Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Format: Hardcover and Audiobook from Libby Author: Laura Dave Narrator: Rebecca Lowman Publisher: Simon & Schuster Somewhere towards the midpoint of the novel, the protagonist, Hannah Hall realizes that the man who had courted her 2.5 years back and had narrated his journey from Newton, Massachusetts to moving across the country with his daughter, after losing his wife in a car accident- the Owen Michael's she fell in love and married doesn't exist. This after one fateful morning when Owen disappears leaving Hannah in charge of protecting his 16 years old teenage daughter, Bailey- but from whom? The story could very well have been a thriller trying to uncover Owen’s dark secrets but where the author succeeds is slowly building the relationship bridge between a daughter and her Step-mother in their journey from Sausalito to Austin. The eventual payoff at the end is equally satisfying. Rebecca Lowman’s narration deserves a special mention since she conveys the throws of a rebellious Bailey and the angst of Hannah, trying to control the pain of her husband’s departure and trying to protect her daughter from the unknowns- both with equal gusto. The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave is a story about trusting your instincts and family. Hannah moved across the country to marry Owen Michaels- his sixteen year old daughter, Bailey, hasn’t been too welcoming to her new stepmother. One day Hannah and Bailey’s world is upended- Owen’s boss has been arrested, Owen has vanished but did send an ominous note to Hannah saying “Protect her.” The FBI and US Marshal’s offices are searching for Owen and questioning his involvement in his boss’s business dealings. Hannah quickly realizes that she doesn’t know Owen all that well, but that Bailey may know more than she is aware of. Sunshine est une jeune femme entrepreneur, célèbre sur YouTube avec sa chaîne de cuisine “A little Sunshine”. A trente-cinq, tout lui réussi : un mari aimant, une carrière sur les chapeaux de roues, des millions de fans, des sponsors à gogo. Mais à jour, tout ce petit bonheur virtuel s’effondre : un anonyme dévoile la supercherie : elle n’est pas cuisinière pour un sou, sa biographie est entièrement fausse et, en plus, elle est infidèle.Une longue déroute commence pour Sunshine. Où partir quand le monde illusoire nous lâche et que l’on a snobé notre famille depuis plusieurs années ? C’est un roman sur les faux-semblants des réseaux sociaux et le paraître : ce qu’on est réellement et ce qu’on dévoile aux autres. La vraie vie est facile à travestir à travers une photo à l’angle bien choisi. Sans prétention, ce roman est juste et le thème parfaitement dans l’air du temps. C’est bien écrit et réaliste ! Le personnage est détestable au début mais sa rédemption en est d’autant plus belle !
