New Alien OC Just Dropped
Tumblr media
So in this universe I'm building, all extraterrestrial beings are actually extremely mutated and/or genetically-modified versions of humans and/or other Earthling species. I figured I'd add cat-people since this is humanity making these aliens and there's got to be at least one weeaboo scientist who wanted to make catgirls real.
The Neko race was among the first of the Post-Human races to ever evolve, engineered by an ancient American geneticist who was obsessed with Japanese entertainment. In memory of their founding father, Neko culture and society is based entirely off of anime and tokusatsu.
Like all other post-Humans, Nekos are native English speakers, but they incorporate bastardized Japanese words and phrases into their speech patterns in a way most Earthling-Humans would consider "weeaboo-esque." For example, despite there being no plurals in the Japanese language, Nekos will still pluralize Japanese words. As expected of a culture based entirely off of weeb shit, the recent liberation of Earth and the recovery of Japan has resulted in many Nekos embarking in pilgrimage to the area, only to be hit with a severe case of Paris syndrome as they realize it bears little resemblance to their own anime-derived culture, and there are no English subtitles.

Here is my Comiket haul, for those who may care!
Tumblr media
Arranged on the apartment chabudai for maximum weeb vibes. I won't go through all of them, just note a few to showcase the diversity of things that were on offer. If there is one someone wants a deep dive on, let me know, happy to take photos!
First up, the centerfold star - A Bocchi/Shimo-Kitazawa Fan Celebration doujin in the shape of a vinyl record:
Tumblr media
Its extremely adorable, these guys went all in. It comes in an album case with "tracks", the vinyl-shaped doujin has an A side and a B side with totally different content when flipped, and when you are reading it the text slowly rotates page by page as if you are "playing" the disc.
Tumblr media
Some of it is the circle's thoughts on Bocchi, but more is about their love for the part of Tokyo that Bocchi takes place in, Shimo-Kitazawa, with sections on show-accurate locations and favourite cafes and stores. They even included a map with all of the spots they recommend you visit in the area!
Tumblr media
This one is to me the most "magic of doujin": we all have favourite parts of our cities, and if we sat down could maybe make a map like this. But why would we do that? Who would care? The joint power of a locally-set anime & Comiket, however, makes that personal map into a piece of art people want to own. This piece is pure creativity & passion, and its very special for that - a symbol of doujinshi.
Also one of their members spoke fluent English and aggressively upsold foreigners at the event ^_^ Successfully so! Good job.
For something a little less high concept, this tiny artbook of Rin from Laid-Back Camp as Ghibli characters is adorable:
Tumblr media
A smol kiki, too cute. And look at her as Nausicaa! Full blue and ready to kick ass.
Tumblr media
Its like 5 pages and each page is a gem, great buy.
This next one is a genre of book I really love - the photography/anime composite book focusing on scene locations, starring our girl Haruhi Suzumiya:
Tumblr media
I appreciate how much fun this one has with its concept, lots of cute drawings on the margins; and the photographs are not all Haruhi related, instead it is just the author's own journey put through a Haruhi lens. This book is another great example of how "transformative" these works are, breaking the bounds of their source material.
Tumblr media
"Hey, its me!"
Tumblr media
Okay, now for some extreme Ash-brand doujin - Flowers for Yamada-san, a history doujin about Hiroyoshi Yamada, also known by the name Koji Kawamoto, a manga & magazine editor who played an instrumental part of the lolicon boom of the 1980's:
Tumblr media
He passed away this year, and so this doujin is a memorial to him, an accounting of his influence and role in early manga, a wider discussion of the lolicon boom in general, and its own creative work; sandwiched between essays are comic depictions of moments of his career done in a mimicry the classic loli/bishoujo early 80's style:
Tumblr media
This will of course take some time to read - I am excited to dig into it. As I have mentioned before, I am toying with the idea of a deeper research project on the "lolicon boom"; its, for understandable reasons, extremely neglected in western discourse of the history of anime & manga. But that moral aversion doesn't change how instrumental this period was, so I think a lot of good work could be done documenting and explaining its place. This book was an amazing find to stumble upon, and the creators are extremely well-researched on this period.
Anyway this is probably long enough lol. I did find some ero-doujin as well of course, though very few - as I mentioned, Comiket was a warzone, and I did not 'prep' for that side of things. I laughed at the idea of people doing days of research to prep of their porn buying adventure - I was the fool, they the wise, you absolutely need to do that if that is your goal. It wasn't really mine but I respect it now for sure - and I actually found the Comiket experience sort of liberating on that front, I "get it" now in a way I didn't before.
This is of course a tiny sliver of the book buys from Japan - hopefully I can make a few posts about the rest soon.

The North Star - Part Seven: The Heist - Terry Bruno x Reader (Feat Mike Duarte)
Tumblr media
Welcome to mine and @the-hinky-panda The Bronx universe featuring our favs Terry Bruno & Mike Duarte.
