I don't mean to sound bossy, but you kinda forgot to put a link of you're 'Holiday Special' Part 5 in you're pinned post. Just a heads up.
But Part 5 isn’t out yet-- Ohh-hohoho I see what you did there. I promise part 5 is coming along. It’s just taking a looong time since this is the first… “action sequence” I’ve ever really done. Also real life forces me to not work on it as much as I would like (I’m a little lady with a lot of social obligations. Today alone I have both a tea party and a wedding to attend so not getting much done today sigh). But it is coming along! Have a panel…

i feel the need to remind everyone that Damen’s literally one of the smartest and most well-educated characters in the series. He’s extremely well-read and knowledgeable about military tactics and strategy, which if you didn’t know also includes a huge depth of history knowledge, and his talent comes from both education and years of experience. He’s smart enough to know geography and terrain information of an area he hasn’t needed to have information on in seven years, and even then, the lands they are talking about were in mainland Vere, not Delpha, so his studies were his own initiative. he has favorite poems! HE ENJOYED DEBATING OBSCURE PHILOSOPHY WITH HESTON!!! like yall Damen is just as intelligent as Laurent, it’s just that Laurent’s intelligence is about manipulation and chess and Damen’s just a nerd.
(also people are gonna be coming for me for this one but i think Damen likes books and libraries a lot more than Laurent ever did)

I find it highly amusing how in situations where the ninja are separated/it's just the OG four, Kai and Zane immediately assume control/start spearheading the team because apparently no one else is sane enough or in the right mind to do so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your honour, they literally have one of the best dynamics in the show, with how they're probably the most protective people in the team. And it makes me mad how this is overlooked by the fandom and the show.

Keeley & Rebecca vs Nate & Ted
#tedlassoedit#tvedit#tvgifs#ted lasso#rebecca welton#keeley jones#nathan shelley#my stuff#lots i didnt like about season 2 but i did greatly enjoy these 'parallels'#not exactly parallels but you know#echoes or something like that#nate and keeley both start out intimidated#but keeley quickly establishes herself as an equal#and she and rebecca develop a more mutual relationship#meanwhile nate idolizes ted and never escapes the hierarchical aspect of their relationship#even after he becomes a coach and - technically - ted's equal#and that's despite knowing he is more competent than ted technically speaking#also the fact that mentorship means such different things for nate and keeley#for keeley it's much more aspirational she wants to *be like* rebecca (you know - 'a boss')#nate doesnt really want to be like ted he just wants to *be liked by* ted#it's about approval for him#besides ted was never going to teach nate anything about football which is what nate thinks its all about anyway#so the head pats were his reason to stay when that runs dry he's just angry#and then how all of that ties into their relationships with their parents (keeley with her mum and nate with his dad)#anyway the contrast between nate and keeley's partings is so stark#keeley leaves because she is ready#but the way nate leaves is the very proof he is so not#does that make sense? idk#anyhow 16 DAYS!!!!#ps: im gonna beat anyone who tags this talking about nate in a way that makes it clear theyve never heard of nuance in their lives

Navy Seals train for about 2 1/2 years. Clone troopers train their whole lives, and say if they start physical training at 7/14 that’s 3 years.
What I’m saying is we should take the competence of any trooper and multiply it by at least five.
Even the most standard trooper is equal to any elite operative. I’m talking about Captain America and Winter Soldier rolled into one. They’re so accurate it’s terrifying. They can sprint like it’s the Olympics and barely be winded. They can and do tear droids apart with their bare hands. For fun.
ARC troopers? One man army, able to keep up with the Jedi. The Padawans all check and double check if they have the Force because they can’t even do that. When all is lost send in an ARC and they will win 1000:1 odds. The originals have to be kept in storage because the Kaminoans look at them and remember what fear feels like. They can take any weapon and find a way to level a city with it. The only limit an ARC has is numbers.
And Marshall Commanders. Legends. Death. Fox’s armor is red with blood mixed with the sand of the Geonosis and painted with a promise of vengeance. Cody’s armor is the rising sun of his victory, glorious and inevitable. If Neyo knows someones name, he also knows what they’re going to eat tommorow. They say Bacara simply can’t be killed.
Anyways. Just. Any and all the clone troopers pushing every limit.

