Answering all three Asks I have about The True Immortal Compliant in "The Monkey King and the Infant" au:

Answering asks from @justweirddino and @kyliecatqueen + an anonymous;

Pretty much yeah; the whole Monkie Gang only start out barely tolerating True Immortal Compliant/TIC/Ruyi. Wukong (+ most characters who know about the incident) thinks he's a scumbag for extorting the Kingdom of Women all those years ago. But DBK really wants to see his little brother again (the bull has been locked up for hundreds of years) and begs for them to be at least polite when he visits.

TIC is like that creepy mega-right-wing uncle that you have to put up with at thanksgiving and/or christmas. Has really harsh, outdated opinions on womens health. Makes dirty jokes at others expense. But since he's a guest, you don't want to be rude and call him out. In general a dinner with him is more painful than the furnace in SWK's opinion.

After its over Shadowpeach are like; "Lets never speak to him again." "Agreed".

Then a couple of years pass and Spicynoodles are expecting their first baby(s). Uncle TIC makes himself known. At first DBK and Red Son believe he's emerged to establish contact with his future grand-niblings. PIF is suspicious; she knows her brother-in-law still has access to that Spring Water, and that TIC has been enjoying his new life of luxury in the Underworld...

Red Son is like the little kid who used to think his uncle was cool, then as he got older realized that a lot of stuff was red-flags. He makes sure not to give MK/Xiaotian any drink provided by TIC.

It comes to a head when TIC invites the whole Spicynoodle fam + grandparents to his palace in the Underworld in the lead up to the Spicynoodle wedding. The volcanic, super-hot Demon Bull Palace in the Underworld.

At dinner there's nothing but wine/baijiu to drink. Luckily most of the fam packed their own supply of water/iced tea for the journey and give that to MK to drink so he isn't dying of thirst. The micro-aggression does not go unnoticed however.

Later on in the night, MK gets out of bed to stretch his legs (babies making a ruckus), only to be summoned by TIC sitting in the drawing room. A platter holding a pitcher of water, two full glasses, and wedges of lemon just sitting there on the table.

TIC: "Why don't you sit with me and drink? I'm so sorry I'd forgotten your... limitation during dinner." MK: "Um... it's no problem really. I'll sit for a bit. Kids were just keeping me awake is all."

A few moment of awkward convo pass. @justweirddino describes the perfect proceeding scenario. MK is just swirling his glass of water, glaring into it as TIC sits with his own empty glass.

TIC: "You're not drinking." MK: "You poured the glasses before I came in. I didn't see you pour yours." TIC: *Pupils dilate a little but tries not to show any emotion* MK: *pours half the contents of his into TIC's own glass* "It wouldn't be fair to drink mine with yours empty. Drink up!" TIC: *hand shaking as he takes his glass. hesistates taking a sip.* MK, still as brightly as before: "The Demon Bull Family has such a rich history! I really can't help looking into it, seeing how I'm gonna be part of the family really soon!" TIC: *Sweats* MK: "And of course I love hearing how our families interacted during my dad's pilgrimage. Including a really funny chapter involving the Kingdom of Women." TIC: *oh shit reaction* MK, smile turning devious: "You really thought I was that stupid did you?" *lets out the loudest Help!/Danger! chirp he can* Outside the drawing room: *frantic boss music starts playing and getting closer*

TIC barely makes it out of the room alive.

Fun fact about the Spring Water. Half a bowl/goblet is sufficient to cure a pregnancy. But more than that? According to the old woman in Journey to the West that helped Zhu Bajie and Tripitaka; "Any more will dissolve your insides."

Wukong helpfully provides the above knowledge and proceeds to nearly strangle TIC to death.

It wasn't just a simple "remove future heirs"-plan.

It was also a "remove nephew's spouse"-plan.

Once the group learns that last bit, Red Son has to be held back by multiple family members/bull clones to stop him from delivering his Uncle straight to The 10 Kings themselves.

As you can imagine, this was the final straw for DBK. He can deal with a jerk of a little brother - but for his own flesh and blood to try and murder his future son-in-law and unborn grandbabies? Zero contact immediately. Thank you for dinner, never speak to us again or we will destroy you.