This story takes place several years after 'Blood Out'. Terry still lives in the Bronx and works in Manhatten SVU.
Following on from @the-hinky-panda story 'The Dog' Mike has retired from the NYPD on medical grounds due to seizures causes by the attack. He has a therapy dog called Bono and lives with @the-hinky-panda character Meredith.
Tagging: @mysoulisasunflower @legit9thlunaticwarrior @bbyxoo @the-adzukibean @xoxabs88xox @crazy4chickennuggets @beardedbarba @wooshwastaken @justreblogginfics @im-just-a-mississippi-girl @storiesofsvu @anime-weeb-4-life
Part One: Moments
It was three quarters of the way through your appraisal of the room that you spotted him. That familiar dark hair neatly slicked back from his grizzled features, a black waistcoat over white shirt and black trousers. He was dressed like one of the caterers, a large silver whipped cream canister tucked under his arm as he pulled aside a discreet black velvet curtain at the back of the room and slipped behind it.
Are you fucking kidding me? You thought exasperated. Every time you thought this case couldn’t get any more complicated; something threw a spanner in the works.
A Degas and now a Duarte. Christ, Terry was going to get a kick out of this.
Paul was still occupied on the opposite side of the gallery, his head bent low as he talked with Arthur Munson, the fence and host for the evening. You followed Mike’s footsteps, disappearing behind the curtain before anyone could realise that you were missing.
It took you a second to realise that the room was set up for the auction later tonight. Over a dozen chairs facing a stage that included a podium and a gavel. It was old school, compared to the way it was done these days with computers and electronics. Paul had mentioned that Arthur Munson was a traditionalist. The walls were littered with artwork, a blatant display of the man’s proclivities. You didn’t recognise any of the pieces, but you assumed they were each worth a small fortune. This event tonight was an opportunity to show off, to fortify his reputation as a collector and procurer. A decadent marketing campaign that put his competition to shame.
At the end of the front row, near the stage stood Mike Duarte, his scarred hands covered with black latex gloves as he clasped the frame in front of him and tried to pull it from the wall. It stuck fast, unrelenting as he yanked at it again before huffing with irritation.
“Mike.” You hissed as your gaze came to land on him. “Tell me you aren’t trying to steal that painting.”
“I’m not trying.” He snorted, inclining his head towards you for a moment before turning his attention back to the task at hand. “And I consider it a liberation.”
You stepped up to the painting as he withdrew a scalpel from his waistcoat pocket. It glinted wickedly in the dim light above.
“Is that…” You trailed off as you studied the painting in front of you.
The photographs you’d viewed on Meredith’s coffee table didn’t do it justice. It was vibrant and evocative, all plush greens and vivid blues. A sprawling hillside near Medellin, Colombia, a miniscule white picnic blanket had been added in such beautiful, perfect detail, you could see the tiny red poppies embroidered into the fabric. There was life in this work, it emitted through the thin layer of canvas vibrating through your bones as you stood entranced.
“Carrillo’s work is stunning. Nobody knew he painted, only that he put the fear of God into Escobar.” Mike informed you as he took a second to survey it.
“Mike, I can’t let you...”
“Yes you can.” He said firmly, turning to face you. His eyes fixated on yours, you saw the ferocity in his gaze, the ire and the passion. “His family deserve to have this back; it’s not meant for anybody else’s eyes. He painted it for his wife, to remind her of what they were fighting for before the Narcos killed her. That man sacrificed everything for what he believed in and I’ll be damned if I let this sit in some cartel shithead’s mansion like a fucking trophy.”
There was a viciousness in his voice, an undercurrent of anguish and understanding because Mike had done something similar. He had given everything for the neighbourhood, his heart, his soul and almost his life. He’d lived a lonely existence before Meredith had come along, he had told you one night in front of the fireplace, sharing a bottle of 19 Crimes. Meredith’s head had been resting on a cushion in his lap where she’d fallen asleep, his fingertips were brushing through her hair tenderly.  You discussed his life prior to the attack, how isolated he had become, how he had simply been surviving instead of living. It had been years since he’d actually been able to breath, and with Meredith he thought he’d found a home, someone to love, someone who loved him in return. He couldn’t believe it most days, sometimes he thought he was dreaming, that he’d wake up and the bubble would burst but then Bono would greet him with a cold enquiring nose, Shasta would lick his face and Meredith would laugh and his heart felt like it would explode in his chest.
You recognised that feeling, the one where you were waiting for the other shoe to drop. You had it in the dead of night while Terry slept beside you, his face buried in the curve of your throat, his soft breath ghosting over your skin. There was nothing quite as perfect as being wrapped up in his arms, feeling his heartbeat steadily against yours.
“It’s getting shipped out tomorrow.” Mike told you; he lifted the scalpel to the painting before sucking in a breath and hesitating. “That fucking asshole Munson wanted everyone to get one good look before it disappeared. It’s meant to be his piece de la resistance, proof he can get absolutely anything.” He paused, the scalpel wavering as he tried to select the right place to cut. “Go back to the party, I’ll be gone before you make your bust.”
