Genshin Sagau (?) Isekai Brainrot - Language

I've seen like ONE small kinda related Genshin Sagau/isekai idea for this but I wanted more of it so BAD

It’s not the most interesting thing in the world, it’s about our modern vernacular vs. Teyvat's flowery speech

Pls feel free to expand on or add to this pLEASE TAG ME IF U DO IM STARVING OUT HERE :)))

So I saw someone write like one sentence abt this (can’t remember who :( sorry I’ll update if I find them ) or like a brutally honest version??

But I also took inspo from how fucking wordy and long conversations that are in Genshin, even with ppl like Xiao (the rude boy that he is) or even Tighnari who gets to the point pretty quickly

It goes smth like:

So, all of Teyvet, (esp ppl like Zhongli 💀 u know the ones) talk,, flowery.

Like, the whole Pride and Prejudice style speaking, euphemisms, metaphors, for some characters (or Npcs) its full on POETRY.

Lookin’ at you Kazuha.

And going off of any variation of you being the Creator, (or otherwise an older mythical being?), they could have this thing where the older a deity/mythical thingy is, the simpler the speech.

Kinda makes sense to them y’know? The older beings are serious, commanding, intimidating

And nothing says "I'm ancient as fuck and powerful as fuck" like simple blunt speech.

And being closer to the literal creation of the world, language would understandably be less complex (I’m assuming it’s the same as in human cultures in our world's history)

Like literally look at our fantasy typical stories, plenty of them have a dragon or ancient god that speaks in extremes, like so flowery its a metaphor, or so bluntly its startling (ie, "Be not afraid." "I am all powerful." etc etc)

And so, ancient powerful being = direct/blunt speech

…

...Y'know,, almost like our modern vernacular.

Like, part of some of our modern day comedy is purely based on a sentence being delivered bluntly for impact

Hell our ads and videos and content in general we always want to get to the point, to say things simply

So with this in mind, even if you try to deny being the Creator, they might still think you are, or at least a more minor ancient deity/creature

(like the Seven Sovereigns/Phanes/Shades/etc. for example would sound eerily modern or at least easy for you to understand bc of this trait lol)

(Also I'm just assuming u know Genshin lore enough to know what I meant by that ^)

So, I love the AU where you just,, hitch a ride with the traveler like Paimon bc u start at the "beginning of the game",

And with every person you meet, you're like, "Ok, no, I promise this is just how my country/world speaks, it's not like that, I'm not some ancient deity…"

And They're all like 🤨🤨🤨 "Well, fine traveler and companions, why does your speech sound so simplistic and sharp? Surely, you do not expect me to truly believe you.."

You: "Please I just talk like this, I'm a regular human."

Them: "Alright, if it is as you say,, you wish to not experience being "known" yes? Fear not, I will keep your secrets close to my chest."

You: "No, for the last time, that's not-"

And it just keeps happening, lol

(srry I tried my best at emulate Genshin language + flowery speech idk how to do it)

Like maybe you would just sound weird or like a foreigner speaking y’know in simpler sentences bc they don't know the language as well as native speakers, at least that could be how you sound to NPCs and ppl who don’t know abt simpler speech meaning

...But the Adepti? Zhongli?? Barbatos maybe??? Even the Aranara??? Those who are old enough to maybe have heard how older beings speak or at least have knowledge of how they should speak/sound??

You couldn’t have predicted how shocked their faces were the second you opened you’re mouth…

Sumeru scholars would freak tf out i stg, as soon as you meet Haypasia, she's already losing it, first the Irminsul progress, now this ancient being/Creator?? Girlie thinks its a sign lmao

(I’m an Aether lover, and also bc I think Lumine looks badass as Abyss ruler, so I’m gonna go with Aether for traveler sorry Lumine mains love yall T-T)

You, and Aether being equally confused at first pLEASE 😭

lets say he speaks a little more fluffy than you at least, after all I’m assuming bc of the outfit that he’s from a fantasy-like place, and his replies can be a little fluffy like Teyvat’s residents, so he kinda fits in, kinda like everybody assumes he's just from another country when he gets to a new nation (at least that’s what I think happens??)

Like after (maybe Diluc?) Lisa, Kaeya, Venti, and Jean (who I think would all be knowledgeable, thru diff means, about this enough to maybe recognize the simpler speech = ancient god thing)

ALL reacted shocked as hell at hearing you talk, and would probably explain (or Paimon before then?) in that infuriatingly roundabout way, that you would usually skip a couple dialogue boxes just to avoid bc yOU ALREADY GOT THE POINT or alternatively WHATS THE POINT HERE?? JUST SAY IT, WHATS THE COMMISSION/QUEST FOR/WHAT DO I DO??

