underrated aspect of rexwalker that has been filling my brain completely lately: they're clearly prep nerd 4 goth nerd, as per the classic alignment chart. which means that I am completely confident that rex and anakin spent a significant proportion of their canonical time together absolutely geeking out about the most random shit.
meant to be planning to lift a siege in another sector next week -> a couple hours of actual planning -> intense 2am argument over whether general zy woops of the mandalorian empire could have actually beaten general beans in the battle of sarda 2000 years if the mandalorians had access to modern blaster charger tech at the time
literally did not speak to each other for three days afterwards because they're both so salty about modern blaster charger tech and/or general beans
Generations Of Military Historians Are Wrong And It Would Have Been Totally Possible To Lift Exar Kun's Siege of Coruscant With The Resources The Republic Had To Hand. no, listen, general, hear me out!
Generations Of Military Historians Are Wrong, But In A Different Way From What You Suggested Yesterday, Rex. no I'm not just suggesting this to be contrary! you just didn't spend enough time thinking about hyperdrive engines! unlike me, who can and will spend all day thinking about hyperdrive engines.
yes, but you didn't spend ENOUGH time thinking about blaster charger tech, sir. :(
one time anakin accidentally on purpose went three hours out of his way on leave so he could visit the site of the battle of morlan dai
the battle happened 1200 years ago. now it's literally just a field with some crappy concrete buildings at one end. it's a field.
...that was what fives said when rex dragged him out there with them. rex and anakin still almost cried about it.
anyway I think it would be very on brand for anakin to have initially won rex's respect (and romantic interest) by sharing all his jedi access codes so rex could borrow from the military history section of the jedi archives.
the first time rex got access they were on leave for three days and cody legitimately thought he was dead.
hey kids, do you want to know the real way to pick the best watermelons? Most of the internet is lying to you -- no, the webbing of scars has nothing to do with it. Here are my tried-and-true techniques, based on a childhood spent growing watermelon (and other giant melons), a lot of hands-on experience choosing good ones, and info I've gleaned from various university extension websites over the years.
Look for the following qualities. Ideally, your melon will tick all these boxes.
"Sugar bumps." Not all varieties of watermelon display this characteristic, but for some, when they're ripe, the skin near the fruit's base will get rough with tiny bumps. If some watermelons on display don't have this and some do, go with one that does. If none do, focus on the other listed characteristics.
A round profile when viewed from one end. If it's more triangular in profile, it probably isn't fully mature.
A prominent field spot. This is the discolored spot on the side that was against the dirt. Depending on the variety of watermelon, it may be light or bright yellow. Regardless, it should be sizeable and well-defined, standing in contrast the rest of the skin. If the borders are poorly defined or the spot's just barely faded, it's probably not ripe.
Feels hefty compared to its size. This one's subjective, but if you have two watermelons of the same dimensions, the heavier one is going to be riper + have a thinner rind.
A resonant sound when thumped. This technique takes a while to dial in, but once you've mastered it, it makes finding good melons so much easier. Hold your melon against your ear and give it a slap or knock. If you feel vibrations propagate throughout the melon and the sound is a nice hollow resonant one, you're in business. If all you hear is a flat slap or thud, the melon's either under- or overripe.
Lastly, this probably goes without saying, make sure to avoid any watermelon with squishy spots (including a stem that "gives" when pressed on) or cracks. Surface scuffs and healed scars are fine.
it’s amazing how often i see people i follow on my non-spn acc shame tamer rps like cockles or something and look down their noses at it when they are also the same people i see shipping those two lead actors from ted lasso on main (this is not me shaming that just btw, it’s me going “what’s all this then” at the cognitive dissonance). also sorry this is random but it’s like !!!!! what !!!!!
lmao honestly people can be very strange sometimes
Every description about Nico (especially the canon ones) describing him as “cold” can personally fight me. Nico is jaded, yes, and often closed-off and sometimes stand-offish and defensive but he is not "cold”. He cares SO SO SO MUCH about EVERYONE. He loves and cares with his entire heart constantly and that is a core part of his character. He doesn’t often make public shows of his affection but he takes care to be kind when it matters and doesn’t hide that he does care (usually, the only exception really being him being in the closet, but even then he only hid his crush specifically and not the fact that Percy is important to him). He fine with hugging his friends in front of a crowd and will sit with strangers at a campfire just so they’re not alone. I mean, heck, he’s an extrovert! We know this! He actively seeks out people and gets lonely very quickly and easily! If he can’t talk to living people he will chat with the dead! That’s how much he thrives on being social!
The only time Nico has ever been actively “cold” was the couple of months between TTC and BoTL when he was actively mourning Bianca. Nico is not “cold.” He loves so much and he does show it, just in his own way.
okay I started reading Dungeon Meshi the other day only because I liked those character sheets. it's good and fun so far, I'm on chapter 37 and very invested. I thought it was gonna be just slice of life (because it was for like the first 20 chapters or so), but now there is a plot, and I like it both ways. it has kind of a slow start even for the slice of life stuff: not like it's bad, I was just unsure whether it was going to move past "enjoyable" for the first couple chapters. but then it went from enjoyable to deeply charming and now it's gone to exciting while still pretty darn charming. without knowing the author, I can confidently say she's a giant nerd. this is a work that would be impossible to create unless you were a person who is great at drawing with intense special interests in classic fantasy RPGs and biology/ecology. which sounds very specific but thank goodness because that's what makes it good. it feels like it comes from a place of love.
there’s a special place in hell for people who take the time and go through the effort of leaving negative comments on fanfics, like-- what is wrong with you, what is LEGITIMATELY wrong with you?
