Deity Blurb 04 - Loki

Loki is the heathen god of... what the fuck are you the god of?

Let me preface this blurb by saying that pretty much ALL of it is going to be based on UPG. Because while we have written records on Odin or Thor, regarding worship and rituals, there's like. Nothing. On Loki.

And, honestly, if it isn't such a Loki thing to do to have their history so muddled and frustrating for historians or even new pagans to try to research, then I don't know what is.

That being said, Loki:

Loki is a god of natural chaos and change, and mischief/trickery. This sounds bad, but it's neutral. Loki plays the role of the Trickster - that is, they push boundaries, break rules, bring about change, and often point out the flaws of the individual, making clear what someone might be hiding, if even from theirself.

Loki is also called Loptr, Hveđrungr, Loke, and possibly Lođurr. The meaning of the name Loki is so vague that it's probably correct. Posited meanings have been "knot," "lock," "airy," "fire," and "entangler."

Loki has two spouses, the Æsir goddess Sigyn, and the Jötunn giantess Angrbođa. With Sigyn, Loki fathered Narfi and Váli, who both are killed by the Æsir. With Angrbođa, Loki fathers three "monstrous" children: Hel, goddess and queen of the dead; Fenrir, who bit off the hand of Týr; Jörmungandr, the world-serpent. These children were each cast out of Asgard in prevention of a prophecy Odin saw, and thus they were each given the power and motive to fulfil their roles in the prophecy Odin tried to avoid. With the horse of the Jötunn who built Asgard's walls, Loki mothers Odin's beloved Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse capable of traversing the very web of the Wyrd. Lastly, in Hyndlulođ, Loki is described as having consumed a half-burnt heart of some angry woman, which then impregnated them, and Loki then gave birth to what is translated as "troll-women," "ogresses," or "witches." Personally I am partial to the "witches" translation.

Loki's parents were each Jötunn, their father Fárbauti (striker), and their mother Laufey (birch, leafy island). Taking from the meanings of the names, one could say Loki was born by the lightning striking a tree. Again, fire associations.

There is the possibility that Loki originated from a spirit of the hearth, especially the flames within it. Parallels between Loki and Logi (god of wildfire) suggest a splitting off evolution from one singular fire elemental. It makes sense to me, anyways, to think of Loki and Logi as two faces of the same flame - one being the domestic fire, and the other being the all-consuming wildfire.

Alongside all of this - Loki is one of them queers. They're not the only one recorded as using disguises, but when Loki is disguises as someone of the opposite sex (take the handmaiden of Thor as an example), they are consistently referred to as that sex, not as "a man in disguise" but as a woman. Genderfluid representation, babes.

In my practice with Loki, he is much more than a comedic relief or antagonist. Loki is the embodiment of natural change, and it's effects on society and civilization. He is the scapegoat but also the light held up to the shadows shoved in the closet. He tells you point blank what you're doing wrong, without any sugarcoating - in the hopes you will try to change, to work on it. He brings unrestrained force into your life, creativity, passion, change, as the enemy of stagnation. After all, a fire that is not stirred, will die.

Offerings to Loki may include:

alcohol

candies and sweets (especially chocolate, licorice, cinnamon candies)

hot peppers/spicy foods

tobacco/tobacco products

hot chocolate

very sweet tea

scented candles or incense (ginger, cinnamon, pine, vanilla, juniper, dragon's blood, pepper, yew)

coffee

mistletoe (especially during Yule)

toys, trinkets, or puzzles

acts of creation (art, music, playlists)

One may decorate an altar to Loki with their symbols (infinity snake, ouroboros, chaos star, name runes Laguz, Othala, Kennaz, Isa); black, gold, red, orange, violet, or green ribbons/cloths/buttons; a particularly large or multi-wicked candle, or multiple candles; an open offering bowl; tiger's eye, obsidian, smokey quartz, amber, fire agate, mother-of-pearl, lapis lazuli, clear quartz, amethyst, tourmaline; herbs such as beech, pine, juniper, blackthorn, birch, elder, elm, ivy, mullein, thistle, willow, and yew.