(Those blue highlights be savin my impatient life, and i actually like lore stuff 💀)

Oh that’s also another frustration. For you.

It would drive me crazy if I had to wait like,, 2-3 minutes for ppl to explain what they ate for dinner or sm shit

Like, now imagine that’s everyone, about everything.

You don’t know how anything gets done in battles or wars, like you need faster communication for that right??💀

Anyway, you, Aether and Paimon decide you just gotta not talk when you first meet people or like,, make sure you're gonna be around that person for a while so you don’t have to possibly get someone over the shock of your speech every time you guys talk to people 😭 that'd be so miserable I can already tell,,

Like at first, every convo ya’ll have had with people who recognize that direct speech trait as a thing, would take at least 10 minutes to finish talking about it/being shocked,,

It got so old so fast.

(Like I already can’t communicate that good with ppl irl bc I misunderstand them, or they do me, or they just dont get what I mean, and as my friends put it, which I think would fit here for any language shenanigans we go thru in Teyvat, "A Shakespearean level of misunderstanding, hilarious but such a downward spiral to watch, it just gets more and more ridiculous as it goes on...")

On another note, making fun of someone would be so fucking funny,

I’d like to give myself the benefit of the doubt that many characters, after getting used to your speech, would generally understand you (even if they always notice it, like an accent) and would actually rlly love hearing insults or even just generally how you would put things

(like maybe treating this almost like those vids of ppl with non-native english speaknig relatives/parents and its the most hilarious thing to watch them, usually get pissed 😭, at their kid, if u dont know what I mean look up on tiktok or smth)

And You just come off like those insults where you dont even use cuss words, you just like, drag queen read them into never showing their face again, and you did it in so few words!!

They're amazed and oh,

all of this just makes me so so so so curious about carlos as a character.

clearly something happened to him (ie. phantom ocean, dow, literally fucking off to night vale to begin with) he clearly has issues with feeling accepted (the town) talking about his feelings/experiences (ie approaching cecil, to date cecil, not telling cecil abt the dow, the episode with the marriage counselor, waiting for cecil to leave to say his piece on the radio in 210, leaving before cecil got back, etc.) and he’s clearly got a bad response to SOMETHING

but the most exciting bit (for character development) i THINK is that he just inadvertently set himself up for a HUGE exposure of info/vulnerability because of his own inability to communicate with his partner. the choices and consequences of trying to find ways out of direct communication!

if we can assume anything from that implication is that cecil is going to listen back to what he said, that means he’s going to know about carlos’ time in the dow. and that to me is v exciting and i hope that was the intended point of that very weird exchange— i hope carlos is pressured to finally deal with whatever it is he’s not dealing with, and subsequently heal and grow from it so he doesnt hurt those around him!!!!!!! and ofc through all of that we’re gonna learn abt his back story/lore which I WANT!!!!!!

not to mention the university of what it is is definitely going to add to that pressure, and i think he’s going to have a real crisis of identity

random but have you thought abt gaming and hutao?

funny story anon, when I was writing ga-ming's fake voicelines and needed to give him more characters to talk about, I was considering adding a hu tao voiceline, but decided against it because I didn't really see a reason for them to meet (besides via friends (new liyue 6ang addition?!?!?!)). lowkey I now feel validated bc they don't have any in-game voicelines abt each other, but this would be a very boring ask if it just stopped here lol.

there's something to be said about gaming and hu tao's family baggage vs their cheerful external demeanor vs both doing a job that isn't super well received (?) by people in liyue harbor. but hu tao leans into her eccentricities a lot more while gaming is on the 'likeable by everyone' grind LOL also the dad similarities might increase if we ever get 76th funeral parlor director lore: hu tao's parents have been conspicuously missing forever, where did genshin put them? an interesting possibility would be if the 76th somehow split off from the family trade and subsequently got wiped from the family tree bc of ideological diffs (like ht's beef with baizhu), which could increase gaming and hu tao's possible shared father(?) troubles. but besides that I feel like there's not too much similarity there. They're both enthusiastic outward facing individuals, but idk if they'd have an interesting dynamic if they met.*

