So for anyone who’s using Google for reasons and wants it to be actually functional, click “tools” underneath the search bar and switch from “all results” to “verbatim” so that google will stop trying to read your mind and just show you the results you actually asked for. Unfortunately I haven’t found a way to make that my default, but if I discover it, I’ll let you know.

The tools bar also lets you set a specific time parameter now, not just “within the past week/month/year,” so if you are looking for something from 2015, you can screen out irrelevant modern news articles.
