Hi everyone here's another list with all my favourite fics that I've read so far I hope you all enjoy, I added a tag to some fics to give you an idea of what it's about the ones without tags are some drabbles or mainly just smut so I wasn't sure which tag to use, also just so you know these fics aren't in an order of most favourite to least favourite it's goes according to my memory. canon verse! eren x Marlean! reader
as Lauren would put it, this is sad fluff y’all. as always, our ocs are never in an actual relationship and i’m considering making that my BRAND.

warnings: spoilers for season 4!! (takes place a little before Eren fucks up you know who (M*rley)), angst but like make it subtle (?), no happy ending but not a really sad one either, Eren being the emotionally unstable wreck he always is we all still love him tho, uh i think that’s all

You’re pretty, Eren thinks. Way too pretty to be doing this, to be here, to even, really, be looking at him. He, also, doesn’t have time to be entertaining these kinds of thoughts, when he has a million and one other, more pressing thoughts. But your pretty eyes seem to be the only thing his brain is willing to think about; the way you smiled at him, with all the gentleness this shitty world could offer, as you made your way towards him.
He thinks his mission here is justified, the Marleyans— you— deserved it. After how they treated his people? It was only fair. And yet, he couldn’t forget how your hair framed your face, your smile warmed his soul, and your palm in his felt like soft, tender kindness. How could you, a pretty thing, be amongst monsters like him? He was certain this was some kind of torture to you; there was no way you’d be doing this willingly, you must have done something wrong for them to have given you such a lowly, soul-sucking job as this, to not even be at the war front, but to be looking after scum like him. It didn’t suit you— you, radiant as the sun and sweet as the spring breeze, were out of place amongst these broken shells of men.
“It’s the least I can do,” you’d told him when he asked why you’d take up such a job, “I don’t pretend to know what kinds of things you’ve been through, but, no offense, it seems like you’ve been carrying the world on your shoulders, and you’re tired of it.” Eren almost laughed at how pathetically right you were on that, “I guess i’m just trying to be a temporary crutch, for whatever comes next in your path.”
Eren humed, not knowing how to feel about your words.
“your eyes,” you’d told him, “i’m sure they were once bright, you know, i don’t know what you saw, but whatever it was, i hope you’re freed from it some day.”
Eren stays quiet; for a split second, he thinks you know. You know everything; what he did, what he plans to do, and how it’ll end. Maybe you do; maybe you’re an ancient goddess, sent by Ymir. A gift? A warning? A break?
Eren stops the thought there. You can’t be a goddess. You’re too good, too kind. Gods are not kind, not when they’ve shoved and beaten and pushed Eren, a measly human— although some might call him a god, gods blessed— to what he has become now.
No, if anything, you’re otherworldly; not of this realm, but from one where sunshine is kept in people’s bags and tenderness is free to give.
“My eyes,” he rasps, “they once looked like my mother’s.” He’s not sure why he tells you this; perhaps it’s because he’s ashamed, ashamed that Carla has a son like him. Her memory tarnished by his sins; in you, he hopes to find someone worthy of surviving her. Who better than a divine kindness?
Careful of his bandages, you brush a couple of matty strands of hair from his face in order to fully appreciate his uninjured eye. And it’s when you touch him, as gently as you do, that he has to dig his blunt nails unto his palm in order to stop himself from tearing, from sobbing. There’s something about you that makes him feel safe, at home, like he can rest, if only just for a few minutes, before he has to pretend to be something he so desperately does not want to become. You remind him of his mother.
He doesn’t know whether to curse or praise you and your touch.
He roughly encases your wrist in his palm, and it’s the most he can do to keep himself from feeling your forgiving touch. You hear the strain in his voice, “leave tonight. Leave Marley, and do not come back.”
Your mind is speeding at the man’s words, but one look into his eyes has you closing your mouth, trapping your thoughts. You’re sure his eyes were once as bright as green meadows in the spring, or the kind of green that can only be found deep enough into a forest, brimming full of life, with streams of sunlight trickling through the tree tops. You’re sure those eyes were once full of life just as the color is, but now, they hold the kind of green that can only be found in shattered glass bottles at the side of the streets. Empty. Broken.
Eren sees your nodding as he lets go of your warm skin, giving you a final look of farewell as you step away from him with the last bits of tenderness the man will ever see.
Somehow, Eren feels the burden at his back lighten, if just a little. This was what he wanted: to save people. Kill the titans to save his people. It had turned out to be more complicated than that. Ymir and the rest of the gods toying with his fate, with him. But if he could spare a soul, a tender one at that, the raging hate he bore for himself stilled, if just for a moment.
