what kinds of dolls did you like when you were growing up?

Lady dolls, much like today! I loved playing with my many big-eyed late 90s/very early 00s Barbies in their sparkly dresses. Until the sleeker, more Modern look came in, and I privately thought of them as Evil Stepmother Barbies.

This shit. Barbie married Daddy, and she's shipping you off to boarding school on her way to get lip fillers. Nowadays I would also say she sells LipSense or something. As you can probably imagine, Bratz cut no ice with me at all.

I had some American Girl Dolls, too- thankfully my parents were able to save money by letting me play with my sister's rich-grandparents-supplied hoard of AG dolls and accessories, though I had a couple of my own. The upshot of that being, I got to play with the OG AG, so to speak. Back before the product quality fell off a cliff. Definitely spoiled me for doll clothes thereafter, I can tell you that much.

My favorite dolls, in terms of appearance, were my Princess of Ireland Barbie:

I used to pretend that she was made of ivory and her eyes were made of emeralds. She's still on display at my parents' house, believe it or not.

and my Geppeddo Rapunzel porcelain doll:

Also not my specific doll. Hard to find good photos of this one- the company did a cheaper Rapunzel later, as they were circling the drain. But this one had the softest, sweetest face and I adored her. Mine is named Ruby, also still at the Ancestral Marzi Home.

I loved porcelain dolls, but wished they had movable arms and legs like my Barbies. Little did I know that I needed to look back in time for that.

last night i got to check off a bucket list dream; i saw the cure live thanks to my husband's bday gift to me, back in march for my 45th.

14 year old me was dying, crying... they played BURN. they played CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES (o, but i was rocking & crying & smiling; how strange that song broke my heart back then & i didn't know why... & then i was dx'd autistic 3 years ago & NOW i know why), & they played A FOREST & LULLABY!

also, the twilight sad, who opened, is 584% worth checking out. if NIN & placebo had an angsty child, it would be TTS.

my only regret is not buying some plum or deep berry lippie. this was the first i Wore Makeup in 4 years; my black eyeliner was all but dried out, & all i had for lips was like... my everyday lipsense normal berry.

so, so many elder goths & bb goths... my god it was everything.

also appropriate: it was raining. we were outdoors lol. if it was warmer i'd have 826% danced & danced in it; it was not warm, so K & i were huddled under 2 umbrellas... & then it downpoured for the first 3 cure songs, so he dropped $10 on shitty-ass ponchos.

i still wouldn't change a thing. 🖤