You reached for the scalpel instead, your fingers wrapping around the handle and removing it from his grasp. Mike let you, your hands were steadier than his, these days. He moved to allow you more space to work.
“We can use the scalpel to break the frame instead.” You informed him, driving the slender blade between a minuscule space in the corner of the wooden panel before leveraging it from side to side. “That way you won’t be compromising the painting.”
Mike cleared his throat as a low crack resounded through the air, the lacquered wood beginning to separate at the joint.
“Meredith’s dad used to do carpentry.” You explained, hooking your finger under the lip of the frame and gently working it away from the painting. “It’s why I like upcycling so much. Do you have something to put the painting in once I’m done?”
Mike picked up the metal whipped cream cannister from the seat where it resided before unscrewing the top and revealing an empty vessel.
“Should I be concerned about how good you are this?” You asked him as you pulled away the side panel of the frame and set it down upon the floor. Mike picked removed a folded handkerchief from his pocket and wiped down the glossy surface as you tactfully slid canvas from its prison.
“I should be asking you the same thing Sergeant.” He said as he took the artwork from your hands with the utmost care before rolling it up gently and placing it inside the container. You took the handkerchief from his outstretched hand and wiped down the rest of the frame before depositing it and the scalpel into your clutch. “How long do I have?”
You removed your phone from your purse, your thumb flicking over the unlock screen.
“I’m about to call in the FBI.” You told him, your thumb hoovering over your text chain with Sinclair. “So, I’d get out of here as soon as possible.”
Mike rose an eyebrow.
“There’s a Degas out there.”
A smile twitched at his lips, and you found yourself returning it, a burst of laughter beginning to bubble in your chest as the sheer ridiculousness of this situation. You had to look away because you knew that it would erupt from your mouth if you held his gaze any longer.
“Bruno is gonna love this.”  He said, tucking the cannister back under his arm.
“I think he’s gonna ban me from watching Ocean’s Eight after this.” You told him, typing out your message to Sinclair.
‘There’s a fucking Degas.’ with three head exploding emojis. ‘Five Dancing Women (Ballerinas)’
He’d know what to do, Sinclair had been your right-hand man ever since you’d made Sergeant and transferred into the Bronx Homicide Unit. He was the one you trusted the most out of all the detectives you supervised.
“You probably have ten minutes after I send this message.” You informed Mike as the two of you strode back towards the black velvet curtain obscuring the doorway. “Head out the service exit. I’ve got Sinclair covering the back and he knows your face.”
Mike nodded his head, before straightening his shoulders and schooling his features into polite boredom before stepping out from behind the curtain and back into the main gallery.  You hit the send button on your message as the curtain closed behind him.

exocolonist romance options ranked by how much emotional pain they cause me:
1. Tang. always rebukes my romantic advances. breaks up with me in every ending. So fucking traumatized and miserable about everything. dies young in every ending I've had even if she improves her mental health. 10/10 on the pain scale. no I won't stop trying to save her why do you ask
2. Dys. hates the world and loudly makes it known (we do a little terrorism). either stays in the colony and is various degrees of miserable about it (and dies) or leaves to become an alien. can't even get a happy ending if u run away together. stole my man once. 9/10 solely because I haven't tried prolific parent with him and that apparently lightens his life in the colony
3. Nem. makes shit choices due to trauma and suffers a lot bc of her abusive boyfriend afterwards, destined to die young unless you go for peace :( 7/10 pain
4. Tammy. because breaking her and Cal up hurts no matter which way you go about it 😭. significantly less painful than the others though. 5/10
5. Sym. well he comes back so it's fine 👍 only hurts when Dys gets involved. 3/10 pain
6. Marz. you drift apart with her but there's no hard feelings involved, just a part of life. 1/10 pain
7. Rex: yayyy! yippee! wahoo! ^_^! 0/10 pain
8. Vace. me: "it's kinda funny how he acts so full of himself when I have maxed combat and animals. I can fix him" *makes him go to therapy, make up for his mistakes, and goes for colony hero/astronaut/array ending so we will be happy and in love forever* checkmate liberals. 0/10 pain
BONUS 1: Cal. just kill Tammy to not have a moral dilemma 5head. -1/10 pain (I haven't dated him)
BONUS 2: Nomi. as painful as it is to normally date a weeb. ?/10 pain (I haven't dated them)

how did you realize you were bisexual.
Back in 2016, back when I actively watched seasonal anime, Re:Zero aired. A character in this show, Felix Argyle, sparked heated discussion on the internet. You see, Felix is outwardly feminine, but only reveals later in the show that he's male. This upset a number of weebs, as they were under the impression that their initial attraction to Felix made them gay. There was this whole discourse.
This whole time I was looking on from the sidelines, confused why people seemed so disturbed by their attraction to Felix. I thought he was cute, but then so were many other characters in the show. I'd been raised in a fairly liberal family and was aware of homosexuality, but I knew that since I was still attracted to women there was something odd going on.