Devotional acts to Loki may include shadow work, harmless pranks, exploring personal pradox,examining personal bias, playing games (especially card/dice games or hide-and-seek), telling jokes or stories, researching his family, challenging authority, questioning rules, cooking.

Princess Erica's delighted laughter echoes in the bridal hall. Her cerulean hands cup Idia's terrified face, murmuring soft reassurances that do not do anything to sooth Idia's pounding heart. If anything, his hair is flickering the shade of neon blue, borderline navy blue. His blue lips open and close but nothing comes out.

"Somebody do something!" He pleads to the amused looking students that look away from his desperate gaze.

"I do love weddings," Lilia grins. "It's been quite a while since I've been to one!"

"The suit and hairstyle does suit Idia," Vil mutters. "It's regrettable that he never dresses up."

Leona scoffs and rolls his eyes. "Please, we all know he's dying on the inside."

"I am!!" Idia screeches back in panic.

"Choose her, Princess Eliza!"

An oddly familiar figure steps out from behind the double doors, making the frozen boys' eyes widen. Teary-eyed guards look guiltily at the eyes of the royal ghosts.

"I'm so sorry, princess!" One wail. "But this prince, she is worthy!"

The other nods, blowing his nose noisily into a tissue. "She is everything you dream of! She is at least 180 centimeters tall, has healthy, lustrous skin, lidded eyes with a hint of dark mischievousness twinkling in them, a devastatingly charming smile, and bright, shimmering hair!"

"Impossible!" Puffy yells. He points accusingly at a smiling Melody. "You! Prove yourself."

Melody chuckles before stepping forth, showing her entire attire that is now showcased under the bright lights. Her hair, which used to be all black with her bangs messily dyed purple, is now completely lavender with neat black roses braided into the sides. She swapped out her purple headphones for a black necklace and wore silver earrings. She dons black slacks with a silky black dress shirt; over the dress shirt, she wore a black corset and an ashen grey dress coat over her clothes. An aura of mature elegance blossomed outwards and she captured everyone's attention immediately.

She knelt before a flustered Princess Eliza, clasping her hands to kiss her knuckles. She blushed as Melody presented a bright bouquet.

"Baby's breathes for everlasting love, orchids for elegance, tulips for true love, roses for love and passion," Melody crooned. Princess Eliza took them with shaky hands before smelling them; a lovely smile bloomed on her face to the boys' astonishment.

"B-but, you must pass all the tests!" The ghost bride spluttered and Melody nodded, an easy-going smile still on her face.

"For you? I'll fight anything and everything."

Princess Eliza's cerulean face turned bright red. One by one, Melody passed all the tests with practiced ease, making the boys gap.

"Who are you and what have you done with Melody?!" Sebek hollered.

"Sevens- how is she doing it?" Trey wondered aloud. Cater hummed in agreement.

"Come on, Melody! Charm her like the SSR card you are! K.O. her for me!" Idia whisper-shouted.

Melody got up from one knee to clasp the princess's hands. She quickly dipped her romantically and flower motifs blossomed around the devastatingly beautiful duo.

"Pick me," Melody's lips were centimeters from Princess Eliza's. Her warm breathes caressed her face, making red bloom on her cerulean face. "Love me for infinity."

"I do!" Princess Eliza squealed.

MGS4s quirkiest gun, the Race Gun

So, in Metal Gear solid 4, there's a gun dubbed the "Race Gun" also sometimes known as the "Ricochet gun"

In gameplay terms, this gun does less damage per hit than the Glock 18 - 300 dmg, whereas the Race Gun does 200 dmg. Despite using a cartridge that's rated for higher pressure. The game's way of explaining it, is that it's using reduced charged ammo. In reality, you would also need to change spring weights as well, to ensure reliable cycling. This design of a double-stack 1911 pistol with a 2 piece frame, is usually referred to as a "2011" pistol. Technically that term is owned by a another manufacturer of double-stack 1911s with 2 piece frames, but "2011" is generic enough in my opinion.

So the race gun. What kind of racing is it for? It's optimized for IPSC Standard and USPSA Limited division. Judging by the baseplate of the magazine being flat and running paralell to the slide, it mimicks guns that has to fit within the Standard division box in IPSC.

