at first.

Anywayyy those are all the thoughts that I had, nothing too exciting but at least now its not all just jumbled around in my head. :)

Something that's bothering me with the characterization on the show; they've made much of Rhaenyra's arc chafing at the constraints of her gender and had her explicitly voice a fear of pregnancy and childbirth only for that fear to go away without the show really addressing it?

Apart from because it's in the book, why are Rhaenyra and Daemon having so many kids? Both him and Rhaenyra already have 5 kids between them, Daemon doesn't seem particulary interested in kids and also doesn't need a male heir and Rhaenyra already has hers. Yet Rhaenyra has spent the last 6 years being pregnant and recovering from pregnancy? I could see them having one kid just because it's proper but 2 more?

We also know that Rhaenyra is aware of moon tea it's not like they need to abstinente because Rhaenyra is fertile af apparently.

It's not a big deal, however why make that an issue in the first place if it's gonna get dropped in the back half of the season?

i think this is where the time skips to a disservice to this sort of thing... we don't know that it's being dropped as an issue, but we are left to infer a lot from small moments, so i see how you feel this. i think rhaenyra's fear of childbirth probably eased as she went through several labors successfully, we haven't seen her struggle with that (yet) and she clearly loves her children, so with each successful delivery, the ghost of her mother's urgency probably fades. BUT a huge part of childbirth for rhaenyra is that she DOES still consider it her battlefield. having children with harwin was a small way she could assert her independence and rebellion... heirs are her duty but those children are Hers even when it causes issues.

as for why she is still having so many children with daemon... firstly, they both had issues with children/childbirth with partners that weren't of their choosing. nyra didn't want to be sold off like a broodmare and daemon's obsession with valyrian blood means he wasn't about to start procreating with just anyone. but he had children with laena that (although we don't see it in the show so far lmao) he does care for, and episode eight gives us plenty of small moments that show they are both invested and (for westerosi standards) good parents. rhaenyra is currently in a relationship that she waited ten years for, with the person that told her sex was a pleasure (yes, that was a grooming tactic but that exists in their dynamic), making a family of Pure Targaryen blood. it suits them both to continue to have children because a) they clearly enjoy having sex (rip) b) their children are all Furthering The Pure Targaryen Line which is the whole point and c) the more kids they have, the more they bolster their claim, ensure their legacy, and provide opportunities for alliances, intermarriages, etc etc, all strategic necessities in an uncertain feudal state.

basically we don't see any moments of their marriage and they really do NOT give nyra quiet moments of interiority that don't affect the plot so we can't say that her fear is gone (and this will 100000% come up again, maybe even in episode 10 depending on the pacing), and childbirth will continue to manifestly affect her life in a huge way. we can't judge that based on two episodes that haven't spent time with her. she also is in completely different circumstances, settled and married to the person she was seeking her whole life, now focused on shoring up power, safety, influence, and legacy. having children is the surest way for rhaenyra to accomplish basically all of her goals, and i do think both she and daemon love all their children, although im ASKING to SEE IT. we'll definitely get more fear but i don't think it's a fault in characterization that her circumstances and accompanying attitude have shifted. that's what happens when you have three partners and sixteen years pass.

working on wrapping my head around the timeline rn here are my notes from the miraculous wiki

it looks like s1 is the most nonchronological out of all the seasons- dark cupid is said to take place on valentines day, later in the season theres a couple (retconned) references to may, and santa claws takes place on xmas eve. i'm choosing to ignore it because idk how to make it make sense, and pretending everything takes place early in the school year, september-october ish

adrien turns 14 in the bubbler in s1, and marinette turns 14 in befana which is in s2. theres rlly nothing in s2 to tell when it takes place.

in chat noir in s3 rose + ladybug say it's st. athansius day which is on may 2nd, another thing i am ignoring because it doesnt make sense.

christmaster is the middle of s3 and thats when christmas is (and when theyre 1/3ish of the way thru the school year) HOWEVER. im on the timeline section of the wiki rn and apparently three kings day is on january 6th. which means EITHER 35 episodes and a movie took place between december 25th and january 6th (funniest option), OR the three kings day episode should really chronologically be in like . season 3. or very early season 4 (option i'll believe for my sanity), OR that the writers just really didnt think that hard about it (option that is probably the actual reason)

thomas astruc says that 7-8 months have passed by the beginning of s4, placing us in april-may, which makes sense.