Anyways, I later stumbled upon a, shall we say, "fanmade comic" featuring Astolfo from Fate. Now well-aware that there was something going on with my sexuality, I looked into it and found out about bisexuality.

BL is guy-on-guy Japanese media. Short for boy's love. I've watched a lot of "activists" who claim to be for LGBT people say that any guy-on-guy stuff will always fetishize gay/bi men, even if it's men who enjoy it too. BL tends to be more geared towards women, but that isn't to say men don't enjoy it either. The men who like bl/geicomi (gay comics) tend to get treated as "traitors" for their enjoyment. There's a very big cultural component with LGBT women enjoying that kind of stuff. Japanese context, I mean. There is the stereotype of women who have looked at gay/bi men as something to fulfill their shipping fodder, but I really do think that can be fixed with more socialization. And those girls thinking that's how real gay/bi men work. Unhealthy dynamics, yadda yadda. It's a matter of separating fiction from reality, I suppose? And the stereotype of those girls is them drooling over a gay couple irl, waiting for them to kiss. "Oh, this is just like one of my animes!" If I can paraphrase Hal from Metal Gear Solid. I'm summing things up and probably not doing a good job of it. Sometimes those girls are just starting to realize things about their own sexuality. Doesn't exactly excuse them, but I've seen guys get creepy about gals on that side too. Real gals, I mean. Does that make sense? While I personally wretch at the whole "male gaze theory" and stuff like that...at the end of the day, those characters are fictional. What truly matters, I think, is how you treat real people. Treat those as you wish to be treated, y'know? That's how I've gone about it. Dunno how it'll work for you, Nonny.~From an older bisexual weeb-ass woman who enjoys bl/geicomi/yuri/straight stuff and who has seen some shit since the early 2000's to the BL anon girl.
Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.
I mean, I don't think that women fetishising mlm relationships should just be swept under the rug like this. This sort of feels like you're just trying to say that it isn't really a problem, when it kind of is. Like I do think that some stories of people like that are exaggerated, but that doesn't mean that fetishising mlm or wlw relationships is like, an okay or good thing to do.
Basically, if you are very very invested in a group (especially a minority group) that you yourself are not a part of, why? Why are you so fascinated? What specifically is it about mlm relationships that non mlm are so invested in? Usually when it's wlw relationships being fetishised it winds up devaluing the relationship and putting it 'not on the same level' as hetero relationships. It's treated like it's just entertainment (generally for hetero men) who just think the idea of 2 women is hot even though they don't actually view that as a valid or 'real' relationship. I think that the fetishisation around mlm relationships in fandom spaces, which I usually see coming from hetero (although sometimes bi, apparently) women is kind of the same thing on a smaller scale. In a lot of fandom areas mlm relationships get treated like their only real value is as entertainment.
Frankly fetishisation of mlm and wlw relationships is just kind of another flavour of homophobia. That being said, it obviously isn't inherently fetishising for a woman to enjoy some mlm content or a man to enjoy some wlw content. It's just when it becomes like, very close to an obsession, or like the only sort of media that you're interested in that it becomes problematic.
The way the last anon described her feelings felt kind of off, and idk if I just misread or something, but it sounded like she said that even though she's a bi woman, she feels liberated by only mlm media which goes against gender norms and toxic masculinity. Well.. why not also wlw media? Why not women who go against gender norms also..?
Tldr, I'm not saying it's wrong or bad for someone to enjoy stories about people who are not the same as them, it's fine to do that. But when you become obsessed or very enamoured with a group of people that you are not a part of, you really need to ask yourself why.

I was sent this today and holy fuck this is misleading?? So I'll talk about it for a bit.
Tumblr media
Not showing the poster, but the tweet shows an interview from a people who worked on English version of Skies of Arcadia and yeah it looks very bad.
Poster clarifies later which game it's from, but still if you didn't know any better you'd assumed that it's for something recent. Because you know, what is the point of ranting about something that isn't even relevant?
And some people clarified that it's not how all localisation process went, but for one character to make them sound more natural. You know, like a localiser should do because that's their job.
I didn't play the game myself, so i can absolutely be wrong, but holy fucking shit the poster is stupid and blatantly cherry picking to make their point look good.
And they are most likely a weeb(since they also uploaded an anime screenshot for no real reason) and weebs are the last people I'd ask about translation and localisation topics.
These kinds of people have this weird obsession with "accurately" translated text, it's bizarre AND DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE.
Bad localisation is a problem and it should be addressed, but every fucking time it does, these weirdos appear and just go SEE THIS IS WHY LOCALISATION BAD AND I HATE THEM NO ONE SHOULD DO IT!!
Like bruh shut your bitch ass up you don't know anything about how translation process goes.
If not for localisations you'd hear jokes like "на словах Іван Багряний, а на ділі лох їбаний." translated literally and no one will get what it means and how it was supposed to be.