Although, you know that voiceline where hu tao does a magic trick and makes a butterfly of fire? and also how she plays with those lion statues outside the ministry of civil affairs? those two things would be straight up gamings alley ngl like he'd be so down for that kind of whimsy and playfulness. also hu tao would be a good candidate for a 2nd lion dance partner. she'd be completely down for doing odd jobs and this is absolutely a fun odd job, at least until she gets tired of it or has to focus on official business lol. idt she's the type to work hard at it; she's just there to try it out because it looked cool but gaming appreciates the enthusiasm regardless. would request to be the lions head in order to lunge at people and also pick greens. also there's potential for a gaming yun jin xingqiu hu tao tea appreciation club

oh also i think smth underrated abt hu tao is how shes like cheery and eccentric but takes her job seriously and has unidentifiable but occasionally present baggage .... which i already mentioned before is similar to how 75% of gm's voicelines are cheery, and then the other 25% is emotional conflict. idk! maybe under the right conditions, they could open up to each other and sympathize

*addendum: imo, hu tao has mostly moved on from her grief over her grandfather's death, and she doesn't have any regrets about the state of their relationship when he passed away, since they were pretty close and never on bad terms. My personal hc is that she still has some things she wished she said, ie. sincere thoughts and feelings from the heart that she usually avoids talking about (she would say "nice speech, but that kind of killed the mood" if someone made one of those anime protag power of friendship monologues). in my head, her grandpa taught her everything about death and funeral customs, played with her/listened to her poetry, pretended to go along w her pranks, and was in general a very loving person, but I don't think hu tao ever explicitly told him "I love you" before he died. she canonically tried to find him right after he passed away but knew that he wouldn't be there. by now i think she's made peace with his death, but still has a certain wistfulness about things she didn't think of saying. and then on the flip side, if ga-ming could see his mom again, he'd probably spend a whole day talking to her i think. he's also not someone to get drunk on grief or regrets, but i don't think he's quite gotten over it completely, and his rocky relationship with his father (before lantern rite 2024) makes this more emotional idk. not sure where I'm going with this, but maybe hu tao would be able to talk him through a bit of this messiness and urge him to simply continue with his own life. or show him that his mother was not at the border, perhaps never lingered there, because she didnt think there was any unfinished business with him or his father that she needed to worry about. the annoying thing about death is that even if the dead person was free of regrets, those who are still living will still miss them. maybe both gaming and hu tao would be able to understand that and/or sympathize with it. or maybe they'd just be silly together who knows, up to you

edit: it'd also be so funny to have gaming call hu tao "boss hu" 胡老板～～～～～～～

Heya! Its been a minute but now that I see Ponti-saurus Rex on my dash, I gotta ask (because memory of goldfish and can't remember) Does he shed his skin like some reptiles do? And if so, is he soft and squishy afterwards for a while?

i have HELLA lore on Ponti shedding for some reason so imma talk abt it why not YEAH he sheds about once every other month and it comes off in flakes that he just eats most of the time. He usually takes shed baths and gets all the dead skin off there (which Abby regretfully joins him rarely lmfao hence this ancient pic:)

but sometimes Abby helps him pick off shed in hard to reach places, and after he sheds he gets super shiny and even iridescent which i did an ass job when i tried to show that in these but first pic is probably right before he starts shedding and the 2nd is like the day after:

still trying to get the right effect down but basically looks like this:

so especially around his neck, tummy, and more tender spots he kinda has a rainbow sheen WHICH plays into his whole mating call thing that he does with his throat but I'll get into that in a min bc fuck it this gonna be a Ponti info dump post 🤠

so anyway he gets super moody and irritable right before and during (kind of like a period tbh AHA) and depending on how healthy he is he can really shine, which I'm sure nowadays he's the shiniest he's ever been; but when he was a kid, hitting puberty, and also being under immense stress literally all the time he was super flakey and pale most of the time

so he was kinda always in a constant state of anxiety shedding pfft but now his cycles are pretty set in stone the whole once every other month thing sO circling back to the shiny on his neck it's basically like the way an alligator does a mating call ie. from my blog lost to time:

i have a gif of him doing it too but twitter is a piece of shit that wont let me save my own fukkin gifs but bc of him being in his Prime Shiny right after shedding making it optimal for him to do his mating call, he also gets super fukkin horny after shedding which is where his heats come in but i aint goin into all that mess here bUT YEAH he sheds :')

SO I HAVE THESE TWO LITTLE GUYS

MILO AND AND JAX (no relation to tadc) (I will now stop yelling)

Milo is an angel and Jax is a demon (giggles)

they are both 20 yrs old, Milo is transmasc (he/him) and "straight" (he is actually so bisexual), Jax is gay (he/it)