Bonus horror/crime idea of TIC;

Princess Iron Fan is comforting MK as TIC is being dragged away to answer for his crimes. She smells the glass and winces.

PIF: "Urgh. No wonder you noticed it. It smells so bitter. Almost like..." PIF: *Drops the glass, shattering it on the ground. Hands clutching her mouth as she remembers the times in the far past when she and DBK had tried for children. A servant always bringing her a familiarly-foul smelling tea when the queen became "nauseous/unwell".* MK, immediately worried: "Yuemu! [mother-in-law] Are you ok?" PIF: "...I'm going to kill him." *wind teleports out of there* MK: *is left confused, but understands her anger*

So yeah, when TIC shows up he doesn't escape post-S4 alive.

Summary:

Sun Wukong (Aaron Kwok), Tang Sanzang (Feng Shaofeng), Zhu Bajie (Xiaoshenyang) and Sha Wujing (Him Law) – inadvertently enter the Womanland of Western Liang because they angered the river god, they accidentally entered the female realm of Xiliang, a nation populated by women raised to believe that men are fatally deceptive in matters of the heart. After breaking into it, everyone discovered that there were only women in this country, and there had been no men here since the founding of the country. Moreover, the country has an ancestral motto that regards men as natural enemies. Love nevertheless blossoms between Tang Sanzang and the Womanland's young queen (Zhao Liying), even though her royal preceptor (Gigi Leung) is hell-bent on sentencing the men to death. As Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing search for a way out of this nation surrounded by a vast magical net, it soon transpires, conveniently, that romantic love is the only key to opening the gate.

There is also a prophecy in the classics, indicating that one day, a monk from the East will break into it with a monkey, a pig, and a little blue man and the day they arrive is when the Daughter Kingdom will be destroyed.

Can we get PIF being a grandma??

“Sister, it is an honor.”

Princess Iron Fan bit back the urge to roll her eyes at Immortal Ruyi’s low bow. “Thank you for hosting me,” she said instead, bowing back. Ruyi straightened and led her into a dining room, the table set with rich food. She ignored the fact that the table was small enough for their feet to brush. “Now, what is this all about? I am missing time with my grandchildren.”

Honestly, Ruyi had the worse timing. Her son and son-in-law rarely depended on them for babysitting, which made sense considering how far her and her husband lived from them. But things had fallen through with the other babysitters and Red Son had some court business to attend to for her tomorrow. So, while they were on a date, Iron Fan and DBK were babysitting Qi Huiying and baby Lìhuá.

Or, at least DBK was. Because she had to have dinner with this stupid idiot.

“Ah, yes, your…grandchildren.” She rolled her eyes at the pause. 

Ruyi had caused her no small trouble. First, he had proposed to her a year after DBK was sealed away. Red Boy, a tiny toddler still mourning his father, had dealt with him before she could even grab her fan. Then he had attempted to sow discord and dissent against her, a Celestial who still didn’t understand the workings of demons, which was something taken care of when she gave the duty of running the court to Jade Faced Princess. (She was a thorn in her side but she was…friendlier and had grown up beside her husband and brother-in-law.) He had shut his mouth after three generals were executed.

Now, his new troubles lay with Red and the Monkie Kid. First, he had tried to arrange multiple marriages with Red. Next, he tried to ruin the boys’ wedding and relationship. Then he had attempted to sow distrust in Qi Xiaotian’s pregnancy. The entire time he had been homophobic and transphobic.

Iron Fan had been wondering why she hadn’t heard him in a while.

“What is it this time?” Iron Fan asked as she sat down. She had a feeling she would need a chair. Ruyi flicked his fingers and a teapot circled around, pouring two cups of tea. A wine bottle followed, filling glasses with deep red wine. She plucked up the latter and sipped from it. “What did you do this time? A DNA test?”

“Yes, actually.”

Iron Fan couldn’t control her spit-take. She slammed her glass down, sputtering, before managing to wheeze out “What the fuck.”

