My journey with race and my ethnicity has always been complicated. When I was younger, I was very tan. I always looked latino. There was no doubt in my mind of what I was, and I accepted myself. I also have very strong Jewish features, small but round face, big nose, big eyes, etc etc. My mom grew up similarly to me in a way, her mom grew up believing that she was half black. She was very dark, had curly hair, wide features, etc etc. So my mom naturally got a lot of those features. She was always curvy, had big lips, curly hair, darker skin, etc etc. Later in life she took a DNA test, and 100% thought she’d get that she was a quarter black. Well, turns out that she wasn’t a quarter black and was actually Sicilian. Shes just a very dark Sicilian. Which could be rooted in the Arabic roots of Sicilians.
My own experience with race has been also complicated. I got a lot of my mother’s features and a lot of my father’s features. It seemed I didn’t fit in anywhere. I was to dark and “ethnic looking” to be good enough for the white people, and to light and Jewish looking to be good enough for the Hispanic people around me.
I grew up in a very blended family. With people of all races and ethnicities. From two of my sisters being black, to me and my twin being latino, to more. It was just always like that.
My life was filled with culture. When I was involved with my dad’s side of the family I was constantly exposed to the Latino and Jewish culture. It was amazing. My whole family on my dad’s side spoke Spanish so I was exposed to a lot of Hispanic culture. My whole family on my dad’s side was proud to be Hispanic and Jewish. They were just like that.
My own journey with my race and ethnicity is hard. I don’t look not white, but I don’t look white enough. And that’s been my whole life. From microagressions being thrown my way, to the classic “what are you?” Being asked. I’ve seen it all. I’m everyday trying to connect to my roots, but everyday itself is a constant self image battle of “who am I?” “What am I?”
Just some late night thoughts and rambling.

Ok even though it kinda sucks that Oscar Isaac isn’t Jewish because more Jews should play Jews in movies/shows, he apparently has a little Jewish ancestry, and it’s really fucking cool that one of the biggest shows in the world right now has a Jewish Latino main character (Moon Knight)

People discussing Israel's racist policies and Israel's policy of fucking over non Rabbinic communities and fucking up the transmission of diaspora cultures (such as the teaching of languages) is not the time to go "we don't need gentiles in our intracommunity politics". Foundational to Israel is "maintaining a Jewish majority". These communities are attacked in lathe part because they are seen as not being as Jewish as White, Ashkie, Western European Jews (with respect to how Eastern European Jews are also often mistreated), or their Judaism is otherwise seen as deficient. The maintenance of this majority is also why Palestinians generally, cannot really get an Israeli citizenship, even if they wanted to, and sometimes even if they can prove they are of Jewish descent. "Who is a Jew and what is a Jewish culture" is a constructed boundary: for the past 70 odd years it has been a boundary used for violence. If you want anti-zionists to have politics informed by the needs of Jews, they must be party to these discussions.
#cipher talk#Also seeing a post like 'talking about racism in Israel feels bad bc it casts Ashkenazim as evil elites imo'#(Person saying this WAS white AFAIK and that's very funny given not all Ashkenazim are white- and most posts I've seen#Are made by Jews or POC focusing on whiteness more than 'Ashkienormativity')#Then seeing a post like 'I don't believe you care about Yiddish if you only use it to attack Hebrew >:(' is nuts#Which is it do 'gentiles' care too much about Ashkenazi culture and use it as a weapon or do they pick on them as the acceptable group of#'Bad jews' (as people like to put it)?#And ngl any white person pulling this right now definitely doesn't care that much about JOC normally. If they did they'd let them say when#They're uncomfortable lmao because thar is the point of reference you need when discussing racism here#Otherwise you're just doing the 'white person shuts down conversation about racism because they feel upset' thing that everyone does#Including gentiles. Including gentiles who belong to groups (like white Latinos white Irish and Scottish people etc) who have faced#Marginalisation discrimination and genocide#And if you as a white person aren't doing that that tells me you either don't care to pay attention or you don't talk to JOC#So you don't know when JOC are actually uncomfortable and a lime is being crossed#And that's pretty bad because there's quite a few Mizrahim who are aggressive Zionists lmao and would love for you to use them as shield

