you sighed out as you walked over to jeongyeon’s side and wrapped her in a hug. you were glad that she was comfortable to the point where she could tell you things like this. it showed that she trusted you and that’s all that mattered. you pulled away form the hug and slowly put your hand out, brushing her hair behind her ear.

jeongyeon’s breath hitched at the contact of your hand to her ear, eyes on your hand as you stopped yourself for a second.

“i don’t have to do this, but if you want me to, i can take these out. i know the broken one is making you uncomfortable here so i just want to help. you know that i would never hurt you.

you stared into jeongyeon eyes, trying to convey that she could trust you with something that’s important than this. she pondered for a few seconds in silence before slowly nodding her head, closing her eyes as she gently grabbed your hands, guiding them to her ears. your hands were shaking for a few seconds as you tried to ignore the pounding of your heart within you.

without messing anything up, you took the hearing aids out with ease, letting a soft sound of your breath out your mouth as you set them on the counter. jeongyeon opened her eyes again, now unable to hear as she gave you a small smile, tears welling up again from the corners of her eyes. she let out a long breath, one that sounded like she’s been holding back for years and kissed your cheek.

she breaks the hug after a few seconds before signing ‘i love you’ as you pull her closer to you once again, deepening the love and trust you had for each other even more now.

“it’s getting late, no?” you signed to jeongyeon as she came back to you after running for twenty minutes with coby.

“i know but five more minutes please?”

you smiled at her plea as you checked the time to see that it was almost 9:30. the beach would close at ten so you found it to be okay to stay just a little longer as you slid your phone back in your pocket, grabbing the hearing aids set next to you, putting them in your hand and offering it to jeongyeon.

“do you want these back? you don’t have to though i’ll just keep holding onto them.”

jeongyeon thinks for a second before shaking her head at your offer, curling your hand up in a loose fist, protecting her hearing aids until she decides when to put them back on. you didn’t understand how she truly felt, but you did know why she wanted to not have them on from time to time. it was nice to not hear and just be present in the moment.

not long after, jeongyeon brings coby back, simply nodding as that was her cue to start cleaning your little spot on the beach up to head back home. before you started cleaning up however, you handed the hearing aids back to jeongyeon as she put them back on. you didn’t want jeongyeon to do the work so she just kept coby occupied while she watched you put everything back seamlessly before heading back to the car.

coby hopped back into the backseat of the car as you catch jeongyeon taking a picture of the moon before looking through her photos of the sunset she also took earlier.

“that is a nice sunset picture.” you say over her shoulder as she turns around, wrapping her arms around your neck, inching her face closer to yours.

“thank you for coming with me y/n.” jeongyeon says to you as you tried not to let the giddiness come out on your face.

you leaned in for a kiss. the kind that you and her won’t stop sharing for many years to come. it carried so much intimacy almost like the end of a coming of age movie, it wasn’t corny but in that moment with her lips on yours, it just felt right.

another few gentle kisses were shared as you pull your head back from hers, eyes drinking in every single little detail that was on her face before signing with just one hand,

“i love you.”

A sneeze made you flinch before a hoarse voice answered.

"Y/n. I'm going to have to take a raincheck. I'm sorry.

"Don't apologise, mi amor. I'll be there.

"Baby - "

"I know, but I want to look after you. See you soon, I love you."

"I love you too."

Jeongyeon had fallen asleep by the time you arrived, so you decided to make soup with the groceries you brought.

The food was ready when you felt arms snake around your waist. She looked exhausted and feverish.

"Do I look that bad?" She teased when you frowned in concern.

"No. You're still the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. How are you feeling?"

"Sick." You immediately gave her water when she started coughing.

"Come on, I made you something."

It took hardly any coaxing for her to eat and take medicine.

But she protested when you tried to snuggle close to her.

"Why not?"

"Because you'll get sick too!"

"I don't care."

You knew you won when she sighed.

She continued to grumble as she laid her head on your chest.

"You're so stubborn."

"No, I'm not. I'm just a simple human who is deeply in love with my girlfriend and wants cuddles with her."

You could feel her smile more than you could see it.

"Cheesy woman."

"Only for you."

Jeongyeon opened her eyes sometime later after you both fell asleep. The couch was only comfortable for so long, and she felt it in her shoulders. She could only imagine how sore your body was going to be.

Facing you properly, she took the time to just look at you. She loved seeing you so peaceful. Her eyes wandered to your arms. More specifically, the scars scattered across them.

"I honestly don't know what I'd do if you weren't here." She whispered, as her fingers moved up your arm.

