On the topic of WWX's privilege vs JGY's, there's this exchange with WQ after he's killed Jin Zixuan that always stands out to me:
He could neither shout nor move, rasping, “Why are you going to Koi Tower? I wasn’t the one who cursed him with Hundred Holes at all…”
Wen Qing, “But they have set their minds that it was you.”
Wei WuXian tried his best to think of ways to deal with this. Suddenly, he thought of something, “Then find the real person who set the curse! Jin ZiXun’s definitely gone to experts of cursing. The most common way to deal with these curses is to hit them back, let the effects rebound back to the one who placed the curse. Even if not all of the power could be rebounded, a large portion can. We can just look for someone who has the same curse marks on them!”
Wen Qing, “There’s no use.”
Wei WuXian, “Why not?”
Wen Qing, “There are so many people—where could we look for them? Set up a checkpoint on every street of every city and make everyone take off their clothes so that we can check?”
Wei WuXian protested, “Why not?”
Wen Qing, “Who’d be willing to set up these checkpoints for you? And for how long do you intend to search? We could perhaps find them after eight or ten years, but would those people be willing to wait?”
Wei WuXian, “But there are no rebounded curse marks on me!”
Wen Qing, “During today’s incident, did they ask you?”
Wei WuXian, “No.”
Wen Qing, “That’s right. They didn’t ask. They straight-up prepared to kill you. Do you understand now? They don’t need any proof. They don’t need you to find the truth either. Whether or not you have curse marks on your body doesn’t matter at all. You’re the YiLing Patriarch, the King of the Demonic Path. You specialize in dark curses, so it wouldn’t even be strange if you didn’t have curse marks on you. On top of that, you didn’t have to do it yourself. You could’ve gotten Wen-dogs, your slaves, to do it for you. It’s you no matter what. You won’t be able to deny it.”
(ER 77)
At this point WWX still feels on some level like he can defend himself with reason—not just from one person, but from the mob. He expects that something like finding the actual person who set the curse can be done, and while I don't think he's really thinking through how much work that would be, it suggests that he's not used to having to think through how much effort it would take, to prove himself innocent. Intuitively, he expects to be given the benefit of the doubt, not by everyone but by enough people; intuitively, he expects a situation where at least someone in authority is on his side.
And he's wrong, of course, as he realizes here, and as he learns even more deeply at Nightless City. But I think the fact that he has to learn it speaks a lot to what his experience of the world was, until this point.
And the thing about JGY is, he'd never have made this mistake, because he's never had the things that WWX did! He's never been given the benefit of the doubt, he knows not to expect support from any authority. Tbh we see him surviving only because he doesn't make this mistake: what do you think would have happened to him, if he'd turned himself in at Langya, if he'd tried to argue with NMJ after Sun Palace instead of fleeing?
There are a lot of scenes showing just how different their circumstances are, but this moment says a lot to me. Even now, even after everything that's happened, WWX still expects things to play out as though he's a favoured member of the Jiang sect; and he doesn't realize just how different things are for someone who's really outside the system.

do you think as a high value woman, it's fine to have one night stands probably once in a while? as long as you're doing it on your own terms?
Hi darling,
Listen, I can talk about high value mindset and elegance for hours, but at the end of the day, your life has to work for you.
I know it's not easy, in this day and age, to resist the temptation of casual hook-ups (or FWB, F buddies and whatever other situationships). Because of how society at large is set up, it's easy to feel lonely, disconnected, hungry for some deeper connection. If anything, I would say society as we see it today was designed to keep people this way: unhappy and disconnected. Media normalizes it, men are taught to feel entitled to it (or at least to normalize it as well), and that leaves many women thinking they have no choice but settle for crumbs if they are to have their needs for affection/intimacy met.
Or, there's also another side to the story. Men (or any gender, goes either way) that are heartbroken from past relationships find themselves emotionally unavailable or unable to invest 100% into a relationship again, they're still healing. But they also don't want to be deprived of affection, intimacy, feeling wanted or loved, even if for a night/arrangement.
I'm not going to say it's easy to say no. We're all human. We have needs, whether they're physical, mental or emotional. That's one truth, that I find no point denying.
Here's another truth: by principle situationships are a bad idea because at the end of the day, most often someone always ends up hurt, usually you as the woman. You give the most (your sacred feminine energy, your nurturing, your body, your health, your time)... and receive the least (a night of pleasure or let's be real, not even that much). Women become emotionally attached through physical intimacy; you can negotiate your way around that fact with self-denial bravado or intellectual discourse all day, but it doesn't change it. And that's the least of worries. As a woman, you can get pregnant, or you can end up with who knows what STDs or STI's - and yes, that is an essential, mature, responsible conversation to have with yourself and the respective partner(s). You can't toy with your health like that.
That being said, if "on your own terms" is your loophole to having it both ways, both having your high value mindset and your emotional/physical needs met... if that means only getting involved with men that you've carefully vetted in every important sense of the word, and you find that this arrangement works for you now and then, then power to you, and I say that unironically. Just make sure to check in with yourself often and well, check with your intuition that it's the right thing for you.
I would never judge a woman that chooses to do so. I will always celebrate a woman's right to choose for herself. Making messy choices doesn't mean you suddenly lose your high value woman status, it just means you're human. But you do owe it to yourself to learn from the past, and make better choices for your overall happiness.
And listen, this glow up lifestyle is not a religion, there's no bible of rules or values you have to hold yourself up to infallibly or you're out. What I and many other ambitious, lovely, go-getter ladies write about here on Tumblr are all guidelines and sensible advice to help you forward. The focus is to find what works for you. What helps you become your best self.
(PS: I used male/female gender dynamic because that is the focus of my blog, that is what I have experience with and as such can best advise on. But you can apply this regardless of gender dynamic or orientation.)
Hope this helps.
Much love,
Lumen

Editorial: The Othering
Note: This was started in february, well before the recording of Long Live Lacroix. I still firmly believe the written aspect of this has value, and decided to proceed forward with finishing this work.
The best place to start is with the truth, I suppose.
Hi folks, I’m trans. As to what flavor or label of trans, I’m unsure. But I’ve known nearly my entire life. I’ve lied to and denied myself that fact for as long. Though I’ve slowly begun to open up about that over the last year I’ve never come out publicly and stated it. Patrons first heard about it months ago on my series The Workshop, where speaking it aloud felt safe. There were fewer people there and they were folks I by and large trusted immensely.
This is my first time talking about who I am in full outside of my circle.
I think I was scared of doing that for a long time. But I’m getting too old, tired and angry to give a shit anymore. I’m trans. I’ve known my entire life. Though I may not have dared to type that word or talk about it until now, I’ve been open about it in my own way for seven years.
I did so with a face you all know and love. Someone many of you have written in and expressed immense admiration for. Someone that I’ve said on several occasions had the fates been kinder to me, you’d be addressing as Jen rather than Jack.
Jen, for lack of a better way to put it, is just me in a wig with a chest plate. Her words, ideas, thoughts and dialogue have always been my own behind a thin veneer of vocal effects. Jen wasn’t my first experience revealing this side to myself either-as I was a woman to an entirely different circle of people called Jacklin for nearly five years in my early twenties.
Surprise, or not, depending on who you are and your capacity to read intent.
I’m Trans.
And I’m tired of fighting you all about it.
I write today not only in hopes to firmly establish my identity outloud, but to also proclaim that the community at large (specifically its online component) has done a shit job at acknowledging people like me. We’re the lost folk of queerdom, and there’s not a single day that goes by that I feel safe either out in the world or with my own kind. Our experiences are outliers to the gender binary, something many of my siblings adhere to despite openly protesting it. While I am by no means unique in my perspective, I find the voices of my kin stifled every time we try to say something. Moreso if they’re minorities.
Queerdom and being queer isn’t a radical idea or position to take. There’s no “right” way to queer or trans, but the beauty of the spectrum is held in check by the dead weight of deeply rooted gender binary concepts, misogyny/misandry and racism. The online queer community has been placed in high chaos, violent times with unprecedented access to resources which allow us to draw attention to the suffering of our siblings.
Instead, they’ve used it to align themselves with the boots of fascist policies which are quickly running through the respective houses of government in the US and becoming law. The serpent inevitably eats its own tail, et al. Instead of using widely available technology to enable the greatest mutual aid network our species could conceive, I see it squandered by and large on intra community squabbles which invariably boil down to gossip and overblown popularity contests. Specifically at fault are the white queer americans, who have used their positions to preach to the rest of us about how we should be.
Which, before I go any further, I’d like to say the following to these types: There is no amount of gladhanding or appeals to law enforcement, government officials or religious leaders that will keep you out of the mass grave we’re on track to be buried within. The killing and curling of our kin is already happening. You directly aided that by thinking being “one of the good ones” would save you. You ignored the teachings of those that sacrificed themselves so that you could draw breath right now. Because of your efforts, here we are again with people denying Stonewall was a riot. With cops at Pride. With puritanical ideas running rampant once more, infecting the youth and the old with fascist, genocidal ideals.
And so the serpent eats it’s tail once more. But I digress.
I feel neither masculine nor femme, but another option entirely. This is popularly referred to as “non-binary”, but adhering to labels at all limits the beauty, depth and nuance I and others like me have come to find with our existence. Instead, we get wrote off in a thousand different ways under a thousand different names, which ultimately do nothing save fracturing the community and our identity further. The most damning thing is that this is often done without our consent, by people who think they understand us.
I’ve been called a “demi-man” simply because I’ve a five o’clock shadow one day. A “queen” simply because I took photos in a skirt. Despite going from “they-them” to “any pronouns” in a desperate attempt to assert myself, I still get called a man by my own community-often by well meaning queers as afraid of asking me to explain as they are of upsetting the Straights. It’s a means of silencing discussion and the human experience ingrained in us from birth by a culture that swallows propaganda daily.
I and others like me are out, but we’re not free. We’re seen but we’re not heard. The only time people do listen is when we yell, and then they give us as much space as their sensibilities as allies and siblings will allow. Because they seriously, genuinely thought slapping an enby flag on our forehead solved our problems instead of creating another form of pseudo-nationalist rhetoric.
The only time I felt liberation from the expectations of labels was within the trans community. It has faults of it’s own, bad actors and no shortage of those that want us dead. Speaking comparatively in my personal experience however, it by far aligns closer with my concept of identity than others. I feel more at home in the arms of my brothers, sisters and others than I ever did attempting to placate the rhetoric of the rest of the community.
A non-zero portion of the rest of you would be happy if we all just shut the fuck up though. The shackles of binary ideals muzzle what you know to be the truth-that we’re all queer uniquely, and I dare say “trans” by concept of stepping away from those binary norms.
It scares you. A lot. Because it upsets the comfort and protections you’ve secured by appealing to the same powers that want us dead.
Which is why it’s fine to have sacrificial lambs.
The Binary: An Anti-Humanist, Species Destroying Concept
Nothing is inherently gendered.
Absolutely nothing.
“Gender” as a concept is so inherently nebulous, so vague and general in so much that it’s applied to overlapping experiences and marketing. In of itself however, it is simply a word with no basis in physical reality. The concept of what’s a “man” and “woman” is ultimately a dialectic concept, conveyed through the equally nebulous concept of intention. Gender, in theory, should be “whatever the fuck I individually make it to be”.