The Other Lesson of the Pedro Gonzalez Expose
The internet is atwitter reading a lengthy expose in Breitbart (of all places) detailing the long history of antisemitic and racist comments from major Ron DeSantis booster Pedro Gonzalez. The source is a bit funny -- the impetus very clearly is some internal Trump-on-DeSantis violence (Breitbart is decidedly in the former camp).
The stuff is very blatant (when snips about the "Rothschild physiognomy" are the public comments, you know it's bad). Of course, none of it has stopped Gonzalez from being embraced by the usual suspects on the Jewish far-right, like Josh Hammer, who defended Gonzalez on the striking grounds that, well, he's really racist to a lot of people so the antisemitism doesn't stand out (Gonzalez has been a regular contributor at Newsweek under the dominion of Hammer and Batya Ungar-Sargon).
All of this is the usual combination of amusing and terrifying that typifies every story about right-wing infighting over increasingly brazen bigotry. But there is one other element I want to flag here that likely will be missed by most: the soaring levels of antisemitism one finds amongst minority and especially Latino conservatives, specifically. Gonzalez is an avatar of that trend, one that has been underappreciated in broader discourse. Once again, antisemitism is a huge growth opportunity for the GOP in minority communities -- not because most minorities are antisemitic, but because the subset of minorities most likely to be flipped by GOP appeals, specifically, is disproportionately antisemitic.

Okay the last one lost traction but I’m still broke, disabled, and trapped in a burrito test failing facility that makes me buy half my own food and water.
TL;DR
For over a year now my initially coming to a grippy socks hotel (mental hospital) has been used by my family to keep me in one, moving me around and trapping me against my will. Look I am mentally ill and I do and did need help. This isn’t helping anymore. My agency has been removed and outside of tumblr and friends there’s no one to help me. I sound like one of those jokes conservatives make “what’s next a queer trans mixed race latino jew that uses a wheelchair?” Yes, I am next and I need help.
I need money for food and my phone bill, and an emergency cost of needing to go to a Indoor Plumbing doctor who takes ftm patients which is on the other side of the city.
Unfortunately that’s going to be about 470.
Please pass this around or lend a dollar or two if you can <3

FYI any character can be Jewish if u believe hard enough. They live in the distant future? Jews in space babeyyyy. They live in Magical Fantasy Land? Half those places have pseudo-christianity anyway; why not toss in some Jews? They're Black, or Latino, or Native American? Jews come in all shapes and sizes. Listen to me. It's okay. All your favorite characters are Jewish now.

Goyim is a slur.
Dos ken nor a goy - Something only a goy would do or is capable of doing.[25]
A goy blabt a goy - "A goy stays a goy," or, less literally, according to Rosten, "What did you expect? Once an anti-Semite always an anti-Semite."[25]
Goyisher kopf - "Gentile head," someone who doesn't think ahead, an idiot.[25][26]
Are you okay with Latinos calling Americans "gringos"?
Or do you just have a problem when Jews have a word for those who aren't Jewish, and yes, sometimes use that word to vent their frustrations with said people. Literally it's no different than the phrase "white people things". Unless of course, you think that's offensive too, in which case you're beyond anything I as a lone Tumblr user can do. Also it's "antisemite", not "anti-semite", but I think you know that and just don't care.

This is a reminder that we Jews do have progressive allies. Ritchie Torres is a Democratic Congressman from the Bronx. He is also the first openly gay Afro-Latino Congressperson.
I recommend that Jews and non-Jewish people who support Jews watch this.
And for the depraved, bigoted, Jew-hating morons who have been sending me death threats for the last six months, you fuckers NEED to watch this. And you need to educate your damn fool selves.

I am fully on Israel and the Jews side during this war; but omg some of the hardcore Jewish leftists. I want to say I feel frustrated but I actually feel so bad for them. I saw a post where a christian girl was expression how stupid and evil she found Christians being antisemitic, and the post got full of people saying stuff like “but christianity is inherently antisemitic! It’s built into the very fabric ! It and you are always going to be antisemitic!” Like saying that on a post where someone is literally condemning hatred in their own community is ????? The whole “I have decided you are a bigot and can never stop being a bigot” talking point has always been one of my least favorites. And the posts I’ve seen where leftists Jews are expressing how terrible it is that Jews are now being seen as white, and they acknowledge that it’s being used to excuse any and all hatred towards them, and how they need to get people to realize they are a middle easter group. Which yes, you guys aren’t white, you are middle easterners; but shouldn’t this be making some of ya’ll question the whole notion on the left that white=bad and that’s it’s not okay to categorize different people in that way? It’s just sad to see so many of them going through the utter betrayal they have but are still clinging to the super left way of thinking and just seem totally lost. And I’m not even saying to go right; but to at least acknowledge that maybe the whole black and white “white straight Christian American=Bad Everyone Else=good” rhetoric was always going to go bad for anyone who peddled it? It happened to Asians too in recent years. And I’m absolutely not trying to say this is a Jewish thing, just a far leftist thing, because I can remember all the Jews (and Asians, and Latinos, etc,) who were really trying to sound the alarm that once they lost their place on the oppression hierarchy, a lot of these far leftists treat the minority groups they used to champion even worse than how they treat white people. I don’t know. I just feel sick to my stomach seeing all these people feel so heartbroken and betrayed by what they considered their close friends and community. I just wish this didn’t have to happen to them this way.
It really is sad watching it happen. It should be a lesson to them of the dangers of playing so hard into identity politics. It's an inherently bad way of approaching situations and they approach every situation that way. Wars are a little more complex than this skin color = good and that skin color = bad but they've let their brains get so damaged by that way of thinking over the years that they're really going to have to put in the work to change and I just don't see that happening.
It's such a shame.

