Neil Young & The Transband - Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, West Germany, October 11, 1982
Just about 40 years ago, Neil Young was in Europe supporting Trans, one of his weirdest albums with one of his weirdest tours. The beginning of a very weird decade for Neil!
"That was a depressing tour," he told Jimmy McDonough. "Started out to be such a high point, by the end I was goin' 'Oh, fuck.' I lost $750,000. It cost me seven-hundred-and-fifty grand — and we sold out every show. It was just too big. Way too big."
Musically, though? Not too bad, as this audience tape from West Germany shows. Neil had assembled a motley crew of players from various stages in his career: Ben Keith, Nils Lofgren, Bruce Palmer, Joe Lala, Ralph Molina, Larry Cragg, Joel Bernstein. Sound-wise, it's actually kind of a precursor to Promise of the Real — and not just because of the bongos. This band can kind of handle everything Neil does, from shaggy country rock to blown-out epics. The glorious spirit of Crazy Horse isn't quite there, but that's probably because of the giant stadiums they were playing.
Also, the Transband were a little out of it. "They had to be so fuckin' drunk and stoned just to walk out onstage," David Briggs complained. "I'd say to 'em, 'Man, you guys should get yourself a new fucking gig if gotta get this fucking twisted to go out in front of twenty-five thousand and be adored.'"
And how about those Trans electronic tunes? Well, they're pretty solid — but the crowd hates them. Not sure how many tapes I've heard where Neil Young gets booed, but he definitely gets booed here. What, these Dortmundians weren't Kraftwerk fans?! Come on, dudes.
One final note: a rarity here is the performance of the featherweight blues number "Soul of a Woman." Except I checked Sugar Mountain and it's not really a rarity at all — Neil played this song 162 times between 1982 and 1988. He played it with the Transband, he played it solo, he played it with the International Harvesters, he played it with the Bluenotes! But he didn't release it officially until 2011 (On the Int'l Harvesters comp A Treasure). I don't have anything valuable to say about this except: Neil Young, what a kook.

The truth is out there in surprisingly procedural threequel The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) #Review
Having come to THE CONJURING universe quite late, and taken a rather haphazard approach to watching them (I think ANNABELLE COMES HOME might have been my very first), it’s taken me a while to realise that I seem to enjoy the movies which remind me of something else more than the others. I enjoyed THE NUN’s twisted take on SCOOBY-DOO, for example, and THE CONJURING 2 gave me strong SAPPHIRE &…

Man, they weren't playin They sure put those cuffs on quick You tried to sweet talk 'em They didn't fall for it, but I did
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Regret was the only word that wasn’t apart of JJ’s vocabulary. Whatever he did, he did with purpose. With reason. With pride. And he never regretted a damn thing, even after some Kook had called the cops on him for pulling a gun on Topper at the Boneyard.
JJ didn’t even have the chance to run as he’d been surrounded by three different police vehicles. Trying to fight law enforcement wasn’t the brightest idea either, as he now was sporting a busted lip, bruised ribs, and a torn white shirt.
In the back of the cop car, JJ sat with his head against the driver’s seat headrest, his blonde hair sticking out in every which way. The cops had done a number on him, and every time the car drove over a bump in the road, the pain in JJ’s ribs would start up again. Biting his lip, he tried to redirect his thoughts away from the pain.
“Where’d you get the gun, son?” asked Officer Shoupe. Chuckling softly to himself, JJ shook his head. There was no way in hell he would open his mouth. The cops in the OBX couldn’t be trusted. JJ learned that the hard way. “I said, where did you get the gun?”
“I have the right to remain silent,” JJ reminded, lips pulling into a smirk as Shoupe and his partner, Deputy Thomas shared an irritated look. “Ain’t that what you told me?”
“You keep actin’ out, you’ll end up just like your daddy,” Thomas remarked, hoping to rile up the sixteen-year-old boy. It didn’t though. After enduring years of abuse from his father, JJ became desensitized to comments about his dad. Letting things roll off his shoulders was better than dwelling on feelings and trying to make sense of them, at least in JJ’s mind.
“Hold on, Thomas,” Shoupe said, quieting his partner as he turned up the volume on the radio. Leaning forward, JJ could only hear bits of the dispatcher.