Yet right now, there’s laws being pushed through congress and the senate that allow for the active genociding of anyone challenging the idea. As of this writing, there was a trans girl who was stabbed to death in the UK for expressing her identity. She won’t be the last of us killed just this month, nor is she alone in being a minor murdered for this. There’s thousands of years of historical precedence justifying our existence, yet that’s ignored so we can die by the hundreds every year at the alter of American conservatism and evangelical values.
For something that ultimately doesn’t exist. For a concept that should be treated with the same derision people have for organized religion or the idea of incorruptible governments.
Queers treat the gender binary as a yardstick with which to measure their human value. We talk of “passing” and “boy/girl moding” as beasts we have to satiate simply to piss where we want. Should any of our siblings not adhere to these ideals and concepts, we feast upon their being like a multi-course dinner. First comes the polite suggestions, the ribbing. The advice never requested about fashion, hair removal and more. When those fail we exile them, ostracize them. For desert, we use them and their existence as a boogeyman style warning to others.
“Hey, you don’t want to be like them right?”
The fact of the matter is, this is an abused, marginalized group perpetuating the abuse that was given to them in a desperate bid to hold power totally unavailable by any other means. We’re politically under-represented, out gunned and out matched by our oppressors everywhere else. So of course a section of us will use the same tactics to beat down anyone that doesn’t conform to some contextually sensitive, puritanical idea of what a “good queer” looks like.
The truth of such movements however is that they ultimately serve white supremacist, cis-het christian ideals. You can see the proof of this via the “LGB remove the T” movement, which recently has opted to remove/invalidate bisexual people as well. They’re perfectly fine with allowing members of the same struggle to die so long as their white, cis-het approved comfort is perpetuated. You’d think any level of awareness of our history whatsoever would show them what a dangerously deadly idea this is.
Yet, their goals aren’t simply exclusion/exile from the community-but rather to alter it’s trajectory as legitimate and established. Doing so allows them to control the narrative of the struggle, and therefore it’s history both backwards and forwards. Just like the very people that were content to send us to death camps during the 1940s. I’ve often called such people “casually evil”, and I can think of no better term to illustrate the mindset of white queer americans towards the struggles of anyone who isn’t them. The total disregard for inequality, human life and the voices of others is committed with the same casual disdain they give receiving a work email. BIPOC people and gender fuckers are a nuisance to their existence, as we’re a threat to the power grip of white american politics.
Adherence to the gender binary will be the death of all of us. Assuming that our identity is solely tied into how well we pantomime, how well we fit our clothes, how well we can shuck and jive will be death of us. Adherence to an outdated, static ideals that we fail to realize are a kinetic concept and always have been will be the death of us.
It behooves me to mention very specifically that the “LGB without the T” movement was started by two people that aren’t even queer. Bev Jackson and Kate Harris of the LGB alliance, aside from their hate/fear mongering rhetoric, ultimately seek to “redefine homosexuality” and thus retroactively invalidate all historical precedence for what is ultimately elimination of queer voices from public spaces and history. They boldly claim that queer children don’t exist among other things.
Hey, Bev and Kate-I was in the closet from the time I was ten. Literally nobody knew anything about my sexual identity or preferences until I was twenty-five. I masked a majority of my life if for no other reason than the threats to my young life were incredibly real. I know for a fact based on empirical evidence and conversations with others in this community I’m not the only one by a wide margin. We see what you’re doing and we’re wise to it. That’s why we fight you so hard, you daft, absolutely hideously evil cunts. Denying the existence of a marginalized group does not make us magically go away. There’s no amount of hand-wringing, whataboutisms and denial that can snap an entire group of people out of reality no matter how much you direly pray for our deaths.
Charity status doesn’t mean you’re not a hate group.
One legacy will significantly outlive the other.
Besides, don’t you have a court date to prepare for?
Wad Of Flesh, Slab Of Iron
I’m trans.
I have zero intention of getting on hormones.
I don’t care if I pass. The very concept of needing to do so makes me laugh.
I am stuck in a body I didn’t ask for in an existence I didn’t consent to on a planet that wants me dead.
I’m trans, and given the above, I will work with what I have.
I will take this heap of flesh covered in coarse body hair, this booming bass voice and I will pound away until it’s hard as iron. Until my shirt stretches across the flat-breasts that Gendered Society calls “pecs”, until I cry out in pain on the weight bench and beg god to kill me.
Then I’ll do another set. And another.
If I will be considered undesirable by the straights and othered by my own siblings, then I will lead by example. I will mold my body and torture my flesh into an ideal I can feel comfortable in, damned the consequences and pain it inflicts upon me.
Because nothing can hurt me more than you already have. Nothing can kill me in any meaningful way more than being given a smirk by people I thought were my found family, followed by the off-handed remark of “are you sureeeee you’re trans?”
Nothing I do to myself and my body will hurt anywhere near as much as the things you people have done to me, to people like me and to our BIPOC siblings.
I will do all of this because long after your ideals of what a queer should be have been defeated, be it by your own in-group fighting or the reality of existence, after you’re dead and quiet at last, I’ll still be here. Right alongside all the other “ne’er do wells” like me. It’s gonna be a hard road for all of us, and I’ve got to be strong enough to carry it with them. I’ve got to be strong enough to keep fighting all the others that tell us we shouldn’t exist, too.
I’m trans. I’m not unique in how I trans. There’s a lot of people like me.
There’s always been trans folks like me.
There will always be trans folks like me.
And some distant day, maybe in a world that looks like ours (or perhaps will be kinder), I hope to sit down in my old age with my siblings. I hope we can laugh and smile and the pain of the here and now is distant.
But until then.
I will lift.
I will fight.
I will grow stronger than you ever could have imagined I and others like me could be.
Because we’re trans, and we are powerful.
As for what to call me:
I’ve long since given up the struggle of being recognized.
Call me anything, I don’t care anymore.
But acknowledge me. Realize I exist.
Realized we exist.

TRUTH OUTSIDE OUR FEED
Kobe C. Atasan
BA Political Science
COMM 10
Contrary to popular belief, having an opinion is a major personal accomplishment. Speaking our minds exposes us to risk, especially if we are struggling with self-confidence. There is something to be said for developing our own convictions and upholding them, even though it may seem simpler to parrot popular viewpoints and appeal to the masses. Speaking our minds freely and kindly can give us a tremendous sense of inner strength and peace, whether we are reluctant to express our political opinions or personal preferences. Making a strong statement that contradicts the mainstream is one of the most liberating things we can do, despite the fact that it may seem scary.
We can't deny how evident the rise of technology has been over the years. Despite the gap made by the pandemic, we're even more connected with each other because of these technological advancements. Media Convergence has helped shape the way we communicate today, making it way easier for us to express ourselves to other people. Today, we are only a click away from sharing our views and opinions with a bigger audience which is made possible by social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, etc. Although this is a great power to have, it's also essential that we filter what we're going to share with the public, that it should be instructive and harmless.
I have always been a keen believer in "you are what you say." The words we use and the way we use them define who we are as a person. Yet, I also believe that we can always advocate against and disagree with the things we said in the past. Going back to the height of the 2022 Philippine elections, we cannot deny how social media played a crucial role in allowing supporters from different sides to advertise their chosen candidate. Yet, supporters of clear frontrunners Maria Leonor 'Leni' Robredo and Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. took the internet by storm throughout the election. While Leni's supporters were throwing out facts and shreds of evidence in every discussion, Marcos' loyalists were successful in disseminating lies and baseless videos across different platforms. It still baffles those well-informed how these made-up stories can easily manipulate people.
In sum, falsehoods, misinformation, and dubious claims are widespread and prevalent on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube. Even though fact-checking is done to combat misinformation, those who spread false information and the people who believe it attacks fact-checkers as well. If significant reforms are not made, this phenomenon of the bitter division between the truth and lies is likely to persist in the future.
It has now been 50 years since the start of Martial Law that inflicted nothing but suffering on the people, and one of its orchestrators is seated at the highest position in the country once again. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos was a force to be reckoned with when he decided to run for the seat during the 2022 Philippine elections. He brought with him nothing but his infamous last name, a strong sense of unity, reiterated throughout his campaign, and his ambition to twist everything that has happened during his father's regime. No one in their right mind would think that these three would win him the highest position in the country. Yet, his supporters proved the rest of the people wrong when he won by a landslide against his rivals.
No doubt our words do have the power to influence other people with their choices, making anyone who is not well-informed susceptible to manipulation. On the other hand, social media platforms should also start filtering what is accurate from not, as it should be an avenue for people to be informed of what is happening and what occurred. These platforms are designed to continuously feed us interesting content using an algorithm that purposefully favors the most relevant postings. This is how social media functions, and as a result, the echo chamber phenomenon flourishes. An echo chamber is a social media setting created by the previously mentioned algorithm that amplifies our opinions by placing us in a bubble that only contains people who share them. It is our duty as citizens of the country to aggressively seek the truth outside of our feed despite the corrupt system in today's media.

We indians belong to a tropical country, so blessed with sunlight all the year round in some provinces, geographically at an advantage. Yes , extremities prevail in the north, the south enjoys what's called an airconditioned climate, so what ails us ?, the times are bad, easy to blame something...anything, it's climatic change the environmentalists say, to me, dare I say it aloud, we prove to be the bane of our own existence, it all stems from muffled voices, smothered and stifled all for nothing, 'live in the present for yesterday is history and tomorrow is news'- wise words, but we venerate , we honor, we surpass ourselves, what for?, in the quest for the unknown, the elitist heaven reserved only for the pious, truth-sanctimonious fools they be, today we are guaranteed of, live today, and if at all you fear the unknown i.e what is to become of us ones we die, if you are concerned that we are answerable for our sins in this life, buy that assurance through your deeds, remember even if you do no right it is okay so long as you do no wrong, I dare not be explicit or shall I, the world has condoned evil thus far, paid no heed to the warning bells, and the story unfolded before your eyes, I had tried to not stress on that , anyhow I think the worst is behind us, the new variants of the virus aren't lethal, the real reason is a mystery still, there are inferences, logical deductions and patterns, particularly the dates point to 'us', the victims, negative vibes, perhaps it set off nature, for nature is both friend and foe, while on the one hand it sustains us, keeps us fed, it being the source of all abundance, on the other hand it becomes vindictive, perhaps in solidarity with the victims, nature that makes you want to sing on a glorious afternoon, the next minute it abounds in a destructive energy so keenly felt in recent times, we deal with this , how ? If i might be so bold, what did anybody ever do to help me or the others who kept it all bottled up, they dare not say 'nay' for fear, what's bottled up will be let out one day, and this is rightful indignation, yes a mild word for what transpired, but we have to forgive and forget, watch and wait, I wish though, I had steered clear of it all, again you see what happened, while I am a nonconformist to the core, for instance you will never find me wanting to do the ' in' thing, or follow the trends, I did take the wrong turn, some more research, cross checking and verification of facts would have convinced me to the contrary. Now regarding education, the western world might not be aware, here it's cool to be an engineer or doctor irrespective of your aptitude, for this is a station of life society respects, its not like people from all walks of life are held in high regard, science is in fashion, it has to do with upping your status quotient, they sell their land if it can guarantee them a seat, so I never wanted to follow suit, for i had marked out for myself something suited for me, something straight forward, manageable, easy on you, that would pose less of a challenge, but I don't deny that I was adamant about wanting to pursue education abroad, my mom gave me the idea when I was very young, you see she had saved up on dollars for this express purpose as she told me in middle school and when I asked her to make good on it way before the decision making came up she refused, I lost interest in life itself , i was young and too temperamental, it needed someone very positive to put me back on track, and it just might have saved my life, however i declined. Let bygones be bygones says popular wisdom, so we make peace with the past, can we solve this riddle?, untie the knot?, there's even a saying 'as right as rain'. It is only right that there be ' calm after a storm' for it is unprecedented, has surpassed standards, the normal permissible limits , become paranormal, we erred but can we get a respite, bail us out.