“You and my brother were clearly content in having the wool pulled over your eyes,” Ruyi snapped his fingers. “So I had to do it myself.” A servant entered, holding an envelope on a tray.

“When did you even-?” Ruyi had come with the invitation yesterday, when the girls were napping in the parlor and the boys were elsewhere. Iron Fan had left to order some calming tea for herself while trusting her husband to keep an eye on his brother. Knowing her husband, getting him out of sight would be easy. “Oh you-”

Wait.

There was only one answer that could be on those tests.

“This is for the good of our clan, sister.” Ruyi plucked up the envelope. “You three are clearly under the Monkie Kid’s spell, so it is up to me.” He opened it. Ruyi pulled out the paper and looked down. "As I believe-"

He went silent. His eyes went wide.

Iron Fan smirked. "As you believe...what?" A strangled squeak came from the demon across from her. She sipped her wine, waiting for any response. "Are you alright, brother?" she cooed. "Is the truth unbearable?"

Ruyi opened and closed his mouth. All that escaped him was a strangled squeak.

That was enough. Iron Fan rose, brushing off her dress. "As entertaining as this was, brother-in-law," she sighed. "I have been away from my grandchildren too long. The baby has taken after my son when it comes to teething and I fear for my husband's face."

The paper fluttered from Ruyi's hands. He continued to stare into empty air.

"Oh, and please do not ever approach my grandchildren again. Thank you so much." Iron Fan turned and walked away, allowing the wind to encase her.

The moment the winds cleared, revealing her bedroom, she burst into a mad cackle.

Oh, that idiot. That stupid, stupid idiot. She would have to call her son to warn him what Ruyi had done, but now? His face? The moment he looked down and saw the truth he refused to realize?

Priceless.

“Nai Nai?” She straightened up and turned to smile at the most valuable sight. Her husband, holding a tiny book with bandages across his face, and her eldest granddaughter stared at her. The baby was contently snoozing in the strap across DBK’s chest. “What’s so funny?” Huiying asked, making grabby arms towards her.

Iron Fan chuckled, scrambling unladylike to join her husband and grandchildren. Huiying was lifted up easily so she could sit in her lap, craning her face back to look at Iron Fan with big brown eyes. “Your great-uncle is an idiot,” she cooed. “That is all, my love. Do not worry. What is Zufu reading to you?”

“A storybook he used to read to Bama!”

“Well,” Iron Fan batted her lashes at DBK. “Don’t let me interrupt you.”

I've previously written how the immortal Li Tieguai (李鐵拐, "Iron Crutch Li") is sometimes shown wearing a golden headband like Sun Wukong (see section 3.1 here). Well, Béla (@thefloorbeast), a reader of my blog, recently sent close up photos of Li from a painting in the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois, USA. One example is attached below.

He appears to be pulling a ghostly sword from behind his ear. Notice that the blade doesn't appear on the other side of his head. This is similar to the way that the Monkey King pulls his staff out from inside his ear. I'm wondering if there is any connection.

I'll make an update if I find anything interesting.

Stone Monkey: himbs baby, that is all <3 he's mostly based off the François Langur, but some of his anatomy and proportions lean more on the Gray Langur and Macaque side of things. His facial fur sort of forms a pentagon shape for the five elements, and I gave him ginger fur cus it's a common depiction for him but also baby langurs are very bright orange, and him not growing dark feels like an apt display of his more childish side, both good and bad. His nails are golden for a bit of a "hidden gem" from a stone egg. Also keeping the tail either in a spiral of C-curve when "engaged", and when droopy it has a feel of a heavy rope. Old World monkeys don't have prehensile tails, he can use it for balance and basic mobility but it's not a third hand for the sake of keeping his monkey-ness.

Handsome Monkey King: in one of the poems the monkeys are said to weave grass for mattresses, so I can see them coming up with a crown of woven grass and never-fading leaves and flowers for their king at the very least. His face skin is darker as an adult, but not much else changes overall. The fuzzy upper lips and sideburns are a feature of the species I'm basing him on and it felt like a good fit to add. I also love the forest langurs are so long-furred, makes for a good way to give him dimension but also, the linework style reminds me of old woodcut shorthands for fur. Added a jade coin for the symbolism, and it feels fitting that the king of such a miraculous mountain would have a treasure like that on him. Placcid chill eyes are imperative, dude's not had an existential crisis yet, he's straight up vibing.