(runs to my notes app) (lil warning, quite a bit of their story is Jax helping Milo through his fear of his own sexuality, so yea you can guess there gonna be certain themes)

Okay so Milo is like low-key famous up in heaven (he's the son of the king of heavens "manager" I forgor the word) (ITS ADVISOR, THE KINGS TOP ADVISOR TAHTS THE WORD OMG)

so he's constantly trying to keep his public image intact..

but that starts to get harder after he's sent on a mission to deliver a message to the king of hell

down there he sees the king's son (spoiler: it's Jax) and is like " Oh shoot oh no he's hot wth why do I like this guy I'm straight wait what"

OH YEA SILLY HEAVEN LORE DROP: Being queer is totally fine up there, Milo has been out and transitioned for years, but from a young age all angel's are taught that engaging in sexual activity or having sexual thoughts is a big no no

lore drop over, back to the other lore drop :3

so for the next month or so Milo is having progressively more risqué thoughts and even dreams (woagh that's crazy) and he's getting real stressed out because I LIED MORE HEAVEN LORE: when angels start losing their "purity", small parts of their body start changing to red, ie some of the hair, eyes, any markings. SO HES ALL STRESSED CAUSE HES STRUGGLING TO HIDE THE CHANGES :((

ANYWAYS- He gets sent on another mission to hell, this time to ask if preparations for Jax's coronation have started, and gets suckered into helping. The two start getting closer~..

ONTO JAX LORE!!!!!! YIPPEE

Jax is the Prince of Hell, and has been conditioned by its asshole of a father to eventually become king since he was very young. His father would often push Jax past its limits both physically and emotionally. When he couldn't deal with this, his father decided to start just straight up abusing him. (I wanna kill, him. YES I KNOW IM IN CONTROL BUT HES IMPORTANT TO THE STORY FOR NOW 😭)

Because his mother was an incubus (she's uh- out of the picture... also incubi and succubi can be any gender so fun fact!!!) it decides to deal with his issues by whoring around (he's so silly!! <- the poor guy needs severe therapy and to get away from his dad)

One day, an angel comes to deliver a message to his father (WOAGH I WONDER WHO THAT IS!?!??! 🧐🧐) and he becomes absolutely infatuated after seeing him once (bro is down bad frfr)

as it nears time for his coronation, the same angel comes to visit to help with preparations. once again, the two start getting closer~..

NOW GENERAL STORY STUFF!!!!! I cannot thank you enough for the chance to be so soso abnormal abt my silly little guys btw

Before they get closer, Milo is like "nuh uh being friends with a demon is wrong HECK NO" (he doesn't swear :3) but eventually they start talking, Jax opens up about his daddy issues (trauma is the first conversation topic as always with these DAMN QUEERS-) <- I AM A DAMN QUEER YALL

and Jax learns what life in heaven is like (and is absolutely horrified to learn that sexuality is frowned upon)

it now has a goal to help Milo understand that his teachings were incorrect

to directly quote my notes app: One night, Milo comes back to his guest room to see it destroyed.. (While they were working, one of Jax's old boy toys wrecked it in a fit of rage over Milo getting close to Jax) As they don't have any other rooms available, Jax offers to let Milo stay in his for now. Milo accepts, then panics once he learns that Jax only has one bed. Jax doesn't see an issue, and they sleep in the same bed with a little persuasion. (THAT SOUNDS WEIRD, I PROMISE JAX ISNT A CREEP OR NOTHIN)

uhhh umm the next part is kinda- uhmmmmmmm 😳 I don't think I'm gonna say it here

just know some of Milo's dreams come true :3c

me : so I have this idea with the first years in a band

This is all her fault and now everyone can reap the results of what we came up with together

I might actually make this into actual fic but if anyone wants to make their own than go wild

