Happy Independence Day! The political situation is a little unsettling here in America, but that doesn’t matter right now
I haven’t uploaded in a while because I haven’t done much art non-related to my comic…

When I see her flying, I swell with pride. She may not seem like much to many, sadly a growing majority treat her like a cheap piece of cloth. But to me, she’s a people who refused to be oppressed, she’s a victor who saw opportunity and fought to seize it. She’s a dream fulfilled, a Hope recognized and a reason to defend. She’s strength, unity, and direction in a world which lacks these and so much more. She’s the robe that freedom wears, a splendid site and a welcoming embrace. She’s “Old Glory” and I will eternally defend and honor her with every beat of my heart. Happy Birthday America! I love you!💕🇺🇸
Words of Matt Meeks, my son's father-in-law. Well said.

It’s our flag, too
Over dinner the other night, a friend told us a story about an American flag she and her husband fly at their home on Lake Charlevoix, in northern Michigan.
One of their neighbors, upon noticing the flag, said (at least half-jokingly, I assume), “You’re not Trumpers, are you ...?”
Joke or not, the story only bolstered a suspicion I’ve had for a while now - that the political-right is inching ever closer to claiming for its own what once belonged to all Americans.
We, too, fly a flag at our house, partly because the red stripes accent the blues and whites of the general color scheme (flag and house), but primarily in honor of the ideals and principals of America and in the hope they may some day be realized. On this particular Independence Day we’re struggling as a nation. But that’s a whole other blog ... or 10.
About the flag ... I used to think that people were smart enough to dismiss the notion that those with the biggest flags, or the most flags, were the most patriotic. But somehow, like other whoppers, it became gospel in the eyes of some.
Take a look for yourself. Notice how much more the flag shows up in Right-leaning causes than in Left-leaning causes. Like me, you may wonder how that came to be.