This particular looks to fit the USPSA Limited Division slightly more close. The main point behind USPSA Limited / IPSC Standard, is that you can have a very conventional gun in 9x19 or bigger, and it has to fit within a box, without that many funky additions like a ported barrel, optic, muzzle brake or really large magazine. The 2011 pistols are the current domineering guns in these divisions, but we are seeing more different guns rise up in the top levels of competitions, Nils Jonasson represented Canik with a striker-fired pistols in Limited Division at the previous United States Practical Shooting Association's (USPSA) National Championship in Limited Division.

These guns are usually chambered in .40 S&W as that's the minimum caliber to fit the require for what is called "Major" power factor. The benefit is that for hits that are outside the center, but still on target, you will get less punishment for sloppy precision. The downside however, is more recoil and less capacity. This will really bite you in the ass in shooting events with high round counts, forcing you to reload more often. The gun in the game however, is supposed to be chambered in .38 Super also known as 9x23mm.

So, what we do we gain by using this cartridge instead? If you look really close, .38 Super / 9x23 has slightly less of a taper than 9x19. The cartridge can also be roll-sized to slim down the cartridge slightly more to make sure you get more cartridges in the same magazine. So not only is 19 rounds a realistic capacity, I would argue the should have 1 or 2 more rounds, perhaps even more 3 more rounds considering how some people are tuning springs and magazine followers. IPSC Standard Division does not limit your magazine by number of bullets, but in actual length, that way, it's up to the competitors and equipment manufactures to see how hard they can squeeze.

What is the military/law enforcement application of such a pistol?

The benefits are very clear. You can use higher capacity magazines, more precise guns for more precise shots increasing the range of how far a sidearm would be useful for the soldier/operator. A better trigger as well allowing for the person pulling the trigger to be more confident in their equipment. We are also seeing more and more police agencies and law enforcement departments allowing officers to personally use 2011s and red dot equipped pistols.

For the MGS4 Race gun in particular, the base gun is obviously by the historic Streyer-Voight Infinity. Currently, as of writing, to order a gun, you must go through their consultation, which costs $1000, this is on top of their guns in general starting at $4500, so that means you are looking at $5500 before you even have picked a color.

This does give you a pistol of incredible craftsmanship which will last as long you take care of it. So yes, despite the quirkiness of it, it's a highly realistic gun and with modern machining quality only increasing and becoming more affordable, we are likely going to see even more of these pistols in the future. Why do I do this to myself?

Vs. Will This fight wasn't too bad.  BP Karen packs an astonishing punch, and Nanu's sync nuke is...actually a really strong nuke.  Dark-type always felt like a lower-tier typing on an F2P budget, but it turns out I've been neglecting Karen for too long.  She's pretty great.  The biggest problem with this set is BP Surge being so frail.  Your support dropping in like three hits is never good.

Vs. Karen UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH. Okay.  Look.  Fuck this fight.  +2 evasion is bullshit, I had to try this like five dozen times, and we came within an inch of success, losing exclusively because a last-second Rock Smash that would've put her in KO range missed, or I missed a quad-queue, or some kind of stupid nonsense.  It was every time!  The worst part is, if Maylene had her grid?  We would've had this won attempt 1.  Because Precision Pals and Pep Rally solves this fight.  Bruno needs the speed, and the accuracy boosts changes this entire fight.  But without that, this stage is wildly frustrating.  I hate this fight so much.

Vs. Koga So! Initially, this was meant to be an attempt at having Lodge Serena clear a fight on an F2P budget, because I'm trying to make those units work out.  And you know how Flying-weak Koga has sides with like...infinity billion defense? Turns out, Lodge Serena cannot KO.  Cannot.  Like, does not come close.  Even her sync with Hop's Behemoth Bash doesn't do it.  But you know who does do it?  Kahili.  My girl.  Her sync nuke can take out side thanks to defense debuffs, even without Super Preparation.  Kahili is such a chad.  It did take two attempts to get the flinch rate on Conkeldurr, because it will KO everyone with Earthquake otherwise, but Kahili is never the problem.