Basically my original idea was just the first years, including yuu, just randomly started a band together. Then the idea of them hiding their identity was pitched and now here is just the jumble of headcanons we came up with

okay so since we found out they can sing from VDC, im gonna be assuming that the rest of the first years (ie Jack and Sebek) can sing but then i started thinking of them as an actual band

sebek probably joined to impress malleus or something but ended up having fun and just stayed

considering the upbringing Sebek has, he probably has some proficiency with piano

ace and epel probably know how to play the guitar (ace had a guitar phase prove me wrong)

deuce has bassist vibes and jack on drums bc mmmmm jack on drums

we said yuu was the miku equivalent bc project sekai but lets not talk abt that

we liked to think that their singing voices would be different from their usual voices (epel doing deep vocals/screaming, sebek doing the softer vocals, jack having a raspy voice, etc etc)

then they go a step further to having a hidden identity with virtual avatars

like they can’t exactly say theyre 16 year olds from NRC for various reasons

so they went to, yes you guessed it, idia shroud

listen idia has been consuming this media for years so he knows what hes doing

so hes basically the manager at this point and does all technical stuff to it bc lets be honest who else is best to do this

this man is living his idol manager dreams and ortho is cheering him on

hes the one who creates the fanchant which both amazes and horrifies the firsy years

hes probably the one who gets the avatars at this point and gets everyones opinions on what they want but only to an extent bc no epel you wont be getting a buff avatar no matter how much you plead

Epel:nobody is going to know!!! Let me have this

Everyone else: Epel we’ve gone over this before. No.

adeuce has a matching aesthetic kind of thing bc idia knows that dynamic

jack and sebek have that well built but stoic looking disposition

the lore is just retelling of all the things they went through at NRC

Cater and Vil are the first one to notice bc of course the social media savvy ones are the first ones to find out

vil is conflicted bc on one hand this is going against everything he has taught epel

but at the same time nobody is actually seeing and knowing its epel so his image isnt tarnished????

riddle be going through it bc he wants to keep up with trends how do u do fellow kids

so when he hears ace and deuce sing he just narrows his eyes and goes “wait a minute...”

azul wants to capitalize this opportunity but no u funky octopus the whole concept is to keep the identity a secret

he actually likes the music and died inside once he found out

listen if anyone sees the lore video and ppl at nrc find it eerily familiar to events and overblots that happened that shit is going to be suspicious and ppl will figure it out

To be fair,

1. NRC isnt just prestigious but its Selective, you cant even enter unless its doors are open already if you havent been picked by the mirror

2. There are often more heroes than villains in stories and assuming RSA is Just as selective, it might be taking the majority of students with the capacity of magic to enter. Kinda like Oxford and Cambridge only more people go to RSA i suppose.

3. Perhaps having such a small student body is how they can support them all with their facilities? There's less students to focus on and take care of and we already know how stingy crowley is.

4. the number might've been even smaller if we consider that Ramshackle used to be used as a dorm

5. As you said, it probably is split unevenly as a lot of people likely dropped out from the pressure or transferred somewhere else.

All the possibilities that so very very likely chalk up to devs not thinking this through or the ghosts talking abt their own days dndhfg

I Ramble

It’s definitely interesting world lore to explore 🤔 well, at least it is to me--

There’s a lot to dissect and discuss in this ask, so I’ll break down my response in a similar manner. Hopefully that helps keeps everything in order and makes it easy to understand!

1. Yes, NRC is not only prestigious, but also highly selective! For the sake of argument, I’m not going to take magical campus safeguards into consideration. I think of those as less “NRC picks and chooses who can walk on their campus” and more as typical campus security measures, except made magical in the world of Twisted Wonderland.

I’m guessing that makes NRC like the well-known universities and private high schools of the real world. What confuses me about NRC is that the scale of it seems really... off from their real-world counterparts? Even highly selective schools like Harvard (just to use a really obvious example) accept thousands of students (~30,400) and have the staff to support that number (Harvard has three main campuses whereas NRC just has one, but even then, NRC has way fewer students).

It’s true that only one in ten humans (~10%) are capable of using magic, so this probably makes the pool of potential applicants much smaller than anticipated--however, this counts ONLY for humans. We have no idea what percentage of other races (ie fairies, beastmen, merfolk, etc.) are capable of using magic; it could be less, or it could be more. We just don’t have that information yet. Then we must consider that, of those who can use magic, most of them can only do very simple things like lifting a glass with magic, rather than the complex spells that are taught at NRC. This would be like how Harvard receives several applications from top students at every school; the issue is that of those top students, only a select few have what it takes (ie the “magical potential”) to attend.

If we assume that Twisted Wonderland’s population is similar to that of the real world, interpret only a fraction of those that are capable of using magic as the “top” students applying, and use Harvard as a comparison for NRC, that’s... still weird? Like, if we assume that NRC only has about 800 students, that means that NRC has a student population that is ONLY ~2.6% that of Harvard’s.

Considering that Harvard’s acceptance rate is only 4-5% of all applicants (yet they still have ~30,400 students enrolled), does this mean that NRC’s acceptance rate is on par with or even lower than that of Harvard? 🤣 Or is it that the campus doesn’t have the capacity to host more students than 800ish?? Surprisingly, it’s both (please refer to point 3 later in this post for me to address the “capacity to host more students” part.