A Short Story I wrote many moons ago........
Waterproof Mascara
You know when it’s lashing rain? And you’re choiceless but to go into town due to prearranged arrangements? You get wet and you start shaking out? The rain just keeps coming and you get soaked to the skin and it starts to really hurt. Just pain whenever you move anything because you’re so frozen? After a while your hands and toes and belly and nose goes numb and you can still see the rain falling on your hands but you don’t feel it? Ya, that’s exactly how I felt right now, numb all over. Like an angle who’s wings have been clipped.
I was desperately tearing apart my memories to find one of us I could disappear into, to get away from this one that was being created right before my eyes, when his persistent voice broke through my struggle. I forced myself to focus on his voice, a voice I had for ages recognised with comfort. “I’m sorry” he barely whispered. I despised that cliché crap, a bitter laugh escaped my lips, the irony hadn’t I uttered the same words in the same situation? Cliché’s are cliché’s for a reason we have to we choke them out when there’s nothing else to say.
I wrapped my arms around myself, a poor, failing attempt to stop myself from shivering, to stop myself from running into his arms , to hold myself together and not depend on him to do it like so many times before and to make sure I still excised, that I hadn’t…… vanished? Disappeared? Fallen to pieces? That the ground hadn’t opened up and swallowed me up? No such luck. I didn’t need this now, I thought I was as low as low could go that’s why I had met up with him in the first place, but there’s never a good time is there?
I felt the second part of heart shatter as I realised I would have to face this head on, on my own, my legs went to jelly, I refused to fall, I denied every urge to fall apart in his arms a battle going on between my dignity , the fact I was a adult of 2weeks and the scared sad not wanting to live anymore part of me, I blinked and to my disgust felt my eyes burn and my throat scream in agony, every second I denied the tears to fall my throat was on fire and burning harder, it felt like it was bleeding blood leaking back into my body and my body desperate to release the pain through tears. I despised crying in front of people and I certainly didn’t want to cry in front of him I had to keep it together but my vision was becoming blurry and as with most things in life I was damned if I do and damned if I don’t, if I blinked the tears would fall and if I didn’t they would just spill anyway.
I turned my head to the right I didn’t want him to see the mess mascara made. I should have checked if it was waterproof, but then again I didn’t think there would be any cause for it today. Its funny how the mind works when you don’t need hear what’s being said or you can’t deal with it right now, your mind will wander to odd thoughts to distract you for a while like the mess mascara makes or how I hate movies they tell lies beautiful lies in all fairness and no matter what you told when you six, lies hold society and all too often people together.
Even without being told a lie ourselves will turn the unacceptable truth into a acceptable lie, the sad truth is the truth is sad and yes lies are bad so its all too often a choice we must make. So in movies when the girl cries it makes them look more pretty and the guy will fall all the more in love with her and its so graceful and sweet when in reality your make up runs, you go bright red, you make horrible whiney noises which I believe is the noise of your dignity leaving, your nose runs and you don’t have a tissue so you have to use your sleeve or just let if run and quite frankly your disgusting.
As I stood there in this state with my head to right, he pretended I wasn’t crying and I saw him out of the corner of my eyes examine his shoes if I had the emotions to spare I would feel sorry for him. I wanted more than anything at that moment for him to stupidly say GOT YA I wouldn’t even be mad we just laugh and walk away and forget this ever happened but he didn’t …..…
As he awkwardly hugged me goodbye, I didn’t want to let go. He pulled away from quiet simply taking my world with him, I watched him walk away and after he turned the corner I still stared but didn’t really see anything.
A thought hit me, I would get a few hours piece before I would have it enter my mind again but it hit me there and then and it hit me hard…..I didn’t have a clue how to organise a funeral

“Story’s based on a request from a Nonnie and they are right! Our Xiao needs hugs and rest a bit.”
Words: 1910
Genre: fluff, f!reader
Xiao is always keeping things for him. He will never seek company to share his burdens. After all, there is no trouble which will last long enough, he says. However he can't deny there are moments when he is fed up. Be it the never ending war he fights or his own problems. Which are having roots back in history.
Sometimes there's too much to handle at once, yet he stands tall and faces it headon. Never argues or falters with decisions. As long as it means he can protect Liyue.
To anyone who has never seen him or rarely, he looks like a strong and cold man. But is he really like this? He is an Adeptus, he has seen a lot and experienced some battle scars. Was Xiao always like this? Back in the days when all other Yaksha existed.
Many things happened in his life. He can't even count or remember it all. But all those things made him who he is now. Although there are things which still surprise or confuse him.
He never liked showing himself in front of mortals. There are just a few ones which he tolerates or even allows to talk to him. If he is in a good mood of course. The ones who know Xiao also know about keeping distance when he is upset.
But there's one mortal whose boldness or maybe stupidity never ceases to amaze him. He told you so many times to leave him be, added harsh words and yet... you didn't turn away. Instead approached and offered a companionship.
He eventually gave up with chasing the silly female away. At first he didn't know why she was so stubborn. Mortals are strange but you are like one or two levels stranger than anyone else. Just why do you wish to spend time with somebody like him?
You are like a bridge between the silent and closed up Adeptus and mortal realm. Part of him is still hesitant and refuses to share his burdens. He might have allowed you to stay beside him, be it in silence or tell him what you did that day. What strange things happened or something. He would just sit there and listen. But none of this means he will let his guard down. He will always be fully aware of what's happening around.
You are often asking yourself: does he ever rest? As you know him for a while you are able to recognize when he is really sad and you shouldn't say much. Or when he is quite alright and willing to listen to your rambling until you fall asleep. The fact you can peacefully sleep in Xiao's presence amazes him.
Today is one of those nights when he would have preferred to be just alone. But why does he feel this burning desire to pay you a visit? Is it because you didn't come for a few days and he got worried? No. That can't be it. Xiao has no attachment to anybody, especially mortals.
Truth to be told, he feels tired and despite feeling the way he feels. He decides to silently knock on your door. At first he thought he knocked too lightly. For a brief second he thought to himself to leave. Why is he here anyway? But then he heard your footsteps from behind the door.
He feels so conflicted. He shouldn't be here, seeking anyone's company. Solitude and sadness are nothing to him.
When you open the door of your apartment, the cold is immediately making you shiver. Not wasting any second grabbing Xiao's wrist and pulling him inside. The cold is too much for you. How the heck he can just stand there and not shiver?!
Be it anyone else touching him, he would have asked them if they do have a death wish. He got used to your touch at least a bit. You sometimes gently squeezed his hand in a friendly gesture. To assure him you are there, willing to listen to anything or just sit silently and observe the sky.
Letting go of his wrist and looking into his golden eyes. As usually his expression is the same but you can feel he is not alright. His shoulders are unusually down and overall his posture is different.
"Is something wrong?"
You ask with a slightly tilted head to the side. You are not even aware of this, you do it automatically all the time. It's kind of cute but don't expect the Adeptus will say it out loud. He is already confused. He wanted to be alone, why did he come here. He is clearly delaying your bedtime. He should have never come. But the words escaping his lips are even more confusing him.
"You didn't come..."
Is he really worried about a mortal? Didn't he promise to himself to never get any attachment to anyone? Not even to another Adepti.
Your next move is really bold and unexpected. Xiao gasps in surprise as you wrap your arms around him.
"Y/n? What are you...?"
Perhaps embracing him would not be the brightest idea if you consider how little he knows about human interactions. But you couldn't help yourself. Feeling a bit guilty for making the poor man worried. He already has a lot on his plate.
"I'm sorry if I did worry you."
You said as you gently rubbed his back, drawing circles in a soothing manner.
It took him a while to realize what was going on. He seen this act between other mortals but never cared what does it mean. It's just two people are in close proximity, touching each other. But there's something strange about the act.
Your warmth.
He didn't feel cold while being outside, he is used to it. But when he feels your warmth he can't help it but feel a bit at ease. When you pull back to check on him, he feels a little... sad? Perhaps he missed the opportunity to repay the act.
"You know. There's something I had noticed about you, Xiao."
He lifts an eyebrow at you. Unable to contain the curiosity.
"How much do you trust me?"
You ask while trying to keep your smile. Aware of how much the question doesn’t make sense with what you said before.
Xiao on the other hand is pondering over your question. How much does he trust a mortal like you? And why are you asking him in the first place?
"That's stupid thing to ask. You should have known the answer already."
There we go again. Xiao and his not so sugar coated words. Surely you know he has at least a bit more trust in you than other humans. But would he let you touch him even more? No matter how you put it, it will sound wrong.
"Well then... it just crossed my mind out of nowhere but. Uh... There's something that always bugged me. Do you ever rest or relax at all? I mean yes you do just hang around at Wangshu here and now. But I mean like a real rest..."
You had to stop yourself. Feeling how your monologue was getting worse by each said word.
"I don't need to-"
"Yes, you do."
Oh no. It slipped out faster than you could think of it. He is silent, eyes slightly narrowed. Did you anger him? It's quite easy to do it after all.
"What do you propose then?"
"Eh?"
"Don't 'eh' at me. If you think I need to relax then you should have an idea how."
You are finally on the same page. Sometimes you hate your brain to jump into way too fast conclusions. You motion for him to follow you to your living room where you both sit on the sofa. Telling him to sit turned back to you.
You are sitting behind him. What are you planning? Ah! A gasp escaped his lips making him feel embarrassed. You just barely touched his shoulders. Not even using too much force, just a gentle squeeze to test waters.
"So, can I give you something that my mom calls a medicine for tired muscles?"
A simple massage. Just by a single touch you could feel how tense his muscles are. He nods. Being glad you can't see his face now. Biting his bottom lip. He didn't know how much his back actually hurts. Not paying attention to it anymore. But now, he is melting under your touch.
You try to be gentle but also applying some pressure to help his muscles to relax. You had learned how to massage when you were teen as your mother always had back pain from her work. This was the fastest help, along with pain killers.
Xiao deeply exhales, closing his eyes. He hates to admit it but this feels good, maybe too good. Perhaps he could let his guard down for a bit, at least for now. Letting your skilled fingers caress him. Exhaustion and fatigue is slowly getting under his skin. And this warm feeling, he wants more. Just like when you embraced him a while ago.
You noticed how much he relaxed under your hands. You can't help it but smile from ear to ear. The mighty Guardian, always so rigid can't endure the pleasant feeling.
"If you are tired you can sleep over, I don't mind. Unless... you have plans to mess up your back just right when I fix them up?"
You had secretly hoped he wouldn't disappear when you are done. You know when he leaves your place he will go back to his stiff attitude again.