Gay and lesbian transphobes have the same energy as Jews for Hitler and Latinos for Trump.
Like oh hahahahaha you think being transphobic like a god-fearing Christian will save you when the time comes?
You think cozying up with the evangelicals will make them like gays?
You think your undocumented wife is excluded from Trump's deportation policies, just because you voted for Trump?
I wonder how that worked for Jews for Hitler.
Maybe we should Google it.

I was relating it to something so know. YOU do not want to risk living in a majority Arab or Muslim country because of past actions, you point to these actions as proof that you need to have a form of control over them. So you are okay with their murder. You are okay with the fact that you moved yourselves onto their land and kicked them out. You are okay with the fact that you basically have them behind a militarized wall. Going through all that does not mean you are incapable of doing the same. Or that just because you have not done the exact same or the same amount of time that your actions are not bad. I am ethnically Jewish (not practicing) tho it’s not significant enough in my life for me to claim it as a cultural identity on my father’s side and my step father is Jewish but he’s now anti-religion (He’s on Israel’s side). My cultural upbringing… well I’m a poc and I spent years going to Holocaust memorials, I learned Jewish customs, our family friends were Jewish, and I read Jewish stories/watched the films. Media consumption? All the media I’ve consumed said that Palestinians where the problem because they refused to accept Israel and that Muslims where all terrorists (I grew up post 911). At no point did I ever say I was okay with the massacre of Jewish people or that it was understandable. I feel fine being critical of what you tell me because I know you aren’t saying the whole truth. You are still playing the role of the perfect victim. Everything has been done to you and you have done nothing back.
just because you have not done the exact same or the same amount of time that your actions are not bad
The amount of history that this sentence attempts to wave away.... No. No, that simply won't do.
I showed you dozens of examples of centuries of torture, oppression, and massacres of Jews in Arab / Muslim societies, culminating in the complete and recent destruction of 3,000-year-old Jewish civilization in all MENA countries, and you just breeze by them with no real consideration at all. You have repeatedly mentioned slave revolts because the slaves had good reason to defend themselves. Does the need for self-defense vanish when it's Jewish self-defense? Why can you tolerate violence in slave uprisings, but not in Jews trying to prevent their extermination? Cut us, maybe we don't bleed.
Your final comment of "Everything was done to you, you have done nothing back" likewise disregards the lopsided history and unequal stakes of oppression and loss. There are exactly zero countries where Arabs or Muslims have been reduced to nothing and their histories ended by Jews. Israel has a 20% Arab minority, in most MENA countries you can't even find 20 Jews. Israel is the only regional country that has any diversity, pluralism, and tolerance, instead of an unnatural Nebraska-cornfield ethnic monoculture. How much structural racism, how much systematic violence and hate, does a country need to have for it to EVEN BE POSSIBLE to physically wipe out a minority? With all of America's fucked-up racial problems, do you think they could physically push out the African-Americans or Latinos today if they wanted to? Yet you look at the Middle East and, one after another, the Jews are gone, the Jews are gone, the Jews are gone. You say you are not okay with Jewish massacres, well, I'm glad to hear that, but you don't seem to appreciate that those were the actual stakes. If your enemy says their goal is your extinction, and you survive, then yeah, maybe you do put up a wall and they have to stay on their side of it. Boo and furthermore hoo.
As for "being okay with murder" - forget slave revolts, I'm certainly fine with abolishing slavery altogether and I suspect you are too. That required killing over 600,000 people in 4 years. The combined all-sides grand total death count of the Zionist / Arab conflict is about 120,000 in 140 years. Are you "okay" with the American Civil War taking place, even though Lincoln suspended habeas corpus and all the other imperfect, morally compromised things Confederate LARPers complain about?
Overall I detect a strongly binary way of thinking, that Jewish people / institutions can only be seen as worth physical protection if they are perfect, if they have never harmed anyone, even if the options the world presents to us are Jewish people / institutions as they are or their continued, repeated disappearance. You were never promised better Jews or a better Israel, and you may not shift the goalposts on how we resist those who would repeat our genocide. I am fully comfortable in saying we are morally superior to our enemies. The fact that we still have living enemies proves that.