Jeongyeon borrowed your phone to check the time, when a new text showed up.

It's not like you to pass up on seeing Phantom of the Opera. You know the theatre only puts it on once a year. But alright, I'll give your tickets to someone else.

Her stomach dropped. She had forgotten the show was today.

You woke up abruptly, when you felt her scramble off you and ran to the bathroom. You went after her when you heard a familiar sound.

She knelt before the toilet as you held her hair back.

Thankfully, you had water and her favourite gum at the ready.

"Why didn't you remind me?" She asked, once she sat back.

"What?"

"The show. You talked about it nonstop lately."

"You know I'd choose you over anything like that."

"I do, but it doesn't mean I don't feel guilty when you prioritise me over almost all else."

"Honey." You brushed her hair out of her eyes. "I put you first because I love you."

"But-"

"Shhh, it's okay. Besides in sickness and in health, right?" She giggled.

"Only if you're married."

"Well, the principle should still apply to unmarried couples, especially if the love and trust runs deep and is mutual. Although being married to you doesn't sound too bad."

The last part was said with so much conviction, for a moment, Jeongyeon thought it was a proposal of sorts. You managed to keep a straight face for five seconds before laughing.

"Yah y/n! Don't tease me like that."

She wouldn’t admit it, but the thought of marrying you someday gave her butterflies.

Nearly a week later, Jeongyeon was back to good health. She knocked, and the door opened to reveal you wrapped in a blanket, and behind you, tissues were lying around. She opened her mouth, but you beat her to it.

"I know, I know, no need to say it."

The crash was the first thing Jeongyeon heard, but then your cries quickly followed. Without a second thought, she rushed to find you on the floor with a few boxes thrown about.

"What happened? Are you alright?" She asked, kneeling down. She looked over you to find any obvious injuries. Thankfully, she hadn't spotted any.

That's when she noticed what had happened. The boxes you had been carrying contained decorations, and now they were all thrown about, and she noticed a few were broken. Thankfully, she had slippers on, which prevented her from stepping on the glass.

"I need to get you moved. Do you have slippers on?" She asked. All you could do was nod. Jeongyeon stood up, and doing so, she reached for you to help you onto your feet.

Once standing, she got a good look at you and, thankfully, no injuries. She helped you to the living room, where she motioned for you to sit before she went to work cleaning up the glass and the rest of the boxes.

It didn't take her long, and when she had finished, she went back to the living room. You sat on the couch, and she could tell you were beating yourself up about what had happened.

"I'm sorry." You finally spoke. Before Jeongyeon could respond, you spoke again. "I ended up ruining things, and I can't believe it." A choked sob came out, and you hung your head down.

It broke her heart to see you like this. She knew that it was an accident, and she wasn't upset with you. Sitting down next to you, she pulled you into a hug and rubbed your back gently.

"I'm not mad at you." She spoke once you calmed down a bit. "I'm glad that you're okay. I got scared because I thought you had gotten injured. Decorations can be replaced, but you can't." She explained.

This made you pull back from her, and she could tell you were about to argue, but she stopped you.

"Besides, this means we can start a new tradition." She said, but this just made you look at her confused. "We can make new decorations, and each new one will have a story of its own." She said.

She could tell that this was convincing you. Sure, it wouldn't completely take your mind off of what happened, but it was a step in the right direction

Everyone knew that it was always best to keep your mood up. No one wanted to see what it was like when your over excited and joyful demeanor was pushed to the limit. There had been instances where your members witnessed you shifting from your rambunctious self to a silently ticking time bomb.

Though they understood, they didn’t want you getting in trouble because of how your protectiveness would throw all caution out the window even when there were cameras pointed right at you.

The first time they noticed this was during your time in Weekly Idol.

They always knew you weren’t too fond of the place. You weren’t a very big fan of coming to see the two hosts. Your members were well aware of this, but for the sake of promoting, you had to.

You hated how rude Doni and Coni were. You understood being comedic, but some of their jokes were borderline insulting and you wished you didn’t have to deal with them. For the sake of your members, you ignore the pair the best you can and simply do your best with the games, joking around like you typically did and playing with the cameras whenever one was pointed at you.

As soon as the hammer was introduced, however, you could feel your energy gradually depleting as you eyed it, even when the pair assured you all that it was nothing more than a simple toy hammer. Coni had even gone and squeezed the thing to show you that it was harmless. Mina could see from the way you eyed them, you weren’t buying it.

“Since Jihyo is injured, how about you come here and point out who makes the mistakes?” The leader was surprised, though she reluctantly obeyed while eyeing the toy. She didn’t want to have anyone be at the receiving end of the hammer.

