Spring 2023 Anime List

Last season (winter 2022) had so much great anime, and watched 28 anime of the list, so I'm pretty pleased with that count. This season is quite doable as there's only 25 anime this time, rather lot of relationship and isekai anime. But will see, what will happen, and there's few anime which I'll hype so much. :D

Sounds interesting, it's about cat who comfort people. There's 15 episodes, and it will be divided into three 5 episode parts.

MAPPA's new anime, can't wait as it looks so good, and the cast is so nice, Kobayashi Chiaki, Kimura Ryohei, Ono Kensho, Furukawa Makoto... and story with ninjas is always good start.

天国大魔境/Tengoku Daimakyou/Heavenly Delusion

Rather peculiar story, and PV looked interesting, so curious to see how this will go.

Interesting story, although not sure how it will turn out, but curious nevertheless, and it's always nice hear Shun Horie and Okamoto Nobuhiko.

AAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ Finally something who made Starmyu!!!!! Also Arai Ken is back who made the music on Starmyu and Urashimasakatasen is performing OP. This is so good and so happy to see their exceptional work once again. The cast is unbelievable, and most of my favorites is in it. Story is unique, compaining art and music, and the execution is different. AAAHHHH, CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Anime of the season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PV looked pretty and it's always nice to see music anime and it's now about orchestra and violin players which is quite rarely portrayed, so happy and excited to see this. Also Chiba Shouya is main character's voice actor, there's also Enko Junya, Furukawa Makoto and Asanuma Shintarou.

Jak opisuje Crunchyroll fabułę: od ponad dekady istnieją "bramy" łączące nasz świat z innym wymiarem. Pewni ludzie przebudzili w sobie nadnaturalne moce i są znani jako "łowcy". Jinwoo Sung, łowca niskiej rangi, jest znany jako "najsłabszy łowca wszech czasów". Pewnego dnia przyjmuje tajemnicze zadanie i po tym, gdy był bliski śmierci... zaczyna zdobywać poziomy, jako jedyny łowca na świecie.

I am abandoning making a Media Thread on the former bird website, and will update that here now. The plan is to list whatever I'm watching/reading/playing once a month or so, with how I'm feeling about it. Plus I'll probably make longer writeups for anything I really liked that I want to talk about at length. And of course, there'll probably be spoilers for whatever 20+ year old thing I'm into right now.

Anyway, here's what I've been doing so far this year:

Fist of the North Star, volume 8: The finale of the battle with Souther, up to Toki's death at the ends of Ryuga. Raoh and Toki's fight, and the reveal that they're blood brothers, was definitely /much/ better in the manga than the Toei anime. I definitely still love the Toei anime, but reading the manga, I'm realizing every problem I had with the series was anime-original.

Patlabor 2: Somehow, the only part of Patlabor I haven't seen yet is the last two movies. Patlabor 2 is a damn good movie! It's definitely a Mamoru Oshii film. There's a lot of neat stuff going on, and I liked having a big focus on Shinobu. But also, it's definitely so wildly different from the rest of Patlabor. I like it, and I want to rewatch it at some point, but it's not my favorite entry.

Police Story: Buddy of mine got in a nice new blu-ray that we watched. Now this is fucking cinema. Excellent fights, mind-blowing stunts, hysterical laugh out loud bits throughout. Absolutely want to watch the other two.

I Am A Dog: Don Matsuguro's Life: They got Yasuo Yamada, the original voice of Lupin, to play Lupin but a dog, basically. An entertaining movie about talking dogs for kids, but has a few bits that are maybe a little too brutal or intense for the target audience. My favorite role besides Yamada was definitely Toshio Furukawa as a loveable little scamp.

California Crisis: Probably not "good", by any real standard, but I had fun with it. Some good chase sequences, definitely really and truly feels like it's set in California in a lot of entertaining ways. Has something of a non-ending, but I think that's more of a riff on sci-fi alien encounter movies of the time, than anything.

Anime: Metallic Rouge, Soaring Sky Precure, Dungeon Meshi, Shangri-La Frontier, Freiren (few episodes behind), Bang Bravern.

Going to start: Pon no Michi, Synduality S2, probably something else I'm forgetting.

Manga: Skip and Loafer (only just started v.1), Hokuto no Ken (need to buy a copy of vol.9)

Going to start: I swear I'm going to get into Berserk this year. I have the first three omnibuses.

Video games: A lot in progress, not sure what I'm going to play next.

SpaceX Crew-7, the next group of four astronauts, are now on board the International Space Station, and this diverse crew is definitely putting “International” in the ISS. The new crew hails from four different countries: the US, Denmark, Japan and Russia. There will be 11 people on board the station for a few days before the Crew-6 foursome head back to Earth. NASA has at least 200 science experiments and technology demonstrations queued up for Crew-7[‘s six months space, many of which will help prepare for the upcoming Artemis missions. Crew-7 arrived on Sunday, August 27 aboard the SpaceX Dragon Endurance spacecraft, which launched at 3:27 a.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 26, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  The crew includes NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov. Mitsuko Mito, Chiyo Nobu, and Eijiro Tono in Jubilation Street (Keisuke Kinoshita, 1944) Cast: Ken Uehara, Mitsuko Mito, Chiyo Nobu, Eijiro Tono, Makoto Kobori, Choko Iida. Screenplay: Kaoru Morimoto. Cinematography: Hiroshi Kusuda. There's a kind of quiet desperation in the patriotism on display in Keisuke Kinoshita's Jubilation Street. Kinoshita could not have ignored the censors' demands for the flag-waving ending and the vows to revenge the death of one of the central characters, but maybe it's only postwar hindsight that makes me feel that his heart wasn't in it. Or maybe he was more interested in his characters than in manipulating them to serve the war effort. The titular street is condemned to be torn up by the military for unspecified wartime purposes, but the longtime residents are at first not thrilled by being dislocated to serve their country. The film depicts their struggle to hold on as long as they can, some out of stubbornness, like the bathhouse owner who doesn't want to leave a place where he has run his business for so long -- though he has to admit, when someone reminds him, that he won't have any customers after all the other neighbors leave. And some, like Kiyo Furukawa (Chiyo Nobu), want to remain for more deeply personal reasons: She's afraid that if the husband who left her and their son, Shingo (Ken Uehara), so many years ago suddenly decides to return he won't be able to find them. Shingo is already doing his part in the war as a test pilot, but he has also fallen in love with the pretty Takako (Mitsuko Mito), whose family wants her to enter into an arranged marriage. They are afraid that separation will prove fatal to their love. The plot then takes a predictable turn: Shingo's father (Eijiro Tono) returns, though Kiyo has misgivings about resuming their marriage when she learns how many varied jobs he has held over the years, an indicator that the instability that caused him to leave is still a problem. But then an event -- one that most filmgoers will have predicted on their own -- alters everything. Good performances aren't enough to lift this early Kinoshita film above routine, but the director's characteristic humanity (and equally characteristic sentimentality) gives it a warmth that even the ham-fisted propaganda can't quite obliterate.
