Here’s the thing I loved about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It truly shocked me. Here’s the thing I hated about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It’s rooted in absolute truth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you haven’t read this book and don’t to be spoiled, don’t read this caption. A few twists of this book are revealed… If you do want to be spoiled….. . . . . . TW: Homophobia, Breast Cancer
This book would not exist had it not been for the true reality of homophobia. But because it exists and because queer people have lived this tortured existence, it makes it THAT much more heartbreaking to read. I could not stop thinking, “someone somewhere went through this much pain just because they loved.” Evelyn Hugo is not a fictional character (I mean she is)… but someone has lived and died as her, we just don’t know it… or maybe you do. Someone you love is scared. Someone you love is lgbt+. 🥺 @tjenkinsreid, who hurt you? The fact that Evelyn used her body to get what she wanted and people constantly made comments about her breasts, in which you then have her dying of BREAST CANCER? Are you kidding me? What she felt saved her ultimately is what is killing her? You’re cruel ma’am. This book is going in the corner so it can think about what it’s done. 🤬 🏷: #TheSevenHusbandsOfEvelynHugo #TaylorJenkinsReid #AdultFiction #Bookstagram #SimonAndSchuster @simonandschuster #Bookish #Boosktagrammer #LGBTBooks #LGBTBookstagram #QueerBooks #FiveStarBook #BookRecommendation #PrideMonth #Pride #LGBTReads #EvelynHugo #AnnotatedBooks #BookdAndNature (at Saint Joseph, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfABoxYgnCR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My current print read is my ARC of @ahoffmanwriter #theinvisiblehour. She already had me at the poignant author note that opens the book. The novel is woven around Hawthorne’s #thescarletletter. It’s a fascinating story about the power of words and how readers and writers affect one another. #atriabooks #august2023 #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #simonandschuster https://www.instagram.com/p/CqRG2zHryux/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Adam Silvera - The First to Die at the End - Hardcover @adamsilvera #adamsilvera #theybothdieattheend #collectorsedition @simonandschuster #simonandschuster Simon & Schuster Wie heeft dit boek al gelezen? In NL of Engels? Wat vond je er van? ............ Inhoud: In this prequel to #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon They Both Die at the End, two new strangers spend a life-changing day together after Death-Cast first makes their fateful calls. It’s the night before Death-Cast goes live, and there’s one question on everyone’s mind: Can Death-Cast actually predict when someone will die, or is it just an elaborate hoax? Orion Pagan has waited years for someone to tell him that he’s going to die. He has a serious heart condition, and he signed up for Death-Cast so he could know what’s coming. Valentino Prince is restarting his life in New York. He has a long and promising future ahead and he only registered for Death-Cast after his twin sister nearly died in a car accident. Orion and Valentino cross paths in Times Square and immediately feel a deep connection. But when the first round of End Day calls goes out, their lives are changed forever—one of them receives a call, and the other doesn’t. Though neither boy is certain how the day will end, they know they want to spend it together…even if that means their goodbye will be heartbreaking. Told with acclaimed author Adam Silvera’s signature bittersweet touch, this story celebrates the lasting impact that people have on each other and proves that life is always worth living to the fullest. ............ #instabook #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookstagramnl #bookstagrammers #instaboek #boekstagram #boekenwurm #booktrovert #books #reading #dutchbookstagram #bookmail #boekenpost #lezenisleuk #goldfoilcover #goldfoil #dutchbookstagrammers #dutchbookstagrammer https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpav6gHrl2Y/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

♦️5-STAR REVIEW♦️ The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson. Full review at http://www.thechaiseandlounge.com ❤️‍🩹This story just moved me so much because of the authenticity in the author’s storytelling. The characters and their journey were so compelling that I couldn’t stop reading their tale until the last page. I had to keep reminding myself that this story was set in the 1950-60’s because it was upsetting to be immersed in the plight of women, especially black women and their lack of options in education, love and healthcare options. The story weaves together the lives of a high school student named Ruby and a college student named Eleanor Quarles. While their family situations differ, both women are set upon a path that differed from their own choosing because they fell in love with a man outside their own circle/social class. The consequences are devastating but they eventually rose above like the Phoenix. The author’s ability to elicit emotions while educating the reader in reminds me of the Beverly Jenkins. I learned so much and felt so much at the same time. Can I say Intestinal Fortitude!!!! The characters were so well developed that the reader quickly becomes invested in their journey. I was rooting for these strong black women to achieve their educational goals because I knew that would be the truth vehicle to their upward mobility. I cried for them and cheered for them. At the end, I was so proud of them because they felt like me (if I lived in the 50’s). Thank you Sadeqa Johnson for this story and I am truly hoping to see it as a movie! It deserves to be told in a grand way. Just like the Yellow Wife, this will be one of my top reads of 2023. I LOVE THIS BOOK! #bookreview #thehouseofeve #sadeqajohnson #historicalfiction #blackhistoricalfiction #africanamericanfiction #lovedthisbook #netgalley #simonandschuster https://www.instagram.com/p/CpBPaNzvcHs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Grand rising grammers. It’s the first Sunday in December, so the year is rapidly coming to a close, and that means I will soon be posting my FABULOUS FIVE of 2022. I call them Andre’s Aces. I’ve settled on four and I’m torn on the fifth. Anyhoo, as always, stay tuned to this account. *************************** Let’s get on to SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT! And, listen. Hear me good on this one. Plan your preorders now. This book drops in March and you don’t want to miss it! What did I think you ask?