The Real Yugioh Best Friend Characters
Like how Seto Kaiba was the rival prototype, Joey or Jonouchi was the best friend prototype character.
I have seen debates in yugioh gx and yugioh zexal spaces about who is the true rival character (Chazz vs Ryo and Kaito vs Shark). But you don't really see the same debates for the best friend characters. So I want to give my opinion.
First, what are my main characteristics of a BF character?
The protag's soulmate. Someone who shares a deep emotional and/or spiritual connection with the protag. Their stories intertwine.
Someone who is always on the front lines with the protag. Whether in the form of tag duelling, giving tough love encouragement or being a hope to the protag in low points. Brothers in arms.
Someone who is very protective of the protag and vice versa. A friendship where both are willing to die for each other.
Simple enough I hope.
Yugioh DM - Joey Wheeler / Jonouchi Katsuya
No explanation here. No one even comes close to Joey in OG Yugioh.
Yugioh GX - Jesse Anderson / Johan Andersen
Syrus / Sho is meant to be the best friend character to Judai. But he fails on many levels. He is more of a cheerleader type than a true best friend. Syrus hardly helps Judai in anything - in fact, Syrus abandoned Judai in his lowest moment in season 3 (don't care if he was influenced by the curse, the curse only exaggerated existing feelings). It becomes even more laughable when he and that dino guy fight over Judai in season 2. Judai can't count on Syrus when his back is against the wall and if Syrus was more like Joey, Judai would not feel so overwhelmed with everyone depending on him 100%. The exchange students were better friends to Judai in season 3 than Syrus.
Unlike Johan. Judai and Johan are soulmates from day 1. They are equals and they both have a lot of similarities and Johan inspires Judai. When Johan goes missing, Judai's world crumbles and Judai is a madman trying to save him. Not to mention the battle royal with Fujiwara was epic. I did not fully watch GX so I don't know all the Johan and Judai moments but I understand why people ship these two together.
Johan is Judai's true BF, not Syrus.
Yugioh 5Ds - Bruno
I have not fully watched 5Ds but I know the general plotlines. I don't have much of an opinion here. Crow Hogan is supposed to be the best friend and Jack the rival. But I am not impressed much by the Crow and Yusei friendship. Maybe it's because of Crow's late introduction in season 1 and how it felt like Crow and Yusei parted ways before the season began. When I think of Crow, I mainly think of his domestic spats with Jack.
Yusei and Bruno had an instant connection and it was so cute how Yusei was able to geek out with someone. Bruno's death scene still makes me cry on the inside man. Seeing Yusei cry at the end is gut-wrenching :'(
I wish Yusei had a BF like Joey. My main issue with 5Ds is that Yusei is always the one giving - like with Aki and Kiryu. And Yusei's season 1 friends were completely forgotten in favour of the Signers. Yusei deserved better.
Yugioh Zexal - Reginald Kastle / Ryoga Kamishiro
Bronk is supposed to be the BF character. However, like Syrus, Bronk fails to live up to the role for similar reasons. His connection with Yuma lacks any deep impact.
But Shark...Shark is the best. Can I just pause and gush about how much I adore Shark? This dude is one of the best characters in Zexal. Shark is both rival and best friend and I love it! He's like Joey in that he starts off as a bully but Yuma saves him through friendship and camaraderie. Like Yuma did not chase after anyone the way he chased after Shark :'). And my boy Shark is so protective of Yuma. He lost his soul against Kaito, trying to protect Yuma's key. He protected Yuma in the Faker and Mizael fight, getting seriously injured. Shark has Yuma's back people. And the way how Yuma and Shark give each other hope in their lowest moments...oh I love these two so much! And then when Shark is revealed to be Nasch, a Barian, the emotional rollercoaster these two go on. Shark was there at Yuma's side to face Don Thousand and being Yuma's last antagonist was so beautiful. Shark and Yuma are soulmates and Bronk can't even compete.
Shark is Yuma's true BF, not Bronk. And I would argue that Shark is Yuma's true rival, not Kaito. But let's not get into that.
Ultimately, Joey and Shark are my favourite best friend characters. Every guy needs a bro like Joey or Shark in their life. And Bruno actually died for Yusei. The friendships in Yugioh are amazing, so good.

ROUND 1A, MATCH 12 OUT OF 16!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Judai Yuki:
He's my blorbo. I mean! Being sleepy isn't his main character trait, but him napping in class all the time & overall is just very sleepy when he isn't dueling or saving the world. I love him so much. Best Yugioh protag (in my opinion) (though there are a lot of good ones...)