Sun Wukong: during his odd-ten years away from home, he learned human manners so he can stand but, I can see him still needing to lean on his tail to keep up his balance here and there. As he reaches the Western Continent (India) and learns the Way under Patriarch Subodhi, he adopts proper clothes for an apprentice and eventually becomes a Rishi. He dons his facial paint from then on, and after he masters the Way, there's a brightness in his pupils to show his cultivated immortality. The beads are purple solely to stand out over the deluge of oranges that is his design.

Great Sage Equal to Heaven: really went all out on this one orz this is Wukong at his most egotistical and ambitious, and I wanted his fit to truly embody that. Took bits from Peking Opera costumes and common depiction elements of him, with some bit of extra for appropriate levels of flair, like the phoenix feather design. I wanted to go for a mountain pattern mail but I couldn't figure out how to draw it, so I winged a pattern. I,,, doubt I'll ever draw this armor as detailed as here, but I wanted it to feel a bit overwhelming to look at, while also seeming like it doesn't quite fit him perfectly like it's swallowing him. Bit of a "baby wearing their parent's shoes" kind of vibe; he's stupidly powerful but he doesn't have what it takes to sit on the throne of Heaven. Also I leaned his expression to how he might appear during the Havoc in Heaven and then his bet with the Buddha. Full unbrindled rage murder monkey <3

-- Ruyi Jingu Bang: can't quite move on without my notes on the golden-hooped cudgel, now can I? The secondary hoops are there for further design appeal and for my own visualization of how the staff changes size (the hoops move over the staff's length as if to push it outward or inward). The metal is dark damascus alloy, though the pattern can be omitted for ease of drawing. One hoop end depicts a dragon, the other a phoenix, and in the middle of the staff is the canon inscription as described in the books, in seal script. Glow is optional and mostly for aesthetics.

Sun Pilgrim: out of his stolen armor, Wukong seems to swim in his robes but in a less overwhelming way. Went for the simple fillet headband cus his face is busy enough as it is. I know he's skilled enough to skin a tiger into pretty decent squares, but after one too many battles, anything would get tattered. He wears red, teal, black and yellow, four of the five cardinal colors, while white (the West) is still missing. His red and black half-robe doesn't fully cover the yellow underneath, a call back to his golden armor; he tries to use his wisdom and teachings to fight back the impulses of his past, but they still shine through at times. I kept only the leg bangs for dynamic elements to better show movement, but also one could say he's got.... golden hoops (haha get it, like his cudgel?? :oD)

Victorious Fighting Buddha: leaned hard on the actual portrayals of the Buddha. Seeing that he's depicted with dark/blue skin, it felt appropriate to let the guy grow out of his baby ginger fur and into adult black, but a patch remains where the golden headband used to be. I didn't want to give him long hair so no bun, but instead, his fur has a sorta lotus-petals shape now rather than his single point. His face paint changes into a more domino-mask style, and his brow white line resembles a teardrop urna. I made the mail piece he holds longer to keep the flowy bits of his previous outfits, and I turned Ruyi Jingu Bang into the sword he wields.

Sun Wukong! The great demigod equal to the seven seas!

This is from Moana AU, where Wukong is Maui.

Backstory:

When the universe was created a rock was born from it. Here it floated around for a while among the millions of stars and planets. The rock shined a bit but not as much as the massive stars- ilumanating the otherwise empty black space. So, it promised itself, deep, deep down, that it would one day shine as bright as them, somehow...

One day it ended up on earth where it crashed into the ocean, who immedatly took it in as a friend. The ocean strengthened the rock with its most gruesome waves from the mighty storms that would reach the gods. And it would shape it by the tides that would flood Islands and force the living down to the very bottom of the sea.

After a couple thousands years the ocean decied it was time, and the rock ended up on a small island in the Pacific Ocean. Here, it was found by the monkeys, that inhabited the land, and they sensed a form of familiarness from the rock. So, they took care of it, as a mother would take care of her womb.