As soon as the music started, you could already tell a handful of your members were nervous, not wanting to be hit by the hammer. Though unfortunately, you manage to spot Tzuyu out of formation from the corner of your eye and you mentally cursed due to being far away. But since no one was stopping the music and you all continued to dance, you were somewhat relieved that they were letting it slip.

That relief, however, is wiped away when the two hosts call out Chaeyoung’s name, cutting the music as they laughed at the two maknaes. “Did you make a mistake?” Doni interrogated the maknae and the taller of the pair looked timid as she bowed her head before meekly denying the accusation.

To relieve the tension, Momo giggled and pointed out that Tzuyu’s mistake was very obvious. “Tell us, who made the mistake?” Chaeyoung and Tzuyu exchanged glances and you weren’t about to sit this one out and let the pair have their way. “You’d really go so far as hitting minors on the head?” Sana was quick to wrap her arms around you, holding you back when she and Dahyun saw the anger in your eyes as you eyed the two men.

Doni seemed to catch on as he glanced nervously at the camera, obviously surprised by your change in demeanor. “That’s a good question. I don’t think I’ve ever hit someone as young as a high schooler before.” He states and out of the corner of your eye, you see Dahyun suddenly walk in between him and Tzuyu.

“Since I’m the eldest in the School Meal Club-”

All eyes are suddenly on her and Jeongyeon had to shake her head when Doni handed her the hammer. “Ah, so you’re volunteering to give the punishment?” Somehow, that further angered you, your eyes narrowing on the man while Dahyun looked a little lost before she was pushed forward, taking Chaeyoung’s place at the center. “Explain why you cut Doni off.” The man ordered and Dahyun looked around, laughing nervously before the man decided to take the reins once more.

“So you’ll be volunteering for the punishment because you’re the eldest in the School Meal Club?” He doesn’t bother waiting for an answer and you could all tell that he was set on having her be the target. “Close your eyes.” He ordered and Dahyun looked dumbfounded before she did as told. “It’s okay.” Coni assures with a laugh, nonchalantly waving his hand and Nayeon doesn’t feel too sure as she watches the man give everyone an example of how we would be hitting Dahyun.

The loud bang of the hammer against the floor has everyone flinching and your eyes widened as you forced yourself out of Sana’s hold. “You can’t-” But Jeongyeon was already grabbing your hand and shushing you after making sure that the camera wasn’t directed at the two of you.

“Unnie, this is absurd!” You hiss but she gives you a meaningful look while shaking her head after she got over the initial shock of hearing you sound so angry. She rests her chin on your shoulder so none of the cameras can pick up on the conversation and since Momo looked like she had noticed and decided to cover the two of you while she gave your bicep a small squeeze. “I know, but I doubt that they’re really going to hurt her.” She says while eyeing the toy hammer.

Truthfully, she doesn’t trust her own words either because of how menacing the two hosts look.

“Since you’re the maknaes, we’ll be generous and let it slide.” Doni announces, much to everyone’s relief. You and Jeongyeon both let the tension fade from your bodies and she gives you a smile before slowly releasing you from her hold.

“See? What did I tell you?” But that doesn’t remove the scowl from your face, especially not when Doni gestures to the two oldest members of the group. “We’ll be keeping an eye out on you two though.”

Jeongyeon looked surprised while Nayeon bit her tongue, forcing a smile as she laughed. “I won’t make a mistake.” She claims and you had to suck in a deep breath before looking at the three. “Are you okay?” You quietly ask and Chaeyoung grins, albeit a little nervous. “We’re fine.” She promises before your eyes land on Dahyun.

She smiles assuringly at you but you can see she's a little shaken, before the music reaches your ears and you’re all forced to continue with the game.

You’re a little relieved that Nayeon was fairing well throughout the dance, various praise from Jihyo assured you that she would be alright, but the annoying sound of Doni and Coni shouting Jeongyeon’s name caused everyone to stop and the said woman froze in her spot before crouching down.

“I didn’t!” She tries to play it off, but Doni was adamant that she be punished. “You did the move twice before you went over.” He laughed teasingly and the short haired woman knew that there was no making her way out of this. Mina wasn’t looking too happy beside you as the two hosts rejoiced. “Are you a minor?” Coni inquired and Jeongyeon shook her head. “Is your sister an actress?”

The randomness of the question made Jihyo snort, but it was common knowledge that Jeongyeon’s sister was indeed an actress. “If your sister is an actress then you must be punished.” Doni regretfully tells her, earning a few odd looks while the woman in the middle looked helpless.