"Somebody has to keep you safe at night. Take it as a payment..."
You giggle as he says that. You could tease him about admitting he likes this but decided to rather not.
When you were done and brought him a spare blanket you noticed his blush. Not saying anything and just offering the warm cover. What you did not expect was him grabbing your wrist.
"Xiao?"
"How can... I keep you safe if you are in the other room?"
Oh damn. Your brain is preoccupied with why he just won't admit he wants to keep you close.
"Um, you want to move the sofa into my bedroom?"
He groans. Why you must play dumb now? All he wants is more of your warmth. When you embraced him, when you touched him. He felt at ease  which is new to him. Is it too much to ask for more? Well, maybe he should actually ask and be straight for once.
"Just... stay close."
"Oh-"
That escalated quickly. For both of you. You decided to spare him from more suffering as you could see his face was slowly turning to tomato color. And you? You weren't much better. Turning off the lights before sliding under the blanket. For once being glad to have a bigger sofa.
As you are both laying on your sides you feel Xiao's hand hesitantly go over you to pull you closer to him. Don't even think of escaping when he falls asleep. He has you secure. And certainly he won't admit any of this the next morning.
He is tired and confused by his behavior but he decided to blame it on his fatigue. You better don't mention any of this. Not even the way he is having a firm grip of your clothes. Or how quickly he fell asleep.

A little check in on Lawyer! George
Warnings: Smut (18+) pussy slapping, sir kink, just porn with little to no plot (?).
a/n: Sorry I haven’t posted anything but mental health sucks sometimes and mine as been in pieces. This a little check in on Lawyer George. Also for anyone reading I will probably write other stuff that is not Fred or George. But doesn’t belong in the harry potter world. I’m very into Loki and bucky and steve rogers from the mcu world so yeah :) i will keep doing stuff for them to. just adding a little bit of spice. Also sorry for any mistakes!
This is based on this story.
In a lifetime, a lot of things can happen. y/n just never thought that for her it would be the fact that she’s dating one of the most successful lawyers England has ever seen, or that she would sleep with him, spend so much time at his apartment that it’s also now kinda of hers…
But it happened to her. And it wasn’t easy. Although they had Fred’s approval, when word got around in the office, things got hard for her. The gossip became harsh and eventually some people who worked closely with y/n turned on her because ‘she was sleeping with her boss’. It took her a while to grasp her new reality, but the truth was, she was head over heels for the ginger boy, and if people around her couldn’t understand they were in love, then let them be. If there was someone who was good at separating work from relations was her. After their heated encounter in Fred’s office, it never happened again in the work place. There were times where it was close calls, but it was all George’s fault given his cock was hard twenty for seven, given he had to look at the woman he loved work hard, and effectively and honestly that was a big turn on for him.
But y/n always stopped before it could get any more heated. Always excusing herself with a ‘I’m sorry sir’ and then turning around to go on her way, shamefully hiding her smirk from her boss, who had to stand in the middle of whatever place they were in, hard, and sweaty from their heated make out session.
George never quit trying tho. Even in the days y/n came to the office from his home, and they probably had some time together that morning, he just couldn’t get enough of her.
“y/n, thank you. Would mind just reminding George of the meeting we have in ten? He’s been a little lost today.” Fred said, looked at y/n for a mere moment to take the documents she was giving him and then looked at his work again. Cases had been flooding non stop ever since they had win one of the biggest cases ever. y/n, now a permanent lawyer at the firm was more than happy about it.
She smirked a little, taken the fact that Fred wasn’t looking then turned to walk to the door.
“Sure boss.” She joked, hearing Fred groan at the name. Then, as smoothly as she could went to George’s office, knocked on the door, and didn’t even expect an answer before barging in.
Only to catch her boyfriends with a hand on top of his pants massaging his hard cock. She then had confirmation that the outfit she chose did do it’s wonders. She always wore suits, but usually the blouses she wore underneath were work appropriate, but recently and after talking to a friend outside work she thought she would change a bit, make it a little harder on him. After all, she’d taken notice how much more intense their sexual encounters would be. Today with her suit she chose a lace black body, it was still work appropriate, specially in the way she did her suit jacket, but George had definitely seen it this morning when it was not so appropriate.
“See your brothers right, then.” She closed the door behind her, and rested her body against it with her hands behind her back, looking at George, with his head back, and his hand almost squeezing his cock had hard as he could.
“Baby.” He sighed loudly, his head turning to look at her his hand still in the same place. “You look…” he couldn’t finish is thought, she was consuming everything in him. His thoughts, and now his scent given she was just a few meters away. “Please help me.”
“You know I won’t baby, but you can always help yourself.” She smiled, walking closer to his desk and leaning on the other side of it, her breasts came into better view.
George had always understood why she didn’t want to it, but today when she had chosen this outfit out of all the others he couldn’t help but get more frustrated.
“You can’t do this to me y/n you know that.” Dominance had taken over his voice a little bit more. He took his hand out of his cock, and then got up. She stiffened, turning her head to the side to see him come up to her. His hands came on either side of her arms and squeezed. “Walking around in that lacy body, no bra, unbuttoning it only when I’m around, knowing people around here know about us. You know what you’re doing, and yet...” he came closer, his breathing in her neck, she shivered. “yet you still don’t let me take you.” He kissed her just on the spot he knew she liked. “Right here baby, on my office, in my desk, I’ll make it quick, you know it.” His voice was raspy, filled with list.
y/n was close to loosing it, her voice already trembling. “F-fred said you have a meeting in ten. He a-asked me to w-warn you.” Her hands that supported her body on the tip of the desk turned white from the force she was putting on them.
“Great then, I have ten minutes to make us both cum baby, do you think I can do it?” One of his hands came to unbutton her jacket and then came down a little bit more and stopped at her pants, asking for permission.
In that moment y/n knew she couldn’t hide it. It had been always hard to deny him in the work place. It had been so good when they did it the first time, she had just gotten so paranoid with everyone else, to think about how good they both had felt.
“Please, sir.” She murmured, body coming to meet his. George took the hand close to her pants and forced her body down against the desk. Their back turned to the door, that was unlocked.
“You will stay like this, and you will take my cock and make no sound, understood baby?” he whispered raspy. “Can’t have some noise asshole coming in here seeing the way I’m ruining you.”
“Yes, sir.” y/n’s hands had come up to rest next to her head. George took no time and undoing her pants pulling her underwear down, while also taking a look at the wet spot they had.
“How long have you been wet?” He asked, she didn’t answers right way, the coolness of the air of the office hitting her wet, hot pussy was to much for in such a vulnerable state. He slapped her pussy, not hard, just enough and the way she liked it to have her body squirm beneath him. “I said, how long had this pussy been wet?” he had to control the tone in his voice to not become so loud that anyone passing outside the door could hear.
“Since this morning, sir.” She murmured.
He laughed, jokingly at her. “This morning? You pathetic little baby, wet since this morning? And what made you wet ahm?”
“You sir, wet from the shower.” She said above a whisper, her pussy so wet her juices were starting to cover her pussy lips and coming down her inner thigh. George brings his hand again close to her pussy and plays with her clit, thumbing around it, playing with it before giving it a slight pinch making her moan. He slaps it again, but not hard, just as a waring.
“I said, be quiet.” He heard her little ‘sorry sir’ and then continued the assault on her pussy. Two of his fingers circling her wet entrance before thrusting in hard, brushing her g-spot making y/n bite her knuckles to contain her moans. George’s fingers had always stretched y/n out the best way possible, and they were long enough to hit the spots only her vibrator could, but never her own little fingers. George always teased her about it.
George twists his fingers in just the right way to caress her velvety walls in the way he knows she likes, and then scissors his fingers inside her making her knees buckle and shake.
“S-sir please.” She murmured.
“Baby, so little time and so many things I wanna do to you. I always do you know it don’t you?” She nodded. “You always love my fingers, you always love to fuck yourself on them. You love to suck on them like you suck on your favorite lollie… my cock.” She clenched hard on his fingers from his dirty words and George let out a small moan at the feeling. “And I always have to stretch you baby, you are always just the snuggest little thing ever. Always.” He had been avoiding with his fingers her g-spot, just to make her more needier for him, but this times he hits continuously, make y/n have to hold her moans by biting hard on her lip. Her pussy spasmed around his fingers warning him of her orgasm. He pulls out, his fingers covered in her juices, and spreads it around her pussy, bringing them to his mouth to taste her.
“Always taste the best dirty girl.” He smirks, and then brings his hands to undo the belt of his pants pulling it down, along with his boxers making his cock spring free. His cock had been hard since he entered the office this morning minutes after his girlfriend, and so by now and after having his finger in her pussy, he his licking from his tip, he his read and swollen and twitching from the pleasure.
He rests one hand on her back to keep her in that position while the other comes to his cock, strokes it two times before bringing it close to her pussy and thrusting inside her. Her pussy engulfs his cock, tightens around him as he sinks himself as deep inside her as he can. He thrusts into her over and over again, his cock being hugged by her smooth and velvety skin makes him groan lowly, the hand on her back dents her skin there because he also has to be quiet and it’s hard when she feels so good.
“Just, the dirtiest pussy, baby.” He whispers, the sound of his balls hitting her filled pussy it’s all that can be heard in the office and for a moment she’s scared people outside can hear it. But George’s dirty words and his movements take that thought way just as quickly as it came. Her hips push back to meet his making him bottom out on her, and he stops for a moment, and so does she, both trying to remain calm and quiet but he’s completely inside her and it feels too good for both of them.
“Please, George, fuck me, hard.” She tries t say it quietly but her voice breaks around moans.
He doesn’t answer and just gains his force again to keep fucking his cock in her soaked pussy, that’s so wet squelching sounds can start to be heard.
“You are so close baby.” He says, his hand coming to gather at her head forcing it down on the table. “Squeezing me nice and tightly like you can, letting me know I’m owning this pussy just right.”
And that’s when y/n explodes around him, she tightens so much that she pushes his cock out of her, her body quivers all over and the tips of her fingers tremble form the orgasm, trying to hold onto to something. George forces his cock back inside, chasing his own orgasm that’s even closer now that he just saw his girl cum the way she did. He doesn’t need much time, just the right movements and the squeezing of her pussy and he’s emptying himself inside her. y/n almost cuming again from how intense and hot his orgasm is. And how he groans close to her ear, her name, and the pet names he as reserved to her.
He pulls out, cock now soft and all wet from her juices and his cum, her pussy ruined but fulfilled and smiles on both his faces.
“What were you scared of exactly?” He asks after a while trying to regain his composure.
It takes a bit longer for /n to come back from the place she was in. She was still laying on his desk and George had to bring her up carefully, he kissed her jaw and then slowly turned her to him. She was ruined and he would have been worried were it not for the smile on her face.
“I love you.” That’s all her brain could master. More words than that was hard, and after anything they did y/n always felt immense love for the man in front of her.
“I’m taking that as a ‘we’re doing it again’ no?” he said, smugness evident in his voice. With the force she had she slapped his chest.
“Yes.” She murmured resting her head on his chest. “And you’re late to the meeting, lucky Fred didn’t barge in here or anyone else and saw what we were doing.”
“You mean, me fucking the life out of this pussy and claiming it as mine?”