Sonic the Hedgehog:
he very often is shown relaxing (attempting) to sleep somewhere, hates being woken up/waking up in the morning
Over multiple pieces of media, Sonic is a very sleepy guy. This is mainly seen in Sonic X (where he’s often seen napping on Chris’s roof in the first two seasons), but can also be seen in other pieces of media (for example, part of his idle animation in Sonic Generations includes him falling asleep waiting for you to start playing the game again, although this is specific to Modern Sonic. Additionally, Sonic and the Secret Rings opens on a shot of Sonic asleep with a copy of the Arabian Nights on his face) and is a common part of fanfiction. He just appears to prefer to sleep if he’s not running or busy, and it’s very fitting for a hedgehog because from what I’ve seen hedgehogs sleep a lot.

tumblr user shitpostingkats. talk to me about yuki judai and my best friend crow 5ds
*does a snappy salute* Absolutely!
Jaden Yuki/Yuki Judai
How I feel about this character: My monstrous little card game fella who I love SO much. Came into my house and kicked me in the ribs by being the actual textbook example of the "Aw! What a silly little guy!" to "He's a little bit fucked up actually" pipeline. I love how absolutely insane and messy he's allowed to be for a main character, not only did most of his arcs hit FAR too close to home, but it's just such a good example of how to take the archetypal plucky protag and deconstruct it a bit to add layers to the character. My second favorite yugioh character of all time, if I'm being subjective, my #1 fave if I'm being objective. Levels of queer neurodivergent swag I aspire to match.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I just can't deny Jaden his funky southern rock boyf. I read him as somewhere on the ace spectrum, in a QPR with Jesse/Johan that all their friends assume is a traditional romantic relationship. Also, Yusei Fudo, because I am a sucker for narrative parallels, celestial imagery, stupid aces with the social skills of a tennis shoe.
My non-romantic otp for this character: I think he and Chazz have this relationship where Chazz gets up in the night, goes down to his kitchen, flips on the lights, and Jaden is just there eating his cereal. They are BEST FRIENDS and Chazz will not admit this even if you put a gun to his head.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Man, I wish we'd gotten more time with Yubel, but I never really got the feeling that Jaden felt any strong romantic/partner emotions towards them. Him choosing to fuse with Yubel is less a "And I will now give up everything for you, my One True Soulmate", and more just a simple acknowledgement of "You've been hurt really horribly because of me, so I'm offering you kindness and accepting responsibility for our relationship, because you don't deserve to be in pain" Which, personally, I think is a lot more impactful and fulfilling of his personal arc.
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: I kinda wish he hadn't actually graduated high school? I mean, obviously they would never do that, but I remember watching the final season and thinking "Yeah, there's no way he's going to graduate." Idk, he's just got Highschool Dropout energy to me and I almost wanted to see that. Let him fail out of school because he was too busy sorting out his mental health! That's very valid of him!
Crow Hogan
How I feel about this character: Trans king! I look at one picture of Crow and my brain just maxes out "Trans! Bird! Guy!" He commits crime. He has five kids. He literally named himself after a yugioh card. There's just so much good big bro energy in this funky dude. I would trust him with my life.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Uh, probably no one? There's not really any named character in the series I feel he had romantic chemistry with. He and Broder probably dated for a bit then broke up and remained friends.
My non-romantic otp for this character: The first ep. he was introduced and we actually see Yusei smile for almost the first time all series and duel and have fun with it, the big hug and the way each others face lights up when they see each other for the first time in years. Your honor, they are very important.
My unpopular opinion about this character: He's older than Yusei. Yeah I don't care what canon says, Yusei is the family Babey and Crow is a full six months older than him.
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Some more exploration on what Crow gaining his signer mark actually meant to him. Did he feel like a replacement? What exactly did it mean to him that the tail mark jumped to him just so the head could move to Yusei? He's kind of the only one who doesn't get a whole plotline on how they feel about being a signer, so I always feel like there's some untapped potential for an arc there.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
Sure.
They aren't in any particular order, just girls and than the guys but they are my top 10 favs.
.
.
Sunset Shimmer (My little Pony equestria girls)
Tumblr media
I love every one of the girls from EG but my favourite is most definitely Sunset.
I love seeing her grow, becoming friends with the others and finding herself.
Sunset's always trying to help others, making peace with her past and her risking everything in forgotten friendship made me cry.
Girl deserves so much.
Her resolve, her empathy for others and just a good ol villian to bestie arc is why I love her.
.
.
Stella (Winx club)
Tumblr media
We don't speak of fate Stella.