Localisers job is to keep the meaning of the the translated text the same, because, as all people should know, expressions and ways to portray things are different between every language (the ways of how localisation is done will differ from person to person but that's a different topic). There is no true accurate way to translate it. Only to get it as close as possible to the original. And if you want to do it, sometimes you have to change things. There is a reason why if you make several people to translate the same line, you can get different results that convey the same thing!
These mfs have some weird fear of 4kids resurrecting and liberals censoring their fave animus or something and it's something alright.
This demonisation of localisers is so dumb I can't even express it in words. It's straight up wild.
If ya wanna your accurately translated anime, then translate it in google translate, or better yet, LEARN THE LANGUAGE YOURSELF!
Genuinely, if you are so bothered by this "censorship problem", then learn the language. It will only benefit you, there are no downsides.

// some talk about fetishization of asian women, and why it’s really not flattering in any sense. rambles. nothing good. gonna go to sleep now wah
In my home city my family is part of the local Chinese Community 中华协会, my dad is super active and always running between volunteering and fundraisers and helping out the community etc. and putting on events to promote our culture and give the children of the community a place to learn about their roots. They know most of the people there, my city isn’t very large, and most people are regulars although some come and go. They also host wechat groups to help newcomers settle down, get citizenships, learn English, etcetera.
There’s a pretty large trend of young women straight from somewhere in China who are brought over by rich, older white dudes from the city, stranded, and although I’m sure people ‘fall in love’ despite language barriers and age and all that or whatever, but this trend (and trend of these women being manipulated with their lack of English ability) is very um. Interesting and common. Sometimes they come to the community for help, when their husband makes them sign things they can’t read, when their husbands die and leave them with nothing and they can’t hire a lawyer alone without knowing the language.
This happens in SEA and parts of east asia, I admit I only really know a bit about the stuff that happens in China because I’m very aware of it I guess, there are a lot of white expats who go there and are treated better than even the locals. Expats who go and pick up Asian girls exist, and maybe it’s not ‘harmful’, but their view of Asian women that causes a lot of them to specifically go there and target Asian women sure are. Way too many seem to go on to become that ‘libertarian guy with his submissive asian wife’ trope, and they’re way too proud of it. It’s not great being a trophy, either.
Weeb guys and fetishizers are pretty common over here in Canada and the US. I’m definitely not the only asian women who’s been harassed or taken advantage of by ‘I just really like asian girls... wanna watch anime with me?’ guys, it’s depressingly common from what I know. Sooner or later you bump into them. They’re creepy and predatory, there’s a few reasons it’s not ‘just a preference’ but one big thing I will cite is that there’s a strangely pedophilic slant to it, our perceived smaller stature and ‘baby face’ and ‘innocence’ is highlighted (even tho it doesnt?? exist???) and we are infantilized in the process of being racialized. There’s nothing flattering about your race being relegated to this, even if ‘feminized’ doesn’t sound that bad, it’s made us the target of violence and abuse, and predators who specifically seek out asian girls at a very young age.
The peak of this fetishization is seen in Mdm Butterfly, or more accurately, Miss Saigon. The asian men who’ve been denied masculinity and humanity are relegated to seedy and lowly and weak, the asian women are turned into mindless sexualized objects in need of saving or existing to represent exotic sexuality, an entire group of people deprived of humanity, and that results in (and is then informed by) reality. The US army marched in to ‘liberate’ Korea, but many comfort women were not liberated, they were just turned over to serve the US troops. You see this happen time and time again in US occupied places, Vietnam, sexpats in SEA, violence against women around military bases in Japan and S. Korea is more common. In Asia, the soldiers dispatched there are trained to mow down asian people in general, and sexualize + dehumanize asian women.
Before all this, in Mdm Butterfly and all associated media, its the repetition of asian men as weak and demasculinized and lowly, and asian women as pining submissive lotuses in need of saving, or exotically seductive dragonesses. And then, of course, there’s cyberpunk, where asian aesthetics are plastered all over the place, and asian presence is removed except for in sex workers to be placed around like decoration, underground, and usually one single heavily sexualized asian woman, the violence against whom is glamourized and sexualized.
This isn’t flattering, it’s not fun, and I’d not experience it if I had the choice. Accusations of being DESPERATE to be oppressed are always interesting to me for that reason, especially because it usually comes from white people? yeah idk man

Commentary on an interesting Reddit post by Roketto
Tumblr media
"Liberalism" hasn't poisoned all the fun hobbies and fandoms you were in. That was all you. You can have different political values in a fandom and still be an upstanding contributor to the community.
Also her using "blackwashing" as a con for the cosplay community is a giant fuckin yikes for me.
And of course she shows how much it a weeb she is by praising anime because Japan is a "homogeneous culture that doesn't tolerate mental illness laden politics forced on American series." Believe it or not Roketto but Japan has its own form of liberalism and activism that isn't shown out right by the media. Plus, America is a melting pot of cultures, creeds, and values, but for decades the only positive representation for protagonists and stories have always been white straight cis men. It's only fair that minorites get their fair share of opportunities and representation too.