“George, you’re disgusting.” She said, but they both knew she was playing.

Casey Novak x F!Reader - Reader is being “protected” by the mafia and when the SVU tries to get her to work with them, the mafia lashes out.
Warnings: Violence, Financial troubles, break ins, threats, blood.
I hope you enjoy!
That morning started like any other. You got up and started breakfast, only to be interrupted by the patter of little feet running towards you. You smiled and turned to see the smiling face of your two-year-old bounding at your legs. Crouching down, you caught the laughing child and spun her around before balancing her on your hip while you continued to scramble the eggs in the pan.
“What do you think, baby? Eggs and pancakes for breakfast?” You asked the little one in your arms.
The girl in your arms giggled again and nodded her head as you set to work getting breakfast finished. When everything was cooked, you set your daughter down in her chair and got the plates together. As you sat down by her and got ready to help her cut up her pancakes, there was a knock at the door. You kissed your daughter’s forehead and went to the door, checking the peephole before cautiously opening the door.
“Hello ma’am, my name is Olivia Benson and I’m with the Special Victims Unit. Were you aware that there’s been a series of break ins in your neighborhood?” The woman in front of you spoke with an official voice.
You were taken aback, “Break ins? Is everyone ok?”
The woman gave you a sympathetic look, “Unfortunately no, there have been a few attacks.”
Shock jolted through you. You had moved to the neighborhood for the safety that it provided. You hadn’t had the best of luck in your past, but this was supposed to be a fresh start.
“I’m sorry, I had no idea. I haven’t noticed anything unusual.” You managed to sputter out.
At that moment, your daughter let out a cry and you gave the officer a guilty look. “I’m so sorry, I have to get my daughter, you caught us in the middle of breakfast.”
Olivia gave you a nod, “That’s fine, go take care of her. But ma’am, if you think of anything, or see anything, please don’t hesitate to call,” she produced a business card and handed it to you.
You nodded and took the card, as you headed back into your house.
As you closed the door, you turned the card over in your hands before placing it on the table by the door and heading back to feed your daughter.
You had only just cut the pancake into a few more pieces when your phone pinged.
Boss: Who was that at your door?
Y/N: The cops, apparently there’s been some break ins around the neighborhood and a couple of people have been attacked. They were asking if I had seen anything.
Boss: I see. Have you seen anything?
You suddenly felt a pit in your stomach. Something didn’t feel right as you typed out your response.
Y/N: Honestly, no. I didn’t know that anything had been happening.
There was a long pause before your phone pinged again.
Boss: Good. I’m glad you haven’t had any issues.
Boss: I need you to come in for a meeting later today. 1:00, at the diner.
Y/N: I’ll see you there.
You turned back to your daughter and gave her a tight-lipped smile as you tried not to show her you were nervous. As you both finished breakfast, you got your daughter out of her chair and placed her in her playroom where she immediately went for the stuffed animals in the corner. While she created her own world with her stuffed animals, you sat in the rocking chair and tried not to think about what was to come that afternoon.
While you were trying not to think of your day, other thoughts started to intrude. Memories of how you met this man started to creep in.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
It was about three years ago; you had just been kicked out of your apartment due to not being able to pay your bills, and you were struggling. Your parents lived out of the country, and you couldn’t stay with them. Then you found out you were pregnant. That was your breaking point.
He found you when you came into a diner, looking for a cup of tea and maybe something to eat. You needed to warm up, the weather in New York could be unforgiving, and you had to keep yourself going, not just for yourself, but for the little bean growing inside you.
You had gone up to the counter and ordered, pulling out loose change and some crumpled bills to pay the waitress. You enjoyed the warmth of the diner as you waited for your food, unaware of the man in the corner booth watching you.
When your meal came out, you started eating. When you were about halfway done, you felt the presence of a someone sit next to you. You slowly looked up and saw that a man was looking down at you.
“Can I help you?” You asked as you wiped your mouth off with a napkin.
The man gave a short laugh, “Actually dear, I think it is I that can help you. You look like you’re in need of a place to stay, maybe a shower, and a few hot meals.”
You couldn’t deny that sounded nice, but you were hesitant. How could you trust this man, he could be trying to lure you away to cut you up and dump your remains in the river.
The man must have seen the hesitation in your face because he gave a boisterous laugh and smiled at you, “Trust me child, I mean you no harm, I just want to help you in these trying times.”
You rolled your eyes, “My momma always said, ‘Never trust anyone who says, “Trust me.”’ What makes you any different?”
The man looked you in the eye, suddenly very serious. “I never go back on my word. It’s very important to be a man of my word.”
You looked at him and you knew he was telling the truth. You were still hesitant, but you nodded. “I need help. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. I lost my apartment, which led to me losing my job. I didn’t have anywhere to go, so I’ve been living out of my car. And to top it all off I’m having a kid. I’ve been lucky enough to go to a free clinic to keep myself health, but I can’t do that forever.”
You found yourself telling this man everything. You couldn’t control it, it was basically word vomit, but when you were done, you looked up at him. He was nodding slightly and giving you a sympathetic look.
You suddenly didn’t have an appetite and pushed the plate away. The man reached into his pocket and pulled out money, putting it by your plate. He gently put his arm around you and led you out of the diner and into a very nice car that was waiting at the curb.
The man’s name turned out to be David, and he explained that he was the leader of an underground organization. You later learned this was code for he the leader of the mafia in Manhattan, that fact should have scared you away, but you were being taken care of. You knew that there was illegal activity happening, but you had been promised that so long as you stayed quiet, you’d be taken care of. This meant that you had the best medical attention, you had been able to move into a house, and you were able to raise your beautiful daughter in peace.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
And now you were being called back in by The Boss.
As the meeting time drew closer, you called your daughter’s babysitter and got everything set up for her to come over to watch her while you stepped out.
The knock on your door startled you. There was still time before your meeting, so you knew it wasn’t your babysitter.
Opening your door, you saw the same detective as before, but this time she was joined by a tall, muscular man.
“Sorry ma’am, we were just in the neighborhood recanvasing, and we just wanted to see if you had remembered anything from the past few days.” The man spoke this time, and his voice was comforting, but there was a sense of urgency about it.
Dread hit you like a ton of bricks, and you shook your head quickly. “I’m sorry, I haven’t remembered anything.  Now, please, I have to get ready for a meeting.”
You backed away and shut the door in their faces, turning quickly and going to your daughter. You made sure that she had everything that she would need for her time with the babysitter.
Eventually it was time to go to the diner. You kissed your daughter’s face and said your goodbyes, pausing by the door and slipping the detectives card in your pocket before you headed to your car and left for the diner.
After a short drive, you arrived at the diner and pulled into the lot. Climbing out of your car, you headed inside. The diner was eerily quiet and almost completely empty, minus a few staff and David in the corner booth with a large henchman standing beside the booth. David gestured to the other side of the booth, and you slid in. Taking your place in front of him, you looked him in the eyes and tried to not let your fear be too apparent.
David nodded at you. “I wanted to talk to you about some things that are going on around you. As you are now aware, your neighborhood has become a bit of a hotbed for criminal activity. I want you to know that you are completely safe. No harm will come to you. Some of the boys are just tying up some loose ends, but again, you have nothing to worry about. But, understandably, we’d appreciate it if you could keep it hush hush, you understand right?”
You looked at the man in front of you and gulped, slowly nodding. “I understand. But, why are you telling me this? I didn’t know anything about it.”
David grinned at you, a grin that gave you the heebie jeebies, “Think of this as a test. If you keep the secret, everything will continue to be fine. If you squeal,” he paused, “well, hopefully, you don’t have to find out what happens if you squeal.”
You felt all the color drain out of your face and you nodded again. “Of course. I can keep the secret. My daughter and I, we owe you our lives.”
David gave you a short nod, “That’s what I hoped to hear. You can go but remember what I said.”
You gave David a weak smile and all but bolted out of the booth and out to your car. Frantically, you pulled out of the parking lot and headed to one of your favorite bars, needing a drink after what you had just gone through.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
As you sat at the bar, you looked at the drink in front of you, trying to process what you had just been told. It all was just too much, and you were having trouble processing it. One of your hands rested by the glass while the other fiddled with the detective’s card in your pocket. Knowing what you should do, you found yourself pulling out the card and studying the letters and numbers intently.
Finally, you built up the courage and pulled out your phone, stepping away from the bar you typed in the phone number. After a few moments on the phone, you nodded and headed back to the bar, paying for your drink and leaving the building.
When you arrived at the Manhattan SVU precinct, your eyes immediately found Olivia and you went over to her. She ushered you into a room with another woman sitting at the table.
“Hello, Y/N, my name is Casey, Olivia has already told me a bit about what is going on, but, I’d like to go over it again with you.”
You nodded and sat at the table with Olivia and Casey. Taking a deep breath before telling them everything. By the time you finished telling them what was happening, you were in tears.
Casey reached across the table and gave your hand a squeeze. “With your help, we’re going to catch these bastards, and they’re going to go away for a long time. Olivia and I have already talked about it, and you’ll be getting police protection until this is done.”
You gave her a slight smile and squeezed her hand slightly. “Thank you, I just want this to be over with.”
The two women walked with you to the entrance of the precinct and you thanked them both again.

The last thing you remembered after leaving the SVU was heading back to your apartment. You had been looking forward to seeing your daughter after being away from her all day. You had told the babysitter that you would be home late, but you assured her you would be able to cover her extra time. You opened the door to your house to see nothing but darkness. Calling out the babysitter’s and your daughter’s name with no answer. Grabbing your key and pulling out your phone, you started to dial Casey’s number, then it all went black.
When you awoke, you found yourself in a dark room with your hands and feet bound to a chair in the middle of a room. There was a table in front of you and a large man in an ill—fitting suit sitting across from you.
“So, Miss Y/L/N, my boss was under the impression that we had an understanding. You keep your mouth shut and we keep you and your daughter safe. Imagine how upset our boss was to find out that you were talking to that lady ADA. Tell me, what did you talk to her with?” The man in front of you let out a sickening grin.
“I promise,” you pleaded with the man, “I didn’t say anything about you, they were curious about a string of break ins. Nothing to do with your organization at all. Please, where is my daughter, she and her babysitter were gone. I need to know they’re safe, please.”
The man looked at you, unfazed, as your pleas fell on deaf ears.
“Believe me, miss. Everything will turn up the way it is supposed to be in the end. Just you wait.” The man got up from the table and walked out the door as you struggled against your bindings, pleading for your daughter and her babysitter.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
When Casey got the phone call from you, she was confused. You had just left the building and you couldn’t have made it very far, so why not just come back inside? She quickly understood why when she answered the phone. She heard you struggling in the background and immediately got Olivia.
The two women quickly rallied the troops and explained the situation. Thankfully, you had given them a list of places that David and his goons liked to do their business, so the team split up to check them all.
Casey followed Liv to her car and got in without saying a word. She needed to help find you. There was something about you that made Casey need to make sure you were ok.
As the Liv and Casey made it to the diner, Casey noticed a torn piece of fabric on a branch around the side of the building. Liv called in for backup and then followed the worn path to the back of the building where the door of a storm shelter sat, unlocked with a rock propping the door open.