Stella makes her mark from the first episode, she's the mysterious bubbly princess from another world.
I love her, so much.
She's loving and caring, damn near sacrificing herself in the Omega dimension just to keep her friends warm.
Stella is undoubtedly one of the best parts of winx club, helping Bloom get through Alfea and her relationship with all the Winx and Brandon.
Girls also got a temper and don't take bs which I just admired as a kid and I still do.
That and I always wanted to learn to sew and make clothing things, watching her make them.
.
.
Weiss Schnee (RWBY)
Tumblr media
The ice Queen herself, absolutely love her. Her development is everything.
I love watching her interact witb her team, both snarky and loving. She's been a bridge to keep her team, her friends from falling apart.
I love Weiss because she was willing to grow and change. She was always silently rebelling and truly realised what was important to her.
That and her weapon and semblance is just amazing.
Seeing her make amends, grow and learn and accept those around her. Being the best team mate she can be, just yess.
And IQ just hammers that point home.
.
.
Mereoleona Vermillion (Black Clover)
Tumblr media
I love all the woman from Black Clover but Mereoleona is my favourite.
She's an absolute terrifying badass of a woman who said nah you can't teach me anything I don't know.
She's not the Lioness for no reason.
Woman's just an inspirational badass who takes no shit and shows everyone time and time again to not underestimate her.
She's funny, she's blunt and I just love seeing fight.
.
.
Princess Rosalina (Mario, Super Mario)
Tumblr media
Don't have much to say about Rosalina, she was my favourite of the princesses growing up and I find comfort in her to this day.
.
.
Judai/Jaden Yuki (Yugioh GX)
Tumblr media
My favourite of the protags. I fucking love Judai's story, that he's the most idiotic, loving son of a bitch you'll ever meet.
He's hilarious in the dub and I just shake my head fondly at the stuff that he says.
His arc hits close to home, no I've never killed anyone but I have been that depressed.
Watching him go from the lowest of low to finding happiness again is heartwarming and I was cheering him on the whole way.
.
.
Casey Jones (Teenage mutant ninja turtles, 2012)
Tumblr media
This mother fucker, my favourite character from the show till this day. He was fun comic relief and just expanding on his story now is fun.
That and knowing he's so much more than comic relief, the speed Demon episode is forever my favourite.
That and watching him, this regular guy (as if you could ever call Casey Jones, regular) make his own gadgets and become family to the turtles is just so cool.
.
.
Jason Grace (Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus)
Tumblr media
I have ranted at length about my love for Jason Grace.
He is so underused, underutilised and under appreciated.
Seeing him lose everything, trying to rebuild it and finding a home with the seven just gets to me.
He's the golden child who stopped shining and had to find himself, and I feel that.
I love watching him interact with the others (minus the whole stupid rivalry between him and Percy that makes no sense.)
I just love him, he's my boi.
.
.
Jason Todd/Red Hood (Batman, DC)
Tumblr media
Jason to me hits the same as Judai.
He's the fun loving child that went through hell and walked a dark path alone.
I cheer him on, I want him to be happy.
I loved his crime boss era it was so badass and just the way he differs from batman.
His ideology of controlling crime is both interesting and compelling.
I just think he's cool.
.
.
Makoto Naegi (Danganronpa)
Tumblr media
My bean.
My boi.
Deserved so much, I love him and his long hecking speeches about hope.
He went through hell itself and everyone turned on him and came out of it smiling, I respect him so much.

Or Judai! I'd be cool with Judai too! (< person who sent manjoume for the character ask game)
Judai too!!! Let's go let's go!!!
First Impression: So like funny story. I first saw Judai when I was 10 and obsessed with 5Ds and god I HATED him LOL I thought he was so arrogant and annoying, I just could not STAND this boy. I don't know if younger me would adore me because I own the core rose dragon deck or slap me across the face for liking Jaden Yuki. "BLUH" younger me cried. "JADEN? I HATE JADEN! JADEN WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD AS YUSEI! YUSEI IS THE BEST PROTAG AND 5DS IS THE BEST SHOW!" I was so goofy when I was a kid.
Impression now: in late 2021, I watched yugioh gx and read the manga. At first I was pissed because I still believed in 5Ds supremacy. I believed in Yusei and Yusei only. But then I got like a couple of episodes in. And man. Watching Judai just have fun was so NICE!! Watching his friendship with Bastion especially and watching his relationship with his friends grow and watching him learn and go on silly adventures in season 1 was just FUN. Judai is fun and that's why I like him, GX could trick you into thinking school is fun because with Judai as a protagonist, everything does feel fun! And it makes me happy. He is also my son!! He's very hard to dislike and very hard to hate and he's a really interesting character to analyse.