Robbery at Denny’s…unarmed female…seventeen…black tank top, white shorts…
Shoupe and Thomas eyed each other momentarily before pulling into the Denny’s parking lot which they had been conveniently driving by. Shoupe put the car in park before turning around, “This ain’t gonna take long. Don’t try anything stupid.”
JJ snickered as the two officers stepped out of the vehicle. “No promises, buddy.”
Not even five minutes later, JJ’s head perked up at the commotion out front of Denny’s. Almost instantly, his cheeks flushed a deep red as Deputy Thomas pushed you into the car, slamming the door behind him. JJ happily drank in the sight of you, slightly embarrassed that his cargo shorts had constricted. “Well, well, well, what do we have here? What’s your name, baby?”
Clenching your jaw, you eyed the smirking blonde beside you. JJ Maybank. The devilishly handsome Pogue with anger management problems and daddy issues. He was notorious for smoking weed, fishing, and stealing. What kind of trouble had he gotten himself into this time?
“Y/N,” Not wanting to make small talk with a known criminal, you leaned forward toward Deputy Thomas. “Officer, is this really necessary?”
“You stole from the store,” Thomas answered.
“It was a candy bar,” you retorted, wriggling your wrists in the handcuffs. “And I said I was going to pay for it, I just didn’t have enough cash.”
“Then you shouldn’t have taken it,” JJ piped up, flashing a bright smile. “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime, princess.”
“It was for a child,” you said, teeth gritted together. “I was waiting for my brother to bring me a dollar.” As both officers ignored you, you leaned in closer, softening your voice. “Look, I really am sorry, okay? The little girl was upset and I just wanted to see her smile. This is all just one big misunderstanding.”
JJ eyed you curiously when you shot a wink his way. For a brief moment, his pulse quickened. Were they actually going to let you go?
“Sorry, kid,” Shoupe replied. Groaning, you sat back against the seat, your attempt at sweet-talking the officers one big failure.
“I’ll be damned,” JJ laughed, causing you to let out your own. “You had me fooled.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But there was somethin' bout the way The blue lights were shinin' Bringing out the freedom in your eyes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JJ was captivated. The whole way to the station, his eyes stayed glued to your face, which was solemnly pressed up against the window. The black bandana around your head kept the curls away from your cheeks, giving JJ the chance to appreciate your beauty. You were stunning, no doubt about that, but there was something about the way the bright blue cop lights brought out a twinkle in your eyes that kept JJ staring. He could almost see through you, into your free-spirited soul. You weren’t a Pogue, but your personality didn’t scream Kook either. You were somewhere in the middle, and JJ was overcome with a sudden itch to get to know you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We talked, we laughed We sat real close By the time they let us go I was already gone
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Wait, you brought a gun to a party?” You asked, rolling your eyes as JJ gave you a proud nod. “Are you insane?”
“Insane is my middle name,” JJ gloated. “And besides, the douche had it coming. He tried to drown my best friend. That shit won’t fly with me. And apparently,” JJ nodded toward the two officers, “Bringing a gun to a party doesn’t exactly fly with asshole 1 and 2 up front either or else I wouldn’t be here.”
You giggled as Shoupe and Thomas exchanged irritated glances, clearly fed up with JJ’s antics. Turning back to JJ, you noticed he wasn’t trying to hide his staring. “What? Do I have something on my face?”
“Not my lips, sadly,” Warmth crept up your neck as JJ laughed, running his tongue along his lower lip. “Sorry, it’s just…I can’t help but think you and I come from two different worlds. Here I am being arrested for possession of a weapon, and you’re being arrested for having a heart of gold.”
Your heart skipped a beat as JJ offered a shy smile. Boldly, you scooted closer to him, resting your head on his shoulder. He didn’t seem to mind though, as his cheek lay against the top of your head, staying in that position until you arrived at the police district.
You were let go almost immediately, but JJ had a harder time of convincing the officers to let him go. After twenty minutes, JJ was able to talk himself out of jail time. How he did it, he was clueless, but he wasn’t going to dwell on it. Instead, he ran out of the district as fast as he could, almost colliding with you.
“They let you go?” Grinning, JJ grabbed you in a hug. “How in the hell did you pull that off?”
