My Hot Take for the Day
After the James Somerton situation, the SWOOP exposes Johnny Silvestri in the Colleen Ballinger situation, and other videos where youtubers do serious investigative work, I feel like some of these youtubers should be recognized for their efforts.
SWOOP has already been on multiple news outlits for her youtube videos, why don't we give these people more recognition?
I can already name some people that should, I don't know, get an award for investigative journalism or something
Coffeezilla (Specifically regarding his SBF & Save The Kids Crypto scam series)
SWOOP (The Colleen Ballinger series, specifically)
Hbomberguy (For the Plagiarism, Roblox, vaccines, and climate change videos specifically)
Philosophy Tube (specifically for the vaccine video, that was an awesome study)
FriendlyJordies (Got his house fire bombed when he investigated Australia's government & many more people & organizations)
This is a starting list, but please, feel free to add to the list, we need to give these people more recognition!
I don't know the best way to formally recognize youtubers for investigative journalism, but I do know these are some people you should take seriously. Their work is unmatched.

Hey tumblr a year ago local australian youtuber/investigative journalist friendjordies house was firebombed. This is the video that they tried to kill him for (allegedly)
youtube
You'll notice it's a reupload. That's because a year later the police "investigations" haven't worried the crime family in question. They continued to threaten jordy until he finally pulled the video. Sure would be a shame if a whole lot more people watched it because of those threats 👀
Come on people. Streisand effect these bastards.

2024 Supported Org: Bellingcat
Over the past two decades, the American public's faith in mainstream news organizations has dropped precipitously -- in a Gallup survey last year, more than half of respondents indicated that they believe news organizations actively mislead the public. The major organs of mainstream media have made many choices that have cost them the public's trust, often relying on the "both sides" model of reporting at the expense of a full and truthful picture and treating politics as a horse race.
But these organizations are also under significant pressure as they struggle to adapt to the radical technological shifts in our media environment. These shifts have cut into traditional revenue streams, driving news organizations toward the sort of reporting that will generate revenue. They have also created both the possibility of and the need for new approaches to reporting, and many legacy news outlets have struggled to adapt.
Tumblr media
Bellingcat is an independent investigative collective of researchers, investigators and citizen journalists that uses cutting-edge technology to engage in fact-checking and open-source intelligence investigation outside the apparatus of major journalistic publications. In addition to doing their own reporting, Bellingcat designs and shares verifiable methods of ethical digital investigation. By publishing walkthroughs to open source research methods and holding tailored training sessions on their use for journalists, human rights activists, and members of the public, they’re broadening the scope and application of open source research. Their research is regularly referenced by international media and has been cited by several courts and investigative missions.
Operating in a unique field where advanced technology, forensic research, journalism, transparency and accountability come together, Bellingcat believes in the need for collaboration and has partnered with news organisations across the globe. Likewise, Bellingcat’s Global Authentication Project (GAP) seeks to harness the power of the open source community by nurturing and encouraging a network of volunteer investigators. Their Justice & Accountability unit, meanwhile, seeks to demonstrate the viability of online open source information in judicial processes.
You can support Bellingcat as a creator in the 2024 FTH auction (or as a bidder, when the time comes to donate for the auctions you’ve won.)

I'm investigating a scam.
I have been put into these massive WhatsApp group chats ~200 - 500 members. There are a few group admins, the country codes include +1(US), +44(UK), +7(RU/KZ). The majority of the people included in the group have +1 country code.
These chats are named something along the lines of "AI Automation wealth train". Generally the admins only allow admins to message the group. The chat also has these "bots". They personify a public figure related to finance. These "bots" are not admins, so periodically all members are allowed to comment. I've checked the messages to see if they were created by an AI like ChatGPT and etc., it seems like they were not.
I'm still trying to figure out how exactly these bots work. I noticed that at least one had a WhatsApp business account. It seems like the messaging is automated.
The messages are emoji filled, but seems to be "garbage". They want us to buy gold, silver and crypto. The messages tell us to buy crypto, one explicitly said etherium. They haven't posted an exchange or anything to use. I'm waiting for the scam angle (aside from the possible pump n' dump).
If you have been added to any chats like this and want to help me out, feel free to comment below or DM me.

Today is Brazilian Independence Day and in honor of it we ahould talk about how Brazil is a settler colonial state. In particular, the Figueiredo Report which revealed Brazil's genocide of 6 million Natives in the 1900s.
In 1967, Public Prosecutor Jader de Figueiredo Correia compiled the 7000 page report on decades of genocide of Indigenous peoples detailing how the Brazilian govt's Indian Protection Service and healthy landowners collaborated to genocide Natives and steal their lands.
The Figueiredo report details the tactics used to commit Indigenous genocide, including the use of arsenic, shootings, and throwing dynamite from a helicopter. The journalist Norman Lewis said here "The tragedy of the Indian in the USA in the last century was being repeated."
The Figueiredo Report was so damning, it upended Brazil's Native policy. 50 officials and the Indian Protection Service was replaced with the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) in 1967. Then the Report was suspiciously lost in a fire that same year until it reappeared in 2013.
While Brazil has much to be proud of regarding Indigenous policy, including the FUNAI's founding and 1988 Native recognition in the constitution. But Brazilian Settler Colonialism as a living institution is undeniable with the Figueiredo report and, now, Bolsonaro's presidency.
