!!!! i've always found welding super interesting! sometimes i get videos that pop up online and i'm just like :o even though i have no idea what's going on lmao. when i was still in school a lot of the welding guys would make flowers and whatnot out of metal! but jewelry sounds super neat!

Realizing that Fëanor probably attracted Melkor because Fëanor himself was shunned and hated by the Valar so Melkor felt there was a connection. But there lives were different and Melkor wouldn’t realize that. Melkor was defiant on purpose; he was the prodigal son. He got everything he wanted; the strongest of the valar, the most respected at a point and cherished by eru. Feanor didnt have such privileges. He wasn’t treated well by the valar-ever, no one understood his grief after the death of his mother, no one understood the trauma he went through. And his coping and his need to stand out was going to be seen as otherly and an act of defiance by default. Melkor’s hardships were of his own doing while Fëanor’s for the most part were due to the factors around him that he couldn’t control and that no one wanted to help him control.

Yet, Melkor probably saw similarities and that just attracted him to Fëanor. He felt someone could understand him. He felt that someone knew that pain that he was going through and could relate to that deep rooted hatred of the valor. Yet when Feanor opposed him that admiration turned to hatred and jealousy. And while he thought Feanor would be his salvation and he was not, he ended up taking away the last things that he knew would break Feanor. He stole his silmarils but more importantly he killed finwe. Because he knows that unlike any other elf in valinor, Feanor feels loss and grief—he is the only one who truly cannot move past it. So he hits him where it hurts, just like he felt Feanor hit him where it hurts by opposing him. he never wanted feanor to be his enemy, he wanted feanor to be the one person who understood him.