multiplication says that hawkmoth disappeared for a couple weeks, so everything btwn christmaster & pre-multiplication took place from december 25-probably sometime in may, which i know bc in the kwamis choice (transmission/deflagration) its been 286 days/9mo 12d since adrien came to school. french 2015-16 school year started sept 1 meaning it is currently june 13, 2016.

the 2015-16 french school year ended on july 5 and adoration took place 2 weeks before the end of the school year which would be june 21. im guessing s6 is going to take place in the 2016-17 school year so that means the next 10 episodes will take place in the last 2 weeks of school

OKAY SO. im so curious whats the fandom with the object people and the one named tesla and the lightbulb who i think is tesla's friend. Please ive been seeing it everywhere and cant find a name for it,,, i wanna know a bit more about it to see if i wanna check it out

Hi!!! Okay so. Well. The overarching name for aaall this nonsense is the Object Show Community, or OSC. At least, that's what I've gathered. Tesla specifically is @ecto-hazard's OC for an object /camp/ called RIP- Rune's Immature Party. If you haven't caught on already, acronyms are Kind Of A Thing. If you want to look into Tesla stuff specifically, here's a link to Grey's post with the master doc! They're comics and you should totally read them I'm not biased at all. There's also a brief explanation for camps in the doc I think. That should probably be its own post if you want me to talk about it, though.

So the actual meat of all this object stuff is, as the name suggests, the object shows, most of which are on youtube. The main two(? I think?) are Inanimate Insanity and Battle For Dream Island, but there are like, over 500 or something of them all over the place. It's a Huge Thing. Those two start off preeetty goofy but the most recent seasons are really cool stuff in my opinion.

Oh and, to give you a little bit of context, the basic like. 'structure' of an object show is like you know those reality TV competition shows where there's a set cast that gets whittled down through some sort of voting system. like survivor. its like that but with object characters.

In case you want to watch some, here's a list of the shows I've watched so far that I liked:

Battle For Dream Island [BFDI] by jacknjellify - The Original. the one that sparked all this nonsense. at least. to my knowledge. there are uh. 5 seasons now i think? it's a lot. it's so much. it's hours and hours of content. the first one was made when the two creators were like 10 or something so keep that in mind but it just gets better from there Inanimate Insanity [II] by AnimationEpic - tbh probably the most popular one right now??? at least from what i've seen. it's season 1 is even worse than BFDI's season 1 but it's current seasons... holy FUCK. HOLY /SHIT/. OH MY GODDD. also canon nonbinary character (tho a lot of the rest of its representation attempts are. not so great) Animated Inanimate Battle [AIB] by GatlingGroink57 - goofy funny but with a really good grasp on characters. Has like. 60 characters but each one managed to be memorable??? one of my favorites i love oodle SO MUCH ONE, or as it's often called, 'HfjONE' by Cheesy Hfj - very much NOT goofy funny. first show I watched. A very interesting (and upsetting) take on the expected format of an object show. its kind of hilarious this was my first one in retrospect it is not your usual object show Paper Puppets Take 2 [PPT2] by YellowAngiru - sooo fun and cool and creative... each episode has it's own unique intro + theme and there are some spooky plot things and drama and it's fun Sacriverse by Sacri - if you wanna watch this one you should use this playlist, this one is like. goofy funny but also analog horror and it's spread out along a bunch of videos and??? watching this playlist was an. experience. also it has HAPPY STAAAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a bunch more in a list I haven't watched yet and also a bunch more I likely haven't even heard of so this list is nowhere near end all be all. There's so much. There is. sooo much. god.

Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

hmm okay well the thing im currently actively working on (though actively is a really strong word because my job has been Insane lately) is a novel (non-fic) n she is a tiny little baby mollusk just screeching into the world so i dont wanna talk abt her (also working on a non-fic short story i dont wanna talk abt for the same reason n also privacy). but in terms of fic that i currently have open in tabs!!!!

ats season 4 for my faith series - the progress of this is pretty minimal bc im holding off on starting work on it until i make more headway on my novel outline, bc writing these faith fics inevitably takes over my life . but! mostly right now my notes are full of like, rambly ideas about how to Fix the Jasmine of It All because i want Jasmine to be a character but, by keeping connor a baby, and my determination to keep cordy herself, i need to change How she comes about . but ok the thing i love most about getting to rewrite this part is that to me ats s4 is where it All Goes Wrong. like, it's the character assassination of cordelia chase, and the show really hitting a misogyny peak which is impressive when u consider how misogynistic it already was . to me the ats s3 finale has so much promise which s4 inevitably makes mean essentially Nothing -- mostly in terms of the show's treatment of cordy. so im basically really hyped to write an s4 that is very much About cordy - about cangel! about angel working through (read: getting bullied by the entire fang gang about until he does something about) some of his misogyny, to become the kind of person who could be in an actual long-term relationship w cordy. this s4 rewrite said Angel's Madonna Whore Complex is On The Chopping Block . also im just really hyped to write jasmine. like, writing mind-altered states to me is very fun-- i love writing dream sequences and ritual sequences and intense emotions . so writing faith under jasmine's thrall ??? im hyped. also maybe half the reason this series exists is to occasion a faith/gwen fling sooooooooo.