JJ set you down before massaging his wrists. “Don’t ask questions, baby, just be glad I did.”
“Well,” you said, hands slapping against your thighs, “It’s been quite an adventure, but it looks like it’s the end for us.”
Pushing his hands deep in his pockets, JJ stepped forward, a gleam in his eyes. “It doesn’t have to be.”
“What?” your brows furrowed. “What are you talking about?”
“I want to see you again,” JJ admitted. He was smitten with you, and if he were being honest, he didn’t want the night to end. Your smile was beautiful, your laugh was contagious, and you had a sense of freedom that drew JJ closer to you. “What do you say?”
With a new sense of confidence, you grabbed JJ’s hand, pressing a quick kiss to his bruised cheek. Smirking, you looked at the troubled boy who, if you learned anything about him that night, was a sweetheart under all the rough layers. “What kind of trouble are we getting into next?”
THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT (2021)
Screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.
Directed by Michael Chaves.
Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. 112 minutes. Rated R.
There are two problems with the latest Conjuring movie having the arch subtitle The Devil Made Me Do It. First off there is the basic storyline problem: the evil entity in this film is not the Devil, it is merely a demon. Second of all, viewers of a certain age (like me!) can’t hear the term “The Devil made me do it” without picturing 1970s comedian Flip Wilson flouncing around in a dress and a wig as his popular character of Geraldine. That mental picture makes it hard to take the movie all that seriously.
The title isn’t the only blatant 1970s reference in the third Conjuring film (although the action in the film actually takes place in 1981). An early prologue scene is obviously meant to bring to mind the much better fright film The Exorcist. This goes right down to the filmmakers quite brazenly reenacting the iconic Exorcist moment where a priest in an overcoat and a hat stands in stark, shadowy silhouette in front of a well-lit home where a small child is in need of an exorcism.
However, as much as the film would like to be a classic horror like The Exorcist, it is really a pretty run-of-the-mill modern scare film – loaded up with sudden jump scares and telling a story that makes little or no sense. It may as well be a carnival haunted house ride – lots of stuff jumping out at you randomly, but with no real narrative spine.
On the very basic, elemental level as a thrill ride, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It kind of worked. I jumped in my seat several times. Some scenes were legitimately scary.
Too bad about that storyline, though.
Like the other two Conjuring films (as well as most of the spinoff movies, including three Annabelle movies, The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona), The Devil Made Me Do It is “based” on a true story in the career of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. (The Warrens were also the lead investigators in real story which became The Amityville Horror, but the Amityville films are not part of the Conjuring Cinematic Universe series of films.)
I put “based” in quotes because the movies obviously take a good deal of cinematic license with the stories. In particular with this film, which despite the chyron claiming it to be a true story is nearly impossible to believe really happened, or at the very least really happened as this film claims it did. Now, all the CCU movies obviously stretch things. Even the first Conjuring, which is the only truly good film in the series, was clearly ratcheting up the scares in quite unrealistic ways.
However, as I sat in my seat in the darkened theater and let The Conjuring 3 wash over me, all too often I found myself thinking, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” That is probably not the reaction that the filmmakers were going for.
The Devil Made Me Do It is “based” on the case of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, the first person in the United States to fight a murder charge with a defense of not guilty due to demonic possession. Now, before you get visions of Law & Order: Special Demons Unit dancing in your head, the actual trial sequences here are pretty short and inconsequential. You can’t really have jump scares in a court room. Well, you could, but it would take some serious finessing…
Instead, the film revolves on how Arne became possessed, how the demon caused Arne to kill his slimy boss (apparently the guy’s complete lack of work ethic, his obnoxiousness, his alcoholism and his insistence on playing classic rock hits at ear-splitting volume was not cause enough), and how the demon then haunts Arne and the Warrens.
Arne was not even the first person to be possessed in the film. That was David, the little boy mentioned above. The Warrens and his family and a priest did an exorcism on the boy which seems like The Exorcist with CGI. The boy’s sister’s fiancé Arne – being the stand-up guy he was – loudly begged the demon to take him instead of the child. Oddly, even though the Warrens, the priest and the family all witnessed this bargain and saw that the child was set free from the possession, everyone (Arne included) takes an awful long time to figure out that maybe the demon took him up on his offer.