[LONG DUMBASS RAMBLE AHEAD]
A lot of GX's subtle storytelling in season 1 foreshadows a lot about Judai's life and its interesting seeing it piece all together in season 3. The fact that Judai doesn't have a lot of memories of his childhood and the fact he doesn't go home at all kind of suggests from the start that he at some point has experienced some kind of trauma and that he's most likely a latchkey kid (which isn't too uncommon in Japan). Additionally, watching his mental health decline and seeing him self destruct while trying to keep up with his hero complex is painful but also feels surprisingly real. I mentioned it briefly in Manjoume's ask but Judai in a way perfectly encapsulates the ups and downs of adolescence - depicted through his complicated relationship with his friend circle, his implied romance with Johan, the build up of all his stress and ultimately his downfall. And that's just why I love him!! He's a tornado of emotions and a ball of energy. He runs into every new adventure, whisking the audience away with him and giving us insight in his wins, his loses, his mistakes and how he rectifies them. A lot of characters do get sidelined in GX but at the end of the day, GX is in a weird way about growing up and its through Jaden we see that happen. It almost makes me emotional seeing him in season 4 because you can tell that the events that have happened have changed him and he's no longer that silly kid that played baseball with his best friends or gambled for sandwiches during lunch. The events in the series have permanently changed him and he's grown up.
You'll never be that kid again, but in the end you're still you. And as long as you find happiness in your own way, you don't ever need to be the same as the way you were. You have to just keep moving forward and do what's best for you.
Judai is wonderfully written and incredibly likable in his own silly way, and that's why he's my favourite protag.
.
OOF I WROTE TOO MUCH NEXT QUESTION
Favourite moment: I like the episode where he paints Bastion's bedroom :D I also like the scene where he forgives Yubel, made me emotional
Idea for a story: So many. Too many to write here.
Unpopular opinion: Idk if this is unpopular but I don't like when people limit Jaden's personality to being obsessed with duel monsters. He has other hobbies! He plays all sorts of sports, plays video games, likes to fish, browses web forums, etc. (Not aimed at anyone in particular naturally, just a pet peeve of mine)
Favourite relationship: Oughh I like Spiritshipping... but I also like Gx Rivalshipping... But I also like Heroshipping... platonic fiance is my favourite thing too... his relationship with Bastion is also heavily slept on... but also his complex friendship with Syrus and how Hassleberry looks up to him and how codependency (not necessarily romantically) is explored through his relationship with Yubel...
Man Judai ROCKS
Favourite headcanon: That boy has the tism!! He's filled with autism!! I hc he's gay too but tbh it's suggested so hard in the show it might as well be canon. I also hc he collects blu-ray and dvd sets of movies, his favourite cartoons and famous duel matches. Aspec Judai is p rad too

the context:
Tumblr media
the resulting quick two-minute list bc i cant remember ALL of my meow meows off the top of my head:
judai yuki
yuya sakaki + his unfortunate alternates (yuto, yugo, yuuri)
yusaku fujiki
ouma kokichi
saihara shuuichi
akechi goro
childe tartaglia ajax last name
g’raha tia
ainchase ishmael
btw, this list has a very specific definition of meow meow - in that for now, it will be men or men-adjacent, and there is some doable sense in actually imagining my meow meows as poor little kitties literally speaking
so i can’t include some of my other faves like Fray (they have a backbone) or Zhongli (hes grandpa not meow meow) or Kaeya (man’s a mess and borderline meow meow but i also don’t like nor want to imagine him as a poor cat like please give him some agency), etc.
anyway the analysis!!
Judai - literally loses it mentally, spawns an alter ego that commits genocide, is a depressed semi-cringe mess after the fact, generally bad with friendship at times
Yuya and co. - the entire fucking anime is a traumatic conga line except for Yuuri who’s enjoying the literal carnage
Yusaku - has PTSD and probably depression, lowkey goes through some shit over the course of the anime but ultimately goes from intense broody loner who doesnt want to bring others in for fear of hurting them to shounen protag who accepts the power of friendship. also i am This close to adding Ai into this as well but that little guy is a whole other can of worms and honestly Ai himself is kinda a meow meow but until s4 he’s literally the designated butt monkey until the producers “oh shit make him Hot and make him the antagonist” and sdiugcgsdyusuyd i could go on forever on this
Ouma - a trickster, patholoigcal liar, has massive trust issues but still wants to help everyone except he just cannot get himself to cooperate without pulling teeth (understandably so), at heart a nice guy it’s just hidden behind his lvl9999 friendship level and the fact he’s seeing the worst of humanity right now so honestly give him some slack
Saihara - initially a nervous traumatized wreck with probably depression and anxiety until Character Development and he becomes more confident and kinda cool actually. also his depression never really goes away even at the end of the game so it’s nice to see that while he’s still struggling with it, he grows in a way that he has the means to grapple with it all the same. also he has the coolest debate animations with a sword like naegi and hinata take some NOTES!!!!!