i also have open a russian doll fluff fic - basically nadia and alan do a marathon watch of all the timefucky episodes of btvs . i simply love to Make Characters Watch TV . i LOVE writing their dialogue i love them so much. i love getting to rant about btvs filtered via the voice of nadia . the progress of this is decent !! i have like a quarter written and the rest roughly outlined

also have a VERY sparsely outlined succession fic about shiv being a lesbian . essentially a 5+1 (5 times shiv lost to her comphet and 1 time she didn't teeheeeee) . what im excited about here is simply that shiv roy is a lesbian and the world has to know. and also ive never written a 5+1 but i think the concept is just so fun.

ALSO i have another lottie lee yellowjackets fic in drafts . this is very new, mostly just popping the vague vibe of it and a few dialogue ideas into a document . but basically it's based on the new florence song 'casssandra' and it's going to be like, half taking place before laura lee's death and half after. what im hyped about this one is that lottie's precognizance makes me INSANE it makes me INSANE INSANE INSANE and i really wanna dig into just a very heavy heady fucked up littel tone here . also i just . i love lottie lee but i cant even think abt them and im excited to Think About Them In A Structured (lmao) Place bc hopefully that will make the process more tenable!!!!!!

10. How would you describe your writing process?

i've often described it as "building the ship as i sail it" . i love to outline, it's the way that i can write the quickest and with the most energy -- i like basically having little story headings for plot beats, and writing each segment, bc then i can have in my head exactly what im building towards, and can keep a sense of pacing in my head bc i know what else the story is going to contain . but also this allows me to write things out of order , while still having a general sense of the shape of the overall story, bc otherwise things can get really topsy turvy in my head.

but also im a big outliner-as-i-write. like often i will start out with a few story headings that are very sparse, and as i get the idea for one, ill get a sense of how to flesh out another, and im gradually filling in the whole picture, which each part interconnecting to and allowing me to fill in other parts.

like, i guess i write in the same way i solve crossword puzzles.

23. What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?

ooh okay -- gonna keep it to fic bc again my original writing is my Sensitive Little Boy (and also i aim 2 have more of that published n and dont want to connect my tiny internet corner to my public writing, in the interest of current n future privacy). but!!!! the two fics ive had in my head the longest i think are both from my spike fluff series:

a spuffy happily ever after wedding fic . exactly what it sounds like on the tin . spuffy getting married - their engagement and wedding and them establishing their life together . also an Everyone-Lives fic, literally partly bc i just want it to be the fluffiest lightest thing possible, and partly bc (as ive demonstrated lol) i simply love writing a Big Chaotic Wedding Where Everyone Is In the Room and Interacting . so like, jenny is alive and wesley and and cordelia and anya and tara and fred and everybody and probably even also joyce-- not kendra just bc i cant undo her death without changing too much of the timeline? but i am Trying to find a way to work her in like, idk maybe ghost kendra is at the wedding idk guys. anyway i love this fic so much i have so much of it drafted and just havent had time 2 devote to it yet . but married spuffy is so real to me theyre SO real to ME!!!!!

a spike and harmony do laundry together fic okay hear me out. early s5 . spike finds out harmony has never done laundry . her parents always did it for her and then her minions and after that she legit panicked bc it felt too late to learn and either paid for a cleaners' to do her laundry or just kept stealing new clothes when her old ones were dirty. but then the cleaners refuses to do her laundry anymore bc she killed too many of them . spike finds this out . he's like. you cant do LAUNDRY? harmony is like what like you CAN? he's like yeah i learned last year at xander's (he's very proud). spike and harmony descend on the 24 hour laundromat . it becomes clear that spike is Very Bad At Laundry Still but Moderately Better Than Harmony . they may or may not break several washing machines from bashing them in a fit of rage. gradually harmony becomes the queen of the late night laundromat demon social scene . this fic means so much to me i could cry. also ive never written spike/harmony before and simply put i think they are so FUN . they are SO FUN.