It is fun to think about Clark being blushing and flappable or Bruce being flustered. But it's also funny as hell to think about NEITHER of them being visibly smitten.
They both exert lots of self control when they're on the job. They flirt under 17 layers of metaphor. They write inside jokes into Justice League paperwork. They share professional touches that wouldn't be erotic to anyone else.
Not a single outside observer notices anything romantic between them. They're the straight laced dads. They have Responsibilities. They've reached an almost-telepathic level of cooperation.
And then they go home and have midlife crises and fuck sloppy and cry on each other.

Do you have any headcanons or thoughts about Falin having a crush on Marcille pre-canon? Especially during her later years at the school/the years she was with Laios.
Just full on "awkward and slightly gnc teenage lesbian has a massive crush on the touchy-feely girly girl straight best friend" tropes everywhere. Even better bc it's the "best friend is also the popular girl while lesbian is the slightly ostracized quiet one" dynamic in school. Falin gets so so so good at not having a heart attack every time Marcille gets in her personal space. But she's so resigned to never saying anything bc why would a girl as blinding as Marcille ever like her back. She also doesn't make an effort to get over it either, she's just content to be trapped in that stable dynamic of silently being in love with Marcille while getting to enjoy CLEARLY being Marcille's favourite person. She gets so used to it that it's almost just background noise most of the time-- it would have to be, unless she wanted to be freaking out 24/7 bc Marcille is so goddamn affectionate.
Her feelings also definitely change throughout the time that they're in school together-- at first it was this "whooaaah pretty older girl" puppy crush that you can clearly see developing in the flashbacks we get (I think she doesn't even like... realize her fixation on Marcille is romantic at all until years after it starts, when she's 12-14 ish and all the other girls around her are talking about crushes). But then they get closer, over the years Marcille starts getting really attached and letting down her guard, and Falin gets to see the ridiculous side of her. She gets to calm her down from her tantrums when experiments don't work out, or help her clean up when something explodes in her face. I feel like the progression of her feelings from "schoolgirl infatuation" to "unrequited love" probably almost exactly corresponds to how slowly Marcille goes from trying to keep Falin at a polite but friendly distance (like she does with everyone else) to her facade completely eroding as she becomes her cheerful and ridiculous self again for the first time since her father died.
That's probably the saddest part: Falin knows that she's clearly Marcille's favourite person on the surface level, but she doesn't quite fully grasp the enormity of what that means to Marcille. She doesn't get that she's the person who made the world colorful again for Marcille, that she is the first person outside of Marcille's family to really and truly make her laugh. She just thinks she's the beloved but dinky little short-lived sidekick, one of many that Marcille has had and will have.
Part of it is that, despite Marcille becoming such a clingy and affectionate best friend, I think her initial demeanour already did its damage. You see Falin being super adventurous and weird at first, bringing Marcille berries and other stuff, only to be rebuffed by Marcille exasperatedly saying she's working or looking kind of put off by it. And by the time you see her a little older, shes already quieter and better at masking -- and I'm not saying that that's entirely Marcille's fault (being the weird girl at an all girls academy for almost the entirety of her teenhood must have been brutal, my god) but she definitely learned that she's a potential nuisance to Marcille if she doesn't tone herself down. She learned that Marcille most likely sees her as a weird little kid following her around bc she has no other friends. And for the most part, she was never given any reason to unlearn any of that.
And that all very very smoothly transitions into Marcille being her "first love that was never meant to be anyway" when she leaves the academy. Chapter closed in her mind: she loved and pined from a distance and that was that. Every now and then she'll see another woman with Marcille's build or her shade of hair and be like ":( I miss her..." But then just kinda move on with her day. Same with when she's going through her own spellbook and finds a note that Marcille left her/correction that she made-- she'll smile fondly and reminisce about how much Marcille doted on her, and then move on.
Sometimes she thinks about contacting Marcille but convinces herself that it's too late (she spent too many months focusing on getting Laios healthy again and didn't mean to go no contact, but ah well). It's only when she has a practical reason to be reaching out that would also benefit Marcille ("Marcille is studying dungeons and we need a trustworthy mage to go with us to the dungeons") that she feels like she's allowed/that it wouldn't just be 100% a nuisance.
I almost think she didn't expect Marcille to reply at all, only to get a telegraph (or some in-universe equivalent of express mail, maybe magical pigeon carrier) that's like. EN ROUTE TO ISLAND. LETTER TO FOLLOW. and she freaks out like AAAA LAIOS SHE SAID YES WE HAVE TO CLEAN UP NOW.
I do think getting a response accidentally sparks a little hope in her, judging by the way she acts in the chp 57 flashback-- she's pouty that Marcille sees her as a kid, gets really worked up about being presentable, and then tries to play it cool when she actually meets Marcille (as if she didn't freak out and force Laios to shave while rambling a mile a minute about Marcille). She's an adult now, really and truly, and she's seen and survived things that her 18 yr old self would have never even imagined-- then all of a sudden, the person she was in love with since she was ten years old appears, and she's so desperate to be seen as mature and competent. She's trying soooo hard to impress Marcille with her newfound combat and dungeoneering experience...
Only to fall right back into their old dynamic. RIP. At least she gets the girl eventually, even if it takes dying twice and being the core catalyst behind an almost-apocalypse.