Casey heard another car pull in and within moments, Elliot was there beside his partner. Olivia motioned for Casey to wait outside while they ventured into the shelter.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
You sat there in the chair, head lolling from the force of so many punches. You could feel the blood dripping from the multiple lacerations to your face. You were certain that your hand was broken, and the clothes you had been wearing were sliced and torn till there was nothing left.
You tried to tell the men that you hadn’t done anything wrong, that all you wanted was your daughter, but somehow, they knew. They had followed you to the bar and then when you went in to talk to Olivia and Casey. They told you that they had bugged your phone, so they heard everything when you had called to schedule a meeting with them.
As another painful round of punches hit your flesh, you swore that you could hear the sounds of someone entering the room before everything went dark.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
When you woke up, you were blinded by the brightness of the room that you were in. After a few moments, the sounds of the machines in the hospital became more apparent. Blinking your eyes, you looked around the room. You nearly burst into flames when you saw your precious child curled up in Casey's lap.
You cleared your throat and spoke quietly, “Sorry about her, she can nap anywhere.”
Casey looked startled and then smiled, “That’s perfectly fine, she didn’t want to leave her mother.”
You gave a small chuckle, “That sounds like my girl. Is she ok? They didn’t do anything, did they?”
Casey shook her head softly, “She’s fine, so is the babysitter. They had them locked in the utility closet upstairs.”
You breathed a sigh of relief, “And David?”
Casey gave you a bigger smile, “Locked up. He won’t be coming out for a long while. Even with all that money.”
You grinned, “Thank goodness, I’m glad I don’t have to look over my shoulder. We need to move forward instead of staying in the past.”
Casey reached over and grabbed your hand. “I think that sounds like a fantastic idea.”
And that’s how Olivia found the two of you when she came to check in on you, holding hands and whispering to each other. As Olivia slowly backed out of the room to avoid being noticed, a smile began to grow on her face. Who knows what will come of that, but Olivia sure wasn’t about to ruin a beautiful moment.

Tumblr media
It’s a simple enough mission; find the Burned One and kill it before any humans see it. The mission is a success and as he’s walking back to the portal, he sees you. He doesn’t mean to get attached. It could never work with you being from Earth and him being from the Otherworld. He tries to forget all about you but it seems like you’ve taken permanent residence in his mind. Every afternoon he sneaks away and uses the portal to travel to Earth and watch you. He’s been watching you for quite some time now making sure you’re safe. In all honesty, he has no intention to introduce himself but that changes on a Thursday when you notice that once again a stranger seems to be watching you. Today you’ve gathered the courage to confront him and threaten to call the police if he doesn’t stop. You have no idea that he will change your entire world and make you question everything you thought you knew.
“Why are you following me?” you ask trying to keep your voice steady. You hide your hands behind your back to prevent the man from noticing them shaking.
“Excuse me?”
“Don’t play dumb. I’ve seen you here every day for the last week. And every time I look over at you, you’re already looking at me. Do I need to call the police?” His face remains neutral but you can tell he’s trying to hold back a laugh. It agitates you that he thinks you won’t report him.
“Do you think this is funny?” Your cheeks are flushed as he stares at you making no attempt to hide it. It’s like he’s staring right into your very being and it makes your skin crawl. You’re looking at him and trying to remember why you’re angry with him but now that you’re close you can’t deny the fact that he’s handsome.
“I’m not following you. I’m just visiting the park. Same as you.” He speaks slowly choosing his words carefully. Every alarm bell goes off in your mind. You’ve seen enough Criminal Minds to know the signs.
“Oh please. You’re always standing in the same place just watching.” He thought he was being careful but you’ve turned out to be more observant than he expected. He doesn’t have an explanation ready, instead he catches himself being baffled by your beauty. He’s always considered humans as weak, people who needed to be protected but with you it’s different. He’s not watching you because he thinks you need protection, he’s watching you because he has no idea how to let you go. There’s just something about the way you laugh, the way you constantly have to tuck strands of hair behind your ear because it won’t stay in place. You’re pure. He doesn’t know how else to explain his attraction to you.
“You’re right. I have been watching you. In all honesty, I’ve been working up the courage to talk to you.”
“You’ve been watching me for a week because you wanted to talk to me?” It sounds ridiculous, but your brain has stopped functioning. For some reason, you feel flattered. You know you should leave, but right now you’re looking at him and it feels like coming home. Like invisible strings connecting the two of you and pulling you closer.
“I don’t have a better answer than yes. I wanted to talk to you.” The logical side of you is screaming to run but the pull is only getting stronger than longer you look into his eyes. After your encounter, he comes back every day just to talk to you. He never pushes for more and you’re too nervous to ask. You share your life story and he shares as much as he can. You instinctually know when to push for more and when he’s shared everything he can. Up until now you’ve never believed in soulmates but he’s making you question that. One day you get the strangest urge to follow him home. He’s been so secretive lately always being vague when speaking about his job or his home. As you think back to how everything started, you reckon it’s only right that you follow him this time. But it turns out he’s a paranoid man who’s always looking over his shoulder making it extremely difficult to stay out of sight. But you manage to follow him all the way to a shed at the outskirts of town.
“Where are you going?” you whisper to yourself edging closer to a window on the side of the shed. You’re just in time to see him exit through a door but he doesn’t come out on the other side of the shed. A closer inspection tells you that there is no door on that side of the shed. You tiptoe inside the shed taking a look around.
“Saul?” you call out and then curse yourself for being stupid. If he found out, you’d been following him, he’d probably call you crazy. You can’t even explain why you feel this need to know where he goes when he’s not with you, but you feel like he’s lying to you about who he really is. With a newfound determination, you walk through the very door you saw Saul disappear through. Suddenly, you’re standing in a forest that you’ve never seen before. Curiosity prevents you from running straight back through that door. Instead you take a few steps forward wondering where the hell you are and that’s when you see it. You have no idea what’s running towards you right now, but you have a feeling it’s not that friendly. It’s your scream that makes Saul aware that you followed him. His heart is in his throat as he runs back towards the shed. His nightmare comes true when he spots the Burned One running straight at you. There’s no time to think as he draws his sword and throws himself at the creature. He buries the sword in the Burned One’s chest and for good measure he draws his knife from his belt and stabs it in the head with that as well.
“Y/N. What the hell are you doing here?” He’s upset and with good reason. You could’ve got yourself killed. He’s about to yell some more when he notices the tears streaming down your cheeks.
“What was that?” you hiccup trying to control your breathing but the truth is you’re panicking. What the hell just happened?
“I can explain everything, but right now I need you to come with me.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you until you explain what just happened!” You take a step back when he tries to reach for you and the hurt is evident in his eyes. You need to know what just happened. You have to find a way to make it make sense in your head. Saul just killed someone.
“Please just come with me. I promise I’ll explain everything, but it’s not safe out here.” Once again he tries to reach for you and this time you let him.
“Are there more?” His face is stern as he nods confirming your worst fears. You’re trying to stay calm but right now you wish you’d never followed him.
“Fine.” He drags you with him keeping a steady pace and never letting go of your hand. You have no idea how long you’ve been walking but you reach the edge of the forest where you discover a huge mansion of sorts. Saul calms down once you set foot on the grass field.
“We’re safe here,” he says but his eyes keep darting to the forest checking to make sure no one followed you here.
“Tell me the truth,” you say letting go of his hand at last. You’ve regained a little of your bearing and now you’re ready to for him to explain everything to you. And he does. He tells you about the school Alfea, his position as head of the army, fairies and specialist, the realms and how your Earth is under their protection. Halfway through you sit down because your legs start shaking. This is too much knowledge for one human being.
“You don’t have to remember this. There are ways for you to forget about all of this. You can forget about me.”
“No!” You don’t even have time to think it through before you blurt it out. Even with all of this circling around in your mind, you know that you don’t want to forget about him. There’s something so fundamentally wrong with the thought of not knowing him. Your outburst earns you the smallest of smiles from him.
“I know it seems scary, but I promise I’ll protect you. They won’t be able to touch you as long as I’m around.” He cups your cheeks and the intensity in his voice makes you dizzy.
“You won’t always be there though. Apparently, we truly are worlds apart.” Tears threaten to spill again but you’re trying to keep your composure in front of Saul.
“Move here.” Two words but there’s so much more behind them. You feel crazy for even considering it.
“You could still visit your world, but I’d be able to protect you.”
“Is that the only reason you want me here?” It’s the wrong thing to focus on after everything he’s just told you but the question keeps popping up in your mind.
“I want to keep you safe. I can’t explain it, but I just know when I heard you screaming, I thought my heart might beat out of my chest. You make me want more in life than just being a soldier.” He’s standing close enough for you to feel his breath on your skin and it calms you down. It’s like you’re standing in the middle of a hurricane.
“I need something better than that,” you whisper feeling the tension between the two of you reach its peak. He leans forward and kisses you. It’s gentle at first, but you’ve wanted to do this since you first spoke so gentle won’t cut it. You run your fingers through his hair and pull making him groan out in pleasure. He lifts you up and presses your back against a tree. It’s like he can’t get close enough.
“I’ll move here. Wherever you are,” you whisper in his ear and place a kiss on his neck. He’s kissing you again this time more roughly. It takes everything in you to push him away.
“Not here, not like this.” You want to - more than anything right now - but you know tomorrow you’ll wish you’d waited. He nods taking several steps back.
“I can have a room set up for you and then tomorrow we’ll go back for your things.” He turns his back to you taking deep breaths. You place a hand on his shoulder to turn him around.
“Can’t I stay with you?” His eyes soften but there’s still the tension between the two of you.
“Do you think that’s a good idea?” he smirks making you laugh. You’ve never seen this carefree side to you him before but you love it.
“Let’s get some sleep.”

Wednesdays
Summary: Wednesdays are Janus Picani's busiest day. Between meetings, snack day, soccer practice, and art club, he's running around like a chicken with his head cut off. This Wednesday, however, is sure to change the lives of the Picani family forever. Jan's sure they can handle it though.
Ships: Platonic Moceit, thvi
A/N: I've been rewatching the old Reba sitcom from the 2000s and I'd forgotten just how good it was. Good enough that I wanted to write an au for it. Thank you so much to @amazon-me-bitches and my lovely qpp @forever-forgotten-angel for beta reading this and helping me to work out the kinks with the plot. As always, leave a comment if you like this. Enjoy!
For most people, Mondays were their busiest day. It made sense; returning to the workweek, school, etc. For Janus Picani, however, the title of busiest day went to Wednesday. His firm always had partner meetings, they were Emile’s day to bring class snacks, Remy had soccer, and Virgil had art club. On top of that, Jan’s therapy sessions were Wednesdays, which meant he had to make sure all of his work was done 15 minutes early so he could get to his appointment on time. Safe to say, to say Wednesdays weren’t exactly his favorite day.
“Emile! Get down here! You don’t want to be late for school!”, He called upstairs as he finished making breakfast sandwiches. Virgil stood across from him, packing lunches for his brothers.
“He probably can’t find his backpack. He left it down here after he finished his homework.”
Janus sighed, “This wouldn’t be a problem if he just left his backpack down here every night. Remy go get your brother and tell him his backpack is down here.”, the young boy got up, rolling his eyes and Jan had to bite back a sigh. Remy had always been his sassiest child.
“Why can’t Virgil do it?”