To play devil’s advocate here (yes, I am arguing with myself), it’s not fair to compare NRC to a real-life university. A university will naturally be much bigger and have way more resources and funds than an institution like NRC (which is more like a high school/secondary school to prepare people for university/college).

Let’s instead compare NRC’s numbers with real-life private high school’s numbers. According to Google, “the vast majority of private schools are elementary schools; only one in thirteen private schools enrolls students in grades 9-12. Private schools tend to be very small. Half enroll fewer than 150 students. Less than 3 percent enroll more than 750 students.” Using these values, we can see that NRC is actually a rare case in terms of private schools; it’s unusual to see enrollment of 750+ students 🤔 and it would make NRC considered a large private educational institution.

The acceptance rate for the most selective private (non-college, non-university) school in my country is 5% (which isn’t that far off from Harvard’s). Now, remember that only one in every ten humans are capable of using basic magic. If we assume that only 5% of that 10% have potential to be great mages, then that means the accepted NRC student population is actually 0.5% of humans that can use magic. That’s super low (but please remember that these values are rough estimates and don’t account for other circumstances like different races, since we don’t know the ratio of magicians to non-magicians for races other than human) 🤡 SO NRC REALLY IS MORE SELECTIVE THAN ANY PRIVATE SCHOOL IN THE REAL WORLD???????

2. Going off my last point, I disagree with there “often” being more heroes than villains. This may be true of the real-world Disney movies at a surface level, but there are definitely several exceptions if you count main villains’ hench people, minor villains, and even morally ambiguous characters that work against the heroes’ interests. Scar had a lot of hyenas under him, the Queen of Hearts had all her card soldiers, Maleficent had her little... gremlin things (whatever those were), Dr. Facilier’s friends on the other side, Jafar and various thieves and palace guards that dislike Aladdin, etc. You can even count Gaston and Belle’s entire village as “villains” since they decided to storm the beast’s lair and kill him. You could technically count most of the adults and the students in High School Musical as the “bad guys” since they were against the idea of people from different cliques dating; it all depends on how one defines a “villain”.

Something else to consider is that, even at NRC, there’s exceptions. Rook, Kalim, and Silver definitely don’t (initially) come across as “villainous”, and there are characters like Ruggie that represent multiple villains (ie The Lion King’s 3 main hyenas) as one character. The former would not limit the numbers at either NRC or RSA, and the latter would cut down on the number of bodies at NRC entirely.

I think it’s more likely that RSA is very similar to NRC in terms of student population and rigorous selection, especially since we are told in the game that they are rivals. Rivals should be equally “on par” with each other. If RSA just accepted the majority of students with the capacity to use magic, why has RSA defeated NRC for 99 consecutive years? Why wouldn’t RSA be considered less prestigious if it’s supposedly so easy to get in so long as you can use magic?

3. I think it’s good when there’s a small student to staff ratio, since that allows more time, energy, and resources to be dedicated to help each individual student succeed. I still find it weird that for a school with only 800ish enrolled students, they have such a large campus???? NRC has a main building that’s several stories tall with multiple classrooms (plus a library, an infirmary, a kitchen, and a cafeteria), a farm, a ranch, a big sports stadium, a mirror chamber, a main street, a greenhouse, a big sports field, woods, a courtyard, etc. That’s a LOT, and it’s the sort of set-up I expect of a university and not a private high school. But, speaking with knowledge shared to me by a British friend, it’s not unusual for old private British boarding schools to have campuses similar to NRC’s? So it must be a culture shock thing on my part.

4. I’ll be real with you, sometimes I completely forget that Ramshackle used to be a dorm-- ASDJIASDILUASIDBAS I guess in a way, that could mean that NRC used to be able to host more students? Or would that actually mean the numbers are just a little different???? (Because if we consider that there were 8 dorms but maintain the 800 students, that means only 100ish students evenly distributed among the dorms, and only 25 in each year for each dorm???)

5. Yeah, it definitely sounds like Heartslabyul is packed compared to everywhere else (since no one wants to experience Riddle’s wrath). Personally, I also speculate that Diasomnia is one of the least crowded dorms, given that that’s the dorm with “all-rounders” in magic, which I would imagine is pretty rare, even among these “top” students capable of using magic that are accepted into NRC to begin with.

