I’ve been thinking a lot lately
About how awesome manual control of the brain would be, I don’t even think that’s the right word but like, everything is controlled by the brain right? so take this as an example of what I mean:
*bangs funnybone against table*
Subconscious part of Brain: FUCK DAMN OW PAIN BODY SEND PAIN SIGNALS TO BODY PARTS TO LET OTHER PART OF ME KNOW THAT WE HURT
Conscious Thought Part of Brain: “Damn, that hurt, alright, eyes, go! *looks around room, empty except for furniture* Alright, other part of brain we have assessed the situation, it looks like we are no longer in danger, turn off the pain”
WHAT WOULD IDEALLY HAPPEN
SPOB: On it boss, Shutting pain off in 3, 2, 1, go.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
SPOB: pain! PAIN! Pain. Pain. Pain. *3 minutes pass* Dull throb dull throb AAAAAANNNNDDDD we’re done.
I know that was a weird example but imagine if just by learning what exactly is happening on a cellular level Humans could be like
CTPOB: “Oh, my Cells are attacking each other because they think there’s some bullshit going on, that’s not the case, Sub, send messages to the cells not to do that!”
Sub: On it!
That sort of perfect symmetry between subconscious thought and conscious thought, I guess that would just be like a really cool superpower.
I’m sure I’m skipping over 3 Metric Shit tons of important medical stuff they teach you at med school or in advanced biology/anatomy classes I never took, and I’m sure there’s actually a good evolutionary reason our conscious minds can’t change our subconscious at the blink of an eye,
but like, I dunno, kinda seems bullshit that the Human body can’t just like consciously change their subconscious as easily as one could change their background image on their phone :/
I’m not saying we’d need it for everything, I don’t wanna be a society of robots where we choose who we fall in love with or some other sci-fi dystopia, but like, especially emergency situations, where like, if You’re in the ambulance, headed for the hospital and you’re still shivering from your hypothermia or whatever you should be able to say to your mind “Hey, SPOB? we’ve got a blanket, we’re in a nice warm car moving as fast as we can to treat our other injuries, maybe warm us up just a little bit?”
Or some shit I dunno