Virgil raised an eyebrow at him, “Because I’m making lunch, I can go get him if you want to make your own sandwich ?”, Remys shook his head and ran upstairs, Virgil chuckling at the sight.
Janus finished plating breakfast and turned to thank Virgil, frowning when he saw that Virgil had only made two lunches. He looked pointedly at his son, “You’re not eating?”, he asked.
Virgil shrugged, “I’m gonna get lunch at school today. They’re having burritos.”, Janus nodded. As long as he was eating. Patton came downstairs before he could reply, Remy and Emile in tow.
“I found these two trying to play on the Switch.”, Emile and Remy sat down, guilty little grins on their faces that told Jan that they didn’t regret it, “Good thing I went to check on them.” “Good thing indeed.” He handed Pat a plate, pouting a cup of coffee for his husband? Ex? Janus wasn’t sure what to call the man he’d been married to for 20 years, separated from, hadn’t divorced, and who still lived in the house with. Regardless he poured him a cup of coffee, “Ok so you’re taking Emile and Remy to school and I’ll take Virgil. I’ll pick up Remy and you pick up Emile and-” “-and I’m catching a ride home with Thomas after theater. I’m working on the sets for Little shop today.”, Virgil piped up and Jan had to hold back a grimace at the mention of his boyfriend. He like Thomas, he really did. In terms of high school boyfriends, Thomas had been nothing but a gentleman. But the thought of his son dating still upset Janus deep down; according to his therapist, he was grappling with the thought of his baby growing up.
“Ok.”, he replied, keeping his thoughts to himself. It wouldn’t do any good to speak them when they were his problem to deal with, “I’ll pick up takeout on the way home.”
“Jan? I was wondering if you’d want to come to the restaurant today for lunch?”, He turned to look at Patton. Based on the tone in his voice Janus knew that this wasn’t just a friendly invitation to taste a new menu item. He sighed: he’d been planning to work through his lunch today so he could get out on time.
Regardless, this seemed serious, “Ok. I’ll be there at noon.”, he promised. He quickly finished his breakfast and looked over to Virgil, “Ready to go?”, he asked. He nodded and finished pouring his iced coffee and they were off.
The ride to Virgil’s school was as quick as always. Music played lowly on the radio, lowly on the radio and Janus hummed along. It would be peaceful if not for the fact that Virgil kept fidgeting and staring out the window. Something was up, “Ok. Something’s wrong. Spill.” Virgil turned to look at him, “What? Nothing’s wrong.”, He straightened his face, trying to appear calm. Janus didn’t buy it for a second, “I’m fine.” “Virgil James Picani. I have known you since you were born. I have held you for night after night. I know you inside out. And I know when you’re lying to me. What’s wrong? Is someone bothering you?” Virgil shook his head. “No. It’s just that Mr.Prince, the drama teacher, wants me to be Seymore’s understudy. And I know the chances of me going on stage are rare but I don’t want to take that chance. And I don’t know how to tell him without letting him down.” “Baby bat, just tell him the truth. I’m sure he’ll understand.”, Virgil nodded. The issue seemed to be solved, yet Janus had a feeling that there was something else wrong. But before he could ask any more, they’d arrived and Virgil was getting out. “Love you, Dad! I’ll see you after school!”, Janus shook his head, trying to keep his concerns down. He’d ask Virgil after school. It was fine.
Being a lawyer certainly had its perks; financial security being a prime example. Meetings running long weren’t that though. Janus sighed as he rushed into Pat’s. The warm lighting and delicious smells greeting him. Even if he’d preferred to work through his lunch, Janus couldn’t deny that the thought of Patton’s cooking made his mouth water. There was a reason people came from near and far to this place.
Speaking of Patton, Janus spotted the bespectacled man sitting in their usual booth, a bottle of wine waiting there. He smiled at the thought and sat down, “I thought you weren’t a fan of day drinking?”, he quipped. Pat rarely drank at all, but especially not during the day. “I’m not but I know you don’t mind a glass of wine at lunch.”, Pat poured him a glass, “Salmon or duck?” “Salmon.”, Janus answered. Patton made a delicious pan-seared salmon with risotto and kale salad. It was delicious and sounded lovely right now. Patton nodded and ordered that for him and glazed crispy duck for himself. “So.”, he began as he buttered a roll, “What did you want to discuss?” “Who says I have something to discuss? Maybe I just wanted to have lunch with you?”, He was stalling obviously. Trying to get time to steel his nerves.
Janus raised an eyebrow at him, “You and I know very well that Wednesday is our busy day. If you wanted to just have lunch you would have asked on another day. Therefore this is something important that you don’t want to talk about in front of the kids. So what do you want to discuss?” Patton sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. Whatever he wanted to talk about was weighing heavily on his mind. After some time he finally spoke, “I want to finalize our divorce.”, he spoke quickly, like he wanted to get the words out of his mouth as fast as he could.
Janus nodded; he supposed it made sense. They had been separated for over a year now, they slept in separate bedrooms, and they hadn’t had sex since long before they separated. While they still cared for each other, the love they once shared was long gone. The only reason they were still married was the cost of getting a divorce. Considering they’d spent 20 dollars on a courthouse wedding neither had been too happy to shill out thousands of dollars to end their marriage.
The question was why now, and why couldn’t he say it in front of the kids. They’d sat them down months ago and explained that while they loved each other and would always be a family, they weren’t in love anymore. Virgil had taken in the best; being the oldest, he’d seen the signs for a while now. He’d taken it upon himself to comfort his younger brothers. Remy tried to pretend that he was fine, but both Janus and Patton knew better. He’d taken the thought of his family splitting up harder than he was showing. They’d both spoken to him about it, reassuring him that they’d always be a family. And they’d started having family activities every Saturday. Emile had taken it the hardest. The six-year-old didn’t truly understand what was going on. They were still having conversations explaining what it meant. Janus had even begun researching child psychologists at the recommendation of his therapist.
“Ok.”, He spoke, “Why now though? I thought we’d agreed that divorces are too expensive…. You met someone.”, the realization hit Janus like a ton of bricks. Everything made sense. Pat would feel guilty about pursuing someone else while married, even if they were separated. And he wouldn’t want to talk about this in front of the kids until he knew for sure that it was serious.
Patton nodded, “I did.”
“Well, tell me about him. I care about you regardless of our marital status. And I want to know about the person you’ll be bringing around our kids.”
“Ok. His name is Logan and I met him a few weeks ago. He came in here for dinner and he’s just the cutest. He got so excited when he found out we use crofters in our thumbprint cookies and our victoria sponge.” Patton smiled fondly at the thought, “We’ve been on a few dates and… It’s not just a fling. I can see a future with him, Jan.”
Jan took a sip of wine, “Ok. I’ll ask around for good lawyers when I get back.”,
Patton squealed and hugged him, “Thank you so much Jan. Maybe I could invite him over for dinner sometime. That way you could meet him and I could introduce him to the kids.”, Their food came at that moment, which meant Patton had to stop hugging him. Janus was thankful; he’d never been the type for hugging. Except with his kids.
“Ok. But you have to tell them about the divorce first. Deal?” “Deal.”
Virgil was generally considered a good kid by his peers and teachers. Quiet perhaps, but overall a good kid. He didn’t break rules, got good grades, and overall kept to himself. The one anomaly about him was that he was dating Thomas sanders, or rather that Thomas Sanders was dating him. Thomas was a bright and outgoing person; if this was a 2000s sitcom, he might have been considered popular. Not only that, but he had a fairly popular youtube channel where he did skits, challenges, and more. Virgil barely even had social media. They were a couple regardless, and Virgil was known as a good kid.
He didn’t feel like a good kid as he watched the Chipotle employee make his bowl. He’d signed himself out of school early along with Thomas, and now they were getting lunch. The thought of skipping school kept buzzing around his head, even though he’d gotten all of his assignments from the classes he’d be missing. Besides he had bigger problems to worry about.
He sat down beside his boyfriend and took a bite of his food, “What am I going to do?” He asked in a small voice, fear lacing his tone. Thomas reached across the booth and squeezed his hand.
Hey,”, Thomas whispered, his voice soft and reassuring, “It’ll be ok. I’ll be right here no matter what.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”, Thomas squeezed his hand, “Now really eat, you skipped lunch yesterday.”, Virgil nodded and the rest of lunch passed silence. The pair simply enjoying their food together. Virgil grinned and poured queso onto his bowl and smiled at his boyfriend.
“You’re so cute.”, he whispered. Thomas blushed at the compliment and Virgil considered it a win. Sooner enough they were done with their meal. Virgil stood up and gathered their trash, “I’m gonna go the bathroom.” “Ok”, Thomas nodded, “I love you no matter what.”. Virgil smiled and went to the bathroom, anxiety twisting his stomach in knots.
Janus sighed as he drove home. Patton had messaged him earlier that he was making dinner and Jan didn’t have to pick up any takeout. Of course, that made Jan’s life easier, but it also meant that they were going to talk over the divorce with the kids. Great. He peered at Remy in the backseat, sipping his chocolate milk without a care in the world. God sometimes Jan wished he were a child still. Childhood was so much easier, “I think your Dad is making dinner tonight.” Remy looked at him, “I thought we were going to pick up takeout?” “He messaged me saying that I don’t need to pick up any food.”, Remy nodded and smiled before looking back out the window. Janus understood: Patton was an amazing cook. Hopefully, they’d all be able to eat after this. God, how would Remy react? He’d already taken the separation hard. And Emile, he barely understood what divorce was. And Virgil, the oldest, the one who buried his feelings the most. He probably wouldn’t want to talk about it and would bury his feelings to help his brothers.
They pulled into the garage, Remy grabbing his stuff and running inside, “Take off your shoes and change before you get mud all over the house.’, he called after him. Janus took his time collecting his things. ‘Just go in. Better to get it over with.’, his thoughts raced around his head like an angry swarm of bees. He took a deep breath and walked inside.
The smell of garlic and tomatoes washed over his sense, Patton was making Italian food. He took a deep breath, enjoying the smells. Patton stood next to the counter, buttering a long baguette for garlic bread. He looked up and gave a reassuring smile, but Janus could see the nervousness in his eye, at least he wasn’t alone in the feeling, “Hey.” He greeted, “The lasagna is almost done and I’m making garlic bread right now. There’s stuff for caesar salad in the fridge if you want to help out.”
Janus nodded and took off his jacket before washing his hands and making said salad, “Where’s Emile and Virgil?”, he asked, praying that he sounded casual. The salad offered a great distraction from his thoughts, greeting parmesan meant he didn’t have to focus on this upcoming family discussion.
“Virgil is helping Emile with his homework. He’s learning addition.”, Patton supplied as he put the bread on a tray, placing it in the oven. “There are brownies in the fridge. I figured we could make sundaes. Hopefully, it’ll make the conversation easier.”, Janus nodded. Remy and Emile might not realize it but Virgil would know something was up. Pat rarely made dessert on weekdays.
Soon enough dinner was done and all five of them were sitting around the table. Virgil still looked anxious and Janus wanted to bang his head off the table. There was no way he’d be able to ask what was wrong after this conversation. Why did this have to happen tonight?
Patton smiled, “So how was school guys?”, ‘Subtle Pat, subtle. Why don’t you just hang a banner above our heads that says We’re getting divorced’. Janus took a large sip of wine so his thoughts would stay in his head.