I’m so angry and so devastated on behalf of everyone who has been harrassed like this and who is going through something like this right now. There’s no excuse for shitty behavior - if you intentionally leave a hurtful comment on something someone created and put out there for other people’s enjoyement, for free, after spending probably HOURS if not WEEKS or MONTHS or longer on it, you’re an incredibly shitty, disgusting, miserable waste of space of a person
be better
actually no we don't talk about nico who likes pirates enough. we don't talk enough about how he probably has a favorite pirate. we don't talk enough about how he probably has a favorite ship. we don't talk enough about how he probably has a favorite shipwreck too. we don't talk enough about how he probably spent all day on the canals with the gondole, asking the gondoliers all sorts of questions about their boats until his mother had to pull him away. how many hours did he spend on the port of venice just watching the boats come in and leave? just.... how far does the love of pirates go? is it a love of boats too? like we know he loves (I refuse to believe it's past tense) pirates, but we don't even know if he knows how to swim, or if he likes being on cruises, or at the beach or what. it's sad.
cannibalism as a form of intimacy cannibalism as a form of grief love being all devouring loving so much that the only way you can express it is by consuming each other to the point you dont know how to even exist without the other consuming each other through life and after death cannibalism as a way to immortalize another within you
The bone-afide tumblr sexyman supreme.
Anyway this took way too long lmao, but it turned out pretty good in the end I think! :D I was working on this while the whole sexyman thing went down, so take this as my contribution to sanssweep too
I'm so far behind on undertale september now. Worth it :P
Question of the night goes to my friend who saw me sewing skeleton hands onto my Palamedes tunic with no context and asked "So is that a Halloween thing, or is it for science outreach?"
I know I've said a million times before but I absolutely love your artstyle. I've never been the biggest dan of my own art cuz it's always been way too complicated and really difficult to just doodle characters and stuff-- but yours is always so consistent in comparison (not that I'm saying I'm bad at art I just struggle to draw using the same techniques I used to)
I wondered if you had any anatomy tips for characters? Like do you break down characters into shapes to get their proportions vaguely correct while sketching? If you do I very much want to know what shapes you use because I've not been able to draw a single full body character in quite a while cuz I can't get their proportions the way I want 😅
OH god good question also THANKS JSDFHD 😭😭😭
uhhhh I guess I do the general blocky thing that most people do?
(like I'd emphasize the vague in "vaguely correct" here because every other day I stumble on a new amazing art tutorial on how to simplify all 900 back muscles into a perfect shape and it's like oh wow I have Not been doing that and I probably still won't remember now)
BUT for me it's all about the Vibes
so when I'm really trying it usually either ends up being an amalgam of some tips that I try to remember + the shapes I've seen the most in tutorials since the early internet KFJHSDJKF
but like a lot of the time I just do something super simple and then I have to figure it out later on a second sketch layer so it's all kind of a mess BUT that's the general shapes at least!!
what is it with these weird americans claiming that racism is no longer a thing just because where they live is somewhat regulated or whatever and all that bullshit????
thinking a lot about the moral of the life series, in a things they carried kind of way. (The moral of the story is that there is no moral. Fuck off - a paraphrase.) meaning is what is produced when you set one thing next to another and draw connections. people who win defy the rules, Scott has two in a row where his promise-keeping preserves him, etc. but the patterns always contradict.
but at the end of a season the ghosts cry out for blood. pearl and Scott share lives but impulse says, "there can only be one!" did he know that going in? I can't really imagine it, that the group agreed beforehand that even among the final two someone had to kill their soulmate and themself. certainly not impulse who is the prototypical soulmate, unshakably dedicated because as he points out when bdubs asks if impulse would betray him, he has no choice. my lives are your lives. but he says the same, inverted, to scott: betray your soulmate, you have no choice.
I love a more traditional UHC, but those are different because there's never a question of how long they'll last. You might team up or be assigned a team but no one ever doubts that it will be over, probably the same day you started. the tragedy of third life's optimistic start is they briefly all hoped and earnestly believed peace might last a long time before the killing started. it didn't, and the next season they ensured someone would die every week, either by murder or by punishment. the no red fraternization enforcement was perhaps too much, and for take 3 you are guaranteed someone on your side, in the same color as you til you're both gone.
for me, the life series is compelling because the central question no one living there will ask is how long can this last? but they answer in different ways: devotion, or betrayal; answering revenge, or by con and threat of force; looking sideways at the rules they know will doom them eventually because they have to keep clinging to something that keeps them alive, be it a promise (because I killed you ill stay with you, he loves me!, I'll go after pearl but I won't go after scott) or a principle (take the boogeyman penalty and go red that way rather than die killing my friends, it's me and my dogs) or plain old fear (big b killing cleo, scar's contracts, so many other things). you have to keep living to win, and to win you need allies, and so you find love or its absence that fuels you as the optimistic answer of "forever!" fades to "a little longer" on yellow and "not long at all, not long, not much longer" on red.
The lonely never live long unless they find something to cling to, and even then success is never guanteed. often, the answer is love, requited or misplaced; oftener, temporary convenience. everyone living knows nothing lasts forever, so take what you can get for as long as you can keep it. But ghosts know what the living don't: the end was always already there.
