Ahhh!! Ask away! Some of them are full blown insanity though...

So, @samabigailalan actually beat you to this one, but I've got a few snippets of it so there's more I can offer.

Essentially, James rocks up during the summer to break up the monotony of the honeymoon he thinks they're hating. In this fic he's sort of like their doting big brother and he and Helen take the chance to catch up. Below is a snippet of their chatter (they've been talking about John and how he faired after his ridiculous declaration of love back in Paris).

“It’s hardly your fault that he misunderstood who was the chaperone at our lunches,” James said. His tone was airy but the way he looked out the window made it clear that he was trying to tell her something rather important.

Then her eyes widened.

“Oh, James.”

He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, clearing his throat and Helen searched for something to say that would ease the pain she could see on his face. James had been almost like a brother to her since she’d started her efforts to be accepted at Oxford, and while she knew full well her father had held a small hope that they’d fall passionately in love with one another and solve the dilemma of what to do with a confirmed spinster, it was incredibly difficult to see him as anything other than her dearest friend.

She could see the hurt on his features now, poorly hidden behind his mask of nonchalance, but it was clear how much this admission had cost him.

“Did you tell John as much?” she asked softly, leaning forward so that she could place a hand over his. Giving her a pained look, James met her eye for a fraction of a second before looking away once more.

“Yes,” he said with a sigh. There was a story to this that she could tell he was unwilling to share just yet, so she simply gave his hand a soft squeeze.

“Anyone would be lucky to be loved by you,” she whispered softly, the words hanging in the air for a long moment before James shifted his hand beneath hers to thread their fingers together. She wanted more than anything to reassure him that regardless of whether John felt the same way, hope was not lost.

“As I said, he will recover.”

Helen bit back a small smile at that. Perhaps all was not so dire after all.

3) Least favorite canon thing about James Watson?

The fact that he died at the end of season 1? I have headcanons to fix it, and I know that the actor was just a guest star, but I still wish. I think he was only in 5 episodes but he has such importance in my mind, he’s more of a main character than actual main characters to me. That answer feels a bit of a cop-out. I suppose… he was judgy for a minute with Helen in Tempus. I wasn’t fond of that but it didn’t last and a century of time travel would be a lot for anyone to just roll with.

16) What's your least favorite ship for James?

I will check the AO3 tags! Wow ok… yikes. There’s a real variety which I was not expecting. I have been in fandom long enough I should not be surprised and yet I am. There’s James/Will which no, just no. I think the one I have to go with is disliking the most is James/Ashley which… I do try and be ship and let ship but Ashley is Helen’s daughter! and so to me that is like James’ daughter and so I am shuddering. Absolutely not.

8) What's something the fandom does when it comes to John that you despise?

lol well you kinda already know this as I used it as my “unpopular opinion”. The abusive wife-beating misogynistic bastard. That answer feels a bit redundant as you knew that. It’s the only one I really have though.

John is mostly just reduced to the Ripper. I have done that a lot too because it is such a pivotal storyline. It changed everything and then it lasted for well over a century. It is a fascinating arc. So I definitely don’t despise that but he is a character apart from that too. There was a before, and there could be an after.

24) What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

Oh! I think I talked about this once before - Rumplestiltskin.

The whole “possessed by an evil demon” which is like an insidious inner voice that twists everything. I’m pretty sure I made a gifset about this once. Oh yeah here it is. The transition is a bit quick. I should fix that but hopefully the sentiment can be seen.