Of course, the Warrens were a little distracted. During the rite, Ed had a massive demon-related heart attack and spends the rest of the film on the mend, often winded and in need of his pills. However, eventually the demon-busting couple find that a totem has been left under Arne’s home, and he has apparently been cursed.
They also find that another case where a similar totem was found had recently led to the murder and suicide of two college co-eds. Therefore, the Warrens set out to find who is cursing these young people and what the purpose was. (Strangely, after all the time spent trying to figure out what the connection was between the victims in the two cases, the movie never really does explain.)
There’s more to the tale, of course – and frankly you know that the creepy former priest with a fascination in the occult probably has something to do with the goings-on the second you see him – but none of it really matters. All of it is an excuse to have lots of demons jumping out of the shadows and hallucinations of violence. It’s scary and stupid, all at the same time.
Apparently, the producers of The Conjuring are planning on continuing to do a deep dive into the casebooks of the Warrens to keep spinning off creepy tales for years to come. However, if The Devil Made Me Do It is any indication, the whole enterprise is starting to get pretty threadbare.
Cop Car || JJ x Fem!Reader
Warings: A couple curse words, Maybe like four Fem pronouns, fluffy
Summary: JJ comes home after an encounter with his Dad and you decide to help him
Word Count: 1.2k
A/N: Hi so this is not my first imagine but my first Outer Banks imagine so please be nice!! I had a lot of fun writing this and I hope you enjoy reading it! It is one of my favorites I have made so far! This was inspired by ‘Cop Car’ by Sam Hunt/Keith Urban.
Tumblr media
The Outer Banks, paradise on earth. Well, you could say. It was a lot less than paradise if we were all being honest. But it’s what’s on the outside that counts...right? Maybe that isn’t exactly how the saying goes, but I mean it wouldn’t make much of a difference. You were (Y/N) (Y/L/N), you moved to the Outer Banks two years ago because your mother got a job as an attorney. Your father worked from home on closing deals foreignly. So, yes, you were a kook. But we don’t really talk about that. You were a pogue member and your parents could care less, unlike most adults here they don’t care about what their children do as long as there is no blood and booze. Which you have broken but you're a pogue, what do you expect?
 Everyone had just gotten back from a long boating trip. John B was with Sarah at her house, Pope went to go help his dad, Kiara left so she could check in with her parents, and JJ went to his Dad’s house to pick up some clothes for the week. He was practically living at the Chateau. In a sense it worried us, all the time he spent here, but it also brought comfort knowing he was somewhere safe.
You were laying on the couch sipping a beer and watching Netflix. You could’ve gone home, but your siblings were there and it was quiet here. You almost screamed when you heard the door slam shut from the back. Turning around you saw JJ, it was obvious what had occurred. You didn’t need to say a word getting up to go assist him to the couch. Grabbing some ice and alcohol rub you started cleaning his bruises and mini cuts from the glass. JJ wouldn’t stop squirming from his spot on the couch and it was getting harder for you to clean the cuts safely. “Hey buddy, I’m gonna need you to sit still for a little longer okay?” You said looking into his eyes, only to see fear and pain. He nodded in response and grabbed your hand to steady himself. “Wanna talk about it?” You asked, raising your brow.
“No,” He said flattley, you knew he wanted to but didn’t want to ruin his pride. He was scared and you wanted to help him so bad you just didn’t know how.
 “Wanna go watch the boats from the old lighthouse and relax?” You were trying to distract him at this point.
“Mhm” He said nodding, followed by a hiss from the rubbing alcohol entering a wound.
“Alright we’re all done, why don’t you get up and head to the car and I’ll get some beer and drive us there?” You said heading to the fridge to get him so beer. You didn’t want to drive under the influence so you decided to pass on heavily drinking tonight. Jogging to the car you handed him the beer through the window and went to the drivers side. The ride was silent, JJ was consumed in the houses leading to the lighthouse and you were looking at the road a lot more than you usually do. Not even movements were exchanged until you saw JJ’s eyes widen when he saw the ‘No Trespassing’ sign.
“You know this is private property correct? And I just got bailed out of jail, and..” JJ was cut off by you.