THIS IS SOMETHING I NOTICED JUST NOW AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT A LITTLE MORE, BUT.

Wouldn’t it be more accurate to say that class sizes are closer to the low 30s rather than 29ish (29 is based on a value calculated from my last post about this). The way class seats are assigned in Japan is by alphabetical order according to LAST NAME. This appears to carry over to NRC, where the students with names at the beginning of the alphabet have smaller number seats, whereas people like Sebek Zigvolt have seat numbers in the 20s and 30s. Sebek in particular is seat number 33 in his class.

Then let’s consider the classrooms at NRC; just from the main boys’ profiles, we can glean that there are at least sections A through E for each year level. If we assume that there are only A, B, C, D, and E sections for each year, at roughly 30 students each, that actually means each year at NRC has at least 150 students, not 114 students (again, this is a value I calculated in my original post).

But... even then, the math doesn’t make sense??????? Because if there’s 150 students per year, even if we include the fourth years, that only makes for about 600 students?????????? And if we don’t include the fourth years, that would only be 450 students?? Which is even less than the number that the Ramshackle Ghosts give, and actually makes 800 students look big in comparison??? Maybe some classes just have more students so that it all collectively adds up to at least 800…

Then thinking back to Azul’s actions in episode 3, we’d need to take away 200ish students (assuming each year is roughly the same size) to account for the fourth years off campus 🤔 Which leaves 600 left, 200 for each year (first, second, and third)… and that’s closer to 38% of the student population just based on who’s actually ON campus. WHAT THE HEcK iE, THAT’S ALmOST 2/5 😭 No wonder why Crowley was losing his mind in episode 3…

Anyway…

It’s not something I’m used to seeing in my own culture, so of course I’d be confused when I see it in a game that I’m heavily invested in 💦 asdhbaidlbas I feel like I learned a lot from looking into this topic!

Ok so (partial) lore dump for my Khux Keykid Vial. Also like, Khux spoilers if anyone is still learning about that (but I find it hard to imagine)

It's a little hard to show how he looks because the narrative stretches from him being 13ish to him being 17ish. This is him in the later part of the lore. Also he sort of ties into my friend's keykid's lore.

OK so the rough timeline is, Vial got taken to daybreak town when he was around 11. His parents died in the previous keyblade war and he was orphaned, taken to daybreak town bc it was assumed it'd be better for him. He got his keyblade sometime shortly after, or right before that methinks. (Haven't fully decided when that happened) anyway he ended up in Vulpes, after flopping around unions for awhile.

Also side note, i joked when I first made him that he had a medical license that was revoked by the time he was 14 and not sure if I'll keep that true but he is very into medical stuff and does function as a healer. Assuming the union was like a school, he probably managed to become an aid for the school nurse and hangs around there a lot. He is a little bit of a menace but he really likes helping people.

Around 13 he met my friends ocs Vivian (vivi) and Alvia (Alvi) I think he met Vivi, went "oh you're friend shaped" and just talked about vampires and medicine until they became friends and she told him about grand magic. Vial made fun of Alvi for being in the nurse's office frequently (he does a lot of missions, sometimes gets hurt from my understanding) but Alvi eventually caught onto Vial being wildly inept with his own keyblade and offered to help and Vial ended up really looking up to him.

I could talk more abt the gang but this is already so long, eugh. I think I might just make a part 2 later and talk about the keyblade war/postwar life, etc. For now enjoy this. Everyone as kids.

Also some of Vial and Alvi's dynamic is just Vial unintentionally giving Alvi emotional whiplash/saying something so jarring it grounds him immediately. Ie. Alvi asked why Vial didn't use healing magic instead of bandages, to which Vial confidently replied something like "it's called fire magic and cauterizing a wound isn't always the best move." Which prompted Alvi to help teach him how to use a keyblade. Also things like Vial revealing to him that Vial is a nickname, short for "Vials"

Can I ask which are your favourite characters overall (not just playstyle, but personality, look, maybe even story) and what your favourite ships (if you have any) are?

Fishing for 4 stars is very appealing and I do it sometimes, because you can statistically get away with it more often than not. But there's always going to be that "not" which will hurt, so if you must do it, it's better to risk it only if you're not aiming for someone in the immediate future. (ie, if I fuck up and get Scaramouche, I can probably still get Eula, and that one time it did fuck me up, I got 50th roll Kokomi, which is fine.)

For me, I am ultra picky and critical, which is a huge issue since Genshin has so many irreplaceable supports that I just hate.