The news has reached me that there are canon female custodes, and that the reactions have been mmm well, mixed. I don’t play custodes on tabletop but i do love the faction, and i think it’s an interesting and harmless little addition to the setting. Somewhere in the mists of time some custodes put his genhanced transhuman mind to work and asked himself “What if instead of just taking boy babies for the Full Genome Restructuring Into An Exalted Demigod…what if we took all the babies.” Now we have the Golden Roughly Twenty Thousand, double the protection for the Emperor😌

RW&RB MovieAlex vrs BookAlex: A Rant
I'm late to the party on Red, White, and Royal Blue for a dumb reason and now I'm obsessed with it. OMG I WAS SO WRONG.
I love the book. I love the movie. I also love the difference between them that I find myself obsessing over: the lack of June.
I love June. I'm also not mad that they removed her from the movie, because I honestly don't think they had the time to do her justice. The important thing is that when they removed her, they split her personality and scenes between Nora and Alex. And the result is fascinating.
Combining June with Alex gives us a calmer, more emotionally mature, competent version of Alex. He is definitely not the hot mess that BookAlex is. (Don't get me wrong here: BookAlex is my favorite character.) But now it's implied that MovieAlex is better at keeping his temper, handles his shit without being micromanaged, advocates for himself more, and I'm pretty sure the speech he gives is his own. Probably with help, but still. Also not having divorced parents means MovieAlex doesn't have BookAlex's abandonment issues. It's never said that his parents' relationship is perfect, but it's implied that he's had a stable family background. MovieAlex still has flaws and he's not Nora Levels of Competency, but he's definitely a lot more balanced. And this actually changes his relationship with Henry, just a little.
Namely in reference to my two favorite scenes:
1) Storming the Castle.
BookAlex is a ball of rage in this scene, and it's GLORIOUS. Yelling at the windows, aggressively dripping everywhere trying to ruin the rugs, making rude comments about Henry's ancestors. He is defiant. He yells, Henry yells back. It ends in tears, but there's a lot of anger.
MovieAlex by contrast is quieter, more hurt. He hardly yells at all. (I rewatched this scene like 20 times for Repeat to be sure.) He's determined, and he doesn't back down, but you get to see that split second of fear in his eyes that Henry is asking him to leave. There's a lot more emotion and tears in this version. It's ... sweeter isn't the right word. Bittersweet, maybe.
Downside: The lack of transition in the morning from the book. I miss Alex expecting to be dumped, and Henry realizing he doesn't want Phillip's life before deliberately making the choice to be with Alex. Also the comment on Alex's hair, which made me giggle.
2) The Museum Scene
I know a lot of people are disappointed with this scene, and I feel the need to argue about why it's brilliant the way it is.
In the book, they go to the museum because Henry has made his choice, and now he's showing one of his favorite places to Alex. He's the one who brings up the music. He chooses to fulfill his fantasy with Alex there, and he chooses to play a song that embodies the romanticism of their situation, about being in love and not being able to let anyone else know. Your Song.
In the movie, they go to the museum when Henry's still trying to decide if this is something he can have, and he's sharing a part of himself with Alex when he talks about his fantasy. Alex is the one who chooses to fufill it, so of course he chooses a different song. For him, it's a song about how easy it is to love Henry. I Can't Help Falling In Love With You.
I also love that they changed Henry giving the ring to Alex to Alex giving Henry his key in return. I love the symbolism of Alex keeping Henry's ring safe for him, of their two homes side by side. But I also love the idea of exchanging parts of themselves. I love that they have those pieces of each other when they're separated and the emails are exposed.
The book tells the story better overall because it has the time to, and the bickering and friendship between the boys is everything. The movie makes me melt over the flirting and affection between them. I can't pick one over the other because both versions of this story are wonderful.
But emotionally mature MovieAlex and how soft he is with Henry, making sure Henry's taken care of? I am WEAK for that.