Akechi - he’s had a terrible childhood, probably traumatized by the idea of being loved bc his dad sure doesn’t give a shit and his mom is a 50-50 depending on how you want to view it. either way, social systems further ruin his life and then, when the idea of plausible revenge comes to him, he takes it bc he understandably can’t just let all of his suffering go, but is twisted by the ambition into doing anything for it including murder. and then he dies. and then he not-dies and you’re forced to decide his fate when he just wants to be free of it all at that point and my god third semester Hurts
Childe - loyal general to a god rebelling against the divine (likely; technically unknown but we can plausibly assume at this point). just wanted to be a cool hero, got chased around and fell into literal void hell and came back with a taste for ever-difficult thrill and bloodlust but still retaining his loving family self so its a funny dichotomy of ruthless soldier and best big brother in the whole world. does he have mental issues? sorta no, actually, he’s just got a very Different view of the world.
G’raha - this man is a literal meow meow for fucks sake (also he can cook. he can cook!! he looks after you, gives you money, does all he can to make sure you don’t have an issues whatsoever, my god if he isn’t a meow meow he’s just a househusband!!!!!!). also he implicitly has depression of some kind until later on in the story + pulls a lot of insane shit just to save your life like god damn. also - pathetically bad at acting.
Ain - his 3rd path is a whole roller coaster but his 4th really makes him a meow meow in my eyes; to become so desperate as to indiscriminately destroy in order to get his goddess’ attention on him again, it’s truly a pathetic meow meow situation. also his 2nd path is cute for teaching him to learn emotions and love people despite being a ‘higher’ being of sorts. also the whole “gonna sacrifice myself and be forgotten” bit i guess lmao
TL;DR
-have a very sharp duality of personality/motivations externally or internally, often with a side of mental health problems. -be put in twisted or difficult scenarios that are often twisted so because of their own actions. -the above should lead to them acting in a way that seems.... kinda pathetic, when you take a step back. at least a little. -THEY NEED TO STRUGGLE, AT SOME POINT, SOMEWHERE with some exceptions depending. -there is a bonus if they’re be good supportive loving husbands all things aside, but not super mandatory

16. Favourite AU.
It all depends on the fandom, but I will just say my three favourites.
Altertale
This is, IMO, the best Undertale AU out there. I love the premise that Toriel and Asgore switch places with Sans and Papyrus. I love the art of the creator. I love short/tall ships. I love the designs. It is a Soriel AU.
10/10
God of Thunder
This is, without question, the best My Hero Academia AU of all time. The story is that Izuku Midoriya finds Mjollnir in a forest 10 months before UA and has Thor as his mentor. I love how they made Sero into a Naruto fan. The interesting thing about it, Izuku doesn't have One For All, Mirio does. This fic/AU is a must read if you love MHA. Also it is a Midotsuyu ship.
10/10
Seto adopts Jaden/ Tag Force: Heroes and Villains
I know I said three, but these two are so 👌, that I couldn't resist.
Seto adopts Jaden Au is an Au where Seto Kaiba, after he realizes that the winner of his contest went into shock thearpy, adopts Jaden Yuki and more or so kills his parents. The changes are some of my favourites of all time period. Like him, Chazz, Aster, Bastion, Alexis, Atticus, Adrian and Echo being childhood friends, Seto roasting the shit out of Sheppard and my personal fave, Jaden adopting every other protag and more. Please for the love of god follow this.
Tag Force: Heroes and Villains is the best fanfic I have ever read in my entire life. This follows Wilona Konami, an OC, and her adventure with her friend/crush Jaden Yuki across 3 years. It finished season 1 and I am waiting for an update. This has so many changes such as Seika Being in here, Jesse being part of the gang mid way the fanfic, Sora Perse and the Tyler Sisters being here, New Shadow Riders such as Revendread Slayer, Judai Being a separate character from Jaden, New cards etc. This is a most read.
Both 10/10
7. Favourite fandom to write/read on
I guess you know what fandom I like writing on, huh?