But as time went on, a great storm took over the entire world. It raised the seas higher than they had ever been and caused many people their lives. From the death and chaos that illumanited the earth, the rock finally split open, the oceans finally calming down with it. Inside the rock, a monkey, like them, was found, and a simple but great time began for this stone monkey.

This, sadly, didn’t last long though. Starvation soon crept up on the small island, and soon fully took over it. It was killing their children and soon even the strongest of the monkeys, and when the nights came, too fast to keep them warm, the already weakend monkeys would die in the cold.

The stone monkey saw this, his family and friends all dying before him, and knew he had to do something. His eyes fell upon the great seas, that helped form his very bones, and soon great voyages, through the big sea started forming in his head.

Unfortunately, for him, the sea was, and still is, mysterious and gruesome to the unprepared. Monkey knew this. And soon, his plans about great voyages were dried out by the very Island that kept him trapped to watch his loved ones quickly die before him. But, unbeknownst to the stone monkey, someone else was watching him. The Gods.

They saw the greatness within the stone monkey, who was created by the very ocean itself, and decided to take pity on this small monkey. They gifted him a golden hooped staff, which the Monkey very creativly named “Ruyi Jingu Bang”, which gave him the power and knowledge to use the 72 transformations. That though would only be start of his soon ever growing strentgh as he, and many others, would soon find out.

Finally prepared for the unforgiven sea, he was abput to set of on his great voayges, when he was stopped by his closest friend, Liu’er Mihou.

Liu’er Mihou wanted to help his close friend and go on great voyages with him, and the stone monkey happily agreed to this, and soon, the two was sailing through the great oceans together.

On their voyages they would lasso the sun, who would finally agree to stay on the sky longer, kill a troublesome demon eel, who, buried, would later become coconuts for the monkeys to feast on, and soon everyone in all the oceans were praising, mostly the stone monkey, names.

The stone monkey was even given a name by a wise immortal, called Master Subodhi, who named him “Sun Wukong”, meaning “Sun who has awoken to emptiness”.

But, through all these great voyages, something else would start to grow, that would become even stronger than the mighteist powers of the gods that watched over them. Liu’er Mihou and Wukongs Bond, which was already quite strong. And soon, the monkies would start to call eachtoher much more than friends, both promising each other that it would last forever…

Is DBK's brother, the True Immortal Compliant, part of your AU?

Yes, but he only makes himself truly known to the characters when:

A: Becomes clear that Red Son has returned to "the real world" from being Guanyin's acolyte.

B: Gossip of Red Son being engaged to the successor/son of the Monkey King makes its way around the Underworld.

C: Spicynoodles has confirmed babies on the way.

Immortal Compliant/Ruyi was once happy being a hermit bull prince. Although when he began extorting the Kingdom of Women by restricting their reproductive rights (aka the Pregnancy Cure Spring), he quickly went down a bit of a self-important rabbit hole. He's a lot scrawnier than DBK, think almost Scar vs Mufasa levels. Has deep maroon fur and his horns (+scepter) are broken from when he and Wukong last fought.

DBK loves Ruyi as his little brother, but admits that he "Can be a real jerk at times." Oh DBK you dont know the half of it.

Since his defeat, he's pretty much been sulking in luxury for the last couple hundred years in the Underworld Bull Kingdom, which has been ungoverned since DBK was imprisoned. Personality wise I'm thinking Prince John from Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

He used to be kind to his nephew really. But the Red Child is a real obstacle if Ruyi ever plans to move up in the world. Ruyi ultimately has to thank Sun Wukong for making his nephew Guanyin's student - it really shot Ruyi up the ranks in the Underworld since Red was considered unlikely to continue that side of the lineage.

And he just so happens to have access to special water that stops any suspected future nephews and nieces from occuring.

But now Red and DBK are back? And now Red is getting married?? And having kids?!? That dont spell good news for Ruyi's new cushy life as top bull. He's gotta do something. Now.

