both angel the series and buffy the vampire slayer have characters who are fun villains that struggle with being in love with their enemies with benefits and refer to themselves as “evil” often. are introduced with a partner of the opposite gender who leaves by end of the second season but comes back into town for a bit in the fifth season. when their enemy with benefits breaks up with them they say something like “i’ve heard this song before” (but then that time it’s for real) and the scene makes me so sad for them. works with people who cause apocalypses but doesn’t particularly want to see one happen. is sometimes dressed in “black and white” clothing as symbolism for their morality compared to other characters. once dressed in the outfit of their enemy-with-benefits' more wholesome love interest to attract said enemy like it's some kind of weird drag. experiences… discrimination in the workplace. makes out with titular character. flirty interaction with faith lehane. gets a villain’s damn finger poked into their chest while on their back and is saved by their love interest; once saved they reveal something that helps protect a teenager related to the protagonist. has/had a sick mom. my friend.

yes tara willow and kennedy are amazing barrier-breaking representation and I adore them with my whole entire heart forever and ever, but also here’s just a friendly reminder that:

spike and angel have canonically had sex, as have darla and drusilla

lorne just straight up shamelessly asks angel out that one time (and is. you know. lorne)

I was gonna split it up into like ten different points but honestly just faith and buffy’s entire relationship you know exactly what I mean

also self explanatory, lindsey’s complete and utter obsession with angel that literally ends with his name being his last words. he is not normal about that old man like “it’s not me you wanna screw it’s him” “I wanna know the details, everything he did to you” UM HELLO WHAT

fred canonically has a crush on willow

buffy has a sexual and romantic relationship with a woman in the comics

lorne mentions picking up demon girls in pylea, meanwhile his mother has a whole ass beard and more testosterone than a bodybuilder (also he’s. you know. LORNE)

xander thinks having sex with spike is understandable because he is strong and mysterious and sort of compact but well muscled

illyria exists outside the gender binary

the visions are canonically passed by what is essentially true love’s kiss, and will only transfer if the person romantically loves the other person. in a universe where cordelia didn’t join angel investigations, doyle gave the visions to angel. I am so incredibly normal about this fact

vampire willow is very intensely bisexual, and angel confirms that vampires hold the same attractions as their human selves

AU where after the Trial Angel turns Darla into a vampire with a soul, because I am compelled by the idea of ensoulled Darla and the complexity that would lend to their relationship.

There will be non-canon relationships in the mix here determined only by what compels me so it very much will be not to everyone's taste.

Yes it's 5 AM I couldn't sleep because I just rewatched Seeing Red and Villains before bed and it made me crazy so my mind kept going back to other plotlines that make me crazy until I had no choice but to exorcise this demon.

...

"Hey!" Darla shouted. She didn't like the way Drusilla was looking at Angel, even though she knew he could hold his own. He had just survived the trials for her. It occurred to her that he may be too weakened from that to fight effectively. "This is between you and me. So why don't you let him go and we'll settle this?"

"Settle," Drusilla mused. "Like it's some sort of score?"

"Isn't it? Come over here and I'll give you what I owe you."

Darla tilted her neck, allowing the hair to fall away from it to expose her veins. "Is this what you wanted? What we took from you?"

"I'm only here to help." Her voice dripped with sickly honey from a diseased hive.

"I know, dear," Darla said wearily.

Drusilla's face changed to something horrible and bumpy, her fangs sharp as needles. She leaned in close.

"So am I," Darla whispered regretfully as her right hand connected with a stake that had been left on Angel's desk. She swung it with all her might, but found her wrist held once more in an iron grip.

"Bad mummy," Drusilla said. "No playtime for you and you'll have to be sent away without supper."

BTVS boop head canons:

Angel is on tumblr but types with one finger. he finally got the hang of reblogs last month. he is scared of the boop button and does not try. he makes a mental note to ask Cordelia to explain it to him.

Spike boops Buffy, then realizes how that looks. he begins to boop all the Scoobies, Willow first. he begrudgingly also boops Xander.

Buffy has been busy so is late with the boops. she's overwhelmed by all the boops she has and closes her tumblr tab half way thru booping people. her first boop is Willow, then Xander. she boops Faith back but not Spike. [sorry Spuffy fans, i'm a Fuffy truther] sadly she also boops Parker.

Willow boops everyone, Tara first. Tara ofc boops back. so does Oz.

Tara only boops the Scoobies and her witch friends. while she doesn't boop freely, to her boops are more about friendship than anything else.

Xander boops Spike first, then realizes how that looks. he rapidly boops everyone else, including Giles. (Giles ignores it, but is shaken up that Xander knows about his secret tumblr account "rugged_Sunnydale_librarian.") Anya is glad Xander booped her, she was wondering why it took so long.