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I ✍🏾. Just extremely well executed. Drop of history due to her diligent research and a tough look at young women who are seemingly out of options. Is there a way to provide a safety net for these children. After reading The House of Eve, your imagination will awaken and possibilities will abound. Sadeqa Johnson makes the story of Eleanor and Ruby come alive with pitch perfect pacing and effortless prose. It’s a beautifully rendered novel that is extremely easy to fall into and find a rhythm. I don’t want to get into plot points and spoil it for potential readers, just know that as Eleanor and Ruby’s stories unfold in alternating chapters you can feel their lives will intersect and when Ruby is on her way to DC from Philadelphia, the only mystery is how these two women will cross into each other. The way Sadeqa Johnson builds this story and constructs the bridge from Ruby to Eleanor is simply extraordinary. Sadeqa exhibits all the tools of an accomplished novelist and deserves to be mentioned among the best writing today. I urge all who are reading this to mark their calendar for March 7, 2023 and get this book. Thanks to Simon & Schuster and Edelweiss an advanced reading copy. #thehouseofeve #sadequajohnson #simonandschuster #ownvoicesreviews #bookpusher #pushingbooksainteasy #bookblogger #bookreviewer #sundayspotlight #readologist #whodoesitbetter? #blackbibliophile #blackbooksmatter #readmorebooks (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/Clv-qTGLD6n/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Some brightness in the dull gloomy rainy days- Thank you @bookofthemonth for the #octoberbotm. My BOTM picks include Sign here- a dark humor themed debut novel by Claudia Lux- this one is about Peyote Trip looking for his promotion in Hell but only if he gets one member from the wealthy Harrison Family to sell their sole!! Absolutely twisted but a quirky Halloween read. As Long as the Lemon Grow- by another debutant Zoulfa Katouh. This one is about an average Syrian teenager Salama, torn between her desire for freedom and her morality and her resolve to keep the fire of hope alive. The reviews have been nothing short of great for this one! And Lastly, Chloe Gong’s Four Lady Fortune- taking us back to 1931 Shanghai with a fascinating protagonist in Rosalind who cannot age and cannot die. A spy themed book, this is book 1 of the author’s new duology- definitely a must have! What’s your pick for the month? #bookofthemonth #signhere #darkhumor #spythriller #foulladyfortune #asthelemongrows #youngadult #contemporary #fiction #chloegong #claudialux #zoulfakatouh #penguinrandomhouse #simonandschuster #hachette #bookrecommendations #halloween https://www.instagram.com/p/CjWZqCGrm5J/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Night Ship by Jesse Kidd is based on the historical event on a shipwreck off the coast of Australia in the 1600s. "It's 1629 and a newly orphaned girl named Mayken is sent to her father in the Dutch East Indies on the ship, Batavia. She spends her time searching the ship for a mythical monster. But true monsters are closer than she thinks. In 1989 after his mother dies, Gil is sent to live with his grandfather on an island off the coast of Australia with the seasonal fishing community. There he discovers the story of an infamous shipwreck." Kidd goes back and forth between Mayken and the events that led up to the shipwreck and the conflict surrounding Gil and his grandfather. There are lots of vivid characters from Kidd both on the ship and in the fishing village. And lots of awful characters. Both kids, Mayken and Gil, are struggling with the aftermath of their mothers' deaths. And Gil has some other things going on because of what's happened to him growing up. Mayken's story leads up to the sinking of the ship (not a spoiler, it's known in the first pages) Gil's is different. Lots of struggle and misunderstandings with the other people on the island. If you liked Things in Jars you'll probably like the writing in this one, but this is not a feel-good story. More of a slow-building story for people who enjoy complex characters. #thenightship #jessekidd #atriabooks #simonandschuster #magicalrealism #thingsinjars #historicalfiction #dualtimelines #bookstagram #bookshelves #booknerd #readinglife #bookwormlife #sodacityreads #bookworm #suspensebook #bookhaul #literarycrimefiction #homelibrary #thrillerbooks #domesticthriller #crimefiction #thriller #characterdrivenbooks #mysterythriller #bookrecs (at Batavia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjQBaE2rmUM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

If you ever wanted historical fiction that covers the Holocaust as well as Japanese-American internment camps, this is the book for you. Book Review…Gilded Mountain by Kate Manning Gilded Mountain is set in Moonstone, Colorado, a mining town and is a story about Sylvie Pelletier as she recounts her life and the effects of effects of slavery on the Grady family and the work of Mary Harris "Mother" Jones and of the difficult lives of workers and their struggles against the owners of the mines. There were a few great characters in this book! Sylvie is the main character and when we start she is a young woman wanting to do what's right and follow her heart and by the end of the story she has grown into an adult who took charge of her life! Mary Harris Jones wasn't someone I was familiar with but she was another amazing woman! Not accepted as a journalist because she was a woman and she started her own paper. She was a lively character! This book is beautifully written, with rich details that pull you in and make the characters and their lives truly come to life! It's not based on actual events but it is still rich with history. As a reader you can't help but feel the emotions of the people. It's a great historical fiction story about family, justice and equality with some amazing characters and a little bit of romance! Thank you Scribner Books and Kate Manning for sharing this wonderful story with me! #GildedMountain #KateManning #ScribnerBooks #SimonandSchuster #historicalfiction #books #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #reader #newbooks #bookrecommendatiom #booklover #booknerd #igbooks #igreads https://www.instagram.com/p/ChCQxm9st_9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
