 uncle/aunt headcanons abt atun-shei films characters! 

 dick jett is the uncle who shows up once in 5 years to a birthday party for his niece that he is very distantly related to but nobody actually knows who he's related to at all, he just shows up whenever and nobody even knows his phone number who is he and how does he know where we live

 he always brings gifts in what he thinks you'll like and even if he's mildly confused by your interests, he does care about them. he feels shitty about being absent for most of his family's life. 

 alexis buttal is the aunt with the really cool job that gets on really well with your parents and joins your family for dinner :) she probably is away for a few months at a time and is a somewhat busy person but always responds to your text messages and is really easy to talk to both irl and online. would tell you about why she got you this specific gift, about the cases she's on and the life she gives (usually dials down the more gruesome/upsetting details), and remembers small details abt you :) 

 uncle billy talks mostly with the adults. he's kinda awkward and doesn't really know what to do with kids, but you two get along pretty nicely. you don't really know a lot about him but if you ask, he'll tell you. he makes a lot of history references and sometimes you don't get it so he'll explain it to you but that leads onto another topic and by the time he's done, its been two hours and you genuinely can't remember what you two were talking about before. hes the uncle that you wanna impress because just you think he's cool :) will take you out for icecream. 

 johnny just appears. you don't really remember him ever showing up, he's just there suddenly. you were seven when you opened the door and you saw that he was the one knocking and he didn't just spawn in your house like an npc. you still haven't forgotten that experience. he probably stays outside on the porch or backyard during family gatherings. he has a tendency to overshare when you ask him about his life and also tends to bring up the civil war when its not called for… like at all but he does mean well generally. awkwardly social type of guy, he just stands alone sometimes and grins manically. he also babysits the younger members of your family sometimes :) 

 the witch-finder general doesn't talk to anybody at the family gatherings and just kinda stares at people. its not cause he's unfriendly or anything, he just doesn't know what to do. it's 50/50 on whether or not he comes to anything related to christmas. nobody really knows his actual name but they do know he's genuinely related to them so they just kinda let him stay. he's fairly nice/poilte, although is sorta out of place. as a child, you thought he had cool vibes, even if you didn't know him at all. he picked up on that, noticing you, and then went on to establish that he's your uncle (even if he's not technically, its just an easier title for a kid). he reads to you sometimes and thinks its very important to teach you the morals he's thinks you're not being taught. he judges the way your parents parent you but at the same time, does not tolerate any kind of rebellion/disobedience. he 100% has favorites.

I hate my mind sm rn. I'm listening to music while working on one of my writing Wips, and one of the songs reminded me of a book I read back in 5th grade. The book was Johnny Tremain, and let me tell you, I LOVED that Book. It was such a good book, I however lost my copy from 5th grade so I recently got a new one. But The ending was sad as hell. Then I remembered all the books I've read for school from 5th—Present. So let's see, We read Huckleberry Finn, Johnny Tremain, The Witch of Blackbird pond, the Reb and the Redcoats and finally, The Mystery of the silver coins (I always mess up that title) those were all great books! In 6th grade we read: Black Ships before Troy, I actually can't remember the others :(

Anyways, in 7th grade, We were pretty much allowed to read whatever but it had to be in one of the following categories(?): Historical Fiction, Classic, Christian Fiction, Biography, and Christian biography. Which I hated because I hated reading Christian books. So I did Journey to the Center of the Earth, and normally we'd do four book reports a year, but Idk what happened there. We also read Rifles Before Watie (which ai loved)

Finally 8th grade: we read -The Diary of Anne Frank- for history class, A Night To Remember, then they let us pick the last two: so I did, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Robinson crusoe

However, when I was a kid, living on the outskirts of Liverpool, I didn't know [National Service would be abolished] so I had to be prepared. In my mind I would imagine myself with a bayonet, because that was the symbol of it all, and imagine myself running someone through, and I thought, Jesus Christ! That is not going to be easy. Fuck me! What's the look on his face going to be like if I do it? Having quite a vivid imagination, I'd follow all that shit through. So when I went out into the woods, I thought I'd better get some practice in. So I thought, Frogs. That'll do, because all my mates killed frogs anyway. They used to blow them up sticking a straw up their ass. That was the way to kill a frog. I didn't fancy that, I thought that was a little bit pervy. I thought a straightforward killing with a bash, hold the legs and just smash 'em on me head. You feel that you've got to learn to kill, like a farmer's boy who grows up and learns to kill that goose and wring that chicken's neck. But I didn't have the farm, so there was no other way to learn.