Shocked and horrified bc he wanted to apologize, Macaque ends up spilling the deets to the Camel Ridge Trio. Azure is immediately horrified and decides to find Wukong. And their search leads them to the pilgrims.

Spicynoodles are cast in a remake of Sun Wukong's most cursed movie- a.k.a somehow everyone involved in this broke up for some reason. Smut.

AU where Red keeps running into this very cute guy. Said cute guy seems to be the clumsy type, always falling on his face, but always manages to make a falling pun to save face. Over time, however, said puns turn more flirtatious and Red is starting to become convinced that this cute boy is falling over on purpose.

Sun Wukong manages to avoid getting sucked into the scroll and sends Xiaotian home to get some rest and then get Tang. Unfortunately, the following brawl with Azure locks them both in the treasury overnight. Smut.

AU where the Camel Ridge Trio are not imprisoned in the scroll. After the chaos of Lady Bone Demon, Azure Lion sees two chances: 1. Humans now have a renewed awareness of Heaven's existence due to Nezha smashing into the train. This is not a good look for Heaven and a weakness. 2. Sun Wukong is greatly weakened from his possession and still recovering. So, what's a man to do?

A/B/O AU except stone monkeys don't have secondary genders. So Qi Xiaotian is confused about why he hasn't displayed at all but at least he's not alone in Sun Wukong who is confused by the whole secondary gender thing.

A recently wed Spicynoodles, an engaged Zoisite, and Ironbull end up staying at Immortal Ruyi's home for the summer. Unfortunately Ruyi is a dick who believes that Red and Xiaojiao are married. Spicynoodles and Zoisite smut.

You mentioned the Azure Lion, what background does he have here in fsyy? Are the Yaoguai that serve as mounts in JTTW part of the Jie sect? Can you mention what they are please?

Obligatory Disclaimer: FSYY was written after JTTW, the two novels don't take place in one universe, ppl simply like to HC they do.

But yes, the three yaoguais that serve as the mounts of Manjusri, Samantabhadra and Guanyin——Azure Lion, White Elephant and Golden-haired Hou——are all Jie Sect disciples in FSYY.

They are called the Dragon-headed Immortal(虬首仙), Spirit Tusk Immortal(灵牙仙), and the Golden Light Immortal(金光仙). First appearing in Cha. 72 as one of the many Jie Sect immortals angry at Guangcheng Zi during his visit to Biyou Palace, they are in charge of the Taiji Formation(太极阵), Twin Polarity Formation(两仪阵), and Four Bearings Formation(四象阵) during the Ten Thousand Immortal Formation arc.

Unfortunately for them, the three future Bodhisattvas transform into their Dharma Bodies(法身) and, with the help of the Pangu Banner, Taiji Talisman and Three-treasure Ruyi, break the formations. Then they are all forced to revert to their original form, made into mounts, and paraded before Patriarch Tongtian for extra insults(Cha. 83).

Since you made a comment about not remembering Liu’er’s harem, I compiled one for you! The current list for Liu’er’s harem:

No one else is discussed but I am feral for Liu’er/Macaque being appreciated the way he should be so I’d like to submit some more names into the pile:

1. Azure Lion - still hopelessly in love with Wukong but I like the idea of him being more than aware that he can’t compete with Liu’er so…why not join them? Besides, Liu’er is a pretty demon too, no matter what Peng says.

2. The Demon King of Confusion - the first Big Bad Wukong faces. He took over FFM during Wukong’s time away training. Originally, Wukong faced him alone but Liu’er helped him in the Isekai AU and I guess that caught his eye? Also, this guy has a harem. Probably was a bad influence to the original Wukong.

3. Hu A’Qi - a Huli Jing (fox demon) who’s canonically Jin and Yin’s uncle. Brought him up solely because having Jin and Yin joining the ship war is funny.

4. Immortal Ruyi - apparently he’s DBK’s brother. Wanted to add him because, again, it’s hilarious and I can see DBK be petty and make Wukong’s (love) life harder after the “sealing him under the mountain” thing.

I know most of these characters are just from the “Journey to the West” and not the series but I just want Liu’er to be surrounded with a lot of suitors. Because I want Wukong to suffer.