Oh wait, you don't believe that they should because they're minorites.
Lastly, no one doxxed you. No one got a hold of your address, work, ssn, or records. This isn't Kiwi Farms. I didn't include your Facebook posts because I wanted to respect your privacy for your real identity rather than your screen name. If you had a shit ton of pizzas sent to your address and people calling you at work, let me know. Because I don't advocate for it.
By the way, I find it funny that she doesn't deny being islamophobic and racist. Like that's really the hill you want to die on, girl. You want to be treated as a human being but you don't do the same for Muslims, BLM protestors, trans/nb folk, or any kind of minorites
I guess you could say...
Rules for me, but not for thee

Has an “I’m invincible” attitude
Smart and quick-witted, but encourages/does dumb things in the name of a good time
A chaotic troll. Messes with people purely for her own amusement
Calls her beast form her fursuit because she thinks it’s funny. Diamond has told people Chrys is a furry without realizing what it means and if anyone asks “Hey Chrys are you a furry?” she says “yes” just bc it makes her laugh
Calls Diamond a dumbass all the time but will get pissed if other people make fun of Diamond for being dumb
Has two rats: one named Princess Diana and one named Pope Stephen VI
Plays bass
Horny on main 24/7 and doesn’t care who knows it
Has a new relationship every couple weeks. Has a habit of going for film major/liberal arts fuckboys and alt girls with trust issues. None of these relationships work out
Loves horror movies and slasher films. Also loves anime, manga, and cartoons
Owns so many plush toys

I am reading a twitter thread by a bunch of fucking weebs telling Asian people who aren't Japanese to just "get over" and "forget about" the atrocities committed by Imperial Japan. One of them literally referred to shit like Unit 731 and the rape of Nanjing as "subjective, sentimental crap" and then another fucking weeb said the Holocaust should be forgotten too because it would make modern Germans feel bad and "that's not healthy." And someone literally said in regards to the death marches and comfort women and all that shit "we shouldn't keep looking at the past then we'll make the same mistakes."
Learning from past mistakes and atrocities is literally the whole goddamn reason we study history.
I fucking hate weeaboos. (PSA to Weebs: Japanese people hate you too. They should. We all should.)
Then someone said that Britain made everything in Africa great and liberated. When someone brought up all the atrocities and shit like the concentration camps and they literaally said that all empires have to kill people BUT WE BROUGHT YOU PROGRESS AND LIBERTY!!!
I fucking hate Imperialists.
(Oh, and to anyone who tries to take this as "Oh, so you hate people who like Anime and Japanese culture?!" STFU in advance. You know that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about actual weeaboos who think Japan is just superior to everything culturally and think it's actually like the anime they watch and that anyone would ever be interested in their Katana collection. No one cares if you love sushi or J-Pop but if you are placing your love of fucking Naruto over the memories of thousands of women forced into sexual slavery you're a disgusting fucking weeb and YOU ARE WHO I AM TALKING ABOUT)

Why I love A3! and am content being stuck in actor hell
In this essay I will
No seriously. I really love this game and I have no otaku/weeb friends irl that would ever play this with me. And I just want to fangirl and have no other outlet than writing a massive post just spilling out my love for this game. Read at your own risk, lol.
For me, what makes me fall in love with a game, more than their game play, is their story. I play games for their stories because I am a story lover. I love stories so much, that I majored in literature, lol. So for me, I only really play games that are story-centric. But even though I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember, I suck at them. My coordination is always so bad, and I’m so bad at grinding, that sometimes, when a game is too hard, I stop playing halfway through and never end up finishing the story out of frustration. There’s a lot of games on my switch and other apps that I’ve played that are on hiatus due to this reason.
But A3! is really simple to play. Took a while for me to get the game mechanics of it, and I was a bit confused at first, but unlocking the next chapter is a pretty simple feat. (The fact that I downloaded this game during the period where all the main story acts were accessible also helped.) So I got to read all of Main Story 1 and I FELL IN LOVE.
I fall in love with stories if I fall in love with the characters. And as a story consumer I am so impressed by the amount of thought the game developers had for each and every character.
My first impression of how the story would unfold was that Sakuya would be the main focus of this game and that other than Masumi, the other characters would fall to the way side. Sakuya was your typical shounen hero character, the optimistic, untalented but hard working guy (the Naruto in the early arcs of that series). He’s not my favorite type, but I understand that he’s a necessary and in my first impression, the most important character of the story. Then there’s Masumi, the kuudere/tsundere talented bishounen who’s the rival (i.e. the Sasuke). The fact that he falls in love at first sight with the player (or Izumi) was a hilarious surprise, and he became an instant fave. I know that some don’t like his obsessive yandere tendencies, but I find them hilarious and am quite fond of them (but I would never condone it irl). Honestly, during Harugumi’s act, I honestly thought that the focus would solely be on them. But it wasn’t.