(All the Scoobies know about Giles's "secret" tumblr account, since he keeps forgetting to log out of it on the Magic Box research computer.)

Anya gives very limited boops. she's annoyed that tumblr didn't monetize it somehow, since that's what she would do. "it's such an obvious opportunity!"

Cordelia boops a few select old classmates from Sunnydale, but not Buffy. she happily boops Angel, Fred, Gunn, Lorne, and Wesley, in that order. [idk i haven't seen all of ATS]

Lorne boops everyone and won't shut up about booping.

Lilah and Wesley only boop each other.

Lindsey boops Angel and Lilah, but neither boop him back.

Gunn shyly boops Fred and she instantly boops back.

Faith boops Buffy. when Buffy doesn't boop back immediately she boops another 10 times, thinking it didn't go through. when she realizes that all 11 boops went through, she panics and drafts a "sorry yo my tumblr got hacked" post just in case. when Buffy boops her back (once) she grins like a cheese ball for 2 days straight. as an afterthought she also boops the Scoobies.

Giles has a secret tumblr. he scoffs at all the booping, until Jenny boops him. he grins and sends her a long text in response thanking her (like text msg on his phone), signing it with his name like he does with every text.

have we ever considered what if Illyria possessed Lindsey

I think it would be hilarious if Lindsey gets infected and collapses in the middle of the lobby and people are like, "Are you okay?" and he snaps at them to leave him alone, which they do, and then he gets mad at them for doing what he asked them to do. The whole time he's passive aggressively soliciting attention about how sick he is, like he walks into Angel's office to deliver some files, visibly dying, "Btw I collapsed in the lobby from overwork if you even care" and Angel's like "Uh huh bye." Anyways he then gets fully Illyria'd over his lunch break and comes back with a new demeanor and blue hair and nobody notices lmao. Like:

Illyria: This world disgusts me. You are all like insects, worthless and easily crushed beneath my feet. Gunn: Haha, hilarious as always, McDonald. So, about those documents...

And then Illyria and Knox make serious headway on their evil mission just because no one realizes what's going on. The only person who notices is Lilah, when during a meeting Angel mentions something about going on a date with Nina, and "Lindsey" is normal about it and doesn't immediately flip the desk over or punch a wall. And slowly it dawns on people that Lilah's right, Lindsey HASN'T been participating in that weird psychosexual game with Spike where they act out to compete for Angel's attention. Anyways I think if they realized Illyria was in Lindsey's body instead of the body of someone they cared about they'd just airlock him amogus style

Congratulations to GETHAN, your winner for the Buffyverse Divorce Tournament!

With 59% of the votes in the final round, Gethan is also one of the relationships with the fewest number of episodes (4!) across Buffy and Angel. Among the top three, it's also the shortest relationship with the youngest members! The ship dominated its run to the finals, only slipping below 60% during the final match-up.

In second and third place are Dangel and Spangel, respectively. Spangel lost to Gethan in the semi-finals, then fought their way through the losers' bracket with two more wins to take third.

Thanks all for participating in our celebration of separation, our party for partings, our anniversary for annulment. Enjoy some more fun facts below, and remember! Divorce is more than just a piece of paper. :)

RANDOM FACTS:

Angel is the only individual to have multiple relationships in the top 3. Spike came close, with Sprusilla in fourth place.

Sprusilla had the longest run in the losers' bracket; after being knocked out by Dangel in round one, they survived all the way to the losers' bracket semi-finals (top 4!). This also makes three of the top 4 a Fanged Four couple.

In addition to the top 3, five other couples made it farther in the rounds than Hank x Joyce, the only canonically divorced couple on the shows. These were:

Xander x Anya

Wesley x Lilah

Xander x Cordelia

Spike x Drusilla

Faith x Buffy

Gethan had the most resounding victory in the tournament, beating Frunn with 95% of the votes. The closest matches were Weslah vs Hank x Joyce and Willoz vs Spuffy, both with results split ~51:49.

Besides Buffy, Spike, and Angel, the only characters with multiple relationships in the tournament were Willow, Xander, and Wesley. Of these three, Xander's relationships made it furthest in the tournament (both went further than Hank x Joyce), followed by Wesley, then Willow.

The only Angel ship that failed to make it out of the first round is Bangel.

Although Buffy had four ships (out of 16 participants) in the tournament, the only one that made it past the second round is Fuffy.

Fuffy is also the only f/f ship (of two) that made it out of the first round, but made it all the way to the top 6.

There were three m/m ships among the original 16 participants, making up just 19% of the represented couples. By the finals, they made up 67%(!) of the top 3.