What hurts most about everyone in Fionna and Cake saying how Ice King was so much better and cooler and more awesome than Simon is that nobody liked Ice King when he was Ice King.
Ice King was seen as annoying and unpleasant at best, and a genuine danger and creep at worst. And for the few that knew about Simon, he was just a shell of his former self that could be really upsetting to be around at times because of how awful he had become and how tragic the whole situation was.
Now everyone who wasn't forced to deal with the IK's bs directly and only know an idealized version of him are telling Simon that he should go back to being insane and unhinged because to them, how he is now is "too boring and depressing". And yeah, I guess it's not really their faults because they don't realize how their words affect Simon, but because of them he is teetering on the edge of what is essentially another dangerous, prolonged manic episode.
I bet the little girl that kept harassing Simon would hate Ice King if she had to deal with him flying into the human town, stealing women and freezing people on a whim and destroying stuff, regularly.
This is not to say I hate Ice King btw, he's actually one of my favorite characters in the show even when separated from Simon, but in-universe this is all true. Almost all the characters that started being nicer to him did so only because they were told about Simon or because they were fans of his Fionna and Cake stories. I mean hell, most of his fellow wizards didn't even like him, only some of the low-level guys were his buddies. Lady Island is an outlier because IK managed to keep it in his pants that whole episode, miraculously.

About the accents: if someone has a very "proper" Italian they are either foreigners or politicians/dignitaries/etc. So that fits perfectly for Machete, but I think it would be so funny if he sometimes slipped up and used a Nepalese word bc he forgot one in "proper" Italian lol
(Funny to me cause Naples has its own language in addition to accent, and most people don't actually know those words)

i like to imagine whenever MC is too stressed with the brothers, they call Barbatos. He and MC spend a few hours togehter and boom MC is calm again, he has such a calming aura it's impossible not to
are the brothers jealous? of course but it's either let Barbatos spend time with MC or get murdered by MC so they can't really do anything about it
This is absolutely one of my favorite things about Barbatos. Because I like to imagine the same thing. There's just something about his demeanor that is so calm, especially compared to the chaos of the brothers.
I love the bros, truly I do, but those guys are always so boisterous. And I think it makes sense that MC would need to take a break from that sometimes. It probably also depends on how well your specific MC deals with that level of nonsense. I think an extroverted MC would probably do okay, but an introverted one might struggle more.
And I see Barbatos also just knowing when MC needs a break. He can tell when MC's stress levels have gotten too high and invites them over for tea. He knows all their favorite tea blends and their favorite pastries. He asks them about their troubles and listens quietly as they tell him everything.
MC is a demon therapist, but who is MC's therapist?? Barbatos, that's who.
There's just something about the way he seems to understand and know things without being told. He's observant to the point where he understands everyone around him, including MC.
When the brothers see how relaxed MC is when they get back, they really can't complain.
Ah, I love Barbatos so much.