Tsuzuru got the chance to pursue his dream of becoming a playwright and he dwells into some regrets of not pursuing his dream earlier. (The fact that he straight up dies after each script is written cracks me up every time. Seeing it in the anime adaptation killed me.) Citron is the comic relief. He’s necessary to gel a team of strangers together. But during this act, his past and background is hinted and it doesn’t seem to be all sunshine and rainbows (To be honest, and spoilers for the EN server here, but before I read Main Story 2, I straight up thought that Citron came from a different planet, lololol). And then Itaru. Chigasaki Itaru my man, my all time fave. To be honest, when I first saw him I didn’t have a favorable impression. The prince-like bishounen is the type I dislike the most. But he’s an otaku? A closet gamer? But to be honest, even when that was revealed, I didn’t think much of it. I initially thought, ‘Oh, they made a gap mode character, cute.’ And again, I thought that he would be put into the backdrop. BUT THEN HE WANTED TO QUIT AND HARUGUMI PERFORMED A STREET ACT TO CONVINCE HIM TO STAY AND I DIED (Omg, Citron in the anime adaptation killed me). I thought that only Sakuya and Masumi would be the focus, but I was very very pleasantly surprised to find that all characters had their own major screen time (Maybe save for Citron. His was kind of the smallest, but that’s for a reason. At this point, I’m tempted to make a first impressions vs. current thoughts post of every single character. Would anyone be interested in me doing that?).
By the end of Act 1, I fell in love with Harugumi. And to be honest, I was apprehensive of reading Act 2. I became so invested in Harugumi, and now I have to start a new journey with a new set of characters? I just wanted to read more about Harugumi and I was disappointed because I thought that I wouldn’t see those characters again. But again, I was pleasantly surprised to see that that wasn’t the case. Act 2 is Natsugumi’s story, but Harugumi characters were sprinkled here and there. And I thought that it was cute that Temna, a really prideful actor, looked up to Sakuya and asked him for advice. And then you have Sakuya saying that he didn’t really do anything as a leader, LOL. Save for sleeping on the stage together. And then Temna proceeds to follow this advice by going to Izumi and saying that after much research, the answer to a better team was sleeping together. LMAO TEMNA YOU IDIOT (I love you)! Natsugumi’s story was adorable, and I adored it.
Main Story 1 is the introduction and formation of every troupe. By Act 3, I was expecting it to become repetitive. What was impressive to me was that it wasn’t. Every single character is so vastly different from one another. They have their own personalities and fully fleshed out backstories. In Main Story 1 alone, that’s twenty characters. That’s highly impressive, especially like I mentioned beforehand with Act 1, everyone got their own screen time and character development. And for those that didn’t it’s because there’s a reveal/plot twist later down the line that’s at least hinted. You don’t always see that in t.v. shows/anime/manga with an ensemble cast (Voltron Legendary Defender, I’m staring at you. But that’s just one example, there’s others too).
But the game developers didn’t stop there. For each of those twenty characters, the writers developed not only their personalities and backstories, but also their own personalized relationship dynamics with other members of the company.
Each troupe is very unique in their dynamics. I have a very hard time picking a favorite troupe because I am just so fond of them all. The relationships that the members have with each other in each troupe is so different, so special. I think the reason why I love anime/manga so much is because found family or nakamaship is usually a prevalent theme in them and I am a sucker for these. One of my favorite genres is slice-of-life just because I love reading relationships, whether they be platonic or romantic. And each troupe has these in spades.
BUT IT DOESN’T END THERE.
By Act 3, I thought that I figured out the pattern. Harugumi supported Natsugumi during Act 2, so in Act 3, Natsugumi would do the same for Akigumi. And then Harugumi will fall to the wayside. But I was pleasantly surprised again (do you see the pattern here?) to find that wasn’t the case. Fucking Itaru became the outside support/advice giver for Banri LOL. What made me fall in love with the game even harder, and what made me impressed with the game developers even more, was that not only did they write relationships within the troupe, but they also created and personalized intertroupe relations for ALL TWENTY CHARACTERS. Like how?! That’s so much work and so much to juggle with! As an avid story reader, that was just so crazy impressive to me.
So that’s just me geeking about the narrative and character and relational development. Let’s talk about the gaming side of things, shall we?
I’m pretty familiar with app gatcha games as I’ve played my fair share of them. A3! strangely focuses more on the story aspect than the game aspect, which I am totally okay with. But what impressed me from the gaming perspective was how A3! handles events. Most gatcha games I’ve played, the event story line had nothing to do with the main story (SWD Obey Me and FE Heroes being prime examples here). Events were used as fanservice in order to get money from the consumers. And my first event was the Summer Beach Episode, so I initially thought that that was the same case for A3!. But it wasn’t.