Vs. Bruno Victory lap time.  Psychic-weak means Giovanni.  I initially thought about Tate. But then I thought, after the other two things...no.  No to that.  I'm out.  Roxanne, Giovanni, kill this clown.  Erika's helping with special defense drops off Energy Ball.  With the special condition boosting secondary effect rates, it was a pretty established guarantee of a drop.  And I'd like to also point out, despite being Fighting-weak, Roxanne handles this stage just fine, because Endurance.  She's so good.  Endurance is so good.

Vs. Lance I briefly entertained the idea of Zinniquaza.  I have Winona right here, all we really need is someone who can cap crit.  I have Lodge Elesa, it was possible. But I've suffered enough.  Cyrus time.  And let me tell you.  Cyrus/Winona stays winning.  These two are champions in everything they do.

Final Thoughts I know Johto's considered one of the weaker stadiums, because it's old and a sufficient striker can blitz it.  But this week felt hard as hell.  If it wasn't for Psychic/Dragon as the finale, I feel like this would've been way harder than it seems.  Dark wasn't too bad, but the Fighting-weak stage having evasion sucks, and the Flying-weak stage having such potent defensive sides made this really threatening.  I dunno.  This one's rougher than most.

I'm tempted to at least try F2P next week.  See if it's even remotely possible in Kalos.  I don't know if I will.  I may just want to let that go.  We'll see how ambitious I'm feeling.

hi!! i was trying to find the previous answer i wrote about whether getting p5s is worth it but the tumblr search function wouldn't play ball so i'm just going to awkwardly sum it up again hdfkjg

imo? underwhelming game, great roadtrip AU fic. the gameplay is mediocre to irritating but i trudged thru it because the friendship content is rly rly cute. i liked the virtual tourism aspect of it as well. you might enjoy it more than me if you're a fan of beat-em-ups (i know i'm not). the two new characters are also meh but at least they don't steal too much focus from the rest of the group. also: worth it for me just to see ryuji finally get to say fuck (thanks max mittelman, voice of the people, for fighting for that one) but since the price tag is p hefty idk if that alone is gonna clinch it for you gdfkgj. if you rly love these kids, can get it reduced, or are ok with pirating it i'd say it's worth giving it a whirl. otherwise idk tbh!

as for other recommendations, i am unfortunately someone who usually replays the same 5 games in perpetuity so i don't have a lot BUT i've been playing the two entries in the pathfinder series by owlcat games (kingmaker and wrath of the righteous) and i definitely recommend those. they're based on infinity engine games, so if you enjoyed e.g. baldur's gate or pillars of eternity, you might like them too. (though both also have a turnbased option if you're more of a divinity: original sin person.) imo the plot and companion writing of wrath of the righteous is better, but i'd still recommend starting with kingmaker if you're new to the pathfinder ttrpg system (based on d&d 3e) because it's pretty complex and wotr adds a lot of mechanics that you will probably find really overwhelming without a grasp on the basics. they're pretty standard epic fantasy type stories but they leave you a lot of freedom re: choices and character alignment. also, you can be gay in both, which is always nice.

also standard recommendations i give to everyone regardless are prey and the shadowrun series (esp dragonfall and hong kong).

honestly ive been thinking about this for a while &. bellatrix / b.eretta has never stopped & will never stop loving striker. striker is her protector, her king, her everything & her infinity. he's the first person who treated her like a person. he cared for her, he respected her, he took care of her, he protected her, he avenged her, he defended her honor & murdered her abusers; they grew up together as children, went through hell & back & witnessed unimaginable horrors together as children growing up under the government's human experimentation & abuse, they had nothing except each other for a very long time, they have an unbreakable bond that's unparalleled with anybody else in their canon verse. & her portrayal is HEAVILY intertwined with a portrayal of striker from someone who i used to know & even now i genuinely can't see her with anyone else in a romantic relationship so like. i& won't be shipping her with anyone romantically in any of my& verses for her, whether it's her canon verse in g.angsta. or otherwise like her asoiaf verse, but she is bisexual & a sex worker & a courtesan / escort / sugar baby as well as a spy & assassin so sexual encounters, fake romances & seduction missions are bound to happen & ofc that doesn't mean your muse can't love or fall in love or be infatuated with her because she's a gorgeous woman & canonically the most beautiful woman in her canon storyline & she's extremely charismatic, flirtatious & domineering & the epitome of the femme fatale albeit turned on its head in the sense that she's a mixed indigenous woman who takes her sexuality back — her victims often but not exclusive to being wealthy white men & killing them afterward when she's taken their money, their holdings & ultimately their lives — & uses others for her own gain as well as her found family's — the other destroyers — wellbeing, & she's both a subtle & highly efficient player; a combination of beauty & deadly grace, she is at home amongst the carnage of a battlefield & political games but it just won't be reciprocated on her end & honestly that's okay & that just makes things more interesting & shipping isn't everything either & there are many other types of dynamics to explore.