 “Since when did you follow the rules? Hey my parents will do it again and your Dad doesn’t have to know, c’mon live a lil” You said smiling, pulling up beside the lighthouse. You opened up your tailgate and threw some blankets in the back for some warmth, climbing in and motioning for JJ to do the same. He climbed in and you put your head on his chest, while he positioned himself up to drink the beer. It was quiet, but it wasn’t uncomfortable, just two friends looking at the stars one night.
 “He was on drugs again,” JJ mumbled while setting down his first beer, moving onto the second. You wanted to say something but you let him continue. “He was out of control. I almost had to shoot him. He was scratching and biting, not just punches and kicks,” He was silently crying now. Wiping the tears off his face you started saying sweet nothings to him, he continued, “It was like I didn’t even know him...I- I- I didn’t know if I was gonna make it out al…”
“Hey, hey, hey, don't think of it like that. You did and you are so strong for doing so, I’ll buy you new clothes sneak in there myself if I have to so you don’t have to go back you’re safe J. I swear,” You said now cradling him while he sobbed. After a couple minutes you pulled out some water and had him drink it and started pointing out the stars, “That’s the big dipper and that’s some big guys belt and…” You kept pointing the constellations out and explaining them to him while he listened. It felt like you had all night, until the cops pulled up. “Oh shit…”
“Okay this is fine this is great, dandy, (Y/N),” JJ said, you never saw him this scared.
“We should make a run for it, it’ll be a good story” You said smiling and starting to get up but stopping when JJ grabbed your hand.
“You’re crazy as hell,”
“I know” You said beaming but before anything else could be said a cop was yelling. You could tell he was new to the job because he wasn’t calling you dirty pogues and raising his gun.
 “Hands up and move to the side of the vehicle!” He put on the cuffs pretty quick and once they were on taking JJ and putting him in the right side of the cop car.
“Hey, we are just some kids having fun! You know what that’s like! Listen bubba it doesn't take much for me to give you a favor if ya know what I’m sayin,” You said winking at him as he pulled you to the left side of the car. JJ was giving you this death stare to stop but you persisted. After you were in the car and he was reading you your 5th amendment rights you interrupted him, “Thank you officer, truly, I know all of them though my mother is an attorney, however I have a cigar in my back pocket, do you have a light?” You said smirking up at him. It was theoretically legal, considering you were 18, but the cop was having none of it slamming the door and going up the driver's seat. JJ was now laughing his head off, you hadn’t seen him that happy in a long long time. The cop was working on the paper work while you and JJ were in the car playing 20 questions having the time of your lives. You knew that your parents would kill you but that wasn’t really in the front of your mind at the moment, only JJ and the blues cop lights shining, lighting up the night. And to say the least, that night, not only JJ but you fell in love in the back of a Cop Car.
I hope you enjoyed it! You can request soon I promise, Happy Quarantine!
Hi tags!! Today is acceptance day, and it goes until tomorrow at 11:59PM CST/12:59AM EST. We really need more DOMINANT and SWITCH roles above all else, though all marks are welcome to apply!!
We could really use more diverse faces, genders, & sexualities in-game, pretty please! Here are some of my personal faves.
Justice Smith, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Naomi Scott, Darren Criss, Vanessa Morgan, Kaylee Bryant, Amber Riley, Ashleigh Murray, Ailsha Boe, Ajiona Alexus, Alex Newall, Laura Harrier, Jenna Ushkowitz, Emeraude Toubia, Shay Mitchell, Jordan Fisher, Jason Momoa, David Castañeda, Nathalie Emmanuel, Carlos Valdes, and Inbar Lavi.
Our members would lie to see Candice Patton, Lewis Tan, Shannon Kook, Booboo Stewart, Ryan Potter, Giuseppe Maggio, Oscar Issac, John Boyega, Park Chanyeol, Kat Graham, Charles Davis.
Some more ideas would be Olivia Liang, Ritu Arya, Rami Malek, Keith Powers, Daniel Henney, Jessie Williams, Padma Lakshmi, Constance Wu, Ross Butler, Barbie Ferreira, Neelam Muneer, Alia Bhatt, Ahsan Khan, Sofia Carson, China McClain, Theo Graham, Keiynan Lonsdale, Sidharth Malhotra, Kyle Bary.
