Rebels really gave us different and believable ways of grieving for each character. Hera hanging out with her oldest friend Chopper, finding some way to blame herself for Kanan's death and then honouring his memory in her family's Kalikori. Ezra wandering off alone, lost and directionless without his master, but slowly coming to accept Kanan's loss and letting him go, to learn from his sacrifice. Sabine and Zeb's immediate instinct to go blow shit up and make the Empire pay, but staying each other's hand when things get too violent, because Kanan taught them that how they fight is just as important as why. And all of them are able to come together after they've processed his death in their own ways, to hold each other in their grief and continue working as a team in his memory.

okay so i was browsing on reddit and came across THIS

i haven't seen it on here yet and it was posted a couple years ago so I thought i might share. amazingly smooth transition from ezra to kanan, kudos to the creator CaptainAshtro. I love rebels so much because there is so much more emotion, more silly moments between characters that I feel other sw shows lack... which makes it hurt even more.

so I’ve been rewatching the jedi night arc in rebels (sobbing) and it’s reminding me how the tension between kanan and hera never made sense to me the way it was written in this arc. It just seems like if the writers wanted to create tension between kanera to increase the angst of jedi night, they could have just gone with “hera and kanan’s long-term loving relationship is strained by differing priorities during war” instead of also trying to convince the audience that somehow those two had never defined their relationship and hera had never told kanan she loved him before. It would have been way more realistic imo!! bc it’s obvious to anyone who was paying attention to the previous seasons that kanan and hera had been in a relationship for the entire show, and had been telling each other how they felt for longer than that. idk it just irks me lol. I hate when it feels like the writers think we’re stupid

I made it to the “Jedi Night” episode in my Rebels workout re-watch, and wow… it doesn’t get any easier.

In fact, I think I cried harder this time (the fourth full Rebels re-watch) than I ever have before.

This time, it really dawned on me that the Loth wolves were the ones that guided Kanan to do what he did. In the episode prior, Kanan jumps on his speeder to try and save Hera without a plan. He’s working from a place of emotion, and the Loth wolf causes him to wreck his speeder. Kanan is panicking, but takes a deep breath to communicate with the wolf. Through this communication, Kanan realizes what he must do. He has Ezra formulate a plan to free Hera, and he glides into the fuel depot. We know what happens from there.

Kanan didn’t just save Hera, Ezra, and Sabine. He didn’t just, in a round about way, save Ahsoka. He saved Lothal. Ultimately, he saved the Rebellion by taking out that tie factory’s fuel system. His sacrifice played a big part in saving the galaxy. It had such an incredible amount of gravity behind it.

Ugh. It was such a Jedi move. He was so wise, so selfless, so compassionate.