“Ok,” Remy spoke up. “But I keep getting headaches during the day. The lights in the class are too bright.”, This had been going on for a while now. The fluorescent lighting of the classroom seemed to give Remy migraines, and his teacher wasn’t budging on letting him wear sunglasses to prevent it.
“I’ll talk to your teacher in the morning.”
“My day was good Daddy.”, Emile grinned, “We learned about ecosystems.”, Janus smiled. Emile was so young and innocent.
“Virgil?”, The teenager in question looked up from where he’d been staring off into space. He took a quick bit of lasagna before speaking.
“It was fine.”
He was lying. Something was wrong and Virgil was trying to act like he was ok. Janus wanted to ask more questions, to figure out what was bothering his son. It wouldn’t work though. Virgil guarded his privacy with his life. Prying would only make him more tight-lipped. Janus just had to wait for Virgil to come to him with what was wrong, and in the meantime, hope that it wasn’t serious.
Besides, even if Janus thought it was a good idea to ask, there were other things at hand. Patton nodded to him and he knew it was time. “Your father and I have some news.”. Patton began. Janus held back a groan.
“Are we going to Disney World?”, Emile was practically bouncing in his seat at the thought of such a trip.
“No.”, Janus made a mental note to talk to Patton about a family vacation. Maybe it would help reassure Remy and Emile that they were all still a family. “It’s not that. You all know that we’re always going to be a family right? No matter what happens we’ll always be together.”, Virgil was ghostly pale and Remy had his fists clenched. He didn’t even have to say it. They knew.
His middle son jumped up, “No.” He was tearing up, “You promised.”
“Remy..”
“No! You said we’d always be together.”, Tears began running down his face. A knot formed in Janus’ throat. Why did they have to do this?
“And we will. No matter what.”, Patton tried to soothe. It was met on deaf ears.
“No, we won’t! That’s what they all say! They say nothing will change but it does. Next thing you know, you’re in different houses and splitting custody and no one will want me. And then I’ll be back in foster care.”
“Remy that won’t happen. We love you.”, Janus wanted to take his son in his arms. Wanted to hold all of his children and promise them that they still loved them all, and the divorce wouldn’t change that. But Remy ran upstairs, the sound of his bedroom door slamming shut echoing through the house.
“What’s going on?”, Emile’s face was contorted, confusion visible. Of course, he wouldn’t fully understand what was going on. The six-year-old had barely understood the separation.
Patton sighed and knelt down next to him, “Your father and I are finalizing our divorce. We won’t be married anymore.” Emile blinked.
“Why? I thought you weren’t getting one?” Patton sighed, “Things have changed.”, Emile blinked at him. This was going wrong. It was too soon. They should have eased them into this idea. Shouldn’t have sprung it on them like this.
Understanding bloomed in Emile’s face. His next words were a whisper, so quiet that Janus almost didn’t hear them. But he did, and it felt like getting hit by a truck. “Are you divorcing cause Virgil’s pregnant?” “EMILE!”, Virgil shrieked. Janus felt like he was watching this from above like it was a tv show playing out in front of him, and not his life. He looked next to him. Patton appeared to be in a similar situation.
“It’s the truth.”
Finally, Janus found himself able to speak. There were a million questions inside of him longing to get out, but all he could say was, “What?”
Luckily Patton was able to voice one of his questions, “Virgil, is this true?”. Virgil refused to make eye contact with either of them and Janus knew it was. His eldest child looked almost ashamed, shoulders tense and body hunched over.
“Virgil…”, He started, but he was upstairs before Janus could continue. Janus shut his eyes. Amazing. One of his kids was pregnant at 17 and another thought he was going to be sent back to foster care. His head met the table with a groan. Patton rubbed his shoulder.
Emile still stood in front of them, “Am I in trouble?”, he asked, voice shaking. Janus leaned forward and picked him up. He bounced Emile on his hip, stroking his back.
“No baby.”, He ruffled his hair and booped his nose. “You aren’t in trouble ok. Everything is just kinda stressful right now. But none of that is your fault, ok?” Emile nodded and buried his face into Jan’s chest. Patton joined the hug, stroking Emile’s back and humming softly. They sat there in this position for about 10 minutes before Janus pulled away, gave Emile a kiss on the forehead, “We love all of you so much and the divorce won’t change that ok?”
He nodded and Janus stood up, “I’m going to go talk to Remy, he might be easier to get to open up than Virgil right now.”, He handed Emile to Pat, who bounced him on his hip.
“Ok. I’ll make a pot of hot cocoa to take up. Hopefully, it’ll get him to open up.”, Janus nodded in thanks and made his way upstairs.
Remy’s room was as dark as ever, the twelve-year-old liked to leave the lights in his room dimmed. Janus peaked his head in, seeing him laying on his bed, face buried into his pillows. “Remy?”, He called out. The child in question didn’t respond but Janus knew he was awake, “Can I come in?”
There was silence for a moment and Janus thought about what he would do if Remy said no. He wanted to respect his privacy, but at the time this was a conversation that needed to happen. Remy thought he was going to be sent back to foster care and Janus couldn’t let him just think that. Luckily Remy soon answered, “Yes…”
He walked in slowly, eyes trained on his son. His son who was terrified that he was going to be sent away. He swallowed, “Remy you aren’t going to be sent back to foster care. I promise that.”
Remy sniffled and his heart broke for his middle child, “That’s what they said last time. They said they loved me and I’d never be sent away again. And then they said they were getting a divorce and it wasn’t a good time for them to adopt a kid.”
Janus sighed and began stroking his hair, “And I’m promising that no matter what we’re not sending you back there. We love you. You’re our son, our wonderful son who we love so much. The divorce is between your father and me. And I won’t lie and say that it won’t affect you or that nothing will change, because things will change. A lot of things will change. But the love that your father and I have for the three of you? That will never change. It’ll never fade or go away. And we’re never sending you back.” He smiled slightly and joked, “Besides we threw away the receipt. No returns.”
Remy giggled and Janus knew he’d been successful in cheering him up. Remy sat up and hugged him tightly, tears still flowing freely, “I love you both. This is my home, my family. I don’t want to lose you.” “I know baby, I know. What does Stitch say?”, He hoped that a reference to Remy’s favorite movie would lighten the mood even more.
Remy sighed, “Ohana means family.” “And?”
“Family is never left behind or forgotten.”
Janus nodded and kissed his head, “And you’re our ohana. And we hope to yours. We’re here for as long as you want us.”, Remy smiled and Janus knew that even if it took some time, everything would be ok with him. He sat up. “Patton should be up here in a few minutes with cocoa and I’m sure he’ll want to talk to you. So I’ll sit here with you until he gets up here and then I’ll give you your privacy. Ok? Besides I need to talk to your older brother.”
Remy nodded, “Is Virgil ok?”
Janus sighed, “I don’t know. But I intend to find out.”. As if on cue, there was a knock on the door and Patton peaked his head in. He held a tray with four mugs of cocoa topped with whipped cream. Next to them sat a plate with brownies.
“Can I come in? I brought cocoa.” He smiled encouragingly. Remy nodded and sat up off of Janus’s chest. Patton came in, taking two of the mugs and some of the brownies. “The rest are for you and Virgil.”
“Where’s Emile?”
“In his room with a covered mug and a brownie watching Aladdin. He’ll be ok.”, Janus nodded and took the tray before leaving.
Janus stood outside of Virgil’s room, trying to figure out what to say. What did you say when your teenage son was pregnant? Most parents were worried about their sons getting someone pregnant, not their sons being pregnant. Then again, not everyone had a trans son. He sighed and knocked, “Virgil? Can I come in?”
Unlike Remy, who took his time answering, Virgil’s reply was almost immediate, “I don’t want to talk, Dad.”, Janus sighed. Goddammit. This is exactly what he was fearing. He couldn’t just leave his son alone right now. His pregnant son at that. Virgil was pregnant. He groaned.
“Baby bat, please. We need to talk about this.”
“I don’t want to talk.” “I have Pat’s hot chocolate and brownies.”
There was a pause. Then he spoke, “The door’s open.”, Janus opened the door slowly. Virgil sat in the middle of the bed, knees tucked against his chest. Tears ran down his face in inky black trails. Janus’ heart ached for him. He looked at Janus and sniffled, “Go on. Yell at me about what a horrible mistake I made.” His heart lept into his throat. Janus remembered having a similar conversation with his sister 18 years ago. How she was pregnant and her boyfriend ran off on her. Janus hadn’t known then how his life was going to change forever. And now his son was pregnant.
“I’m not here to yell at you V.”, He sat next to him, handing Virgil the mug of cocoa. He took a sip of his own, “How long have you known?” Virgil shrugged, “I only found out today. But I suspected it when Dad mentioned that one of the waitresses at the restaurant was pregnant. I’m about a month along.” Janus nodded, “Does Thomas know?”, he was met with a nod. “And what does he think?”, more memories of his sister rushed to the surface. His sister saying that her boyfriend had ran out of town when she found out that was pregnant. That he took the rent money and she’d been evicted. He was brought out of his memories by Virgil’s next words.
“He says he loves me still. And he supports me no matter what I choose.”, Well that was good. Janus didn’t know what he would have done if Thomas had abandoned Virgil. It would have been unpleasant that’s for sure. Now for the hardest question.
“You have options; you don’t have to keep the baby if you don’t want to. Do you have an idea of what you want to do?”, Virgil looked up at him and Janus once again was overcome with memories of his sister. Adelaide saying that she didn’t know what she was going to do but she was keeping her baby. He and Pat letting her move in. Recording home movies for the baby. Rushing her to the hospital while she screamed in pain in his backseat. The doctor saying that she lost too much blood. Holding Virgil in his arms.
“I want to keep the baby.”, there it was. The thing that Janus had known deep down that Virgil would say from the moment he found out about the pregnancy, “I know I have options and I know I’m young and this probably seems stupid but I want this baby. I just... You took a chance on me when mom died. You and Dad weren’t looking for a kid when I was born but you took me in anyway. You took a chance on me. And I’m taking a chance on this baby.”
Janus sighed, “You’re just like your mother you know that. Just as stubborn and just as loving. And you know what? She was just as determined to have you, even if it wasn’t the best time. And I’m going to tell you the same thing I told her.”, He hugged Virgil close, “I love you so much. And if you want this baby then your dad and I will support you no matter what ok? We’ll help you out. I promise.”
Virgil smiled at him, “Really?”
Janus nodded, “Really really. Now I think you should invite Thomas over tomorrow. I want to talk to him.”. Seeing the look on Virgil’s face he added, “I’ll go easy on him. I just want to know he’ll be a good dad for my grandchild. And you two need to tell his parents.”
Virgil nodded and there was a knock at the door, “Come in.”
It was Patton, “Hey. Emile and Remy are both asleep. How is everything?”
“Well Pat, we’re going to be grandfathers.”
Patton smiled and sat down next to them both, “I see. And everything is ok?” Virgil nodded, “Yeah. Everything will work itself out.”, And at that moment Janus knew it to be true.
A/N: Unlike some of my other works, this one is going to be a series of one-shots. I think I'll be able to handle that better than chapter fic. It'll also feel more like episodes of a sitcom. I really like the feel to this and I'm open to prompts.