My favorite characters would probably be Childe (which is why I rolled his cons on every rerun, despite them being largely useless), Diluc (who I had to wait two years to finally get and bought a skin for despite not having him at the time), and Venti (actual best pull of my account lol, we don't talk about Inazuma pre-nerfs). I was also immediately sold on Kaveh from what little we saw, haha.

Aside from those 5 star guys, I am deeply fond of Noelle, Sucrose and Ningguang's style (though not necessarily her as a character, I'm neutral on that). I also have a soft spot for Barbara. Noelle especially <3

I think my three guys have generally interesting lore, though the story is... it's SO monumentally mishandled that no one gets off well. Generally, the only characters who can claim something like good writing are those that keep well away from any actual plot. Special mention to Itto for having the best showings in general (we don't talk about why tf he was in the Chasm), Venti and Childe are pretty good too, though Childe suffers from the writers clearly having no idea what to do with him and other characters severely undercutting his backstory (ah yes, the trauma of the Abyss... where Yelan went to, where Scaramouche went to a whole lot, etc, etc).

For pairings, there aren't a lot of options. I'm okay with kaeluc, xiaoven who have never interacted, zhongchi, haikaveh... but I can't say I'm super into any of them except maybe kaeluc that lives in my head and not in the game. I do have a soft spot for Venti and Diluc interactions, though not necessarily romantically. Also, if you don't write it in the generic het romance template, I think chilumi and jeanluc have a lot of potential. (I trust no fanfic writer with them tho.)

tbh I don't have much to say about him lol I don't think about him enough. I will say, from the content I've seen of him, I think he has good fans! Like childe stans (to me) feel like wholesome people? y'all don't seem to do him dirty at all and I greatly appreciate the memes and funny content as well as the serious fanwork about him; it gives him good depth and made me consider things I hadn't before! In terms of his actual character, I think his duality of being a caring brother and a fearsome harbinger is v interesting!! idk I feel like he'd have an interesting if slightly messed up perspective on life (good with kids; separates work and personal life; and yet extremely battlesexual). he's a malewife a harbinger a dead-eyes abyss survivor a pro-fisher the brother of all time a guy with no common sense and one braincell only aka he's hilarious! I enjoy his character from afar (also I'm gonna say from all the popular-ish childe ships I've seen, none of them are unrealistic pog to you guys for having taste.)

Shenhe

I don't think about her much either but I have more opinions about her lol. #1 opinion is always that she had So Much potential with chongyun, and then mihoyo dropped the trailer and never mentioned their aunt/nephew dynamic again (voicelines don't count). I also don't like how she seems to be designed as another fanservice-y cryo woman who's semi """in love""" with the traveler (ie some of her interactions with the traveler in the archon quest and her dialogue after you completed the moonchase main questline). Like I understand that the traveler is her first connection to mortal Liyue after being away in the adeptal sphere for so long and the traveler is supposed to be a major part of her arc but it’s giving “cryo woman is shown another side of society that she didn’t know before by the traveler” (ie Ayaka and Eula) and it’s kinda hrmmm. moving onto her actual lore, this is the part where everyone but me is wrong abt her (I’m joking.) I’m not well versed enough in xianxia tropes to talk but she draws a lot from that and being like a recluse from society because she’s been unlucky from birth; I appreciate the culture stuff in that but I feel like it also makes her misinterpreted not me seeing a post about how she has yang energy like chongyun??? she has yin energy if ever I saw it. Anyways maybe I’m not looking in the right place but I also feel like she has less fanon character depth than I’d like ;.; her most popular ships are meh to me (confused on why Yun Jin is shipped with her bc to me Yun Jin’s a minor) but I love the small doodles of shenlan a Twitter artist does <3333

LOVE THIS DUDE. He’s HILARIOUS I don’t think about him enough. I’m absolutely in love with whatever his CN VA did with him bc ittos loud and long “HAHAHAHA” lives rent free in my head since he dropped on the livestream. His story quest was also super nice!! 🥺 idk if you’ve played it yet so I won’t spoil anything but they did his character really nicely and the way they expanded on the oni lore was also super cute!! also the cutscenes were 100% amazing. Idk I like that genshin finally made a heart of gold himbo who’s been through some tough days but still keeps looking up; his character complexity and overall personality is v nice!! I also like whatever him and Yoimiya’s rivalry/r/ship is in general it’s funny. I think he was a bit too much comic relief (and not enough actual character) in perilous trails but it was funny so I’ll let it slide. anyways i don’t think enough about this man he slaps.