The two I love writing the most are Yugioh GX and My Hero Academia. On my AO3 page I mostly either write duels, short one shots od the characters Being chaotic and Dadzawa. I am planing on writing MHA x Ben 10 with Jaden Yuki in it, of course.
But reading is pretty much any show that I love so for example: Ben 10, Gravity Falls, Total Drama, Yugioh, Mha, Komi etc.

Rating the Yugioh Protagonist by my dumb standards;
8. Shoma Yusa from the Structures Manga. I count him but I know nothing about him. He's cute but I have no clue about anything about him so he's the bottom.
Tumblr media
7. Yusei Fudo from 5Ds. 5Ds is my personal least favorite of the Yugiohs but Yusei is really interesting to me just cause he's so much more mature than the others. Faithshipping is my favorite ship for him.
Tumblr media
6. Yugi Muto and Yami Yugi (Atem) from Duel Monsters and DSOD. Yugi and the Pharoah are a great duo but Yugi never got the chance to be the MC until DSOD which he was amazing. Puzzleshipping is my favorite ship from DM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Yuma Tsukumo and Astral from ZEXAL. Yuma can be annoying but his dynamic with Astral is great. They only slightly beat out Yugi and Atem because of their ZEXAL morph and Yuma's deck being more appealing to me. Keyshipping is great.
Tumblr media
4. Yusaku Fujiki from VRains. My depressed boi, he needs a hug and some friends. Yusaku and VRains needed more time but from what I've seen of VRains, Yusaku is great. His design beats out Yuma, especially the color pallets. He's also a literal magical girl, no I refuse to belive otherwise. I'm torn between Aiballshipping and Datastormshipping as my VRains OTP.
Tumblr media
3. Judai Yuki (Jaden Yuki) from GX. GX is my first series and Judai is...wow from me when I realize that he is legit a war criminal but may have sparked my "evil alter ego to a happy go lucky cutie" kink. I love his Season 4 design and how much as changed from Season 1-3. SPIRITSHIPPING IS MY FAVORITE YUGIOH SHIP.
Tumblr media
2. Yuga Oudo(?can't spell) from SEVENS. Yuga is adorable and has a lot of braincells, overall SEVENS subverts at lot of Yugioh troupes and I like that. He's crazy and cooky and made a new Yugioh Format. Sometimes he doesn't even feel like the protag. But I love his design. I have no ships for him and honestly it's probably for the best.
Tumblr media
1. Yuya Sakaki from ARC-V. I personally love ARC-V and Yuya is such an interesting character because he is a small part of the story as a whole. He's only a small segment of the big puzzle. I also love his deck, Magicians and Dragons in the Circus. I honestly think of him as Asexual instead of having a ship but otherwise Fruitshipping is the ship for ARC-V.
Tumblr media
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, this is completely subjective and do give me your own opinion.

Does the Yugiohs goes to space?
DM: No space content. Lame 0/10
GX: Judai spends one episode on an alien planet and comes back with a deck full of aliens. They also fight a satellite in space at the end of season 2 and best boy Judai once sent his enby dragon partner to space once. Slightly scarce but decent space content. 6/10
5Ds: City falls from the sky and a motorcycle flies but neither to or from space :( 1/10
Zexal: Alien from space is always at the protag's side from episode 1! And the second season is all about even more aliens, complete with an epic journey through space to fight some aliens on another planet. Very good space content 8/10
Arc V: Exactly one scene where a monster attacks from space like a satellite. 2/10
VRAINS: Still no space. I'm getting bluespaced. 0/10
Sevens: The program for rush duels is a robot on the moon that's very plot relevant in the season 1 finale and throughout season 2. The Goha 6 also come down from space at the beginning of season 2 after attending school in space for a while. The final duel also takes place entirely in space after the main gang built a rocket to space and powered it with explosive curry. Awesome space content. 8/10
Go Rush: Entire show takes place in space and includes so many aliens! 10/10 Best space show.

Failure in Yugioh GX
Let me preface with some disclaimers. I did not fully watch GX. I watched all of season 1 dub. I watched all of season 2 in dub, but also saw major scenes in sub. I watched most of season 3 in dub and sub. I hardly saw season 4, but I saw the Judai and Johan tag duel and the Chazz vs Aster duel. I also saw some scenes with Kaiser and Shou/Syrus. So moving on!
Chazz/Manjoume is my fav GX character. He and Kaiser are considered Judai/Jaden's rival. While Chazz I would argue has better claim on the title, I have read opinions where Kaiser is the better rival because he was able to beat Judai. Chazz is at the bottom of the totem pole in Yugioh rival rankings but I believe that ultimately Chazz is a stronger character than Kaiser. This is because how they differ in how they handle failure.