SHADOW STRIKER ( Deluxe ) Generations LEGACY EVOLUTION *Cyberverse*

Il quarantennale dei Transformers è ormai qui, ed è giusto che, nella trilogia Legacy che lo celebra, ci siano sì le versioni aggiornate dei personaggi più famosi, ma anche che trovino spazio tizi magari misconosciuti ma con qualcosa da dire, come questa SHADOW STRIKER, uno dei pochissimi personaggi inediti della serie Cyberverse, nota per aver perlopiù rimasticato i G1.

Anzi no, alla fine S.S. si rifà ad un'oscura fembot esclusiva di 20 anni fa basata sullo stampo del RiD / Car Robots 2000 Side Burn / Speedbreaker, ed ironicamente sia questi che la Decepticon Cyberverse hanno una sorta di mirino nell'occhio sinistro ( laddove la Shadow esclusiva del 2003 aveva una testa nuova e "normale" ). Per chiudere il cerchio, quindi, la nostra Legacy si presenta con una modalità ROBOTICA che si ispira fortemente all'omonima del 2003, aprendo così le porte ad un'eventuale repaint / remold per il più famoso Side Burn Rid!

Ma se già Skyquake Leader Legacy era un ibrido moderato fra il personaggio di Prime ed il Predator G1.2, qui invece si pesca a piene mani dal design di Side Burn, a cominciare dal petto col motore in vista, i due pannelli dietro la schiena e le ruote ai lati delle cosce.

Del personaggio Cyberverse mantiente la testa, poi le … uhm, altre 2 ruote piatte dietro le spalle e schiena, e la colorazione, anche se qui il viola principale è davvero tale, e non così tanto mitigato da tocchi di nero su piedi, mani, anche, bicipiti e poco altro, laddove il design originale del cartone aveva anche un po' di argento o azzurro sparso nel corpo.

Stranamente per i miei standard, questa tendenza al monocromatismo per una volta mi piace, devo ammetterlo! … anche se a dire il vero sarebbero stati un po' pigri gli Hasbro, stavolta, dato che il personaggio nel cartone aveva la sua colorazione viola solo nei flashback della serie, dato che la sua storia la vedeva sopravvivere a stento ad un scontro con Bumblebee per poi farsi malamente riparare da Shockwave come una sorta di packwork di pezzi e colori diversi, quasi alla Autobot Spike.

Visto che nella linea originale non è MAI comparsa con il look post trauma, in teoria era da sperare che capitasse almeno qui, e invece se ne sono sbattuti per bene di questa caratteristica, evvabbè! ^^''

Ed è un peccato che, originariamente, lo stampo di Side Burn si sarebbe prestato bene a rappresentare la versione patchwork di Shadow Striker, per via della sua asimmetria naturale, con il tettuccio a mo' di scudo sul braccio sinistro ed il paraurti anteriore come spalliera destra, dettagli presenti anche nella nostra Legacy, ma come accesori staccabili: se il tettuccio / scudo è comodo che si possa staccare e sistemare a piacimento su l'uno o l'altro braccio, il paraurti ( qui posteriore ) non si può attaccare sulle spalle ma al limite anch'esso sul foro degli avambracci, giusto per aggiungere un pizzico di asimmetria, anche se così puzza un po' troppo di partformer.

Oppure. Oppure lo si usa sull'arma della nostra, che così con un colpo solo può imitare entrambe le armi dell'originale Side Burn: questi infatti aveva una pistola dorata a doppia impugnatura che poteva passare anche per una sorta di pugnale, ed un fucile sparante ( il missile era il tubo di scappamento, che qui non si butta via niente! ) con il paraurti posteriore sulla canna che lo faceva somigliare ad una balestra.