When Jeongyeon went into position, you felt your anger flare up as you glared at Doni before he asked. “If anyone volunteers for you, what will you give them?” Doni asks her and she looks around, trying to think before speaking. “My number.”

Her answer earns itself a bout of laughter and you nearly crack a smile, only for it to be pushed back when Doni goes wide eyed and pretends to volunteer instead. So you take that opportunity to stand next to your older member and take the hammer instead.

“I’ll do it.”

However, your intentions were turned against you as Coni stepped forward, looking pleased as he addressed you and Doni took the hammer back into his possession. “Y/n is volunteering! Don’t you already have Jeongyeon’s number?” He jokes and your members all look at you in surprise while Jeongyeon looks baffled by the sudden turn of events before trying to push you back.

Seeing that this wouldn’t end without one of you taking the hit, you suck in a breath while gritting your teeth. “I accidentally deleted it and forgot to ask.” You immediately lie and the two hosts laugh, pleased that you were going along with their so-called skit.

“It looks like you have a volunteer.”

Sending the older girl a pleading look, you quietly tell her to step back before facing the host. “Oh, she’s ready!” He points at your balled up fists, bracing for the impact that was sure to come, though you make a quick break to face the camera. "Please send dogs to bite them." Though you made it sound like a joke, the look in your eyes told Mina enough to know that you were itching to have at least one of the hosts bitten.

“This is for Signal’s hit.” Doni says promisingly to everyone after patting your hair and you shut your eyes tight as you go back into position while the rest of your members watch from the side.

You’re not sure who speaks, because as soon as they try to cheer you on, a harsh smack lands on the top of your head and you’re pretty sure you were seeing stars for a moment, not even realizing that you were off your feet in a matter of seconds and breathing out. Your hands immediately go to your head while someone pulls you into their arms.

“Are you okay?” You hear Mina quietly ask, only for her question to be taken over by Doni’s louder voice. “Wow, you did a great job.” You grit your teeth, feeling a little light headed, but you managed to get up, squeezing Mina’s hand while Jihyo and Jeongyeon looked you over, worry swimming in their expressions while the rest of the group joined in the laughter just to keep the show light.

If you were a little less dazed, you would have been seething with how they would willingly hit your members like this.

Momo kept looking at you to see if you were okay before you shook yourself up, promising everyone that you were fine before shooting the host a look. “I’m so glad I took that hit.” You grumble and the hosts laugh a little before making a joke out of your reaction, no doubt playing it off as you being out of it after the hit to your head.

As the game went on, Sana had to hold you back, quietly whispering to you how you should keep quiet even when Momo was picked to be punished for making a mistake. They didn’t want to risk you getting injured. You were just glad that the camera director had offered to volunteer in her place rather than to let her take the hit.

When you all got back to the dorm that day, Momo was quick to grab an ice pack for your head whilst Jihyo sat you down with a bewildered look on her face as Nayeon ranted. “What the hell was that?”

They were just as surprised when you quickly and firmly defended your actions, stating that you would not let anyone touch a strand of hair on them as long as you were around. It was comforting yet concerning at the moment because you had gotten hurt and Jeongyeon felt a little guilty knowing that you had taken a hit for her.

The next time the girls got to see your mood changing was unfortunately during a fan meet.

It was all going so well. Everyone was having a fun time and you were all just happy to be around your members and your fans. However, as Chaeyoung went to speak and deliver her own personal message as thanks, a handful of people were yelling over her, drowning her words out as they cheered for some of your other members’ names.

Jihyo tried to shush them and Momo encouraged the younger girl to go on, but it wasn’t working until you slowly lowered your prop on the table to grab your own microphone. “Yah, be quiet and listen or I’ll personally escort you out.”

That seemed to do the trick as people hushed down. Dahyun was quick to laugh, lightly hitting your arm, and Nayeon was quick to join her with a teasing smile. Though the glare you set on the group somewhere near the middle was daring them to try to speak and everyone could tell that your threat was no empty promise.

Momo took your hand under the table and squeezed it, pulling you back into a more easy mood and comforting you the best she could without visibly showing that you were upset. Chaeyoung does shoot you a grateful look before she continues with her message.

“You can’t just go around threatening our fans like that.” Sana says, exasperated and you only scoff from beside Tzuyu, crossing your arms as the maknae wrapped her arms around your waist. “They were being rude.” You grumble, earning a small squeeze as the taller woman rested her cheek on your shoulder.