I relate to both boys. I was always a top achiever in school. Academics was the centre of my life. It's what I based my self-worth on. I was not good at sports and mediocre at music, but prizegiving was my time to shine. Getting good grades was my path out of poverty and I would have brief nightmares of being homeless on the street. When I went to college, I was suddenly surrounded by other smart people and I lost my competitive edge. I still worked hard but my motivation was low and I struggled in subjects that used to come fairly easy to me like math and physics. Zane and Chazz were also top achievers at duel academy and their identity centred around being the best. However, one fell harder than the other. Why is that?
The first difference is when the failure happened. For Zane, he was top dog all throughout school. He had his first crushing failure against Aster/Edo when he entered pro-dueling. Losing here means fan backlash and loss of sponsorships. This is his source of income. There's higher stakes. For Chazz, he first major failure was in school. Sure, he was mocked by his classmates and teachers and he was eventually demoted. However, there is more leeway when you fail in school.
The second is how the failure is framed. For Chazz, his defeat to Jaden was a humbling moment. Up till then, Chazz was a snobby Oblelisk who looked down on others. Jaden was also a fair opponent. He never intentionally belittled Chazz. Zane's failure was shattering. Aster humiliated him and when watching it I felt as if Zane was wronged somehow in that duel, especially in the dub version.
Next is the support system. Both basically had no one after their defining defeats. However, after Chazz defeated North Academy he gained their respect and they supported him 100%. Zane seems to have no support after he loses. Fubuki/Atticus and Asuka/Alexis are supposed to be his closest friends but we never see them reach out when Zane is at his lowest before becoming Hell Kaiser. In my humble opinion, I believe GX had the weakest friendships. The only one who really supported Judai and felt like an equal was Johan. His friends never seem to be much help in the action unlike the friends of other protags like Yuma and Yusei so no surprise there.
However, what makes Chazz a stronger character to me is how he handles failure. After Zane's defeat, he has a bad losing streak and has a depressive spiral. In order to feel like a winner again, he abandons his morals and honour to become Hell Kaiser. In the process, he permanently damaged his body. He fell from glory and never fully recovered. Chazz, on the other hand, is different. He runs away in shame after he loses to Bastion. However, after he confronts his brothers his attitude to defeat changes. He stopped caring what others thought of him. When he loses, he makes sarcastic remarks and just bounces back stronger. He even loses on purpose to Judai on 2 occasions (Society of Light duel and the Ojamanjoume duel). Unlike Zane, Chazz does not lose himself. While Zane declined due to failure, Chazz rose to become a better character. To the point where I can picture Manjoume Thunder still making the crowd go wild even if he loses a match.
Yugioh GX is about growing up. Zane and Chazz can teach you valuable lessons about failure. Chazz failed early and often. Therefore, by the end of GX he was confident in himself and had the mentality to handle hard times. Zane was not prepared for the real world. While Judai challenged him, he was never dethroned and his beliefs were never shaken. So when it did happen, he could not cope. Zane is the embodiment of high-achieving students who can't function outside the rigidity of school. My mission is to be more like Chazz as I venture out of school.

Here’s my post about Judai and Yusei not respecting people xD, under the cut bcus it’s kinda long lol
Tumblr media
When I was listening to the Japanese dialogue in GX, 5Ds, and BBT, I picked up on how Judai and Yusei weren’t using formal speech when they were supposed to. It’s easy to differentiate formal speech from informal if you listen for “masu” and “desu” at the end of sentences. That’s very common for anime characters to do, but it also makes it more significant when they do use formal speech. I checked multiple scenes where Judai and Yusei should have been more respectful to a specific person, so here’s what I’ve found:
For Judai, there are only two people I know of who he’s been formal with. The more minor one is--surprisingly--Cronos. When Judai first introduced himself to Cronos in episode 1, he used “desu”, but then he immediately reverted to casual speech. This is actually a good character detail in my opinion. It isn’t as though Judai suddenly decided that Cronos wasn’t worthy of his respect (like an example I’ll be giving for Yusei), but it implies that he struggles to break the habit of being casual. It’s nice that he tried though xD. The other person Judai used formal speech for is Yugi, and he was actually consistent about it. This is another good character detail, because it really emphasizes the level of respect and admiration that Judai has for Yugi :).
