Artist Research - Olga Ziemska
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Olga Ziemska is a Polish-American sculptor who works with natural materials and blends nature with humanity. An extract from her artist statement goes as follows: "Returning meaning back to nature. Making the human body a part of the whole, not the whole part.  Blending the body in. Showing how easily it can mesh, morph and disappear.  The body is nothing without that which surrounds it."
I decided to focus on Stillness In Motion, one of Ziemska’s most impressive sculptures, Ziemska uses only cut willow branches and wire to depict the silhouette of a woman, with flowing branches extending behind her. This piece piqued my interest due to the materials used and the scale of the sculpture (both factors I learned to look out for by watching the sculpture seminar last semester).
Olga's work and her connection between nature and humans is of great interest as well as concerning my project idea. Connecting nature with people and possibly looking at how nature can take over the human form over time is something I may choose to explore in my upcoming electives.

Hello! If this is a poetry exchange, can we write poetry for it too? Only that, shorter than 1000 words?
If one of the songs or poems you receive as a prompt inspires you to write a poem of your own, by all means!
While your poem does not need to be 1000 words long, we do ask that you put a similar amount of time and effort into it as it would take to write about 1000 words of fic-- after all, no one wants to receive a single 10-word haiku as their finished gift!
Try to aim for at least 200-300 cumulative words, though this total is somewhat flexible, since writing poetry can be harder to quantify than normal fic. If you prefer working with shorter poetry formats, consider writing a series of connected poems! Or, if you're feeling generous, one poem for each of your giftee's prompts (should they submit more than one!)

Teh, Hte, Eth
I finally got the printer to work and printed out my table of poems; I am now transcribing them one by one – by hand – into a lovely book Daniel bought me for Christmas using a fountain pen which he also bought me. Writing with a fountain pen means that I’m having to slow right down, which is a good practice; I normally write much too fast so that my handwriting is illegible and OH is always…

The Last Stand Exam
This file documents the questions administered to the adventuring party known as the Bad Kids during their Last Standard Exam, in their junior year at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy. This assessment was produced from a variety of class materials relevant to the curriculum of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, as submitted to the principal Arthur Aguefort prior to the start of the school year. This list is accompanied by documentation of the creatures the party known as the Bad Kids was required to face as part of the exam.
The exam is graded out of 100 points; the scoring involves the students correctly answering the questions in the appropriate time interval as well as their heroic last stands. The students are expected to simultaneously fight off a horde of creatures and participate in the examination equally; each student in this party must answer two of the twelve questions.
Neither exam aids, nor outside interference are permitted during the examination period--this excludes clerical divine intervention, as appropriately performed by a member of the party in question. By standard, the proctor must be protected--death of the proctor results in a 30 point score reduction regardless of circumstance.
By Solisian School District Standards, this party reports excellent grades and a high level of competency with regard to independent adventuring.* They were allotted a grace period prior to exam initiation for preparatory spellcasting and review of the exam parameters. Based on prior academic achievement**, the students were allowed two chances to defer a question or utilize previous materials in their response. Questions where these materials were used will be marked with a **.
Exam Proctor: Gavin Pundle
Assisting Cleric: Buddy Dawn
Party Members:
Adaine Abernant | Wizard
Kristen Applebees | Cleric
Figueroth Faeth | Bard / Paladin / Warlock / "Barbarian"

Given the number of times our adventuring party have been put in a situation where the actual fate of our very existence has hung in the balance, it seems only fitting that the result of our efforts impact our academic study. Considering the ultimate goal is to become adventurers, it makes the most sense that actual application of our skills would be most important. If actual adventuring doesn't show our skills, what will? No matter how many class I take, it won't make me a better bard or fighter. A comprehensive list of all the things Philomena Cunk’s Mate Paul has done
Write a story about a man who got a new potato stuck up himself following an ill-advised sex game. And he wrote that in the form of a limerick. No one died but it sounded horrendous.
Was driving to Winchester when a lorrie jack-knifed in front of him and he was hurtling towards it and everything went slo-mo and Paul, who’s never been religious, spoke to Jesus and said “I promise if I survive this, I’ll believe in you.” And he did survive but he fractured his skull and broke both his legs. Paul never forgave him and he says “if I see Christ again, he’s a dead man”
Got terrible diarrhea while he was doing a 30-mile sponsored walk to Harrogate dressed as Spider-Man for Help for Heroes. “One of the most noble and disgusting things I’ve ever seen.” Before the organizers intervened he raised 368 pounds
Are five ketamine brownies and thought that he could communicate telepathically with any animal he saw on television. He ended up being sectioned for his own safety.
Invented a treadmill for his fiancés pet snake, and the sketches for that were much more convincing than Leonardo da Vinci’s flying machine. And he was on mushrooms. Mind you, the prototype did pull the snakes head off. That was the worst ending to a birthday party Philomena had ever been to.
Punched a waiter in a TGI Fridays for dropping his banoffee pie
Sent Philomena a video that exposes that neither the moon nor nighttime is real

What's a limerick?
Well, first let me structure portray -  Five lines in a strict rhyme scheme stay The first two and last With third-fourth do contrast  This rhyme scheme’s AABBA!
So each line should always have three Of it’s syllables stressed, let’s agree. It’s trimeter form And quite a strict norm For the first two and last line you see.
The couplet meanwhile has two Of it’s syllables stressed, as you knew. But harder is matching  And moving and patching  The number of unstressed parts too.
When you write a good lim’rick, it’s best To have syllable “feet” not be messed, But have unstressed parts match Like in this one you’ll catch  I have two quiet ‘fore the ones stressed.
While two unstressed each time Is common, I will chime Just one works too The goal’s that you Can match within each rhyme.
I hope I answered your question! I’ve got to admit, in confession, I clearly don’t always Do all that in all these, But I hope it’s a helpful suggestion! :)

sorry not sorry but unfollow me right now if you think bards belong in the royal court. i do not give a single fuck if their shitty drinking songs are catchy. either make a pun, do a flip, or get the fuck out.
edit: turning off asks and submissions because some of you pro-barders apparently can't stop yourselves from sending death threats in the form of limericks to people who disagree with you. thanks for proving my point