Beh, indovinate? Anche qui c'è la pistola / pugnale con doppia impugnatura, MA con un bel foro sulla canna su cui mettere appunto il paraurti vacante e citare così pure la balestra di Side Burn! La pistola, infine, può sistemarsi a riposo nascosta nel pannello / portiera destro che pende dalla schiena.

Ciliegina sulla torta, la nostra Decepticon è snodatissima con tanto di rotazione dei pugni, ed il dettaglio di avere questi semi aperti, in modo da poter impugnare solo lei la pistola a mo' di pugnale, a causa di un pernino sull'impugnatura di questo che impedisce a quei robot che hanno i fori sui pugni "chiusi". Mah, chissà perchè sta cosa.

Infine, come robot Deluxe non è altissima, non al livello di un Minibot grande, ma siamo quasi lì, cosa che ha senso magari in quanto fembot ma che magari si ripercuoterà nella modalità veicolare.

A parte il fatto che bisogna poi riattaccare il succitato paraurti, facendo finta che sia parte dell'arma, vabbè, ma già dal robot si intuisce che la TRASFORMAZIONE non sia così scontata o già vista nella maggior parte dei colleghi Generations, per via delle braccia leggermente indietro rispetto alla testa, dato che queste sono attaccate al pannello della schiena che si separa e slitta verso l'alto. Bello pure come si srotola il petto, facendo saltar fuori il muso dell'auto ( anche se per dovere di somiglianza alla S.S. Cyberverse era meglio questo formasse direttamente il petto, invece che nasconderlo, ma tant'è ), e vada ad unirsi al pube, col particolare rosso al centro della cintura che finisce quindi sulla punta del cofano! <3

Ma prima di ciò bisogna ruotare verso l'interno i pannelli con le ruote posteriori e le portiere, in modo da proiettare all'indietro ed unirvi le gambe, anche se forse è meglio posizionare PRIMA il cofano e poi fissare le gambe, dato che l'aggancio del primo alle anche pare davvero arduo! Infine, si chiude lo scudo / tettuccio, che almeno questo non serve staccarlo da una delle braccia a scelta durante la trasformazione, e volendo nello spazio fra le queste vi si può nascondere la pistola, anche se non si fissa a nulla.

Almeni l'AUTO SPORTIVA risultante, questa sì, somiglia abbastanza al veicolo della Cyberverse del cartone, a parte il colore ovviamente, con dettagli come il succitato piccolo pentagono rosso sul muso, questo con una piccola protuberanza centrale, le "pieghe" ai lati del muso e sulle portiere, ed un po' la forma dei fari, così come i cerchioni rossi ( l'effetto ruote Kinder è smussato dai colori scuri della carrozzeria, almeno ).

Ovviamente c'è quel cavolo di motore in vista sul cofano che non c'entrerebbe con la Cyberverse, ma anche il tettuccio è abbastanza normale e poco futuristico come dovrebbe essere invece l'auto della nostra SS. I vetri erano azzurri nel cartone, ma la plastica rossa fa pendant con i cerchioni e risalta l'aria di veicolo malvagio.

L'auto quindi non sarebbe male nel contesto del design dei Cyberverse, abbastanza squadrato, ma con un occhio che guarda al futuro, ovvero all'annunciato Side Burn Legacy, si spera che cambino gli stampi di portiere e muso per farla somigliare abbastanza ad una Dodge Viper! ^^'

Di sicuro come Deluxe l'auto è piccina, e con solo un foro sul tetto per armi ( e uno sul retro, per quel che può servire ), ma perlomeno, come dicevo su, si può nascondere la pistola all'interno della vettura, che nel complesso è carina e ben confezionata, così come il robot e la trasformazione, e la nostra S.S. quindi per me è stata una gradita sorpresa nel marasma dei personaggi più famosi e noti.

Magari, vista la scarsità di massa, se si può comprare scontata piuttosto che a prezzo pieno, sarebbe meglio, ma di certo è una perla rara in mezzo ai Generations odierni. ^^