Now, for Yusei, he also has used formal speech with only three people as far as I know. The first one is the Duel Academy vice principal, Heitmann, from one of the filler episodes. (Yusei was asked by the headmaster to “repair” something at the school, but he was actually supposed to deal with the teacher’s poor mindset about duelist skill.) Because the school was temporarily employing him, Yusei initially spoke politely to Heitmann. Once it became clear that Heitmann was a shit person, Yusei probably deemed him unworthy of extra respect, and he reverted to casual speech, which I found very funny. (I wonder if the parallel to Judai’s example with Cronos is just a coincidence.) This still puts Yusei a cut above Judai when it comes to following social conventions xD.
The two others that Yusei was formal with are Yugi (who makes sense) and Judai (who makes less sense) in BBT. I would just say that Yusei showed extra respect for Yugi because of him being the King of Games, but that can’t be applied to Judai. It’s usually standard to use formal language with people you haven’t met before, so that could be a simple explanation, but it isn’t consistent with Yusei’s behavior towards strangers throughout 5Ds. My best guess is this was more of a meta decision? As the previous protags, Yugi and Judai are technically Yusei’s seniors, which would call for Yusei being formal (assuming he follows the proper social conventions, which he sometimes does). Sidenote: one of the characters I checked for politeness from Yusei was Aki’s politician father, and I think it’s funny that Yusei was 100% informal with him.
Now honorifics with these two are another story...Yusei actually uses them somewhat frequently (for Aki and others), but Judai only has a few people he refers to that way. I’ve only found a few people he uses honorifics for (obviously not Manjoume, lol), but Judai does consistently use people’s titles. This includes calling teachers “sensei”, calling Ryou “Kaiser”, sometimes calling Manjoume “Thunder”, calling Pegasus “President” (president of Industrial Illusions), etcetera. The most expected person for Judai to use “-san” for is Yugi. Besides that, he has referred to Fubuki as Fubuki-senpai or Fubuki-san on multiple occasions, and he uses “-san” for Tome (if anyone doesn’t recognize her name, she’s the school store lady).
Japanese is cool >:)

Soooo with all the artwork I’ve been doing for Yu-Gi-Oh! I decided to bring back an old concept of mine which was a Peach Shipping kiddo. She was originally named Haru and I hadn’t thought about much for her other than she liked dancing like her mom... and now we have this version of her, who is now named Momoka. (And is part of mine and Storm’s Duel Dad AU/Our Game Now continuity which to summarize, Yugi winds up becoming the father to three of the future protags. Namely, Judai, Yusei and Yuya. So keep that in mind with the description below.)
Momoka Mutou is an adventurous little girl. Always looking to explore the world around her and is always curious about the various Kas she can see naturally just like her brothers. The one she is closest with is Judai. Both having an affinity for attracting wandering Kas to them and both having a love for duel monsters. (She even mimics him a bit with wearing a hoodie that somewhat matches.)
She also has a personal Ka that is unique to her, which is where Peach Kuriboh comes in. It is her best friend and follows her everywhere.
 Other Facts:
- Don't let the pink and bright colors fool you she is not afraid to get dirty. She has come home a huge mess after taking a tumble in the dirt with her brothers. (No regrets)
- She's trying to learn the pan flute that Judai plays but isn't as good as him yet.
- She enjoys riding in the back of Yusei's bike and loves riding her bike with him when she can. (He taught her how.)
- She likes Crystal hunting with Yuya.
- Just like anyone else in the family, she loves saying Katobingu! when doing something exciting. (She adores Uncle Yuma)
- Only a few select people can all her Momo-chan. (Mainly family members and close friends)
- Her favorite types of duel monsters are fairies and dragons.
- When she duels she likes to dance a bit when she's playing her cards
-  She is also the type of kid to boop even the scariest of duel monsters on the nose. Because she wants to.
And that’s it for the time being. =) I’ll be doing some other artwork of her later. But for now, I present this cute little peach.

To me I kinda think it will be easy if all the yugioh protagonists were eveelutions so in Yuma case he can be a leafeon while astral a glaceon, Yusei being a jolteon, yugi being also a umbreon same with atem and yusaku uh… shiny glaceon and Ai a sylveon, finally yuga a little evee I guess it the reason is that they have their own and grown potential as the eveelution and can’t imagine a cute yugioh eveelution family.
I think eeveelutions are kinda boring and do not reflect how the protags are, that’s like saying they’re all the same with only one difference and I think that’s kind of a crime. Tbh the only one who fits eevee’s motif is judai/jaden but even then there is not evolution that fits his later self after he fuses with yubel
Also there’s Pokémon who look exactly like the protags ex: yuma and the venipede line, or yusaku’s playmaker form looking legit EXACTLY like gossifleur
I just don’t think eevee is the best choice