I felt very conscious that I was going to shit out completely when this National Service arrived. I was going to be one of the guys who said, 'Sorry, sir, I'm a pacifist, I can't kill,’ and I'd have to go to jail. I was in a dilemma in my mind. So I used to kill these frogs. There was a spot in the woods where there was some barbed wire and I used to stick 'em on the barbs of the wire. I had quite a little gallery. I used to call 'em Johnny Rebs, these were the rebels from the Civil War. I had six or seven of them, and I remember taking my brother down there once. He was completely horrified.

Paul McCartney, Many Years From Now

Yes, it's the infamous frog killer Paul McCartney story but that's a bit more context here I think is essential. Other versions include the National Service anxiety but not,I think, this pronounced. He got into his head that he was going to get in trouble, possibly with the law, if he couldn't 'be a man' about it.

Whiskey Review Time --- Rebel and Rebel 100 Straight Bourbon

Recently I've noticed this bourbon hitting the shelves and I've finally decided to give it a try. Fortunately, they have those little 50ml bottles that sell for $1.99 so if this turns out to be a bad whiskey I'm not out much. However, this is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon, I've never ever had a bad Kentucky Straight Bourbon before, not even at the price of $17.99 which is what it sells for at the local liquor store. So I prepared myself for some nice budget bourbon sipping.

Apparently this stuff has been around for a while, with the brand being founded in the 1950's but was only available in part of the Southern US. However in the past ten years it's been crossing the Mason-Dixon line until now it's in just about every liquor store in America. Interestingly it's a wheated bourbon. Most bourbons have a mash bill of mostly corn, with the rest being rye and malted barley. This has a mashbill of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. It is a blend of bourbons from the Lux Row distillery and bourbons from other distilleries. Supposedly one of the other distilleries is Heaven Hill but I don't think this has even been confirmed. The brand is owned by Luxco which is also the owner of Everclear. It is bottled at 80 proof (40%). They also have Rebel 100, which is 100 proof (50%). There is no age statement, but to legally call it "straight bourbon" it must be aged for at lest 4 years in new oak barrels. You might see bottles of this called "Rebel Yell", sometimes even on the same shelf. Recently they've decided to shorten the name to just "Rebel", and they have been slowly fazing out the older "Rebel Yell" labels.

First I shall try the regular 80 proof rebel. On the nose I get classic bourbon smells, sweet honey, caramel, oak, vanilla, and cherry. It can be a little faint, sometime it seems like I need to stick my nose right in the glencairn to get a good whiff of it. The aroma is nice and pleasant and I really like it. On tasting I get a bit of the corn sweetness common with bourbon with hints of vanilla. The flavor is extremely light, in fact I would say way too light. With bourbons I expect bold rich flavors. This does not have bold rich flavors, in fact it tastes like a bourbon that has been watered down. The finish is very bitter and with lots of alcoholic burn despite being only 80 proof. I'm not pleased with it, but it's drinkable. I would rate it 2.5 out of 5.

Now on to Rebel 100. While the 80 proof Rebel had a light aroma, the 100 proof Rebel barely has any aroma. But if I really stick my nose in the glencairn to the point that it leaves marks on my face, I get an extremely light bourbonish aroma mixed with heavy odors of booze. On tasting ... OH GOD, ALCOHOL ALCOHOL ALCOHOL BURN BURN BURN!!! This stuff is so boozy and alcoholy and burny it has no other flavor profiles. It's strong and metallic tasting. It's not "defiantly smooth" as their brand catchphrase says. It's defiant as in Johnny Reb doing a rebel yell and cracking me across the head with the butt of a musket. It's terrible! This stuff is bad. It's like Canadian Mist bad! I have a feeling that they took regular Rebel and just added alcohol to it in order increase the alcohol content to 100 proof. I mean they own Everclear so it's not out of the realm of possibilities. This stuff is undrinkable, I had to toss it down the drain. Good thing I only got a mini bottle. I rate it 1 out of 5. Absolutely horrible! Worst part is you have to pay 2 dollars more for this than regular Rebel.

So now I'm sure there are many readers who are thinking, Peashooter you bought cheap whiskey what did you expect? Buy cheapass whiskey win cheapass prizes. Well, there is another Kentucky Straight Bourbon out there for the same price range that totally blows Rebel out of the water. In fact where I live it's cheaper at $14.99 a bottle. And that bourbon is ...

I love Evan Williams Black Label, it's the cheapest good Kentucky straight bourbon you can buy in my opinion. There are certainly better bourbons out there and EW Black Label might be a bit rough around the edges, but it's still a very good and solid bourbon for an excellent price. I have a feeling that what Luxco is trying to do is unseat this old contender. If you are short on funds and can't afford better, don't buy Rebel and especially don't buy Rebel 100, buy this instead.