When Main Story 1 ended, I was satisfied and at the same time I wasn’t. The story was good, and it ended well, but I wanted more. The game seemed to hint at more, so would I ever get more? And then I find out that all of the events (or most of them anyway) is the continuation of Main Story 1. That’s crazy!!! As a gamer, and as someone who has a family member that works in the gaming industry, I was crazy impressed because I haven’t seen this done before. I thought that that was immensely smart on the game developer’s part. Honestly, I know that not everyone plays the events in app games. But by making the events canon, and not au, gamers will be more inclined to play the event games. And I also know that it’s crazy easy to get bored of games, especially if the main story ended or the gameplay/story line isn’t that interesting. But the beauty of app games is that they could constantly be updated; their stories could continue to be added to. And with A3!, the event story line dwells deeper in these character’s backstories. Remember what I said about me initially thinking that the story will only revolve around protagonist and rival character? With each troupe play event, the lead and support actor constantly change. Everyone straight up gets their time to shine and their character development continues. Along with their relationships with others within the company. As someone who’s already invested in these characters, there’s no way that I would miss these events! I’m determined to play all of them! And that’s why I really think that the game developers came up with a smart strategy to get their gamers hooked.
My biggest regret is that I downloaded this game recently, so I missed the prior events. PLEASE, LIBER AND CYBRID, I WOULD PAY MONEY TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE PREVIOUS EVENT STORIES. I don’t need the gatcha cards pertaining to these events, I just really really want to read the previous event story lines. I am forever grateful to yaycupcake that I was able to read what I missed (and the future events), but it’s not the same as experiencing it myself.
What’s also smart, is that you have to read the event story lines, or else you won’t be able to completely understand Main Story 2. There’s aspects of things in the event that Main Story 2 will touch  upon. So as a consumer, you really do want to participate in all the events.
Let’s talk about Main Story 2. I somehow discovered that in Main Story 2, each troupe is going to get an additional member (the BRBrookies). And I didn’t know how I felt about that. I liked the dynamic that each troupe has now. Wouldn’t an additional member ruin that? And could I really get myself to like these four new characters? The joke’s on me because I severely underestimated the game writers. You would’ve thought that I would have more faith in them since they impressed me so much. But I was a fool. Main Story 2 is great, and it didn’t seem like anything was pulled out of nowhere because it was all hinted at either in Main Story 1 or during the event stories. And each rookie is a perfect fit for their troupe and each troupes’ bonds continue to grow stronger and I cry every time. I can’t wait for it to come to the EN server.
Now I’m a talk about the music.
For a while, I was aware that in the otaku/weeb community, that there was an idol craze. But I never understood it’s appeal. This game is starting to make me understand, lol.
I may not have understood the idol craze, but I do like vocaloid. When I first listened to vocaloid, I thought that it was weird that I was listening to a computer program sing. But what really attracted me was the stories told in the songs (again, story lover here). As an example, I’m going to talk about Evillious Chronicles. The Evillious Chronicles told a story in each song that was all a part of a story, and it was also my introduction to vocaloid. Storytelling through songs was just genius to me, and I fell in love with it. Granted, I know that it’s not new to vocaloid, and that not every vocaloid song is part of a series or tell a story, but it was what drew me in.
So vocaloid may seem like a tangent here, but to me, the A3! music was kind of like vocaloid. I accidentally stumbled on it when I was actually searching for someone doing a gameplay video of the Alex in Wonderland event. I couldn’t find any, but instead I discovered Alice in Wonderland Go Go. I gave it a listen, and fell in love with the melody. The music fit the theme of Alice in Wonderland so well. And then I listened to Susume Pirates next. It fucking slapped. These two songs became my gateway to A3! songs.
I’m a go on a bit of a tangent here, but I’m a talk about the voice actors for a bit. As someone who’s also pursuing voice acting, I always appreciate when voice actors go the extra mile for their fans. Despite the vastly polar opinions of Voltron Legendary Defender, I adore the voice actors for their contribution to the fandom. Especially Josh Keaton (Shiro’s VA). So imagine my surprise, that I discover that not only is the Main Story completely voiced in A3! (which is very impressive and high production for a f2p app game), but the voice actors sing too in these songs too!
The A3ders sing the theme song. But each troupe has their own song, and each song is so vastly different from each other because these songs reflect the dynamics of their specific troupe, and I love that. But not only are there troupe songs, each character has their own song! And once you read the main story of each character, their song just becomes so much deeper! I give mad props to the song writers for tailoring each song to fit the character. I’m not going to lie, I bawled while reading the Manju Fist event, and then when I listened to Taichi’s character song afterwards? My mom thought that someone died since I was crying so hard. And did it end there? No! There’s a song that’s fucking tailored after every play! And they’re all bops!
The amount of times that A3! has impressed me is just way too much to count. It’s a fucking amazing game, story wise and music wise. And the love that the developers have for A3! is just so evident, and I love that. It definitely deserves its five star rating, and deserves an even bigger fandom here in the west.
So there, that about wraps up my massive essay on my love for A3!. If you read this far, I tip off my hat to you. If you also want to talk about A3! hit me up! I need someone to fangirl with, lololol.