“Still, you’re going to get in trouble one day.” Momo says meaningfully and you only frown while shaking your head, gently untangling yourself from the maknae whilst Jeongyeon looks at you pleadingly. “Y/n, we’re not mad at you but you have to remember that you have an image.”

“What, I’m supposed to let people be rude to everyone because I have to keep an image?” You sneer and Nayeon shoots up. “It’s not like that! We’re just looking out for you, too.” She reasons, but you can see the disappointment in their faces and you’ve decided that you’re not up for this conversation.

“Y/n-”

“I’m tired. Goodnight.” You don’t wait for a reply before exiting the room and the girls can’t help but exchange silent glances at each other before Mina stands up to run after you, refusing to let you end the day being upset with them.

“I get it.” Dahyun says quietly when she sinks in her seat. “Unnie tries, but someone has to draw the line at some point.” None of them are as bold as you when it comes to speaking up. That’s why they were afraid of what the consequences may bring you.

Your outspoken and protective personality was quick to gain you both respect and backlash, a handful of people stating you should be more respectful especially when you were an idol, but more were quick to defend you, stating that you were brave to even put your image aside for your members’ well-being.

JYP even had to give you a notice with regards to your outburst during the fan meet and told you to be more mindful of your actions.

The older members of the group take the time to think about your actions, as well as their own opinions of the matter. In Jeongyeon’s case, she only stares at your sleeping figure from her side of the room until she eventually falls asleep.

The next morning, you’re the first to apologize for snapping at the girls, but they were quick to assure you that they understood after a long night of thinking. Their own apologies end up with you reverting back to your original self, promising to be more careful while they promise the same.

Coming home from tour was understandably exhausting. Everyone was tired and a little jetlagged, but as Momo looked at you basically waving at every single person that you saw smiling your way made her question just where the hell that energy of yours came from.

Every one of the members had their own levels of energy, sometimes Nayeon would match yours even, but they never figured out the mystery of where yours always came from and how you never seemed to run out of it.

Currently, you were glued to the leader’s side, nuzzling into her while you tried to contain yourself, smiling to the cameras that continued to go off before a ruckus occurred nearby.

Sana turned her head and smiled a little when she saw some of her fansites, but that smile was soon wiped away when a few other fans started pushing each other. The pushing gradually escalated into yelling and soon enough, security had to take control of the situation.

But that only proved to be a problem when some people used that opportunity to get closer. And much to Mina’s displeasure, someone had started shoving their camera into her face as she gripped at Chaeyoung’s arm.

Seeing this caused you to turn around, eyes widening and Jihyo all but lost you when you started marching over, quickly grabbing the owner’s arm and then gently but firmly pushing their camera away.

“Don’t do that!” You reprimanded, giving Mina the space she needed and she let out a breath before her free hand clutched at the back of your jacket when you started scolding the fan. “I know you want to take pictures but you can do that without making anyone uncomfortable. How would you feel if someone had their camera in your face?” You went on, brows knitting together before a hand gently ushered you back and one of your managers began to separate the fans from the group, quickly taking over the situation as you whirled around to check on the group’s resident penguin.

“I’m okay.” She says with a gentle smile, hugging you to show her thanks and you glance around before nodding your head, lingering behind the group to see if anything else might happen.

Dahyun notices you from the corner of her eye so she immediately takes your hand and laces her fingers with yours, hoping to keep you from intimidating more of your fans as you keep narrowing your eyes at anyone who so much as stepped closer than necessary.

Even when some people twist the story later on, many were quick to explain the full context of what happened and JYP, thanks to your members, has announced that he would be filing a lawsuit in the event more harassments would occur. Your accusers were quick to back off after that, much to your members’ delight.

“It’s honestly cute, if you think about it.” Jeongyeon commented one day when she and Momo were on live, the subject of your surprising personality being brought up. “Y/n is like this big puppy, you wouldn’t expect it.” She chuckled and the Japanese woman was quick to agree. “That’s right. It was a little off putting at first because I’m so used to her bouncing off the walls.” She says with a smile.

“Y/n is kind of like a guard dog sometimes.” Momo muses and Jeongyeon is quick to agree. “She’ll play around and be a big goofball, but be sure not to anger her, Onces. Our puppy knows how to bite.” Jeongyeon says playfully, but everyone knows at this point that it was true.

You may be playful and full of laughter, but everyone knew angering you had consequences.

Unlike your members, you wouldn’t hesitate to call anyone out on their bullshit.

And thanks to Momo’s little nickname, being Twice’s guard dog ended up sticking in the fandom, and you honestly don’t mind if it helped remind people that you weren’t about to let your members be neglected or disrespected by anyone.
